Chat with Diego Corrales
![]() |
The fight takes place Saturday, October 7 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. It can be seen live on Showtime and will be a part of Showtime's free preview weekend.
The pair square off in a grudge match that's spanned three years. Casamayor won the first match via TKO in October of 2003. With the victory, Casamayor captured the vacant IBA Super Featherweight title. But Corrales won the March 2004 matchup with a split decision. He took Casamayor's IBA title as well as the vacant WBO Super Featherweight title.

We're getting Diego now! Send in your questions!
Vidiots (new york,ny)
Chico... After 10 years in the fight game what keeps you motivated?
Diego Corrales (11:59 AM)
I love what I'm doing. I truely enjoy what I'm doing. It's a great job. You get to meet a lot of people.
Dan (Detroit)
Which weight class do you think is the most exciting in boxing right now?
Diego Corrales (12:00 PM)
Wow. The junior lightweight division is very hot right now. It's become a melting pot of great names.
Diego Corrales (12:00 PM)
From 122 to 135 is pretty solid.
Slick, Philly
Other than Floyd, Is there anybody else out there that you would really like to fight at some point?
Diego Corrales (12:01 PM)
Oh yeah, I would like to fight everybody. Margarito, Hatton's out there. There are a lot of names out there. So many good names out there.
David (Houston)
Do you think a third fight with Jose Luis Castillo will ever happen? Everyone was obviously upset that it didn't come off, and I'd still like to see it.
Diego Corrales (12:02 PM)
Yes. Probably not. He's costed everyone so much money. How can I ever chance that again. He was trying to cheat the scale. He cost PPV so much money. I said in camp that they better make weight. I think I'm pretty much done with the guy.
Big M (Atlanta)
Growing up, who were your favorite fighters that influenced you?
Diego Corrales (12:03 PM)
I grew up watching Tommy Hearns and all those guys during the golden years of boxing.
Brian (Boston, MA)
How old were you when you started boxing?
Diego Corrales (12:03 PM)
Competitively, probably like 9 or 10 or somewhere around there. I was young.
kevin, MA
Do you see your fight with Casamayor going the distance and do you have any plans to move up in weight when you win?
Diego Corrales (12:04 PM)
If he comes like he says he wants to fight me and comes at me, he's going to get gunned down. There's no way anybody in the world can fight me nose to nose. If he boxes me, it should be an interesting fight.
Slick, Philly
What is your normal walk-around weight when you are not in camp for a fight?
Diego Corrales (12:04 PM)
Probably around 160, 155.
Diego Corrales (12:05 PM)
That's one thing I make sure I do before camp is do a really good diet.
Big M (Atlanta)
In your spare time, what do you like to do to relax?
Diego Corrales (12:06 PM)
Actually, I'm an activity buff. I don't really relax. Fishing, riding dirt bikes, spend time with my kids. I do a lot of stuff.
Matt (Brooklyn)
Hey Chico! How much longer are you going to rule Lightweight? Like to see you go Jr. Welterweight and give both Castillo and Hatton some punishment.
Diego Corrales (12:06 PM)
I want the biggest and best fights out there, so is it a possibility? Yes. Will it happen, I don't know.
Big M (Atlanta)
After you fight Casamayor, will you fight the ?other? champ - Diaz?
Diego Corrales (12:07 PM)
If that's what everyone wants to see, then that's what I'll do. That might be the best fight. If that's what it is . . .
Matt (Brooklyn)
Why is Casamoyer talking so much trash?
Diego Corrales (12:08 PM)
I don't care. I have no idea. He's trying to pull me out of my game. He's trying to make sure I'm not at the A game that I'm always at. He's trying to amp me up and make me go crazy. That's not working so he'll have to find a new plan.
Big M (Atlanta)
What?s the funniest thing that ever happened to you in the sport of boxing?
Diego Corrales (12:09 PM)
I had a fight, a guy who I was really beating, the guy backed up and jumped and kicked me right in the side. That really hurt. I was like, "Oh my God."
E (Kansas City)
Please beat the hell out of Casamoyer, I do not like him at all. I think he is a jerk and I wish you would knock him out cold so he can't say it is a disputed decision he thinks he won. Knock him out for at least 20 seconds so when he wakes up he will have to say you knocked me out and there can be no excuses. Thanks
Diego Corrales (12:10 PM)
It will happen.
Big M (Atlanta)
Where?s did the nick-name ?Chico? come from? Also, how?s your relationship w/ your day?
Diego Corrales (12:11 PM)
My Gramma. She gave me my nickname. She didn't speak English. It means my little one. That's where it came from and I'm stuck with it.
Diego Corrales (12:11 PM)
Or it's Chico the Chickmagnet. That works for me too.
Ray (San Diego)
Chico! You mention fishing, what kind of fishing do you like to do?
Diego Corrales (12:12 PM)
All kinds. I love all kinds. I do deep sea fishing in Figi and caught myself 6 or 7 mahi-mahi. I caught one huge one that I wrestled with for 45 minutes. To me there's nothing more peaceful then going out and fishing.
Matt (Brooklyn)
What do you think makes a legendary boxer? You hear boxers talk about their legacy before they done anything (read: PBF).
Diego Corrales (12:13 PM)
They use it, the whole thing is does the rest of the boxing community use it? In order to become one you have to fight the top guys and win. That's how you become a legendary boxer. You can't be a self-proclaimed one.
Big M (Atlanta)
Just a comment. You?ve been a pleasure to watch, and really, in my opinion, what the sport is truly about. Pure honesty and heart in that squared circle. If noone has ever said it, THANKS for the many thrills, thus far.
Diego Corrales (12:13 PM)
Thanks. Thank you very much. I'll try to keep up the good work.
Diego Corrales (12:14 PM)
Do NOT miss a minute of Oct. 7. It's been a year in waiting, so don't miss it.
