The Pulse (4:26 PM)
It's The Pulse on ESPNEWS, the show where your comments, questions and votes control things. Here's the scoop for Saturday's show ...
The Pulse (7:28 AM)
The big story this morning is the Texans agreeing to terms with Mario Williams and blowing up everyone's mock drafts. So we want your take on what should happen next. Should the Saints pick Reggie Bush? Should the Jets trade up? Did the Texans blow it? Sound off!
The Pulse (7:29 AM)
Mel Kiper, Mort, TJ and Boomer will give their analysis of each pick over on ESPN, but ESPNEWS is the place to get YOUR pick-by-pick analysis on the air! Just send in your comments below as each pick comes in!
The Pulse (9:41 AM)
And for those who don't get excited about the draft, we'll also be talking NBA playoffs. Got thoughts on the Lakers-Suns or other series? Send them in below!
The Pulse (10:32 AM)
And don't forget, we're kicking things off at a special start time today, live on air and in chat at noon ET!
Mr.Murder (One Raider Nation)
Bush and Young are one of a kind talents. Future potential Hall of Famers. They should be the top two taken. Too many Enron types in the front office, their Organization doesn't have football people at key positions, just empty suits.
The Pulse (11:38 AM)
That's what we like on The Pulse: strong opinions! Things are getting interesting in New York, with all sort of rumors flying about teams looking to trade up to No. 2 ...
The Pulse (11:38 AM)
We're about 20 minutes from the show!
Matt (Maine)
What is Houston thinking? Mario is good but Bush is great and he created excitement!
The Pulse (11:39 AM)
How big a move would it be if the Jets snagged Bush via a trade?
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
I'll give you 10:1 odds that Mr. Muder is infront of his computer in silver and black face paint, and for some reason wearing those "road warrior" spike shoulder pads. And possibly a filthy bandana.
Chris in Macon, GA
Often the best defense is a good offense and the Texans really blew it not taking Bush. Reggie could have added a few extra first downs every game for the Texans offense which, of course, keeps the opposing teams' offense on the sidelines and Houston's defense fresher. Bad move to pass on a sure-fire gamechanger for an enigmatic defensive end in the mold of Aundray Bruce.
CW (SYR)
Last 6 Super Bowl winners :Ravens, Pats, Bucs, Steelers. Tell me how great were thier offenses compared to thier Ds.
Deyon in Baton Rouge
The Saints should take Reggie Bush, but they are the Saints so of course they are going to do the opposite. I expect the Saints to trade down and then regret it 5 years from now.
The Pulse (11:48 AM)
We're about 12 minutes from the start of the show, then we'll get this chat going full speed. But keep firing off your analysis!
Ben (Procotr MN)
If the jets got Bush in the trade they would be in heaven they need help.
Terry (Rochester, NY)
I think the Texans did the right thing, it might not be a flashy pick but defense wins championships and at least they realize that and they should be trying to win the super bowl and williams gets them the closest to that. They have a solid offense now they have a solid defense I think they made a decision that was best for their future and not just to get fans to the stadium as a football fan this is a good day for football
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Not taking Bush and taking Williams was a good move... but if they wanted a great move they wouldve takin Ferguson... They need an Oline for Carr and Davis!!!
Archie, Louisiana
Knowing David Carr was sacked 69 times last year, and more times than any other quaterback since he came in the league, why take Mario Williams?
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
I mean, did you SEE the list of the last 6 or 7 DEs taken first? Is there a more sure-fire way to blow the #1 than taking a DE #1? No, there is not.
CW (SYR)
If NO can sqeeze 2 picks out of teh Jets tehy should trade down. At 4 they can get D'brick to solidify the o-line and then draft defense the rest of the way.
The Pulse (11:58 AM)
All right, four hours of fun on The Pulse is ready to begin ... you all ready to offer up your draft analysis?
Kyle (Minnesota)
Can you imagine if the Texans would have taken Bush? They hired Gary Kubiak from the Denver Broncos, who have recently worked with a lot of running backs and turned them into stars, example: Clinton Portis
Ursus (Arkansas)
seems rather obvious to me, why waste a #1 pick on Bush when you don't have the offense lineman that a USC has - build up your defense to give your offense more chances and oppurtunities. Of all their positions, running back is the last one they need to revamp - good pick Texans
AG New Orleans
I agree with CW, defense wins championships, Saints have to many holes on D. Need to definitely trade down and get some more picks. Come on Jets, give us 4 and 29 plus your 3rd this year and a conditional pick next year based on Reggie's rookie year. Saints take LB Hawk, OT Winston and either LBs' Hodge or Jackson. Besides remember what round Willie Parker was drafted in???? Exactly!!!
Jeremy Indiana
The Texans did the right thing, the Saints don't need Bush (Deuce McCallister is proven) The Jets could trade up 2 #2 for the 4th and 29th picks and get Bush, and the Saints could pick up AJ Hawk and some secondary help, which is what they need...
Andrew (Kings Park,NY)
Reggie Bush should be #1 pick. Not sure what the Texans were thing. Stupid.
The Pulse (12:00 PM)
We're live on ESPNEWS and ESPN.com!
Andrew (Kings Park,NY)
Lets get the party started!!!
Kyle (Minnesota)
I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings trade up to a top 5 pick. Their biggest need is at outside LB and although this year has a strong group they would benefit a lot from grabbing A.J. Hawk and they have 4 first day picks, plenty enough to trade up
The Pulse (12:02 PM)
Let's start our debate right there. What should the Saints do with the No. 2 pick and WHY?
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Pulse, Is this show all about the draft?
The Pulse (12:03 PM)
Nope, we'll be following the draft closely all day and using your analysis, but we'll also serve up some breaks from the picks with Andruw Jones, Andy Katz, Bob Baffert and Rusty Wallace.
PL in Atlanta
Wake up guys, Reggie Bush made A TON of plays on his own. It's not about the USC offensive line, it's about Bush one-of-a-kind skills. Willie Parker? Reggie Bush is five times the player fast Willie is.
Mike (Baltimore)
Trade it down if theyre not high on Bush, if they believe all the hype to be real, draft him.
Seth (Reading, PA)
Take Bush. He is the best player in the draft by far. And if they would trade the pick, they better get alot in return.
Andrew (Kings Park, NY)
Saints need to get Bush or trade the pick. The Saints have no good RB.
The Pulse (12:04 PM)
Deuce McAllister isn't any good?
Terry (Rochester, NY)
keep the pick and draft Bush easy call, duece and reggie splitting carries would help that offense out a lot plus duece did have a serious injury so it is a good fit in that offense and help duece out, he is an execlent player but make him even beter by having him carry it less plus Bush is exceptional as a punt returner don't forget
Mike (Baltimore)
He's great, when he's healthy. Bush already knows how to share carries and do other things without stepping on Deuce's toes too much. And you can never have too many feature backs in the NFL these days.
mike (beaumont,ca.)
The aints need to trade the pick, and plug up other areas.
longboy (chicago)
is there a freeagent vet running back houston is looking at
The Pulse (12:07 PM)
Not much left in the free-agent market, but they're not bad off with Domanick Davis.
Ursus (Arkansas)
rrrrrrrrrrright - Reggie Bush is going to realize just what a joke the Defenses in the Pac 10 are when he gets in the NFL....I can't wait to watch him get crushed and cry like Eddie Jones getting smacked by Ray Lewis
Ryan (Portland, OR)
How far will Bush fall, and if he is there, will the Titan's take him over, say, Young or Lienart?
Seth (Reading, PA)
Houston should Select Brian Calhoun with either pick 65 or 66
CW (SYR)
houston has dom davis. one of the better pass catching RBs in the league.
Mike (Baltimore)
Hou should have traded down, to be able to both draft mario and gain more picks, instead of wasting a #1 pick on the #2 player in the draft.
Arun (Tempe)
I couldn't believe the Texans gave Carr all that money a couple months ago ... so this isn't a big surprise, they don't need a RB
The Pulse (12:11 PM)
Would Bush make the Jets instant contenders in the AFC, working in a backfield with Curtis Martin?
Matt (Memphis, TN)
My head tells me the Saints should draft Bush, my heart hopes...for Reggie's sake...that they trade the pick and Bush goes elsewhere. The Texans absolutely shot themselves in the foot here. First they ticked off a large portion of the fanbase by shying away from Vince Young...justifiably I think. But then they go and pass up a future superstar for Mario Williams? The Texans front office should be lined up against a wall and shot for this.
scott (indiana)
it's a waste of the first pick not to take a special player like bush though. A player like this only comes around once in a decade.
Terry (Rochester, NY)
The Jets need a QB who can throw the football to be contenders
CW (SYR)
if pennington can prove he can stay healthy and be productive
Mike (Baltimore)
No one could make the jets instanct contenders, even if they were in the north instead of east.
Andrew (Kings Park,NY)
I think Bush would be positive in helping the Jets provide a better offense.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Dear Drafty Clause,All I wanted for Draftmas was Reggie Bush. Even though I didn't get him, I still believe you exist, no matter what.Little Timmy Texas
The Pulse (12:19 PM)
All right, let's hear how you all think the next four picks will go. Give your teams and the picks, 2-5.
Mike (Baltimore)
I feel bad for mario up there, being boo'd and hearing chants of "over-rated". he's still going to be a great player, it was a bad pick for the texans in my opinion, but thats not on Mario, thats on the texans.
Sean (Ann Arbor, MI)
Houston will regret this day for a long time. A guy like Reggie Bush only comes along every 20-30 years. I hope Texan fans are ready for another season with double digit loses and plenty of empty seats in the stands
CW (SYR)
Jets aren't a bad team by any means. Injuires killed them last season and with the parity in the NFL a player like Bush can put them over the top and make them a threat for to win the AFC East, especially since NE has lost so many players and added very little this offseason.
The Pulse (12:27 PM)
And the Saints take Reggie Bush at No. 2!
Mike Cafarella (Bellmore New York)
The Sanits cant mess this up Busch whould bring so much money to from the fans which the saints really need Busch will help them in all kinds of ways.!
JA Adande (LA)
As a journalist I can see from the Texans point of view where offense is not the only thing that wins championships teams win championships
Steve Bunin (12:29 PM)
Wow - PULSITES - what do you think? I'm not convinced the Saints are holdling on to him. What if they can NOW trade his rights to whoever gets Brick, and add a few 1st-rounders in the future?
Divinehammer (Sharpsburg, PA)
can we get a spell checker Mike?
Mike (Baltimore)
Now lets see if they trade him in 5 minutes.
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
Wow...
Reggie (Orlando)
Reggie Bush. That's a good value pick for the Saints. . .
adam (miami)
smart pcik. Unless the trade offers they were getting offered the whole first round, you cant trade him
Ben (Proctor MN)
thats a releif for reggie and everyone but you knew he was going early
CW (SYR)
guess you can't doubt the saints too much. they did pick duece when they had rocky and that turned out quite well for them.
Mike Cafarella (Bellmore New York)
They chould of got a lot more for 2nd pick Mscallister is fine they chould get go down two picks! This is why a bad team never gets good!
Nathan (Delano, MN)
HORRIBLE pick for the Saints!! They have Duce McAllister!! They have to many needs to get him!
Kyle (Minnesota)
The Saints will trade Reggie Bush to the Jets because they will be able to get D'Brickashaw since the Titans will pick Leinart
Colyn (Olney,Ill)
The TiTans I think will choose Vince Young I mean so what if Norm Chow and Lienert would be reunited Vince Young and teve McNair are friends and he could teach him alot
Mike (Baltimore)
Well all the teams at the bottom of the draft are bad, it's why theyre there and the draft is the most press they will get all year. Too bad they make dumb decisions annually and will be back to the first few picks in the draft for us to mock next year.
The Pulse (12:35 PM)
Vince Young to the Titans!
The Pulse (12:36 PM)
Two questions ... Will VY be a good NFL QB for the Titans?
The Pulse (12:36 PM)
And will the Jets take Leinart, D'Brickashaw or Vernon Davis?
Nathan (Delano, MN)
WOW i didnt think he would go to the Titans!! Matt Leinart is slipping! Is he the next Aaron Rodgers?!
Kyle (Minnesota)
Just because they took him doesn't mean they'll keep him, remember Eli Manning was a Charger until the Giants got the pick they were able to trade
Mike (Baltimore)
Now i feel bad for Bush being stuck in NO haha.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Vince is the real deal. Nobody else sees the field like him. He has never before seen physical upside and is a great leader.
Andrew (Kings park, NY)
Young will need some time but he should turn out to be a star for the Titans.
Kyle (Minnesota)
Reuniting Leinart and Chow would have been the smarter choice. Chow is a coordinator and McNair is another player on the team. Besides with the situation between McNair and the Titans front office, who knows how long McNair will be there
Alex (Iowa)
He can be a gamechanger, and Matt Leinart isn't as electric.
Ben (Proctor MN)
yea VY will be a good qb be they need some one to run in the ball anf not fumble!
Al (Jersey)
Jets take D'Brickshaw and Vince will be a great quarterback for the titans
CW (SYR)
NFL team will figure young out quickly. he doesn't have a cannon so they will stack teh box, spy him (vince will find out NFL backers are much quciker than college ones) and force him to beat them deep which i don't think he can do. i don't think any of these QBs this year will be anything special. leinart will be injury prone and have a short career and cutler will probably be a career backup.
isaac (dallas)
What about Big D?
Reggie (Orlando)
Leinart isn't the next Aaron Rogers. . .he's the next Chad Pennington. . .weak armed and injury prone. . .
Divinehammer (Sharpsburg, PA)
Rodgers never won the Heisman.....Torretta and Ware did however......hmmmmmm
Kyle (Minnesota)
The Jets will take D'Brickashaw Ferguson. They want to trade with the Saints and they signed Drew Brees in the offseason, and have Boo Williams already at TE
Matt (Memphis, TN)
I guess Tennessee is trying to centralize draft stupidity on QBs into the Nashville/Atlanta region. Mike Vick in ATL, and now his clone in Nashville. They've just guaranteed themselves a disaster for the foreseeable future.
Jim (Baton Rouge LA)
Hope he makes it
Patrick (Nashville, TN)
Jets blow it again. They will take Leinart. Terrible pick. Young, Cutler, Croyle, Leinart best QB's in that order.
Dusty (Raleigh, NC)
Too bad Mario Williams will be the Sam Bowie of the NFL
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
Now we get to watch the Jets fan go crazy as they choose a OT and not a QB
Mike Cafarella (Bellmore New York)
Busch Young Lienhart
mike (beaumont,ca.)
My J-E-T-S will make the smart pick in Ferguson.
Ben (Proctor MN)
save the best for last thats matt lineart, let the teams take care of what they need. but in my opinon linart is better then young
Jim (Baton Rouge LA)
Matt Leinart is in trouble
Caleb (MI)
jets take lienart
Mike Cafarella (Bellmore New York)
Lenihart can handle New York he got a lot of attenion in USC i think he is a perfect trick for Jets now get rid of Pennigton!
Ben (Proctor MN)
the only reason they traded eli is because he said he wouldnt play for the chargers just like elway
tom (nj)
vince may be better than leinart in the nfl, but how is he going to fit into norm chow's offense? might take him a few years
Alex:(concord):
Who will panthers take? I hope Maroney.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
boooo! booooo!
Nathan (Delano, MN)
40 mins down alot to go... Wow these first 3 picks have flown by!
The Pulse (12:47 PM)
Jets pass on Leinart for Brick at No. 4!
Mike Cafarella (Bellmore New York)
Stupid Choice
Mike (Baltimore)
smart pick
Adam (miami)
Should i jump on the Leinart Haters bandwagon with the rest of the pulsites?
Alex
Vince will be great. Jets-Ferguson!
The Pulse (12:48 PM)
Ok, make your best case for the Jets making a good choice or a bad choice.
Arun (Tempe)
If the Jets pass on Leinart, does he go to GB?
Kenny Crawford (cincinnati, Ohio)
This decision will haunt the Titans when Young is the next Andre Ware and Lienart is Tom brady.
Ted (Boston,MA)
Jets take D'Brickashaw,Jets fans will boo themselves out of the building.
Mike (Baltimore)
If he turns out to be a 10 year solid player, thats smarter than risking a boom or bust pick in leinart
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Oh, that hurts. It makes sense from a team perspective, but Jets fans will be ticked for awhile. What's Greenie saying right now?
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Wait, they're not saying boo, they're saying boo-urns!
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Leinart is probably a little embarrased, but lets' face it...the longer this goes, the better team he ends up on. Long-term it's probably a win for him.
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
Leinart will fall far in the draft now. Wow
Kyle (Minnesota)
Since the Packers and 49ers probably won't take him, i can see Leinart in a Raiders uni this season
Dusty (Raleigh, NC)
Good pick. Maybe if he keeps Pennington on his feet, Pennington won't be in the ICU this year.
jwright (st joe)
i dont know about you guys, but it sounded like i heard cheers for the brick.......
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Leinert's delivery is flawed- he floats passes. On any other team he'd be a second day pick.
Colyn (Olney,Ill)
Jets made the right choice you need a line to have a good QB anyway
Mike (Baltimore)
GB wont waste 2 first round picks in back to back years on QBs, theyre not the redskins or lions (in respect to their 3 consecutive WR first rounders)
Travis (Indiana State)
Here comes AJ Hawk....
CW (SYR)
franchise LTs are hard to find. d'brick is supposed to be the most sure thing in all of the draft and he went right where he should have. solid pick for the jets.
Matt (Memphis, TN)
4 picks so far...and 3 teams have absolutely screwed up. Does anyone in this league know what they're doing? I suspect Tagliabue is having a hard time keeping a straight face right now. Since he's retiring soon...do you expect him to start criticizing stupid picks? What are they gonna do...fire him?
Divinehammer (Sharpsburg, PA)
The Brick will play longer, go to more Pro Bowls and have more sucess than anyone picked above him. Winning football starts with the line.....doesn't matter who you have in the backfield.
chauncey (teaneck)
it was a bad pick because the Jets need a QB even more then an ot.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
D'Brickishaw is a cornerstone. He plays like a Reggie White who pancakes pass rushers instead of quarterbacks. He needs inside techniquer work but now teams cannot overload the strong side and the Jets can count on the pocket being strong fromt he weakside.
Ben (Proctor MN)
of course the packers are going to take lineart farve is going going gone
The Pulse (1:00 PM)
But instead, they take A.J. Hawk at No. 5.
The Pulse (1:00 PM)
How about the irony of the 49ers having to pass on Leinart, who they probably wanted No. 1 overall last year?
Johnstone (Bucktown)
AJ Hawk is a great pick.... 2nd best LB in the nation last year.
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Well, there goes cro-magnon 'backer. Man, AJ fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.
Kyle (Minnesota)
It sounds like the Raiders aren't very interested in Leinart, so i would have to say he'll be a Cardinal. Detroit would also be possible but they signed Jon Kitna and Josh McCown in the offseason. Denny Green will take Leinart and build a Super Bowl winner
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Without Whitner covering his back AJ Hawk is two down material. He vanished on coverage to his side at times.
Reggie (Orlando)
Ah, AJ Hawk. . .the next Andy Katzenmoyer. . .
Kirk
Leinart, should be happy he just might stay in Cail (Oakland). But is that a good thing?
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Good call Reggie
Ted (Boston,MA)
Leinart is thinking to himself,Why didn't I declare last year? Huge $$$ difference.
CW (SYR)
so vernon davis to SF followed by the first pick of the draft that is really up in the air. OAK always makes thing interesting. somethig tells me ernie sims or jimmy williams since al davis loves speed.
vick (fort worth)
Matt Leinart will probably end up with the Raiders because they need someone to back up Aaron Brooks.
Arun (Tempe)
Good for Davis! He'll be the man in the NFL!
Mike (Baltimore)
The next franchise TE is now being drafted
Mike (Baltimore)
Paul: And with the 7th pick the Oakland Raiders select... Marcus Vick- what the!!? lol
Jason ((Custer, SD))
The Raiders have Andrew Walter to back up Brooks. They don't need Leinart.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Niners have to expand choices over the middle- Alex SMith's arm cannot use the depp portions of the field. An over the middle target to balance focus on teammate Johnson is crucial. WIll they go Gibbs one back and use Davis like the Broncs used Sharpe to h-back, motion, slot? Of course they will.
Patrick (Nashville, TN)
Leave it to Al Davis. Leinart stays in Cali and disappears into the Davis darkness.
The Pulse (1:09 PM)
Anyone want to make a case for the Raiders taking Cutler or someone other than Leinart?
Evan (Colorado)
Where will Leinart go?? I hope not with the raiders....
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Just Draft, Baby!
Andy (NYC)
It's gonna be Cutler. Al Davis likes the Jeff George / Kerry Collins big arm / big ego guys. They could also take Michael Huff with Woodson gone, they could use some DB / S help.
Terry (Rochester, NY)
Al davis doesn't like lefty QB's he might take a shot with Cutler and surprise peoplle
Brian (New York)
Cutler throwing to Randy.....hmmm....Sounds interesting
Jason (Custer, SD)
Anything is better than Kerry Collins. He led the league in touchdown passes....to the other team.
The Pulse (1:11 PM)
They've got Aaron Brooks now, not sure that's any better though ...
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Raiders need a force in the middle of the D line... Either Buckly or the guy from Oregon should get takin. Ageing Sapp and no Washington anymore!!
Mike (Baltimore)
I hope Lienart falls far enough for the Browns to take him, so Ngati will be there for the Ravens
Reggie (Orlando)
I NEED Cutler to slide to the Vikings. . .I'm not very comfortable with an aging Brad Johnson, Mike McMahan and J.T. O'Sullivan. . .and by *not comfortable* I mean, I'm terrified!
Jason (Custer, SD)
I'd like to see them take Michael Huff or Ernie Sims. They need some more speed on defense. Any bozo (besides Kerry Collins) should be able to throw it to Randy Moss, Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry.
vick (fort worth)
Jay Cutler played better talent than Leinart or Young, didnt win many games but played in the best football conference in football. He is a good football player and will prove it.
The Pulse (1:15 PM)
Raiders take Michael Huff at No. 8!
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Aaron Brooks is the NFL's Jeckle and Hyde. One step forward and two steps back every game with him.
vick (fort worth)
It doesnt matter the Raiders will not be a factor in the AFC or in there division so it really doesnt matter who the Raiders select. Even having Randy Moss doesnt matter the Raiders need help any way possible.BAD BAD football team.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
There it is. Huff is for real. Raiders always draft defensive backs from Texas, it's part of the team legacy. Lester Hayes and Vann McElroy. Huff is a student of the game, he loves the film room and prectice. He has amazing recognition and instinct, great discipline in his run gaps.
Reggie (Orlando)
Detroit can't be happy about that pick. . .
Johnstone (Bucktown)
Wait do you hear that??? I think I hear Leinarts heart pounding.....
Andy (NYC)
With the 8th pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select Jay Cutler, QB, Vanderbilt
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Mike huff loves the filmroom, where CHarles Woodson was absent or slept. Huff's leadership and study of the game are intangibles. He makes teammates better.
tom* (parkville, md)
There goes Detroit's pick. There'll probably trade down to 13 or 17 now.
vick (fort worth)
The Bills aint selecting no QB. The GM will get fired if he does.
robb (amherst)
Leinart will go to Arizona, warner will get his arm ripped off week 2 and Leinart will lead the cardinals to the superbowl
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Good God, is Cutler's mom colorblind? I think that dress is made from draperies she stole from Graceland.
Saad (Baltimore)
As a ravens fan i am hopeful that Leinart will fall to the 13th pick. Keep yuor fingers crossed!
Steve Bunin (1:21 PM)
Pulsites - BRICK may be the safest pick. Take a look at OL going in the 1st rd in the last 10 yrs2003 Jordan Gross Panthers 8th2002 Mike Williams Bills 4th2002 Bryant McKinnie Vikings 7th2002 Levi Jones Bengals 10th2001 Leonard Davis Cardinals 2nd2000 Chris Samuels Redskins 3rd<<1998 Kyle Turley Saints 7th1997 Orlando Pace Rams 1st<<1997 Walter Jones Seahawks 6th<<1996 Jonathan Ogden Ravens 4th<<1996 Willie Anderson Bengals 10th<<1995 Tony Boselli Jaguars 2th<<1993 William Roaf Saints 8th<<1993 Lincoln Kennedy Falcons 9th<<<
Nathan (Delano, MN)
Andy, Have you heard of J.P. Losman? It was his first year last year. Theyll give him one more try!!
Jason (Custer, SD)
The bills will take Nagata or Bunkley
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Huff was the Vince Young of the Texas defense. Hope we can snag the TE from their program later...
KENNY (CINCINNATI)
NO WAY BILLS TAKE CUTLER, WHATS WRONG WITH ANDY IN NY?
ALFRED (CALIFORNIA)
DUDE THE SAINTS WILL BE COMING TO LA SOON SO THIS MEANS WE WILL HAVE REGGIE BUSH BACK IN TOWN......
Jason (Custer, SD)
Buffalo has Losman...they aren't picking a QB.
Steve Bunin (1:22 PM)
BTW -- (>>) meant that guy got to a Pro Bowl
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
Detriot picks needs a WR.. oh wait my bad
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
I love it when the experts are wrong.
The Pulse (1:26 PM)
Wow, the first huge surprise. Donte Whitner goes to Buffalo at No. 8
The Pulse (1:26 PM)
You wonder if they would have taken him over Huff, or did they scramble when the DB went off the board?
Kyle (Minnesota)
WOW Donte Whitner was not expecting that
Jason (Custer, SD)
Wow there is the first curve ball!
Vinod (Blackfoot,ID)
DONTE WHITNER?!?!?
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
REACH!!!!!!!!!
Jeff (PatriotNation)
now we're scared....
Mr.Murder (One Raider Nation)
Yeah. great pick. WHitner had the best burst on the ball of anyone. great in covering Aj Hawk's liabilities. He made his teammates better. Like Huff he's big on practice and study in film room. Great pick.
Arun (Tempe)
was hoping he would slide to 23!!!He is awesome
Nathan (Delano, MN)
No one saw that coming... Donte Whitner?
Adam (Miami)
Can you say dumb move? Why wouldnt they trade down to like 14 or so, and then take Whitner? They took a 12-18 pick, with the 8 pick!
Jason (Custer, SD)
A safety at No. 8? This isn't Ed Reed we're taking about here!
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Hey Pulse, 6 of the first 9 were suprises!
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
Are you kidding me.. Whitner
Mr.Murder (One Raider Nation)
Whitner made the Ohio D, as part of a unit that only allowed 74 yards a carry on the ground. He picked off Young in their contest. Big game and big play ability, exlpodes on the ball and hits hard.
Adam (Manchester NH)
1 Season as a starter, Buffalo must enjoy the basement.
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Jesus, someone take the phone away from Marv Levy please!
Willie (KC)
Does anybody wonder why the Bills are always a mediocre team? A 5'10 safety this high in the draft, thats absurd
The Pulse (1:33 PM)
And the Lions pass on Leinart, taking Ernie Sims, LB, FSU ...
The Pulse (1:33 PM)
Now the Cardinals have their choice of Leinart or Cutler ..
Kirk (Warrenton VA)
Enrie Sims hits hard. Really hard.
Andy (NYC)
Ernie "Advil" Sims.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Someone hand the Lions fans some aspirin. They have bigger headaches than ernie Sims.
Ron (NY)
Ernie Sims, good pick, was under the radar for the last month.
Jason (Custer, SD)
The "oft-concussed" Ernie Sims
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Figures. After the Harrington fiasco it'll be a cold day in Hell (Detroit) before they draft a QB with their first pick again.
Jason (Custer, SD)
Arizona has to take Leinart or Cutler don't they? Warner's goatee gets grayer by the minute.
adam (baldwinpark californa)
the raiders should of got matt liner because aron broks is ok but we nedd another quater back
Adam (Chicago)
I'm a pretty casual fan, but it's not everyday that you see a player you've never heard of like Whitner in the NFL draft top 10!
The Pulse (1:36 PM)
And the Cardinals take Leinart at No. 10.
The Pulse (1:36 PM)
What do you think? Perfect fit for him with two great wideouts and Edgerrin James?
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Christmas comes early for Dennis Green.
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Arizona with the STEAL of the draft.
tom (nj)
Leinart in warm-weather Arizona with plenty of offensive talent. He'll do real well once warner gets hurt.
CW (SYR)
leinert walks into a great situation. probably the best for him. with edge, anquan and fitz he is loaded with weapons
vick (fort worth)
thats a good pick. Matt Leinart needs good talent around him to be succussful. He has The Edge and Two Beasts at receiver. Good Choice Cards.
Andy (NYC)
Arizona has their own Chad Pennington. Congrats
tom (nj)
Leinart lost some money today, but he goes to a perfect situation with edge and those wr's
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Yes that's a great fit. He'll get some PT this year too. And I'm betting this means Cutler to the Rams.
Kirk (Warrenton VA)
Wow, they jumped all over Leinart, I would have at least considered Cutler.
Kyle (Minnesota)
Leinart and Edge, WRs Boldin and Fitzgerald. Now all they need is a good D and they can make a run
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Look out NFC West! Here come the Cards!
Reggie (Orlando)
Looks like Denny is building the Vikings West. . .Great offense with Edge, Fitz, Boldin et. al. and a horrible D.
Aaron (Winchester, VA)
Great pick for Arizona...Dennis Green will sleep well tonight.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Jeez...new stadium, new RB, new QB...is the desert fraud, bill bidwell, coming to life? is his son running the show now or what?
Andy (NYC)
St. Lou's gotta go with Cutler here. Bulger is oft-injured, new coach, new direction... take Jay.
Mike (Baltimore)
He made a mistake by staying in college, he would have been in a much better situation in SF, being the 1st overall, than he is currently in
The Pulse (1:44 PM)
Better financial situation, but you can't argue with the offensive weapons for Arizona vs. San Francisco.
Matt (Memphis, TN)
I grew up in STL when the football Cards were still there. I've watched the Bidwell family make more stupid decisions than I really care to think about. My question: what happened? Has someone killed them all off and just not reported it?
vick (fort worth)
Arizona needs a defense also. They cant stop nobody. Arizona are a couple players away from going to the playoffs.
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Arizona is going to be The Greatest Show on Sand!
Nick (Milwaukee, WI )
Great pick for Arizona. I was so hoping Detroit didnt pick him. I think all these teams passing on him was a mistake and I didn't want to see him smoke us two times a year five years down the road!!
Brian (L.A. Cali)
Boldin and Fitzgerald just smiled big time, and Edge will make that offense click
Mike (Baltimore)
Well keep in mind that Davis is now in SF thanks to this draft now. Davis is named "Oh My God" for a reason.
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
San Francisco is NEVER a better situation.
tom (nj)
Leinart lost money today, but he'll have a much better nfl career now that he's in arizona and not in san fran
The Pulse (1:47 PM)
Anyone want to lay odds that Leinart's second contract is worth a lot more than Alex Smith's second contract?
The Pulse (1:47 PM)
Broncos trade up for Jay Cutler.
Dustin (Houston)
Finally a trade.
mitchell (charlotte)
broncos get cutler now
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Cutler is going to Denver.
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
The most overrated player in the draft
Bryan ((Des Moines))
wow, jay cutler to the broncos, how soon before Plummer loses his job?
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Oh snap! That's a curve and a half!
CW (SYR)
wow! cutler to DEN? even more surprising than whitner to BUF
The Pulse (1:48 PM)
What's your analysis of Cutler as a prospect, and of Denver's move to trade up to get him?
The Pulse (1:48 PM)
Good move? Bad move? How long will it take him to supplant Plummer?
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Goodbye Grizzly Adams...I mean Snake...I mean Jake.
Jason (Custer, SD)
It's about time they gave up on Jake Plummer
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
someone put some clippers to that mop, please.
Mike (Baltimore)
cutler has a great Oline, so as soon as plummer goes down or loses his job, cutler will be protected enough to make smart decisions.
Matt (Memphis, TN)
IMO Cutler's a hell of a talent. He needs to sit and watch for a year, and he'll be good to go. This is a steal on Denver's part and will prove out over time to have been a very wise choice.
Pat (Locks, CT)
Denver really wanted a QB, this probably means that either Santonio Holmes or Chad Jackson will slip a bit as the Broncos were projected to take a WR.
CW (SYR)
cutler will never supplant plummer. he will be tommy maddox v2
vick (fort worth)
Cutler going to the Broncos. That makes hime a winner instantly because hes going to a winning team and could go the playoffs in his first year and get experience under Jake the Snake. Wow!!!
The Pulse (1:51 PM)
Dare we say ... the next Ben Roethlisberger going to a winning team?
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Pretty solid pick. Plummer will be a starter for 2 more years...then Cutler will take over. Broncos have a solid team, so they can afford to develop a QB.
Andy (NYC)
Love the Cutler move. He's a bit of a project but Jake is not a long-term solution and he is CLEARLY the best player left on the board. Great move (again) by Denver.
Pat (Locks, CT)
While Cutler is overrated, he's still a solid QB and a perfect fit for Denver
chauncey (teaneck)
he will take plummers job next in two years or whenever plummer starts to strugle.
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Cutler's no Elway, but he'll put Denver back in the Super Bowl.
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Good call Pulse (re: Roethlisberger).
Adam (Manchester NH)
terms of the deal?
The Pulse (1:54 PM)
Sounds like the 15 and a third-round pick?
Kyle (Minnesota)
The next Roethlisberger will be Leinart, he's going into a better situation. Even though they had a losing record last year Arizona has more weapons and Cutler will probably have to sit out a year or so before Plummer gives up the reigns
Alex (Long Island, NY)
I think Cutler was a great pick for Denver. With Plummer to maybe guide him a bit before he takes over.
The Pulse (1:56 PM)
Hey, we've got Jay Cutler live next, anyone have a question for him?
The Pulse (1:59 PM)
All right, good stuff rolling in, we'll see if we can slip one in. Lots of people waiting to interview him ...
The Pulse (2:01 PM)
All right, sorry, Cutler had to cut out to talk to everyone else. But we're rolling on with the draft.
Mike (Baltimore)
Well this draft is full of material for Cold Pizza, Around the Horn and PTI on monday
The Pulse (2:01 PM)
And the Browns take Haloti Ngata.
The Pulse (2:02 PM)
Oops, Ravens.
Mike (Baltimore)
No, the Ravens did
The Pulse (2:02 PM)
That's the big body Ray Lewis was complaining he didn't have in front of him.
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Thats one heck of a scrabble score!
Mike (Baltimore)
Im satisfied with this pick, but im not sure how i like the idea of giving up picks for him
Ben (Oregon)
I am a season ticket holder for the Oregon Ducks and Haloti is the real deal. He has everything you need, he is very fast for his size, his only knock is he sometimes takes plays off, but he still dominates.
CW (SYR)
ray lewis is gonna love ngata chewing up blockers.
Ben (Oregon)
He can plug up the hole better than anyone in the draft and I've seen him hit more passes down than anyone in years.
Mike (Baltimore)
But the thing is, we lost a guy of his size to the panthers in free agency, so we are right back to where we were last year
Matt (Memphis, TN)
Ray-Ray is satisfied. Of course, Ray-Ray is also kind of an old man. Whether this will actually help Ray-Ray out is up for debate.
Don (Wichita, Kansas)
No complaints by Ray Lewis about this pick I bet
CJ (Flint)
Yeah, just like that guy Joey from Oregon..
Andy (NYC)
The Browns must love this. They get a pick from their arch-rival and still get Bunkley. Genius.
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
So why would they make a trade if they were only one pick behind. Were the Browns going to take Haloti?
Alex (Brooklyn)
Browns should select Santanio Holmes someone that'll lead their team.
Pat (Locks, CT)
Ngata was a very good possibilty for the Browns, as he's a very good prospect as a 3-4 NT, hope that answers your question Mike.
Alex (Brooklyn)
Who are these Donte Whitner, Ernie Sims guys? Pick Chad Jackson!!!!!!
The Pulse (2:09 PM)
Alex thinks it's Chad Jackson, but who else can you all makes cases for as the best player on the board right now?
Mike (Baltimore)
Wasnt bunkley supposed to go 5 picks ago?
Panther_Fan (Naples)
Nobody else. It is Chad. No questions asked.
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Bunkley...an absolute beast!
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
DeAngelo Williams would help out the Browns "running game".
Pat (Locks, CT)
BPA? DeAngelo Williams. He's a stud RB who's stock has dropped simply because of the lack of a RB need for many teams in the draft.
Patrick (Tennessee)
Dallas will take Jason Allen (CB/S) from Tennessee. If his hip recovers fully, this will be a huge pick for big D.
tom* (parkville, md)
I'd have trouble passing on Winston Justice.
The Pulse (2:13 PM)
Or getting around Winston Justice ...
Kirk (Warrenton,Va)
I think Bunkley would be better pick for the Browns. His size and strength would be something that team needs on defense.
Jason (Custer, SD)
Santonio Holmes will go before Jackson.
Andy (NYC)
It's Bunkley or Jimmy Williams. Two studs, one head case.
Ben (Oregon)
The best player left is Kellen Clemens!!! Kidding no Oregon bias here, I'd say Jackson by far.
vick (fort worth)
Players have to fit a system to be succussful most of the time. If Chad Jackson goes to a team that already have receivers in place or a team that like running he might not be as succussful.
Alex (Brooklyn)
Who will the Browns pick...pray.....oh my God...Kamerion Wimbley. Huh?
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Browns go Defense
Alex (Brooklyn)
At least Philly is not picking Marcus Vick you have to say, after that T.O. extravaganza.
Kyle (Minnesota)
Philly needs a receiver but i'll bet it'll be Santonio Holmes, and not Chad Jackson
Saad (Baltimore)
wut? they need to work on offense dont they already have a pass rusher McGinist
The Pulse (2:17 PM)
Anyone else like or dislike the Wimbley pick for Cleveland?
Panther_Fan (Naples)
Didnt they just get a new D-Line last offseasaon?????
Zach (Iowa)
They should have taken Greenway. I cant think of any of their defense much less their linebackers
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
we expected them to pick Dmaybe not that particular name, Crennel is the man with the plan, so this move must be part of that.
CW (SYR)
browns have andra davis at LB. he is pretty darn good
victor alexandria,la
i think they should had taken wimbley for later.
Andy (NYC)
Willie McGinest is about 80 years old. If past drafts have taught the Browns anything, it's to have a little patience with your front four (the Denver D-line says hello). Wimbley is a great pick, just give him a year or two.
The Pulse (2:20 PM)
Wow, McGinest and Ray Lewis getting called out in this chat as old men ...
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Some one tell the Browns that yes, defense does win championships, but you really do need some offense!
Mike (Baltimore)
Phil Savage is just trying to make Cleveland have the success baltimore did, and Batimore drafted DE Boulware ~5 years before they won the superbowl.
Kyle (Minnesota)
The Browns should have improved their O-line instead of their D-line
Eric (Bowers, PA)
I like the Wimbley picka lot. I hope Winston Justice falls to my Dolphins at #16!
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Ray Lewis deserves to be called out. He is not the MJ of the NFL. He's delusional.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
no one here would tell ricky manning jr. that..
Kyle (Minnesota)
The Browns don't have a year to wait for Wimbley, they'll be expected to produce this season now that the Bengals have shown they can win
vick (fort worth)
Chad Jackson fits Philly system Perfectly. Philly likes to throw the ball and Chad is a big receiver and a big target for McNabb to throw to, and then throw in Westbrook man thats a good offense.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
ok philly..get yer batteries ready...
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
I hear boo birds already? Must be Philly's turn to pick.
Andy (NYC)
Philly will take Tye Hill or Justice. They can't gamble with a paper tiger like Chad Jackson.
Pat (Locks, CT)
Philly will take Bunkley! Didn't you hear they were trying to trade up to get him. Why would they pass on him now.
Alex (Brooklyn)
If you really look at it, for SUCH a long time the draft has been the BIGGEST thing around, why is everyone failing to make the right pick, oh well Matt Hasselbeck Steve Smith and Heinz Ward were all picked late in the draft.
The Pulse (2:24 PM)
Alex has been studiously watching the ESPN draft ads ...
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Philly needs to give Mcnabb a weapon but it isn't a big part of their draft history to add value with high picks there. they also need another back, with some coaching changes maybe they decide to add running balance to the offense again.
Panther_Fan (Naples)
Philly needs Chad. They a lot more help, but they can get that in later rounds.
Jason (Ohio)
Holmes is the best receiver in the draft if another receiver goes before him it will be a mistake
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Bunkley should not be on the board. He's got a bigger motor than Ngata...and more talent.
Aaron (Kansas City)
Has to be Bunkley, they just have to be happy they didn't have to trade up
Steve Bunin (2:25 PM)
Pulsites -- who's the best guy left on the board? LenDale? DeAngelo? Greenway?
Eric (Bowers, PA)
If Philly takes Bunkley, then would the Rams take Greenway with #15? Tye Hill?
Andy (NYC)
The WRs in this draft may be the worst ever while the DB crop is one of the deepest. Grab the best player on the board: Tye Hill, Jon Joseph or Cromartie.
The Pulse (2:29 PM)
And Bunkley goes to the Eagles, lot of folks in here were right ...
Alex (Brooklyn)
If teams knew that Matt Leinart would fall all the way down to a team in their division like San Francisco with Arizona why didn't they just pick them!!!!!!!! That way you don't just give them the prospect!!!!
Adam (Chicago)
Hey, I'm in Europe right now and so to figure out who's getting taken, I'm down to the sportsnation home page and the ESPN draft tracker. The draft Tracker stinks right now so can we get "the pulse" to say every time someone is drafted or traded?
Steve Bunin (2:30 PM)
Adam - we're here for you. 1. Houston -- Mario Williams, de, NC State 2. New Orleans -- Reggie Bush, rb, Southern California 3. Tennessee -- Vince Young, qb, Texas 4. NY Jets -- D'Brickashaw Ferguson, ot, Virginia 5. Green Bay -- A.J. Hawk, lb, Ohio State 6. San Francisco -- Vernon Davis, te, Maryland 7. Oakland -- Michael Huff, db, Texas 8. Buffalo -- Donte Whitner, s, Ohio State 9. Detroit -- Ernie Sims, lb, Florida State10. Arizona -- Matt Leinart, qb, Southern California11. Denver from St. Louis -- Jay Cutler, qb, Vanderbilt12. Baltimore from Cleveland -- Haloti Ngata, dt, Oregon13. Cleveland from Baltimore -- Kamerion Wimbley, de, Florida State14. Philadelphia -- Brodrick Bunkley, dt, Florida State
Adam (Chicago)
Thanks alot pulsemaster!
The Pulse (2:31 PM)
That was Steve Bunin, live from the set, Adam.
Pat (Locks, CT)
The Rams are an interesting team to pick for. Both CB and LB are still big needs, so you have to figure the pick is going to be Chad Greenway or Tye Hill/Antonio Cromartie
neil (Cherry Hill, NJ)
rams will take tye hill because they need help on passing defense because they lost adam archuleta so they need tye hill
The Pulse (2:32 PM)
Good call, Neil sent that before the pick and it turned out correct. Rams take Hill.
The Pulse (2:32 PM)
And we're nearly through the first half of the first round ...
Ford (Lansing,MI)
I am surprised that the draft has moved along so quickly at this point with minimal teams moving up in the draft
Kyle (Minnesota)
Philly made a bad move taking Bunkley, they need a WR and by the time they get to pick again, the top 3 (Chad Jackson, Santonio Holmes, Sinorice Moss) will all be gone and this year isn't very strong at the position
Alex (Brooklyn)
Eagles picked Bunkley, is he a WR? I can't believe this was the team that was in the SUPER BOWL a couple of years ago!!!!
Kirk (Warrenton Va)
The Rams have young corners and they aren't any good they should have traded this pick or drafted a DE.
Eric (Bowers, PA)
I I think the eagles' sites should now be focused not on the rest of the draft, but on Jevon Walker!
Andy (NYC)
Miami should grab Chad Greenway or Bobby Carpenter to learn from--and eventually replace--the old guard there.
Michael (Derby, KS)
The rams drafting Tye Hill is a good move. The rams need all the help they can get in the secondary.
Jason (Ruston)
How do people who think Bunkley is a WR get posted and others don't
The Pulse (2:38 PM)
They don't, Jason. They were being sarcastic.
Ryan ((Baltimore))
Eagles should have taken chad jackson or winston justice, they made a big mistake
Jason (Ruston, LA)
Saben is not big on LB's, and don't be surprised if they go for a WR. I mean you did get Dante for a reason
Tyler (Florida)
Bunkley was a steal, another Corey Simon type player for the Eagles out of FSU
Doug (EP TX)
Cromartie will stay home in FLA
Pat (Locks, CT)
I think Miami is going to take Chad Jackson. Saban still has that SEC love in him.
Aaron (Kansas City)
Eagle's fans should be ecstatic about the tandem of Kearse, Bunkley and Patterson. Makes Lewis, Sheppard, Brown, and Dawkins almost impossible to get away from.
Ryan (Baltimore)
I dont know why every one is talkig about Chad Greenway and Bobby Carpenter, What happened to D'Qwell Jackson, he led the ACC in tackles and is an amazing prospect
Reggie (Orlando)
Cromartie played in exactly ONE college football game. . .talk about a high risk pick. . .
Pat (Locks, CT)
D'Qwell is a MLB, and that makes a difference in some people's eyes. He's easily the best ILB prospect in the draft though.
neil (Cherry Hill, NJ)
miami will take chad greenway or chad jackson becasue their linebackers are getting old and they need some good recievers for culpepper
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Miami needs a linebacker. Zach Thomas wont be around forever.
Andy (NYC)
It's never good when you see your team's reps thumbing through the draft media guide prior to a pick.
Tyler (Florida)
Reggie---Cromartie started one game, played in many more...lacks experience but best talent and upside among DB in the draft in my opinion. Has size and speed.
The Pulse (2:44 PM)
Jason Allen to the Dolphins ...
neil (Cherry Hill, NJ)
wow no one guessed jason allen ... what a shocker.
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
uhh...that's the wrong SEC player, Saban.
Pat (Locks, CT)
Well, like I said Saban will stay in the SEC, just the wrong position.
Panther_Fan (Naples)
WHOA! That was a surprise!
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
WHo does Allen know? Way overrated. His shuttle didn't look tha good off his injury. Straight line speed doesn't a safety make.
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
called that one
Alex (Brooklyn)
Jason Allen? I have to stop watching this.
CW (SYR)
ugh, terrible pick. hip injuries are tough, even moreso since DB need to be able to turn thier hips to be effective in coverage.
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
That straight line speed will be great for kickoff coverage...which is all Allen will ever be good for.
vick (fort worth)
Thats a good pick. Nick Saban is a defensive minded coach a he will make Jason Allen fit good defense in Sout Florida.
Andy (NYC)
Allen is very solid. A safe pick for a team that needs some youth on D at almost every position.
Alex (Brooklyn)
This is the most overrated and stupidest draft ever, now I have to sit 8 hours until Sinorice Moss Chad Jackson Santanio Holmes are selected.
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Jason Allen! Wow, maybe they'll get their money back in hip parts. Although Deon Grant, also from UT came back from a hip injury and did just fine.
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
Nick Saben was looking for a db before entering the draft because he dosent like his current secondary
Ben (Proctor MN)
in my opinion allen is not that good i can think of at least 3 people better
Shane (Wabash,In)
Wow! We have a lot of wanna-be GMs in the chat today. Stick to your factory jobs!
Eric (Bowers, PA)
a 4.41 sec. 40 is looking bad after a hip injury?
neil (Cherry Hill, NJ)
clearly minesota will pick DeAngelo because they needa better runningback no matter what and DeAngelo is the guy theyre looking for.
Kyle (Minnesota)
Vikes are in a tough spot. With Greenway and Chad Jackson both still on the board, which position do they address? I say they take Greenway and in the second round either hope Sinorice Moss falls or take Maurice Stovall
Kenny (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Us here at Bengal headquarters are licking our chops!! Cromartie is gonna fall right into our laps!!
Panther_Fan (Naples)
Minnesota will take Croyle. Well, they should at least.
Mike (Yokohoma Japan by way of Texas)
Nobody is hitting Allen during that 4.4
Pat & Jeremy (Wheaton, Illinois)
Who do you think the Chicago Bears should take in the 2006 draft? Some say OLB Demarco Ryans, others say TE - Lenard Pope or Mercedes Lewis. What do you think guys?
Cody (Hampton, TN)
Vikings get a QB?
Andy (NYC)
Shane, you're here.
The Pulse (2:52 PM)
In the first round? Wow, that's sort of a reach.
Andy (NYC)
Finally, the eminently overrated Chad Jackson may come off the board here. That is, if the vikes can get their pick in on time.
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
Ok so there goes another person the experts had tabbed for Cincy. Who Dey looking for now?
Jeff (MN)
Who will the Vikings take?
Aaron (Kansas City)
Vike's will probably go with DeAngelo, best player available.
Ryan (Baltimore)
Who do you think will be first, D'Angelo, Maroney, or White. I think it should be D'angelo
Shane (Wabash,In)
What guests are left for today?
The Pulse (2:53 PM)
We've got Jason Allen ready to talk to us about being picked by the Dolphins.
CW (SYR)
hey shane, part of the fun of the draft is criticsizing pick. it can be quite cathartic.
Kyle (Minnesota)
Vikings will take Croyle but not until the second round, he'll still be there at no.48
tom* (parkville, md)
Some of these GMs may need factory jobs soon.
Doug (EP TX)
Minnesota- Where do you start? So many holes to fill. AHA!Line of Scrimmage!Justice may be served! Winston Style.
Pat (Locks, CT)
I think the Vikes will take Chad Greenway, remember they signed Chester Taylor, and they still have Ciatrick Fason.
Kyle (Minnesota)
If the Vikes take a RB, they take Maroney who is a fan fave here in MN and who is used to the Metrodome
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
If it's a RB, it has to be D'Angelo.
Jeff (MN)
Great pick MN, Greenway is good!
The Pulse (2:55 PM)
Yep, Vikings stick with defense and tab Greenway.
The Pulse (2:55 PM)
Lots of good offense is slipping on the board ...
CW (SYR)
vikes probably would have preferred ernie sims but greenway is a nice onsolation for them. solid pick by the vikes.
Reggie (Orlando)
Greenway is a good pick. The Vikings needed LB help bad. They can get a QB with one of their 2nd round picks. . .either Croyle or Cleamons. . .
vick (fort worth)
That was a good pick. They need help on defense and they took a quality player in Greenway. He should help a struggling defense.
Kyle (Minnesota)
Vikings make a great move here with Greenway, not just in terms of personnel but also with Public Relations. Iowa where Greenway comes from is a Vikings fanbase
Tony, Atwater Ca
Who do you think the Patriots will draft at No. 21. Do you think they will draft a running back?
Ford (Lansing,MI)
Tenn. defense was underrated this year, and I feel this was a safe pick for Miami
Saad (Baltimore)
Is Chad Jackson even going to go in the 1st round?
Jay (CA)
is it just me or is Mel Kiper trying to do his best Barry Melrose impression with the hair....
Kenny (Cincinnati, Ohio)
And it appears that the Patriots may luck into getting DeAngelo Williams!!
Alex (Brooklyn)
Okay they chose Greenway, (yawn) (sucking teeth) not going to complain "Okay" pick considering this crazy extravaganza.
Doug (EP TX)
Dallas needs some blocking up front. With a "mobile" QB like Bledsoe, Who needs blocking? Winston is a must!
Pat (Locks, CT)
Any chance the Cowboys take Jimmy Williams as a Safety? I know he has been labeled to have character issues, but Parcells and Jones have proved that talent comes before character in their eyes. See T.O.
Brandon (Minnesota)
The Vikings should have taken WR Chad Jackson Because Nate Burleson is no longer with the team.
Jeff (MN)
As far as WR, Santonio Holmes will go before Jackson, even Sincore Moss may be better.
CW (SYR)
jackson and holmes will probably go back to back to SD and KC
Andy (NYC)
TO and Jimmy Williams on the same team? That's like putting Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis on the same team...
The Pulse (3:02 PM)
Winston Justice, Chad Jackson, Santonio Holmnes, DeAngelo Williams, Laurence Maroney, LenDale White, Sinorice Moss ... lots of offense,
Ted (Boston,MA)
DeAnglo Williams better go to the Patriots,Dillions get old to carry much of the load.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Winston would do Tuna's line right for leading runs on right handed play action for Drew. Still he signed some tackle help already and may have a true impact OLB higher on his charts. He needs a Carl Banks to play off Ware's LT- and Lawson fits the bill at this point.
Kyle (Minnesota)
The Vikes wait until the second round and get whoever is available. Sinorice Moss might drop and even if he doesn't Maurice Stovall will be
Jeff (MN)
The Vikes don't need a wideout, they have Robinson squared, williamson, and taylor!
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Sinorce Moss is overrated. Being the brother of Santana does NOT mean he's just as talented. Sinorce is only a return man.
Pat (Locks, CT)
Sinorice Moss is the most overrated player in the draft in my opinion. Honestly, would he be getting the hype if his brother didn't have a great year last year??
The Pulse (3:03 PM)
Alabama and Connecticut thinking alike ... see what wonders the Pulse can work?
Mark (San Diego)
The Cowboys would love to have Justice in this spot.. Nice value for the pick
Andy (NYC)
CW, I agree 100%. I see the next four picks going Justice, Holmes, Jackson and DeAngelo.
Kenny (Cincinnati, Ohio)
How bout a Chad Johnson/Chad Jackson combo in Cincinnati!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Pulse (3:04 PM)
What about T.J. Housmandzadeh?
Emery (Gatlinburg TN)
With all the high scoring offenses last year, no wonder everyone is going defense.
The Pulse (3:05 PM)
Bobby Carpenter gets the call from Parcells and the Cowboys.
The Pulse (3:05 PM)
A lot of people thought he was a Parcells kind of guy at LB.
Jeff (MN)
who is bobby carpenter?!?!
The Pulse (3:06 PM)
C'mon, Jeff, you're in Big Ten country, you ought to know the Buckeye.
Panther_Fan (Naples)
Tisk, Tisk, Tisk Dallas. You just wasted a nice opportunity.
CW (SYR)
even if he is it is still a bit of a reach. probably would have been netter off trying to trade down to get him later in the first
Kyle (Minnesota)
Surprised Carpenter is even a first-rounder, Parcells must have seen something in him nobody else did
Ford (Lansing,MI)
The same Buckeye that broke his ankle on the first play against Michigan last year
Sean (Tega Cay)
Carpenter over Lawson? Thought the Cowboys would go Justice
Kirk (Warrenton ,Va)
Yeah, Dallas screwed up. O not D
vick (fort worth)
Bobby Carpenter is a solid LB who is big and can help our defense instantly. Hes a nice pick because we have the second round to get a offensive lineman. Winston Justice wouldnt have been a good pick, he wouldnt have played anyway, Carpenter will play right away. We can address needs in the second round.
mike (beaumont,ca.)
Overrated Winston Justice will land with SD!
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
That was a Tuna pick. Good kid who hustled through, was disciplined, played team ball. Carpenter and Whitner hewlped make Hawk look so good. Hope his injury sees through to full speed. He may have shed some weight to help that concern.
Pat (Locks, CT)
Do we finally see a WR go here? Or Winston Justice? To me, it comes down to whether or not the Chargers think Vincent Jackson is the future at WR...
Doug (EP TX)
Sinorice should be rearranged properly to "Is No Rice", as in Jerry. 2nd round stretch at best. 3rd or 4th in all reality. Please leave all "small" talk out until later rounds.
Kyle (Long Island)
Cowboys had to go defensivly and i think either Lawson or Carpetner would of been good
Brandon (Minnesota)
The Chargers should take Sinorice Moss because Phillip Rivers needs more targets besides Antonio Gates.
The Pulse (3:12 PM)
Wow, Sinorice as the first WR picked?
The Pulse (3:13 PM)
That would be a surprise.
Pete (Albany, NY)
Sinorice Moss will not be the first WR taken...Santonio Holmes!
Kyle (Minnesota)
Chargers and Chiefs will pass on Winston Justice, but he may go to the Patriots with the 21st pick
Pat (Locks, CT)
Don't get me started on Sinorice again...
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Think the CHiefs look close to Lawson coming up if they don't get VT's Williams. Herm needs some D and Hall is their version of Sinorice on offense at this time...
Pete (Albany, NY)
Chargers will take a DB...that pass defense needs help.
The Pulse (3:14 PM)
The same may hold true for the Chiefs.
Mike (Baltimore)
Well this would be the draft to have Sinorice drafted first, its been a wacky draft!
Andy (NYC)
Sinorice would be the perfect fit as 1st WR off the board because it would show just how awful the WR crop is in this draft.
Pat (Locks, CT)
Good point Pete, Cromartie is another great option for San Diego, or even Jimmy Williams.
Kyle (Long Island)
Chargers i think would go with Jimmy Williams or either Kelly Jennings
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
As for the CHargers, they have a retunr man already(Sproles) and are more likely to go with beef. Their OL needs upgrade and could put uspide on LT's amazing ability. Imagine upgrading Ladanian's output!
Brandon (Minnesota)
This draft is all defense.
The Pulse (3:19 PM)
So Cromartie to the Chargers ...
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Cromartie has one less tackle last season than his idol Neon Deion did in his last year with the Redskins...
Sean (Tega Cay)
Best pick of the draft so far. He will be a superstar. Good for the Chargers, they get the game changer in that secondary that they need
Pat (Locks, CT)
Good pick by San Diego, i like Cromartie he can be a star there(Mel Kiper voice)
Panther_Fan (Naples)
OMG these GM's are all on something
Nick (Rutgers, NJ)
the draft is all defense because the league has become so offense oriented...finally balancing out...there are no holes on offense for most teams...
mark (san diego)
I know they had secondary issues but i thought Cromartie was a bit of a reach here.
jacob (south carolina)
cromartie is an excellent pick. He is big and physical in the secondary and can play WR too. (Keenan Mccardell is old)
The Pulse (3:22 PM)
I wouldn't count on him contributing much on offense.
Sean (Tega Cay)
Cromartie would have been top 5 if healthy, or top 5 in 07, and has the most talent in this class. He also has great work ethic. Florida State coaches have said he will be the best DB to ever come out of there. Not a reach IMO
Kirk (Warrenton, Va)
This just goes to show that the teams at the top will remain at the top. Memo to GMs you need to score points too to win.
Pat (Locks, CT)
I guarantee you if Cromartie went back to school and stayed healthy, he'd be a Top 10 pick, hands down.
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
So, apparently the combine is more important than actual playing ability in college. GMs are focused too much on paper than game film.
Andy (NYC)
San Diego didn't exactly have trouble scoring last year. They did have trouble defending the deep ball however.
Kirk (Warrenton, Va)
Cromartie is a second rounder, too many injuries and why get another soft corner like Jammer?
Kyle (Long Island)
Cromartie is a huge reach...San Diego should of gone Jimmy Williams or Kelly Jennings
Emery (Gatlinburg,TN)
I'm just happy the Bengals didnt have the chance to gamble on him.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Well KC was looking at Cromartie and Williams. Defense is their need let's see if it stays so.
Rick (NJ)
May we talk Chiefs here for a minute? . .
The Pulse (3:27 PM)
Go for it
Kyle (Long Island)
The way this draft is going its going perfectly for the Jets since Marooney or White or Williams hasnt been taken maybe the Jets may get a RB to help Martin
Trevor (TX)
WHAT??? Tamba Hali???
The Pulse (3:29 PM)
Wow, somewhat surprising pick with Hali.
Sean (Tega Cay)
Surprising pick, DE instead of CB.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
HAHAHA C-h-e-f chefs chefs chefs.
Kyle (Long Island)
Yes but i think Hali is underated and i think he would help the Cheifs in divison this year
Emery (Gatlinburg,TN)
Hey Pulse, whats the score between O picks and D picks.
The Pulse (3:30 PM)
It's a rout at this point, defense is on a run.
Aaron (Kansas City)
Would've liked "Kiwi" but thats not a bad pick.
CW (SYR)
not a great pick for KC but not bad either. i honestly don't know what to think about hali.
Tony (Georgia)
Never heard of him!
The Pulse (3:30 PM)
Huh?
Kyle (Minnesota)
Given this draft the Tamba Hali pick isn't that strange
tom* (parkville, md)
Every pick since Jay Cutler has been a defensive player.
Kyle (Long Island)
Im thinking the Pats would stop this defensive run by choosing Chad Jackson
The Pulse (3:32 PM)
Or could they be tempted by one of the cornerbacks still out there? Jimmy Williams or Jennings?
Nick (Rutgers, NJ)
NE is going with DeAngelo Williams.....calling it right now
Andy (NYC)
Hali and Kiwanuka are gonna be studs. Huge motors and they'll learn technique the technique necessary to make difference a la Dwight Freeney
Mark (San Diego)
Pats looking to upgrade from the Matt Light/Brandon Gorin Line here?
Pat (Locks, CT)
Pats, Manny Lawson. Someone has to fill the whole left by Willie McGinnest.
The Pulse (3:33 PM)
Well, someone is going to be right, because I think we've covered every possible option.
tom* (parkville, md)
Yep, Kyle, Pats will pick a receiver here.
Andy (NYC)
The Pats are alwasy the contrarians. They're just as likely to chose Brody Croyle or Ryan LaCasse as they are DeAngelo or Lawson.
Sean (Tega Cay)
I hope Jimmy Williams gets drafted soon, being a Raven fan, I do not want to see him go the Bengals
NYJetFan51 (Cresskill, NJ)
No, the Pats don't need Williams they got Cory Dillon.
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
No way Jimmy Williams goes to NE. They don't want his character issues.
Pat (Locks, CT)
No, the Pats are going to take a team first player. I know I said Lawson before, but now I think it's going to be DeAngelo Williams. It won't be Justice, as he has some minor character issues as well.
The Pulse (3:39 PM)
Here's the pick ...
The Pulse (3:39 PM)
Laurence Maroney!
The Pulse (3:40 PM)
DeAngelo slips behind Maroney among running backs.
Ryan (Portland, OR)
Maroney, what the heck, they don't need a RB, Dillion is there.
The Pulse (3:40 PM)
Dillon isn't getting any younger though.
CW (SYR)
maroney over williams, eh? don't know about that one.
Ted (Boston,MA)
I'm happy Maroney,I guess but i'd rather have Williams.
Nick (Rutgers, NJ)
Right position..wrong player...still close though
Andy (NYC)
Dang. Shoulda been DeAngelo. The Jets will take DW and he'll make them pay
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
And a swing and a miss...should have taken DeAngelo. Maroney is soft in short yardage situations.
Kirk (Warrenton VA)
What? Maroney! What? Who?
Pat (Locks, CT)
NO! I wanted Maroney for the Jaguars! I guess it came down to personal opinion with the Pats as the majority of the country thinks DeAngelo is a better RB and prospect.
Adam (Manchester NH)
Dillon is washed upDid you see him last year...no... thats cause he was hurt again
aron (gainesville, fl)
laurence maroney is a great pick for NE is this situation.
Emery (Gatlinburg,TN)
Maroney! Thats bologna! DeAngelo got hurt by his Conf-USA ties I bet.
Pat (Locks, CT)
Hey Andy, DeAngelo won't be around for the Jets. The Panthers or Jags will take him.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Dillon slowed measurably, all those carries the past few year caught up to him. Mauroney isn't know as a pass catch back but he runs downhill. Has to watch staying upright for ball control and health reasons.
Nick (Rutgers, NJ)
local papers had my Giants looking at Moroney as a replacement to Tiki in a year or two (he wants to retire after winning the super bowl this year or next)...now maybe Deangelo??
Shane (Wabash,In)
I was leaning towards Williams but I think Maroney will learn a lot from Dillon and fit right in the Pats system
Reggie (Orlando)
I watched this guy for 2 years. He's a fantastic pick! He's quick with great hands. My only problem with him is that he had problems running up the middle. . .
Aaron (Kansas City)
Manny Lawson could replace Peterson here for the 49ers.
Sean (Tega Cay)
49ers have made two good picks
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Lawson was a solid pick.
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Manny Lawson is a good athlete, nice measurables.
The Pulse (3:46 PM)
Is that our fist use of ''measurables'' today? Nice.
Vik (Fort Myers, FL)
GREAT pick by San Fran, I can't beleive he fell to them. Lason will be an impact player on D.
The Pulse (3:47 PM)
So the 49ers get their offense with Vernon Davis and defense with Manny Lawson.
mitchell (charlotte)
the 49ers should have taken jimmy williams
Mr.Murder ((One Raider Nation))
Tampa should draft to its strengths and go for defense. Will they consider O line instead? Remember Chucky is a player's coach, these guys other let go for character concerns, he looks at that as motivational challenge...
Brandon (Tuscaloosa, AL)
No one wants Jimmy Williams. He's this year's Pacman Jones. Too much trouble
Emery (Gatlinburg,TN)
Nice first day for S.F. and its not even half way through.
The Pulse (3:50 PM)
All right, the draft will roll on, but we're winding down on the Pulse, so I'm going to flip this over to the NFL Draftcast chat. You guys will bring a lot of knowledge to those guys.
The Pulse (3:50 PM)
Nice work in here today.
