Chat with Mario Williams
![]() |
From Scouts, Inc.'s NFL draft bio on Williams: "Williams is a prototypical looking defensive end prospect with outstanding athletic ability and very good speed for his size. A playmaker versus the run and pass, Williams came on strong during the second half of his junior season and elected to forgo his final season of collegiate eligibility in order to enter the 2006 NFL draft, as a result. He is far from polished and will need to improve his consistency in terms of effort in order to maximize his outstanding physical skills in the NFL. But simply put; Williams possesses more upside than any defensive lineman in this class."
In their latest mock drafts, Mel Kiper has Williams going to the New Orleans Saints with the No. 2 pick and Scouts, Inc.'s Todd McShay has him going to the Green Bay Packers with the No. 5 pick.
Send in your questions now and join Williams on Monday at 2:30 p.m. ET!

Ross Dantini, Raleigh NC
What do you feel is your greatest strength as a football player and what area do you feel you need to improve in?
Mario Williams (2:32 PM)
As far as greatest strength would be my instincts for the game. I have a lot of knowledge of somethings and I'm still young. For my weakness, I would say I need to make sure I hustle on every play.
wolfskeet montreal can
how does it feel to be the talk of the draft with all these qbs are running backs. people are mentioning u more and more.
Mario Williams (2:33 PM)
I guess it's a good thing to be mentioned like that. I don't let it bother me. The whole thing with me is to get drafted, No. 1 or No. 17 and go out and help my team win. It doesn't matter to me.
Shane B. (Trenton, New Jersey)
What is your favorite food?
Mario Williams (2:34 PM)
Pot roast.
Patrick (Pinehurst, NC)
Mario, are you in the know at all about what's going to happen on Saturday, or are you waiting and wondering just like everyone else?
Mario Williams (2:34 PM)
Yeah, I'm just waiting and wondering like everyone else. The business is kind of crazy the week before the draft. You don't know what's going to happen until Saturday.
Chris Martin (Trenton, NJ)
Mario, what QB do you want to sack the most?
Mario Williams (2:35 PM)
Phillip Rivers, a fellow NC State guy.
jasen, denver co
You are such a good athelte, did you ever play high school basketball? Were you good?
Mario Williams (2:35 PM)
Yeah, I did. But I didn't have the love for the game like I did for football. I didn't chase it as much as I did football.
Renegade (Texas)
If you were choosing a quarterback to start your team, which of the big three would you choose?
Mario Williams (2:37 PM)
Hmm. That's a tough one. My personality is to make plays, exciting plays. I'd probably say Vince Young.
Mike Jones (Schuyler, Nebraska)
What NFL team did you watch growing up?
Mario Williams (2:37 PM)
Dallas Cowboys. They had some great players. They were the only ones on TV.
J.T. Cleveland MS
Mario if you couldnt be a pro football player what would you like to do?
Mario Williams (2:38 PM)
If you're saying I didn't have football at all, I'd probably be a state trooper.
James (Raleigh)
Hey Mario, have you ever beaten Manny Lawson in a race?
Mario Williams (2:39 PM)
Yeah, one time during practice. We were running a suicide thing and I beat him. He won't admit it though.
Joe ( Mandeville, Louisiana)
With that first big contract what is the first thing your going to buy?
Mario Williams (2:39 PM)
Buy a house in the city where I'm playing at.
Thomas, NYC
Do you like to hit people?
Mario Williams (2:40 PM)
I guess it comes along with the territory. Yeah, I like to hit people, get a lot contact.
Mike (Niles,Ohio)
With the draft less than a week away, did you buy your suit yet?
Mario Williams (2:41 PM)
Well, I have like three of them. A lot of tailors want to give you one to start off the business then they want you to wear that one to the draft. I've got like three of them coming in.
Kevin (Green Bay, WI)
If you could choose a team to play for what team would it be?
Mario Williams (2:41 PM)
I'd probably say Carolina, because it's here, near home.
Brian (Durham)
Do you have a preference for playing in a 4-3 or a 3-4?
Mario Williams (2:42 PM)
I'll probably say 4-3, because that's what I played here at NC State, but I'll play either one.
Mike: East Lansing, MI
With the draft upcoming, would you compare your game more with Javon Kearse or Julius Peppers?
Mario Williams (2:42 PM)
Julius Peppers.
pat, raliegh nc
are u gonna be taking your scooter w/ u wherever u go, or r u gonna sale/give it away? i'd be interested if you're getting rid of it. also, does Chuck have any rules against them?
Mario Williams (2:43 PM)
(laughs) I'll probably give it away. Obviously, he didn't want anyone to ride it and get hurt. I haven't ridden mine in a while.
David Goldberg (Trenton NJ)
Do you have a food that you like to eat Befor the game?
Mario Williams (2:43 PM)
Roasted chicken and some rice and butter.
Travis (Canada)
Before deciding on N.C State what other campuses did you tour? Was their any big name schools after you!
Mario Williams (2:44 PM)
Tennessee, Ohio State, S. Carolina and Clemson were all interested.
Sohrab, San Jose, Ca
Do you see yourself modeling your play after anyone, if so who?
Mario Williams (2:45 PM)
I take this and that from various players, just to see how they do things. I just go out and play my type of ball. I wouldn't say I copy my game after anyone person. I just play my game.
TD (las Vegas, NV)
u play madden?
Mario Williams (2:45 PM)
I do every now and then when I get a chance to.
Ron (Houston)
Do you think the Texans have been sincere in their talks with you? Or does it seem like they have a different agenda?
Mario Williams (2:46 PM)
I think the talks are sincere, but at the same time, you never know. You never know what someone else is thinking. But I'm not all over it. I'm not falling all over it. I'll just wait and see what happens.
Trevor (Meridian, ID)
which do you prefer? LE or RE?
Mario Williams (2:46 PM)
Left end. I played that in college.
Nick, North Carolina
what are going to most miss about college? I'm going to miss you playin in the N.C. uniform
Mario Williams (2:47 PM)
Probably just hanging around the fellas on the team.
Brian, Auburn NY
would u rather have a four sack game, or an interception return for TD
Mario Williams (2:47 PM)
Interception return for a touchdown.
jon travis, NY NY
what do you think about playin for the jets if you got piked at number 4?
Mario Williams (2:48 PM)
I would be excited to play for whatever team that got me in the NFL. It would be an honor and I'd be excited to play for the Jets.
Travis (Canada)
More fun, being recruited for college or N.F.L?
Mario Williams (2:48 PM)
College, because I got a chance to choose which team I was going to.
Phill (Raleigh)
How do you think the wolfpack Defense will do this year after losing so many players to the NFL?
Mario Williams (2:49 PM)
They'll be young but at the same time, they'll have to pull it together. I can't predict the future as far as what will happen. They'll just have to play as a team.
Travis (NC)
Who was the tuffiest college tackle you played aginst in college?
Mario Williams (2:50 PM)
Alex Baron from Florida State.
Toronto, Canada
How big of an adjustment do you think it will be from playing with NC State in the ACC to the NFL?
Mario Williams (2:51 PM)
I don't think it will be too bad of an adjustment. It will be a challenge, but as long as I study film and learn the ropes of playing in the NFL, I think I'll be fine.
Mario Williams (2:51 PM)
The whole draft process has been an experience, one that I'll never forget. Thanks for all the questions.
