Craig (2:04 PM)
Thanks for joining me on this holiday. We are getting closer to signing day. We have our NSD coverage on ESPNU from 12-6 PM EST as well as coverage on ESPN2 at 5PM. In other news, the nation's #1 rated guard JB Walton will make his announcement tomorrow on ESPNU at 6:30PM EST. Penn State, Nebraska, and Florida State fans will want to be sure to tune in for that.
Craig (2:07 PM)
I apologize - we will be delayed about 5 minutes - Thanks
Craig (2:15 PM)
Sorry about that - let's get started
what day is NSD?
Craig (2:16 PM)
So craig... Whats the word on Walton, Smith, Spiller and Ball? Can you tell us FLORIDA STATE FANS how likely it is that each one of these guys come here? Thanks Craig!
Craig (2:19 PM)
I looks bleak for FSU fans for Walton - that is most likely a PSU & Nebraska race. Spiller - I think the chances are real good he winds up at FSU. I would almost go out on a limb a say it is close to a lock. Ball not sure, it is possible he may have to go a different route. Smith, FSU has a shot
Craig--I hear a lot of conflicting stories about ND and Mustain...what is the straight scoop--who droppped whom and where do you think Mitch will wind up...thanks.
Craig (2:22 PM)
Like we said before with ND & Mustain, you have to look at the big picture. The Irish already have 2 quarterbacks and are in a very good spot to possibly land Jimmy Clausen next year. I am sure the Irish would have loved to landed Mustain, but at this point, I think they felt it was in their best interest to go with what they have. Also Mustain probably sees that also and will look elsewhere.
Craig (2:22 PM)
Where he will wind up? that is tough info to come by - have to wait and see.
Craig my man... If you were to guess between Bama and FSU where does Smith go? And just how good is CJ Spiller?
Craig (2:25 PM)
Many people have Bama as the leader for Smith (at least in the state of AL), but if that is the case, why has he not verbaled already to them? Right now I believe all schools have a shot at him (by all I mean - Bama, FSU, LSU, and USC)
Craig (2:26 PM)
Spiller is an excellent all purpose back with excellent quickness
How good is the tight end that committed to PSU on Friday?
Craig (2:27 PM)
I assume you mean Quarles. He's a good player who was an oversized receiver in HS. He's got a great build, good ability and he's physical enough to block, but there may be a learning curve there. He Could excel in an H-back type role. Bottom line, he's a nice pick up for the Lions
anything on how/if the michigan recruits can step up and deliver
Craig (2:30 PM)
I think the Wolverines are looking at 5 players with the ability to contribute if needed. Eugene and S. Brown provide depth in the secondary and Eugene could step in play right away. Graham has the ability and frame to play right away also. Michigan fans have been worried this fall but Michigan is landing some very good players
Joey (Florence, AL)
Any chance McElroy signs with Alabama over Texas Tech?
Craig (2:32 PM)
McElroy is firm on Tech and will end up there, but if you are a Bama or Colorado fan, you have to feel like you have a chance with him at least visiting. Bama has the least appealing offense to a QB of the three, but they may have the best chance to play sooner. So it comes down to what McElroy is looking for.
Chad (Columbia, SC)
Are the rumors true that Graham was looking at Penn State?
Craig (2:34 PM)
Espect Graham to be a Woverine on NSD
Tom (South Bend, IN)
Is there merit to news that Sam Young has narrowed his list to just ND and USC? Will the early-entries on Trojan Linemen hurt ND's chances?
Craig (2:39 PM)
Yes there is merit to that. The reason why we were dealyed is beacuse I was on the phone with Young's father. He told me that he will announce on Thursday on ESPNnews, and it looks like it is between ND & USC (he did leave an out and say possibly someone else). The bottom line is they paired down their choices to a handful and have left the ultimate decision up to Sam.
Craig (2:41 PM)
As for who will it be, ND or USC -- I don't know. ND, he does have a teammate going there, but USC presents some good opportunites. We'll have to see on Thursday.
David (St. Louis)
If A.J. Jones has narrowed it down to to Bama, South Carolina, and Florida which do you think is the favorite?
Craig (2:42 PM)
I think you will see Florida be the school. It's close to home and he has struck up a friendship with Fayson I believe. But 2 past teammates go to SoCar & I know he really liked his visit to Bama - so both have a shot - but I think in the end it will be Florida.
Rick (Ft. Myers)
Hey Craig, FSU fan here... where do you see FSU finishing in terms of recruiting class ranking when its all said and done?
Craig (2:45 PM)
Still time left - I looks like FSU is in position for a top 10 finish possibly. Some big names still out there. Spiller will help elevate this class, so would a player like Sims or Mike Morgan. FSU usually finishes well, so we have to wait and see what kind of push they can make.
Is Snead the only QB commited to Texas?
Craig (2:47 PM)
No they also have Sherrod Harris - who is a very talented QB in his own right.
Enough about FSU what about Ohio Statem things seem to be shaping up nicely
Craig (2:50 PM)
Yes they do -- Ohio State seems to be putting togther a very good class with many of the top players from Ohio. Landing Rose was big, he's a very impressive player. Also landing Johnson out of California was a very big move for them. That is a talented LB to lure away from the west coast.
How about some info on the Sooners for a change?
Craig (2:52 PM)
Oklahoma has very quietly put togther a very good class. They landed the #1 RB and he and Peterson could combine for a lethal 1-2 punch if he does not redshirt.
Can we talk about a team that is not currently a national power.....like Missouri? Thanks
Craig (2:57 PM)
Missouri is putting together solid class, but maybe not doing as well as one would hope. Only D-I football school in the state. Near two talented areas in St Louis and KCM. They have been competitive, but it seems they are capable of more. 2006 class has some good players like Jeremy Maclin and Tim Barnes, and they did lure away Dominic Grooms from South Florida who is an atheltic QB.
Do you think Jake Locker will be the starting quarterback for the Washington Huskies next year?
Craig (3:01 PM)
He certainly has the ability to be. He should be in the mix.
Mike (San Francisco)
Hi Craig, how good of a recruiting class do you think Cal has?
Craig (3:05 PM)
Cal has a good class. Derrick Hill is an explosive defensive tackle and a nice get over USC for them. Riley could be Tedford's next gem at the QB spot. Guarnero is one of the top OL in the country and they landed him out of Colorado. Plus they lured JUCO DE Rulon Davis away from Nebraska. Nice job ny Cal so far to keep pace in the PAC-10
Craig (3:06 PM)
That is all I have time for today - Remember JB Walton's announcement Tuesday night at 6:30 EST on ESPNU- take care.
