mark (NY)
the pulse started
Seth (Sinking Spring PA)
KG and Gilbert Arenas? Where's the MVP love?
Aron (Milwaukee, WI)
Hey guys who do think will be the Steelers of last year with the biggest upset to win the Super Bowl this year? Thanks!
Richie (Canton, OH)
Peyton Manning is gonna throw 5 TD's today, I think this might be his year as long as he doesn't run into the Chargers...
Steve (Dallas)
I'm back! What up Pulse? Heppay New Year!
THE PULSE (1:04 PM)
Oh yeah, thanks Steve.
THE PULSE (1:05 PM)
Happy New Year all you Pulsites!
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
The most hostile environment in the NFC is...Seattle? Guess Ed Werder is referring to audible hostility, as opposed to the more common physical kind at the Linc...
Justin (Buffalo)
How can the Colts stop Larry Johnson when the couldn't stop Ron Dayne? Cheifs win 31-21
THE PULSE (1:05 PM)
Good call Justin.
Richie (Canton,OH)
I think the Seahawks could make a run at the Super Bowl since Alexander is fresh
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
And now I see with eyes serene, the very pulse of the machine. -wordsworth
Derek (Minnesota)
What is The Pulse all about? Is it about anything in sports?
THE PULSE (1:06 PM)
We've got The Pulse on ESPNEWS which ties in with the chat here on ESPN.com. Watch the show on TV, chat here. Send us your comments and questions and we'll put some of them on TV!
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Likewise on the New Year's sentiment, Pulse...
Aron (Milwaukee, WI)
nice point justin
Brandon (Cape Cod)
You too Pulse.Let's bring in the new year with a bang.Chiefs or Colts? I say Chiefs.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
GIANTS SUCK!! GIANTS SUCK!! GIANTS SUCK!! Is there a better way to start today off? I think not...
Andrew (NY)
Lets Go Jets!!!!
mark (NY)
The colts offense will jump on the cheifs weak D early causing the cheifs to pass leading to a 35-17 colts win.
Derek (Minnesota)
I'm picking the Chiefs to upset the Colts. Larry Johnson is going to dominate their defense. I'm also picking the Seahawks over the Cowboys.
Aron (milwaukee, WI)
I think the Cowboys have a overrated D
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
hah, that's great wingo. i don't think philly fans are setting their expectations high enough, you know how things always work themselves out for philly teams in high pressure, high expectation situations.
Derek (Minnesota)
Right on Andrew.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done. - Longfellow
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
the bearcats look good.
Aron (Milwaukee, WI)
Hey guys who do think will be the Steelers of last year with the biggest upset to win the Super Bowl this year? Thanks!
mitchel-houston
Just want to say R.I.P. Darrent Williams. You will be missed.
THE PULSE (1:11 PM)
Good point Mitchel. Such tragedy.
Aron (milwaukee, WI)
Tony Romo should have NOT made the pro bowl, they should have dropped him and put another OL in instead.
Derek (Minnesota)
Dwight Freeney won't be able to stop L.J., however, he may be a free agent this off-season.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
How awesome is it that my daughter can say four things: mommy, daddy, Dallas sucks, Giants suck. The down side is she's 19; way to go public school system...
Brandon (Cape Cod)
I'd like to say rip to the Colts defense today versus LJ.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
How are you gonna feel tomorrow night when Tiki's hosting kid shows on the Sprout channel come Monday morning, and your Giants are toast after an 8-9 season, Ephraim?
Derek (Minnesota)
Haha nice Wingo.
Derek (Minnesota)
I'd have to agree with Mitchel.
THE PULSE (1:15 PM)
We're going to have Tim Kurkjian on in a little bit to discuss the MLB Hall of Fame voting. What does everyone think, does McGwire make it? Will he ever?
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Just say no (to) Mark McGwire....
Derek (Minnesota)
It's truly possible.
Brian (Kirkland, WA)
Yes he makes it. But not this year. Eventually, in probably 10 years the MLB will have to start inducting players from "The 'Roid Era"
Aron (milwaukee, WI)
Many people say that if you have a great offense you have a great defense, thats 100% not true at all look at the Colts?
Brent (NYC)
the only batter who derserves to be in is bonds. he was a hall of famer before he used steroids
mark (NY)
Mcgwire should make it because if we don't let him in we can't let anyone from that era in.
Brent (NYC)
why would anyone want to deal with the side effects of steroids just for money and sometime in the limelight?
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
I'll have mixed feelings. I'll be happy because it will mean the universally hated tom coughlin will be gone. I'll be, uhm, mildly annoyed at the amount of, uhm, trashtalkin' I'll have to listen to for the next week. It's a mixed bag. Maybe John Mara will choke out another Eagles fan.
Brent (NYC)
if you ignore the fact that big mac used steroids you probably still don't vote him in. he was basically dave kingman with 100 extra homers
Brent (NYC)
the colts should be embarseed with their play on d they upgraded on kicker bout basically ignored upgrading on d? do they realize their wasting peytons prime?
Mike C (Bellmore New York)
mcgwire is one of the best ever
josh (FL)
JETS SUCK THEY HAVE THE EASIEST SCEDULE I HAVE EVERY SEEN
Mike C (Bellmore New York)
The colts onyl choke in the second round my friends
Brent (NYC)
did you forget the jets pounding them 41-0 in round 1 in 02 mike
Santa Rosa, California
I've been an Oakland Raider fan my whole life.Is there any hope for my team in the near future?
mark (NY)
Duke is not a top 25 team this year.
Bryan (B-more)
Ravens all the way
mike (lakeville, mn)
Packers- Will make playoffs with a 10-6 record next year.
Mike C (Bellmore New York)
As a cowboy fan i must say the chargers had the eaiser scedule my friend
mark (NY)
Santa Rosa, jamarcus russell to Randy Moss and some great D.
Bryan (B-more)
who was the biggest dissapointment in the nfc Giants or cowboys
mark (NY)
The only way the colts win it all is if peyton catches.
Bill (San Antonio TX)
How about those that are in before roids were illegal
Luke (Delaware, Ohio)
Im an OSU fan but we will get killed by the Gators wooh there good.
dan (santa fe, nm)
giants will get destroyed.
Nick (Chicago)
I say Saints vs Pats in the SB. I can't see Rivers, even with LT and Merriman, plaing well enough to make it all the way.
Derek (Minnesota)
Vikings are going to draft Calvin Johnson. Calvin Johnson is the next Randy Moss except he won't act terribly to his coaches and he won't quit on every play.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
All the great ESPN commercials that were ever made, and you guys keep running the lame one with the dress shirt cannon...bring back the kid that came out too early...
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Shame to see Notre Dame isn't just overrated in football...
THE PULSE (1:37 PM)
Georgetown putting the hurt on Notre Dame.
Bill (San Antonio TX)
We push to put people in the stands, not for hitting singles. but for the long ball
Anthony (Cleveland)
Luke , I am disappointed in you....GO BUCKS!!!!!
Steev (Dallas)
I can't wait for the Cowboys to play tonight being from Dallas!
Derek (Minnesota)
Go Georgetown.
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
Only reason ND is ranked in b-ball is because of name recognition. They don't deserve it like Georgetown or a solid Pac-10 school.
mark (NY)
Wingo i feel youI must have seen that commercial at least a dozen times today.
Nick (Chicago)
I like the College BB Gameday commercial.
josh (MIDDLEBURG,FL)
OHIO IS GOING TO KICK THE GATORS OUT OF THE STADIUM
Steev (Dallas)
How bout them Mavericks!
Bryan (B-more)
Get your popcorn ready it might be T.O s last game in a cowboy uniform
Nick (Chicago)
Baseball is my least favorite sport because its so tainted now. Go Hockey!
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Maybe Notre Dame can come back to beat G'town...and maybe Charlie Weis could eat a salad once in a while...
Brent (NYC)
only two more years till we here rickys hall of fame sppech!!
Steve (DAlla)
I can't even spell my own name!
EO (IL)
Mark's right. They just need a QB and some heart (and Norm Chow). R. Moss will be back. They'll be in the contention in 2 years.
mark (NY)
The only reason ND had won 12 straight was because of their cupcake schedule
Erik (Ingleside, IL)
What true Ohio St. fan would think the Gators are better or even win. Go BIG TEN!
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
There he is, the funky junkie, Mark McGwire...
Nick (Chicago)
I think the Big Ten is an overated conferance, esscially after Michigangot crushed. OSU needs to win to convince me that the B10 is good.
Derek (Minnesota)
Ohio State over Florida 42-21.
Gerald Kelly (Carson, California)
How shameful is it that the "Non-Athletic" are allowed to determine who gets into the "Hall..." or not, it should be left to the peers of the Athletes in question, not some pencil necked sportswriter who couldn't hit a Randy Johnson fastball with a building. Fact: Maguire, Sosa and Bonds broke, (still breaking) records, THEY SHOULD BE IN, PERIOD!
Keith (Bel Air, Maryland)
If MLB isn't going to inquire about the histories of those already in the hall, why would they hold players like McGwire or Sosa out because of thier "shady" history?
Trevi (asheville,NC)
I think tha t Wisconsin and Florida should be the No.1 and No.2 in ncaab because they both have played the toughest teams, (Wisconsin played Pittsburgh, Marquette, and Georgia, and Florida has played ohio state, but they have played other teams that are pretty good but i don't know....
Eric Walton (Chester,Pennsylvania)
When will the striped idiots the Nfl calls refs start calling offensive pass interference on those WR's that need to push off to get free.
Bryan (B-more)
Tony Dungy wiil be fired after this season
Derek (Minnesota)
Raiders take Brady Quinn. Lions take some defensive guys. Browns take Adrian Peterson. Buccaneers take Dwayne Jarrett. Cardinals take some defensive guy. Redskins take some defensive guys. And the Vikings take Calvin Johnson.
Nick (Chicago)
I hate steroids.
Bob (Who cares where i live)
I think we have the worst defending champs in sports. mlb st. louis, nfl pittsburgh, nba miami.
Nick (Chicago)
I agree with Bob. Boring teams are our defending champs.
Brent (NYC)
how about 98 broncos bulls
Bryan (B-more)
Good point Bob
victor alexandria, la
sean payton coach of the year and i,m glad.
Nick (Chicago)
I also have not really been amazed by OSU. The only hard team on their scedual was Michigan. The Gators basically had all of the tough SEC. Common Sense.
Paul (Ohio)
Nick USC basically had a home game, and plus Michigan did not realy felt like they should be there. They wanted to be in the championship game
Teresa (Nome Alaska)
Put an NFL team in Anchorage!
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Jarrett is not going before alvin Johnson.
Ed (Marietta)
Calvin Johnson isent going to drop to Minnesota. Give it up.
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
As a Pittsburgh fan, I'd like to see Whisenhunt as the coach. Either he or Dick LeBeau.
ryan (nyc)
NFL playoffs, home teams go 1-3 this weekend- you can hate them but the Giants are the most talented NFC team this weekend. Colts, Seahawks and Eagles all lose.
THE PULSE (1:50 PM)
Ryan, that sounds like a homer call to me. The Giants may be the most talented, but they also might be the NFC team that's playing the worst right now.
Nick (Chicago)
still, Michigan should play like they are a championship team. Don't lay down because USC is at home.
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
Paul, if you can't manage to mentally and physically prepare your team for the Rose Bowl, against probably the most talented team in the country, then you deserve to be fired.
Steve (Dallas)
Teresa, I think Alaska is too cold for the NFL.
Anthony (Cleveland)
Ryan in NYC...you are such a homer....Eagles or Saints will rep the NFC
Erik (Inglesie IL)
Bears walk into the Bowl w/ 2 double digit victories.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
The Giants are the most talented? The Giants have how many wins since Halloween? The Giants are a bunch of overrated whiners who have a FRAUD at quarterback.
ryan (nyc)
NFL Final Four: Giants-Saints and Chargers-Ravens. Super Bowl: Saints v. Ravens
the hapster (Michigan)
Also wanted to thank Steveie Y for a great career. Truly represented the city of Detroit as a true professional and with class. Thanks for the memories.
Bryan (B-more)
Ryan you cant be serious about the giants
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
I just heard a report that the Cardinals offered all the money they had to Bill Cowher to come here and establish discipline in a young, talented Card team! Oh wait, that's what I dreamt about last night.
AL (Iraq)
Raiders trade their 1st drop down and get Demarcus Russell, and more picks in the second or off help!
Brent (NYC)
ryan you are such a homer!!!!
Bryan (B-more)
Brett Farve really needs to retire he looks like a old man
Brent (NYC)
i think it is really sad that the number 5 team in the AFC would have a first round bye in the NFC
Steve (Dallas)
74% of SportsNation says that the Mavericks winning streak will end in the next 3 games. Those 74% are Spurs fans! They're jealous!
Anthony (Cleveland)
The Bears D isnt as dominate as it was at the begining of the year...and you cant trust Grossman at all
Steve (Dallas)
Grossman played like Tony Romo last weekend: horrible!
Erik (Inglesie IL)
Think Mr. Manning is regretting keeping his kid out of San Diege. Hope he's enjoying New York
Steve (Dallas)
Ryan in NYC, I HATE the Eagles. But they will kill your Giants!
Nick (Chicago)
Yes! the OSU Miami game is on Classic next! The second greatest game of this decade.
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
Jets, Colts, Seahags, and Iggles all winSaints and Iggles for NFCBolts and Ravens for AFCBolts win SB over Saints 30-27
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
The Mavs would be a .500 team if Dirk didn't get all those dumb touch fouls the refs give him.
Kevin (Houston)
Go Buckeyes!!!!
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
Big Al Davis (and the cool white junpsuit) will get an offensive coach instead of hiring Sexy Rexy Ryan, and they'll screw up the #1 pick.
the hapster (Michigan)
Lions take Adrian Peterson for one reason...he's been hurt 2 out of three years, its their m/o
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
Hey y'all, you better keep your eye on UCLA-Oregon. That'll be an awesome game...for UCLA at least. GO BRUINS!!!!!!!!!
Joseph ((Midd. NJ))
You can interview all the top players in this years draft and they will all say the same thing "Ill be willing to go to any team that drafts me....except the Raiders."
THE PULSE (2:03 PM)
Or the Lions.
Luke (Phoenix)
NONONO...Lions take another reciever...just so that players career can be ruined
Nick (Chicago)
I'll miss the Art Shell Face.
Brent (NYC)
with the 2nd pick in the NFL draft the detroit lions select Calvin johnson georgia tech
Kevin (ohio)
the sec wasnt as strong this year as they sually are. kentucky won enough games to get in a bowl.
Nick (Chicago)
College BB rocks. March Madness can't come soon enough.
Brent (NYC)
OSU Miami was the GREATEST game this decade
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Who would've thought the 2 NFC QBs you can be confident in are Jeff Garcia and Drew Brees!?!?
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
Is Brian Brohm leaving early? If so, I think he should be the 1st QB taken.
Aaron (syracuse)
I go to school in Buffalo, believe me... Alaska aint too cold for an nfl team.
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
The Lion's m/o is having a dope for a GM who knows nothing about football. (Paging Matt Millen)
Nick (Chicago)
I think Bosie state-Oklahoma was a better game. Cinderella rocks.
tommy mac from philly
Yoooo just wanted to say whats up to yall....go Birds ya heard!
Steve (Dallas)
OSU-Miami was not even in the top 3 this decade!
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
Nico, I can't wait till U of A plays the Bruins. Another epic battle alot like the early 90's.
Luke (Phoenix)
Matt Millen...what a joke
Nick (Chicago)
I was talking about only College FB BTW.
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
You're right, Dave. Those games will be awesome. It could be UCLA's only blemish when they got to Tucson.
Brent (NYC)
is matt millen using blackmail to keep his job? you have to wonder...
Mark (Woodmere, NY)
well we all now that Romo is gonna do well in the playoffs against the Hawks, and Chicago is still sticking with Grossman, who isn't that great.
THE PULSE (2:08 PM)
Now, exactly how do we all know that?
Aaron (Syracuse)
San Diego may have to play the 2 teams that beat them arleady this year in order to make it to the Superbowl... That is no easy feat. Look for an upset by KC or Baltimore.
Steve (Dallas)
I can't wait for March Madness! Is it March yet?
Erik (Inglesie IL)
San Diego's worst nightmare is to play its division rival to reach the AFC championship
Nick (Chicago)
I agree. March Madness is the greatest sporting event in the world.
Bob (Madison)
If people would quit wasting time with the NFL, they'd realize that college BB is fun for the 4 months before March.
Bart (Winston-Salem, NC)
mmm...overtime, Duke's getting a run for their money today I think they're overrated anyway
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
College Basketball has been the best sport this year. And the Pac has been the best conference in the best sport.
Steve (Dallas)
Pulse, take it from your correspondent in Dallas, Steve. Tony Romo went undrafted and now he is the starting quarterback of America's team that is in the playoffs. But this whole Carrie Underwood thing in Dallas is starting to get a lot of people worried. I think he should just focus on this game tonight against the Seahawks and by doing that, he will get better.
THE PULSE (2:14 PM)
Well, I would hope so, Steve, because he's played pretty poorly the last few weeks.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
I thought the Rock, Paper, Scissors World Championship was the greatest sporting event in the world...I've been lied to once again.
tom from philly
March Madness is good....NFL playoffs are great....there is a difference
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
Hold your horses, Bob. We'll give you a couple of minutes to think about what you just said.
Steve (Dallas)
Larry Johnson should have a field day against the Colts.
Steve (Dallas)
Tom in Philly, you get March Madness for almost a whole month and twice as many games than in the NFL.
chris wright (panama city)
gators will beat osu in the champion ship game SEC SPEED!!!!!
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
There is also the possibility that Romo could just be a flash in the pan player, Steve. Perhaps we've seen the best of him, and his 15 minutes are over.
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Has anyone else noticed OSU has gotten worse since Oden has been healthy? Durant will be a better pro.
Steve (Dallas)
The whole world will see Tony Romo in his first palyoff game tonight!
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
Everyone is always so biased towards the East when college basketball is mentioned. No one knows that the Pac-10 has 2 top 10 teams and 8 teams w/ a winning record AND the 2nd best conference RPI. the title winner will be from the PAC, UCLA or U of A.
Erik (Ingleside, IL)
So, sportsnation ranks the Saints higher than the Bears. Bring it on. The last few weeks were exhibition, but we didn't shut it down last year like the Colts.
THE PULSE (2:20 PM)
Well the team maybe didn't, but Rex sure did.
Brent (NYC)
actuallt their offence got 5 points worse and their d got 5 points better does anyone think he is gonna be the next ben wallace only he can score
Nick (Chicago)
Wow, watching the OSU Miami game, I totally forgot aout Clarett. Is he still in jail?
Isaac (Boston)
you are wrong mike, they are not as good as everybody thinks they are....especially playing better compettion now
Anthony (Cleveland)
OSU actually might be faster than Florida...Ginn is the fastest in the country....his 100 meter was fast enough to qualify for the Olympics. It was in the Plain Dealer(Cleveland Newspaper)
Steve (Dallas)
Gators have, as Vince McMahon's theme song would say: NO CHANCE THAT"S WHAT YOU GOT!
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Rex Grossman, 0.0. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son....
Erik (Ingleside, IL)
SIU VS. N. IOWA...Ladies and Gentleman..welcome to THE VALLEY
THE PULSE (2:24 PM)
Duke-VT going down to the wire.
Brent (NYC)
THE BEARS ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY ARE
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
I think the Rose Bowl was a good indicator of how overrated the Big 10 is. Florida will give OSU all they can handle and it will be a great game.
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
UCLA vs. the Quack Attack at the PIT Welcome to the Pac-Ten America!!!!!!
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
I am ashamed, like most people, that Steve from Dallas used a Vince McMahon, entrance-theme reference on the Pulse. Can someone at the Pulse put his future posts in pink, please?
Nick (Chicago)
Anybody else here playing Bowl Mania? I'm 19-9
Erik (Ingleside, IL)
I can't believe I heard the great Beano Cook say we'll see at least a 4 team football tourney w/in a few years
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Florida would win if Tebow started the entire game...Leak won't be able to see over Pitcock and the rest of OSU's big D-Line.
THE PULSE (2:27 PM)
VT takes down Duke with a block on the final shot attempt. Nice ending.
Steve (Dallas)
OH MY GOSH! Virginia Tech with the upset over Duke 69-67 with a tremendous block at the end to seal it!
Brent (NYC)
duke should still be proud of the way they played va tech just was better today
THE PULSE (2:27 PM)
Not really. Duke is (supposedly) #5 in the nation and was at home and got beat by Va. Tech. I wouldn't be too proud of that.
Brent (NYC)
i am 8-20 not pretty
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Dave in Flagstaff...how do you explain Wisconsin beating and Arkansas team that outplayed Florida in the SEC championship game then?
Jordan (Washington, DC)
I know that Sean Payton has done a great job, and being in New Orleans is the sentimental choice. But I think it's obvious to everyone who's IN the NFL that Eric Mangini should've won Coach of the Year. It shouldn't have even been an issue. I hate to say it, but no Hurricane Katrina, and Mangini wins COY.
THE PULSE (2:30 PM)
I keep hearing people say that and I can't disagree more. The Saints were abismal last year, 3-13. They had no QB play to speak of. Regardless of Katrina, there was still talk about them moving. The whole organization was a mess. Now this year, they're the No. 2 seed in the NFC. Payton's done a great job there and deserves the award.
THE PULSE (2:30 PM)
Sure, the Jets were pretty bad last year, but Pennington was hurt (again) and they had a decent defense. They just had some misfortunes. Their turnaround has also been dramatic, however, I think the Saints was more so.
Nick (Chicago)
No Katrina and the Saint's story would not be half as amazing.
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
Don't forget that Arkansas had more than twice the total yardage as Wisconsin did. That shows me that there was some luck on the Badgers' side.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
What, no Pat Croce on the Pulse today? I wanted to know what he thought of his buddy Larry Brown getting his old job...
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
DUKE is OVERRATED!!! Any Pac team could contend or beat them. Or the Rest of the ACC for that matter.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
After this weekend, they'll have a new nickname for Mangini in Gotham...they'll be calling him Eric Mangotblownoutbyabettercoachedteam...
Anthony (Cleveland)
Duke is just like Notre Dame...ranked by there name
Isaac (Boston)
You call virginia tech's win an upset? Duke is not that good this year
THE PULSE (2:32 PM)
Of course. It's Duke. Doesn't matter what people say about them being overrated, they're still No. 5. They were at home. That all adds up to upset.
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
I have no problem with Payton winning on Mangenious....but I'll have a huge problem if the Saints GM doesn't get exec of the year after drafting Bush and Colsten then signing Drew Brees.
Charlie (Chicago)
Duke is so overrated. no real power players. McRoberts is overrated. VT should have beaten duke
Aaron (Syracuse)
If Florida doesn't win, then the whole BCS-playoff takes a step backwards. So, Everyone cheer for Florida.
Chester (Detroit, MI)
Steve Yzerman- One of the greatest on and off the field ahtletes
Aaron (Syracuse)
Hey folks, guess what? There was a Hurricane Katrina... and Every member of that team was affected some way by it. It takes a great coach to take a 3-13 team and produce a winner, and a greater coach to do it when the going gets tough.
mitchel-houston
OVERRATED! *clap clap, clap clap clap*
Isaac (Boston)
i think Tebow is overated as a passing pocket QB
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
who took that last shot for Duke, Bobby Hurley? Nice dribble-penetration skills, buddy...
mitchel_houston
Since the Texans don't know how to draft anyway, they have decided to forfeit all of their picks this year and try to get Lawrence Taylor from the free agent market.
Steve (Dallas)
Did I just see that Sean Payton won the Coach of the Year award?
Anthony (Cleveland)
Aaron from cuse..how do you figure if they lose the BCS takes a step back...that would make the #1 team in the BCS win...i disagree with the BCS system but I think OSU would have been #1 anyway.
larry (Alabama)
Florida will have trouble next year, TEbow is good, but will have trouble adjusting to having to take every snap
Brent (NYC)
this is the year that the ACC does not get two teams in the sweet 16 its been 15 years its starting to make me sick
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
Mangini had what Herm Edwards didn't have. A healthier Chad Pennington.
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Penn St. took down UT also, the Big Ten won their SEC matchups so far...just UM laid an egg against a very talented USC team.
Nick (Chicago)
The Saints GM would have to thank the Texans in his acceptance speech.
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
Does anyone in New York have a clue that this will be the last weekend this season that they have a rooting interest in the NFL? So sad, what with the Yankees and Mets going to suck too - at least they have the Knicks.
Dave (Flagstaff, AZ)
With the Boise St. situation, not to mention USC and LSU playing at an extremely high level, I think the BCS playoff made a positive statement this year, regardless of what happens in the title game.
Erik (Ingleside, IL)
Why am I still hearing about ND's "amazing" comeback vs. 4-8 Mich State. I'm gonna be sick.
Bob Bpt Ct
With Ernie Accorsie Giants Gm stepping down do you think Bill Parcells can becom the new gm for the Giants
THE PULSE (2:40 PM)
Bob, I've been to a sweet Portuguese restaurant in Bridgeport. Good food.
Kevin Traverse City,Mi
I just wanted to take a moment and say Thank you to Steve Yzerman. You are such an inspiration to so many. You sir are a class act and in today's sports world there just are not enough sincere gentleman such as yourself. Thanks for all the memories Steve! We will miss you in Traverse City(hockeytown north). You are and always will be something I strive to be and I can only hope that my kids can turn out to be the person you have become.God bless you and your family.Forever grateful fan in TC. Kevin S.
Erik (Ingleside, IL)
Enjoy your two playoff teams NY. Then enjoy a one and done for both.
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Don't these Michigan people realize that nobody cares about hockey or Steve Yzerman?
THE PULSE (2:44 PM)
Sure they do. Steve Yzerman was a great player.
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
UCLA's getting a fight from Oregon. IT'll be an awesome game.
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Yzerman may have been a great player but I still think 95% of sports fans could care less.
Nick (Chicago)
I'm part of the 5%, and I hated Hockey before the strike.
Erik (Papillion, NE)
No one cares about hockey?! From my perspective no one should care about basketball!
dave - nashville tn
was glad we got to see steve yzerman one more year after the lockout would have hated my last memory to see him on the ice after the deflected shot hit his eye
Nico (Simi Valley, CA)
Hey, Mike. I care about hockey too. Go KINGS!!!!
Erik (Ingeside, IL)
Payton EARNED it. No D, 8 win improvement. In the game for the #2 NFC seed he goes on the road and outcoaches Parcells and crushes Dallas.
Nick (Chicago)
I miss Cheap Seats. Random thought I know, but still.
Patrick (Stafford, Va)
Duke has plenty of talent this year, they are just young. VT has had our number the last couple of years
Brent (NYC)
clearly alabama is playing so bad because they are upset with the choice of nick saban
jEFF (ny)
Hey Erik in Illinois! Shut up! Your Bears will be knocked out in the second round! They have no shot. Grossman stinks and your defense is overrated!!!!!!!!!!
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
I equate Yzerman retiring to Brian Boitano...they both wear ice skates.
Erik (Papillion, NE)
The Bears D only looks overrated because alot of pass rush was lost when Tommie Harris was injured. As long as Grossman doesn't lose the game for us the Bears will win.
marty (Pa)
Jay Cutler will emerge as one of the best qbs in the next few years. Just look at his stats this year
steve y (detroit)
GIVE ME SOME RESPECT
Erik (Papillion, NE)
You'd have more of my respect if you didn't play for my team's (Blackhawks) archrival!
Brad (Louisiana)
Peyton vs. Mangini...The Jets were in the playoffs in 2004...The Saints 2000...Saints have more talent? Not at the beginning of the year, we were scheduled for a 3-13 season. Peyton developed that talent and showed them they could win...Coach of the Year BY FAR!
John from Virginia
Do you think Virginia Tech's win today over Duke is a turning point in their season?
Josh (Florida)
Simple as this: LJ gets over 150 yards and Trent Green throws 300 yards, Chiefs win. It's a simple cinario.
Brad (Louisiana)
Matt Millen will avoid drafting Calvin Johnson simply because he's taken a WR the past 3 years....Although I think this was the year to take one!
Brent (NYC)
jim harbaugh will lead stanford back from this horrible season and get them in a bowl game next year
bill (louisiana )
spelled his last name wrong, ITS PAYTON
Mike (Lakeville, MN)
Brad, not to mention the fact that the Saints had to rebound from Katrina. Payton>Mangini.
Erik (Ingleside, Il)
VA TECH's been ready to breakout for a couple years, this ones finally it
Brad (Louisiana)
yeah yeah whatever. however you spell it the guys darn good
Anthony (Cleveland)
john it is spelled scenario...not cinario
Brent (NYC)
yeah drew brees joe horn deuce reggie bush you are right you had no talent
Brad (Louisiana)
I try not to use the Katrina card cuz some people just think we want their sympathy but thanks Mike you're right about that too
Josh (Florida)
Good? He's going to the super bowl. That's not good. He's GREAT!
Anthony (Cleveland)
Brent ...shut up ....you are just a homer.....you guys stole the comeback from the saints(Brees) ...so be glad you got that award.
Brad (Louisiana)
C. Pennington, L. Coles, J. Vilma...yeah you guys didn't have any either. Good point
larry (new york)
why are the Raven overlooked to make the superbowl?
Nick (Chicago)
What would you say the over under is for LJ carries today?
THE PULSE (3:05 PM)
If the Chiefs want to win? They need to give him the ball 30+.
THE PULSE (3:05 PM)
So, I'll set the O/U at 28.
Josh (Florida)
They're not to me. Why are the Pats overlooked? That's when they're at their best!
Brent (NYC)
i would have voted for fisher so i dont know what you are talking about
Josh (Florida)
Brees didn't get hurt till the final game of the season. Chad's been hurt since he was born. I hate the Jets and I'm glad Chad got the award.
Brent (NYC)
chad pennington played 3 snaps last season he had 2 surguries in 3 years people were calling for them to start ramsey thats a comeback if i've ever heard one
Anthony (Cleveland)
Larry...because of there offense....it isnt as good as expected with McNair.
Erik (Ingleside, Il)
If the Jets played today, New York football would be over on the first day of the playoffs
THE PULSE (3:07 PM)
Well, it'll probably be over Sunday, when both the teams play.
Brad (Louisiana)
yeah i have no problem with Pennington getting the award...he's a classy guy and im glad to see him back and healthy
Nick (Chicago)
I'd go over
Brad (Louisiana)
The Giants dont play today either Erik
Anthony (Cleveland)
I think Mangini is gonna slow Brady down...closer game than most people think
bob (Oklahoma)
Vince Young will be the best out of last years draft class.
Erik (Ingleside, Il)
KC shoulda stuck w/ Huard, he was on fire. LJ might get 150, but Green won't get close to 300 yards. That equals Indy win
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
I like the unders on the LJ carries. Colts blow KC off the field from the opening coin toss. 23 total carries for KC, 67 total yards rushing in an Indy rout, 41-17.
Erik (Papillion, NE)
I like the Jets to win...but the Giants just like "The Media's Team" will get spanked this weekend.
Nick (Chicago)
don't count out Mat Linert either. (yes, i know i spelled that wrong.) He is not far fromgetting the cards to the playoffs.
Kenneth (El Centro)
Agreed, Wingo. Except make the score 59 -28 Indy
Brad (Louisiana)
Vince Young? Are we talking the QB position? I don't even think he's the best QB in that class much less the best guy...look at his QB rating
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
What's the Pulse over/under on when Rex Grossman gets benched next week? I say he's done by halftime.
THE PULSE (3:12 PM)
I'd say halftime is the O/U too. I'll go with the over.
THE PULSE (3:12 PM)
Not to say that he's going to play well.
Anthony (Cleveland)
bob ...i think the sleeper of last years draft is Kamerian Wimbley on the Browns....he had 10 sacks and he had to switch from DE to LB ...thats not easy to do in one year.
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
Q's analysis is nuts. LJ runs for over 175, Manning throws for under 300, and the Colts win? wahhh?
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Grossman will come out and have a huge game, the coaches have 2 weeks to convince him to throw short, they should get it done.
Erik (Papillion, NE)
The thing is that Vince has more than just an arm. He obviously has legs and plenty of intangibles. There's no way a bad quarterback can take an 0-5 team and then finish 8-8.
Anthony (Cleveland)
quarterback rating is so overrated...it doesnt matter as long as you can win....dont forget rushing...and most important leadership isnt factored into it...and even as a rookie he is the leader of the Titans.
THE PULSE (3:15 PM)
True, but he still completed just over 50% of his passes. That's not good.
Brad (Louisiana)
Yeah defense scores 3 touchdowns and the credit goes to Vince Young...pathetic im not trying to take anything away from him cuz he's really good but he's not everything he is cracked up to be
Aaron (Syracuse)
all this talk about LJ... you know who is really going to win it (or lose it) for the chiefs? Law, Surtain and Knight... getting LJ and Tgonz to produce is alot easier than getting the D backs to produce.
Josh (Florida)
Just like they got it done last year, Mike? Please, the Colts D is better then Grossman!
Nick (Chicago)
Bears fans should cheers for the giants.
mitchel-houston
As a huge Broncos fan let me be the first to say Brian Greise is no better than Rex. Bears have MAJOR QB issues!
Isaac (Boston)
over or under Larry gets 200 on the Indy defense?
THE PULSE (3:16 PM)
Under.
Brad (Louisiana)
Yes Wimbley will be a force...we'll talk about this draft class for years to come....absolute studs!
Brad (Louisiana)
Thank you pulse...Im glad someone realizes it....just wait and see how teams adjust to his running style...just like michael vick
Josh (Florida)
Yeah, but he's a ROOKIE! Marino, Elway, Manning, Favre, they all didn't do well in their first year. Take a chill pill with Vince Young.
THE PULSE (3:18 PM)
Please don't compare Vince Young to Marino, Elway, Manning.
Brad (Louisiana)
my bad mike vick has no leadership skills..VY does!...bad comparison but u understand what i mean
Anthony (Cleveland)
Young is a rookie!!!!!!!!!!!! you cant judge people on their rookie year... Manning would be out of the league if you did that.
Isaac (Boston)
c'mon....they gave up 153 to RON DAYNE
Wingo (Deptford, NJ)
I gotta go fellas. My liver's got 24 hours to live - much like the 10 Giants fans who show up to the Linc tomorrow. Fly Eagles fly, Ephraim, and if I see John Mara in the parking lot tomorrow I'll make to hit him once with BBQ grill rack just for you buddy!
Mike (Carbondale, IL)
Vince is going to be special TN should have been competing with Oakland and Detriot for the #1 pick...
Brad (Louisiana)
Quit drinking the Vince Young kool aid!
Nick (Chicago)
Wasn't there a bowl game today?
THE PULSE (3:20 PM)
Heck yes! Western Michigan attempting a game-tying field goal in the fourth.
THE PULSE (3:20 PM)
27-24 Cincy with 1:25 left in the fourth.
Maurice (Virginia)
I would compare Young to Randall Cunningham but it is hard to compare after one season.
Anthony (Cleveland)
Young has a better arm then Vick and is a better leader
Brent (NYC)
manning really did not become a great football player till they god rid of mr. PLAYOFFS! and brought in dungy
Josh (Florida)
Quit drinking the Jay Cutler kool aid!
Brad (Louisiana)
All I know is I'd rather have a QB who can throw all the time and leave the running to the HBs
Maurice (Virginia)
How the QB in the upcoming draft? If Russell comes out, who would you pick #1?
Anthony (Cleveland)
Brad ..why are you a Young hater?????
Aaron (Syracuse)
MAC teams are very underrated... except Buffalo.
THE PULSE (3:22 PM)
Update: WMU missed the field goal. Cincy still winning.
THE PULSE (3:23 PM)
Wow. Arkansas blowing out Alabama; Ohio State taking it to Illinois and TX Tech sticking it to Oklahoma.
Brad (Louisiana)
I dont hate Young but he is overrated
Anthony (Cleveland)
I would pick Russel over Quinn....I hear he can throw 80 yards...and 40 sitting down!!!!
Ephraim R. (Maple Shade, NJ)
nothing would be finer than the giants winning on a blown pass interference call against brian dawkins. i think that would elicit the maximum possible hystrionics from Philly.
Anthony (Cleveland)
Cutler will be good...but Elway and Favre coparisons... get real.
Brent (NYC)
didn't the head coach at cinci coach coach western michagan this year?
THE PULSE (3:24 PM)
Wow. Greg Oden with a beard. He looks about 60.
Seth (Arizona)
The Colts defense if horrible against the run. The only way they will win is if LJ is held under 100 yards and if Manning has a near perfect game
Aaron (Syracuse)
51 yards is tough
THE PULSE (3:27 PM)
Hey! Cincy wins the International Bowl! Yipee.
Erik (Papillion, NE)
Cincy wins it.
Anthony (Cleveland)
Manning will rip that secondary apart...Law isnt really a good man 2 man cover guy... he is better at zone...and you cant play zone against harrison and wayne
Maurice (Virginia)
I think I would take Russell. Let's hope my beloved Raiders think so too.
Josh (Florida)
Or if Trent Green throws 3 or 4 picks and somehow the Colts convert those to tds.
Brent (NYC)
the fridge could run for 120 against the colts run d
THE PULSE (3:28 PM)
Stevie Y. coming on the Pulse!
Nick (Chicago)
Cinci won. He beat the same team twice in the sma season with two different teams
Brad (Louisiana)
I hope Russell goes 1st but fair warning to whichever team gets him...he will definately make you nervous...I have watched him improve dramatically over the last 3 seasons and if he keeps improving look out cuz he'll be good!
Erik (Papillion, NE)
Brian Kelly was the CENTRAL Michigan coach.
Josh (Florida)
Who won a championship in college. Young or Cutler? Who would you trust? Young or Cutler? My answer: Young!
Maurice (Virginia)
Colts are 8-0 at home. For some reason, they play better there even with the bad run D.
Brent (NYC)
didn't craig krenzel win a national championship?
Maurice (Virginia)
Honestly, I would love for Russell to stay one more year and improve further.
Brad (Louisiana)
Cutler played for Vanderbilt...if they win a national championship the world will stop spinning...Vince Young played on a loaded Texas team...Think before you talk
Aaron (Syracuse)
ken dorsey won a national championship... i don't trust him.
Anthony (Cleveland)
Illinois is gonna have a great recruit class for football next year...scout.com (who do the All american game) say they have the 4th best
Josh (MInnesota)
Florida has one of the if not THE best defense in college football, I wonder why some many people are scepticle about the gators
Maurice (Virginia)
The championship argument is not a good one. Texas was a great team and Cutler played for Vandy.
Josh (Florida)
Yeah, but LJ is coming to town so it should be a very fun game to watch. I say Chiefs win 37 to 36 thanks to an LJ 67 yard touchdwon run!
mitchel-houston
Can I take one second to say that the defensive player of the year was spelled wrong. It's spelled C-H-A-M-P B-A-I-L-E-Y.
Brent (NYC)
and didn't john elway not make a bowl game?
Erik (Papillion, NE)
On the International bowl, It appeared that there were alot of fans of both teams. Much more than I would've predicted.
Jay (California)
Pick Russel....i watched that whole game....espn is right, if there wa a playoff LSU would be our champion
Anthony (Cleveland)
Josh...LSU has the best D...OSU has a better defense than Florida anyway....so how are they the best in the country if they arent even the best on the field
Anthony (Cleveland)
I think OSU LSU would be a game for the ages ...to bad it wont happen
Maurice (Virginia)
Colts played KC a couple years ago in the playoffs. KC was better and got smoked. I think it will be closer this year but I'm going with Colts and Manning.
Josh (Florida)
Cham Bailey was loaded around talent on defense. Taylor had his brother-in-law on the team with him. DPOY for sure!
Josh (Florida)
When you don't play a game for a month and a half, the steam tends to wear off. Consider that when Florida's winning in the 4th with under a minute left to play.
Erik (Ingleside, Il)
How can a Def POY be on a 6-10 team. That D underperformed big time. Obviously he wasn't good enough.
garygoldberg (seaford ny)
big east 5-0
Aaron (Syracuse)
bottom line... oakland should just pack it up. no matter who they draft or sign, they will finish 4th in the west next year... and the year after.
ryan (melrose,ma)
I just simulated the Florida-OSU game on NCAA 07. OSU won 41-38 in OT.I hope the real game lives up to the hype!
Anthony (Cleveland)
And Troy Smith has the game winning drive.Consider that when Ohio State is holding the crystal football
Maurice (Virginia)
Not so fast about LSU, USC's second half against Michigan was awesome, very similar to what LSU did to ND. It would be a close one between LSU and USC.
Nick (Chicago)
Hiseman trophy winner does not garentee you a NC......Dare I say it, Troy Smith is overated.
Jay (California)
As a Usc fan, as much as i hate LSU....they are the only team i belive that can beat OSU. Their d would murder troy smith....Lsu and OSU are the 2 best in the nation
Jay (California)
Maurice....Lsu would beat us...badly
Seth (Arizona)
Champ Bailey should have been defensive player of the year. Not only did he lead the league in interceptions but he also shut down some of the best wide recievers the game has.
bob (arkansas)
im glad jason taylors d player of the year he deserved it 2 ints and hes a d end and 4th in sacks
Anthony (Cleveland)
Troy Smith is the best big game qb in college. I didnt say he would drive a game winnig drive because he won the heisman...i siad because he did it before
Erik (Papillion, NE)
How do we know any of the 10 teams would play the same in multiple games? I think that ND, USC, and the SEC are all overrated. I don't know who would come out on top in a playoff...I'd certainly be rooting for Boise...if...
Josh (Florida)
Yeah, but who did the Phins have besides Taylor and Thomas. Without Jason Taylor, Miami would be on the clock instead of the Raiders.
Nick (Chicago)
When did ESPN hire this girl? I've never seen her before!
THE PULSE (3:47 PM)
It's Swin Cash! Former UConn player, plays for the Detroit Shock. Good player and good analyst.
Seth (Arizona)
The Dallas Mavericks are the team to beat this year. I have the Mavs vs. the Suns in the Western Conf. Finals.
mitchel-houston
Good point Seth. Not to mention he had 10 picks when they only throw to his side of the field 3 or 4 times a game.
Nick (Chicago)
The sixers should but out C-Webb's contract. He can't play good ball anymore.
Brad (Louisiana)
SEC overrated? PPPPLLLLEEEAAAASSSSEEEEE come play my Tigers with that Boise team Please!
Maurice (Virginia)
Both Bailey and Taylor aren't in the playoffs. I wouldn't have selected Merriman either but there has to be some good defensive players on the playoff teams.
Anthony (Cleveland)
Even if there was a playoff Boise would have no shot...they used everything they got to beat Oklahoma...they wouldnt have a shot against OSU,LSU,USC,or Michigan or Florida
Jay (California)
Sec is the best conference, then the big ten
THE PULSE (3:51 PM)
OK everybody. We've got the College Gameday crew previewing the LSU-UConn game later tonight.
Maurice (Virginia)
LSU-UCONN is a good game but what about the mid-majors, AF-UNLV.
chandler (Virginia)
Saban betrayed all of Miami and pretty soon he'll betray all of Alabama
THE PULSE (3:55 PM)
Enjoy the Gameday preview. Talk to you all next week!
