THE PULSE (6:23 PM)
Hey everybody! The NFL Conference Championship weekend awaits. Saturday, we'll talk plenty of football on THE PULSE. Here is our list of guests ....
THE PULSE (6:29 PM)
THE Shaun Alexander will make an appearance before the big game.
THE PULSE (6:30 PM)
Merrill Hoge and Mark Schlereth will be taking your questions and offering plenty of analysis. (But we really want to know what you think. Soundoff right here -- Panthers or Seahawks?? Steelers or Broncs?? Take a stand! Let us hear it!)
Jake (San Bernadino)
Who else will be on the The Pulse this week?? It is just football?
THE PULSE (6:32 PM)
Glad you asked, Jake! We'll also have Timberwolves star Wally Szczerbiak on the show AAAAND X Games Moto hero Brian Deegan!
Jay (Las Vegas, NV)
Why doesnt my man WallyWorld get more attention from the media as being a high quality shooter in the NBA? he is a career .500+ FG shooter, and that is a rare statistic to find in the NBA. Ray Allen, Dirk Nowitzki Peja Stojakavich and even Reggie Miller cant lay claim to such an impressive FG percentage. So where is the love?
THE PULSE (12:11 PM)
C'mon Jay, he's on our show. We give your man his props!
Pete (Las Vegas)
I'm new to The Pulse. What do I do?
THE PULSE (12:20 PM)
Welcome Pete. The Pulse is on ESPNews from 1-4 ET today. We take your questions for our guests and comments about today's topics and put them on air! Send 'em in using the fields below, that's all there is to it!
Lana (Ft. Lauderdale)
What are today's topics that we should soundoff on?
THE PULSE (12:22 PM)
Well, of course we want your take on the NFL Conference Championship games. I'm also looking for comments on ... Antonio Davis ... Shaun Alexander ... Martina Hingis ... Pat Summitt and any of the college basketball games going on today.
THE PULSE (12:23 PM)
You can send in questions to Shaun Alexander, Wally Szerbiak, Brian Deegan, Andy Katz, Rick Majerus or Merrill Hoge -- just be sure to start your question with the name of the guest you're writing to so I can keep 'em straight.
Casey (Sioux Falls)
Yeah,I'm new to the whole thing too. Wally is a great shooter, but he doesn't get credit because in games he isn't that effective.
THE PULSE (12:24 PM)
Welcome to you too, Casey. You've got the right idea already. Just sent in your opinions and questions right here and you could see them on TV this afternoon.
Erik (San Dimas, CA)
Welcome one and all to another exciting 3 hour edition of THE PULSE
Jamie
Is the Pulse on?
THE PULSE (1:08 PM)
Heck yes, Jamie. We're rolling. If you're near a TV, flick on ESPNews. Type a little, watch a little -- The Pulse is a lesson in multi-tasking but we think it's worth it when you send in a comment and see it on air today!
Joe (South Bend)
This is really great - enjoy the show
Sonia (Gainesville)
Ahh another glorious day with the Pulse. I would just like to congratulate Pat Summitt. Since day 1 she's molded the TN program. She could probably coach any sport out there and do well.
THE PULSE (1:12 PM)
Thanks for joining us, Sonia. And thanks for the comment. I'm interested in all of your thoughts on Pat Summitt. What do you think. 900 wins, you can't argue with that. Where does she rank among Dean Smith, Coach K, Wooden etc ... and should we even be comparing her to them?
Alex (Brooklyn )
Could I post a comment?
THE PULSE (1:12 PM)
Alex, you can say whatever you like!
THE PULSE (1:13 PM)
Right now we've got Ed Werder talking about the Panthers and Seahawks. What do you think??
Taylor Holley (Addison,Texas)
Seahawks will win Because they want it more than Carolina.
Joey (New Jersey)
I feel that the Broncos and Seahawks would be the better overall matchup for Super Bowl 40
Dereck, Yakima Wa
For the Seahawks to still be getting badmouthed is riddiculous. They worked their way through the NFC, doesn't matter how they won but they won. Now when they end up in the superbowl it will be because of the absence of Foster, or the lackluster play of Peppers, not that they beat a good Carolina team... when does the respect come?
Zach Brown (Fairhaven, MA)
Is there any way the Seahawks defense can stop Steve Smith?
Alex (Brooklyn )
Listen the Panthers have won on the road twice by an average of 15 and a half of points and their opponents have only scored 21 points combined in two games. The panthers while averaging 26 points a game will win 20-10 without DeShaun Foster
Jason (Newton Falls,OH)
It will be hard to stop Steve Smith ,but i think the Seahawks can do it.Joe Jurevicius will have a career day .
Hayden (Springdale, AR)
Seattle has gone throught horrible playoff experiences with St. Louis and Green Bay and they deserve this. If Matt Hasselbeck can get over the pressure of not having Shaun Alexander 100% healthy, I expect Seattle to come out with the victory
Dieter (Gig Harbor, WA)
The Seahawks have never been to the Super Bowl. I think they will come out with a passing attack early then get Alexander involved. I think the fast paced offense will be too much for Carolina therefore i pick the Seahawks to win 27-21.
Mitch (Lincolnton, NC)
How good is Seattle's D? All anyone really hears about is the high-powered offensive attack.
THE PULSE (1:22 PM)
You're on TV, Mitch!
Graham (Philly)
Do you think that Rhodes will leave Trufant on an island v. Steve Smith? It's a risk, but if Trufant can keep him to an average day, I don't see the Panthers being able to gash that defense otherwise.
THE PULSE (1:23 PM)
You're on too, Graham!
THE PULSE (1:25 PM)
Great stuff guys! How bout some college hoops chatter.
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Pitino is the 2nd best coach in the NCAA behind Coach K.
Adam (Cincinnati)
Louisville is certainly good but Dean's absence is one of the worst things that could happen to them. Who fills in and can they provide the leadership?
John (Storrs, Connecticut)
UConn is going to tear up Louisville today!!
Eric (Detroit)
If St. Johns can upset Pitt they better crack the top 25.
Hayden (Springdale, AR)
Am I seeing what I think Im seeing? St Johns LEADING undefeated PITT?
THE PULSE (1:37 PM)
Yep, it's 46-36 St. John's in the second half.
Adam (Cincinnati)
Go Pitt! They're one of the three undefeateds but they're only ranked 9? Under-rated? Definitely
Max: Franklin Indiana
St. Johns is getting ready to beat Pitt. any chane of all three undefeateds loosing today?
THE PULSE (1:41 PM)
That's a tall order, Max.
Jack (Miami)
See you later Iowa! Have a nice time out of the top 25 for the rest of the season
THE PULSE (1:41 PM)
Iowa is just getting trampled by the Spartans.
Eric (Detroit)
how bout them spartans? another win today puts them 8-0 at home....how far will they go?
hayden (springdale)
im also new to the pulse is it true that Sammy Sosa could be a Washington National?
THE PULSE (1:44 PM)
Very true, Hayden. That's what we're hearing over here.
Jason (Newton Falls,OH)
I cant beleive Texas Tech getting stomped by Oklahoma today. What's up with that, Doug?
THE PULSE (1:44 PM)
I don't know, but I'm nervous that Bobby Knight is going to blow a gasket after this one.
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Bobby Knight blowing gasket, theres a shocker!
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Is North Dakota State this good or Wisconsin this bad?
THE PULSE (1:47 PM)
Never underestimate the Bison.
Eric (Detroit)
I've never even heard of the Bison.
THE PULSE (1:53 PM)
Actually, I think SDSU must have just changed their mascot, maybe. Didn't they used to be the Indians, or something?
Jack
forget the bison, let's talk football!!
THE PULSE (1:54 PM)
Your wish is my command.
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
Plummer doesn't stand a chance aginst "BLITZBURGH"
sam (MD)
The Steelers really deserve to win it this year, although I'm a Packers fan I'm really pulling for Bettis. He's one of the best guys in the league
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Steelers and Panthers will be in Detroit in 2 weeks!!! Here we go Steelers!!!
Michael (Paragould, AR)
how many times do I have to hear about the steelers. Is it just me or does cowher just plain stink in AFC championship games. 1-4, you gotta be kidding me!
Erica (Wash DC)
Pittsburgh will win it all... they have worked the hardest and it has showen.... Bill C. is due for a Ring....
Mike (NY)
Alright Mr. Pulse, what do you think ? I'm thinking Steelers and Seahawks in Supe XL. What about you??
THE PULSE (1:57 PM)
Mr? ... Mr. Pulse? ... Careful, Mikey. Don't assume.
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Hopefully the Steelers don't choke in the championship game again...maybe this one will be different since it's on the road for the 1st time
Jason (Newton Falls,OH)
Pittsburgh has no chance against the Broncos blitz. John lynch is going to put a hurting on Rottenburger!!!!
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
I think Bettis will be the main back for Pitt in this game...he will just run over the Denver D-line.
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Not to interrupt, but Pitt is now BEATING St. Johns!!!!!!!!!!
THE PULSE (1:58 PM)
We can move seamlessly from the Steelers to the Panthers. It is all tied up on the hardcourt 48-48.
THE PULSE (1:59 PM)
Saint John's just went up by one! Check this game out! Only 1:35 left!
Eric (Detroit)
WE NEED AN IN-GAME EXTRA
THE PULSE (1:59 PM)
You got it!
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
Wow this is a low scoring game.
Nico (Simi Valley,CA)
Although I'm a UCLA fan, I like Pitt because they are tough and physical. Jamie Dixon is a very underrated coach
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Krauser will put it out for the Panthers!
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
The Panthers CB's are physical enough to help on the run, the PANTHERS WILL BEAT DOWN THE SEAHAWKS
THE PULSE (2:01 PM)
Wrong Panthers, Rohan!
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
St. John's just lost their best player on D.
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Pitt's Panthers will win today...Carolina's Panthers will win tomorrow...along w/Pittsburgh's Steelers!!!!!
Adam (Cincinnati)
I got the Johnnies: They want it more. Wouldn't you if you had the chance to take down an undefeated?
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
16-0!!!!
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
I'm also a Bruin fan since Ben Howland is in Westwood...I wish he were with Pitt though Dixon has done a good job.
Nico (Simi Valley,CA)
It's a defensive coach's dream come true.
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
This will prove to me if Pitt is Final Four potential.
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Pitt seems confused out on the court, upset is looming.
Eric (Detroit)
a basket for st. john's and this one's over
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Assuming Pitt can pull this one out, they should be in the top 5 based on their record...as weak as their non-conference schedule was, it's probably stronger than the #2 Gators
scott (indiana)
is florida an actual contender
Adam (Cincinnati)
This could be Pitts telling game. Show themselves, their opponents, and the nation they are ready for anything and anyone.
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
It's over, St. John's is gonna do it.
THE PULSE (2:05 PM)
42 seconds on the game clock!
Nico (Simi Valley,CA)
The Red Storm is a very dangerous team. They have a very good team flying under the radar.
THE PULSE (2:06 PM)
p.s. Wally Szczerbiak is up next after this game.
Adam (Cincinnati)
With a basket, we got two undefeateds
Adam (Cincinnati)
BEAUTIFUL PLAY!
Eric (Detroit)
GAME OVER
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Pitt should go for a quick bucket and then foul
Maria
Duke and Florida are on the block now ... and DUKE IS LOSING!!!
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Florida is a contender because of Billy Donovan, he is a great coach.
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Duke game is tied now they will win, JJ Reddick is going off already with 13.
Marc (Pitt)
Florda should go down in ranking just because they played savannah St. during conference play.
Jason (Newton Falls,OH)
Duke will not lose today i see Redick having a 40 plus point game.
Mark (Hartford)
What's Wally doing?
THE PULSE (2:11 PM)
He's just chilling while we show you the end of this game.
Alex (Brooklyn)
Now pitt is the underdog.
THE PULSE (2:12 PM)
St. John's is four seconds away from a win!
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
WOW! Pitt is done.
Adam (Cincinnati)
Redick always has a 40 plus point game :-) That kid is insane!
THE PULSE (2:13 PM)
Duke's losing to Georgetown by seven right now. One unbeaten is about to go down ... another on the way???
Alex (Brooklyn)
The John's will win now. Woohooooo.
THE PULSE (2:14 PM)
This one's over, folks. St. John's has upset No. 9 Pittsburgh 55-50.
Paul (Sommerville)
Here's Wally!!!
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Is wally going to take emails?
THE PULSE (2:15 PM)
Yep
Kyle (Cold Spring, MN)
How have you been able to play so well with all the trade talk going on?To Wally Szczerbiak
Joey (New Jersey)
Wally, how would you define KG as a person and a player?
Andy Eaton, OH
What an honor it was to be a Miami (of Ohio) Alumni seeing the performance that Wally put on while at Miami and the Sweet 16 run that will be a great memory. My question is this, The MAC has always been overlooked for at large bids and getting superstar athletes such as you, Wally. Wally, what do you think we can do to get our conference more recognition, and be able to bring in more special athletes like yourself?
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
Wally, you are having a terrific season and you know KG is being KG as usual.. so why are the T-Wolves struggling?
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
Wally, as a grad of Miami (OH), what do you think of the success that Ben Roethlisberger is having with the Steelers?
Ronnie (Saint cloud, Minnesota)
Hi Wally ..How would you like to play with Ron Artest
THE PULSE (2:17 PM)
Great questions for Wally, folks. Let's see what he gets to.
Ian (Delluth)
Wally! Would you ever go into the stands if you saw a fan in the face of someone you love?
THE PULSE (2:19 PM)
You're on, Ian.
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
The heat need Wally, they should give up antione Walker.
Bet (Dallas)
Who's after Wally??
THE PULSE (2:21 PM)
X Games moto man Brian Deegan is on the way. Any Metal Mulisha fans out there? The X Games kick off next week in Aspen, Colorado, you know?
dennis (washington d.c)
i kinda dont pay attention to the x-games
THE PULSE (2:25 PM)
You must be old, dennis. Sorry you're out of the loop. Get with it.
kevin (USC)
C'mon man. X Games are the future.
dennis (washington d.c)
but that guy is tough
THE PULSE (2:27 PM)
there you go. that's the spirit.
Alex (Brooklyn)
Hey Brian you scared me, falling off your bike is just about the scariest thing that could happen.........in the air but holy mack you can survive that.
Adam (Cincinnati)
X-games are 90 percent half mental --- Yogi Berra
THE PULSE (2:29 PM)
ahah.
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
will he take emails?
THE PULSE (2:29 PM)
yep
Quinn (Venice Beach)
Bri, You, Twitch and Faisst will be in Aspen competing in ESPN's Winter X Games. Call it â?? Mulisha medal sweep??
owen (minny)
Deegs, I saw on your website you new Benz!! Whatâ??s more fun to drive, a bike or the new Kompressor V8?
THE PULSE (2:31 PM)
You too, Owen!
THE PULSE (2:31 PM)
160 mph!
Adam (Cincinnati)
7 FIGURES! I'M IN THE WRONG BUSINESS!!!!!!!
Bo (Portland)
What's after Deeg?
THE PULSE (2:33 PM)
I'll need some comments about what you guys expect from Shaun Alexander and I'll need some comments about what you think about the whole Antonio David incident.
Jon (KC)
Is Antonio Davis a moron or what? I can understand his concern for his wife -- but now it appears his wife was the problem. Put you pride away and apologize. Or pay up.
Ronny (NY)
I think the Antoino Davis suspension is to harsh. The guy was protecting his family.
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Antonio Davis did the right thing, family comes before basketball.
Dieter (Gig Harbor, WA)
Shaun Alexander is the one of the best if not THE RB in the NFL he turns tackles for a loss into solid gains consistently, and at the goal line there is nobody better.
Alex (Brooklyn)
Ohh yeah I had a whole research paper over that Davis incident. The NBA is too defensive-like over these things. He goes into the stands well, to fight or to see a family member in trouble, NBA- I don't care suspension. He went into the stands to protect his wife, what if she was injured? What could he do? Watch? Terrible suspension.
Victor alexandria,la
antonio davis deaserves to be suspended. he had no buisness going into the stands it uncalled for.
dennis (washington d.c)
what kind of person would just play a basketball game knowing your wife was in trouble
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
It takes 2 people to create a problem...Davis's wife needs to be more responsible and get away from the situation if there is a potential problem.
THE PULSE (2:42 PM)
OK, good comments guys. We'll use these a little later. Let's change gears for a sec, now. What do you expect from the concussed Shaun Alexander tomorrow?
Trevor (Raleigh, North Carolina)
I think that Shaun Alexander will be able to play but will not be 100%
Vinny (Longmeadow)
Shaun Alexander will always be fabulous no matter what he is a tough running back and will have an 100 yard game as usual
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Shaun Alexander hasn't rushed for more than 45 yards in a playoff game, I don't think the Panthers D is going to be the first one to let him light up the D.
Brian (Lake Worth, FL)
I expect it to be a long day for Seattle...between Alexander's concussion, off the field problems with Locklear, and a lack of big game experience...not to mention Steve Smith
Leon
Change subjects? im still waiting for wally
THE PULSE (2:45 PM)
You missed Wally, Bro! That's what you get for walking out on The Pulse, you can't miss a minute! Any questions for Alexis Hornbuckle, Tenn Lady Vols star???
Victor alexandria,la
alexis you go girl.
Adam (Cincinnati)
900 Cigars... Her lungs would be pitch black! Is there such a thing as too much victory?
Henry (Connecticut)
He Alexis, as a UConn fan, I can?t root for you but I do wish you the best. What do you think about parity in women?s hoops. The Big East and ACC are breathing down the SEC necks this year. Can you feel it? Good luck tomorrow!
THE PULSE (2:49 PM)
Good question Henry, let's see what I can do!
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Alexis, will you be going into the crowd to stand up for a family member anytime soon?
THE PULSE (2:49 PM)
Easy, Wingo.
THE PULSE (2:50 PM)
You're on, Henry!
Adam (Cincinnati)
Does anybody in the sports universe compare to Pat Summit?
Sonia
She could probably coach any sport out there and do well.
Brett
Now what??
THE PULSE (2:52 PM)
Now we'll talk a little men's hoops. How bout it, I mean, Georgetown is beating Duke by 12!
Trevor (Raleigh, North Carolina)
Duke is going to loose because they are overated and they are not going to survive another Virginia Tech game!
woody (atl)
duke is the best in collage basketball
Rohan Nadkarni (Coral Springs, FL)
Duke will pull it out with Coach K's guidance and JJ's explosiveness.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
go G-Town go! (until you play 'Nova and get crushed...)
Jeremy (New York)
I hope Duke looses
dennis (washington d.c)
its not that duke is overated, its just that they cant keep winning
Jon (KC)
Come on Duke!! After all -- no FSU grad will want to see the Gators ranked number 1.
THE PULSE (2:56 PM)
Everybody has their own motives, I see.
THE PULSE (2:57 PM)
Hey college hoop fans, Doug Gottlieb will be on a little later. He'll take some questions if you've got 'em.
dennis (washington d.c)
shaun alexander is overratedhe got all those yards and touchdowns during the regular season...look at the teams in the division..anybody can score 4 touchdowns against rams, cardinals, and 49ers
THE PULSE (3:20 PM)
You're on, Dennis. ... Don't know if i agree with you, though.
Cloud (Washington State)
Shaun's going to prove all his critics wrong this sunday by having the game of his career. Then he should shove the game ball into skip's mouth. There is nothing but unwarrented trash coming out of it.
THE PULSE (3:21 PM)
You're on TV, Cloud!
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
Duke is going to lose!
Carl (Meriden)
Whether or not Duke wins today is not the issue. The Huskies own the Dookies and they will be cutting down the nets in Indianapolis. Marcus Williams is back and he makes Boone better. Not to mention Rudy Gay, Rashad Anderson and Hilton Armstrong.
Sean (Irvine, CA)
With 30 seconds left in the Duke, it looks like no one's going to be undefeated soon. And I'm fine with that. Teams like Duke need to be taken down a few pegs occasionally to keep it all in perspective.
Nelle (Hartford,CT)
What's the score between Duke/Georgetown,please?
THE PULSE (3:45 PM)
85-82 G'Town
Alex (Brooklyn)
C'mon Duke c'mon
Bob (Kinston, NC)
86-84 GT with 7.4 second left
THE PULSE (3:47 PM)
Redick has 41 points
THE PULSE (3:48 PM)
Maybe that's why Duke is losing ... nobody else can score.
Kyle Hoegh (Minneapolis, MN)
I am geting sick of how much the announcers love JJ Redick
THE PULSE (3:48 PM)
Game over!!! Georgetown tops Duke! Two unbeatens fall today!!!
Sean (Irvine, CA)
Oh wow. It's over.
Tony (MI)
CHOKE
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
Paulus was horrible in this game it was bad decision after bad decision.
Bob (Kinston, NC)
Redick had 41 but took some terrible shots at the end of the game... GT did a great job defending him.
Garrett (Springfield)
JJ redick is a great player and should be the #1 pick overall
Michael (VA)
Why is the ball in the hands of a freshman at the end of the game?
Garrett (Springfield, MO)
sheldon brown is the reason why duke is not undefeated!!!!
Alex (Brooklyn)
Redick had the shot!!!!!!!!!!!
BMW (Omaha, NE)
Duke is not overrated
Brandon (Idaho)
2 undefeated teams down, will the last one fall today?
THE PULSE (3:52 PM)
Florida better cross their fingers.
Jon (Malvern)
Florida wins....worst #1 ranked team ever. They have played NO ONE!
Sonia (Gainesville)
I just cried a little. If Florida wins and is Number 1 it is officially the apocalypse.
Sonia (Gainesville)
I even go to UF and I am fully aware that the Gators don't deserve to be up there.
THE PULSE (3:54 PM)
Thanks for the honestly, Sonia.
THE PULSE (3:54 PM)
Alright, folks. We're winding down over here. I'm about to flip the switch. Join us right here tomorrow for NFL HQ -- a chat alongside the AFC/NFC Championship games.
THE PULSE (3:55 PM)
Great stuff in here. Lots of upsets on the hardcourt!
Ben (North Dakota)
How about the Bison from North Dakota State University knocking off #15 Wisconsin? :)
Adam ((Queens, NY))
That was such a great win by Geogetown. All I can say is florida looses UCONN is #1 with a win tonight
Jon (Malvern)
Duke was never going to go undefeated. They have a freshman point who's going to make some mistakes. It will make him better in March, so don't cry too much Duke fans. You guys will be fine....but still won't win it all.
THE PULSE (3:56 PM)
Hoops are heating up. Catch your breath before the big gridiron games tomorrow. We'll see you from The Pulse next Saturday -- same time, same place! Come back and chat with us tomorrow. We're here all week -- there's ALWAYS something to chat about!
THE PULSE (3:56 PM)
