Live chat with Tom Wallisch
On Saturday, Jan. 28 at 9:45 p.m ET, Winter X Games 2012 Ski Slopestyle gold medalist Tom Wallisch will be joining us for a live online chat with ESPN.com.
Wallisch earned his first Winter X Aspen gold medal (he won Winter X Europe Slopestyle in 2010) on Thursday night.
This has been a successful season so far for the Pittsburg, Penn., native: Wallisch won the season's first two Winter Dew Tour contests and earlier this week, he nabbed the Powder Magazine reader poll award for male skier of the year.
Send your questions now and join Wallisch here on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 9:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Tom Wallisch (9:40 PM)
What's up winter X fans. It's your boy Tom Wallisch ready to answer some questions. Whatssss up!??
Big-Tink (Maryland )
Can you do a promo for Seven Springs new park back in PA? Us guys from the east would love to see ya come home.
Tom Wallisch (9:41 PM)
I'm definitely gonna try to make it back to PA. The new urban park looks so fun! Would be really fun!
Lyn, Joe, and Trevor Decker (pittsburgh pa)
Congratulations Tom! You've come a long way from skiing off the roof of your house! Way to go!
Tom Wallisch (9:41 PM)
Thanks guys!!
Mati (Washington DC)
I love your skiing style! Big fan of yours and trying to learn it. What other sports do or did you do to be so technical? Gymnastics and trampoline? Or what?
Tom Wallisch (9:42 PM)
Trampoline a little, skate, bike, anything to catch air. Just do what you find fun, and you'll learn the skills you need!
Jay Dunstall (England)
How do you feel about slopestyle skiing being accepted into the Winter Olympics 2014?
Tom Wallisch (9:44 PM)
I think its awesome. Definitely cool to have our sport reach such a high level. It is definitely essential to have the sport keeps it's freedom and fun though!
juicy (j)
When you started freestyle skiing you where about 16 right? At what age did you get sponsered and how?
Tom Wallisch (9:46 PM)
Probably started more around 13 or 14. And sponsors started showing up a little around 17. Just gotta try and get your name out there, make edits, and compete in any contests you can!
Ali Fricchione (Harrisburg PA)
Congrats on your recent successes. I'm 3 months out from major hip surgery and totally itching to get back on snow. Got any tips to keep me from going insane?!
Tom Wallisch (9:46 PM)
PS3? X-box? learn a new hobby? just try to stay distracted! Heal up buddy!
Digital Dave (Aspen, CO)
Tom, why aren't you in more commercials?
Tom Wallisch (9:47 PM)
hahaha!
Timmy (Doe)
That North Face commercial on ESPN is rad. How do you like their stuff?
Tom Wallisch (9:48 PM)
Love it! Such good quality, and really steezy!
Phil (Canada)
What do you think about the style of Casabon and Harlaut ? Do you try to copy it or you don't like it ?
Tom Wallisch (9:50 PM)
I love both phil and henrik's style a ton. They are both big inspirations of mine. They have such a good eye for new creative tricks
Sam Smithy (Australia)
Any tips for a young skier who wants to become the next Tom Wallisch? How do I do it?
Tom Wallisch (9:51 PM)
Ski ski ski! just get out there as much as you can!
Tom Wallisch (9:51 PM)
Hollly cow bobby! Sw 14 was legittttt
Tom Wallisch (9:52 PM)
Who's gonna win this big air tonight?????
Jstrain (West dover vt)
how do you land so flawlessly and how did you manage to jump onto that wall ride. word.
Tom Wallisch (9:53 PM)
Just lots of repetition! and I just jumped as high as I could haha. Definitely pretty scary though!
Jonas Øyangen (Norway, Trondheim)
When you were shooting for FieldProductions.. Was it alot of pressure on you? Like on the jumps.. You had to land every trick or was it like, pretty chill and relaxing the whole time?
Tom Wallisch (9:57 PM)
It's super mellow, the whole field crew is really fun to work with. You definitely wanna get shots, but it's all fun!
Nathan (Bear Creek, PA)
How does a 15 year old from a small mountain on the east coast progress and possibly become sponsored?
Tom Wallisch (9:59 PM)
Just have to ski what you can whenever you can!
Kevin kruse (Denver)
How does it feel to be the Ryan Villopoto of skiing this year? Hence winning everything ...
Tom Wallisch (9:59 PM)
It's pretty awesome buddy!
Tom B. (Maine)
Any chance you'll be at the Dumont Cup this year?
Tom Wallisch (10:00 PM)
Hopefully! Such a fun contest!
Ross (Pittsburgh, PA)
Your landings are flawless! How do you do it?!
Tom Wallisch (10:01 PM)
Lots and lots of practice. And smooth hip-hop in the head phones
Michael P. (Canada)
Yo Tom! Just wondering what your thought is about the jump tonight? Alot of people are complaing on NS about it.
Tom Wallisch (10:04 PM)
I think the jump has a sick shape, true tables are great for safe big tricks. This one just isn't super big, so seeing all of these triples and 1440s looks crazy and hucked
Tom Wallisch (10:05 PM)
Steelers!
Tom Wallisch (10:06 PM)
Tupac
Casey (Maine)
What's the best way to get in the "just do it" mentality?
Tom Wallisch (10:08 PM)
Put on some tunes you like and visualize the trick in your head. Now you can do it, and just dooo it!
Maddy (Texas)
Who do you think will win snowboard slopestyle tonight?
Tom Wallisch (10:09 PM)
Not sure, everyone is slaying these days. Probably either Seb or Mark though. They seem to be killing it in practice
Alexandra (PA)
Jossi Wells will win! I hear you go to University of Utah. Do you love it?
Tom Wallisch (10:10 PM)
I do I do! I love it ya!
Jay Dunstall (England)
Whats the worst injury you've had?
Tom Wallisch (10:11 PM)
Nothing too too terrible. I've had a couple broken collarbones and a broken shoulder blade
jackson (calgary)
hey tom you ever thought of competing half pipe?
Tom Wallisch (10:11 PM)
:(
Casey (Maine)
Pats or Giants?
Tom Wallisch (10:12 PM)
Giants for sure!
Turok (MA)
what are the best headphone company and model to stay on your head when you ski
Tom Wallisch (10:12 PM)
SkullCandy Icon 2's
roockley (UK)
who do you think is going to win and with what trick tonight?
Tom Wallisch (10:14 PM)
I think bobby is gonna bring out that triple! and owe me money!
David Jansen (Norway)
Hey Tom! I have seen on your Facebook profile that you like Go'Morgen Yoghurt from Norway, and i was wondering what is your favorite flavour?
Tom Wallisch (10:15 PM)
Strawberry for sure!!
Alexander (Norway)
Would you be mad if someone stole your orange jacket-blue pants style when skiing? I bought a orange jacket and blue pants, and i also had the red full tilts, and everyone seems to get angry at me when I'm in the slope because "I don't got my own style"
Tom Wallisch (10:16 PM)
Naw, that's awesome. Rep it with pride man!
ned (mammoth mountain)
what do you think of the idea of a step up jump for a big air comp? to me it makes the airs not seem quite as big.
Tom Wallisch (10:18 PM)
Definitely not as big of air, but definitely safer! I think it just needs to be a big bigger with more pop next year!
Braden (Maryland)
What is your so called home mountain you ride from the east coast
Tom Wallisch (10:20 PM)
Wisp mtn in MD
Rick (Pittsburgh)
How much love you got for the boys still trying to hold down the east and make it somewhere someday?
Tom Wallisch (10:22 PM)
Madd respect, gotta do what you can with what you got. Shred on!
Ryan (Milwaukee, WI)
What are you studying at University of Utah? Do people recognize you on campus a lot?
Tom Wallisch (10:23 PM)
Business administration. And ya sometimes, but not too often
casey (maine)
I saw an interview where you talked about hitting an urban rail at the University of Utah...do you have that on video?
Tom Wallisch (10:25 PM)
Yep yep! Check out "Beggin for Change" www.4bi9media.com
Tom Wallisch (10:27 PM)
Love it! haha
Ryan (Milwaukee, WI)
Why aren't you doing Big Air?
Tom Wallisch (10:30 PM)
They didn't invite me! I guess i'm not much of a big hair skier

Give a shout out to the hood crew on twitter, facebook, and here
Tom Wallisch (10:31 PM)
SLay it hood crew!
Drew (Aspen)
Tom, the TV announcers just said that Bobby just did a "Double D" spin. What the hell is that? They said it stood for "Donut"???
Tom Wallisch (10:33 PM)

Tom Wallisch (10:33 PM)
TEBOW SUCKS
Sarah (Maryland)

Tom Wallisch (10:41 PM)
haha probably not. Cork 540 tails for sure though!
Ryan (Milwaukee, WI)
Why don't they have ski street at the xgames? You could dominate that event.
Tom Wallisch (10:43 PM)
That's what i'm saying man! Ski Street and Real Snow ski should be in X Games. They just don't like us skiers uh???
Arlen Valsjean (Endicottville, NY)
If you could do any sport pro except skiing what sport would it be?
Tom Wallisch (10:44 PM)
Skateboarding for sure. So steezy
Tom Wallisch (10:45 PM)
You!
Adam (Edinburgh)
Hey Tom could you wish me a happy birthday? I'm 18 today :)
