Helloooooooo! Marshawn is just coming off the practice field and will be with us shortly! Keep your questions coming!
Marshawn Lynch (3:32 PM)
Hello!
Adam D: Berkeley, CA
Marshawn, please tell me that we are going to kill USC this year.
Marshawn Lynch (3:33 PM)
USC is very good team. Hopefully we can put them away when gametime comes.
Adam G (Portland)
What do you think of the new hybrid offense? Do you think it will give you more opportunities to showcase your skills?
Marshawn Lynch (3:34 PM)
I know we line up in receiver a lot so it will show my receiving ability and let me get in space some more.
Greg - Menlo Park, CA
Marshawn - You look slimmer this year, did you shed some weight and have you gained any strength and speed since last year?
Marshawn Lynch (3:34 PM)
I did lose about 5 pounds. I'm 215 now.
Russ (Dyersville)
Marshawn, what prompted you to change to #10 last season?
Marshawn Lynch (3:35 PM)
I've been wearing 10 my whole life.
Chrismeana, San Francisco
Hi Marshawn. I hear you're a mamma's boy. What is your mom like? How has she made you a better person and athlete?
Marshawn Lynch (3:36 PM)
Chrismeana, you know what my mom means to me!
Tim: Orinda, Ca
Marshawn, who do you get more geared up to play - Cal's new rival USC or Cal's traditional rival StanfUrd?
Marshawn Lynch (3:36 PM)
I get very geared up for both. They are both equally important. Every game is important.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen-Oakland
Hey do you ever sign autographs on campus? If so when are you around? I want one.
Marshawn Lynch (3:37 PM)
I have before but it's not something I look forward to doing. If somebody recognizes me and asks me I won't say no.
AH ( New York)
Will we see any Marshawn billboards in Times Square this year (ala Joey Harrington)?
Marshawn Lynch (3:37 PM)
I don't know about that. That would be a blessing to get one though.
Joey, California
Marshawn, can you dunk a basketball?
Marshawn Lynch (3:38 PM)
Yes! Of course!
Paul (Walnut Creek, CA)
Which tailbacks did you admire growing up? I say you're a cross between Earl Campbell and Barry Sanders.
Marshawn Lynch (3:39 PM)
I liked Barry Sanders the most.
Double S (Morgantown, WV)
Marshawn, I can respect a man who wears No. 10. Thanks for giving me a shout out on Cold Pizza, good luck in the Heisman Race.
Marshawn Lynch (3:39 PM)
Family first.
Saratoga, CA
In the BYU game when you met the ref in the end zone (he got in your way and threw his hands up at you), what did he say to you?
Marshawn Lynch (3:40 PM)
I don't really remember. I just remember seeing his hands in my face. At that point, I wasn't really worried about what he was saying.
Howard: (Walnut, CA)
Is it true that you don't like to watch other college football games? GO BEARS!
Marshawn Lynch (3:40 PM)
I don't like to watch TV period. It's not something I grew up doing.
Dan (Houston, TX)
Hey Marshawn, HUGE fan over here. Where did you get that sweet gold grill of yours? Would you still have it in there if you went to a school with different colors??
Marshawn Lynch (3:41 PM)
I got it from JC's right down on Broadway. If I went to another school I would have the same gold grill.
Kevin (Berkeley)
Who's really faster in the open field, you or Forsett?
Marshawn Lynch (3:42 PM)
We both are pretty dangerous in the open field and get the job done. So it really doesn't matter who is faster!
Tony (Los Angeles, CA)
Being known as a quiet guy, how are you handling the pressure of your centerfold-esque layout in SI being touted as this years top Heisman hopeful?
Marshawn Lynch (3:43 PM)
It is true that I would rather not be in the media but I've been handling it just fine. It's never anything too big. I would just rather have the credit where the credit is due and that is up front in the line.
Richard ( Berkeley, CA)
Marshawn, you credited much of your success last year to the great o-line Cal had. How does the o-line look for the upcoming season compared to last season?
Marshawn Lynch (3:44 PM)
Compared to last year the O-Line is looking great. Last year we had a great line and this year we have a great line.
JR FL
With a talent like Justin Forsett behind you, does it push you and make you excel your game or are you fearful of injury knowing he's talented enough to take the starting spot if you're out a few games?
Marshawn Lynch (3:45 PM)
That's a trip. I tell Justin everyday that he is going to take my spot. We don't look at it that way though. We look at is as helping each other out. We both know at any time it could be either me or him in there. The bigger picture is making sure we all know our assignments. That goes for every RB in the backfield.
Saratoga, CA
If you couldn't be a running back, what other position would you want to play?
Marshawn Lynch (3:45 PM)
I would want to play rover.
Denise-oakland/california
Our family is very proud of you, not only is he doing something that he loves, but he's also getting a good/solid educational background. You have all our blessings and support for the season and for all times. Love your family and friends.
Marshawn Lynch (3:46 PM)
Family first!
7th Grader Seattle DAWG!!!
did you grow up as a Golden Bears fan or did you cheer for another school?
Marshawn Lynch (3:47 PM)
I really didn't have a favorite team growing up. My brother was a Gator fan and I rode with him so ..
Darren (San Pablo, CA)
Hey Marshawn, will you be entering the NFL draft if you have success this year?
Marshawn Lynch (3:48 PM)
Right now I'm just focused on the seaon and making sure we get all our team goals this season. So I'm not thinking about it right now.
7th Grader Seattle DAWG!!!
did you play any other sports in high school?
Marshawn Lynch (3:48 PM)
I played basketball, ran track and did some wrestling.
Nate (Los Angeles, CA)
Watched your unbelievable performance in the Las Vegas Bowl last year. Between TDs, you were yelling "Shinin'!" on the sidelines when you were celebrating. What was that a reference to? Go Bears!
Marshawn Lynch (3:49 PM)
To the success that we had and how we came together as a team. To make it that far with so many ups and downs was great. It was just a reflection of our team.
New Haven, CT
Hi Marshawn, not sure if you have an opinion on this but would you like to see a playoff system in college football?
Marshawn Lynch (3:50 PM)
It would be interesting. I'd be cool with a playoff. But we still have to play the games and win so it doesn't make a big difference.
Alex (Glendale)
Why do some people call you money lynch?
Marshawn Lynch (3:51 PM)
It was a nickname that I picked up out in the bowl game I played at in L.A. When I came back, my cousin air brushed me some pants with Money Lynch on it. I wore them around and people saw it and it stuck.
Kevin (Fremont, CA)
Hey Marshawn, which Berkeley pizza joint do you like better? Blondie's or Fat Slice?
Marshawn Lynch (3:51 PM)
Fat Slice.
Darryl (Oakland, CA):
Boo Boo Lynch, best RB in the family.
Marshawn Lynch (3:52 PM)
That's true.
Tyler (Boston, MA)
How are you preparing for the big season opener vs. Tennessee in their 100,000+ sea of orange?
Marshawn Lynch (3:52 PM)
That's not something you can prepare for. Nothing can prepare you for that. You just have to be ready to play. You aren't playing against the fans. That shouldn't make a difference.
Keith (Grand Rapids)
Thank you so much for not going to USC.
Marshawn Lynch (3:53 PM)
No problem, Keith.
(Boston, MA)
The Cal's D is getting a lot of pub. lately... How is it practicing with them everyday and do you think they deserve the hype?
Marshawn Lynch (3:53 PM)
It's hard! Real hard! But it's fun. They make our practices very intense.
7th Grader Seattle DAWG!!!
favorite Band or Musical Artist?
Marshawn Lynch (3:54 PM)
Keak and Dubee.
vince, san francisco, ca
which team has the toughest defense you've faced?
Marshawn Lynch (3:54 PM)
Arizona and Oregon State.
Jeff (San Francisco, CA)
Marshawn, will we see you throw a few passes this year?
Marshawn Lynch (3:55 PM)
I don't know!
Scott: San Francisco, CA
How much gold do you have on your teeth? Is that removable or did a dentist put it on? Do you think you could get Tedford to do that?
Marshawn Lynch (3:56 PM)
He just left .. I've been trying to get him to do it! I have 6 solid slugs on the top and also on the bottom. I think I need to step up my grill game.
Jordan (Oakland,CA)
Lets say your in the NFL and your a big time star, will you come back to Oakland?
Marshawn Lynch (3:56 PM)
I'm going to stay in Oakland.
Allen (Lafayette)
Do Robert and Virdell have as nice of grills as you?
Marshawn Lynch (3:57 PM)
Actually, Robert has a better one. Way better. And Virdell's is on the way.
Ricard San Francisco CA
You worked so hard in the off-season. What are your expectation for yourself this upcoming season.
Marshawn Lynch (3:57 PM)
To be the best team player I can be and help my team to reach our goal.
Geoff, LA
Worse mascot: that dopey tree or the skirt wearing trojan?
Marshawn Lynch (3:58 PM)
I don't like either one of them. If it ain't a Golden Bear, I don't like it.
Vince (Long Beach, CA)
Marshawn, congrats on all of the accomplishments you acheived. Are you enjoying your college (academic) experience as much as your football experience?
Marshawn Lynch (3:59 PM)
When I get back to the town I can enjoy it, but around Berkley it's hard. A lot of people recognize me and want to talk. But at home I can really relax.
Mike, Michigan
2 pac or Biggie?
Marshawn Lynch (3:59 PM)
Pac.
Marshawn Lynch (4:01 PM)
Thanks for the questions! I appreciate you all taking time out of your day to see what I'm about. I'm just about staying solid and keeping my family first. Thanks. Enjoy the season.
