Tennis Expert Picks - US Open

Tournament:

Editor's note: In selecting our picks, the "toughest road" must be by a player currently seeded in the top 10 and a "sleeper" is someone outside the top 10.

Well, here we are near the end of another thrilling season of tennis majors -- and this U.S. Open will decide who is the best of 2012.

But we're not talking about Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic or Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. No, this is something larger and even more far-reaching.

Yes, it's ESPN.com's Experts' Picks.

The star-studded pack is bunched tightly, with all 11 participants still mathematically alive in the race. Well, sort of.

Brad Gilbert, who coached Andre Agassi, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick, is still one clear of the field with seven correct picks after holding a commanding lead through Roland Garros.

"I fell apart at Wimby," he noted in a cryptic email.

Tied for second with six are Darren Cahill, Cliff Drysdale, Patrick McEnroe and Pam Shriver. Kamakshi Tandon and Matt Wilansky are next with five, followed by Chris Evert, Mary Joe Fernandez, Greg Garber and Ravi Ubha with four.

As a public service (free of charge!), here are the final picks of the season. We'll get back to you after New York with the ultimate champion.
