Welcome to the Morning Quickie!
Dan Shanoff (9:02 AM)
It's Thursday, January 5. I'm your host, Dan Shanoff, creator and writer of the Daily Quickie on Page 2.
Steve (Ithaca)
Sorry to all the Instant Historians who were ready to declare Best. Team. Ever. Is Best. Indivisual Performance. Ever. good enough?
Dan Shanoff (9:03 AM)
how about Best. Game. Ever. Certainly best Title Game.
Dan Shanoff (9:03 AM)
Who needs a Heisman, by the way, when you get championship-game immortality.
Dan Shanoff (9:04 AM)
New Daily Quickie is up and ready, by the way.
Dan Shanoff (9:04 AM)
I couldn't sleep last night after the game and was up writing most of it.
Reggie (Orlando)
Vince Young is [superlative]! UT is [hyperbole]! That game was [superlative]!. . .Instant History rules!!! I was soooooo wrong about the Rose not being able to live up to the (outrageous) hype. . .
Mike (D)
So I didn't realize one of your resolutions for '06 was to rid yourself of the prediction curse!
Tim (NYC)
Best. Game. Ever.
Frankie (At work in the Evil Empire)
After watching the entire game last night (I am EXHAUSTED) and having soon-to-be Mrs. Evil Empire yelling in my ear all night long (does it ever get better Dan? I'm not even married yet and I get nagged watching sports), I have this to Reggie and Matt...dry your eyes because you are about to be multi-millionaries...I would be extremely happy to trade places with either one of them right now...
John (Cincinnati)
So, when is ESPN going to run a poll asking where Texas ranks amonst the historically great college football teams of all time?
Ben (Michigan City)
Dan, just read your DQ, if Texas/OSU played again right now, OSU would win just like they should have back in August! USC GAVE that game away!!!
sham (wbl)
Um...who won the Heisman again? Can they re-vote now?
KB (Baltimore)
Dan, you think the people who voted for the heisman want to have another round of voting?A certain player made a statement last night about why he thought he should have won it.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Best. Big. Game. Performance. EVER.
John (Portland, ME)
I'm thinking he might get overlooked this morning, so I'll mention him. Vince Young played a pretty darn good game last night.
Matt (DC)
Instead of instant history, how about instant analysis? OSU is next season's #1 because VY goes pro.... Bush will be the first pick, VY in the top 5, Leinart in the top 10.... and LenDale White will have a better career than ALL of them.
Mark (DC via Philly)
USC should have punted on 4th down with 2 minutes left. I don't care if you can win it on that play. They lost it on that play. Pooch punt and force Texas to go 90 in 2 minutes, not 50 yards.
Adam (Deep in the heart of Texas)
"Hooked 'Em" is right on, Dan! Go Horns!!!
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
What a way to end the season. I miss college football already.
KB (Baltimore)
I think Vince Young just torched the USC defense again.
cara (new york)
yo was there a game last night?
Joe (Ohio)
That game proved that Vince Young is the best QB in college football right now
Hannah (NYC via Blitzburgh)
So by virtue of this win, that whole USC playing the top teams in history is kind of null and void, right?
Matt (Fairfax)
Let's see, Pete Carroll... 4th and 2, national championship and dynasty on the line... and you leave the greatest college RB since Barry Sanders on the bench?? I can't be the only Pats fan from the late 90's who was smiling and nodding knowingly...
Michael (Marlton, NJ)
Apparently NFL scouts weren't impressed with Reggie Bush's lateral skills.
Scott (Boston)
The magic number for Texas defense was 4. As in sub-4.4. That was one fast defense.
DC (Altoona, PA)
Okay, let me say first of all that I was rooting for Texas last night and was sick of all the USC-Greatest of all Time nonsense. Plus, Vince Young's performance was the best college game I've ever seen one guy play. HOWEVER, did he have to make 1 tight throw the entire game. Seriously, his running is sick but did USC cover ANYONE? I've never seen that many wide open receivers in my life. Worst. Pass.Coverage.Ever.
Troy (Gainesville, FL)
I didn't believe for a second that USC could have taken Nebraska95 or Miami01, but after last night, these two teams could have given just about anyone a game. From a guy who thought Texas was the better team, I guess I was right, but not really--that was amazing...
sham (wbl)
Best Bowl Performances: 1. Vince Young 2006 Rose Bowl 2. Vince Young 2005 Rose Bowl. He shows up for big games.
Dan (Philadelphia)
Hey Dan, I was wondering if you've seen USC's defense? I haven't been able to locate it.
Kevin (VA)
Vince Young + Bowl Games = Sick
Joe (Chicago)
Vince Young definitely needs to stay in school. Look how well it worked for Leinhart. Didn't win the Heisman, the national championship, and won't be the first pick.
Dan Shanoff (9:09 AM)
If Vince Young stays in school one more year and, let's say, wins the Heisman and another national title, he will take the mantle of "Best College QB Ever" from Leinart. Young is probably ALREADY in the Top 5.
Matt (DC)
*cough* His knee was down *cough*
Dan Shanoff (9:10 AM)
I love replay in college football, but there's a serious problem with the application. Why some plays and not others, particularly on a TOUCHDOWN play? Why chance it? What's the harm in checking it out? They were willing to do it for a couple of other random pass plays.
Dan Shanoff (9:10 AM)
Interesting: Fans walk away saying they didn't use replay ENOUGH.
Scott (Dayton)
No one thought OSU was going to end a 34 game win streak and win a championship for the first time in 30+ years either...the parallels are eerie!
KB (Baltimore)
Vince Young =Big time players make big plays in big games!
Christian (High Point, NC)
The knee doesn't bother me. Texas would've scored a TD 6 out of 7 times, therefore, by shanking the XP, they got the statistical expected result. It's all good.
Lucas (Sault Ste. Marie, Canada)
If Texas gets to the title game next year, will everyone start calling them the new dynasty
Tim (ATL)
quit second guessing the 4th down call - Lendale White was averaging about 6 yards a carry up the middle the whole game... 9/10 times they make that conversion. Problem is, that one happened last night... still the right call
Dan Shanoff (9:11 AM)
I agree. LenDale White was the right guy to run that ball. He was unstoppable in short-yardage situations. Credit the Texas D for holding the line, improbably.
J.J. (Johnstown)
I was a little under the influence last night but how many catches did Texas's TE have? Everytime i looked up he had one.
John (Buffalo)
If the Bills had just lost to the Bengals - they would have had the #3 pick....(sigh) VY could have been a Bill
tom* (parkville, md)
The refs were off. The announcers were off. The players were off. The coaches were off. The game was awsome.
sham (wbl)
Like they wouldn't have scored from the 10 anyway. Who cares about the knee being down?
Chris (New York)
Can all the experts who said V. Young was crazy for believing he deserved the Heisman now go on the air and eat crow?
Clinton (Indianapolis)
Well, let's put it this way: USC is #3 all-time, and they lose to Texas? Texas gets their spot at #3 all-time. It's just like that transitive property nonsense some Northwestern guy wrote about a little while back.
KB (Baltimore)
If I was Pete I would have made the same call on 4th down. Young couldnt be stopped last night and there was no way I would have given him the ball back if I could avoid it. Plus White was just running through the Texas defense. Texas just made the right play at the right time.
Mike (Cbus)
Last time I checked, aren't the Heisman winners supposed to be in the game when it is down to the wire?
Chris (New York)
Loved the class of USC for saying that they gave the game away and Texas did not win it...
Scott (Boston)
One thing I thought about last night is how hard it is to turn a great postseason game into great draft position. Vince Young would still be drafted behind Bush and Leinart. UNlike the NCAA and the NBA where a good Tourney can propel you into the Lottery (see 05 UNC).
sham (wbl)
Let's say Young comes out. How can Houston, his own state, pass him up? That's guaranteed sellouts for a long time.
Frankie (At work in the Evil Empire)
Hear that? That is the sound of the USC Greatest. Team. Ever. bandwagon finally coming to rest after crashing about 8 hours ago...
Jeff (Cleveland)
The real national title game next year is the second game of the year: Ohio State at Texas.
Joe (Ohio)
I think Texas could beat the 49er's
Chris (New York)
Loved Pete's post game interview, even he admitted he didn't trust his defense to stop young, even if they had to go 90 yards instead of 50
J.J. (Johnstown)
So USC walks away with 1 title in their run? Lets get off the best of all time horse. LSU won it 2 years ago (AP is irrelivant now) and Texas won it this year. Granted USC was off last night but that happens.
Dave (Washington DC)
Can either team be considered great when they play "bullfighter" defense? Great teams are strong on both ends. See 1959 Syracuse lead the country for points scored and least points given up. That's a great team. These are great offensives.
Shannon (VT.)
There were so many missed tackles in the Trojan defense, man it was horrible, horrible! Wrap somebody up! Make a damn tackle! Did they have anyone playing spy on Young??
sham (wbl)
Texas' D was actually good. They held USC under their average.
Mike (Miami)
A classy move by Bush and Leinart to go to Texas' locker room to congratulate them after the game.
BT (Wichita)
So Leinart questions Young about the Heisman quote, then he says SC is still the better team last night. Seems a little classless IMO
RJ - Dallas
Reggie Bush sure looked like a good offensive Coordinator on the bench last night. Living in Dallas sucks today with all these Texas fans running their mouths.
Christian (High Point, NC)
I have to admit I most impressed by the last USC touchdown. Two Texas players got injured hitting the WR, and he still scored a TD.
BT (Wichita)
The question was "Did they have anyone spy Young" Well yeah, but Young juked his britches off every play.
Mike (MD)
USC lost the game in the first half with three turnovers (downs, stupid lateral, interception) in the red zone. That and the matador defense they played doomed them... great effort by Texas. Vince Young = Danny Manning in '88. I still believe USC is the better team top to bottom, but they didn't get the job done.
Josh (Boston)
While Bush's stat line wasn't too shabby last night, after the lateral and the fact his own coach didn't trust him on THE BIGGEST PLAY OF THE YEAR(4th down in the 4th), how can you justify him going 1st Dan?
Troy (Gainesville, FL)
I dont understand this "dominance in an era where dominance is impossible" talk. How about Miami just a couple years ago, and Texas now/next year? It seems to be dominant teams can and do happen.
KB (Baltimore)
Young play the game like Jordan does in the fouth quarter of championship games. He literarly willed his team to the win.
PA (Chicago)
Was it just me or did Leinart sound like a bit of a jerk in the post game interview?
Jon (DC)
By the way, I talked to some friends from LSU last night (including some current students), and you have no idea how thrilled they were to see USC lose.
John (Portland, ME)
...but Pete Carroll is a defensive wizard!
KB (Baltimore)
Now the question is does Young stay or go???
bryan (chicago)
Young should stay for his senior year because his game doesn't translate into the nfl. Snapping it and running won't work when everbody is fast or faster than him. He needs another year to develop his arm. Very accurate from 10 yards but his down the field throws were poor last night.
adam (dtown)
question to ponder...USC...great offense, Texas, great defense, 38 points. Texas great offense, USC sub par defense, 41 points...no question that USC still has better offense...defense cost then, and Texas' D really won the game, not "VY"
Jon (NYC)
can we start talking about dancing with the stars yet?
Jeff (Iowa)
Sorry I'm late, Dan. I heard a commotion outside, and it was Vince Young breaking tackles in my driveway.
Jason (Castle Rock, CO)
Reggie Bush? Matt Leinart? Texas had both of them rolled into one player and that was the difference. Also, with all this hype around Bush winning the Heisman and being the sure fire first pick, isn't it interesting that every time USC needed a big first down, they gave the ball to LenDale White?
ray (ann arbor,michigan)
reggie bush cannot run between the tackles! if he does not get a bit stronger,he could find himself a great kick returner, punt returner, and 3rd down back in the n.f.l!! what do you guys think?
Mike (FL)
Last might proved that Bush is not even the best player on his team.
tom* (parkville, md)
Kudos, Dan, for not over coaching this morning's Quickie. Great comments from all over.
Christian (High Point, NC)
It has nothing to do with trust of Bush. The 4th-down call was one they made all season, and every time it goes to White. End of story.
RyanJ (NYC)
i feel like shanoff is just sitting there and not adding to the convo... speak up little buddy!
Dan Shanoff (9:28 AM)
there are just so many comments to post... I think you all are doing an awesome job. It's a little unstructured, sure, but we're really hitting the right topics and saying some great things.
sham (wbl)
wow. already ripping on Young after the game. I think transcendent talent does translate to the NFL, but that's just my opinion.
Adam (Deep in the heart of Texas)
It's a lot more likely VY will come out now than had he lost. You don't need a Heisman to legitimize you after you play a game like that to conclude a season like he had.
Dan Shanoff (9:29 AM)
Yeah, but he can probably be even better in the NFL with one more college year.
Dan Shanoff (9:30 AM)
But here's the thing: Would Texas and Mack Brown really sacrifice wins to have Young develop into a better NFL-style QB? No. They'd say: Run Vince run! And he'd do it, because he's a winner first and a team guy second and doesn't seem to care about the NFL while wearing a Texas jersey.
Phil (Cleveland)
Does VY come out now after seeing how Leinhart did when he came back. And VY will have to compete with the overhyped Brady Quinn in next years draft.
Chris (D.C.)
He may be better after one more year, Dan, but I doubt his stock will ever be higher...he just beat a dynasty single-handedly. That won't happen again in 2006-07. Get that man an agent!
Lucas (Sault Ste. Marie, Canada)
Couldn't you say the same thing about Reggie though to? I don't know if he proved himself at all now last night. Mind you everyone thought he was the greatest thing just after Fresno State
Frankie (At work in the Evil Empire)
From this game, it is quite possible that Reggie Bush may have lost the overall No. 1 pick to VY...dont you think the Texans were salivating over Vince last night? UT hero + state of Texas * home boy - David Carr = fans in the stands...
Adam (Deep in the heart of Texas)
No doubt about that, and I still think he stays. I'm just saying that had he lost, I think 100% he stays. With the win and that performance, 50%-50%.
Matt (Bensenville)
I think Leinart had the quote of the night as he was walking off the field. Shelly Smith asked him what he was thinking about Vince Young's last drive for the touchdown and Leinart said, "We couldn't taclke him."
John (NY)
Do we really understand how great this game was. I mean it came down to the last 30 seconds. 4th and 5 and he ran it in untouched. What guy rushes for 200 and passes for 250+ in a game for it all. One of the most clutch performances in a big game ever!
Dan (Cleveland, OH)
So Dan, how can you think "an extra year of college to prepare" doesn't work in college basketball but does in college football?
Dan Shanoff (9:33 AM)
I think NFL QB is probably the toughest position in sports to play, and we can all agree that his game needs some work to translate to the NFL as best it can. My question is whether he'll get that chance at Texas next season.
Dan Shanoff (9:34 AM)
(By the way, Young Texans jersey would be the No. 1 seller in the NFL next season.)
Fraser (Toronto)
Why would Vince stay? Look what happened to Leinart!! He got overshadowed by a teammate and probably lost the #1 draft spot. Not to mention the risk of injury for a scrambling QB.
Jon (DC)
So does he take an insurance policy out on his knee and play a senior year? Or does he come out when he's a top 5 pick? Personally, I think Leinart hurt his stock by not coming out last year (and being the 9ers number 1), and in hindsight, losing this game and not winning the heisman raise the question of: was it worth it?
Jeff (Iowa)
If you look at the replays from last night, Young did not have to make the moves to get to the end zone he usually makes. The USC secondary was playing so soft that he was able to get out for those runs. His passing accuracy was outstanding, but all of them were 10-20 yard throws. The man played a great game, but I'm not sure Pete Carroll was on top of his last night.
sham (wbl)
By better NFL QB, do you mean better traditional dropback passer? I feel like some offensive coordinator will eventually figure out an offense that will utilize the talents of the Vicks and Youngs of the world. BTW, Young is a more accurate passer than Vick.
Jason (Castle Rock, CO)
Young is a great college QB, but if the Texans draft him first, he will get killed behind that horrible O-line. The only NFL-ready player I saw on the field last night was LenDale White.
Scott (Watertown, MA)
Pete Carroll loosened the reins on Leinart this year, letting him call some plays. Why wouldn't Brown do that for Young? That being said, I think Young should come out now. His stock (and his signing bonus) will never be higher than it is now.
PA (Chicago)
Last night was the reason VY was my first mancrush!
Dan Shanoff (9:36 AM)
We'll get you one of those "I Heart VY" T-shirts.
JT (Cleveland)
I can't wait to see Vince in the NFL. As amazing as he is, I can't help but wonder if the plays that he makes simply won't be available in the NFL. On the other hand, he dominated so effortlessly that it's hard to imagine anyone stopping him.
ray (ann arbor,michigan)
sorry dan but there is nothing left for vy to prove by staying he will be a top 3 pick in this years or next years draft! go pro vy!! go pro!!!
Scott (Watertown, MA)
Vince Young is not going to be a good NFL quarterback, or the number 1 pick. Sure he's fast, and he's got a good arm, but he throws flat-footed, and has a sidearm delivery. The Texans already have David Carr, why do they need another?
Phil (Cleveland)
I don't know about you, but I could have sworn I saw a flag at the end of the last play. Just the refs were overpowered by the players and the fireworks and decided to shut up.
adam (dtown)
umm....hadnt USC beat teams all year by outscoring people...they couldnt stop anything all year...what makes Vince doing this anything new...Texas D won that game
Henry (NY)
I think we should all ask about how successful Vince would be in the NFL? Aren't all the advantages he has on college players (size, strength) nullified immediately? His wierd side armish throwing motion would have to lead to a bunch of blocked throws and INTs as well.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
He wouldn't get the chance, his growth potential next year would be wasted, and he risks the chance of injury with the number of hits he takes a game. LEAVE Austin on the first plane out VY.
Jeff (Iowa)
Anyone who thinks Bush cost himself the #1 pick last night is insane. The draft is several months away, and Bush is NFL-ready. Remember, 18 months ago, a lot of people were ready to throw Young under the bus and move on. If Young comes out early, NFL coaches will dissect everything about him. When it comes to choosing, Bush goes first and Leinart follows, because they are both NFL-ready.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
I think with the Texans line you would need a guy that could scramble.
Fraser (Toronto)
Dan I think you're exactly right. An extra year in college doesn't mean Vince will be any more prepared for the NFL. He's better off from a career standpoint to be practicing with the big boys.
Jeff (Cleveland)
VY + Norm Chow's offense at Tennessee...
Dan (Cleveland, OH)
For all of the "Leinart hurt his stock" people. This wasn't about winning another Heisman, or another national championship. It was about being the biggest thing in SoCal and hooking up with hot actresses. Done and done.
Patrick (St Paul)
Isn't the draft in April...people always find something to pick at. Everyone is AWESOME in Dec/Jan and has thousands of problems and concerns in April.
Jason (Castle Rock, CO)
Vince should absolutely go pro now. Staying one more year when Mack Brown will call only 'Vince run left' and 'Vince run right' won't help at all. Plus, he's losing three o-linemen to graduation....but I still don't thing he will do well in the NFL. See Vick, Michael....
Johnstone (Bucktown)
I thought that Mike Vicks performance in the 99 Sugar Bowl was incredible and Vince Young made that showing look mediocre. His stock is so high he has to sell and leave Austin.
John (Portland, ME)
Have we ever spent an entire Morning Quickie talking about one game?
Nate (Madison)
He might have a different throwing motion, but he completes the passes still. But I'd still like to see his arm strength a little more.
John (NY)
Lendale White also helped his draft position after a sick game, 3 TDs. Stepped up when Bush was being stopped. This does not hurt Bush at all, he's stil a great talent. Young still needs more time but his value is at an all-time high right now and i think he has to take advantage of it.
Kevin (Milwaukee)
I want to know why this hurt R Bush's stock...he could go to any team, and put up numbers like 80 yrds rushing and 90 yrds recieving, plus what ever in return yrds, if he did that for your team, would you mind that he didn't go off for 200 yrds rushing...I THINK NOT!
Shawn (Minneapolis)
Was there ever a real life performance that reminded you of video game football like last night? Reminded me of all the Madden '05 arguments that started with just dropping back with Michael Vick and taking off for the first down everytime it got to 3rd or 4th down.
Matt (Bensenville)
You're crazy to think that Vince Young shouldn't be the number 1 pick. If Mike Vick has proved anything, mobile QB's can take a bad team and put them into the playoffs quicker than a pocket QB like Leinart. Reggie Bush had a nice stat line, but he wasn't even the best running back on his own team last night. And Vince Young has been huge in his last 3 "BIG" games, Michigan last year, Ohio State and USC this year.
Matt (Fairfax)
I know the anti-Vick bandwagon is rolling strong right now... but come on people, did we forget Vick was in the NFC Championship last year and the Pro Bowl this year? I'd say he's doing just fine and Vince Young will as well
Geoff (ATL)
I'm a Vick appologist, by nature, but VY is already a better QB than he is.
Patrick (Cleveland)
I think VY should go pro this year... just think of VY sitting the bench one year but being able to watch Steve McNair during his last year.
AF (AC)
Seems like the V and Y are getting worn down on everyone's keyboard
Jon (DC)
Does last night's game make the combine more important? As in, does Reggie Bush go from lock at #1 to needing to prove he's #1? And what about Leinart and White? Is the combine more or less important for them after last night?
Shannon (VT.)
Stay in school, enjoy another year of few(er) responsiblities, have fun extending your childhood, get a huge insurance policy, take ballroom dancing or yoga or ballet classes and have a good time not worrying about being hazed by vets or booed by inebriated and overexpected fans.
Patrick (St Paul)
I know we're talking Young now, but how about Lienert. Does he throw the ball with any authority? His passes looked all touch and no zing. Did anyone else get that impression?
Dan (Cleveland, OH)
By the way, all the "that wouldn't work in the pros" arguments work for Reggie Bush just as well. His offensive line won't give him 5 yards for free every time he touches the ball in the NFL (if it's the Texans, probably -5).
RyanJ (NYC)
no need to change topics,, but i need to cry out for the jets loss of herm edwards. OK back to vince...
Jonathan (Buffalo)
You can't teach big game play. Vince Young comes up big every time. And I think thats worth more then arm strength in the long run. Tom Brady doesnt have the greatest arm strength
KB (Baltimore)
Bush didnt hurt his stock but White and Young increase theirs for the NFL. Young proved that he can manage games and basically lead a fourth quarter drive which is something you have to do often to win in the NFL. White proved that he can run in between the tackles against a very good defense and he is an all down back.
Bryan, Pittsburgh
I couldn't believe how many plays Reggie Bush was on the bench. I was expecting the Heisman Trophy winner to be the star not the bench warmer.
DC (Altoona, PA)
Vince Young has to leave. When will his stock ever be higher? Never in that run first offense. Don't forget about Leinart's performance last night. Did he help himself. He was 29/40 for over 340 yards against a defense that actually has people near his intended receivers. I still think his game translates better to the pro game.
Greg (Baton Rouge)
Leinart had a great second half and definitely had some authority on his throws. Look at the numbers; he did pretty much all he could. I wonder if Caroll wishes they threw it on that 4th down.
Scott (Watertown, MA)
All touch and no zing? People said the same thing about Brady- that's not such a bad trait. (And I disagree, by the way. That TD pass to Jarrett had some zing).
Jeff (Iowa)
Young will be a fine NFL QB. His stock will never be higher than it is today. Unfortunately, the draft is in late April. Texas has a lot coming back, and judging from his reaction in New York in December, he would really, really like to have that Heisman.
Patrick (Cleveland)
To elaborate on Dan (from Cleve) comment... My friend and I were arguing last night who would be a better NFL running back Bush or White? and we came to the conclusion that you wouldn't get a good assesment given the scope of the teams they could end up at. What if White ends up in Denver and replaces Ron Dayne.
DC (Altoona, PA)
LenDale White looked like a young Jerome Bettis last night. (A lttle smaller but the same style). I think of everyone in the game he may end up with the best pro career. 235 pounds and he has some speed. I think that translates very well to the next level.
RyanJ (NYC)
Best.Quickie.Ever. which is fitting following the best game ever
Dan Shanoff (9:50 AM)
Dare I say it?
Dan Shanoff (9:50 AM)
Let's.
Dan Shanoff (9:50 AM)
Move.
Dan Shanoff (9:50 AM)
On.
Dan Shanoff (9:51 AM)
Now THAT was a great discussion.
Dan Shanoff (9:51 AM)
That was like one of the greatest barstool, everyone-talking-over-each-other, yet-still-making-sense conversation I've had in a long time.
Scott (Watertown, MA)
No! Not done. We didn't even get to the defenses.
Chris (CT)
I can't believe I have missed this whole chat. This is the last straw...I will now look for a new job!
Dan Shanoff (9:52 AM)
Let's finish up with a Free For All. Anything you want to talk about that we haven't mentioned yet? Yes, you can make more comments about the game last night (any angles we missed), but also any other sports news that's on your mind.
Dan Shanoff (9:53 AM)
Perhaps your predictions for Dancing with the Stars? (For those of you new to the MQ, this was a particular fascination last summer.)
sham (wbl)
I think the rapping Quickie takes the cake, but this is a strong second.
Frankie (At work in the Evil Empire)
Dan, when does Page 2's Hottest Female Athlete voting start?
Dan Shanoff (9:54 AM)
I don't know, but I hope Jenn Sterger is a non-athlete write-in.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Kansas City uses more draft picks on coaches than Detroit does on WRs
Fraser (Toronto)
How about Donohoe getting the axe!! About time!!
Joe (Billings, MT)
Don't know how she'll do, but can't wait for a broader audience to see Stacy Kiebler's legs...
KB (Baltimore)
The Super Bowl has a tough act to follow!
John (Portland, ME)
I'm routing for Kenny Mayne, but Stacy Keibler will probably win.
Matt (Fairfax)
Not sure if I should root for Jerry Rice out of habit, or root against him so he doesn't spend too much time embaressing himself on national TV
Michael (Marlton, NJ)
I'm rooting for Kenny Mayne to win Dancing With The Stars. He's tall.
Domes (Pittsburgh)
Chris Quinn was amazing last night against Pitt, I watched that game over the first quarter of the Rose Bowl.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
I think your dark horse has to be Kenny Mayne. He looks like he has the flair for the dramatic like Peterson from Seinfeld last year.
Steve (Ithaca)
Stacy Keibler will win. Hot + Former Dancer = Gold.
Scott (Boston)
Kenny Mayne has a funny log from DWTS on ESPN.com
RyanJ (NYC)
the jets have officially entered the 5 year rebuilding phase after allowing herm edwards to leave. sometimes i wonder why i even bother with gang green.
Lucas (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario)
I agree with your comment Dan, Vince could win Dancing with the Stars
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Man time flies in the MQ. I can definitely say it was the best MQ this year.
Hende (OH)
LeBron and another triple double, but now Hughes is hurt for a couple of months. Will this re-enforce LeBron for MVP if the Cavs continue their winning ways?
sham (wbl)
what happened to Kenny Mayne? He needs to get behind the SC desk again. He is NOT a legit celebrity.
Tim (NYC)
Did I REALLY see Kanny Mayne in a promo for that show?
Dan (Cleveland, OH)
To complete a "nobody should be good in the pros" sweep. I'm a little worried about Leinart. He's well on his way to breaking Troy Aikman's concussions by age 30 record. That can't be good can it?
Kevin (Cincy)
Dan, who is Jenn Sterger? Are you trying to be hip by giving FACEBOOK a shoutout?
Hende (OH)
Good call on Sterger from the Hot/Not. The camera is kind to her and her friends.
Drew (FL)
Can we get Sean Salsibury and John Clayton in here to argue the merits of 2005 USC team
Lucas (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario)
Am I the only Bengals fan who believes we might win on Sunday
Tim (Indy)
This is my first Quickie...needless to say I am never working again.
Dan Shanoff (9:57 AM)
I think the MQ regulars would agree with me that you've come on a good day.
Dan Shanoff (9:58 AM)
Not true, actually: Most days are usually really good...today happened to be Top 2 or 3.
Jeff (Iowa)
Stacy Keibler is on Dancing with the Stars? My wife will never let me watch it now.
Greg (Baton Rouge)
I heard that Vince Young is coming back to Texas early to single-handedly put out all of the wildfires. Then he's going to rebuild the levy in NO. This will all be done before next week. This guy is amazing.
Drew (Philly)
With the 14th pick in the the NFL Draft the Philadelphia Eagles select Lendale White. I can dream can't I!
Scott (Boston)
I don't think this is debatable. Rapping MQ is easy #1. This is a very, very good #2. But c'mon...we were rapping about sports.
Scott (Watertown, MA)
Top 2 or 3 like we thought USC was yesterday? Or top 2 or 3 like we think Texas is today?
Dan Shanoff (9:59 AM)
That was a brilliant comment.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Good hustle today Dan, take a breather.
Tim (NYC)
They should pair Kenny and Dan on DWTS. Now THAT would be a ratings winner.
Dan Shanoff (9:59 AM)
Some day, they will pick me. Ah well...
Dan Shanoff (10:00 AM)
Our hour is up. This was fantastic. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Check you back here tomorrow at 9 sharp for an NFL weekend playoff preview! See ya! Hook 'em!
