| Duke's Josh McRoberts is going from a role player to star player this season. |
McRoberts was among ESPN.com's Impact 25, a list of 25 players, administrators and coaches that will be in the news this season. McRoberts is one of nine returning players that made the list. You can also rank ESPN.com's Impact 25 teams.
McRoberts, along with junior guard DeMarcus Nelson and sophomore guard Greg Paulus, was named a team captain for the '06-'07 season. McRoberts and Paulus become the first sophomores to be named team captains in the 102-year history of the Duke men's basketball program.
McRoberts, an ACC All-Freshman team and ACC All-Tournament second team selection in 2006, posted the team's top field goal percentage (.605, 115-of-190) last season. He was also third on the team in scoring at 8.7 points per game and second in blocked shots (46) and rebounding (5.3 rpg.).

Duke just called. Josh is a little delayed. He'll be here closer to 1:45. But continue sending in those questions!
Buzzmaster (1:40 PM)
Josh is here!
T-dawg (DC)
What's the biggest challenge about being the one of the youngest team captains in Duke mens B-ball history?
Josh McRoberts (1:41 PM)
I think one of the biggest challenges is that we have a young team, but it's also an exciting thing. It's the first time through for a lot of guys and even the guys that have been here haven't proven themselves yet.
Brennan (Durham, NC)
Josh, last year you brought down the house with your ferocious rim rockin' dunks. How has the back surgery affected your monster dunk-ability, if at all?
Josh McRoberts (1:41 PM)
Hopefully, not at all, it won't effect. I've recovered from it very well. It doesn't effect me at all right now.
Eric (Mayfield, New York)
Josh, glad you did, but what made you decide against the NBA and return to Duke for your sophmore season?
Josh McRoberts (1:42 PM)
I just felt like coming back to Duke would be the best decision for me on the floor and off the floor. I felt I could learn a lot here at Duke before moving on.
Kelly, Des Moines
With such a young team and a lot of depth, do you see Coach K straying away from his typical 7-8 man rotation and use a 9-10 man rotation?
Josh McRoberts (1:43 PM)
I'm not sure. We definitely have the depth to do it. It depends on what Coach wants to do. Whatever he decides, we'll go with.
Sean R., Brooklyn
Is there any significance to you wearing jersey number 2? Are you superstitious when it comes to your jersey number?
Josh McRoberts (1:43 PM)
No, not at all. I wore 44 in high school. That was retired here and 4 was taken. I just picked 2 out of the list they gave me.
Chris (chapel hill, nc)
How good was J.J. Redeye last season, and how much did you learn from his leadership for this season?
Josh McRoberts (1:44 PM)
Obviously, J.J. was the best player in the country last year. We lost a lot with him leaving, but everyone learned from him. He worked hard all the time, I think everyone can learn from him.
Jeff (FE,NY)
How are the freshman adjusting to life @ Duke
Josh McRoberts (1:45 PM)
The freshman class looks really good. I'm really excited about it. From what I can tell, they've all adjusted really well and like the rest of us are excited for the season to start.
Ryan, Charlotte, NC
Has the absence of Coach K with Team USA had any negative effects on the team?
Josh McRoberts (1:46 PM)
It was pretty much business as usual. Coaches can't have much time with us in the summer anyway. Everyone was just happy that he had the chance to do that.
Ashley, NY
I read during the off-season you adapted the "JJ workout plan" and lost some weight? Is that true?
Josh McRoberts (1:46 PM)
I'm about the same weight that I've always been. I did work out a lot this summer, but I maintained about the same weight.
Eric ( Shelbyville, KY)
Josh, with Redick and Williams now in the league, do you expect to carry more of the load offensively and the chance to showcase your skills?
Josh McRoberts (1:47 PM)
I think so and I think everyone will have to step up a lot. Those guys were the two main options last year and I think everyone will have to step up and score a little bit more.
Chad, Walnut Cove, NC
What has been the 2 top things you have worked on in the off-season?
Josh McRoberts (1:47 PM)
I'd say probably lifting weights. Pretty much every day all summer. Then I worked on shooting all summer.
Dutch
Whos the best player you've ever played against?
Josh McRoberts (1:48 PM)
There's a lot of them, but the best player I played against every day was probably Sheldon Williams.
Barb Hoke Spring Grove, Pa.
Josh, How good can Duke be this year?
Josh McRoberts (1:49 PM)
I think we have a chance to be really good. We'll find out more as the season goes on, and I think we'll exceed some expectations that people may have for us.
Mike (Carmel)
What are your thoughts on the mathup with UNC this year?
Josh McRoberts (1:50 PM)
I haven't really thought too much about it. Obviously, they're going to be a great team this year. As the game gets closer, it will be exciting, but you can't look too far ahead.
Shack, Fredericksburg, Va
Josh, Good luck this season and beyond. How good is the chemistry between the current Duke players and the newbies? On and off the court.
Josh McRoberts (1:50 PM)
IT's been great so far. It's a lot different than last year. We had good chemistry last year the age range this year is closer. The guys get along really well.
Steve (Detroit)
Josh, other than Duke, which are your favorite Sports teams to watch? Go Tigers!
Josh McRoberts (1:51 PM)
My favorite sport outside of basketball is football. My favorite team is the Indianapolis Colts.
Steve (Detroit)
What has is been like to be captain thus far?
Josh McRoberts (1:52 PM)
It's an honor to be named the captain for the team this year. But there's not much that you can change, just keep doing what you're doing. I haven't done too many things different.
Steve (Detroit)
What's it like playing for the best coach in all of sports? How has the World Championships effected Duke's summer training?
Josh McRoberts (1:53 PM)
It's a great opportunity for me and everyone here. He's one of the best coaches out there. It's a great opportunity and we know he's going to give us his all every day.
Warren-tally, fl
Will you guys play more up tempo this season than last?
Josh McRoberts (1:53 PM)
I think so. I think that's definitely something we're going to do because of the team we have this year as we're more athletic on the wings.
lindsey charlotte nc
hey josh! big colts fan here too. who were your role models as a kid?
Josh McRoberts (1:54 PM)
My biggest role model, not in sports, has always been my mom.
Ray (seattle)
In your opinion who's the best team in college basketball entering the season?
Josh McRoberts (1:54 PM)
I don't know. I'm not sure. I can't pick just one. There will be a lot of teams right at the top this year.
Chunk (Foran)
Josh, what colleges did you think of going to besides Duke?
Josh McRoberts (1:55 PM)
It was down to North Carolina, Notre Dame, Indiana, Kansas and Arizona.
Aaron (NC)
Who do you think will give you the most trouble in the ACC?
Josh McRoberts (1:56 PM)
I think every team can give us trouble on any given night. The ACC is going to be one of the best conferences again this year.
John (Greensboro, NC)
Hey Josh, What's the first practice like for you guys?
Josh McRoberts (1:56 PM)
We actually don't have a traditional Midnight Madness, we just have a practice. It's exciting to finally get going the first day.
Josh McRoberts (1:56 PM)
Thanks for all the questions.
