The Pulse (4:46 PM)

The Pulse (4:47 PM)
But you can also send your questions and comments ahead of time, and we'll save them for the show. So if you've got questions for Edgerrin James, Shawne Merriman, Winston Justice or NFL draft expert Todd McShay, fire away below!
The Pulse (4:47 PM)
You can also send questions for ESPN college football analyst Jim Donnan, who will be live at spring practice for West Virginia.
The Pulse (12:53 PM)
All right. we're just minutes from hitting the air!
The Pulse (12:54 PM)
We'll be talking a lot of NFL, draft and otherwise, today.
The Pulse (12:54 PM)
But we're also tracking the afternoon baseball. So if you've got a comment on one of the teams involved in early action, it'll be a good way to get on ESPNEWS!
The Pulse (12:55 PM)
Indians-Tigers, Mets-Brewers and Red Sox-Mariners all get underway shortly.
Daniel (Houston, Tx)
sweet deal I am down for that
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
Will we be talking any baseball?
The Pulse (12:55 PM)
We'll have baseball sprinkled throughout the show, depending on how much good analysis everyone offers up in here!
Steve (Dallas)
Welcome to the Pulse, your home for everything sports every Saturday. Your chance to get away from all the hustle and bustle that life brings you. Just you and your computer for 3 hours. Life is great on the Pulse.
The Pulse (12:56 PM)
Steve is our unofficial spokesman.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
Come on, I'm biting at the bit...LET'S GO!!!
The Pulse (12:57 PM)
And we'll also be checking in on the NBA, especially in the final hour, so start collecting your thoughts on the NBA MVP race.
Joe (Concord,NH)
How do I listen to the Pulse without a TV?
Steve Bunin (12:58 PM)
zach - don't you mean CHOMPING at the bit? Dari and I are here, Pulsites - welcome to the show!!! Edge James, Reggie Bush, Shawne Merriman, just a few of the guests we've got on today's show, yo! Plus, we're gonna ask you who's the NBA's MVP? Nash, Dirk, LeBron, Dwayne, Chauncey, Kobe? Who do you like?
The Pulse (12:58 PM)
That makes it a little tougher, Joe. But we'll be chatting in here throughout the show, including visits from the anchors Steve Bunin and Dari Nowkhah, so you'll still have a good time.
The Pulse (12:59 PM)
So keep the baseball comments coming, but one of our first guests in Edgerrin James.
The Pulse (1:00 PM)
What do you all think of his move to Arizona? Are the Cards finally a legit playoff contender?
irvin (puerto rico)
Cardinals will make the playoffs this year
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
If Arizona gets Favre, then we can talk playoffs in Tempe...
The Pulse (1:01 PM)
Uh, Kurt Warner might have a problem with that move.
Steve (Dallas)
No way. No quarterback, no offensive line. 6-10 this year.
Brandon (Boston)
Cardinals are 7-9.
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Arizona has always needed a #1 back and they got that with Edge and they will make the playoffs
Joe (PHX)
What do AZ need to be a contender? They havent been good is so long!
bryan (wisconsin)
guys the bidwell's still own this team they are probably the worst owners in sports
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
Warner has no say in it, he's getting old, and he has already had his prime season...
The Pulse (1:03 PM)
Which some would say is also true of Favre ...
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Kurt Warner is still in the league??
Dieter (Gig Harbor, WA)
If the Cardinals keep Bolding, and Fitzgerald healthy, they will make the playoffs as a wild card.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
I see no reason to take AZ seriously. They've put very talented teams together before. As long as the Bidwells own the team, they'll soak in mediocrity or worse.
Travis (Indiana State)
Cards need an o-line....
Steve (Dallas)
Mariners what's the deal with them?
bryan (wisconsin)
the cards still have a lot of holes on defense and on the o-line
Brett (Va Beach)
I think Nascar is extremly boring, what about it do you find so interesting?
Steve (Dallas)
Afternoon, Pulse. How ya doin' today?
The Pulse (1:06 PM)
How about the rest of the free-agent landscape? The Cards got Edge, but which teams do you think improved the most this offseson?
The Pulse (1:06 PM)
Redskins signing some receivers?
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
BusterAs a White Sox Fan I am a little concerned about the pitching so far, are my worries justified?
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Cleveland will fold up and Chicago will be back on their throne in no time
The Pulse (1:06 PM)
Cowboys land T.O.? Colts get Vinatieri?
Scott (Chicopee, MA)
I personally think Edge is a bit of a sell out. He chose a mediocre team to sign with for a ton of dough instead of going to a playoff calibur team for a little less money.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
The Indianapolis Colts...they finally got a clutch kicker!
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Vinatieri leaving New England for Indianapolis was a slap in the face
Tim (FL)
what is the deal with the mariners...no pitching besides felix...not much hitting to talk about
bryan (wisconsin)
don't we see the redskins do this every year in free agency they go out and over pay for a ton of free agents or give up all of their draft picks hasn't seemed to work yet
Neal (Kitchener, ON)
What did Washington sink so much money into WR? I guess we will see a lot of 4-WR sets.
Steve Bunin (1:08 PM)
Tim - good point. They were hoping Beltre would be the '04 Beltre, not the '04 Scott Spiezio. Huge hole in the lineup. Instead of a .320, 40, 120 guy, you've got a .270, 15, 85 guy.
Dieter (Gig Harbor, WA)
The Colts weren't overly interested in Edgerrin, that's why he chose to get out of Indy and sign with a team that was willing to dish out the bucks to him.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Eh, he likes warm weather. I'm not going to kill they guy for taking money, the nicer city and the nicer weather.
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Indianapolis chokes when the get to big game situations...James wanted to start over fresh and what a perfect place for him
Scott (Chicopee, MA)
Good for Indy. They finally got their much needed kicker that will help bring them to the Super Bowl. Of course, they will still have to beat the Vikes.
The Pulse (1:11 PM)
Can the Colts fill the hole left by Edge? Would Laurence Maroney or LenDale White in the draft work?
Javier (Puerto Rico)
Indy did not make it to the super bowl last season, they won,t do it in 2006.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
Maroney would play in his home dome...
Tim (FL)
maroney might make the difference but i think theyll be lucky if denver doesnt take him and who knows about white he may not even be ready for the season
Noah (Owings Mills)
White's injury hurts his stock and might keep him out of the 1st. Maroney is pretty good though.
Scott (Chicopee, MA)
Considering LenDale just tore his hamstring, I doubt the Colts will draft him. I do believe with Peyton as thier leader, they can draft a decent running back to fill Edge's absence.
The Pulse (1:14 PM)
It had actually been torn, it was just diagnosed recently. A lot of folks still think he'll go at the end of the first, or early in the second.
Daniel (Houston, Tx)
Lendale White's stock is crashing hard since his pro day and now his injury Maroney or maybe DeAngelo Williams if he is still available
Neal (Kitchener, ON)
Maroney would fit well in their system. I don't see thunder aka LenDale getting a 1000 yard season any time soon.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Sure. Almost any running back is replaceable. Except Tiki, because of the role he plays on the team.
Tim (Phoenix)
LenDale White would work. Someone will get a great back late in the first round
Javier (Puerto Rico)
Maroney wont be available but now that you say it, with Whit e it could work. He is a workhorse and a bettis type back, something Indy has never had and always ends up needing.
dan (new york)
i think it would work if they got lendale...they also need some one else though...maybe through draft or free agency...
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
LenDale White is too much of a risk right now, I would rather them take a chance on Maroney
Alex (Middle of Nowhere, PA)
Lendale last year had the most pro potential I thaught to have an impact his first year in the pros now with his injury it will prolly be another year but he has the size and speed to play and would be amazing for the colts
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Too much of a risk for a 1st round pick
Daniel (Houston, Tx)
Let's get to draft talk already
Josh (Dallas TX)
T.O. makes the Cowboys a instant superbowl contender.
bryan (wisconsin)
scott, could you turn down that much $$$
irvin (puerto rico)
if it was you, scott you would go for the money,i now i would
Jacob (Corpus Christi)
T.O. EASY COLTS HAVE NO GROUND GAME NOW.
The Pulse (1:16 PM)
Ok, seems like we could have a pretty good debate on LenDale White, but we've got E.J. Hradek next.
Will (Virginia Beach)
The Cardinals need to do more spending to start winning.
Jacob (Corpus Christi)
Did Edge go for the team or the money?
The Pulse (1:17 PM)
Any NHL fans out there?
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Ichiro and Sexson are having horrible starts, that is whats wrong with them
Noah (Owings Mills)
Yea go Caps
Jacob (Corpus Christi)
cards have warner at qb enough said
Kevin (Illinois)
I am
Daniel (Houston, Tx)
key word for the cards DEFENSE
Travis (Indiana State)
Enough with the Cardinals...they haven't been good in years...
Tim (FL)
of course
Will (Virginia Beach)
The Cardinals should draft a quarterback. Kurt Warner is past his prime.
dan (New york)
good i love hockey
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
What about Cleveland? Can they make a run towards the playoffs if Edwards and Winslow can stay healthy?
The Pulse (1:18 PM)
How about some Stanley Cup picks from you all? BUT you've got to explain your pick.
Thomas (Hollywood,fl)
The Mighty Ducks will make another run in the Playoffs, and win it all
Steve Bunin (1:19 PM)
Bryan - I wouldn't doubt it. Every year there's some team that goes from worst to first, or at least, crappy to the playoffs. Chicago last year ... the list is too long to type, but if the Browns make a wise choice in the draft, and if Kellen Winslow could ever produce like he did at the U, they'll be tough.
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
I hope Rick Nash stays in Columbus for life...He is the #1 piece to the puzzle for the Blue Jackets
Tim (FL)
ottawa...they just have the team to beat this year...a lot of talent
Nick (Chicago, Illinois)
Hey what do you guys think about ESPN changing its programming to that of ESPN HOllywood and Gettin' wild with Cindy Garrison?
bryan (wisconsin)
heatly will lead the senators to the cup. badger power.
Steve Bunin (1:19 PM)
Nick - we only watch ESPNews. :)
Neal (Kitchener, ON)
NHL fan here, but in Canada, that's the only sport they talk about. I wish I had ESPN!
dan (New york)
new york rangers without a doubt because they have great goaltending in Henrik Lundqvist and Kevin Weekes, they have arguably the best hockey player inj the world in Jaromir Jagr and they have amazing team chemistry
The Pulse (1:20 PM)
The Rangers do seem like a little bit of a sleeper as the No. 3 in the East.
Scott (Chicopee, MA)
Red Wings WILL win the Cup this year. You can quote me. They have the best lines in the entire league and with the most points in the league? How ca you think any different? Manny Legace hasn't been the most efficient goalie, but he'll do what he needs to.
Mike (Grand Rapids, MI)
Carolina, even though I'm from MI. They have a lot of weapons in Staal, Whitney, Williams, Cole, Weight, Recchi, etc.
Noah (Owings Mills)
New Jersey Devils. Strong offense, dangerous lower seed. Veteran goalie who knows what it takes. Brian Gioanta and Elias are the most underrated duo in the NHL. Next year, watch out for the Washington Capitals
The Pulse (1:21 PM)
It's a shame Ovechkin won't be in the playoffs, he could bring in some new fans.
dave (roslyn, NY)
how bout san jose in the west? they're unstoppable since Joe Thorton came to town and brought his unselfish brilliance with him
Jason (Pocatello, Idaho)
I'm still not into hockey... ever since the lock out, i still haven't quite been able to come back. it really hurt their organization a lot!!
Brandon (Richmond VA)
I would rather watch tennis than hockey. Besides football, basketball, and baseball are the only sports people care about.
Jacob (Corpus Christi)
Who cares about the NHL? Not down here its baseball or NFL baby.
Brandon (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl)
NHL stinks
Matt (Coral Springs, FL)
cleveland???? Playoffs????? someones been hanging with rciky a lil much
mike (Toledo)
Detroit...they are going to let Stevey Y go out on top.
dan (New york)
everyone picked them last in the nhl..i mean i think they have a legit chance..what do you guys think
The Pulse (1:31 PM)
Ok, good hockey chatter. That's how it work. You guys give the analysis, we get it on air.
The Pulse (1:32 PM)
We'll be updatin the news next, and getting some more of your thoughts on Barry Bonds.
The Pulse (1:32 PM)
And then it's on to Reggie Bush and the NFL draft!
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Bonds needs to shut his yap and go away
Steve Bunin (1:33 PM)
alright Pulsites - we're onto the NFL Draft this half-hour: Reggie Bush is here, plus a draft expert on who's sliding out of the 1st round... send your q's now!
Thomas (Hollywood,fl)
Barry Bonds is a big baby. He says Pedro Gomez has problems. Has he had a reality check on hom yet.
Emmanuel (Lawrence, MA)
I think Barry Bonds is right you guys sould leave him alone and set up a day to talk about the stariod use and on baseball talk about the GAME
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
The San Francisco Chronicle's timing of releasing these stories are quite interesting. First of all, t he book came out just before Opening Day, and columnists were overlooking Opening Day. Now, since that bonds is slumping, they thought it was time to release something ese to the public, at the most inconvenient time for Barry!
dan (New york)
Why do you say that...I dont get why everyone hates him, i mean know one has proven he did anything wrong, just because hes a great hitter doesnt mean hes a cheater
Justin (New Jersey)
Lets stop with all the Barry Bonds talk, just lock him up and get back to talking about real baseball.
The Pulse (1:38 PM)
All right, let's talk some draft.
The Pulse (1:38 PM)
75% of SportsNation thinks the Texans should take Reggie Bush, so that seems like a safe pick. But does anyone here want to make a case for someone else?
Jason (Pocatello, Idaho)
I find it interesting that all of this steroid stuff focusing around Barry Bonds. What about Palmeiro?!?! "I have never, never used steroids". Right in front of the gov. I would think that Palmeiro would be in a lot more trouble than Bonds would be. We all know that Palmeiro did steroids!!!!
Brennon (Holland,MI)
So who does everyone think detroit is going to pick this year?
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
If Texas wants to have a legimate shot of being a playoff team they should take Vince Young....He can do more than any other quarterback in the draft....run, throw and make the big plays
Thomas (Hollywood,fl)
Well at least our new subject is just flat out good. Reggie Bush well help the Texans but won't make the playoffs. The Texans have no O-Line. Where do they expect him to run?
Dominic (Holland)
I think the Texans should draft Vince Young first overall. because David Carr is just horrible.
Jacob (Corpus Christi)
Texans need to trade Carr, draft Young, how could you pass on superman.
Bryan (Atlanta)
John Clayton knows nothing about the Draft. Titans will draft Leinart, not Vince Young.
Matt (Clearwater, FL)
Chris Shelton...whodathunkit?
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
What about Vince Young? Carr hasn't been really good at Reliant, so he could learn from Vince!
Ryan Two Egg,Fl
Everyone needs to stop talking about Barry , if he used them, he used them, if he didn't, he didn't. I get tired of seeing his stinking highlights too!
Joshua (Cincinnati)
Forget Barry. He is ruining baseball. Let's talk about real sluggers like Adam Dunn
The Pulse (1:41 PM)
Vince Young to mentor David Carr? That's a theory I haven't heard before.
Alex (Rowlett, TX)
Vince Young will be the biggest bust since Herschel Walker. You can quote me on that one.
Ozze (Atlanta)
Well it depends on the team's need. It has been proven over and over again that defense win superbowls. Texans aren't ready for that so they need to fill up the stands and hopefully contend later on.
dan (New york)
Its a tough decision. i think dominick davis is a good back.I think they could use some help on the offensive line or on defense. But i think that you have to pick reggie bush unless you can trade for someone outstanding before the draft.
Jacob (Corpus Christi)
What would Bobby Bonds say about all this? Your wrong Barry.
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
People dont like him because of the way he shows himself
dan (New york)
So what do you guys think about the Mets, do you think they are for real, i think they can make it
bryan (wisconsin)
david carr has never had anyone around him to prove how good he is he gets sacked 70 times a year
Alex (PA)
Every year teams do well with an unknown RB it is more important to get a great QB then a Stellar RB, Bush isn't and every down back and does not touch the ball every play like a QB so I'd say Lienhart or Young are more valuable
Will (Virginia Beach)
If Reggie Bush is not the first overall pick than the Texans must be out of their mind. They will regret that decision forever.
Mike (Dearborn )
ok im tired of hearing that Reggie Bush will not be able to carry the ball 15-20 times he wont have to he will get his numbers in 10-15 and take those Texans to the playoffs one day
patrick (Pennsylvania)
they should take matt leinart they have a pretty good rb his name is dominick davis.
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
For anyone who thinks Reggie Bush or Barry Sanders were a better college RB than Herschel Walker, please do some research on the man.
Matt (Philly, PA)
Yes, the logical pick for the texans to make is D'brickashaw Ferguson. Their o-line is the worst in football and they will never be consistent offensively so long as David Carr is on his back after 3 seconds. If the Texans were smart, they would trade down to get value for Bush and take Ferguson but if that's not possible, D'Brick is still the better pick because he is much more of an upgrade to the O-line than Bush is to the RB position and Dominic Davis.
The Pulse (1:46 PM)
That makes for a nice transition to the Saints at No. 2. Another team rumored to be interested in Ferguson.
Dayne (Dublin,Ga)
The Pulse should do a mock draft
The Pulse (1:46 PM)
We'll have Todd McShay from Scouts, Inc. up next to talk about his mock draft.
The Pulse (1:47 PM)
And there is a SportsNation mock draft going on through April 26. Voters made picks for the first eight picks this week.
JC (Phoenix, AZ)
Draft Reggie Bush and maybe trade the pick to the Broncos and get the O-Line
Brennon (Holland,MI)
Reggie, So what you take on the teams you have visited so far and were do you really want to go and what team do you think you will fit the best on?
Bryan (Atlanta)
The star of this draft isn't a quarterback or runningback. It's TE Vernon Davis.
dan (New york)
i agree, they should take D'Brickshaw Ferguson because there offensive line is just awful. David Carr is not that bad of a QuarterBack he just has no protection.Id D'brickshaw does what he did in college...that will be a huge upgrade for the texans because Dominick Davis is not a bad back
spencer (Baltimore MD)
The Texans already have a great back in Dominack Davis. They need a few picks on their offensive line starting with D'Brickishaw Fergusen.
Patrick (Detroit)
Reggie which team do you want to go to? If you had to pick.
Jacob (Corpus Christi)
Im not hating on Reggie i would take him on the COWBOYS but how could the texans pass on Vince.
The Pulse (1:48 PM)
But what should the Saints do at No. 2 if the Texans take Bush?
bryan (wisconsin)
with all the holes the saints have they should trade down get some picks and take the best guy available at that spot
Vaughn(baltimore,md)
Who will the ravens pick at the 13th pick in the draft?
Dayne (Dublin,Ga)
Saints need defense... Mario Williams/AJ Hawk/ or Chad Greenway would help.. but they would need to move down in the draft
Travis (Indiana State)
The Saints need to sure up their O-Line and Ferguson is the best lineman so logically they should take him.
The Pulse (1:49 PM)
They did recently move Jamaal Brown from RT to LT, but could that be a smoke screen to go after Ferguson?
Steven (Miami)
Saints should pickup Williams over Ferguson
JC (Arizona)
Trade some spots and try to get AJ Hawk, or any other good defensive players
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
the saints should then look on the other side of the ball, and like Bryan from Atlanta said, they should take Vernon Davis!
Deion (Charlotte NC)
The goal of the draft is to get the best available player at your pick. So Reggie Bush and Mario Williams should go picks 1 and 2.
Brennon (Holland,MI)
No way the saints need somone like ferguson badly
Dan (Milwaukee)
This is easy. Take D'Brickashaw Ferguson. They paid Brees 60M. If he wants to be the next David Carr, the Saints better upgrade their O-Line.
Ryan Two Egg,Fl
D,Brickshaw Ferguson is overrated , Marcus McNeil is the best O-line men he only allowed one sack in his whole college career, his freshman year. He is better. Plus he was in the SEC!!!
The Pulse (1:54 PM)
Ah, the SEC apologists creep up, even in the offseason.
Dan (Milwaukee)
And Ferguson was in the ACC, what I think to be a tougher conference.
Dayne (Dublin,Ga)
Hey the SEC was the best Conf last year!
Josh (Dexter, NY)
Saints should take D'Brick. They're content with Brees, their D-Line is a strong point, he makes the most sense. Mario Williams is great, but I think he and Jay Cutler have been the most overhyped of this year's class.
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
Has there ever been a lineman taken #1?
Bryan (Atlanta)
What are you talking about Ryan? D'Brickashaw DOMINATED at the Senior Bowl. McNeil has chronic back problems that will lower his draft status also.
Bryan (Atlanta)
The most overhyped of this class are Chad Greenway and Chad Jackson.
The Pulse (1:57 PM)
That's a good topic. Greenway seems to be moving up the draft board. But among top prospects, who do you all think are the biggest potential busts?
Steve Bunin (1:58 PM)
only 2, Bryan: Orlando Pace, '97, Rams and Ron Yary, '68, Vikings
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
No! Chad Greenway is right where he should be, in the teens. He did a hell of a job in Iowa City, and he should in the NFL, most preferrably, St. Louis!
Ray (Macomb)
Reggie will provide great addition to the offense, keeping the defense honest in both the run game and passing attack. He is critical to David Carr's fullfilling of his potential.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
Here's the real sleeper in this Draft: Tennessee S Jason Allen
jason (bethpage new york)
without a doubt is jay cutler
David (Miami)
What is the best solution to all the Bonds controversy? Should he come clean, quit and go away or continue what he is doing?
Steven (Miami, FL)
Tye Hill (CB) out of Clemson seems like he can be a bust
Brian A. (Western Springs,IL)
I say USC's QB Matt somthing will be drafted by the saints for injury reasons for the saints QB's. GOOD LUCK MATT!!!!!!
Tim (Orlando)
matt leinart...hes has the exact same arm as chad pennington and last time i chekced hes not doing all to well.
Bryan (Atlanta)
The biggest potential bust is Vince Young. He has not proven himself to be a complete Quarterback (who will be drafted at 7 by the Raiders by the way)
Jon (Buffalo, NY)
Why don't the teams like the Falcons use a 2 QB system so they can fake the defense on who will throw or who will run
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
Vince Young will be a bust in the NFL.
Dayne (Dublin,Ga)
The biggest busts will be Reggie Bush and Vince Young because a team would have to change their whole system to adapt to those two.
Josh (Dexter, NY)
1 of the 3 top QB's, Leinart, Young, or Cutler, will be a bust. History alone tells us this.
rick (ob, ca)
Ngata, DeAngelo and J Williams
Kyle Brown (Monticello, IN)
Jay Cutler...I hadn't even heard of him until these mock drafts started popping up...he's a total bust
Steven (Miami, FL)
Vince Young will be the Next Akili Smith.
The Pulse (2:01 PM)
Akili wasn't nearly as mobile as Vince Young. You'd be better off comparing him to Cade McNown if you're looking for a negative.
Daniel (Houston,Tx)
Nobody thought Vince Young was going to be a good quarterback in college when he struggled in his early years. Showed how right you some of yall where.
JC (Arizona)
LenDale White because he is always injured. Good thing the Cards signed Edge. If he went to the Cards, he would have been the next JJ Arrington
Derek (Springfield)
Did someone actually just label reggie bush as a bust. With players like Bush and Young you change your system to fit the player not the other way around.
Dayne (Dublin,Ga)
Kyle the fact that you have never heard of Cutler shows that you dont pay attention to anything but your local sports page because Cutler was a stud at Vandy!
Bryan (Atlanta)
Jason Allen is no sleeper. He is a 1st-2nd round pick. A true sleeper is Travis Wilson WR Oklahoma on offense and Chris Gocong DE Cal Poly on defense
Shawn,(Illinois)
Young was over rated in College and will be in the NFL.
Dave (Bronx)
Jay Cutler's name keeps popping up because no one wants to pass on the next Tom Brady and let him drop to third round. So anybody with Brady potential gets overhyped.
Jason (Pocatello, Idaho)
Cutler is extremly overhyped!!! I think he will be an ok QB, but he isn't even close to being in the same league as Matt or Vince!!!
Jeremy (Lowell,IN)
Hey who is on this week that is still to come
jason ((bethpage new york))
the only bust will be jay cuttler
Will (Virginia Beach)
Nfl offenses won't have to change for Reggie Bush. Just get him atleast 15 touches each game, and he will be a game breaker.
Steve Bunin (2:05 PM)
Still to come - a report from West VA's spring football scrimmage, plus former USC OT Winston Justice, Olympian Shani Davis, and Chargers LB Shawne Merriman.
The Pulse (2:05 PM)
Let's take a beak from football and talk NBA playoffs ...
The Pulse (2:06 PM)
Starting with the Eastern Confernece. Can anyone stop the Pistons?
The Pulse (2:06 PM)
Pick your challenger (or pick the Pistons) and make your best case for reaching the NBA Finals.
rick (ob, ca)
What there to talk about? Its gonna be Detroit Rock City unless injuries hit hard core.
Steven (Miami, FL)
The Heat are the only team in the East to give Detroit a good dog fight.
Kevin (Illinois)
No one can stop the Pistons, and it kills me to say this as a Bulls fan, but, as long as Rip Hamilton keeps nailing shots as he does and the Wallace's keep grabing rebounds like they do, no one can stop them
Dayne (Dublin,Ga)
The Nets seem really well-rounded right now with Kidd, Jefferson, and Carter. I think they have a good chance to upset the Pistons and make the Finals
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
New Jersey Nets any on of their three superstars can control a game on any given night.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
You know what, I think the Pacers and/or the Cavs could. Starting with Indy, Foster has shut down Big Ben once, it can be done, and with the Cavs,I think there's an MVP member on that team!
The Pulse (2:08 PM)
Now that's the way to go out on a limb.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
The Nets. When their core (kidd carter rjeff kristic) are playing well, they're better than the Pistons. The Nets historically play DET tough anyhow.
Jason (Pocatello, Idaho)
The pistons were in a league of their own, but they have come back to the pack. I think the team that everyone needs to be really scared of in the Eastern Con. is the Nets. They have really pulled it together and might even pass up the Heat for the 2 spot in the playoffs. With Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson, the pistons better watch out!!!
TIGG (FLORIDA)
WHO DO YOU THINK WILL HAVE A BETTER CAREER. YOUNG OR LEINART
chris (michigan)
bullips is the mvp by far
Brian A. (Western Springs,IL)
I really think that Barry Bonds is a joke and the MLB should take him out of majors for his carrier.
matthew (McAlester)
jj arrington is just a second year guy and u r already callin him a flop
Travis (Indiana State)
It looks like Leinart is wanting to go to the Jets so he can be in the NY spotlight.
Dayne (Dublin,Ga)
Derek, the 49ers changed their offense for Alex Smith and look where it got them!
matthew (McAlester)
travis wilson is a stud he could be the next chris carter
The Pulse (2:15 PM)
Ok, we're going to be talking about NBA MVP later in the show, so we might as well get some chatter going in here.
The Pulse (2:16 PM)
Who is your pick for the award? And in a crowded field of legit candidates, why does your pick deserve it the most/
Taylor (Kansas)
Dwayne Wade should be the MVP hands down this year. His team is good and look at his leadership and how he plays the game. He never wants to sit out. His stands are just as good as anyone elses
Paul (Weatherford, TX)
Nowitzki Baby!
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
Mamba all the way. Without him the Lakers win fewer games than the Knicks this year.
David (San Francisco)
We in SF don't care if Bonds was on steroids. We are much more nervous about his health. Will he ever hit a homer again? We have had so many Bonds memories, and we couldn't care less if he was juicing
Kyle Brown (Monticello, IN)
The way Steve Nash has controlled every game he's played in this year makes him the hands down winner. Sorry Kobe, but points aren't everything
Casey (Tampa)
LeBron James without a doubt. LeBron deserves it the most because the Cavs would be playing and losing like they were before james got there and HES AWSOME!
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
LeBron has carried the Cavs, he leads the league in triple-doubles, and he is realistically the face of the NBA right now.
Bob (Sparta,NC)
Steve Nash. He runs that offense in Phoenix and makes those around him better. Without him, Phoenix is fighting for their playoff lives.
Kevin (Minneapolis)
Wade has Shaq. The MVP is LeBron, hands down. The best overall numbers, he is all around the best with not much supporting cast, and he finally got the Cavs in the playoffs
JC (Arizona)
Steve Nash because of 2 reasons. First, he kept the Suns an elite team even without Q and JJ and STAT. Next, he and the Suns are playing better than their 62 win season last year. GO NASH!!!
Shan (City of New York)
LeBron James will win the MVP, 32 Points 7 Assits, 7 Rebounds a game. He gets his team envoled, and his team wins. He is the MVP
Phil (San Diego)
KOBE BRYANT!!! 6 50-point games, and without him the Lakers would have about 15 wins.
The Pulse (2:21 PM)
Wow, took awhile for Kobe to get some support in here.
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
Kobe. Out of all the other candiates. which one of them has to go up against the oppenents best player on the defensive side?
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
If i had to pick a sleeper, I'd go with Elton Brand. He also has carried his team, plus putting the Clips back onto the map in Los Angeles as well as the NBA!
JC (Arizona)
If the Suns don't have Nash, Phoenix will win fewer games than the Knicks or mabe even the Sixers 9-73 team in like the 70s.
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
Um, no it didn't I said him about 10 post ago.
The Pulse (2:23 PM)
Missed it, sorry Clint.
Mike (Baltimore, MD)
I don't think Kobe could be considered valuable. If you have some platinum surrounded by rusty iron, it isn't worth anything.
chris petoskey, mi
billups should win the mvp with out him the offense doesn't run right. Yes kobe will win it how could you not give it to someone who scores 81 points in 1 game!
David (San Francisco)
Though I do not want to admit it, it's Kobe's year. I always want a player on a great team, who leads the team, to win this award, but Kobe deserves it, though he is a ball hog
Fred (Wyoming)
He does not deserve support, so what for six 50 point games and one 81 point performance. LeBron James deserves it.
Jason (Pocatello, Idaho)
What about Elton Brand!!! He is averaging 25 points a game, 10.1 rebounds, and even 3 asstist per game. And on top of that, The clippers are in the playoffs!! Yeah, i said the clippers!!! Can you believe that. and it's all because of Brand!!!
The truth, Philly
I think the lack of clarity in defining the mvp is ridiculous it should be the person you would pick if the league was reshuffled yearly and you draft players based on their previous years performance, who goes number 1? Who is your MVP?
Mike (Philadelphia)
The team with the best chance to make the NBA finals is the Suns, because with Amare coming back and Steve Nash nobody can stop them.
The Pulse (2:24 PM)
Apparently Darren Daulton isn't the only time-traveler amongst us.
Travis (Indiana State)
Where would the Hornets be with out Chris Paul? Forget that he's a rookie he has taken that team for one of the worst to the playoffs!
The Pulse (2:25 PM)
I don't think he'll get much real support, but I'm with you, Travis. Maybe nobody has made a bigger difference than Paul.
Ryan (Two Egg, Fl)
Billups is not the MVP, he has four perrenial all-stars around him. It is Kobe , Lebron, and Nash.
Steven (Miami, FL)
Kobe could care less about winning more titles. He's all about boosting his stats and winning MVP's.
rick (ob, ca)
There is no way LeBorn Wins it, wethere he deserves it or not, Ditto Kobe and Nash (except he deosnt deserve it) Nowitski maybe most improved among superstars. Chauncy = good tem ball, AI, HA, not even clutch Melo or Wade deserve it, Shaq and Ducnan are cripples. GIVE IT TO NOONE.
Jay ((Tracy, CA))
Chauncey Billups hands down. He is the best point guard in the NBA and helped his team to the best record overall.
Ryan (Two Egg, Fl)
D-wade is not the MVP neither is Chauney or Dirk , I love watching all of them but they are not the Mvp.
Jason (Pocatello, Idaho)
Ok, look everyone.... This is the Most Valuable Player, not the MVP for a team. This award should go to the person that is the most valuable in the league, not the team!!
The Pulse (2:28 PM)
I'm not sure that's the most frequently used definition, Jason.
Michael (Mastic, NY)
Without LeBron James the Cavs would not be in the playoff picture. That is why he is the Most Valuable Player.
The Pulse (2:28 PM)
Ok, we're going to get back to the MVP debate in the final hour, when we'll get some of your takes on air.
The Pulse (2:29 PM)
But right after Shani Davis (on right now), we'll be talking college football with Jim Donnan.
The Pulse (2:29 PM)
He's at spring practice for West Virginia, a national title contender this seaosn.
The Pulse (2:30 PM)
Anyone getting excited about college football yet, with spring practices all over the place?
Kevin (Illinois)
Is college football ever over?
nick (los angeles, calfornia)
west virgina? Come on
The Pulse (2:31 PM)
Hey, anyone who saw them in the Sugar Bowl last season knows they're for real. Even if they are in the Big East.
Bill (AZ)
West Virgiania is for real this year and wont choke on the national stage like they usually do.
jason ((bethpage new york))
I think young. He will end upbeing a Michael Vick. I can't wait to see him be named a MVP in one year
adam (colorado)
dirk nowitzki should be MVP
Greg (Preston, Idaho
no he will be the next Jerry Rice
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Lets be fair, tons of high profile players want to play in NY or LA for all sports because of the celeb factor.
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
For what carrier Brian A.? UPS, Fed Ex?
jules (piedmont)
will drew olson possibly be selected in the nfl draft, he went to Piedmont High just a few blocks from my house, real cool kid. Thank You
Steve Bunin (2:32 PM)
Jules - Drew Olson will be drafted, it's just a question of when. I hear he might not go on the first day.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
I'll be more excited by August, but yyeah, now thet practices have strted, I'm thinking about a national championship over here in Iowa City!
Bryan (Atlanta)
Nick, there are other teams besides USC you know? And yes West Virginia, whom will ahve a better record than your Trojans
Steven (Miami, FL)
So who do guys think will be favorites for the National Title this coming season?
The Pulse (2:34 PM)
Steven from Miami has the right idea. How about some national title picks?
Erik (San Dimas, CA)
Barry Bonds is just shocked that he got caught
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
UGA didn't show up for the Sugar Bowl until the second half. Even then it took a fake punt for WVA to hang on to the win.
Michael (Mastic, NY)
Notre Dame could win it all. With Brady Quinn who might be the #1 overall pick next year.
Aaron (Los Angeles)
I went to the USC spring scrimmage. The offense stinks right now, but i think the defense will be in the top 5 in the country.
Theo (Phoenix)
I'm thinking Big Ten this year... Michigan
Aaron (Los Angeles)
Notre Dame. If USC had lost to Notre Dame, i am convinced ND wouldve beaten Texas in the rose bowl (even though they got killed by OHST)
Nick (Mansfield, Oh)
The Ohio State University, Ginn, Smith, and Pittman all came together last year on offense and Tressel has a way of getting to defense to play well
Shan (City of New York)
I have two predictions. Notre Dame will win the National Title, and Brady Quinn will go number 1 in next years NFL draft.
The Pulse (2:41 PM)
All right, slight change of plans, we're hoping to get to West Virginia for some football a little later.
The Pulse (2:41 PM)
So how about we get back to the draft?
The Pulse (2:42 PM)
We do have USC OL Winston Justice coming up in the final hour.
The Pulse (2:42 PM)
Anyone out there hoping their team will pick Justice? He seems to be soaring in mock drafts.
Jordan (Corning,CA)
Carolina will get LenDale White!
Dan (Milwaukee)
Where do you guys think Brian Calhoun will go in the draft and to which team?
Bryan (Atlanta)
Justice is the 3rd best OT in this draft. Don't tell him I said that...he's 10 times my size...
The Pulse (2:43 PM)
Nicely put, Bryan.
Dan (Milwaukee)
I've got Justice to I don't know, the Broncos?
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
The Eagles should take Justice if he's there at #14.
Steve Bunin (2:44 PM)
Dan - I hear scouts are a little scared b/c of his size, but he may have squeezed ahead of LenDale based on L.W.'s terrible off-season. I'd say early 20s, maybe mid 20s if somebody takes a flyer on Lendale. Maybe Denver at 22, though the Broncs don't like to spend a 1st-rdr on a RB... TB at 23.
william (phoenix)
Raiders will be able to draft Vince Young!
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
You know they don't have electricity in West Virginia.
The Pulse (2:45 PM)
How about the draft in general?
Bryan (Atlanta)
Stop all this Notre Dame bandwagon . They have NO DEFENSE. Weis no longer has Bellicheck and Crennel to bail him out. Irish lose 3 games.
Terry (York, PA)
Why dont we go back to talkin baseball?
Bryan (Marion Ohio)
RustyWhat is the thing you miss the most about driving now that you are in retirement?
Ted (Texas)
Jordon Palmer is my heisman pick,This kid from UTEP has an arm.
La Roy (Biloxi, MS)
The only reason everyone is trying to get Bonds out of the game is so that there are no 2 African/American baseball players with the most homeruns. Considering how everyone(sports writers and news casters) puts so much importance on Babe Ruth's record and not Hank Aron's record.
The Pulse (2:45 PM)
Anyone throw draft parties? What makes it so exciting ... or do you hate the draft?
Steve Bunin (2:46 PM)
LaRoy - I don't know about that. I think it's just that Ruth's record is first up. If Bonds gets to the 740s or 750s, it'll be such a hurricane of attention and controversy, and it doesn't have to do with black/white, it has to do with overtaking milestones...
Mike (Baltimore, MD)
If Bunkley and Ngata are taken, but Justice is still on the board, I would love to see the Ravens pick up a solid Olineman. Might give a bit more protection to McNair haha
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
the Pac-10 will send the most players to the NFL...
william (phoenix)
Justice will not be served if Justice falls out of the top 10
Nick ((Alexandria, VA))
Watch out for Penn State because they have a good RB in Royster they just got and there defense is one of the best in the nation
Shan (City of New York)
Macus Vick will go to the Raiders. He can run, throw, and Al Davis doesn't care if he's a thug.
JC (Arizona)
These are the two reasons why I like the draft:1. I get to see who my team's next star or bust is2. the draft-day caps
Jordan (Corning,CA)
I get my chips and dips and sit in front the TV watching the draft all day talking to my friends from from PSH
Bill (Indy)
Wait, I want to comment on the Quinn draft thought. Brady Quinn was possibly the 4th to 5th best QB... but, this was/is one of the weekest QB drafts in recent memory. No way he goes #1 next year. I'll be Title game tickets on it
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
I enjoy the draft, and watch it...draft party sounds a little excesive...or just plain risky if you're a Jets fan.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
To me, i jsut love hearing the ESPN crew have fun with the draft and to hear Mel Kiper Jr.'s analysis.
Dan (Milwaukee)
I'm gonna hate because I know Ted Thompson (if you don't know, the Packers GM) is going to come up with some stupid deal to trade down and then he'll pick the next Tony Mandarich.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
The Eagles are throwing one at Lincoln Financial Field...and the 5,000 tickets were gone within 10 minutes...
Pat Corcoran (Wheaton, Illinois)
Draft parties are fun only if you have people who like different teams. If you have a lot of people who like the same team, its boring.
josh (naugatuck, ct)
i love the draft even the late rounds are exciting...its awesome seeing what your team is doing
Kevin (Illinois)
My main reason for watching the draft is because it has been three or four months since the last football game
Jordan (Corning,CA)
I love the draft, chips and dips all Saturday for the draft. Then more chips and dip for Sunday! Who cares if you don't know who half the people are on the 2nd day?
Mike (Baltimore, MD)
I just love drafts. Even for fantasy leagues, the draft is as fun for me as playing the rest of the season.
Mike (Tempe, AZ)
I love the NFL Draft because of the draft day trades, the Jet, Giant, and Eagle fans booing perceived bad picks, but turn out to be studs(i.e.McNabb), and just all the info you gain by watching it.
The Pulse (2:57 PM)
All right, I think we've firmly established that Pulse fans are draft fans.
The Pulse (2:57 PM)
Hopefully you'll all still check in on the Saturday of the draft ...
aaron g (los angeles)
who ever thinks KOBE is not the MVP is nuts or dont whant to admint he is the best!
robert blakely (queens ny)
steve nash has had to play most of year without amarie enough said!
Jason (Denver)
MVP - One Word (kind of) B-B-B-B-B-B-BILLUPS
David (Dallas)
Dirk should be the MVP. No one predicted Dallas to be a top team in the NBA this year. Look where Dirk has brought them. He has career highs in so many aspects of his game. He gets his points with a little amount of shots. Its hands down.
The Pulse (3:01 PM)
Ok, we're getting settled in for the final hour of the Pulse
The Pulse (3:01 PM)
We've got Winston Justice and Chargers star Shawne Merriman still to come.
The Pulse (3:01 PM)
And we're still looking for your takes on afternoon baseball. What's happening today and what do you think of the teams in action?
jason ((bethpage new york))
mets are doing great and will probobly win today
Kevin (Kokomo, IN)
The Cubs have two of the top young prospects in Ronny Cedeno and Matt Murton starting. Those guys could be what puts the Cubs lineup over the top in the NL Central.
The Pulse (3:03 PM)
Good stuff, Kevin. That's what we're looking for.
Nick (Mansfield Ohio)
Thome has been a beast this year for the defending champs. How smart does kenny williams look not, he only gave up rowland and philly sent cash along with thome
Kevin (Kokomo, IN)
The Mets are 8-1, sure, but against Washington and Florida. Let's wait a bit before crowning them champs!
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
White Sox- Blue Jays tied in the 3rd. This could be a future matchup in the playoffs!
AJ (Jersey)
Burnett is back on the hill and his stuff is still filthy.
Kyle (Chicago)
Despite a slow start to the World Champs Season, I think it is great to see Jim Thome look healthy again, the only thing that is more fun to watch than Jim, is Joe Crede's fantastic defense.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
Detroit is hot right now, because of Chris Shelton, who is my Week 1 MVP!
Ebo (Lompoc, CA)
The Mariners are looking good against the Boston Red Sox. I think the Mariners can make a real push to win the AL West.
The Pulse (3:05 PM)
They'll definitely need Felix Hernandez to be a little more consistent if they want to make a run.
Bob (Sparta,NC)
Unless you live in one of the big markets, MLB is dead. It has become a sport of where the small market teams are just farm clubs for the Yankees and Red Sox and lost my patronage long ago. Sorry ESPN, but that's just the truth.
Brian (Los Angeles)
Agreed, Bob. The MLB, after the strike, never really recovered. I rarely watch games anymore. Bosketball is starting to fade too bacuas if how the game has evolved. LONG LIVE THE NFL!!!
Mike (Baltimore, Md)
To me the biggest suprise so far this season would be the young closers for Baltimore and Boston having such great success so soon, but not suprisingly, no one talks about Chris Ray, only Papelbon
Ebo (Lompoc, CA)
Shelton will cool off. When it's all said and done, Pujols will earn MVP honors.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
that is not true at all! Look at the White Sox, the Astros (last year) and the Mets! There are some smaller markets that are having great success!
Kevin (Kokomo, IN)
The Yankees are really struggling right now and will continue to do so until the starting pitching turns it around.
jason ((bethpage new york))
The mets are doing great! Mostly Pedro Martinez. But the whole team is still very great. I mean, did you see yesterdays game. WOW!
Nathan (Cypress, TX)
I'm glad the Yankees are struggling. People down south like me dont really like the Yankees
Shan (City of New York)
As a Yankee fan, I have to say, The Yankees are not the only team with money. I know they have the most, but there not the only ones spending the big bucks.
Terry (York, PA)
Winston looks like Lavar Arrington.
The Pulse (3:15 PM)
That's a good call, Terry. We got a little sidetracked talking baseball, but Winston Justice is talking to Dari right now.
The Pulse (3:15 PM)
And taking your emails, nice work from Rammy in L.A. and Adam in Columbus.
Shan (City of New York)
Right now he has a Escort, in two weeks, he'll have a Benz.
Shan (City of New York)
Winston won't be doing that to Micheal if he gets drafted by Philly, and comes to New York.
SFC Barber, Iraq
As a Edgerrin James fan, what was the thought process of him choosing Arizona, was it the possibility of playing on grass, the weather, or was it solely depending on the money he received, I hope it is not the latter
Terry (York, PA)
If he wants to pancake block strahan then that works if he goes to the eagles
pic (smyrna, tn)
Kobe!!! Who else could it be. He's the only player in the MVP race that gets it done on both ends of the floor. Keep firing it up KB!!
jason (bethpage new york)
Winston remindes me of Warren Sapp
Dustin (Rapid City, SD)
Winston Justice will a regular in the Pro-Bowl
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
I think Winston looks more like Will Smith when he played "Ali"...
The Pulse (3:23 PM)
Shawne Merriman on the phone now, sounding like he could be the next Mel Kiper if he wasn't busy collecting sacks.
Tony (San Diego)
I actually met Shawne Merriman at a charity event last year and he was really cooly, I just stood there in awe because if you see him in person your say he doesn't look that big (Must be a man thing.), but then you watch him play on Sunday and realize it was just a pipedream. You couldn't pay me to run athim if it was 4th and one on the goal line in the Super Bowl.
The Pulse (3:25 PM)
So Merriman spent $32,000 to take the whole team out to dinner .... Yikes.
Chris Carrasco (Roswell NM)
Shawne seems like a bright guy to go along with all that althetic ability
Nick (Mansfield Ohio)
Merriman had a great year Foley, Williams and he shut down that colts offense to end the unbeaten streak.
Ryan (Wellsville, NY)
I think he will be in the top 3 linebackers this season
Mike (Tempe, AZ)
I love "Lights Out" and that has to be the best tatoo/nickname combo ever, and the arm flick is a great celebration
Steve (Michigan)
Merriman has the coolest nickname I have ever heard. They started calling him "Lights Out" cuz he knocked out a few kids in high school.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
He'll never have Kiper's hair....
Mike (Baltimore, Md)
I wish i had 32 grand to waste on 1 meal.
Shan (City of New York)
He says that like 32 grand is change.
Daniel (Charlottesville VA)
He spent more on dinner, than I make in a year.
Nick (Chicago)
Shouldn't his nickname be Merry MAn? He always seems so happy all the time
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
I had $32,000...and bought a car with it...
Nick (Chicago)
You think he went somewhere fancy?
The Pulse (3:29 PM)
If he spent $32,000 at Denny's, that's even more impressive.
Travis (Indiana State)
If he continues to play the way he did last year he can spend whatever he wants on one meal.
Tony (San Diego)
Yeah, but what about the TIP?!
JC (Arizona)
I know, if he spent 32 grand at In and Out, that is more amazin than the 69 Mets
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Merriman's Millions...have 30 days to spend 30 mil on dinners...
The Pulse (3:31 PM)
Nice Richard Pryor reference ...
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Can I 3,200 Grand Slam Breakfasts please (and make that to go)?
Mike (Baltimore, Md)
Depends, the Denny's on route 6, or 4?
The Pulse (3:31 PM)
Someone knows Bristol a little too well ...
Derek (Auburn CA)
What about his Waiter. He gets a 7 thousand dollar tip
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
$32,000 on 52 guys...that's over $615 per player!
Derek (Auburn CA)
He must not tip 15%. If he did the tip would only be 4,800 dollars
Shan (City of New York)
ESPN should have a special on the Chargers rookie dinner next season, where the cameras are there.
The Pulse (3:33 PM)
All right, now that we've all recovered from that dinner bill.
The Pulse (3:33 PM)
We've got about 25 minutes left, what do you all want to talk about?
Travis (Indiana State)
Baseball!
jason bethpage, new york
DRAFT!!!!!
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
Baseball!
Derek (Auburn CA)
NBA MVP
The Pulse (3:38 PM)
All right, let's finish up with your thoughts on the opening weeks of MLB ...
The Pulse (3:38 PM)
And Barry Bonds, if you have anything else to say on that.
Mike (Baltimore, Md)
Or we can talk about how it takes 25 minutes to decide what to talk about for the last 25 minutes :)
Shan (City of New York)
Bonds needs to retire. He says he doesn't care about the records. He says all he wants to do is win the World Series, well San Fran isn't winning a WS anytime soon. Barry, stop ruining your carrer, retire, and the media will leave you alone.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Eveyone's got issues but the guy with the Mardi Gras head and the Bacne....
JC (Arizona)
Who is the Opening Week MVP? And Barry Bond's steroids are running out
Steven (Miami, FL)
HAHAHAHA!!!!!
Ryan (Wellsville, NY)
The Indians have impressed me
Tanis (Brooklyn,NY)
Barry is still a Hall Of Famer
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
What a creep...No, I want to talk about *'s
jason bethpage, new york
Lets talk about the draft. Its in 2 weeks people lets go!
Nick (Mansfield Ohio)
Whats your guys take on two players taking their time waiting to see if they are going to retire or come back, i am talking about Bret Favre and Roger Clemons
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Didn't Barry Bonds tell his own show's ESPN camera people to get away from him?
JC (Arizona)
Steve Nash wil win the MVP big time!!!!!!
Shawn,(Illinois)
Please talk baseball.
Nick (Chicago)
NBA MVP
Shawn,(Illinois)
We love are cubbies in Illinois.
Daniel (Charlottesville VA)
It's good to see the Red Sox losing.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
Baseball, it is! Who are your studs or duds from Week 1?
Rich-Chicago
Come on! Hockey never get's any love. We've got playoffs coming!!
Antwuan (Keller, TX)
KOBE! He is undoubtably the Most Valuable Player. 62 in 3 quarters against Dallas, 81 against the Raptors.... 81! We'll probably never see that again in our lifetime. Not to mention that he has the Lake Show on pace to capture the 7the seed in the west. Tim Legler didnt even have the Lakers making the playoffs at the beginning of the year. I mean what more do you want from a player like KB8.
Ryan Two Egg,Fl
Whatever I love sports, lets talk everything.
Mike (Baltimore, Md)
Or get Tony Reali in here to use some old obscure simpsons jokes that make me feel special when i get them.
Shawn,(Illinois)
The draft isn't for two weeks I don't need any more Mel Kiper coverage.
Derek (Auburn CA)
The giants are going to be a serious contender in the NL
jaime santa ana, ca
Kobe should be the MVP because he deserves it more than any other player for his individual talent and the success of the Lakers. Fact of the matter is people just find excuses to not pick him as MVP. And if you ask me that's a slap on the face to NBA history and to the true MVP "Kobe Bryant"
Billy Florida
What about seattle , the sonics are getting screwed by the NBA, who would want to see Ray Allen leave Seattle.
Daniel (Charlottesville VA)
NFL
Dustin (South Dakota)
If Green Bay can sign Lavar Arrington, then they will probably trade down in a deal which would include getting rid of Javon Walker.
Zach (Montezuma,IA)
The New Busch Stadium is nice and gives St. louis a bit more class, but was it necessary for the Cards to get a new stadium?
Shawn,(Illinois)
Mark Prior and Kerry Wood when will they be back.
Dustin (South Dakota)
I hope Barry Bonds breaks the record! He is treated bad by everyone and he deserves some RESPECT! He might have taken the 'roid, but you got to give him some credit.
Nick (Chicago)
I really dislike baseball now because steroids is all you hear about. This steroids thing is basicaly turning me off baseball. I would rather go to a blackhawks game than watch Barry Bond's Soap Opera 24/7
Slimdog (Colorado Springs)
Cleveland's for real, Barry's in trouble, Shelton could hit 40, Milwaukee could be contender in NL Central....
The Pulse (3:43 PM)
And we didn't start the Fire.
The Pulse (3:43 PM)
Sorry, had a Billy Joel moment with Slimdog's list.
Travis (Indiana State)
The Cubs have six wins from five different pitchers and none of those pitchers are Wood, Prior, or Zambrano
Brian (Norman)
Baseball was cool when Bonds was hitting for average and Maddox could shut out everyone but bonds.
jason bethpage, new york
Its to bad if Bonds doesn't get the record. He never will. Not with all this stuff going on. Bonds needs to retire. I don't want to hear any more about him on ESPNEWS. He would of been alot happier if he retired.
Brian (Norman)
When the ball started flying out of the park all the time ... that's when I stopped watching.
Derek (Auburn CA)
The 1 knock on the cubs is their pitching. If wood, prior, and zambrono can pitch for 2/3 of the season and be healthy...look out for the cubbies
Nick (Mansfield)
It all started happening when Maddux and Glavine made that commercial about how "chicks love the long ball"
Brian (Norman)
And the problem with basketball is that the first half of every pro game doesn't matter.
Nick (Chicago)
Football should be America's new pastime. IS cheating our way to glory really what the USA is about?
The Pulse (3:48 PM)
You might get a debate on that.
Rob (N.B. CT)
Barry Bonds is the greatest power hitter in history. The ESPN.com poll speaks for itself. The fans do not care about all the nonsprts related media coverage of Bonds.
Travis (Indiana State)
Nobody in American history has ever cheated before....
Mike (Baltimore, Md)
What year was it in Back to the Future 2 that had the Cubs win the WS? 2010? Maybe Wood will be healthy for you by then.
Tony (San Diego)
I think Bonds know he is going to get the record but he is not going to let the media or the powers that be in baseball keep him from obtains one of the greatest records in all of sports. Honestly would Barry Bonds' alleged steroid abuse be a issue if he wasn't going to break the Babes' record.
The Pulse (3:49 PM)
Isn't it Hank Aaron's record?
Victor (Chicago)
The Chicago Cubs will win the NL Central Divison because as you guys mentioned Wood, and Prior are coming back. BUT the Wildcard in this is Wade Miller, if he could come back healthy kinda like Scott Williamson is doing now from our bullpen then we could have one of the best rotations in baseball. Also Greg Maddux is looking pretty good right now dont you guys think. What #'s u expect from Mad Dog.
Dustin (South Dakota)
There's nothing more American than cheating and getting away with it.
Shawn,(Illinois)
Compare Baseball's rating's and Football's then tell me what is the American pastime.
The Pulse (3:50 PM)
American Idol?
Rich-Chicago
exactly
Tony (San Diego)
If you are playing the elite teams in the league and go down by ten in the first half see then if the first half doesn't matter.
The Pulse (3:52 PM)
Good stuff everyone, we'll do it again next week!
Steve Bunin (3:54 PM)
Pulsites -- we're outta here. Great work again today. Dari says hi, and I say, "Bizzye!"
