Which five athletes who demonstrated athletic excellence in 2007 should make up the All-SportsNation Team?

Forget those All-America squads. Disregard any All-Pro frivolities. Unlike a simple acknowledgment that an athlete is merely one of the best in his or her own sport, making the All-SportsNation roster means an athlete has what it takes to beat the very best from every sport.

So what are the criteria for such an awesome honor? Well, that's entirely up to you. You've got to match up sleek ballers with ultimate fighters. Home-run hitters with hot-dog eaters. Poker stars with Heisman winners. It's up to you to consider what truly matters.

After all, it's your team, so you decide which five athletes meet the criteria you establish as the very best of 2007.

  • Josh Beckett
    The Red Sox starter led the majors with 20 wins (the only 20-game winner in 2007). In the postseason he went 4-0 with a 1.20 ERA, was named the ALCS MVP, and helped the Red Sox win the World Series.
     
  • Tom Brady
    New England's quarterback set career highs for touchdowns passes and passing yards. He is also on pace to break Peyton Manning's single season record for touchdown passes.
     
  • Kobe Bryant
    The Lakers' star averaged over 30 points per game last year, which was enough to win the scoring title. He was also named to the All-NBA first team.
     
  • Joey Chestnut
    Jaws not only beat six-time defending champion Takeru Kobayashi at the 92nd annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, he set a new world record by downing 66 hot dogs and buns.
     
  • Randy Couture
    In March, Couture came out of retirement and defeated Tim Sylvia to capture his third UFC heavyweight title. Later in the year, Couture successfully defended his title by defeating Gabriel Gonzaga.
     
  • Sidney Crosby
    Sid the Kid led the NHL in points and became the second-youngest player in NHL history to win the Hart trophy, given to the league's most valuable player.
     
  • Tim Duncan
    The Big Fundamental averaged a double-double last season, as he led the Spurs to their fourth NBA title since his arrival in San Antonio.
     
  • Kevin Durant
    The first-team All-American won every conceivable award in 2007, including: the Oscar Robertson Trophy, the Adolph Rupp Trophy, the Naismith College Player of the Year award, the John R. Wooden Award, and the AP's National Player of the Year award.
     
  • Brett Favre
    This season, Favre has already thrown 25+ touchdowns, and has the second highest passer rating of his career (97.7). Plus, he's turned the Packers into one of the top teams in the league.
     
  • Roger Federer
    The Federer Machine kept rolling in 2007. Federer reached the finals of all four Grand Slams, winning the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open.
     
  • Jerom Freeman
    Freeman rushed for an NCAA Division II record 418 yards on 34 carries in the Owls' 56-28 victory over Bryant.
     
  • Justine Henin
    Henin finished the year as the top ranked player on the WTA Tour, after winning two Grand Slam titles: the U.S Open and the French Open.
     
  • LeBron James
    King James averaged over 27 points per game, was named to the All-NBA second team, and led the Cavaliers to their first NBA Finals appearance in team history in the 2006-2007 season.
     
  • Jimmie Johnson
    Johnson continued to experience success in 2007, winning his second-consecutive NEXTEL Cup title.
     
  • Kaka'
    AC Milan's attacking midfielder led the rossoneri to a UEFA Champions League title, and collected the World Soccer Player of the Year award, the Golden Ball for the best player in Europe, and the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
     
  • Doug Kent
    Kent won two major titles and was named the PBA Player of the Year for the 2006-07 season.
     
  • Marta
    The Brazilian international led her team to the final of the Women's World Cup, where she won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player and the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer. She was also named the FIFA World Player of the Year.
     
  • Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    In March, Mayweather defeated Oscar de la Hoya, by split decision, to earn the WBC Light Middleweight title. In December, he beat the previously undefeated Ricky Hatton to retain his WBC Welterweight title.
     
  • Darren McFadden
    Arkansas' star tailback finished second in the Heisman voting, and won the Doak Walker award for the nation's best running back. In his best performance of the season, McFadden rushed for career-high 321 yards against South Carolina.
     
  • Randy Moss
    One of Tom Brady's favorite targets, Moss is having one of his best statistical years, having set a career-high for touchdown catches in a season.
     
  • Scott Niedermayer
    The Ducks defensemen led the team to its first Stanley Cup title, and was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy for the MVP of the playoffs.
     
  • Dirk Nowitzki
    The Mavericks' big man led Dallas to the best record in the NBA, was named to the All-NBA first team, and collected his first MVP award.
     
  • Lorena Ochoa
    The 2007 Women's British Open champion toped the money list for the second year in a row, and won her second-consecutive LPGA Player of the Year Award.
     
  • Greg Oden
    Named a first team All-American by the Associated Press, as a freshman, Greg Oden helped lead Ohio State to the NCAA final. Later in the year he was the NBA draft's first-overall pick.
     
  • Candace Parker
    The SEC and National Player of the Year led the Lady Vols to their seventh women's basketball title and was named the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Players.
     
  • Adrian Peterson
    The rookie phenom broke the single-game rushing record in only his eighth game in the league. He was also named the starter at running back for the NFC Pro Bowl team.
     
  • Michael Phelps
    At the 2007 World Aquatics Championships, Phelps won seven gold medals and set five world records.
     
  • Alex Rodriguez
    The American League MVP had an incredible year, leading the majors in home runs (54), RBI (156), slugging percentage (.645), and OPS (1.067).
     
  • Tony Romo
    The Dallas quarterback has thrown over 30 touchdown passes and has a passer rating over 100 for one of the best teams in the league.
     
  • C.C. Sabathia
    The 2007 American League Cy Young winner was tied for second in the majors with 19 wins, and had an ERA of 3.21.
     
  • Tom Schneider
    Schneider won two World Series of Poker bracelets in 2007, and was named the WSOP Player of the Year.
     
  • Tim Tebow
    The Gator quarterback helped Florida upset Ohio State for the national title as a freshman, then, in his second year, he became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy.
     
  • Tiger Woods
    Tiger won his 13th major in 2007, with a win at the PGA Championship. He was named the PGA Player of the Year, and was the top money winner on the tour.
