Ryan (Boston,MA)
Hey Pulse!
The Pulse (12:38 PM)
Hey all, we'll be getting started in about 20 minutes. We're starting off the show with a look at the NBA playoffs, so if you've got some predictions or some analysis of the first round, fire it off now!
Derrick (Bourbonnais,IL)
Kobe is going to dominate he Suns this week, it will be tough for the Lakers to knock the Suns out, but I think that it WILL happen. GO Kobe and Go Lakers!!!
Steve (Dallas)
Dallas and Memphis will be such a boring series becuase Memphis has not won a playoff game in its history. Dallas in 5.
The Pulse (12:47 PM)
That's the kind of stuff we're looking for, keep it coming!
Steve Bunin (12:49 PM)
Hey Pulsites! Welcome to another show. Some big-name guests coming up, as you already know - from Mario Williams to Vince Carter to Dany Heatley and more!
Steve Bunin (12:50 PM)
... what I want to know is, who do you think is the most overrated player in the NFL Draft? Vince haters, come out and let your voice be heard! Cutler non-believers, where are you? I know some of you ain't sold on Reggie, either...
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
I can't believe I'm watching a race that has already been raced. i don't even like racing.
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
Flight is delayed, imma be here a while, yes
Bob Jones westpalmbeach Fl
Heat or pistons are gonna win it all
Tyler (Philly)
kobe can't win 4 games by himself can he?
Steve Bunin (12:56 PM)
Pulsites, respond!
The Pulse (12:56 PM)
That's right, Steve and Dari will be dropping in to chat with you throughout the show ... live from the set!
Dustin (Rapid City, SD)
Less than 3 minutes until show time...
The Pulse (12:57 PM)
Some big football news off the top, with the Giants signing LaVar Arrington and Notre Dame apparently landing a big-time QB prospect.
The Pulse (12:58 PM)
If you've got thoughts on Charlie Weis landing Jimmy Clausen, who some call the next John Elway, sound off!
Steve (Dallas)
Nobody can compare anybody to John Elway, maybe except Brett Favre.
bryan (wisconsin)
the next john elway. jimmy clausen is only in high school. remember the name ron pawlus he was suppose to win multiple heisman's.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Yea, I've heard about the Claussen kid for like 3 years running now. That's alot of hype to live up to.
Todd (Atlanta)
Weren't there people wondering how an NFL guy like Weis would do recruiting? Uh, I guess those questions have been answered.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Weis 1 - Carrol 0
The Pulse (1:04 PM)
Good point. Not only does it help ND, it hurts arch rival USC.
Ted (Tampa,FL)
I'm glad the vols didn't get him!! I think that Notre Dame will be a good fit for him becuase Charlie Weis has the mindset to make him a star and I'm sure this is going to help bring in recruits for notre dame.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Jimmy Claussen signs with ND..... Tom Lungbill can sleep well
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Sure, Elway was great come gametime, but no one could touch Kenny O'Brien at the Skills Competition
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Wow, NCAA linebackers are gunna be drooling to drill this kid.
alex (tapma, FL)
how many people have been offered a scholarship by the defending national champs as a junior. he has alot of hype to live up to.
La Roy (Biloxi, MS)
I think it shouln't be allowed for juniors, and lower, highschool kids to verbally commit. There have been plenty of disapointments on under-classment that commit way too early.
Travis (Indiana State)
Claussen will have a Leinart like career at Notre Dame...
bryan (wisconsin)
john elway won two super bowls this kid has not even started his senior year in high school.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
And it means I'm still good to wear my homemade "Booty" jersey.
The Pulse (1:06 PM)
We're going to assume there is no hidden meaning there.
Travis (Indiana State)
If only Clausen could bring some defense to Notre Dame they would be in business...
Steve (Dallas)
Notice most of the people who are here in SportsNation during the week are here for the Pulse chat on Saturday? SportsNation faithful show up every day here.
The Pulse (1:07 PM)
Darn right, SportsNation fans are loyal.
The Pulse (1:07 PM)
Ok, you guys offered up some good stuff on Clausen, that's a good way to start the show.
Dustin (Rapid City, SD)
I'm really high on Mario Williams. I think this kid could be a real great player in the NFL. He reminds of Julius Peppers, but might even be better.
The Pulse (1:08 PM)
And Dustin knows what's up, because Mario Williams is our next guest.
The Pulse (1:08 PM)
Is he the next Julius Peppers ... or the next Aundray Bruce?
Steve (Dallas)
If Mario gets darfted in the top 10 picks, he won't get noticed as much with a poor team as he would've with a good team.
Travis (Indiana State)
Mario Williams will probably be good but there is NO WAY the Texans will take him over Bush.
The Pulse (1:10 PM)
It does seem like this is all a negotiating ploy.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
What's great about SN is that it's a challenge. You can't just post anything and get it up. Either it has to be insightful, or in my case, really, really stupid. Regular stupid won't cut it.
The Pulse (1:10 PM)
Everyone has their role ...
Dustin (Rapid City, SD)
Mario wore that shirt yesterday on another show
al (cleveland)
i think julius peppers because he can carry his dominance to the NFL
jason(bethpage,new york)
To me he could the next michael strahan. He was great in college. If he just gto to a team with a great defensive end like the giants,(who if they get him aand they probobly won't would have a great defense) panthers,or buccaneirs (same with them as giants).
The Pulse (1:13 PM)
Good comparison. Strahan doesn't get enough credit for his athleticism.
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
Mario has the potential to be a pro bowler in the NFL.
Jeff (Bishop,CA)
He is for sure the next Julius Peppers because he has all the physical assats and the smarts.
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
The NFL needs someone like a Reggie White.
Ryan (Boston,MA)
The Texans should trade down,They have a HB in Davis, and a KR/PR in Wells. Trade down and take Mario Williams.
Ben (New York)
It is a good thing Mario Williams will not get drafted by the Texans, he has to play the Colts and Jags 2 times a year, who have a good O-line
Jay (NY)
Zeus the pitbull huh...stay far away from that house.
The Pulse (1:16 PM)
As if Mario Williams living there wasn't enough to scare off anyone looking to break in.
The Pulse (1:17 PM)
Hey, we've been able to get Brendan Shanahan as a late addition to today's show. He'll be up in about an hour.
The Pulse (1:17 PM)
But we need your questions, so if you want to ask Brendan something, send it now.
The Pulse (1:18 PM)
As we shift gears to talk some hockey, anyway (Dany Heatley is the next guest).
The Pulse (1:18 PM)
So fire off questions for Shanahan, or sound off on your picks in the NHL playoffs.
The Pulse (1:18 PM)
I know we've got some hockey fans hiding out there.
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
It looks like the Red Wings will win another cup.
patrick (palmerton, Pa)
If foresberg is healthy the flyers will win the Stanley Cup.
Steve Bunin (1:20 PM)
Pulsites - great work on Mario Williams! He seems like he's got his head on straight, huh? So who do you think is OVERRATED in this draft?
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
Great game last night to start off there series winning in 2 OT.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
The NHL playoffs started??? How about that......
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Who cares about hockey!!!
The Pulse (1:20 PM)
Wow, and that's from someone in Minnesota.
bryan (wisconsin)
the one true winner during the nhl playoffs is barry melrose because then he gets his 30 seconds of face time each day on sportscenter
Ben (New York)
The Red Wings have such great chemistry. It all starts with Yzerman Shanahan Chelios and Lidstrom
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
No buddy, the Rangers are winning the Sir Stanley Cup.
Pete (Kalamazoo, MI)
Hey Shanny what a game last night!! Wings will win the cup again this year!!
jason(bethpage,new york)
I think the rangers have a chance. They have like the best forwards in the league. I take them but it's hard to say who their against.
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
I am hoping the Rangers- Devils series goes 7 games.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
The Devils will win the Stanley Cup, because Lou Lamarillo is Beezlebub himself. I'm pretty sure everyone in NY and Philly understands how this works. They get all psyched up, then the Devils come in and choke out 4-straight 2-1 wins; Brodeur goes home happy, and Lamarillo goes back to Hell until next fall.
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
NBA playoffs are more exciting then the NHL playoffs.
bill (kansas)
brendan why don't you guys just go back on strike?
The Pulse (1:22 PM)
C'mon now, play nice out there in Kansas.
Ryan Two Egg,Fl
Can Tampa Bay beat the mighty Ottawa Senators . I'm all for a Tampa repeat, but I'm scared of the Senators and Tampa does not get credit for being a good team
Justin H. (Pa)
The Flames are going to win the whole thing.
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
Rangers will win, a confident young goaltender, and an experianced Hall of Fame Vet.
Brandon (Memphis,Tn)
Why don't we talk NBA playoffs
The Pulse (1:23 PM)
Don't worry, Brandon. We've got three hours, we'll hit every topic.
Pete (Kalamazoo, MI)
I don't agree, I think that the first rounds of the NHL playoffs will be much more exciting then the first rounds oif the NBA playoffs
patrick (palmerton, Pa)
the devils will lose in the second round. all they have is their goalie and Gionta, Elias, and gomez.
Brendan (Canada)
The NHL playoffs are the most gruling and exciting playoffs in sport. You already know Detroit and San Antonio are in the finals of the NBA. How exciting is that
Bill (Tulsa, OK)
I'd rather have Ilya Kovalchuk than Dany Heatley
The Pulse (1:25 PM)
But where do they rank with Crosby and Ovechkin?
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
Dany Heatley needs to go to the dentist.
patrick (palmerton, Pa)
Crosby will have a better career with points but ovechkin will have more goals.
Brendan (Canada)
Both rookies are Awesome, they will rule the ice for the next 20 years
Pete (Kalamazoo, MI)
Are Crosby and Ovechkin's teams in the playoffs???
The Pulse (1:27 PM)
Geez, tough critic.
The Pulse (1:28 PM)
All right, last chance, anyone got a question for Shanahan?
Travis (Indiana State)
Brendan, where are you going to work this summer once the NHL season ends being as how the lockout costed most hockey players a majority of their money?
The Pulse (1:28 PM)
I'm guessing that one won't make the cut.
adam (knoxville)
i hate hockey geez
Harrison (Daphne, AL)
Someone needs to just end hockey all together. No one cares about it. But back to the important sports, Reggie Bush will not last 5 years in the NFL.
bryan (wisconsin)
brendan where will the nhl be ten years from now?
The Pulse (1:30 PM)
That's more like it.
The Pulse (1:30 PM)
All right, we've got more NHL playoffs later, but we're talking NBA playoffs next.
Steve Bunin (1:30 PM)
send your N B A questions to G.Anthony, Pulsites!
The Pulse (1:32 PM)
And while you're sending those Q's for G.A., how about the Cavs-Wizards series?
The Pulse (1:32 PM)
How will LeBron's first trip to the NBA playoffs go?
Pete (Kalamazoo)
Hey G.A. I really hate the fact that everyone is picking the Pistons, because the thrive off that underdog roll. Tell Steven A. he should pick against them again!!
Greg (Moorhead, MN)
I can't wait for this Cavs/Wizards game
Tim Kline (Paola, Ks)
The best team in this years NBA western playoffs is gonna be the LA Lakers with Chris Mihm back, they will stop every last thing the suns have?
The Pulse (1:33 PM)
Chris Mihm as the deciding factor? There's a scary thought.
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
Cavs will win the series, LeBron is hungry to win, and the Wiz are to inconsistant.
N1 (stl)
I think he'll have one or two great games but the cavs are newbs in the playoff with him and not very experienced, how many veterans do they have on their team with playoff exp?
Dieter (Gig Harbor, WA)
How will Lebron James respond to the pressure that is on him being in the playoffs for the first time?
The Pulse (1:35 PM)
That's up for debate right now. What's your take, Dieter?
Harrison (Daphne, AL)
Cavs will handle the Wizards. They win in 6.
brent (nyc)
tlarry hughes is going to have a sweet return to washington as the cavs win the series in washington
Jeff (Bishop,CA)
All the great players like MJ and Kobe had sruggles in their first playoffs and thats ehat will happen to LeBron.
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
The kid was on ESPN when he was 17, and he looked fine, he's more mature now. Cavs will win, period
DANIEL (SPRINGFIELD, NJ)
Oh, look Lebron missed a last-minute shot again!!!
Pete (Kalamazoo, MI)
The pressure on LBJ being in the playoffs will be better than the pressure he would be facing already for not making the playoffs like last season!
Stanford (Baltimore)
I think Washington will go to the finals. They beat both cleveland and Detroit in the season series and Gilbert has been playing MVP Basketball.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Does ESPN/ABC/Disney have a couple rappers on the full-time staff?
The Pulse (1:37 PM)
It's actually Beano Cook's side gig.
Miike (Denver)
Cavs will win in seven, but get torched by pistons in second round. Eventually LBJ DWADE and Melo will rule the league
Travis (Indiana State)
Why is everyone so concerned about what Kobie and LeBron are going to do? When they're both gone in two weeks what is everyone going to talk about?
The Pulse (1:38 PM)
Everyone else; we've got to get them in while they're still here.
Dieter (Gig Harbor, WA)
I think LeBron has matured enough to handle the pressure of being in the playoffs for the first time. I think he needs to focus on not rushing his shots, and not be afraid to pass the ball if the Wizards double team him.
Tyler (New Orleans)
Face it he will struggle, but the Cavs will pull it out.
Greg (Moorhead, MN)
Gilbert Arenas is on fire right now, though. I think that the Wizards will strike first, keeping Cleveland worried.
tom* (parkville, md)
Washington's been so inconsistant. I think they can beat any given team on any given day, but I don't think they're capable of taking 4 of 7 from a play-off caliber team.
The Pulse (1:40 PM)
How about the rest of the East? Any other upsets? Bulls? Pacers? Um ... Bucks?
Ben (New York)
There is no way the Pistons lose in the first two rounds this year. Does anyone remember when they were down 3-0 to Orlando a few years ago ?
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
The Bulls have the potential to be a future champ but not this year.
Roman (CALI)
With C. Butler back tho, theres a whole 'nother dimension to the Wizardz.
Tyler (New Orleans)
I like the Bulls. I think theres a great chance they can pull the upset Gordan is on fire, and the heat wo Zo, they could be in trouble
Roman (CALI)
Watch out for the Heat being upset in one of the first two rounds.
Pete (Kalamazoo, MI)
I think the Pacers/Nets series will be a great one maybe going seven games
brent (nyc)
the pacers beat the nets vince carter only has made it past the first round once
Greg (Moorhead, MN)
I believe the Bulls can beat the Heat. The Chicago team is playing well together right now, and will be a lot faster on the court. And don't forget about Chicago's defense.
Travis (Indiana State)
The Pacers were out the day they traded Artest...
jason(bethpage,new york)
None of them. Nets will beat the pacers with carter, kidd, and jefferson. Pistons will beat the bucks (obviously) with b. wallace , r.wallace and chaincey billups
La Roy (Biloxi, MS)
It would be nice if the Bulls could get by the first round, but against the Heat, not this year. They need, just like everyone else, someone to go up against Shck
Roman (CALI)
Its going to be Jersey and Detroit in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
Brent, he's been in Toronto for the past 100 years. Now he's got 2 other stars. Nets win.
The Pulse (1:44 PM)
All right, good stuff. We'll get back to the Western Conference a little later.
The Pulse (1:45 PM)
You saw the poll, and I know a lot of you aren't too eager for another dose of hockey just yet ...
The Pulse (1:46 PM)
So what about it? Do the Wings and Pistons make Detroit the best sports city in the country?
The Pulse (1:46 PM)
Or at least the most successful? Tigers don't look too bad either, with Chris Shelton blasting home runs.
Ari (New York)
NO!! No matter how abd The knicks are. No city is better than NY
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
Athens, Georgia is. The Gym Dawgs just won the national championship. Sorry I could contain myself.
Pete (Kalamazoo, MI)
Hate to sound like a homer, but we do have the best sports city in Detroit..... especially this year :)
N1 (Stl)
Anyone but the wings for the cup, they've won it enough for this lifetime
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Detroit? Best sports city in the country?? Chicago.....
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
It makes a better story than Secaucus, but you know the Devs and Nets will ruin a good story.
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
New York City will forever be the best sports city. Yanks, Giants, Knicks and Rangers. We have 3 championship like teams.
mike (lakewood co)
no if your going to talk allaround sports city it is not detroit remember the lions and the tigers play there as well
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
No city that produced REM and the B-52s can also be the greatest sports city. Sorry.
Alex ((Texas))
Dallas is the sports city. The Mavs, Stars, the boys will get better.
B (California)
LA-- always have teams as contenders in any league in any given season.
Except the NFL ... (1:49 PM)
patrick (palmerton, Pa)
chicago has the world series winners they hve a very good football team and the basketball team is good and ina couple of years they will be great.
La Roy (Biloxi, MS)
All midwest cities are the best, since thy are the small market teams
Johnstone (Bucktown)
LA is the worst sports city in the country....
Johnstone (Bucktown)
White Sox won the Series, Bears made the playoffs, Bulls made the playoffs, Cubs show up.... Best sports City Period.
jason(bethpage,new york)
The advancing teams in the east are nets, cavs, pistons, and heat.
Mark (Louisville, KY)
Can Fransicso Garcia make an impact and help the Kings take down the Spurs?
Ari (New York)
Who is the Pulse? and who do i get that job?
Ari (New York)
Shan you forgot the Redbulls
Ben (New York)
If I'm not mistaken, I think Detroit has the best record for all of their sports teams combines
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
The New York Knicks are terrible. The Yankees are like .500 with a billion dollar payroll, and the Rangers choke job began with about 10 games left in the season.
The Pulse (1:51 PM)
Not a single vote for Boston yet. That's a surprise in SportsNation. Usually lots of Beantown residents in here.
Ryan ((Florida))
Atlanta is a decent sports town. The Falcons , the braves, the thrasher, but exclude the Hawks.
B (California)
Id have to agree with Clint. Without the Yankees, where would you go for some year-to-year contenders.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Boston is definitely in the mix, great fans, kind of scary.....
Steve Bunin (1:52 PM)
Ari - like a lion, you have to be tough to make it to ESPN, I'd say. But it can happen. Study broadcasting at a college somewhere, work your way up the ranks across the USA. Then you just have to fight Dari and me for it. So, who's your playoff UPSET special in the NBA?
Quinn Orlando
Barry, How was the Badger in the NCAA tournament compared to NHL playoff hockey?
Pete (Kalamazoo, MI)
Yeah they have one title in the last 20 years
N1 (Stl)
Noway, the cards are taking them down this year
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Philly would be the best sports city if they could win a championship in anything.
DANIEL (SPRINGFIELD, NJ)
BOSTON RULES! SOMEWHAT!
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
Boston sux.
Travis (Indiana State)
NO! I can't take anymore hockey!
David (Sartell)
Boston Sucks
Brandon (Memphis,Tn)
BOSTON SUCKS I'M A NEW YORK FAN
patrick harrisburg, pennsylvania
When do you think Michael Robinson will go in the draft?
B (California)
Boston has great history. Especially of late. Too bad the Celtics aren't doing what they used to.
Travis (Indiana State)
Green Bay has the most loyal fans...They only have one team and if you want a ticket theres a wait of 60+ years!
Steve Bunin (1:52 PM)
Patrick - we'll ask our expert soon. I have heard 4th round at BEST.
Ryan (Boston,MA)
Boston's the best sports city hands down. Deep roots back to the '50s.
Ben (New York)
I think the most important player in the whole playoffs is Ben Gordon. If he is on fire, the Bulls may be able to win
NJ (DC)
Doesn't this current Heat team remind you of the Lakers team 3 years ago? I mean, both teams both good players, but completely forgot about team chemistry.
Roman (CALI)
Miami was better off last year-- Pat Riley thought that situation out a little too much. Might have lost a team that could actually have beaten Detroit. Now, its a question if they can even beat New Jersey...or even Chicago? Wow.
Kumar (Columbus)
I can see the Wiz getting past Cavs but not the Pistons
Mike (Rochester NY)
what's the best way for the Lakers to beat the Suns? Is Kwame Brown or Lamar the X-Factor?
Ryan (Two Egg,Fl)
I'm going to watch the Mavs sweep the Grizz
Adam (Sacramento)
Lebron won't be able to handle the pressure
Adam (Sacramento)
Wizards in 5.
Ron Artest (Sactown)
I guarantee a first round victory over the Detroit Pistons...I don't care that we don't play them...we can beat anyone.
Chris (Los Angeles)
Chicago will win this series in 6 games....Mark it down!
The Pulse (1:55 PM)
All right, good debate right there.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Boston and Philly are different w/ their sports than NY and DC. There's more hystrionics and desperation.
The Pulse (1:56 PM)
So we're winding up the first hour of the show with Brendan Shanahan.
The Pulse (1:58 PM)
News of the day next, then NFL draft talk!
Ryan ((Two Egg,Fl))
The number 1# pick is Reggie Bush sadly they have Domanick Davis , they will pick him truthly they have no need for him, expect ticket money.
jefe (houston)
what a difference a day makes, once considered a college legend and nowsecond round draft pick...poor vince...shouls he have studied for the wonderlick? at least houstonians wont have to see him much longer on cheezy used car sales commercials
trace (boulder)
pointless to predict, as nobody has any clue what will happen, and there will be draft day trades of monumental significance likely among the saints and texans
The Pulse (2:02 PM)
Uh, isn't the draft entirely about pointless predicitons, Trace?
B (California)
Reggie Bush will have a bigger impact on the game then LT (Chargers) within a few years.
trace (boulder)
having said that, vince young is the best player in the draft, the game has never seen anything like him
Ari (New York)
I think Reggie might slip till the fourth pick. If you look at the board. Mario Williams will go numero uno. The the saints take Ferguson, the Leinart to the Titans and Bush slips to the Jets at 4.
The Pulse (2:02 PM)
Sounds like wishful thinking for a Jets fan ...
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
Im sitting in Teminal C wacthing ESPNews on a Bar TV and I have to read the text, no sound. Thank god my flight was delayed.
The Pulse (2:03 PM)
You should fly Jet Blue, then you could watch us in the air!
La Roy (Biloxi, MS)
Houston is a long way from being a play-off team. Hopefully Bush has a 2 year clause in his contract. It will take Houston at least 3 more losing years to get some decent offensive linemen
Shane Baylis (Louisville)
As a native Houstonian, I think everyone in Houston will wait a few years for Vince Young to develope into a great QB before they ever take Reggie Bush. The Texans have to Draft Vince Young!! Look at the Rose Bowl!!
Scott (Boston)
texans will take bush. they're just talkin to see wut's out there, they're not makin any trades tho. the saints, however, would be stupid not to.
Bob (NorthEast Philadelphia)
How do I email the show?
The Pulse (2:04 PM)
You just did, Bob.
marco (sequim washington)
if the texans pass on vince young they will regret it for years to come
The Pulse (2:05 PM)
Since we seem to be heading that way anyway, make your best case for who the Texans should take No. 1?
Travis (Terre Haute, IN)
Reggie Bush is a big risk given that he is going to cost a ton of money and being as how he's a running back his season could end on any given play.
Jason (Gainesville, FL)
I think Houston should trade the pick and draft o-line as early as possible.
B (California)
Wow. Vince Young isnt even a true pocket passer and you're saying they'll regret it. Cmon. They're the only ones that actually win Super Bowls.
Ari (New York)
Texas should take the safest pick in this draft. Mario Williams. I havent heard any weaknesses about his game and the worst he could be is the Next Julius Peppers. Doesnt sound too bad to me
Ben (New York)
Vince Young is a big game player (Rose Bowls), but with the Texans, there will be no big games during the year
mike ((texas))
Reggie Bush is going to the the #1 pick in the draft. No way the Texans are going to draft any one else
B (California)
Reggie Bush. Hands down. You want a player thats going to do all the little things and have a major impact on your team. He'll create such a buzz for the Texans. They'd never regret it. He's a star and what houston needs is a star.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
The Texans should trade down 3 spots with the Jets, take D'Brick and fix up that offensive line... David Carr will mentally feel better just from that.
trace (boulder)
Vince Young- , physically and athletically, simply the most incredible quarterback prospect the game has ever seen, 6-6 240lbs, rocket arm, eveyone know how the man can run (forget the 40 time, speed on the field is different, and we've seen what VY can do)
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
If the Texans don't take Vince Young they will regret it forever, FOREVER. He is a hometown kid, he wants to play there. The only way they will get to the playoffs is with a big name QB like Young.
The Pulse (2:08 PM)
I'm sensing a lot of Vince Young support in this room. The polls suggest that's a minority view, but you guys are making good cases.
Scott (Boston)
they have to take bush. everybody says they have no need for him cuz they already have davis. in reality, davis is the reason they should take bush. bush can't be a 25-30 carries/game back cuz he's too small and runs to the outside too much, but it's becuz of this that he's a perfect complement to davis. davis bangs it up the middle and bush burns u on the edges. carr can still be a great qb so young doesn't make any sense.
Josh(Colorado)
Houston should trade down a couple spots and draft D'Brickashaw Ferguson...he addresses a need on the offensive line.
Travis (Indiana State)
Whoever takes Bush better not use him 30 times every game or he's is going to get banged up be useless before week eight...
Brett (Allentown, PA)
It has to be Bush, the Texans have already told David Carr that he is their QB, so drafting one would just put that franchise in an even deeper hole. If thats possible.
Shan (Newark Liberty International Airport)
The Pulse, put me on TV, so I can show the bartender in the airport.
The Pulse (2:11 PM)
We'll do our best, Shan. Try and get you a free beverage.
Shane Baylis (Louisville)
We need Vince Young in Houston. Having him play anywhere else will be painful to watch
Ryan (Boston,MA)
If a QB like Michael Robinson was on the Texas team,Would he be talked like Vince Young does?
The Pulse (2:12 PM)
Couldn't you say the same thing about if Brandon Kirsch was on the USC team?
chris (Houston)
Look, it shouldn't even be a debate. Whether or not Bush is the best long term draft pic, or heck, whether he is even necessarily the best running back in the draft may be debatable. But Houston needs a franchisee player. They drafted Carr but he never caught on. And a lot of people in Houston are getting tired of watching losing seasons. Just look how everyone flocks around Bush at USC in the community. He is a PR dream-come-true with how he handles fans and the media. He may not be the smartest pic for pure football reasons, but on a big picture, Houston needs him. Vince Young is good, but he doesn't have the charisma of Bush.
The Pulse (2:13 PM)
That might set a record for longest Pulse post, but it was full of good points.
Jason (Gainesville, FL)
It doesn't have to be Bush. They have to trade the pick. Davis is a great runner, Carr will develop into a great QB. They just need time. No one can produce without protection. The Colts wouldn't put up the numbers they puts up if they didn't have their offensive line. It's very simple. You win up front, you win the game.
Nathan G (Palo Alto,CA)
Reggie Bush may be the number 1 pick, but his lack of size will be a problem with the NFl Linebackers. He may win a few pro bowls at best in the NFL.
Paul (Temecula, CA)
Reggie Bush's game is a lot like Gale Sayers. Dare I say almost exactly?
kyle (kentucky)
the texans dont even need bush. they have a decent running back, they have good wide recievers, david carr is ok. what they need is an o-line and a defense!!!!
Travis (Indiana State)
In the NFL the only that matters to a team and their fans is if you win. If Young goes to Oakland and wins he will be cheered but if he goes to Houston and losses he will be boed just like everybody else.
The Pulse (2:14 PM)
All right, good debate about the top pick.
The Pulse (2:15 PM)
Who is the guy on the draft board who you think is moving up too much? Who is the flavor the week that you think will be a bust?
Austin (Rochester NY)
Jay Cutler
B (California)
Vince Young.
Tim (Springfield,MA)
Vince Young,He's a Brad Smith but with more hype.
Paul (Temecula, CA)
Chad Greenway is rising too much, he needs to drop to 28 to the Jaguars
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
Chad Jackson. Florida WRs are never any good.
Scott (Boston)
antonio cromartie's stock is rising way too quickly. he's coming off an injury-plagued season and there's no reason to think he won't be injury prone in the nfl.
trace (boulder)
most upward movement is deserved... This draft is LOADED
Josh(Colorado)
I will say that Ernie Sims the LB from Florida State will be a bust...I doubt he will be healthy for a full season...ever.
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Maroney needs to go to the Vikings!! Chad Jackson is overrated... All he has is speed.
Jamal (Detroit)
Jay Cutler, no question...
Jordan (Washington, DC)
moving up too much... Winston Justice... Bust will be Vince Young
Patrick (Detroit)
We talk about Bush as the best running back, but what about his teammate the other running back Lendale White. He rushed for more than 1,000 yards.( Just like Bush)But does he get any hype like Bush in this draft. No. But whatever team he lands on is going to be thanking thereselvs in about 2 or 3 years.
The Pulse (2:19 PM)
Todd's talking about that right now, saying he may still be able to stick in the first round.
The Pulse (2:20 PM)
All right., let's flip this around, following the LenDale White post. Who is the guy you think is going to be a big-time sleeper?
The Pulse (2:20 PM)
Either first round or later in the draft?
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
Leonard Pope will be the steal of the first round. He'll be the best tight end in the league in 3 years.
Scott (Boston)
white's not dedicated, as shown by his added weight and bad workouts.
Andrew (Oskosh)
Colts need to go with Brain Calhoun from Wisconsin. Kid is amazing and fits the colts PERFECTLY
Brett (Allentown, PA)
How bout Lendale White? He seemed invincible next to Bush and Leinert, now he's dropped from a possible Philly-14th to a Carolina or a Pittsburgh, or possibly 2nd round.
Jesse A. (Tallahassee)
Max Jean Gillis is a beast and should be picked by the texans in the second round
Bobby (Laconia,NH)
The Running Back From Memp. u someone is going to get a good running back aka. Robert Edwards
The Pulse (2:21 PM)
Interesting comparison. You're right, Edwards was very solid that first year.
Ari (New York)
Brian Calhoun . The kid is sick and will be the next Emmit Smith.
Paul (Temecula, CA)
It's wierd how one injured player might drop to the Steelers at 32 (Lendale White) But the other keeps rising after not playing for a year! (Cromartie)
Scott (Boston)
bobby carpenter, he seems to be 100% recovered from that fiesta bowl injury and i hope the pats take him at #21.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
Kellen Clemens
The Pulse (2:22 PM)
The Oregon QB, good call.
Jason (Gainesville, FL)
Brodie Croyle
Matt (CA)
Deangelo Williams, he looks to be going late in the first round even though most years he would be a top 5 pick.
Jamal (Detroit)
Omar Jacobs, hands down. First of all, dude is from the MAC. You know you can't sleep on any QB from the MAC. He has the protoype QB size, and has a Canon with Accuracy! Whoever gets Omar just got that much better...
49ers (San Francisco)
Michael Huff will be the nect ronnie lott... simply put, he is the best prospect at defensive back in a long time
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Laurence Maroney... He has showed he can split the carries and run for 1000 yards and carry 250+ times in a season and get a 1000 yards... Good size, Breakaway speed, and great vision.. Next E. James maybe?...
Josh (Los Angeles)
Mercedes Lewis, he played both basketball and football his first years at UCLA, and he has great athleticism and great hands.
Dustin R. (Ann Arbor, MI)
Yeah, Does Anyone Remember The Last Glorified Orgeon QB? ...
The Pulse (2:24 PM)
The difference is Clemens isn't glorified. The Ducks have turned out some decent NFL QBs before Akili and Harrington.
Patrick (Detroit)
I say Marcus Vick. He has the arm. He can run. He is the younger brother of a big time quterback. And dont let some legal issues get in the way. This kid can play.
The Pulse (2:24 PM)
Someone had to say it.
Andrew (Oshkosh)
Omar jacobs is amazing. He will be a steal if he lands in the right system. He needs to learn that its OK for him to run once in awhile though instead of always trying to prove he is a passer
Jesse A. Tallahassee, Fl
Lendale White is the next bus (baby bus) and would be a great fit in the pittsburgh steeler organization
Robbie (Temple, New Hampshire)
A.J Hawk could be the next Ray lewis
The Pulse (2:25 PM)
Ok, we'll get back to the draft in a bit. You guys are all over it.
The Pulse (2:26 PM)
But Barry Melrose is on right now as our final hockey guest.
The Pulse (2:26 PM)
So for you NHL fans, aside from Brodeur, which goalie would you trust most in this year's playoffs?
Bob (Northeast, Philadelphia)
I want to ask Barry Melrose a question
The Pulse (2:27 PM)
Send it in, Bob.
Austin (Rochester Ny)
I know nothing about hockey can ya fill me in
Dustin R. (Ann Arbor, MI)
Yes! Mulletime!
Nathan (Delano, MN)
The only one i know... Roloson!
Scott (Boston)
mikka kiprusoff, just look at the season he had this yr. he should win the vezina trophy.
Jason (Gainesville, FL)
Lundqvist
Jordan from Van, Tx
Hey Barry, I think you are underestimating the Colorado Avalanche. Sure, they had an up and down year, but that was filled with injuries. Giving this team a rest before playoffs to get players like Tanguay and Theodore back to par again is adding fuel to the fire. Plus the Avalanche have recalled Wojtek Wolski, a player named as player of the month for 5 straight months in the OHL. Watch Blake and Sakic as well.
Ronak (Patel)
Marty Turco is also in that mix as qwll.
The Pulse (2:28 PM)
You're thinking right along with Barry!
Chris (Maine)
Legace from Detroit
Austin (Rochester Ny)
sabres are gonna win it all man ryan miller who came from the amerks is a beast he can stop anything
Ari (New York)
Hanrik Lundqvist. Hes a proven goalie where it matters, in the olympics. Best goalie in the NHL and will be for years to come.
Brett (Allentown, PA)
Jose Theadore! it's all about goalies in the playoffs. And the AVs need him to come up huge in order to come through in Dalls.
Andrew (Oshkosh)
Chris Mason will be the next JS Giguere and lead the Preds to glory
The Pulse (2:29 PM)
I was wondering when someone would back Mason.
Ronak (Bohemia)
Hey Barry, who is the best rookie in this playoffs??
Austin (Rochester Ny)
RYAN MILLER
marc (los angeles)
i don't trust many linebackers to come into the nfl and be good right away....just doesn't happen...urlacher is the exception
Josh (Los Angeles)
Maurice Drew had an amazing season with UCLA, he will not be an every down runner, but he can do a lot on special teams, and even as a 2nd option running back
Ben (Austin, Texas)
It was great when hockey season was cancelled... it is truly tragic its coverage takes aways from the three sports that really matter
Michael: Mahopac, New York
Will Lundqvist be on his game in the playoffs?
Austin (Rochester Ny)
how can u not think ryan miller
Daniel Romo (Holcomb, KS)
Why doesn't anybody believe in the Sacramento Kings. For the first time they are healthy and three months ago no one even talked about the Kings earning a playoff spot. But I like Artest agree this is thier year.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
Hasek/Emery combo is tough to beat
Bobby (Laconia,NH)
I think Harry Sinden should Retire
The Pulse (2:30 PM)
If Hasek is part of the combo ...
Austin (Rochester Ny)
how can ryan miller not be brought up i mean he was in espn the mag
Bobby (Laconia,NH)
if you have good goltender= playoffs wins and the stanely cup
The Pulse (2:31 PM)
And that about says it all. Good stuff on hockey.
The Pulse (2:33 PM)
We've got Vince Carter up soon, so it's back to the NBA playoffs!
Bobby (Laconia,NH)
booooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Pulse (2:34 PM)
Wow, we're getting booed.
The Pulse (2:35 PM)
What do you all think of the Nets? Are they a sleeper? Do you trust Vince Carter in the playoffs?
jason(bethpage,new york)
speaking of vince he will beat Jermaine o'neal and the pacers
Dustin R. (Ann Arbor, MI)
I Love Vince Carter... Just As Long As He Knows Once He Faces Detroit, Its ELIMINATION TIME!
drew schneider (nyc)
i think they have a good chance to make it to the conference finals
Jeff (Bishop,CA)
Vince Carter is going to step up big time in the playoffs and get the Nets to the Eastern Conference finals.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
If Krstic plays the way he showed he can, they're gonna be tough for anyone to beat. I just want them in Brooklyn already
Austin (Rochester Ny)
how can a 3 seed be a sleeper
The Pulse (2:36 PM)
When they play in the same conference as the Pistons.
Shane (Wabash, Indiana)
I think they are a well balanced team but I hope the pacers can take them out!
Patrick (Detroit)
The Nets will get to the Eastern confrence finals and face the Pistons, but we will have to see what happens their.
B (California)
They are a sleeper but I don't know if I trust them still after that game 7 stuff several years ago with the raptors.
Jamal (Detroit)
No!!!! The Nets are NOT the sleeper. As long as Jason Kidd is at the helm, they'll never win anything....
trace (boulder)
the nets don't constitute as a sleeper, they are very good team, but what happens in the eastern conference (especially pre-conf. finals) is rather inconsequential as the pistons will more than likely get to the NBA champ. series again
jason(bethpage,new york)
Not just vince carter but jason kidd and jefferson too. Jason kidd can shoot carter can dunk and shoot and Jefferson can do the same. Of course a trust vince carter.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Yes. Huge life-long Nets fan. That included a long dark period in the 80s, a brief period when we had young DC and Petro before he died. Then a long, dark 90s till Jason Kidd joined the team.
Nick (St. Johns, MI)
I hope that New Jersey makes the conference finals just so the whole world can see Tayshaun Prince shut down VC
Andrew (aa)
The Nets can beat the Heat but I don't think they can beat the Pistons without an injury to Billups or Ben.
The Pulse (2:40 PM)
Ok, let's talk about the Western Conference while we wait for Vince's segment.
Joseph (Los Angeles, CA)
Why not think of the Kings? Hmmm.....Can you say San Antonio Spurs?
The Pulse (2:41 PM)
Ron Artest (surprise, surprise) says the Kings will beat the Spurs. Is he crazy?
The Pulse (2:41 PM)
Or let me clarify, is he crazy to think the Kings will win this series?
Travis (Indiana State)
The biggest challenge for the Spurs will be the defensive minded Kings...
Nick (St. Johns, MI)
Dallas vs. San Antonio...whoever wins that series is in the finals
Jonah (Alaska)
okay let's do it. The Clippers are going to defear the Nuggets fairly easily and then give the Suns a heap of trouble in the next round!
B (California)
That will cost them a win or two right there. Good job Ron.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Is Ron Artest crazy? Is that a rhetorical question?
Bob (NothEast, Philadelphia)
How can I email the show please help me
The Pulse (2:42 PM)
Bob - You just did, my friend.
Brett (Allentown, PA)
It's only Ron Artest, why do people talk like he's Kobe? The Spurs will be fine in round 1.
Chris (Maine)
Yes, Kings will only win 2 Games and lose the series 4-2.
Travis (Indiana State)
Time Duncan will step up and once again prove that he's the best player on the past 10 years. Yes even better then Shaq.
Jonah (Alaska)
Artest went and done got Duncan mad. Big mistake.
Ron (NY)
No, he isnt because if they got Ron artest in the offseason, they would have gone almost as good as the spurs.
The Pulse (2:44 PM)
How about the rest of the West? Suns-Lakers is getting a lot of attention. Does it deserve it?
Travis (Indiana State)
If Artest would have played all season he would be the MVP hands down and the Kings would be a three seed.
Josh (Sacramento)
Duncan can't get mad. Last game Kenny Thomas held Duncan to 13 points, if Thomas can step up again it will be a great series.
B (California)
Spurs won't make it to the finals. Watch out, Dallas beating em in the second round and then Clippers beat Dallas. Wowzers. The possibilities.
Jonah (Alaska)
The Clippers are dangerous in the playoffs because of their depth and Dari is my favorite anchor because of his hair!
Andrew (Oshkosh)
Sam Cassell will lead the clips to atleast the 2nd round like he does with every team that he joins. His playoff experience is unbelievable
B (California)
Tim Duncan, regardless of how he says he feels, isn't the same timmy. Parker can't take that team to the finals regardless of how many times he gets in the paint. Ginobli has been pretty much a no show this whole year. Sorry San Antonio. No repeat for you this year either.
Jamal (Detroit)
Between Dalls, San Antonio and Phoenix, someone is going out the first round. Take your pick.....
Andrew (aa)
Kobe will score 300 points in that series while losing in 6 games.
Dustin R. (Ann Arbor, Michigan)
Every Playoff Match Deserves Some Attention, Because This Is The Playoffs! Although, The Lakers Just Get A Lot Of Attention Because They Are The Lakers, They Will Lose In The First Round To Phoenix.
The Pulse (2:48 PM)
I really don't understand some people and the shift key.
Jonah (Alaska)
If the Lakers can find a way past the Suns, the Staples Center will be a-rocking and all of the east coast will come a-knockin'.
jason(bethpage,new york)
That game will be good. Suns will win. OK, so kobe can score. So what. Nash will get a bunch of 3-pointers. Marion will get a bunch of points. Hey I have a new nickname for the suns in the playoffs, the brady bunch
joe o (phoenix)
phoenix smokes the lakers all season and nash sits out the last week and lakers win...all of the sudden everyone picks the lakers..i don't get it.
Josh (Los Angeles)
joe; Phoenix won 7 straight before that 'lose'.. Lakers will be lucky to win 1, let alone win the series
Austin (rochester ny)
i see the lakers beating the suns because of there lousy performace down the stretch nash is injured and will not be the same nash in the playoffs
Dominic (Holland MI)
The suns lakers series deserves all of that attention because Kobe can take the suns single handed
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
Suns in 4. Kobe scores 50 ppg.
Brett (Allentown, PA)
good point joe o. I second that
Nick (St. Johns, MI)
how can u say the Suns smoked the lakers all season when Kobe torched em almost every game
Jay (Los Angeles)
Lakers in 6, Series MVP Lamar Odom
The Pulse (2:51 PM)
That might be the biggest upset pick of the playoffs. Not the Lakers winning, but someone other than Kobe winning MVP.
bobby ((san francisco))
no way! the suns are too much of a powerhouse to lose to the one dimensional lakers.
N1 (STL)
Lakers dont have the depth to beat the suns as much it i hate to say the obvious. But I'm glad they're back in the post season. Kobe's going to have some great games, but it will be blaringly obvious they're just first round fodder this year.
Jamal (Detroit)
Lakers in 7 because Kwame, Odom and Smush are all playing excellent ball. That's all Kobe and Phil needed....
Nick (St. Johns, MI)
If Phoenix had Amare the Lakers would have no chance at all..without him however...this will be quite an intersesting series
The Pulse (2:53 PM)
All right, let's finish up the NBA chatter for now with this: If you could pick one player in this year's playoff field to count on in the fourth quarter of a close game ... who is it?
The Pulse (2:54 PM)
Kobe? LeBron? D-Wade? Chauncy? Duncan? Someone else? Let's hear your reasoning.
Prat (Richmond)
Carmelo Anthony
James (Sacramento, CA)
When Kobe is on the team... they always have a chance
Travis (Indiana State)
Everyone seems to be sleeping on Carmello..He's going to be huge in the playoffs.
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
Carmelo is the most clutch player in the league.
Andrew (Oshkosh)
SAM CASSELL. no one is more clutch than him
Austin (rochester ny)
lebron can take whatever team he is on and make them 10x better
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Kobe, I don't like him but Kobe.
Travis (Indiana State)
Ray Allen, he broke the three point record for most threes in a season.
Will (MI)
MR. BIG SHOT
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Robert Horry
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
I don't see how I can't pick Big Shot Bob.
The Pulse (2:56 PM)
Wow, a deluge of votes for Robert Horry!
Jordan (Washington, DC)
Robert Horry is more clutch than Sam Cassell... but let's talk about legit mvp contenders...
Andrew (AA)
Billups he isn't call Mr. Big Shot for nothing.
N1 (STL)
KOBE obviously. He's proven time and again he's clutch. I dont see anyone yet being as great as he is. Carmelo has looked very well down the stretch as well. Then theres Lebron of course but he's still very young.
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
Is Robert Horry still playing? If so, I'd let him shoot it as well.
Brett (Allentown, PA)
Arenas, he has the experience to match the skills.
Patrick (Detroit)
Elton Brand you see what he did with the Clips this year.
James (Sacramento, CA)
Ron Artest has been clunch in the late ever since he came to Sacramento. He closes every quarter with the ball in his hands. He has proven his skill and continues to do so.
Kevin (Illinois)
It's got to be Kobe in the fourth. He has done it before and he will do it again.
Bob (NorthEast, Philadelphia)
I want D.Wade with the ball in a close game he is pretty much money in the clutch
Andrew (Oshkosh)
There is no way I want Lebron with the ball at the end of the game
Prat (Richmond)
Nobody really draws up plays for Horry, he's like a 2nd option in my opinion
Justin (Jupiter, FL)
Carmelo, Kobe may give you big points for the whole game, but, statistically, when his team is down at the end, he dosen't come through
Will (MI)
Melo has been clutch for three months....How about someone who's been doing it for the past three years.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
I think I'd want Lebron taking that shot... they've got to start for him sometime, I think it's this year.
mitchell (charlotte)
robert horry is a clutch shooter. he gets the job done in playoffs. without robert horry, then kobe wouldn't have a ring.
Josh (Los Angeles)
How is Kobe clutch? He has the worst shooting percentage of any of the 'stars' late in the game... His shooting percentage on game winning shots/game tying is horrendous!!
The Pulse (2:58 PM)
Perception is everything.
Nick (St. Johns, MI)
Although my pick is Billups, I don't think you can go wrong with any of these guys at the end of a game
Brian (Washington DC)
The Carmelo argument isn't valid. He hasn't nearly the attempts that Kobe has at the end of games.
The Pulse (2:59 PM)
Wow, excellent stuff. Some really good cases made for a lot of different players.
Andrew (Oshkosh)
Kobe is so overrated in the clutch. sure he has made a ton of big shots, but i GUARANTEE he has missed more last shot attempts than anyone
The Pulse (3:00 PM)
But we're heading into the final hour of The Pulse, so let's shift gears.
The Pulse (3:00 PM)
Speaking of which, Matt Kenseth will be on before the bottom of the hour.
Travis (Indiana State)
The Pulse is almost over and there has not no baseball talk...
The Pulse (3:01 PM)
Don't worry, we've got Buster Olney coming on to talk baseball during the final 30 minutes. We should have some afternoon games wrapping up by then.
Josh (Los Angeles)
Who watches baseball this early in the season when the NBA is still in playoffs? Come on travis..
The Pulse (3:02 PM)
But how about the NFL draft? I'm guessing there is some interest in getting back to that topic ...
Shane (Wabash, Indiana)
how do I ask the guests questions? Do I type in this same box?
The Pulse (3:03 PM)
You got it, Shane.
Travis (Indiana State)
All this playoff talk and draft talk is nothing but a bunch of predictions and guesses...
The Pulse (3:06 PM)
Unlike every other kind of sports talk?
B (California)
C'mon pulse, why we slowing down?
The Pulse (3:06 PM)
We're still here, B.
The Pulse (3:07 PM)
How about the QB derby in the draft?
The Pulse (3:07 PM)
How do you think it WILL play out, and how do you think it SHOULD play out?
The Pulse (3:08 PM)
In the SportsNation mock draft, with more than a million votes recorded so far, Matt Leinart went to the Titans, Young went to the Jets and Cutler went to the Raiders.
Patrick (Nashville)
Cutler is this year's Cade McNown.
Matt (CA)
As much as I don't like him, I think Cutlet will end up as the best.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
I think it'll be Leinart, Young, Cutler, Croyle, Clemens... I think it SHOULD be Cutler, Leinart, Clemens, Croyle, Young.
Nick (St. Johns, MI)
Leinart to Tennessee, Young to New York Jets, thats all most people really care about
Shane (Wabash, Indiana)
I am a Titans fan and I do not want Leinart! I think he will be like Ryan Leaf. Well that and I am a Notre Dame fan. I have rooted against him for years.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
I think that Matt Leinart will end up in Tennessee and blow up under Chow.... Perfect fit.
Daniel (CA)
Matt Leinart should be the first quarterback taken. He's far superior to Vince Young, who has a serious attitude problem and a horrendous throwing motion.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
Why do so many people think Young is going to the Jets? There is no chance at all... The coach and GM didn't even go to his workout
Josh (Los Angeles)
As much as people are claiming Cutler a 'sleeper', he is getting as much hype as Leinart if not more now
Laman (New York City)
I think Cutler would be more productive with the jets and Vince Young would be more productive at the Raiders.
Matt (CA)
It will be...Leinart, Young, Cutler, Clemens, Croyle...it should be...Cutler, Young, Leinart, Clemens, Croyle
Jason (Gainesville, FL)
Young should go to Tennessee. He fits the McNair mold best of the "top" QBs in the draft. Don't forget, McNair took the Titans to the Super Bowl a few years ago. The magic isn't gone from the Music City.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
The safest draft day prediction is that Jets and Giants fans will be mad and voice that displeasure loudly.
The Pulse (3:13 PM)
Very true
The Pulse (3:13 PM)
Someone brought up Marcus Vick earlier. What do you all think? Is he worth a risk? End of the first day? Second day? Not at all?
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Pulse how come when if i type 10 things only one will be put on the computer? I think im giving good comments and Questions!
The Pulse (3:14 PM)
You're right, Nathan, you're sending in good stuff, but we've got thousands of posters doing the same! We're trying, so keep firing away.
Andrew (AA)
Some one will take a chance on him in round 6
Jason (Gainesville, FL)
Early third round.
Jennifer Mathis (Battle Creek, MI)
Sencond day, though possible bust
Johnstone (Bucktown)
If Clarett can go during day 1, anything is a possibility.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
I don't know about Marcus Vick... he's a bit small... someone might step on him... haha
bryan (wisconsin)
he is probably worth the shot on the second day it's not like nfl contracts are guranteed
Josh (Los Angeles)
Any athlete related to Michael Vick is worth the risk
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Vick to the Broncos... 3rd round. They took a chance on Clarett last year and Plummer isnt getting any younger!
Jonah (Alaska)
End of the first day. It only take one team out of 32 to take a huge risk on a young gun like Vick!
Daniel (CA)
Marcus Vick is a complete waste of time. He's already proven that he has serious issues with authority.
Patrick (Nashville)
I think Vick is worth an early second day pick. If it works out, you look brilliant, if it doesn't, no one will hold it against you. And if he holds up a liquor store during training camp...
jason(bethpage,new york)
I am willing to take that chance. Marcus vick is a great QB and can run too. I would love to have marcus on my team
B (California)
2nd Day for Vick. He's got game but he's gotta prove himself in the league before he gets some leverage.
Patrick (Detroit)
We know Vick can run a team. That's a possitive thing about him.
The Pulse (3:17 PM)
Anyone think the Falcons should take him to stash behind Michael and Matt Schaub? An offense geared to his skills and big brother to keep him honest?
Dominic (Holland, Michigan)
Marcus Vick is just as good as Vince Young but no one sees that. MArcus should be a really high draft pick in the draf
Jordan (Clarkston, MI)
I see the last pick of the first day, again, being that troubled player going off the boards, just like Denver did last year. Only this year Pittsburgh taking Vick.
Patrick (Detroit)
Put Marcus Vick on the Falcons. Maybe his older brother can slap some since into him.
Jason (New York City)
That would never happen. But if it does, everyone's team would be the Falcons good or bad.
Shaun (Grand Rapids,MI)
Schaub is a better fit as a QB..He would do well with that Runnign Game
Jordan (Washington, DC)
If they take Vick Jr. they should trade Schaub and pick up some draft picks.
Jordan (Clarkston, MI)
Would make for some interesting storyline down in the A-T-L.
Matt (CA)
I think if Vick goes anywhere, Atlanta would be a good fit.
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
If teams had it to do over Michael Vick wouldn't go number one, and might not go in the top 10. So Marcus probably shouldn't get picked at all, but someone will pick him.
The Pulse (3:19 PM)
Wow, not in the top 10? That's a bold statement. Can't say I agree.
Keith (Blacksburg)
No way, one of his biggest problems is that hes been givin anything by mike, but yet lives in his Shadow, if Marcus is to grow and fill is potential he needs to get away from Micheal
Shane (Wabash, Indiana)
Me either.Clint you don't think that Vick has helped the falcons sell tickets and jerseys?
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
He's not one of the top 20 QBs in the NFL. The only reason the Falcons win is because of their running game and defense when it was healthy.
Sam (virginia)
he's a lot better then most of the qb's coming up for the draft.
Steve Bunin (3:22 PM)
Dari is asking who out there agrees with him and me and wonders if Vince Young is getting overrated in the NFL draft,,,
Joe (North Carolina)
Marcus Vick will be another Woodrow Dantzler, Hines Ward, Randle el type of player. Wide Reciever kick return combo player.
Joe (North Carolina)
Michael Vick is the most talented QB in the NFL. Throwing to Pitiful Price as a number 1 reciever doesn't get you to the big dance.
Patrick (Detroit)
Marcus Vick could be the next Brett Farve. Brett had problems in his first couple of seasons. Brett turned it all around. Maybe Marcus can do the same.
Tony (minneapolis)
Vick would be a great fit in atlanta
Johnstone (Bucktown)
I think The Pulse is on a smoke break.....
Shane (Wabash, Indiana)
Their running game? Is Vick not part of that?
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Shane and Clint, What about getting them to the NFC Championship. Hes the best QB in the game when he plays his game!! Better than Manning and Brady!!
Daniel (CA)
Michael Vick is the most overrated quarterback in the league. He's not good at throwing the ball and is very inaccurate. Sure, he a crowd pleaser and an amazing athelte. I just don't think he will ever lead a team to the Super Bowl as a quarterback.
Patrick (Nashville)
I agree Tomlinson would've gone ahead of Vick if they did the draft over again (funny that those picks were traded), but he still would've been somewhere in the top 10
Steve Bunin (3:23 PM)
Johnstone - what do you mean?!? Neither Dari nor I smoke, and we strongly discourage it in our nation's youth. Stay in school, stay off drugs, kids. And go Zags.
Jordan (Washington, DC)
Ever since the Madden Cover curse, Michael Vick hasn't been the same
Andrew (Oshkosh)
The Milwaukee brewers just put together 4 HRs, 6 hits, and 0 outs in the 4th inning of a game in which we have a no hitter going. I know its not draft related but you gotta give that some props
Nick (St. Johns,MI)
Vick should go somewhere where he can be the #2 or #3 quarterback and come in only to run the option
DJ (Bradford, MA)
I think Vick is still too one dimensional. He is not a pocket passer. He looks to run first. While accurate on the run, he does not throw enough.
Jonah (Alaska)
Ebony and Ivory. Schaub and Ma. Vick backups in ATL? Sounds like a sweet melody!
The Pulse (3:24 PM)
All right, about time to shift to baseball for the final minutes ...
Rod Phily
Vick JR= Maurice Clarett
The Pulse (3:25 PM)
Buster Olney will be here in about 15 minutes.
Andrew (Oshkosh)
Id put money on Vick going top 4 rounds
Andy (Chicago, IL)
Why did someone say that Vince Young has a serious attitude problem? Where did that come from? Sometimes it seems that people get too hung up on these evaluations and forget about on-field performance. Young could be a bust--as could anyone in the draft--but his performance on the football field makes him the best QB prospect in the draft. And I'm not even a Texas fan.
Steve Bunin (3:25 PM)
Andy, I haven't been hearing that at all. Reading defenses, mechanics I've heard, but not attitude. Never. Whoever said that is a moron, and I think you're right. This does get out of control.
The Pulse (3:27 PM)
So anyway, on to baseball ...
Andrew (Oshkosh)
The Brewers added a 5th HR for the inning...and we still got the no hitter!
Jason (Clio, Michigan)
on to baseball, how about those Tigers
Nick (St. Johns,MI)
Your MLB AL Player of the Month- Chris Shelton of the Detroit Tigers
Jordan (Washington, DC)
Are the Mets setting themself up for disappointment like the Nationals and Orioles last year?
The Pulse (3:28 PM)
How about some of the early surprises in the standings? Which teams are for real?
Jordan (Washington, DC)
I think it's still too soon... in a month we'll have a better idea.
Jason (The Swamp)
Is anyone else not surprised by the Yankees' slow start? I still think they will be the best team in baseball by the end of the season, similar to 1998.
Tony (Minneapolis)
The Reds are looking good early on in the season, with there big home run guys.
DJ (Bradford, MA)
The O's fell apart after injuries last year. Well that and the Sox and Yanks turning it up. I think the O's could hang around again this year if the pitching stays healthy
Sam (virginia)
The Indians with no real big names I feel are going to suprise a lot of people down the road.
Sean (Tega Cay)
The White Sox look unbeatable, looks like they will repeat. Brian Anderson is the one weakness on that team
Shaun (Grand Rapids,MI)
The Tigers have a Pitching Stuff jsut asgood as Oakland. With Zumaya and Verlander coming on strong watch out
Jonah (Alaska)
The Dodgers will soon get hot and ride the division escalator to the top and stay there wire-to-wire. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!
Jordan (Clarkston, MI)
I don't think the Mets are for real, but if the chesistry between players actually exists, they are another arm from being contenders all season long.
Chris (Steele,MO)
I think the braves 14 year playoff streak is over unless they make some big deals
bryan (wisconsin)
the mets are for realing with that awesome lineup and wagner closing the doer
The Pulse (3:33 PM)
How about it? Who wins the NL East?
Laman (St. Louis)
THE METS!! For sure. They got the whole package.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
It's hard to bet against the Braves....
DJ (Bradford, MA)
Do the mets wish they had Kazmir instead of Zambrano?
The Pulse (3:34 PM)
Good call, he'd look great in that rotation.
Jason (Clio, Michigan)
I like the Mets in the NL East. Braves win the wild card
Nick (St. Johns,MI)
Braves again...Mets get the Wildcard
Dominic (Holland, Michigan)
THe MEts will win the NL east easily with their Big Bats and and gold glove feilder
Joe (Staten Island New York)
The braves pitching has been stumbling, and without Leo Mazzone they wont top the Mets
Tony (Minneapolis)
I think its the Mets, no question about it.
Jonah (Alaska)
Dari is my wife's favorite anchor by far. DARI, she thinks you're so Cute!
Patrick (Detroit)
Braves make some trades and they can win the division
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Whats up with Johan Santana's slow start? he is 0-3... Was he a 2 year wonder?
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
If the Braves get some bullpen help, then they will win the World Series. They have the best CF in the game, and have starting pitching that is getting better every game.
Jason (The Swamp)
Phillies win the division after the Mets fall apart in July and the Braves don't get above .500 the rest of the season.
Laman (St. Louis)
I agree.
Joe (Staten Island New York)
Is it true that Dontrelle Willis AND Barry Zito may end up on the yankees?
Shane (Wabash, Indiana)
Steve I think you should get a mowhawk!
The Pulse (3:37 PM)
Now there is a sleeper pick.
Steve Bunin (3:38 PM)
Ha - Shane, I think my wife wouldn't be too thrilled with that. And Joe, I think it IS wishful thinking. Yanks are loaded, but not loaded enough to land both of them.
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Dari, I think you have a stalker.
Patrick (Detroit)
The Marlins will win..... If Willis plays every single game.
DJ (Bradford, MA)
I would take Oakland, Anaheim, Boston, Toronto, Cleveland, Chicago and maybe even NY and Minnesotta ahead of any NL team not from St. Louis.
Chris (Missouri)
The Braves are not going to make the playoffs this year!
Clint (Athens, Georgia)
The Mets were thumping the chest earlier in the week, then the Braves beat them 2 out of 3 at Shea.
victor alexandria,la
braves win the title mets wildcard.
Justin(Junction City,Ohio)
I think the indians are a team that doesnt have any big names but have young talent and will become much better throughout the season. What do you guys think about the indians?
Steve Bunin (3:39 PM)
I agree Justin -- I think the Tribe will win the AL Central, I think they can handle both BOS and NY and either LAA or OAK. Tribe could very easily win it all - great pen, great lineup, deep enough rotation...
Adam (State College PA)
someone buy the pirates from mcclatchey, he isnt committed to winning
The Pulse (3:42 PM)
All right, final 15 minutes of the show. What do you all want to finish up with?
The Pulse (3:43 PM)
Buster is saying Clemens may be headed back to the Yankees. What do you all think?
Jonah (Alaska)
DARI monologue!!!!
Joe (Staten Island, New York)
He might, but its too far away
DJ (Bradford, MA)
I think he goes to Boston. He knows the history of the game and he knows what it would me to ride out on a championship in Boston as well as breaking Cy Young's team record for wins.
The Pulse (3:44 PM)
Buster says the Yankees will let him name his price, would Theo and the Sox be willing to match that?
Sean (Tega Cay)
Yankees need all the help they can get when it comes to pitching, even with Clemens they don't have enough
Jason (The Swamp)
I'd love it if Clemens came back to NY. Great fit, even though he kind of betrayed them a few years ago.
brent (ny)
i agree he knows the only team that he won the world series with was the yanks but would the players who thought he abanded them want them back. that is the real question
Andrew (Oshkosh)
Yanks wont make the playoffs WITH or without rocket
Tony (Minneapolis)
He will never go back to the Yankees or anyone at all this season, and for that he will retire.
Michael (Mastic, NY)
Johnson, Clemens, Mussina what a top 3 if he goes to the Yanks.
Joe (Staten Island, New York)
The sox wont because their rotation is great right now
Tony (Minneapolis)
Clemens is not going to pitch for anyone this season, because he will retire.
DJ (Bradford, MA)
I think they would match it for one year.
Dominic (Holland, Michigan)
The Rocket will end up on the Red soxs
The Pulse (3:46 PM)
Although they may be short a starter if David Wells can't return.
Shane (Wabash, Indiana)
I would rather see Clemens in Boston! So he could beat the Yankess!
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Lets finish up by me ask Steve, Why doesnt Laurence Maroney get the same amount of hype that Lendale White gets or Deangalo Williams?!
Andrew (Oshkosh)
those 3 pitchers age is probably higher than most 5 man rotations plus closers ages
Steve Bunin (3:47 PM)
Nathan - b/c he's from Minnesota. No question about it. But NFL scouts know who he is. All the guys I've talked to agree he's a first-round pick, probably in the teens. Maybe as high as 12, no lower than 24.
kc (tulsa)
should the steelers take lendale white or will maroney fall to them like big ben?
Joe (Staten Island, New York)
Thats true, but they are saving a spot for papelbon
Clint (Athens, Ga)
Who will win at UFC 60? Matt Hughes or Royce Gracie?
Matt (Henderson, NC)
Looks like Soriano is starting to get comfrontable in Washington
Garret (Philadelphia, Pa)
The Braves already have 3/4 of their infield on the IR - no way they will tak it from the Mets this year...
Nick (St. Johns,MI)
If Clemens goes to the Yankees, they go to the World Series...If CLemens goes to Boston, the Red Sox go to the World Series
kc (tulsa)
what are the cardinals chances to get it done?
Michael (Mastic, NY)
He comes back either to NY or Houston.
Patrick (Detroit)
He should go to the Astros for one reason. His son plays for Houston.
DJ (Bradford, MA)
Papplebon is not going to start this year. Next year he and John Lester both start and they have the makings of the best young rotation in baseball, better than Oakland in the early 00's.
The Pulse (3:49 PM)
All right, make your closing arguments. Any topic you like ...
The Pulse (3:49 PM)
Your chance to take the soapbox.
Tony (Minneapolis)
Maroney is a top ten pick in my opinion.
Jason (The Swamp)
Chad Jackson will be the steal of the draft. He is fast, strong, and smart. With a weak WR class, he is so money for whoever gets him. GO GATORS!
Patrick (Detroit)
Kevin Harvick does better in the Bush sereis this year then in the Nextel Cup sereis.
Sean (Tega Cay)
Winston Justice will be protecting McNair next year in Baltimore, who will get back to the playoffs
Shane (Wabash, Indiana)
Well Steve and Dari enjoy the rest of your weekend! Talk it over with your wife about the mowhawk, and Dari watch out for your stalker Jonah!
Jonah (Alaska)
Elton Brand has quietly won the MVP award. While Lebron, Kobe, Steve, and Chauncey get all they ESPNEWS hype, Elton will take home the hardware!
Megan (Tustin, CA)
I realize the Angels are not having the best of Aprils. However, they will still win the AL West...there is too much talent there...
Jordan (Washington, DC)
Vince Young shouldn't even be taken in the first round
Andrew (Oshkosh)
Stat of the season: HOMERUNS: Bronson Arroyo 2, Bonds 0
Michael (Mastic, NY)
I think Leinart is overrated. Look how much talent he had around him.
Andrew (Oshkosh)
Kevin Harvick will win tonights race too for the Phoenix Sweep!!
Clint (Athens, Ga)
Andruw Jones will go downas best CF in the history of the game. He plays the field better than anyone, hits for power, leads the team, drives in runs. He got robbed of the MVP last year.
Laman (St. Louis)
I think that LeBron James would win the MVP because he is a team player and he carries his team to winning games. and he is a clutch player and he can shoot the ball inside and outside.
Nick (St. Johns,MI)
The Deroit Pistons will lose only 2 games en route to their 2nd NBA title in 3 years
Adam (Pittsburgh)
The Steelers will get a steal with either, Cromartie, White, or Moss. Then its on to SB win #6!
The Pulse (3:53 PM)
