Chat with Ernie Sims
![]() |
From Scouts, Inc.'s NFL draft bio on Sims: "Sims is an undersized prospect that played the "Sam" linebacker position in college but projects as a "Will" linebacker in the NFL. He has added significant bulk over the course of the last year but he still must continue to get bigger and improve his lower body strength in order to adequately match up in the NFL. However, Sims' speed, athletic ability, instincts and explosive tackling skills are difficult to ignore."
In their latest mock drafts, Mel Kiper has Sims going to the Minnesota Vikings with the No. 17 pick and Scouts, Inc.'s Todd McShay has him going to the Eagles with the No. 14 pick.
Send in your questions now and join Sims on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. ET!

Buzzmaster (3:31 PM)
We're getting Ernie now! Send in those questions.
Buzzmaster (3:31 PM)
He's here!
Drew (Lexington)
Did you struggle with the decision to leave FSU early to enter the draft?
Ernie Sims (3:32 PM)
It was a tough situation. If I stayed an extra year, I think I could have been a top 5 draft pick. But if I stayed, I could have run the risk of getting injured. So, I decided to go.
Chris (Princeton)
Are you looking forward to playing as yourself in Madden 07?
Ernie Sims (3:34 PM)
Yeah, I can't wait. I play Madden all the time.
Mike (Minnapolis)
Hey Ernie, What are you planning on wearing Draft Day, A nice suit? How about a Vikings Jersey. . .?
Ernie Sims (3:35 PM)
That's real funny. I'm just going to chill with my family at home. Hopefully I will be wearing a Minnesota jersey though.
Ashon: San Antonio, TX
Best wishes on draft day, can you explain the past few months for those of us who will never experience it?
Ernie Sims (3:37 PM)
Thanks for the good wishes. The past few months have been crazy. That was real stressful. After that I had a pro day and worked out for the coaches. After the pro day, I had several workouts for coaches and GM. After THAT, I visited 10 teams. The past three weeks, I've been flying everywhere, now I'm just waiting for the draft.
Paul(Illinois)
Hi there Ernie. What teams have shown the most interest in drafting you?
Ernie Sims (3:38 PM)
There have been several teams. Detroit, Arizona, Baltimore, Chicago. The team that would be perfect for me is Tampa Bay. My grandmother and father lives there.
Drew (Lexington)
How excited are you to watch your little brother at FSU next season? Is he better than you were coming out of high school?
Ernie Sims (3:38 PM)
(laughs) I'm real excited to see him gonig to FSU. The thing about him being better, I really don't know. You'll have to ask other people.
Travis, Rapid City
How difficult was it playing against Vernon Davis?
Ernie Sims (3:39 PM)
To me, they've made me cover him a lot because that was their main threat. There was a lot of hype around him and it was a challenge, but I felt I stepped up to the challenge very well.
Jon (Eau Claire, WI)
How are you preparing yourself for the next level of competition?
Ernie Sims (3:40 PM)
Right now, I'm just training and getting ready for the draft and training camp. To get ready, the biggest difference is I want to get in the film room and study more.
Ted C, West Palm Beach, FL
Did you expect to be projected so high when you made your decision to leave FSU early?
Ernie Sims (3:41 PM)
No, my projection they gave me was early second round. After the combine and pro day, I guess I really showed up, I've been moving up the draft boards. I'm excited about that.
Donald Ft.lauderdale Florida
Hey Ernie, love your intensity, what about you playing in a Dolphins uniform?
Ernie Sims (3:42 PM)
That would be great. It would be great, because I would be close to home. I've always watched the Dolphins.
Rex, Austin
Do you work out with your FSU teammates that are going to be drafted?
Ernie Sims (3:42 PM)
No, I haven't been able to work out with them.
Luis (Daytona Bch, FL)
Hi Ernie...What team do you think will draft you ? Are there any LB's in the NFL you look up too? How much of an impact do you see your brother making at FSU?
Ernie Sims (3:43 PM)
Right now, I don't who's going to be drafting me. I'm guessing it's going to be between 9 and 26. Ray Lewis, I really look up to him.
Luis (Miami, FL)
what jersey number would you like to wear in the NFL?
Ernie Sims (3:43 PM)
I would really like to wear No. 34, but that's not giong to work out. I would like to wear 55.
Bill (Chicago)
How great did it feel to beat Miami?
Ernie Sims (3:44 PM)
It felt good. They had a good streak going. It felt good to beat them and shut that streak down.
Steve (Louisiana)
Who is your all-time favorite Florida State football player (besides yourself)?
Ernie Sims (3:45 PM)
I've watched a lot of them and I'd say that Deion was probably my favorite.
Drew (Lexington)
Hey Ernie, hugh fan...I was just wondering what your relationship was like with Bobby Bowden?
Ernie Sims (3:45 PM)
My relationship with him, he really doesn't much to the players. He leaves much of it up to the coaches. My relationship with him was good, because he coached my father, so I knew him from that level.
robert philadelphia,pa
hi ernie sims, which team that has been reported have the most interest in you,the eagles or the browns?
Ernie Sims (3:46 PM)
The Eagles. The Browns I really haven't communicated with them.
Arash (tallahassee, FL)
are you going to miss playing for the seminoles?
Ernie Sims (3:47 PM)
Most definitely. FSU is where my heart is at. That's where I've always wanted to play. Now it's time for me to move on.
Benny (Hudson, WI)
You the man! Do you have any big draft day plans?
Ernie Sims (3:47 PM)
No, not really. Just chill with my family and enjoy the draft.
Thomas (Hamilton NJ)
Hey Ernie, who is your favorite football team?
Ernie Sims (3:48 PM)
I really don't have a favorite NFL team. My favorite team to watch is Tampa Bay and Baltimore. I like watching them play.
Nick (Sioux Falls)
What city would you find it most difficult to play in, (be it team, location, weather, distance from family, etc.?)
Ernie Sims (3:49 PM)
I guess somewhere like Buffalo, because of the cold and snow.
Ernie Sims (3:49 PM)
Thanks for all the questions. Wish me good luck!
