In order for a player to be elected to the Hall of Fame, he must obtain votes on at least 75 percent of ballots cast from the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Candidates may remain on the ballot for a maximum of 15 years. A candidate must obtain votes on at least five percent of ballots cast to remain on the ballot.

Jim Rice is SportsNation's lone pick for the Hall of Fame.

The top three Hall of Fame vote getters - Goose Gossage, Jim Rice and Andre Dawson - were also SportsNation's top picks, but only Rice, with his three-year spurt of dominance from 1977 to 1979 in which he averaged 41 home runs and 127 RBIs, received the required 75 percent needed for induction.

Goose Gossage, who appeared on all 15 ballots from ESPN's Hall of Fame voters, came up just short on SportsNation's list, appearing on more than 74 percent of the over 270,000 ballots cast.

Andre Dawson also just barely missed the cut in SportsNation's eyes. After appearing on 56 percent of ballots last year, Dawson rose to 71 percent this
year. Will he make the final jump next year?

Also of note, Tim Raines, in his first year of eligibility, appeared on 43 percent of SportsNation ballots, and Mark McGwire saw a slight increase in his backing, up from 23 percent last year to 30 percent this year.
