At 18, Coleman, who is often called "video game boy" because he used racing video games to hone his skills, won his first ARCA race in just his sixth start. In addition to the win, he also owns five top five finishes and two poles. In his first career ARCA start at the Nashville Superspeedway, Coleman took second place.

Coleman, who didn't start racing go-karts until he was 13, became the first 14-year-old U.S. driver to earn his professional open-wheel racing license. Late in 2005, he signed a deal with Brewco Motorsports as a NASCAR Busch Development Driver. Then in April of this year, two weeks after graduating from high school, Coleman made his NASCAR Busch Series debut, placing 29th.
