Buzzmaster (11:52 AM)
The two best days of the sporting year are upon us and The Show has it all covered. We're in the ESPN Tourney room watching the action with the experts and we'll bring you all the analysis you could want, plus a little fun, to get you through the first round of the NCAA Tournament. We'll tip off at noon in preparation for the first set of games!
Buzzmaster (12:03 PM)
All right, it's time to get things going!
Jesse (Naples, FL)
I love the NCAA tournament! It's better than Christmas, Summer, and Spring break combined. My eyes will be happily stuck to the t.v. for the next 2 weeks.
Buzzmaster (12:04 PM)
That about sum it up, Jesse!
Jeff, DC
PROBLEM: Without question, these next few days are the most exciting in all of sports. Herein lies the issue. My gf is flying into town this weekend. Unbeknownst to me, she booked the flight months ago, and now I'm left juggling her and the tourney. How do I handle such a situation? I feel I'll have withdrawals if I don't follow my annual tradition of binging on cbb on the third Thursday and Friday in March.
Buzzmaster (12:05 PM)
That's tough, Jeff. How much advance notice did she give? How far away does she live? How often do you see her? A lot to consider here...
Jeff (Cleveland)
To Jeff in DC - good luck with all that, dude...
Jim (Pittsburgh)
What is more romatic than watching march madnees?
Kevin (Villanova)
Jeff, there are many girlfriends out there, but there is only one March Madness...if she really cares for you she'll understand
Jon (Malvern)
Jeff, if it's meant to be she'll understand and would want to watch the games with you.
Dan (Philly)
The real question is do I watch the games with Online On Demand were I can be more discreet in my cubicle, or sneak off to office conference room where I can watch the games on our 65 inch plasma?
Buzzmaster (12:08 PM)
Today is full of choices...
Jessica (Texas)
Jeff-Grab a beer, buy her some wine coolers, order pizza or chinese and snuggle up on the couch and enjoy!
Buzzmaster (12:08 PM)
Now there's a plan...
Preston (Shreveport)
I need excuses to get out of the office...and I need them fast...Help me out guys.
John (Buffalo)
I think you are pretty screwed at this point if you have not already escaped....
Ben (Oakland)
Do you think it is in appropriate to ask my boss to leave his office so I can watch the games on his tv?
Buzzmaster (12:10 PM)
Maybe not appropriate, but Bill Raftery would admire those ''Onions!''...
Jon (Malvern)
Does Jessica need someone to watch the games with?
Buzzmaster (12:11 PM)
Okay, just a few minutes to the start of the actual games so let's talk some hoops...
Jim-Tennessee
UAB looks to me to be the team that has a great potential to pull a couple of upsets starting with a not very good Kentucky Team, do you agree?
Buzzmaster (12:12 PM)
Yes...
Mike Rockford
What website will post continuous scores?
Buzzmaster (12:14 PM)
For Mike and all the other folks asking this kind of question, go ahead and keep it right here with the Worldwide Leader: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/scoreboard
Andy (The QC)
Exactly how overrated is Oklahoma with a 6-seed?
Woody (Houston TX)
I think Oklahoma isn't that overseeded. Bookman is a beast, and they DID beat Texas pretty soundly, to my demise...
Curtis (Indy)
Just as overrated as they were all season long
Kyle (Boston)
I am really tired of hearing everyone talk about Winthrop beating Tennesee, it ain't happening. The only "real" upset that seems somewhat obvious is the Wisc-Mil-Oklahoma game, what do you think?
Buzzmaster (12:16 PM)
I guess we know what Kyle thinks of OU...
Jim (Pittsburgh)
What does everyone think of Pitt's chances. I have heard everything from losing to Kent State to the final four.
Buzzmaster (12:18 PM)
Can't you say that about most of the teams in the field? Could be one-and-done, could make the Final Four...That said, pencil the Panthers in for the Sweet 16...And tell 'em Buzz sent ya...
Woody (Houston TX)
Pittsburgh lacks the individual talent to get a good seed, and they just aren't escaping UCLA, Kansas and Gonzaga.
Preston (Shreveport)
AandM over Cuse, is gonna happen.
Buzzmaster (12:19 PM)
Certainly the trendy 12-5 upset pick...Wouldn't be surprising if that Big East run took the wind out of 'Cuse's sails...
Andy (The QC)
How do you pick the UNC-Mich St. 2nd round matchup? Both teams are unpredictable and either team will beat Tenn. It's a true bracketbuster!
Buzzmaster (12:21 PM)
Gotta like Tom Izzo's recent tourney history, but MSU stumbled down the stretch...Gotta like Hansbrough, but UNC seems a little up and down...Buzz takes MSU in a pick 'em...
Nate (Madison)
UCLA is a team that is just going to fall on their face and disappoint. Everyone is jumping on their wagon after the PAC-10 tourny was on TV, but all in all I'm not that impressed with them. At least not enough to see them crusing through their bracket.
Buzzmaster (12:22 PM)
And we're off and running! Wichita State and Seton Hall have started The Madness!
Mark (Baton Rouge)
Okay, I need your opinion. I have a lot of upsets happpening...I have LSU, Pitt, Boston College, and North Carolina in the final four. A lot of people are telling me that that will never happen but to me, if you look at it good, it really could happen...If LSU can pull it off against Duke and Texas(which i think they could) they'll be in, and I think Pitt is underestimated a lot and can go through and cause a few upsets. I think North Carolina will step it up against UConn like they did against Duke and I think Boston College can beat Nova...are these picks good or stupid? Do you think it could happen?
Buzzmaster (12:23 PM)
Well, they always say you can't pick the chalk if you want to win your office pool, so you might be in good shape, Mark...
Joel (South Bend)
Can Wichita State upset Tennessee?
Buzzmaster (12:25 PM)
Well, since there is still about 37 minutes remaining against Seton Hall we better not get ahead of ourselves...
Dan-Carol Stream
What do you think Of and Illinois upset of U-Conn?
Buzzmaster (12:26 PM)
Could very well happen...Dee Brown is a studd...
Christine (Fresno, CA)
With so many experts saying Tenn. seeding was overrated and picking them to fall out early, can that provide them with enough motivation for a deep run?
Jim (Pittsburgh)
My rec league would have a chance against tennessee...unless my team drowned in their coaches sweat.
Brett Jacksonville
Being a FSU fan,I wanted to boycott it after we did not get in, but I cannot control the urge to watch every game.
Buzzmaster (12:29 PM)
UWM up early on OU...Very early, though...
keckers (london England)
Spartans of MSU to surprise or maybe not and reach the final four. Izzo wins the heisman!!!!!
Buzzmaster (12:30 PM)
Helloooooo, London...First overseas post of the day is always nice...
JR(McSherrystown,PA)
the shockers...wow...tearing seton hall up
Buzzmaster (12:31 PM)
Mid-majors looking good so far, eh?
Andrew (Philly)
MVC showing early they are there for a reason
Zach (Duke)
I changed my original pick of Wisc-Milwaukee too Oklahoma at the last second... I didn't want to have an upset as the first game...
Buzzmaster (12:34 PM)
Overanalysis will get you every time, Zach...
Woody (Houston TX)
Bookout is no doubt going to be the difference this game, already 4 pints 2 rebounds, can easily get at lest a double-double
JP (NYC)
Zach you made the right choice..its tied and OU will not look back now.
Chris (Brandon, MS)
Tell me how good is GW? Schedule is weak but 26-2 has to be a plus
Buzzmaster (12:38 PM)
Indeed...How does a two-loss team get a No. 8 seed...That's darn good in any league...
Andy (The QC)
Wichita State just missed about four layups on one pssession and got every offensive rebound...this is a scrappy team
Ben Trueman (The Heights, MI)
I'm about to have lunch man. What should I have?
Buzzmaster (12:40 PM)
Good time to ask this question...It's pizza from the ESPN cafeteria here in the tourney room...Here's guessing a lot of wings, pizza and other 'bar food' is being destroyed right now...
Mike (PA)
I'm eat'n Campbells Roadhouse Chilli...not bad for chilli out of a can.
Buzzmaster (12:42 PM)
And BC-Pacific is underway...Three games, three TVs, getting paid to watch...Life is good...
Greg (Las Vegas)
Buzz, how can I become your sidekick or intern during the NCAA tourney?
Buzzmaster (12:45 PM)
Hmmm...Buzz could always use a helping hand...And you may not know it, but Buzz succeeded Darren as the intern at Kramerica...
Buzzmaster (12:45 PM)
Seton Hall is getting Shocked...20-8 in favor of Wichita State...
Buzzmaster (12:47 PM)
BC up eight early, this could get ugly for Pacific if they don't get a hoop soon...
Hoppy (Luck, WI)
C'mon BC, had an inkling to take them to win it, but i backed off, should have been way higher than a 4 though
andrew (simpsonville)
Pacific finally scored
Tim (Boston)
BC probably should have had the 2 over Tennesse
Jon (Washington, DC)
Buzzy, I'm supposed to be working right now but watching the scores of these games...if early indicators are correct, this could prove to be a huge year for the mid-majors.
Kaleb (Austin,Texas)
How do you feel about florida going to the final Four?
Buzzmaster (12:51 PM)
Not good...
david ( chicago)
any i the only one that really likes northern iowa over georgetown??
JP (NYC)
Yes you are Davis. GO HOYAS!
COOP
I have them in the the elite 8 in one poll and the final 4 in another. If the shoot the ball well, they can beat anybody out there. Battle-tested in the Big-East!!
Buzzmaster (12:53 PM)
And they beat Duke, too...
Todd (Birmingham, AL)
Wisc. Milwaukee stringing out the lead.
Seth (East Lansing, MI)
As the guy that dresses up as Sparty for Every home State game, what do I have to do to get a post around here. State in the Final 4?
Buzzmaster (12:55 PM)
Do those costumes smell as bad on the inside as everyone says?
A. Jayhawk (Lawrence)
Pacific is coming back!
Buzzmaster (12:56 PM)
Within three at the moment...
Woody (Houston TX)
Mischigan State and Paul Davis are almost definite Elite Eight, but Final Four over their region is a longshot.
Jon (Malvern)
Seth, do you take any performance enhancing drugs? Sparty is pretty big.
MIKE B , INDIANAPOLIS ,INDIANA
EVERYBOY COUNTING MEMPHIS OUT EARLY BUT THEY THE ONLY NUMBER ONE SEED THATS OVERLOOKED WHY IS THAT?
Buzzmaster (12:59 PM)
Good question...Maybe the fact that C-USA isn't a powerhouse league?
Justin (Jupiter)
Wow, I'm suddenly very glad I have UWM beating OK on at least one bracket and OK not getting past the second round on every other one
Brandon, KC, MO
here's an interesting point - when you have ump-teen brackets filled out, at what point can you "claim" to have picked the upset? my roommate and i were discussing earlier, and i think it's only if that bracket is your best. thoughts?
seneca falls New York
what are the scores for all the games right now
Buzzmaster (1:05 PM)
Since we keep getting this question we'll address it again: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/scoreboard
Mike NJ
40-20 Wichita State. Way to show up Big Least
Jon (Malvern)
Seton Hall.....thanks for coming.
dave (saranac lake )
Michigan woulda liked that spot seton hall
Alex (Iowa)
Cincy would have done much better then Seton Hall, who cares if the Big East got 8, they have 4 mediocre teams
Buzzmaster (1:08 PM)
Okay, Buzz is going to turn it over to Steve Lavin for a few minutes...Fire away with those questions!
Chris (Cardiff, CA)
What about the Aztecs? WIll Fisher take this team to the Sweat 16. Vitories over Indiana and the Zags in round 2 would do wonders for recruiting.
Steve Lavin (1:13 PM)
The Aztecs have a tough first round draw in the red-hot Indiana Hoosiers. But Brandon Heath is a dangerous and explosive offensive player. The key for the Aztecs will be defending the Hoosiers' 3-point line and giving early help defensively on Marco Killingsworth down low. After Killingsworth the Hoosiers are very thin on the front line. The Aztecs need to take advantage of the Hoosiers by getting ''points in the paint'' (as Digger Phelps like to say).
Jon( UCLA, class of 1995)
Is Ryan Hollins staying out of foul trouble the key to UCLa making the 8 or the 4, versus losing in the 32?
Steve Lavin (1:18 PM)
With Lorenzo Matta, Alfred Aboya, Luke Richard Mbah a Moute and Hollins the Bruins have one of the most underrated front lines in the tournament. What UCLA lacks in front line brawn they make up for in length and quicknes. In addition, UCLA has five quality perimeter players in Farmar, Afflalo, Roll, Bozeman and ''sparkplug'' Collison. A month ago after broadcasting the UCLA-Washington game in Seattle, I was concerned about UCLA's lack of offensive production. But since that game the Bruins have picked up the pace at the offensive end because of Coach Howland's decision to play Collison along with Farmar, Afflalo and Bozeman more often. The multiple playmakers make UCLA more difficult to match up with and has led to an increased scoring average as a team in recent week. UCLA to the Final Four.
John (Buffalo)
Steve....I think it is official that the selection committee made their first selection error taking Seton Hall over Cincy.....
Steve Lavin (1:20 PM)
When evaluating the selection committees body of work it can be mislealding to draw conclusions based on the outcome of one half of basketball in the first round of the tournament. But after the first weekend of play we will be better able to take the longview and evaluate the body of work the committee has put in place.
Mike NJ
Steve, is Southern Illinios's defense (only 48ppg) enough to stifle WVU offense?
Steve Lavin (1:22 PM)
The Salukis are dangerous because they have a group of players and coaches who have recent NCAA experience. SIU will not just be happy to be in the tournament but instead expect to have success this weekend. But at the end of the day I believe WVU's run to the Elite Eight last year will serve them well in this year's tournament. The Mountaineers have too much size, depth, skill and experience to be knocked off in the first round.
Dieter (Gig Harbor, WA)
Pacific and BC are tied at 28 in the first half. Does this score surprise you at all?
Steve Lavin (1:24 PM)
In the NCAA Tournament Bob Thomason's Pacific team knocked off Providence in 2004 and Pittsburgh in 2005. No surprise but I expect BC to pull it out in the end.
Logan (Scottsdale, AZ)
Is Arizona sleeper pick?
Steve Lavin (1:27 PM)
Lute Olson and his Wildcats are potentially a dangerous lower-seeded team flying below the radar. Olson is a Hall of Fame coach with a feel for tournament conditions. My concern with the Wildcats has been the unsteadiness with all the off-court distractions and controversy. But sometimes the tournament gives new life to teams that have struggled all year and subsequently a team like Arizona can band together and go on a run.
Jay (Iowa)
Steve, I've heard you are somewhat of a Hawkeye fan. Do you think Iowa can get past WV and Texas into the round of 8?
Steve Lavin (1:33 PM)
Iowa has the obvious star power in Horner, Haluska and Brunner. But I am equally impressed with the development over the course of the season of Freeman, Henderson, Hansen, Thomas and Thompson. The reason Iowa has continued to have a special season is primarily because of the contributions of the aforementioned complimentary players. An Elite Eight or Final Four is within reach but the Hawkeyes will have to continue to play with the tenacity they demonstrated during the Big Ten tournament.
Franco (Hoboken)
Mr. Lavin, why did you feel Villanova was not a #1 seed? You said in your analysis that they lost in the 1st round of the Big East Tourney when they actually made it further then UCONN... Can you explain to Nova Nation why the disrespect??
Steve Lavin (1:39 PM)
I have nothing but love for Jay Wright and his dynamic and explosive Wildcat team. My analysis Sunday morning was based on projecting Texas as a winner over Kansas in the Big 12 championship game. If Texas had won that game I believe they deserved the No. 1 seed. The Longhorns had beaten Villanova, Memphis, Iowa and West Virginia head-to-head. Additionally, they had injuries to Buckman and Gibson during their two losses early in the year to Duke and Tennessee. The committee factors in injuries to their selection process. Because Texas lost I believe Villanova deserved the No. 1 seed. 'Nova reminds me of the Arizona championship team of 1997 that featured Bibby, Simon, Terry and Dickerson on the perimeter. Also, this year's Villanova team is similar to last year's Illinois team that featured Brown, Head, Williams and Powell. So at the end of the day Lav is a major Wildcat fan. I am concerned, though, about the eye injury to Alan Ray. After the first round game we'll be able to tell whether or not he is playing with the same level of confidence he had prior to the injury. Vison in basketball is so critical at both ends of the floor. Other than that concern, the Wildcats have as good a chance as any to cut down the nets.
Jeff (akron-cleveland)
Ohio State buckeyes. What's your take on their chances. If they catch fire from behind the arc I think they can beat anyone
Steve Lavin (1:44 PM)
Thad Matta and the Buckeyes have had a remarkable season. The future is bright for hoop fans in Columbus. My major concern is their lack of front line size and depth. Having fresh bodies to rotate and fouls to use on the front line is critical to going deep into the NCAA Tournament. If Dials gets into foul trouble, wears down or has an injury the Buckeyes are very vulnerable against teams that have a plethora of post players.
Todd (Boston)
Steve, what do you think of the job Ben Howland is doing at UCLA? I think he's a great coach, but is there any bad blood/jealousy toward your successor?
Steve Lavin (1:48 PM)
All year I have been singing the praises of Ben Howland for the outstanding work he has done with the UCLA program. I spent 12 years on staff at UCLA, five as an assistant and seven as the head coach. We were fortunate to compete in 11 NCAA Tournaments during that stretch and I have nothing but love for the university and it's basketball program. with Ben Howland as coach and a supportive administrative infrastructure the Bruins should be in position to compete for the national championship on an annual basis.
Majeed (SD)
Steve Hartman on 570 sports radio in LA says you want UCLA to do bad since they let you go. What do you have to say to that?
Steve Lavin (1:53 PM)
I've been a guest on the air with Steve Hartman and the 570 gang every year during March Madness for the past 10 years as both a coach and now a broadcaster. As you know, we're in the entertainment business and talk radio is very competitive. In an effort to increase ratings, Steve is smart enough to stir things up by suggesting and speculating about things that are not accurate. I'm probably the only member of the national media that picked UCLA to win the Pac-10 championship (see: Coach Lav, DirecTV College Basketball Preview). If you've noticed, there are a lot of Johnny-Come-Latelys jumping on the bandwagon the past couple of weeks. I was there from the beginning. Mad props for the Bruins.
Steve Lavin (1:57 PM)
I anticipate more early-round upsets in this tournament than in previous years because of the number of experienced mid-major teams. Penn, Utah State, Southern Illinois, Winthrop, Pacific, Nevada, Montana, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Bucknell. All were in the NCAA Tournament field last year. These are teams that will not suffer from stage fright. No deer-in-the-headlights looks for these veteran mid-major programs. Thanks for the questions and enjoy the Madness.
Buzzmaster (1:58 PM)
Thanks to Coach Lav for the nice segue...Mid-major guru Kyle Whelliston will be here in just a few minutes so keep the questions coming and Buzz will fill the void until Kyle gets here...
Blake (Champaign, IL)
Does anyone know any new information about the San Diego Arena being evacuated and how that will affect the games today?
Buzzmaster (2:00 PM)
A lot of folks are asking, and Jay Bilas tells us a bomb-sniffing dog found something suspicious near a hot-dog cart outside the areana. Better safe than sorry, and there is no word yet on how tip times or anything else will be affected.
Alex (Iowa)
I guess the MVC really isnt that bad after all? I have Wichita St in the Sweet 16, UNI losing in 2nd Rd, and S Illinois in Sweet 16 also!
Jon (Malvern)
So much for those midmajors not being able to hang with the middle of the pack of major conferences.
Pete (UNC)
Alex in Iowa, you might have been smoking some of your own Corn.
Sean (PGH (via c-town))
Somebody give alex a chill pill...its the first round, not the elite eight
Patrick (St Paul)
I hate work. I have to live vicariously through SN...thank god its around!
Buzzmaster (2:07 PM)
We do what we can, Patrick...
Preston (Richmond)
I'm looking at Seton Hall thinking down by 13 means they can still come back, then looking at Wis-Mil thinking up by 12 means its long over. Gotta love bracket bias while watching games.
JP (NYC)
Buzz please ban the use of "mad props" by old white guys. The phrase went out at the turn of the century. Sorry Steve.
Buzzmaster (2:11 PM)
He pulled it off in person...Something was obviously lost between here and there..
Buzzmaster (2:12 PM)
And in case anyone was wondering, Kyle Whelliston has been delayed because of computer issues...Looks like you're stuck with Buzz for a while longer...
Marc (Atlanta)
first upset about to go down today, UWM on a tear
Buzzmaster (2:13 PM)
Up 14 with about 7:00 to go...Sure looks bleak for the Sooners...
Sean (PGH (via c-town))
Oklahoma, thanks for coming, don't let the door hit you on the way out
Eric (Greensboro,NC)
So are you sitting in the TV room with your lapper and a bag of doritos?
Buzzmaster (2:18 PM)
Yep, except the TV room here has every game on a big screen..
TJ (Kansas)
Why is Wichita State beating Seton Hall considered an upset? They are the 7 seed after all.
Buzzmaster (2:21 PM)
Buzz doesn't call that an upset, either, TJ...Just the MVC showing it can play with the big leagues...
Kevin (Jamaica)
Conference bias, I guess.
Devon (Louisville, KY)
How's this for a final for...Illinois, Iona, Indiana and N. Iowa
Buzzmaster (2:22 PM)
Pick those teams out of a had, did ya?
Buzzmaster (2:23 PM)
Pacific not going away...Down just five with 6:00 to go...
Jake (Illinois)
Oklahoma making it interesting. They are only down 7!
Shawn (Las Vegas)
What's up with the Bomb Scare? Any new info?
Buzzmaster (2:25 PM)
Teams are at their hotels awaiting word...Delayed by a couple of hours apparently...
Tim (ATL)
OU is starting to play pretty well here - look out...
Buzzmaster (2:26 PM)
Down only six now...And Pacific still within five with five to go...
Buzzmaster (2:27 PM)
Pacific now within two!!
Matthias (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Go Pacific. Love to see the little guys win!!! Who cares about my bracket.
Nick (West Grove, PA)
cmon pacific!
Jordan (New Jersey)
It's all BC, c'mon, be real.
J (Detroit)
Pacific is a real good team should have been seeded higher.
Mike (D)
it's this BC-Pacific ending that makes it just oh so horrible to NOT be in front of a TV right now!
Jeff (Cleveland)
ESPN Radio saying it's all clear in San Diego...
Buzzmaster (2:32 PM)
Good news...Thanks, Jeff...
Jon (Malvern)
How much better could BC be playing right now? Shooting over 50%, 5 turnovers...and they are still only up by 2.
Buzzmaster (2:32 PM)
They're doing pretty much everything they need to...Pacific playing just as well, though...
steve (philly)
Jeff from Cleveland, do you have a job? I keep seeing you post on pretty much every chat!
Buzzmaster (2:33 PM)
But doesn't that mean you're in the chat, too, Steve? Just saying...
Buzzmaster (2:34 PM)
UWM stretches the lead back to nine with 1:30 to go...
J (Detroit)
Christian Maraker is a very underrated player.Putting up 24 against a solid BC frontline.
Buzzmaster (2:37 PM)
But a BC dunk makes it 61-57 Eagles with 2:06 to go...
J (Detroit)
Craig Smith should get more credit for what he means to this BC team.
Dicky V (SofaVille US.)
This Is great Holy Cow! You dream about this kind of excitement.I'm gonna lose my mind. NCAA tourney time baby..
Buzzmaster (2:40 PM)
Pacific's Maraker fouled on a 3-pointer with his team down four...Makes all three, it's a one-point game with 40 seconds to go
Dieter (Gig Harbor, WA)
Pacific down by only one!!!!!!
Buzzmaster (2:42 PM)
Back to a three-poin bulge for BC...
Buzzmaster (2:42 PM)
MAke it one after a layup...20 seconds to go and BC on the line and up one...
Buzzmaster (2:43 PM)
Maraker with the 3!!!!! Pacific ties it up with under 10 seconds to go!!!
Jack (Wisconsin)
This is why we watch!
A-Man (CA)
MARAKER!!!
Buzzmaster (2:45 PM)
BC with the ball and 9.1 seconds to get the game-winner...
Greg(Boston)
BC is my champion, I really hope they make it out of the first round
Todd (Birmingham, AL)
all of my brackets are about to get blown to bits
Buzzmaster (2:46 PM)
Traveling on BC...Pacific witha chance to win it!!
Ed (Raleigh)
I'm an ACC guy, but I'm feeling Pacific now!
Buzzmaster (2:47 PM)
Man, Pacific loses the ball and we go to overtime...Nothing like starting the day with some excitment...
Buzzmaster (2:48 PM)
Wait, they're puttin 0.2 seconds back on the clock because BC called timeout...
Buzzmaster (2:48 PM)
And we're still headed to OT...
Alex (Notre Dame, IN)
Hey, when's that guy supposed to get here?
Buzzmaster (2:50 PM)
Methinks you mean Kyle Whelliston...He's still having some computer issues but he'll get here ASAP...
Jeff (Cleveland)
Will you be Buzz O'Master tomorrow, or McBuzz?
Buzzmaster (2:52 PM)
Can we go with Buzz McMaster?
Buzzmaster (2:54 PM)
Pacific with a pull-up jumper on the break and the lead to start OT...And right on cue, Kyle Whelliston is here to talk about the early games...
Kyle Whelliston (2:55 PM)
Hey guys... K-Dub backstage at the Dayton pod... we've got open practices on the floor, interviews in the press room and games on the TV. Wish that each and every one of you could be here... even if it would be totally crowded and stuff.
Kyle Whelliston (2:56 PM)
And we also have wireless issues... the NCAA is worried about us posting photos, so I may be booted off unexpectedly... but let's talk about this great afternoon so far for the mids!
Brian (Pittsburgh)
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW
Kyle Whelliston (2:56 PM)
I agree. Pacific up by 6!!!
Thom ((Baltimore))
What's up with the Alabama/Marquette game in the Oakland Region? The ESPN Score Board says "Delayed" on it.
Kyle Whelliston (2:57 PM)
The arena in San Diego was evacuated because of a "suspicious package."
chauncey (teaneck)
what do you think of Pacific having the oppurturnity to beat BC?
Kyle Whelliston (2:58 PM)
I am ecstatic. If we mids can make it 3-for-3, that would really send a message.
Collin (Framingham, MA)
Kyle, why can't every month be March?
Kyle Whelliston (2:59 PM)
Because we'd all have heart attacks every day!
Alex (The Dominican Republic)
Let's climb on the Pacific Bandwagon and let's ride it to the sweet 16
Kyle Whelliston (2:59 PM)
Hey, don't forget that this team beat Providence in 04 and Pitt in 05... this Big West team knows how to beat Big East teams (current and former)!
Neal (Philly)
Kyle, does Winthrop have a chance to beat Tennessee?
Kyle Whelliston (3:01 PM)
Yes! UT is dog-tired. They've lost 4 of 6, and don't rebound that well. Winthrop has weapons at 6-5, 6-6 and 6-10. They have a real chance.
Daniel (Carbondale)
Kyle, what do you think the odds are of SIU beating WVU tomorrow?
Kyle Whelliston (3:02 PM)
Very good! They need to stop Pittsnogle, but they have the defense to do it. I laid out the whole scenario how they can pull it off in my "Rally the Valley" column earlier this week.
Kyle Whelliston (3:02 PM)
OK... let's watch this together.
Kyle Whelliston (3:02 PM)
UOP 74, BC 72... BC with the ball... 12.2 seconds left.
Armando (Texas)
There has already been an upset, UW-Millwaukee over Oklahoma? Is this a sign of more upsets to come.
Kyle Whelliston (3:03 PM)
Yes! The bottom of the bracket is loaded with very good, tested teams this year. Let me just say that I'm very proud of UWM. They really were able to handle OU's two big guys with their one big guy, and shot really well.
David ((Murray))
Along the same lines, does Murray State have a chance against UNC tomorrow?
Kyle Whelliston (3:05 PM)
Yes, but it's going to take everything they have. UNC is a young team that turns the ball over a lot, so they'll have their chances.
Kyle Whelliston (3:05 PM)
Brick it, Craig!
Scott (Iowa)
Possible Double-OT here, free-throws pending
Kyle Whelliston (3:05 PM)
Double OT!
Steve (Connecticut)
TIE GAME, DOUBLE OT BABY!!!!!
matt ((michigan mit))
i'm picking the big east to be about .500 again. eastern commentators have a huge big east bias. i like rpi's personally.
Kyle Whelliston (3:07 PM)
This particular eastern commentator has a Big West bias... :)
Zach C. Warminster,PA
What do you think is a better upset: UNC-Wilmington over GW or Murray St. ove North Carolina?
Kyle Whelliston (3:08 PM)
Murray would be bigger, but UNCW is definitely more attainable.
Tyer (Minnesota)
wow this BC game is amazing, i am have the best time watching this..what a game
Kyle Whelliston (3:08 PM)
And these are just the early games,,, we've got a day and a half to go!
Jeremy (Morgantown)
They ARE NOT switching my coverage right now!!!! OMG NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Kyle Whelliston (3:09 PM)
My heart goes out to you, Jeremy.
Eric (Baltimore, MD)
The tide is turning for Pacific. Boston College is starting to wake up. Can we get your prediction for the rest of the game, Kyle?
Kyle Whelliston (3:10 PM)
This is starting to look dangerous. They just need to hang tough, run their screens and get those open bombs, like they have all year.
Ken (KS)
How about those WSU Shockers?
Kyle Whelliston (3:11 PM)
Man, they took care of business! I hope this will end some of the talk about the Valley being weak.
Tom (Columbus, OH)
Nasty, lookking bad for Pacific now
Kyle Whelliston (3:12 PM)
I agree.
Eric (Wichita)
Kyle - Does Wichita State stand a chance agains Tenn? Assuming that they can get past Winthrop of course... :D
Kyle Whelliston (3:13 PM)
The way they looked today, they appeared fresh and ready to roll. They'll either get a UT team that's tired right now anyway, or a Winthrop team that expended a lot of energy pulling the upset. I like their chances. Then again, I have them going to the Elite Eight.
William (Las Vegas )
Whos winning BC or Pacific?...Im in school!!!
Kyle Whelliston (3:13 PM)
BC, William... by a lot (82-74).
David (Dallas)
Tennessee is all over Winthrop early...do you think they can play that tempo for the whole tourny?
Kyle Whelliston (3:14 PM)
Only 6-4, David! :)
Brian (Pittsburgh)
WSU or Tenn going to the Elite 8?
Kyle Whelliston (3:14 PM)
Oh sorry... WSU.
Tom (Columbus, OH)
pacific looks like they are running out of gas
Kyle Whelliston (3:15 PM)
That double-clutch at the end of OT1 will haunt them, but they've had a great season. If you'd have told me they'd be here after they were beaten by last-place UC Riverside in January, I wouldn't have believed you.
Ben (Philly)
Pacific put up a good effort... not a good sign for BC in the rest of the tournament
Kyle Whelliston (3:16 PM)
Nevada fans probably licking their lips right now.
Andy (Ocala)
Does Billy Packer look like a fool now or what? Go Missouri Valley!
Kyle Whelliston (3:17 PM)
We've got a few more MVC wins to go, Andy!
Kyle Whelliston (3:17 PM)
It's over... BC by 12.
Jason Thomas (Portland, ME)
What do you think of Northern Iowa's chanced to really fufill the potential they have in this tournament?
Kyle Whelliston (3:19 PM)
They just had a really good, hard practice out on the floor. They've been here the last few years, and GU hasn't for a while. UNI is really carrying themselves very confidently today.
Seann (Norfolk, VA)
Are South Alabama or Florida EVER going to score?
Kyle Whelliston (3:20 PM)
Yeah, this is weird. You have the #1 shooting team out on the floor there in Jax.
Andy (Ocala)
Do you think there's any truth that since the NCAA owns the NIT now, they held some big name teams out of the Dance to help boost revenue for the NIT?
Kyle Whelliston (3:22 PM)
First of all, it's a committee of AD's and conference officials that makes the selection for the Tournament. That's not a very credible theory.
Greg (Salt Lake)
The close game is a good sign for BC, many teams that make a run have a close game early on.
Kyle Whelliston (3:23 PM)
I love March logic... we fans can take any message out of any result!
Seann (Norfolk, VA)
Winthrop is looking fiesty... up 12-10 about 8 minutes in
Kyle Whelliston (3:24 PM)
They certainly do have a lot of energy.
Corey (Champaign)
Well, I was not very shocked about the UW-M win over Oklahoma. What is going to be the big upset of the day?
Kyle Whelliston (3:25 PM)
That was certainly a good one, but don't count out Winthrop. Hey, they just hit a 3!
Orlando (Baton Rouge,La)
I dont know about upset kyle, but Southern is going to give Duke more than it bargained for
Kyle Whelliston (3:26 PM)
I certainly hope so, Orlando. Southern actually has some quite efficient defense. But if they lose by less than 20, I'll be happy.
Taft (Chapel Hill)
I'm in a suicide pool (pride on the line only, of course) and grabbed NV today. I saw the ESPN sim had a pretty close game with Montana on tap. Can the, uh...Praries? Big Skies? Ranchers?...upset the Wolfpack?
Kyle Whelliston (3:28 PM)
Grizzlies! They've got a tough road to hoe, Nevada is a very big, very tough team that made the rest of the WAC look very bad this past month. Montana shoots well, but may not have an answer for Nick Fazekas, a/k/a "The Big Freak."
Josh (Pottstown)
The success of Mid Majors got me thinking, do you think theyll join big conferences? To get more publicity and recruits?
Kyle Whelliston (3:30 PM)
Some get better and do join bigger conferences... look at Utah State outgrowing the Big West and going to the WAC. That's the natural progression of things, Josh - once a program gets the resources to play with the big boys, they should move up (that means you, Gonzaga!).
Russ (Dyersville)
C'mon--Montana was my big upset pick, along with Arkansas over Memphis in the 2nd round. What're you thoughts on that pick?
Kyle Whelliston (3:31 PM)
If Memphis makes it that far, that's a good matchup for Arkansas. I've been one of those people planting seeds of doubt about their ability to top Oral Roberts. ORU has better offensive numbers and a bigger front line... plus, Memphis fouls so much that ORU will get a chance to shoot lots of FT's.
Matt (Englishtown, NJ)
Do you think that BC will have this much trouble as they did with Pacific next game?
Kyle Whelliston (3:33 PM)
BC slows the game down to cover their rebounding and defensive weaknesses... they're great shooters. You noticed that UOP had their most success when they were able to play at their tempo (and stop BC's break!). Just remember how big and dumb UWM made them look last year. Nevada could easily do the same thing.
Brian (Minneapolis, MN)
Do you consider CUSA, the A-10 and the WAC as mid major conferences or do you see them as tweener conferences.
Kyle Whelliston (3:35 PM)
I consider the C-USA and Mountain West to be made-for-TV conferences, and I don't cover them as the resident mid-major guy. The WAC has a long and proud history, but they got the short end after the MWC split. I like to call the MWC the "Airport Handshake Conference."
Vik (Fort Myers, Fl)
Should Gonzaga try to join the Pac-10? Have they already?
Kyle Whelliston (3:36 PM)
They don't play football, so they're not a good fit for either the Pac or WAC, and they've already been in the Big Sky. I've been lobbying for them to join the Big East.
Jeff (Cleveland)
whoa...Winthrop taking a nosedive.
Kyle Whelliston (3:36 PM)
They've just got to withstand this run...
Stephen (NY)
wow do I feel stupid now, I actually thought that Oklahoma could do some damage in the tourney but already their out in the first round.
Kyle Whelliston (3:37 PM)
Don't feel stupid, Stephen... you just underestimated UWM's heart. A lot of people did!
jon (va beach)
hey Kyle, I know we are talking NCAA's here, but show some love for ODU's beatdown of Colorado in the NIT. Mid majors are looking sharp so far!
Kyle Whelliston (3:38 PM)
Thanks for mentioning that, Jon. ODU did let out their frustration last night, and struck a nice blow for the CAA. While I wish they had played like that in spots during the year, this is a great memory. I hope they go further.
Steve (Stafford Springs, CT)
If Western Kentucky had beaten S. Alabama, do you think they would've had A) a higher seed in the tournament, or B) a better chance against UF than what USA is putting up right now?
Kyle Whelliston (3:40 PM)
They would have had a higher seed, so they would definitely have ducked UF. Selection Committee people have been saying (and Littlepage said to me the other night) that WKU was actually the last team out, despite that horrific beatdown that I had to watch last week in Murfreesboro.
jeff (baltimore)
I don't give a damn about the tournament. Cincinnati was one of the best stories of the seadon, overcoming everything they had to overcome, and Littlepage and his bozo friends (may they all rot) couldn't find room for them. Not going to follow at all.
Kyle Whelliston (3:40 PM)
Enjoy the WBC, Jeff!
Patrick (St Paul)
Zags in the Big EAST???
Kyle Whelliston (3:42 PM)
Big dreams, Patrick. They'd be tested a whole lot more over January and February, and would be less vulnerable to early upsets.
Todd (Birmingham, AL)
Kyle, how come no one harps on the weak WCC when talking about Gonzaga being underrated but slams Memphis for being overrated because of a weak CUSA?
Kyle Whelliston (3:45 PM)
Because Memphis is highly visible, Todd, and there are a whole lot of these awful C-USA games on TV so people can see just how bad the conference is. The WCC is just a bunch of small (mostly religious) schools on the west coast, and the C-USA is packed with high-budget state schools trapped in matchups nobody cares about. Harping on the WCC is not allowed.
donk (donkey)
anyyone want to get donkafied
Kyle Whelliston (3:47 PM)
I believe that South Alabama is being donkafied right now.
Kyle Whelliston (3:48 PM)
Okay, they're kicking us all off the wireless in 10 minutes... I'll take a few more.
Seann (Norfolk, VA)
What do you think of Mason's chances tomorrow, Kyle? As a big fan, I think a lod of media members don't realize that Tony Skinn, while terriffic, is only one of five player that average in double figures.
Kyle Whelliston (3:50 PM)
That's what I keep telling people. But this is a tough matchup for GMU... they're going to have to deal with all that size down low that MSU has. But both teams shoot well, and if Jai Lewis can block two guys at a time with his massive girth, they could possibly sneak by.
Steve (Logan,UT)
I personally think Utah State is a lot better than their seed. They were a layup from beating 5 seed Nevada on in Reno with Jaycee Carroll not shooting well. If they win tonight I don't count it to be too big of an upset. In fact, I won't be upset at all!! What say ye?
Kyle Whelliston (3:51 PM)
I agree, Steve... the only reason why USU was a borderline case is because Nevada made the rest of the league look so bad. UW should watch out, because the Aggies are going to find ways to score, no matter what.
Greg(Boston)
Why the insults on USA, they are down only 3 to a 3 seed as a 14, that's pretty impressive to me
Kyle Whelliston (3:52 PM)
Yeah, here they come... and I know they didn't get motivated by what I typed, because they're on the floor playing. C'mon Sun Belt!
Will (Omaha)
What about that BC/Pacific game?? Anyone here think BC looked a little down and could be in danger of losing to Nevead next round??
Kyle Whelliston (3:55 PM)
Should they get by Montana, Chris Martin - er, Nick Fazekas - and Co. will give them everything they want. Nevada has scorers in every size, and will make BC's D very uncomfortable. But UMT is up by 2 at the moment...
Kyle Whelliston (3:56 PM)
OK, guys and gals... the NCAA is shutting our free wireless down. Thanks for all the great questions, and I hope your brackets don't get too donkafied today!
Buzzmaster (4:02 PM)
Thanks to Kyle...And that may be the first time anyone has used the word 'donkafied' in a chat...Is that even a word?
Eddie (Hoboken, NJ)
These guys from Winthrop are for real!! They are takin it to Tennessee. Go WINTHROP!! I got em in my bracket!!
Tim (NH)
The one thing that I hate is waiting for the 3rd set of games to start. That down time for the news always kills me. Tough life...
Buzzmaster (4:06 PM)
Man, how will you survive...
Sean (Phoenix)
Eddie's crazy, but Tennessee is definately not a 2 seed.
Jon (Fort Smith AR)
I am really really really really really really really tired of "experts" trying to glorifiy themselves by predicting ORU to beat Memphis.
Buzzmaster (4:14 PM)
Won't happen...Memphis to the Elite Eight...
mike (columbus, oh)
Buzz, Bama or Marquette? I think Bama could pull the upset.
Buzzmaster (4:15 PM)
Looking good right now with the 3-pointers falling early...
Brian (Boston)
Montana's lookin good right now, Nevada better keep up or it could be lights out!
Buzzmaster (4:17 PM)
Still early but could very well happen...As Coach Lavin said earlier in the chat, Montana's been here before and isn't scared...
Nathan (Seattle)
Montana is looking tough early
hogie (Centralia, Washington)
the zags are going to prove to the world tonight that are not a fluke team
Buzzmaster (4:20 PM)
A lot of talk here in the ESPN tourney room that the Zags are overrated and weak guard play will be their undoing...
Jordan (Cleveland)
Gonzaga is OVERRATED. They struggled against a 12-18 team in their conference championship game. I have them losing against UCLA.
Nate (Portland)
The Zags can't compete with the ACC, the Big East, or any major conference!
Todd (Philadelphia)
The Zags only beat 1 NCAA Tourney team (Mich. State) definitely not the resume of a 3 seed.
Buzzmaster (4:23 PM)
And that was back in the Maui Invitational...Not many impressive wins to stand on since then...
Eric (Green Bay)
Ok... so any chance the Badgers actually beat Arizona? They've played close with good teams, and they've got beat by bad teams, and they've beat good teams too... totally inconsistent, but I think that the Big-10 defense oriented basketball often catches teams by surprise in the tourney... any takes?
Buzzmaster (4:30 PM)
Hassan Adams is back for Arizona but Wisconsin could make some trouble...They can play tight D and Tucker is a guy who could get hot...Here's guessing that now that B10 teams are done beating up on each other the other leagues are going to find out how tough the Big Ten is...
Sean (Phoenix)
Arizona is not good enough to beat Wisconsin. Gonzaga is not over rated, when you have the next Larry Bird, you can't be over rated.
Brady (Kansas)
Winthrop now leads!!!
Buzzmaster (4:32 PM)
How bad is the selection committe going to feel/look if Tennessee gets bounced?
Eric (Green Bay)
Awesome take. I definitely feel that the Big-10 is close (but definitely behind) the BigE for quality teams as I watch Big-10 BB, but I'm never sure how the rest of the country sees it. I picked Winthrop too. Cheers.
Byron (Ann Arbor)
Losing to Montana would definitely wear off some of Nick Fazekas' luster.
Jordan (Byron)
Montana by 7 at the half...Nevada better bring their A game in the 2nd half...
Larry (Nebraska)
I'm not watching the game. Howe badly is Bruce Pearl sweating?
Buzzmaster (4:38 PM)
Buckets, man...Buckets...
Rufus (Kenya)
I have Winthrop winning it all! I am awesome!
Buzzmaster (4:39 PM)
Are you really in Kenya? Impressive...
Jesse (San Diego)
I see this forum is going to ignore any post about Cal or Leon Powe (big surprise there...). Well, you won't be ignoring Cal when they lock up with Texas. Keep your eyes open for another 40+point night from Leon Powe!
Buzzmaster (4:41 PM)
Easy, Jesse...We've gotten about 6,000 posts today and it's hard to see them all, much less post them all...Buzz can only do so much...
Ben (Minnesota)
I like Leon Powe just as much as anybody, but 40 against Texas??
Dave (NH)
Doesn't Cal have to beat NC State first?
Tom (Illinois)
I have Cal losing in the first round
Luke (Beavercreek, OH)
Same here. N.C. state could surprise us again like last year..
woody (houston, tx)
Cal is toss-up for me, NC State is potent, but i think i favored cal over the course of my 5 brackets
Jack Tyler (California)
Cal thrives on the underdog situation. I think that when other people dismiss them, they do their best
Tom (Houston)
Come on guys... Lets be honest... West Cooast teams just can't match up
Garrett (Texas)
Texas AandM will shock and awe the "experts" by advancing to the Sweet 16 and maybe Elite 8
Chad (Saskatoon)
The jinx ends this year...........all 4 of the 5 seeds advance
James Johnson (Mich. St.)
I would agree this year the Pac-10 and in general the West Coast was dissapointing. I have The Valley winning more games than the Pac-10
Alex (Oslo, Norway)
I'm really excited. Winthrop winning against the 2 seed, Pacific making things interesting against BC, Wichita State thrashing Seton Hall, Montana owning Nevada and Fazekas...what an incredible way to start the tourney.
Buzzmaster (4:49 PM)
Hello, Norway...
Buzzmaster (4:53 PM)
Winthrop jacking up threes at a frantic pace, then a layup gives them the lead...
Sean (OH)
Pearl's sweating up a storm
Mike (Wisconsin)
Mighty Winthrop making Coach Pearl wish he never left UW-Milwaukee...
Buzzmaster (4:55 PM)
Especially since UWM knocked off Oklahoma today...
Rebecca (New York)
I'm ranked number one in the ncaa tournament bracket. what does that mean?
Buzzmaster (4:56 PM)
At 4:55 on Thursday it means absolutely nothing, Rebecca...Sorry...
Tim (delaware)
Can Memphis win it all or are they too slow?
Doug Gottlieb (4:58 PM)
Good call on Memphis and the lack of athletic ability. Guys like Carney, Dorsey and Washington really lack the athleticism to play at this level. Of course I'm kidding. Coach Lavin and I understand you're trying to be a contrarian. With that in mind, I'd say the biggest thing holding Duke back is JJ Reddick's lack of shooting range.
Dre (Atlanta)
Tenn will not make it past the 2nd round if they get past Winthrop
Buzzmaster (5:06 PM)
We're going to keep the chat going until the end of the Tennessee-Winthrop game ..
Don (Kansas)
The way Wichita State's been playing, I'd have to say that you're right.
Jordan (Cabo San Lucas)
Im on Spring Break in Cabo, is Tennessee losing?
Buzzmaster (5:07 PM)
Anybody's game with 3:30 left ...
Buzzmaster (5:08 PM)
Did anyone see Cold Pizza this morning? The All Acess thing with Tennessee where they showed up at the wrong gym for practice? If they lose this game, this will be the most non-surprising ''big upset'' ever ...
Joe (Minneapolis)
Winthrop just nailed a 3, they're up now.
eric (ny)
nevada makin a big comeback
Big Jay (Lawrence, KS)
No kidding, Buzz. Who's in charge of transportation down there?
Steve (Ithaca)
Buzz, if I leave now and get Little Thai House on the way home, can I catch the end of the Tennessee game?
Buzzmaster (5:10 PM)
Wouldn't risk it .. this has the look and feel of a crazy ending coming ..
Russ (Dyersville)
Who goes on Spring Break during this Thursday and Friday?? If I was on break now I'd be watching non-stop games (which I'm doing even during school).
Jeremy (Morgantown)
I tell you what. Some of these ticky tack fouls that are being called might really hurt the Big East and Big 10 teams. LET THEM PLAY!
Big Jay (Lawrence, KS)
Anyone else notice Pearl isn't wearing the orange suit?
Buzzmaster (5:13 PM)
Tie game! 1:30 left!
Jeremiah (Baton Rouge)
He only wears it against Bama, Vandy, and Kentucky
Buzzmaster (5:14 PM)
Under a minute to play!
Jeremy (Morgantown)
Marquette is really playing now. Only down 1!
chad (cincy)
Bama's offense still in the locker room?
Russ (Dyersville)
Buzz, you must be pretty excited about this game...are you a Vol at heart, or are you a Winthrop alum??
Buzzmaster (5:15 PM)
Neither .. but a 15-2 upset is nothing to sneeze at ... even when the 2 seed is a joke.
matt (southington, ct)
here we go....61 all
Buzzmaster (5:16 PM)
Ohhhh... poor shot selection there for Winthrop ..
Jason (Music City)
Why does Winthrop take 9 seconds to cross midcourt every possession?
Little Adam (Gonzaga)
Winthrop is the best #15 seed I have ever seen!
Buzzmaster (5:17 PM)
Yeah... Wichita State is probably hoping Tennessee squeaks it out .. not often you root for the No. 2 seed to win so you can face them over a 15 seed!
Josh (Pottstown PA)
I sense overtime...
Eric (Irvine, CA)
Despite the hype this is still a huge upset.
Buzzmaster (5:18 PM)
OK .. Tenn with the ball, tie score and 21.5 seconds!
Buzzmaster (5:18 PM)
Timeout with 1.8 seconds left! Tennessee one shot to win!
Tim (Ma)
....in other news marquette has come back within one point
Tom (ATL)
I don't care what TN does with 3 seconds left, you should never take a time out with less than 5 seconds
scott (Hartford)
Can I get a Backcourt call on that?
Buzzmaster (5:20 PM)
Never really had possession ... got knocked away by Winthrop player ..
John (Glen Burnie)
I smell a second OT game
Don (Kansas)
Marquette leads! What a comeback!
Little Adam (Gonzaga)
Parity is in full effect in college hoops!
Buzzmaster (5:21 PM)
Now 2.9 seconds on the clock ..
Buzzmaster (5:22 PM)
Here we go!
Buzzmaster (5:22 PM)
Hoooooooooly cow! Tennessee with the amazing shot! Count it!
Josh (Pottstown PA)
WOW!!!!
Buzzmaster (5:22 PM)
Tennessee up 2 with .4 seconds left!
Taylor (Hendo)
that shot lofton made was impossible
Mitch (Florida)
HOW DID THAT GO IN???? He was behind the basket!!!
Josh (Pottstown PA)
Thats why it's called March Madness.
Greg (San Francisco, CA)
Winthrop had a bunch of chances to take a lead in the last few minutes, but couldn't hit anything
Billy (Baton Rouge)
Can you imagine how much trouble Tennessee would have had if they got the seed they deserved?
Buzzmaster (5:25 PM)
Game over .. Tennessee wins.
John (VA)
Goodbye Winthrop, thanks for a great game
sam (new jersey)
a ton of great games so far today
Alex (Seattle via Amherst)
Im glad I picked wichita st. over tenn next round.
Jeremiah (Baton Rouge)
Its funny that we are talking about a 15 seed borderline choking over a number 2...wow. I love March.
Buzzmaster (5:27 PM)
Wow ... has this been fun or what? We're going to wrap up the live chat for today ... enjoy the rest of the games this evening and be sure to come back tomorrow ... we'll do it all over again!
