Five months after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, Russell Westbrook has gone back under the knife. It was announced Tuesday that the Thunder point guard underwent arthroscopic surgery on the same knee after experiencing swelling caused by a loose stitch. As a result will miss the first four to six weeks of the regular season. Westbrook said once fully recovered, he doesn't plan on changing his style of play. But will going through two knee surgeries in a short period of time change his play for him?

Better than before?

Russell Westbrook averaged 23.2 points, 7.4 assists and 5.2 rebounds, and had the NBA's fifth highest win share total of 11.6 last season.

Freeman wants release from Bucs

Josh Freeman's time with the Buccaneers may be rapidly coming to an end, as he's reportedly asked the team for his release. The Buccaneers replaced Freeman with rookie Mike Glennon last week, but it didn't keep them from falling to 0-4 after a loss to the Cardinals. It's clear that the relationship between Freeman and the team is irreparably fractured, although the team could try to trade him before granting him an outright release.

Under Clint Hurdle, the Pirates are above .500 and in the playoffs for the first time since 1992. In 2011, Terry Francona watched as the Red Sox suffered one of the worst collapses in Major League Baseball history as they went 7-20 in September and lost out to the Rays for the final AL Wild Card spot. Two seasons later he's leading the Indians to their first playoff berth in six seasons. Francona's replacement in Boston, John Farrell, has the Sox atop the AL standings and in talks as the best team in all of baseball. Where do they rank among the 2013 MLB postseason managers? Will the Rangers regroup in 2014?

Had they beaten the Rays in Monday night's one-game playoff, the 2013 Texas Rangers would have been remembered for winning their final seven regular-season games and snapping out of a month-long tailspin. But Tampa Bay's 5-2 win made that effort a footnote to the Rangers' second straight September free fall. There's plenty of blame to go around, but remember this: In the past decade, when the Red Sox and Mets collapsed down the stretch, managers Terry Francona and Willie Randolph lost their respective jobs. Will Texas skipper Ron Washington keep his?

Marcus Mariota had a mediocre game in Week 5, but he's still No. 1 in our experts' Heisman Watch list. Mariota's Oregon squad ran roughshod over California, and though his completion percentage was low, he did throw for two touchdowns and run for one more. Fortunately for Mariota, no one else on the list had a breakout game that would have knocked him out of his top spot. How would you rank the players who received multiple votes from our experts?

LeBron James has been compared to Michael Jordan many times in his career, but he still has a long way to go before he overtakes Jordan in the championships department -- or, if you believe Jordan, in a game of one-on-one. In an interview promoting the NBA 2K14 game, Jordan said that if he were in his prime, he wouldn't lose to LeBron in a solo matchup. LeBron (6-foot-8, 250 pounds) would have a significant size advantage over Jordan (6-6, 216), but MJ would have the edge in pure shooting. Honestly, given his legendary competitiveness, we're not sure we'd bet against Jordan, even if it were later on in his career.
