Robson apologizes for 'sluts' comment

LONDON -- Former Wimbledon junior champion Laura Robson has apologized to her fellow players for saying some of them are "sluts" who make a bad name for themselves by going out with different guys.

The 16-year-old British player, who is considered her country's most promising in women's tennis, told Vogue magazine they needed to be "more discreet."

Robson conceded Thursday she had made a "totally inappropriate, throwaway comment without considering the consequences."

The WTA says Robson did the right thing by apologizing and adds it was glad she showed "the maturity and good judgment to do so."
