Chat with Kevin Love
![]() |
Although he cannot sign a letter of intent until November, Love, a 6-foot-9, 250-pound forward from Lake Oswego High School in Oregon, has made clear his intent to play for the Bruins and head coach Ben Howland.
A two-time Oregon Class 4A player of the year, Love averaged 29 points and nearly 17 rebounds a game last season as he led the Lakers to their first state championship.
Love, along with fellow touted recruit O.J. Mayo, will take part in the first annual Boost Mobile Elite 24 Hoops Classic at Harlem's Rucker Park on Sept. 1, powered by RISE magazine.
Send your questions for Love now and join The Show on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET.

Kevin will be here soon to answer your questions!
Todd, San Diego, CA
Congratulations on your decision to attend UCLA! UCLA is one of college basketball's storied programs but haven't been a consistent power since back in the Wooden era. With Coach Howland and players like yourself, I'm sure UCLA will climb back to that elite status of college basketball once again. My question is, what was the deciding factor or factors in choosing UCLA over North Carolina?
Kevin Love (1:05 PM)
A lot of it had to do with distance, but I'd say the coaching staff and how I felt toward them and how they run their program. UCLA was just the perfect fit for me, and I'd like to take it back to the Walton era. With so many great teammates to work with, hopefully we can strive for a national championship.
Bernie (NYC)
If you had to pick one player that you're looking most forward to playing with or against at Rucker, who would it be? Either someone who you'd like to punch on, or someone you'd like to have setting you up.
Kevin Love (1:06 PM)
There's going to be so many great players, and such a great venue, I'm just looking forward to matching up with them. Whatever it comes down to, I'm going to bring my A-game and hopefully they'll bring theirs.
Michael (Tustin, CA)
Now that you've chosen UCLA, what are the chances that your buddy, Kyle Singler, joins you in Westwood?
Kevin Love (1:07 PM)
I'm hoping Kyle joins me in Westwood and I hope Derrick Rose looks into it a little bit, too. Rose passes the ball and does whatever it takes to win. And with Kyle, we've played together for two years and we have great chemistry together.
Tommy DeFrancisco, Los Angeles; Ca.
What is your favorite sport to watch outside of basketball, and what is your favorite team?
Kevin Love (1:34 PM)
I'm acutally a big T.O. fan so it's gotta be Dallas. A lot people don't like him and the off-the-field stuff I don't like, but I like him on the field. I know a lot of people won't like that. That's a good question. Very tough to answer.
Jeff (Portland)
Buzz did you pull the plug on K-Love?
Buzzmaster (1:35 PM)
Company-wide internet blowout caused us some problems, but we press on with Kevin, who is very accommodating and patient...
Matt, Los Angeles
Hey Kevin, Did Steve Lavin put you up to this? Just kidding! Are you feeling any pressure being touted as the next great big at UCLA. I mean Walton and Kareem wore some pretty big shoes!
Kevin Love: They definitely wore some big shoes. I'm just going in there hoping to win some games and develop chemistry. We're going to get down on D, but as far as Walton and Lew go, if I can do half of what they did and win a national championship, I'll be happy. We've got so many great players, hopefully we'll be in a position to win a national championship.
Raul: Los Angeles, CA
Do u expect to grow an inch or two if and when u decide to play in the NBA?
Kevin Love (4:12 PM)
Yes, I do. I consider myself a PF right now, but if I can get an inch or two, which the doctors are optimistic I can. Drink some milk, sleep well, I'd like to play some center. My growth plate is still open, but I'm hoping for as many as a couple inches.
Chris (WESTWOOD, LA)
Kevin, before you made your decision to commit to UCLA, did USC's new arena and O.J Mayo's desire to join the USC program intrigue you to join the Bruins? Do you see this basketball rivalry heating up?
Kevin Love (4:14 PM)
Definitely. I think the USC-UCLA rivalry is a great thing. And with O.J. going there - and we have a good friendship - it's going to be great to watch the Bruins beat the Trojans and it's gonna happen. Going into that new arena will be exciting as well.
Ryan (Raleigh, North Carolina)
Congratulations on all your success on the court! What are your favorite subjects in school? Other than playing basketball professionally, what could you see yourself doing for a living after college? How are those areas interesting to you?
Kevin Love (4:15 PM)
I really want to look into business, but I also like speaking in front of a camera. And I'd really love to be a coach. But there are so many great opportunities at UCLA, I'm sure the teachers are going to put me in a position to succeed. And I want to work with them to be the best I can be at whatever I do.
Giuseppe (Calabasas, CA)
Would you have made yourself available for the NBA draft if not for the new rules regarding eligibility? Actually, my real question is: Will you please stay at UCLA for more than one year?
Kevin Love (4:16 PM)
My mother would LOVE to see me stay more than one year at UCLA, but as far as the draft goes, coming out of HS, I really don't know since it's not an option. If I was a lottery pick, I would assess my options and see if it made sense. After a year, it all depends on your draft status and what GMs think of you and I would sit back and see my draft status. I'd love to stay at UCLA with Pauley Pavilion, and great coaches and teammates!
Greg
Are you nervous with all the pressure at playing in such a prestige court like Rucker?
Kevin Love (4:18 PM)
I think the game is setup for us to go out and have fun, but also to be ferociously competitive. Somehow laid back, but wild and competitive at the same time. I'm going to walk into the Mecca - Rucker Park - with my eyes wide open and I cannot wait to play there.
James: Irvine, CA
With your tremendous talent, there is no doubt UCLA will be in serious contention for a national champioship for however many years you decide to stay. Do you intend to stay until you have won a title?
Kevin Love (4:18 PM)
I'd sure love to win it as many years as I stay there. That's going to be very tough, since that's what every team is striving for and there will be some pressure there. I'm really determined to win a national championship. I'm not out for myself, I'm out for my team and that's a big deal to me.
Rex (Eugene, OR)
Why no love for the Ducks?
Kevin Love (4:21 PM)
I've got a lot of love for the Ducks. I grew up watching them and my dad played for them. And I know my dad said a few bad things about them. But I respect the Ducks and their coach, but the way recruiting has changed - and I know people would've liked to see me stay in state - but it's no disrespect to them and I have a lot of friends that go to U of O. I just decided that UCLA was the place for me.
Kevin Love (4:21 PM)
Thank you for the questions, I appreciate it. Big shout out to my friend Bill Feinberg in NYC, had to get that out.
