Ben (Tallahassee)
Hey Buzz, you there?
Buzzmaster (12:16 PM)
I'm here! I've already downed 2 Krispy Kreme's so we're off and running ..
Ben (Tallahassee)
Buzz, did you get re-stocked on Krispy Kremes for today?
Buzzmaster (12:18 PM)
Yes.. there are 21 boxes sitting directly to my right ... we're locked and loaded.
Buzzmaster (12:19 PM)
The players are just getting out of meetings so we hope to have someone joining us soon.
Brandon: (Fort Bragg, NC)
Looks like it will be raining this Saturday.
Buzzmaster (12:20 PM)
That's no good. It's beautiful today. The clouds are gone and the sun is shining.
Brandon: (Fort Bragg, NC)
Buzz, can you tell me if my seats will be pretty good ones? Section F, Row 23?
Buzzmaster (12:21 PM)
Those are pretty good .. but you can move down .. I won't tell anyone.
Buzzmaster (12:22 PM)
We have Florida WR Dallas Baker and Florida State WR Chris Davis in our sights .. we'll try and wrangle them up.
Buzzmaster (12:24 PM)
Jonathan Wade from Tennessee is here!
Joe (Orlando)
Do you have any free time at all in Mobile?
Jonathan Wade (12:25 PM)
We have a little free time but it is what you make of it. I spend most of my time watching film.
John Champan
What is a typical day like for you leading up to the draft? How much do you work out? Are you on a strict diet?
Jonathan Wade (12:26 PM)
I start working out at 11 and keep going until lunch at 1:30. I come back right after lunch for a second workout. I don't get back to the house until about 5. I might watch a little TV for an hour and eat dinner. Then its time for bed.
Devlin (S. Carolina)
What has it been like working with an NFL coaching staff? Is it very different from college?
Jonathan Wade (12:27 PM)
It's a little different. The personalities are different. They are just different people. A coaches job is to instruct you and just help you be the best you can be.
Steven, TX
Which team are you picking in the Super Bowl?
Jonathan Wade (12:27 PM)
I like Peyton since he is a Tennessee boy. But I was a big fan of Chicago all season. I just want a good game. I don't have a favorite but if I had to pick I would pick Indianapolis!
Jonathan Wade (12:27 PM)
Thanks for the questions!
Buzzmaster (12:28 PM)
Auburn DB David Irons is here!
David
So how has the week been for you?
David Irons (12:29 PM)
It has been great. I've beeing doing very well in one on ones. My week has been great. I'm doing a great job being around the ball and making plays.
Matt (Tallahassee, FL)
Any predictions on next years BCS Championship game?
David Irons (12:30 PM)
It's going to be Auburn vs. Louisville! Louisville will edge us out by 3 points.
Brandon: (Fort Bragg, NC)
How cool would it be if you and your brother got drafted by the same team or would you rather compete against him?
David Irons (12:31 PM)
I'd rather compete against him. I don't want him on the same team. He's not the prettiest guy to look at. If he had some pom poms and was on the sidelines cheering for me, that might be OK. He could huddle up with all the other cheerleaders and do a little dance for me.
Jordan (D-Town, Tx)
Who is one of the toughest WR's to cover in practice?
David Irons (12:32 PM)
I would say it was Courtney Taylor. He's just very physical and runs great routes. Dwayne Bowe and Johnnie Lee Higgins are great.
Brandon: (Fort Bragg, NC)
Weather.com says 60% chance of ran for Mobile Alabama on Saturday.
David Irons (12:33 PM)
I don't care if it rains. It it rains I'll just have a little mud bath in the middle of the field. Hopefully the rain can wash away my brother's ugly face.
Brandon: (Factoryville, PA)
Do you guys get compared to the Barber brothers at all? Kenny would be Tiki, and you would be Ronde?
David Irons (12:34 PM)
I don't want to be compared to nobody. I want to be compared to myself. I think our games is above their game. They are great, exceptional players but Kenny and I have an advantage playing so long together and we can make a big impact. We will come in right off the bat and contribute to an NFL team.
Chris (Tampa, FL)
David, what kind of defensive system do you see yourself fitting into best?
David Irons (12:35 PM)
A lot of press man, cover 2, etc. I need a breather every now and then. But I can make plays in any system.
Ryan (hartford)
Is their a certain team you want to be drafted by?
David Irons (12:36 PM)
I would like to go to the Broncos. Champ Bailey. I'm a huge fan of his. That's why I wore 4 .. I watched him when he was in college. I was trying to play both ways this year but we had this guy named Kenny. The coaches were all about Kenny. I would love to play with Champ and be a 1-2 punch.
Raymond (Baltimore)
Confident, I like that, thats wassup... What do you think are your strengths/weaknesses? What have you been trying to showcase down there this week?? Good Luck son
David Irons (12:37 PM)
My strength is man coverage .. I can run with anyone. My weakness is off man .. I was never taught that. I would have to get used to that. The 49ers coaches have been helping me a lot with that. It's something I can work on in the offseason. Once I get that down I will be a complete player.
jeff nj
any bet with your brother as to who gets drafted first?
David Irons (12:38 PM)
Yeah, there is a bet. I told Kenny if I go first he has to go to a spa and get his face redone. It's not the prettiest thing you are going to see on draft day. If he goes first, I have to get my teeth fixed. We have some money riding on it as well, but I won't say how much. We'll see on draft day.
Jake (Scranton, PA)
Many scouts have you climbing up the draft board. You look really good in practices. What is one area the coaches at Senior Bowl week have helped you out in the most?
David Irons (12:40 PM)
Basically my off man coverage. A lot of people didn't know how fast and explosive I was until they saw me here. This is a business trip to me to show off what I can do. I proved this week what I can do and now I just want to finish out strong. There are 32 teams out there so I just need to open one person's eye.
Tyler East Longmeadow Ma
What do you think your brother's biggest weakness is?
David Irons (12:40 PM)
His biggest weakness is being ugly. And his blocking. He has to learn how to take on blocks. Those LBs are huge in the NFL and he has to take them on.
David Irons (12:41 PM)
His hands need to be more consistent. He doesn't need somebody else coming in to do his job on third down. He needs a little more weight under his belt. His biggest weakness though is not being as pretty as his brother.
Ryan ((LA))
Hey David can you now admit that you were holding Craig Davis at the end of the LSU game? There is photographic evidence.
David Irons (12:42 PM)
That wasn't me in that situation. If you watched the game, they didn't throw my way the whole game. They stayed away from me. I didn't have anything to do with that. I don't need to hold any SEC WR's. Ask Dwayne Bowe who was the most feared DB he went against.
Raymond (Baltimore)
Yo David, who is older??
David Irons (12:42 PM)
I'm older than Kenny. He's an infant.
Brien (NC)
So Kenny is really that ugly? Does that hurt his draft stock?
David Irons (12:43 PM)
Brien, you hit it on the head. If the draft was by looks, I would be No. 1. His ugliness is really hurting his draft stock.
David Irons (12:43 PM)
He might be drafted into the Ugly Bowl.
Jake (Scranton, PA)
Do you ever get tired of the Kenny questions?
David Irons (12:44 PM)
I get tired of it. But I don't mind. I just want everybody to recognize my talent. That is why I came here to the Senior Bowl. I do get tired of everybody talking about Kenny because he is an offensive guy. But just watch how I cover guys. Nobody threw to my side until about the 11th game of the season.
Danny (Philly)
Whats up Kenny? What have people been telling you as far as where you will go in the draft?
David Irons (12:45 PM)
Nobody has been telling me anything. I'm just going to keep working. You never know what will happen on draft day. I don't want to get too hyped up. I'll say somewhere between the 7th and 10th round. How's that? I'm the real deal Holyfield.
David Irons (12:46 PM)
If my name was Quentin Moses I would say first round. But I'm not him.
Quentin Moses (12:46 PM)
David, you are jinxing me.
Buzzmaster (12:46 PM)
What up Quentin!
Danny (Philly)
Quentin what do you think was the biggest problem this year in your game? You claearly have the talent.
Quentin Moses (12:49 PM)
I just want to get stronger in the weight room. That's what I'm working on right now. You can always work on your fundamentals.
jeff nj
Q you gonna come sack tom brady for us jet fans?
Quentin Moses (12:49 PM)
Everytime I touch the field I'm trying to sack somebody. So sure.
Chris (Tampa, FL)
What's it like for you to work with NFL coaches this week?
Quentin Moses (12:53 PM)
It's been a great experience. The coaches are really trying to teach us about the next level. My position coach is providing a lot of energy and positive encouragement. Just being here a week I have learned a lot of things I didn't know about. Some tips, pointers, etc. It's been very exciting.
Danny (Philly)
Has any one aproached you about playing outside in a 3-4?
Quentin Moses (12:54 PM)
I weighed in kind of light so a lot of coaches have been talking about the notion but I have been a DE my entire career. I need to put some weight on to stay a DE but if that's the case, I would be willing to play anywhere. I just want the opportunity.
Jon (DC)
Quentin, is Kenny Irons really as ugly as David says he is?
Quentin Moses (12:54 PM)
Well, I don't actually think so. I think they look alike. If David is calling Kenny ugly, he's basically calling himself ugly.
David Irons (12:55 PM)
Kenny looks like a broke down Bobby Brown.
Jake (Scranton, PA)
Quentin, Do you have a favorite NFL team or favorite NFL player?
Quentin Moses (12:56 PM)
Atlanta Falcons. I've been in Georgia all my life. Julius Peppers is my favorite player.
Austin (Texas)
Quentin,Who is the player that has surprised you the most with his play? Who has given you the best look?
Quentin Moses (12:58 PM)
I could go down the list. I've had the opportunity to work with so many elite athletes. Things you only see once in a while in practice during the year happen all the time here.
Steve (Akron)
What was it like trying to bring down Jamarcus Russell? That guy is huge.
Quentin Moses (12:58 PM)
He's definitely one of the biggest and strongest QBs in the conference. It's hard to bring him down on your own. Usually takes 2 or 3 guys.
Andy (Ann Arbor, MI)
Won't it be cool to get to play as yourself in Madden next year?
David Irons (12:59 PM)
That will be cool playing as yourself and having your friends play as you. I will play myself at QB, RB, DE, everything. I'll make sure I'm the MVP every year. If I'm not, I'll throw it away.
Larry (Austin)
Bowe said the best CB he faced was Chris Houston?
David Irons (1:01 PM)
That little junior? From Arkansas? Not do down him, but he is not on my level. I'm one of the best in the SEC. Dwayne Bowe is here. You can see my one on ones against him on the NFL Network. You can see for yourself.
Mike (AR)
How do you think the Bulldogs are going to do next year?
Quentin Moses (1:02 PM)
They will be successful. They have a great leader and the defense is always strong. They have a great trio of RBs coming back so they will be successful.
Cameron (Choctaw,OK)
Quentin what team would you say was the best team you faced while playing?
Quentin Moses (1:03 PM)
Being in the SEC it's tough to say. Every year you face a tough Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU .. it's so strong every week. You think you've seen the best team and then you see a better one the following week.
Quentin Moses (1:03 PM)
Thanks for the questions!
David Irons (1:04 PM)
Best of luck to everyone. God Bless. Keep your eyes and ears open for me. If any single ladies out there, feel free to hit me up on MySpace.
Buzzmaster (1:05 PM)
Thanks, guys!
Steve (Akron)
David Irons was money. He should play for the Browns. He will be my favorite player.
Phil (Cleveland)
The big question now is was that Kenny Irons using David's name?
Buzzmaster (1:07 PM)
HA .. no .. at least I don't think so. Good question.
Raymond (Baltimore)
yea.. David was madd funny, I probably almost got fired laughing so loud
Buzzmaster (1:08 PM)
We're searching for Kenny so he can have his rebuttal on the ugly issue.
Jordan
Buzz, when are you going to have Eric Weddle?
Buzzmaster (1:09 PM)
This afternoon.
Chris, Fargo - ND
Be sure to tell Kenny he'd look good in Orange and Blue in the NFL as well; playin' for the Broncs!
Buzzmaster (1:12 PM)
Le'Ron McClain and Ken Darby are here !
mike - ca
If you had the #1 pick how would you take?
Le'Ron McClain (1:13 PM)
I'd take Jamarcus Russell.
Ken Darby (1:13 PM)
Ken Darby!
Dean (MS)
Which one is smarter?
Le'Ron McClain (1:13 PM)
I'm smarter than Ken. No question.
Jeff (Tuscaloosa)
Ken, did you ever run over David Irons in a game? That must have been satisfying if you did.
Ken Darby (1:14 PM)
I never got the chance. He avoided me a lot.
Chris ( Scottsdale, AZ)
Yo Le'ron..i heard you've been killing the senior practices...what would you say is your strength... catching out the back field...blocking for Ken..or taking some carries from the HB?
Le'Ron McClain (1:15 PM)
Blocking. Just pancaking a guy!
Mike (NYC)
Did you get to meet Coach Saban?
Ken Darby (1:15 PM)
I never got a chance to meet the guy.
Chris, Fargo - ND
Le'Ron, are there any fullbacks past or present you would compare yourself to. Howard Griffith seems to fit you well, versatile, not to mention excellent as a receiver out of the backfield. Old school!
Le'Ron McClain (1:16 PM)
Lorenzo Neal for blocking. Deuce McAllister for my runnning and catching.
Mike (Florence, MS)
Ken, is the Senior Bowl experience a little more comfortable since it's in Alabama?
Ken Darby (1:16 PM)
Yeah, it's been easier but not more comfortable. We have lots of fans down here and I can't give them all the attention I would like to give them.
John (Orlando)
I heard the South team is a killer this year, is that true?
Le'Ron McClain (1:17 PM)
Oh yeah. A lot of SEC players so we're a killer team. We are planning on winning this game.
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Jessica Alba or Beyonce?
Ken Darby (1:17 PM)
Both if I could.
Le'Ron McClain (1:17 PM)
I like Beyonce.
Travis (Texas)
How many bags of Under Armor have you guys gotten this week??
Le'Ron McClain (1:18 PM)
Too much stuff!
Ken Darby (1:18 PM)
A lot!
Brandon (L.A.)
How would you evaluate Dwayne Bowe?
Le'Ron McClain (1:19 PM)
The best receiver down here. He is probably the best receiver in the draft. That boy can play ball.
Mike (AR)
Best QB at practice?
Le'Ron McClain (1:19 PM)
Chris Leak.
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Bears or Colts?
Le'Ron McClain (1:19 PM)
Bears! Mark Anderson!
Ken Darby (1:20 PM)
Bears!
Michael (Dallas)
Any friendly competition between you and the Auburn guys in practice?
Ken Darby (1:21 PM)
We're just out here having fun and trying to get better.
BT (Yotes Country)
Whats the deal with Ken Crying on the sidelines after the loss to Tennessee
Ken Darby (1:21 PM)
I don't remember ever crying after no Tennessee game.
Le'Ron McClain (1:22 PM)
I was.
Mike (Florence, MS)
Has coach Nolan given you any words of wisdom to help at the NFL level?
Le'Ron McClain (1:22 PM)
He told to just keep catching the ball.
Ken Darby (1:22 PM)
Just to keep working hard.
Jeff (Tuscaloosa)
What was the thing you guys will remember most about going to Bama?
Le'Ron McClain (1:23 PM)
The nightlife on weekends!
Ken Darby (1:23 PM)
My teammates and the fans.
BT (Yotes Country)
Dont deny the cry
Ken Darby (1:24 PM)
Exactly what game was I crying at? The Tennessee game? No. I wasn't crying after no Tennessee game. Don't get me mixed up with the fullback.
Le'Ron McClain (1:24 PM)
I ain't no fullback. I do it all.
Ken Darby (1:24 PM)
Whatever makes you feel better man.
John (Boston)
If you hadnt played for Alabama, who would you play for?
Le'Ron McClain (1:25 PM)
I would have played at Alabama AandM .. I wanted to go to a black college.
Ken Darby (1:25 PM)
LSU.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Did that Tennessee dog Smokey really bite Mike McCou?
Le'Ron McClain (1:27 PM)
Yes, right on his behind.
Travis (Texas)
If you had your choice of what team drafted you...where would you like to go?
Le'Ron McClain (1:27 PM)
I'd go to the Bengals.
Ken Darby (1:27 PM)
The Texans.
Michael (Dallas)
What are your favorite hobbies?
Le'Ron McClain (1:27 PM)
I like to shop and play video games.
Ken Darby (1:28 PM)
You're a Playstation junkie.
Ken Darby (1:28 PM)
I like to shop, watch movies and just go out to nice restaurants.
Brad (BIRMINGHAM, AL)
How does it feel to go 0-5 against your biggest rival? Do you think you will ever win a rivalry game again. You talked a lot before the game. Haven't heard you talk much since.
Le'Ron McClain (1:29 PM)
What sport do you play?
JKlipp (Milwaukee, WI)
What's your take on Coach Saban? Did he talk to you guys at all? What is the teams impression on how he left Miami?
Le'Ron McClain (1:29 PM)
Never spoke to him.
Dean MS
Hey guys - who's uglier? Common - tell the truth!
Le'Ron McClain (1:30 PM)
Ken
Ken Darby (1:30 PM)
Le'Ron. He knows how handsome I am.
BT (Yotes Country)
Ken...every man cries. Its ok.
Ken Darby (1:30 PM)
OK. If you say I cried, I cried. Fine. OK.
Ken Darby (1:31 PM)
I'm not like Le'Ron. I'm not all emotional and sensitive.
Will (Atlanta)
Brad was right, Le'Ron. You both mouthed off big time before playing Auburn, and couldn't back it up. Why not be man enough to admit it now?
Le'Ron McClain (1:32 PM)
Nobody from Auburn could stop me. I blocked everyone that came my way. I'd block you to ... right to sleep.
Mike(NJ)
Le'Ron why should you be the first FB taken above Brian Leonard?
Le'Ron McClain (1:32 PM)
You tell me.
mike (ca)
Best player in the NFL, if you had to pick one to start your team?
Ken Darby (1:33 PM)
LT and Shaun Alexander. Shawn Merriman. I could give you a whole list.
Le'Ron McClain (1:33 PM)
DeMeco Ryans.
Chris (Tulsa)
Le'Ron, is it more gratifying to score a touchdown yourself or lay a crushing block on a linebacker to spring your running back for a TD?
Le'Ron McClain (1:34 PM)
Laying a crushing block on a LB!
Travis (Texas)
What will you guys do with your first big NFL payday??
Le'Ron McClain (1:35 PM)
I need a car.
Ben (Tallahassee)
What music do yall listen to before a game?
Le'Ron McClain (1:35 PM)
I listen to slow jams.
Ken Darby (1:35 PM)
I listen to RandB and hip hop.
Ken Darby (1:36 PM)
Le'Ron you want a donut?
Le'Ron McClain (1:36 PM)
I don't want no donut!
JKlipp (Milwaukee, WI)
Which one of you is gonna be rated higher in Madden???
Ken Darby (1:36 PM)
Me.
Le'Ron McClain (1:36 PM)
I'd say Ken. But I'd be lying.
Austin (Diego)
Ken and Le'Ron, you guys had to choose, what would it be; Benz, Escalade, or Bently?
Le'Ron McClain (1:37 PM)
Escalade.
Ken Darby (1:37 PM)
Bentley coup. Black.
Ken Darby (1:38 PM)
I gotta run. Thanks for the questions. Whoever that dude was that said I was crying.. go get some kleenex.
Le'Ron McClain (1:38 PM)
See ya . .thanks for the questions.
Matt (Chicago)
Buzz those guys were hilarious.
Buzzmaster (1:40 PM)
SEC has some funny dudes. Too bad we can't chat with them during the season. The SEC has a rule against players doing live interviews.
Atty (Del Mar)
How come nobody ever says they listen to 80's jams to get pumped up before a game?
Buzzmaster (1:42 PM)
Good question.
Ben (Tallahassee)
Buzz, how come Le'Ron didnt want a donut?
Buzzmaster (1:43 PM)
Some players are just anti-donut. It's sorry to see. But they so seem to be more popular today .. already down to 14 boxes ..
JC (ca)
we want Mel....
Buzzmaster (1:45 PM)
Mel will be back tomorrow at 1 ET .. FYI, today is probably the last day for player chats .. but we'll have Mel and Todd McShay on tomorrow to break down who shined this week and give the latest on the NFL draft...
Raymond (Baltimore)
What do the players do tomorrow Buzz??
Buzzmaster (1:47 PM)
They have a walk-through in the morning and then they are visiting the Children's Hospital. Then it is straight to the Fan Frenzy function and then a Meet The Players function and then the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame induction ceremony. They've got a full day planned.
Brandon: (Fort Bragg, NC)
Buzz, Who has been the coolest guy to hang out with so far?
Buzzmaster (1:48 PM)
Well, David Irons hugged me about 4 times so I'm gonna go with him.
Raymond (Baltimore)
Buzz, how close are the players (physically) when more then one are chatting simultaneously?
Buzzmaster (1:50 PM)
I stay between them in case there are any fisticuffs.
Ike (NYC)
Buzz, you going out to party with any of the players tonight?
Buzzmaster (1:51 PM)
If they are partying at Dreamland B-B-Q, then yes.
Billy (Baton Rouge)
Hey Buzz, are we going to get Dwayne Bowe?
Buzzmaster (1:54 PM)
We're working on it.
Buzzmaster (1:58 PM)
Trying to track down Todd McShay to give us the lowdown from this morning's North squad practice ..
Todd McShay (2:02 PM)
Hello. It's finally warm here. The pads came off and a lot more concentration on special teams today. What came out of that was that Mason Crosby, the highly touted kicker, continues to struggle with his accuracy on FGs. And with his length on kickoffs.
Jim Oh
Todd, how did Troy Smith look in this mornings practice, have heard conflicting reports on him this week?
Todd McShay (2:03 PM)
He was erratic. He was not as consistent as he has been the rest of the week. He missed on several throws during 7 on 7 and team drills. I'd say overall, if you were to put a grade on his performance this week, it would be a B. Not an A.
Mohamed (Newark, DE)
Who do you think is the top corner in this years draft? Thank you!
Todd McShay (2:05 PM)
I still think it is Leon Hall from Michigan. This isn't necessarily the best forum for him to showcase his skills. He doesn't have elite speed. But he is the most complete DB in this year's class. I could see him coming off the board in the top 15 picks.
Todd McShay (2:05 PM)
CB and QB are two of the least talented positions in the draft. The overall QB play here this week has left a lot to be desired.
Jeremy (Bellevue)
Hey Todd, is David Irons showing some skills down there? He is talking like he is!
Todd McShay (2:06 PM)
Maybe he is doing the talking for his brother who is a much better pro prospect. Irons is a decent CB but he won't hear his name called on the first day. He might be quieter on the last Sunday of April.
Steve (Akron)
What exactly happende with Pitcock the other day at practice? I heard he got in a skirmish.
Todd McShay (2:07 PM)
Yeah, it is not uncommon though. It was absolutely under control. The one-on-one drill between OL and DL are always the most intense part of senior bowl practices. The added element of 400 NFL scouts standing around you tends to jack up the intensity level a couple notches.
Todd McShay (2:09 PM)
Going back to Irons .. Buzzmaster is the David Irons of food ..
Travis (Ft Worth, TX)
Were we just spoiled with last years QB draft choices?
Todd McShay (2:10 PM)
Yeah, to a certain degree. I think that we have two very good ones in Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn but obviously neither is here this week. Last year, there was Matt Leinart, Vince Young and Jay Cutler and at least Jay Cutler was practicing during the week of the Senior Bowl which game us an elite QB to set the bar by.
Todd McShay (2:11 PM)
This year's elite QBs that are here are Drew Stanton and Troy Smith but the highest either will go is in the second round.
Andrew (Vienna, VA)
Hi Todd, there seem to be mixed reports about Utah DB Eric Weddle's performance this week. Has it just been an up and down week for Weddle? Or at the end of the day will he have improved his draft status?
Todd McShay (2:12 PM)
I think he has had a great week. I think he has solidified himself as a first day prospect and a player with legitimate potential to emerge as a starting safety in the NFL.
Todd McShay (2:12 PM)
I'm getting ready to write an article on the players who helped and hurt himself the most and he will be in the list that helped himself.
Ben (Tallahassee)
Do you think that Buster Davis will be as productive in the pros as he was in college?
Todd McShay (2:14 PM)
It's going to be tough to be a 90 tackle LB in the pros. But I wouldn't write him off as a future starter just yet. We've seen in the past guys like London Fletcher and Sam Mills that can overcome marginal height and just decent speed. When it is all said and done, Buster Davis will be in that mold and prove a lot of people wrong.
cj (green bay)
who hurt themselves the most this week?
Todd McShay (2:15 PM)
Tylre Palko and Jordan Palmer stood out ot me as players that had their weaknesses exposed during practice this week.
Todd McShay (2:15 PM)
It's also too bad that Garrett Wolfe got injured. He missed an opportunity he needed.
Travis (Texas)
Todd, since you say that the DB and QB position are the least talented. What position do you think is the deepest and most talented this year??
Todd McShay (2:16 PM)
WR. But the problem is the majority of the top guys are juniors. Dwayne Bowe is the top senior receiver and he has played like it this week.
Matt (Montgomery, AL)
How has WR Courtney Taylor looked in practice this week? When is he projected to go in the draft?
Todd McShay (2:17 PM)
He just doesn't stand out in any one area to be honest. He has been consistent in terms of catching the ball and he runs decent routes.
Ben (Tallahassee)
Who do you think will be the first defensive player taken in the draft?
Todd McShay (2:19 PM)
My best guess would be Alan Branch, DT from Michigan. He could go as high as No. 3 to the Cleveland Browns and I would be shocked if he fell below No. 9 to the Dolphins.
Todd McShay (2:20 PM)
The other two that could sneak ahead of him depending on workouts would be DEs Gaines Adams and Jamaal Anderson.
Jamie (Sioux Falls, SD)
Is Brian Leonard's future at FB or RB?
Todd McShay (2:21 PM)
I think at FB in a system that maximizes his versatility. He is never going to be a premier back in the NFL. He never was in college. At 224 lbs, he's certainly not a traditional isolation blocking FB either. I think you will see him used a lot like Patrick Pass for the Patriots a couple years ago.
Neil (Raleigh, NC)
Who do you think is better between Jamaal Andersond and Gaines Adams. Where do you think they'll go?
Todd McShay (2:23 PM)
Right now I have Adams rated one spot ahead of Anderson. But in all honesty, I'm still evaluating Anderson. He just declared a week ago and it was somewhat unexpected. As is the case with all the juniors, you don't have the complete package of information regarding size and speed that you have with seniors. I also want to watch more film on Anderson before I rank him No. 1 DE in the class. From what I have seen so far, with his 13.5 sacks and 270 lbs, I think Anderson has a real good chance to get drafted ahead of Adams when it is all said and done.
Ben (Tallahassee)
Todd, have you been taking advantage of all the Kripy Kremes they got there?
Todd McShay (2:24 PM)
I haven't had one all week. My wife will be happy with that. But we have Krispy Kreme in Boston so it's not as big a lure to me as some people.
Todd McShay (2:24 PM)
I've come to grips with the fact I can't eat them anymore. If I eat one, no telling how many I will finish with.
Brandon: (Fort Bragg, NC)
Tony Hunt is a workhorse back. He needs a number of carries to wear down defenses. How can he help his stock playing in the senior bowl when we all know he won't get enough carries.
Todd McShay (2:27 PM)
I wouldn't worry about the game. The practices are way more important. We have plenty of film of Hunt to see what he can do. He has done nothing but help himself this week. He showed up at 239 lbs, which is about 15 lbs heavier than his recorded weight. But he has looked just as quick and it seems to be good weight that he has added to his body. He will not be an elusive back that makes defenders miss, but he shows great burst and is a straight line runner. He catches the ball well on short routes out of the backfield. I think this week has helped solidify Hunt as one of the top 6 RBs in the draft and should go on the first day of the draft.
Todd McShay (2:28 PM)
Thanks for the questions. I'll be back tomorrow with a wrap-up for the week. And I'll have a full report of Buzz's performance at Dreamland tonight.
Buzzmaster (2:28 PM)
Thanks, Todd!
Buzzmaster (2:29 PM)
OK, there is a chicken fried steak with my name on it so Senior Bowl Guy is going to take over for a few minutes.
Senior Bowl Guy (2:30 PM)
Was David Irons funny or what?
Mike (Chicago)
We missed you SBG - so what's the most embarassing thing Buzz has done so far?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:31 PM)
His awkward hug with David Irons.
Willie (Portland, OR)
SBG what's your take on the Reggie Bush situation?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:33 PM)
Doesn't look good, but let's see what finally out of the investigation.
Chris (Weatherford, TX)
How are Michael Griffin and Aaron Ross doing in practice this week?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:34 PM)
Griffin and Ross are getting some good buzz, but Ross is clearly the favorite of the two among most scouts.
Steve (Akron)
Who has emerged as a leader on the field this week at practice?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:35 PM)
When it comes to leadership, Ryan Kalil's name gets mentioned a lot.
Will (Minny via AZ)
So how many shady agents are strolling around there? You know the guys that look like Cousin Eddy from Vegas Vacation...
Senior Bowl Guy (2:37 PM)
Agents, fans, autograph hounds, media types, players, coaches, scouts and more stroll around Mobile. But things are calming down. Lots of team representatives leave town on Thursday.
Cody (Houston)
How is Adrian Peterson doing in the practices?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:38 PM)
The Senior Bowl is for seniors only. AD left after his junior season, so he's not here.
Russ (Dyersville)
Do the autography hounds really hound you a lot, SBG?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:38 PM)
Nah, they prefer Buzz.
Joe (Houston)
SBG, how are the UTEP players doing?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:41 PM)
Haven't heard a lot of buzz on Johnnie Lee Higgins from the scouts, but he impressed David Irons.Reports are mixed on Jordan Palmer.
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
How's my boy from Hawaii doing?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:42 PM)
Samson Satele has had a good week.
Mike (AR)
Is Tony Ugoh still living up to expectations? Go Hogs!
Senior Bowl Guy (2:44 PM)
According to some scouts, Ugoh had a bad practice on Wednesday. That can hurt him, but he's a probable first-round pick.
Greg (Dallas)
How about Dwayne Bowe?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:46 PM)
Stud. Having a very good week. Bowe is definitely one of the guys standing out in Mobile.
Greg (Dallas)
When will we get to chat with Bowe?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:47 PM)
Hopefully, he'll stop by this afternoon. South guys are practicing now.
Russ (Dyersville)
What's on the menu today, SBG?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:48 PM)
Chicken fried steak, black-eyed peas, mashed taters, mac and cheese and a dinner roll. Tasty, huh?
Todd (Orlando, FL)
How much has Garrett Wolfe's stock dropped since he was injured?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:50 PM)
The lost opportunity hurts more than the injury. Wolfe needed to prove himself to the scouts on the practice field.
Randy (Washington, DC)
Not that anyone besides me cares, but who has been the most impressive punter thus far?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:51 PM)
Easy answer. Daniel Sepulveda from Baylor.
Jerry Savannah,Ga
Has the late addition of TE Ben Patrick surprised some scouts?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:52 PM)
I don't know if surprised is the right word. But it is fair to say that Patrick made the most of his opportunity yesterday.
Mike (AR)
Most impressive defensive lineman so far?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:54 PM)
Nebraska DE Adam Carriker is getting some nice buzz.
GO IRISH(AR)
VICTOR ABIJAMIRI IS THE NEXT SAPP
Senior Bowl Guy (2:54 PM)
Hmmmm. wonder what team Go Irish roots for?
ed (boston)
what do you think of tyler palko?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:56 PM)
It doesn't matter what I think. The word from the scouts hasn't been that good. And that does matter.
Senior Bowl Guy (2:56 PM)
Buzz is eating more donuts.
Brice, GA.
What about Tim Duckworth and Ben Grubbs?Tell the 5 tigers War Eagle!
Senior Bowl Guy (2:57 PM)
Grubbs is one of the stars of the week. From what I hear, Duckworth had a better practice on Wednesday.
Steven Kimberly, Idaho
Do you see a position that is deeper than most?
Senior Bowl Guy (2:59 PM)
Seem to be some quality linemen and DBs in town.
Senior Bowl Guy (3:01 PM)
Some of the North guys are rolling into the meeting room across the way from us. Buzz might try to sneak in there.
Chris (Denver)
How is Mason Crosby doing down there
Senior Bowl Guy (3:02 PM)
Well. He's booming his kicks. Kiper had Crosby as one of his six top performers on Wednesday.
Mike (AR)
Seen Gruden blow up on anybody yet?
Senior Bowl Guy (3:04 PM)
No. But he did walk over and give Tyler Palko the stare while the Pitt QB was doing a radio interview. Let's just say that interview lasted about as long as a donut lasts in front of Buzz.
Senior Bowl Guy (3:06 PM)
Buzz is on his way back. Talk to you guys later.
Mike (AR)
Thanks SBG....welcome back Buzz. How was the chicken fried steak?
Buzzmaster (3:09 PM)
Tasty. OK, things are pretty quite around here at the moment but we still expect Eric Weddle to stop by and the South practice will be wrapping up before long so we hope to have some of those guys visiting as well.
Russ (Dyersville)
How's Weddle performing this week?
Buzzmaster (3:11 PM)
Todd McShay tells us he has had a great week and really helped himself.
tom* (parville, md)
How's the cold?
Buzzmaster (3:13 PM)
It's gone! Beautiful day today. As a matter of fact, the sun is shining so bright it's hard to see the computer screen.
Chris (Boston)
Thats good Buzz, enjoy the warmth, because its freakin freezing up here
Jack (GA)
Wasnt David Irons very over confident?
Buzzmaster (3:17 PM)
Better than being under confident.
Dave (PA)
Buzz, are you going down to Miami for Super Bowl week right after the Senior Bowl is over?
Buzzmaster (3:19 PM)
Yup. Hoppin' a plane this weekend. I'll resurface from Media Day on Tuesday.
Sundance (Pittsburgh)
Buzz, Whats the deal with the Brady Quinn not being in the senior bowl? you buy the knee injury?
Buzzmaster (3:21 PM)
I'm not buyin' it.
Ben (Denver)
wait, does that mean you won't have the morning buzz on monday?
Buzzmaster (3:22 PM)
Oh yeah, I'll be there Monday morning. Just meant Media Day will be our first real Super Bowl type chat.
ryan (melrose,ma)
are you there Buzz?
Buzzmaster (3:28 PM)
I'm here.
Neal (Philly)
Is Alabama affecting you that much? You're moving at a southern pace.
Buzzmaster (3:30 PM)
All the players are in meeting so it's very quiet at the moment. Just ate another Krispy Kreme for an energy boost.
owen (okemos, michigan)
please, get troy smith!
Buzzmaster (3:34 PM)
Troy was here yesterday for a few minutes. Nice guy.
Brian (Mobile)
Buzz, Is Carson Palmer there watching his little brother? I heard that rumor.
Buzzmaster (3:35 PM)
Haven't seen him.
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Is Mike Lombardi from the Raiders there? He wouldn't know talent if it punched him in the face
Buzzmaster (3:38 PM)
Wow!
Steve (Akron)
Buzz, have you ever tried to crash a meeting and pretend you are one of the players?
Buzzmaster (3:38 PM)
That would be like crashing science class.. why would you want to?
Brandon ( Not very warm USA)
Mike Lombardi couldn't engineer himself out of a wet paper bag!
Talent (Everywhere)
I've given left hooks to M. Lombardi and Matt Millen, none of those guys seem to recognize me
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Mike Lombardi and Matt Millen make Isiah Thomas look like Albert Einstein
Brandon ( Not very warm USA)
Mike Lombardi and Matt Milen couldn't pour sand out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel
Chris (Detroit)
Quit harping on Matt Millen - to everyone outside of Detroit (especially in Chicago, Minnesota, and Green Bay) he is a hero!
Buzzmaster (3:48 PM)
The South players should start getting back from practice here any minute so we hope to have another round of players stopping by ..
Nate (Madison)
More SEC...ughhhh. Dry heave.
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Troy Smith = Terry Baker, John Huarte, Gary Beban, Pat Sullivan, Andre Ware, Gino Torretta, Danny Wuerffel, Chris Weinke, Eric Crouch and Jason White
Matt (FL)
Get Leak, we need to speak, about his peak, during championship weak, he made OSU's defense look meek, now the nfl he seeks
Matt (Cinci)
Chris Leak = will never take a snap in an NFL game
Brandon ( Not very warm USA)
Have you had Chansi Stuckey on yet?
Buzzmaster (3:54 PM)
Yesterday.
Matt (FL)
Your right, it will be hard for him to throw the football in the NFL with all that bling on his finger
Andy (Lafayette)
SEC = minor leage system for NFL
Steve (Long Island, NY)
Chris Leak isn't 6 foot. He isn't fast, and he doesn't have a good arm. He's not an NFL QB.
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Chris Leak is Doug Flutie minus the talent
Aaron (Chapel Hill, NC)
Hey Buzz, you gotta wake up an hour earlier to do the morning chat? I bet that sucks.
Buzzmaster (4:00 PM)
You would win that bet.
JKlipp (Milwaukee, WI)
I'm not fast, not 6 feet, and do not have an NFL arm... Maybe I can get a gig as the QB at Florida?
Jim (Chicago ILL)
Why did the Cowboys hire an offensive coordinator before a head coach? What happens if the head coach they hire wants to bring in his own coordinator?
Buzzmaster (4:02 PM)
That's a question Jerry Jones will be asked about a million times this week.
Chris (Boston)
Jerry does what Jerry wants.
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Jerry Jones is turning into the new millinuem Al Davis
Raymond ( Baltimore)
I was thinking the same thing.. doesn't that hint that whomever the coach is is only keeping the seat warm for a season or two...
Ben (Denver)
Jason Garrett has the good on JJ, why else would he have kept him around as a backup qb for all those years.
Josh (Philly)
Garrett got hired as the OC so they wouldn't lose him back to the Dolphins while JJ decides whether or not just to make him head coach or hire a "caretaker" guy to be HC while Garrett gets groomed to take over the position - which begs the question, if you're not sure he's ready to be a head coach, why would you consider hiring him to be the head coach in the first place?
Aaron (Chapel Hill, NC)
Jerry Jones thinks he can defy all convention because he's Jerry. You see that 1 billion dollar stadium? Insane.
Eddie (Boston)
I am pretty certain Norv Turner or Wade Phillips will be the guy. Both will defer to JJ and won't grouse about Garrett as OC prior to their arrival.
Biscuit (NYC)
It's so nice of Jerry Jones to tell his future head coach that he can't pick his own Offensive Coordinator...plus the OC was someone who was considered for HC job...yeah, that's gonna work out sooo well
Jay (NJ)
Who cares about the Dallas Coaching Staff??? T.O. is gonna completely screw up whoever it is anyway.
Mike (Cinci)
As long as T.O. is in Dallas he will be a coach killer. Just like Vick. Whoever comes in next is destined for failure. Congrats to Garrett for only being the coordinator. Now he gets to get yelled at during every practice and game by a primadonna of a WR.
Ted (Boston,MA)
I didn't know whether to post this in here Buzz but figured since it concerned Bush's days at USC, it fits here. If there are tapes with proof and Bush is found guilty, chances are his Heisman will be taken away and USC will lose that title they won. Ouch, although in my mind theyd still be champs and Bush would still be the Heisman winner but officially he wouldnt be.
Biscuit (NYC)
Do people really think Reggie Bush is the first Heisman Trophy winner to take benefits? If so, I wanna sell you some real estate.
Michigan Basketball (Fab 5 land)
Funny how teams that win championships seem to have some shady stuff going on in the backround 9 times out of 10.
Matt (Ann Arbor)
Did I mention that the Fab Five never won a Championship? Big Ten or NCAA... but they changed basketball forever, you can't change that.
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Reggie Bush made that money doing work study. What are you talking about?
Ben (Tallahassee)
Hey Buzz, you still in here or are you trying to get some more players?
Buzzmaster (4:20 PM)
Yeah, we're going to be here for about another hour and we'll try to get a couple more guys on ..
Maurice Clarett (Ohio Prison)
Championship teams do get some benefits
Buzzmaster (4:22 PM)
OK, the players are starting to get of their meeting ... may have someone here shortly .. they are all stocking up on Under Armour gear at the moment.
Brandon ( Not very warm USA)
Under Armour is doing a nice job promoting their products.
Buzzmaster (4:25 PM)
Yes they are.
Alex (Seattle)
So are the players getting pumped up for the game?
Buzzmaster (4:29 PM)
Yeah, after a week of practices, they are ready to get out there and show what they can do in game action.
Buzzmaster (4:30 PM)
Prescott Burgess is here!
Jake Prescott
Do you pay attention to what Mel Kiper and the other talking heads are saying?
Prescott Burgess (4:30 PM)
I don't pay attention to nobody. They don't determine what team picks me. That is just their thoughts.
Russ (Dyersville)
Are you pumped?
Prescott Burgess (4:31 PM)
I'm ready. I'm just ready. I'm not out here for any old reason. I want to put on a show on Saturday. You better be watchin'.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
Prescott, what are you most looking forward to about the NFL lifestyle?
Prescott Burgess (4:31 PM)
I'm looking forward to just playing on the next level and enjoying playing with all the great players in the NFL.
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Going to miss Ann Arbor?
Prescott Burgess (4:32 PM)
Of course. I spent four years there. Everytime you move somewhere new it's hard to get settled again. I will truly miss Ann Arbor. But I'll be back.
Russ (Dyersville)
Which defense is better, UM's or the Senior Bowl's?
Prescott Burgess (4:32 PM)
C'mon now! Michigan! That's my family. Top defense against the run in the nation. And just all the relationships I have with those guys. We're all brothers.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
Prescott, what's more exciting: playing against Ohio State with a National Championship berth on the line or trying out for NFL scouts?
Prescott Burgess (4:33 PM)
Hmm.. that's tough. I don't know. Right now it's pretty exciting working out for the NFL. I'm done with Ohio State. I'll have those guys on my team in the NFL.
CJ (Orlando, FL)
Who hits harder - you or Woodley?
Prescott Burgess (4:34 PM)
I don't know. Ask the guy carrying the ball!
Alex (Seattle)
which big-time NFL defensive playmaker are you like?
Prescott Burgess (4:34 PM)
Julius Peppers! Shawn Merriman!
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
Did you play any other positions in high school that you would've liked to have tried in college?
Prescott Burgess (4:34 PM)
Safety!
Brandon ( Not very warm USA)
I will be there on Saturday. Are you going to stick around after the game and chill out with some of us fans or are you taking off? I sure would like to meet you.
Prescott Burgess (4:35 PM)
I'm sticking around for a bit. I leave Sunday though.
Steve (M-Town)
Prescott, who gets more girls; you, Leon Hall, or Big A. Branch?
Prescott Burgess (4:35 PM)
Who do you think? Me.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Chicago or Indy?
Prescott Burgess (4:35 PM)
Indianapolis. I have lots of friends on that team.
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
jessica alba or beyonce?
Prescott Burgess (4:36 PM)
Jessica.
Blake (Charlotte)
Who are the some the guys you've met this week and become friends with?
Prescott Burgess (4:36 PM)
All the guys. Every guy on the North team we sit down and mingle and get to know each other.
Alex (Seattle)
Which NFL QB are you looking forward to sacking?
Prescott Burgess (4:36 PM)
All of them!
Kellan (DC)
Who was your favorite NFL team growing up?
Prescott Burgess (4:37 PM)
Browns.
Matt (Birmingham)
Would ya'll have given Florida a better game than Ohio State?
Prescott Burgess (4:37 PM)
I wish it was us playing Ohio State. I don't know though.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
Which is more fun: sacks or interceptions?
Prescott Burgess (4:38 PM)
Interception! Always. You can score off an interception. Nothing better than scoring as a defensive player.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
What number do you want in the NFL?
Prescott Burgess (4:38 PM)
I'd go with 52.
Alex (Seattle)
What's the weirdest question that you've ben asked this week?
Prescott Burgess (4:39 PM)
Why did I go to Michigan?
Russ (Dyersville)
What's your favorite food?
Prescott Burgess (4:39 PM)
Lots of 'em! I like to eat everything.
Buzzmaster (4:39 PM)
Had any Krispy Kreme's?
Prescott Burgess (4:40 PM)
I can't eat donuts. That's against my diet.
Kellan (DC)
Are you intimidated by Jon Gruden?
Prescott Burgess (4:40 PM)
I'm not intimidated by anybody! To tell you the truth, he's really funny. He's not as serious as he appears on TV.
Brad (Philly)
Thanks for 4 great years at Michigan! So I gotta ask you..favorite sandwich at Jimmy John's in AA?
Prescott Burgess (4:40 PM)
Italian Club.
Russ (Dyersville)
How high are you gonna be rated on Madden 08?
Prescott Burgess (4:41 PM)
I don't know. Good question.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
Who has been your biggest influence in football?
Prescott Burgess (4:41 PM)
My family.
Mike (AR)
Favorite college moment?
Prescott Burgess (4:41 PM)
Notre Dame!
Russ (Dyersville)
Who are you gonna watch the Draft with?
Prescott Burgess (4:42 PM)
I won't be watching it. I'll be at my girlfriends graduation.
Byron (Detroit)
Jimmy Johns? What about Pizza Bob's? It is still there?
Prescott Burgess (4:42 PM)
Yes, it's still there.
Russ (Dyersville)
Is it fun playing with Woodley one last time at the Senior Bowl?
Prescott Burgess (4:42 PM)
Oh yes. It's fun playing with all my teammates here. There are four of us on defense so it will be a great thing on Saturday.
Jim (Albany, NY)
Who did you want to beat the most at all costs: OSU, MSU or ND?
Prescott Burgess (4:43 PM)
Ohio State. That's our top rivalry.
Kellan (DC)
How many sacks will you have in your rookie season?
Prescott Burgess (4:43 PM)
I'm aiming for 5.
Karl (Tulsa Oklahoma)
Did you ever meet Bo Schembechler? Did he ever give you advice?
Prescott Burgess (4:44 PM)
Yes. Plenty of times. He still had an office in our building. He was at our practices all the time. He knew me, knew my name. We talked all the time.
Anthony (Cleveland )
If you could talk to one player in the NFL past or present...who would it be?????
Prescott Burgess (4:44 PM)
Brian Urlacher. He played safety and now he is an LB and that is what I did. He is one of the best LBs in the game right now.
Mike (East Lansing, MI)
Best player you played against in your 4 years?
Prescott Burgess (4:45 PM)
Troy Smith. He is just a great player. He's one heck of a QB. It's hard to gameplan against him. He just makes things happen.
Will (NJ)
Who's gonna step up and lead the Michigan D now that so many of their best playmakers have left?
Prescott Burgess (4:46 PM)
All of them. They will come together. No one person will stand out, they will just all be on task and play as one.
The Burger King (BK Lounge)
How do you think you'd do trying to cover me? Do you have the quickness to keep up?
Prescott Burgess (4:46 PM)
I would knock that crown off your head!
Matt (Ann Arbor)
What inspired the mohawk??
Prescott Burgess (4:46 PM)
I don't know. Everbody seemed to like it though so I kept it.
Anthony (Cleveland )
Have you gotten any advice from any former wolverines about the pros...if so who???
Prescott Burgess (4:47 PM)
I ain't there yet! But when I get there, I'm sure there will be plenty of folks giving me advice.
Russ (Dyersville)
What's your biggest fear of the the NFL?
Prescott Burgess (4:47 PM)
I don't have any fears. I've been through too much to have fear. If I go in there with a straight mind, everything will take care of itself.
The Burger King (BK Lounge)
I don't know, Prescott, I'm pretty fast, I'm not so sure you could keep up with me. Have you seen my new commercial?
Prescott Burgess (4:48 PM)
I've seen it alright. On one of those commercials you need to get it so you don't look better than everybody else! Thanks for the questions! I appreciate you all chatting with me.
Buzzmaster (4:49 PM)
Thanks, Prescott. That's one stylin' mohawk.
Matt (Ann Arbor)
Buzz.. you've got to meet Alan, Leon, and Prescott... how cool are the Michigan Men, seriously?
Buzzmaster (4:52 PM)
All super cool dudes.
Buzzmaster (4:57 PM)
I have Eric Weddle in sight .. we'll get him on shortly ..
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
Buzz, how late does practice run?
Buzzmaster (4:58 PM)
The South squad is just now coming in from the afternoon practice
Matt
Buzz, favorite interview?
Buzzmaster (5:00 PM)
David Irons. Cockiness is a good thing when it comes to chat.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
How has Eric Weddle been playing this week, Buzz? Just so we don't say something dumb!
Buzzmaster (5:01 PM)
He's been tearing it up. He's a guy to keep an eye on for someone who might really jump up the charts as we progress through the workouts, combine, etc.
Russ (Dyersville)
Buzz, what's on the menu for tonight?
Buzzmaster (5:03 PM)
Return trip to Dreamland.
Buzzmaster (5:09 PM)
Weddle Watch is still on .. hang tight ..
Buzzmaster (5:10 PM)
Eric is here!
Eric Weddle (5:10 PM)
Hello!
David (Salt Lake)
How are they treating you down in Mobile?
Eric Weddle (5:10 PM)
Great. I'm working my butt off showing what I've got as a player and a person. The week has gone really great so far.
mark
do you feel like you are under a lot of pressure right now with the draft and all?
Eric Weddle (5:11 PM)
No pressure. I'm having fun out here. Some guys have pressure but this is just another game. It's a job interview and I know I will bring value to whatever team drafts me.
Mike (AR)
Eric, could you have pictured a more perfect ending to your college career than the way you played in the Armed Foreces Bowl?
Eric Weddle (5:12 PM)
No. It was an unbelivable experience to continue our bowl streak. I accomplished something great and left the program going in a right direction.
Russ (Dyersville)
Jessica Alba or Jessica Simpson?
Eric Weddle (5:12 PM)
Neither. Chanel Weddel! My wife!
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Do you still talk to Urban Meyer?
Eric Weddle (5:13 PM)
I talked to him last year but not much lately. He's pretty busy winning championsihps.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
Eric, what's more exciting: breaking up a play with a huge hit or making an interception?
Eric Weddle (5:13 PM)
Making an interception. Turnovers are one of the main reasons you win games. Turnover margin is huge. It can be the determining factor in a win or loss.
Russ (Dyersville)
Are you on facebook?
Eric Weddle (5:14 PM)
No. My wife is on MySpace.
Troy (SLC)
Any chance we will get to see you on offense Saturday?
Eric Weddle (5:14 PM)
No. I don't want to take any time away from the guys who earned the right to be here.
Willie (Portland, OR)
So how would you rate your performance this week 1 - 10 (10 best).
Eric Weddle (5:15 PM)
Probably an 8 or 9. I've done well and shown I can compete with the best. My four years at Utah in the Mountain West hasn't hindered me from playing against the best here. But I still have areas I need to improve.
Ben (tuscaloosa)
Eric, who is the best WR you have had to guard since you have been there?
Eric Weddle (5:16 PM)
McKnight, Paul Williams .. they are all really good. Allison is good. They are all here for a reason.
Edward (CA)
How did you shut down Calvin Johnson last year?
Eric Weddle (5:16 PM)
Film study and preparation. I pressed him the whole game. I just played a great game and my d-line played great.
Dustin (Williamsburg, VA)
Where do you think you'd like to play in the NFL? Free Safety? Corner?
Eric Weddle (5:17 PM)
Doesn't matter to me. I feel comfortable I can do both.
SacTownUte
Utefans everywhere wish you the best and can't wait to watch you show America what we know as fact. Which is you are one of the best players in the nation. Thanks for the memories.
Eric Weddle (5:17 PM)
Thank you for the support. I hope to make you very proud and continue to play good football.
Alex (Seattle)
have you made a few friends who you'll keep in contact with through the draft?
Eric Weddle (5:18 PM)
Yes. Marcus McCauley. Tanard Jackson. Gaddis. All the DBs have become really close.
RA Gotto (D-town-ville)
Eric, what was the most memorable experience of your college career?
Eric Weddle (5:19 PM)
I would say in '05 and '06 we had losing streaks (3 in '05 and 2 in '06) and it was at the point of the season where if we didn't come out of that we wouldn't go to a bowl but we came together and won 4 of our last 5 in both years and won both our bowl games.
Jack (Tallahassee)
Were you pumped to see Urban win the title this year?
Eric Weddle (5:20 PM)
Yes. I was very excited for him. I knew it wouldn't be long before he won a championship there. He's a great coach. I wish him all the best.
Mike (AR)
Does it bother you that if Urban Meyer would have stayed at Utah, you guys might have been playing in the championship this year?
Eric Weddle (5:21 PM)
No. Coach Whittingham is a great coach and I have the utomost respect for him. He is guiding us in the right direction. The experience level of the juniors and seniors will win a lot of games next year
R Anthony G (The LC)
What's you favorite TV show?
Eric Weddle (5:21 PM)
Right now it is Heroes and Smallville and American Idol.
Mike (East Lansing, MI)
What will you miss most about the college football experience?
Eric Weddle (5:22 PM)
The relationships and all the stuff you go through as a team. We have to fight through a lot of things normal people don't go through. I'll miss that.
Mike (AR)
Is it neat thinking that you might get to pick off Alex Smith sometime in the future?
Eric Weddle (5:23 PM)
Yeah, that wil remind me of the times I picked him off in practice. He is doing great up there. We're always cheering for him. He's a great leader. Everyone should look up to him.
John, Palo Alto
What was your greatest play? I nominate the interception against TCU when you hit the offensive player, stripped the ball and came down with the interception.
Eric Weddle (5:23 PM)
Yeah, I don't know how I ever did that. I can guarantee I'll never make a play like that again. It was a freakish play and just good timing.
Mike (East Lansing, MI)
How difficult was it to manage classes, coursework, practices and games all at once?
Eric Weddle (5:24 PM)
In the beginning it was tough but as you get older you get in the swing of things and develop a routine. School comes first and you have to get good grades and pass your classes. If you don't, you don't play.
Howard (Eureka, CA)
Eric, how are you adjusting to the speed here at the senior bowl?
Eric Weddle (5:24 PM)
I'm doing fine.
Mike (AR)
Best defensive back in the NFL right now?
Eric Weddle (5:25 PM)
Probably Ed Reed. There are too many to choose from.
Alex (Seattle)
are there any fun pranks happening between players?
Eric Weddle (5:25 PM)
No pranks. You would think there would be but there hasn't.
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Smallville's Lois Lane or Lana Lang?
Eric Weddle (5:26 PM)
Lois for sure. I hate Lana. Lana is a traitor and a loser and I hope she falls with Lex in the end.
Drew (Gainesville, FL)
Is there anything you can't do on a football field? Kick maybe?
Eric Weddle (5:26 PM)
I can punt. I can't FG kick though. You wouldn't want me kicking for your team.
fred
will you continue to talk a lot of smack once you are in the nfl?
Eric Weddle (5:27 PM)
I'm not a smack talker. Unless they talk crap to me then I'll get into it. But I respect my opponent. That's how I was brought up.
Alx (Seattle)
what's the weirdest question you've been asked this week?
Eric Weddle (5:27 PM)
Not too may weird questions. I've been asked 1,000 times whether i would rather play safety or corner. I just say either.
Mike (AR)
Draft day party?
Eric Weddle (5:28 PM)
Yes. Just my close friends and family. We'll just have dinner and hope for the best.
Gussell (DBQ)
Have Simon, Paula, and Randy been too harsh in your opinion thus far on AI?
Eric Weddle (5:29 PM)
They need to be harsh. People nowadays think they can sing when they can't. It's a good reality check for them. Thanks for the questions and all the support. I'll continue to work my butt off and represent my university and the people who have taught me the right way to do things.
Buzzmaster (5:30 PM)
Thanks, Eric!
Mike (East Lansing, MI)
Buzz...better quality in a player: cocky or modest?
Buzzmaster (5:32 PM)
I like cocky. You have to be confident and usually the cocky guys are the ones having the most fun and you have to have fun out there.
Ben (Denver)
I like Eric Weddle. I wonder if he's prettier then David Irons.
Brian (LA)
I prefer guys like LT, Barry Sanders or Emmitt. They know they are good but do not have to tell ervybody about it.
James (Milwaukee)
Buzz, who picks the questions the player answers, Them or you?
Buzzmaster (5:35 PM)
Little bit of both.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
What does being pretty have to do with playing football? Wow, Ben from Denver, you're a disgrace to the name "Ben".
Buzzmaster (5:35 PM)
Some of you are obviously joining late and weren't here for David Irons.
Brian (Portland, OR)
Buzz - Kiper coming in soon?
Buzzmaster (5:37 PM)
Tomorrow at 1 ET.
B. Michael (The LC)
Buzz, how late are you working tonight?! It's almost 6:00!
Buzzmaster (5:39 PM)
We'll be here until around 6:30 ET.
Mike (Cinci)
Are the Krispy Kreme's gonna last until 6:30?
Buzzmaster (5:41 PM)
I think so. There are about 5 boxes left.
Buzzmaster (5:46 PM)
We're still hoping to get another player or two on .. but it's pretty quiet at the moment .. the guys might be in another meeting .. I'm on the case.
James (Milwaukee)
Dont lie buzz, the only thing your on is your 23rd krispy kreme
Buzzmaster (5:50 PM)
Nooo.. at least not today .. have to prepare for Dreamland BBQ tonight.
Stevie Ballgame (WI)
Buzz is there any way I can read or look at the chats from this past week?
Buzzmaster (5:51 PM)
Heck yeah .. go the SportsNation front page and look under Draft Season Begins!
Buzzmaster (5:55 PM)
Sorry for the down time .. the players are MIA at the moment .. but we've got another 30 minutes or so to stay on the lookout ..
Robert (Huntsville, Al)
Just think, somewhere right at this moment, some Bears fan is complaining that they aren't getting enough respect... Which leads to the question, if a Bears fan complains about respect and no one is around to hear it, does it really happen?
Buzzmaster (6:01 PM)
Brandon Meriweather is here!
Brandon Meriweather (6:01 PM)
Hello!
Jonny (Dallas,TX)
Superbowl picks?
Brandon Meriweather (6:02 PM)
Chicago by 7! I think defense wins Super Bowl and offense brings people into the crowd.
Mike (East Lansing, MI)
Who is the best WR you have been matched up with in practice?
Brandon Meriweather (6:02 PM)
Dwayne Bowe.
Steve (Akron)
How was it training in the offseason with all of the U alumni? Did Kellen Winslow ever come down?
Brandon Meriweather (6:03 PM)
Over the summer I trained with some of those guys but not recently.
7th Grader(Seattle)
what's the biggest hit you dished in your career?
Brandon Meriweather (6:04 PM)
Louisville .. it was a jawbreaking highlight of the year hit.
Michael (Austin, TEXAS BABY!!!)
Who else have you been impressed by on the defense?
Brandon Meriweather (6:05 PM)
The Texas dudes. Michael Griffin and Aaron Ross.
Brandon Meriweather (6:05 PM)
David Irons and Jonathan Wade also.
Mike (East Lansing, MI)
Which causes a bigger adrenaline rush: leveling a WR over the middle, gettin a sack or INT?
Brandon Meriweather (6:05 PM)
Levering a WR over the middle!
Paul (NY)
What team's defense do you see your a good fit for?
Brandon Meriweather (6:06 PM)
All of them!
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Who came up with the name "The Hit Stick"?
Brandon Meriweather (6:06 PM)
Willie Cooper.
Billy (Baton Rouge)
I see you as one of the top safties in the nation......but a lot of people have questions about your character. What are your thoughts on that?
Brandon Meriweather (6:07 PM)
I would say not to listen to those folks and come meet me for yourself.
Mike (East Lansing, MI)
Best offensive player on the North?
Brandon Meriweather (6:07 PM)
I'm on the South roster. They are all great. Everybody here is really good.
Mike (Chicago, IL)
Brandon, what's your favorite food?
Brandon Meriweather (6:07 PM)
Chicken.
James (Milwaukee)
If you got to choose, where would you play?
Brandon Meriweather (6:08 PM)
I would go anywhere!
7th Grader(Seattle)
have you gotten any big hits on Lorenzo Booker?
Brandon Meriweather (6:09 PM)
Nah. We can't hit in practice.
Billy (Baton Rouge)
Whos the one person you want to hit? Personally I want you to knock the hell out of T.O.
Brandon Meriweather (6:09 PM)
Troy Smith!
James (Michigan)
Sean Taylor or Ed Reed? Whos better?
Buzzmaster (6:12 PM)
Sorry .. Troy Smith is talking to Brandon about how DBs and QBs interact .. some great stuff .. Troy says DBs are puppets!
James (Michigan)
Did Brandon want to knock Troy Smith our 30 seconds ago?
Brandon Meriweather (6:14 PM)
Nah. Troy is my dawg.
Steve (Akron)
They should listen to Troy, he is a smart man.
Ryan (CIncinnati)
Brandon, your a great player, but Troy would make you look silly.
Troy Smith (6:15 PM)
You don't need to be like that across the net! I appreciate the respect, but this is an all-star you are talking to!
Buzzmaster (6:15 PM)
Oh! Troy got you!
Buzzmaster (6:16 PM)
Those guys had to run to dinner .. they said to say goodbye .. that was on hilarous conversation .. Brandon was trying to tell Troy how he can read him and Troy wasn't having any of it.
Joe (Miami, FL)
Hey Buzz, who's taller, Troy or Brandon?
Buzzmaster (6:19 PM)
Looks like Troy by a hair.
Buzzmaster (6:20 PM)
Amobi Okoye is in the area .. we might be able to grab him .. but time is running down .. I'll try to make a last-minute score ..
Ben (Denver)
isn't troy's head shaved?
Buzzmaster (6:20 PM)
No, should it be?
Buzzmaster (6:27 PM)
Doh.. Amobi had to get to a press conference .. we might be nearing the end of the line folks ..
Buzzmaster (6:29 PM)
Actually, hold on .. I see Chris Leak off in the distance .. gonna work on that.
Buzzmaster (6:30 PM)
Get your questions in for Chris ..
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Buzz is he coming?
Buzzmaster (6:36 PM)
Cross your fingers ..
Chris Leak (6:37 PM)
Hello everyone!
Sam Heckman (earth)
how did it feel beating the living crap out of the buckeyes?
Chris Leak (6:38 PM)
Sam, I have a lot of respect for Ohio State and their program. That makes the victory that much better to come out with a win like that.
Dante (Charlotte)
If you had to grade your Senior Bowl week performance on a scale from 1-10 what would you give yourself?
Chris Leak (6:38 PM)
I'll be able to give you that grade after the game on Saturday. Right now I"m just trying to keep improving and trying to develop to be successful at the next level.
Sam ((Salem, OR)
Hey Chris - how is it to throw to a 6'7" TE in Joe Newton
Chris Leak (6:39 PM)
It's a huge advantage on offense, esp. on third downs and in red zone situations. It's just a great tool to have. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense.
Kyle (Maryland)
Chris who was your idol growing up?
Chris Leak (6:40 PM)
My all-time favorite player in the NFL was Warren Moon. And also Donovan McNabb. Those guys have really opened up the doors for guys like myself. I just love watching them play. They are also first class individuals. I hope I can be as successful as they have been.
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Have the coaches told you to change anything in your throwing motion?
Chris Leak (6:40 PM)
They haven't tried to change much. The main thing I have focused on with them is the mental part and how you read defenses in order to be a successful NFL QB.
Matt (Kent, WA)
Chris - now that it's all said and done - who was really the best team you played this season - LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, or Ohio State?
Chris Leak (6:41 PM)
LSU was the most talented team that we played this year. You can put a lot of teams on that list such as Auburn and Tennessee. There are so many great teams in the SEC. You really can't just settle on one team.
AD (San Diego)
Chris-Have you gotten a chance to talk to Troy Smith about NC game, the NFL, what kind of ride you want?
Chris Leak (6:42 PM)
We've talked a lot here in Mobile. He's great to be around guys like him who are such high class individuals. It's been a treat to be around all these great athletes. As for the ride, my favorite car is a Lamborghini Gallardo.
Russ (Dyersville)
Bears or Colts, Chris?
Chris Leak (6:43 PM)
I guess I have to go with the Bears because of so many Gators on that team. I'm behind those guys all the way.
Russ (Dyersville)
What receiver have you most enjoyed throwing the ball to this week?
Chris Leak (6:44 PM)
Dallas Baker, Dwyane Bowe and Courtney Taylor have been great all week. We have some familiarity with all of them so it's great to have SEC guys down here.
Ben (Dyersville, IA)
Chris, what is the hardest part of the week this week?
Chris Leak (6:44 PM)
Just managing your time. Making sure you stay focused on the playbook and learning as much as you can. But you also have to stay first class and give your best effort to show NFL teams who you are.
Darren Gastonia NC
HAS HEIGHT BEEN AS BIG OF A ISSUE AS THE MEDIA IS TRYING TO MAKE IT?I KNOW YOU CAN PLAY ON THE NEXT LEVEL.
Chris Leak (6:45 PM)
It's not a big issue at all. Guys like Drew Brees have really proven that theory wrong. Just from their performance and leadership and ability to make plays it has shown that height isn't a big issue.
Scott (San Antonio)
Chris, does anyone in the NCAA or the NFL throw a spiral as tight as yours?
Chris Leak (6:46 PM)
I'm not sure. But throwing a tight spiral is something I have prided myself on. It is important because it makes the ball easier to catch. I want to make those guys job as easy as possible.
Russ (Dyersville)
Have you been approaching this week with a "just to have fun" attitude, or have you been all business?
Chris Leak (6:46 PM)
I've been having fun. Being around these coaches has been fun. Great athletes here also so that makes it fun.
Chris Leak (6:47 PM)
The bus is here so I have to run... thanks for all the great questions and the support.
Buzzmaster (6:48 PM)
Thanks, Chris!
Buzzmaster (6:52 PM)
Whew! Long day! All the guys are heading to a press conference so we have to wrap things up here. Thanks to Jonathan Wade, David Irons, Quentin Moses, LaRon McClain, Ken Darby, Prescott Burgess, Eric Weddle, Brandon Meriweather, Chris Leak and Scouts Inc's Todd McShay for stopping by!
Buzzmaster (6:55 PM)
We'll be back tomorrow with Mel Kiper and Todd McShay breaking down the winners and losers from the week. Thanks for sticking it out today! Final tally .. 5 Krispy Kreme boxes remaining! And sorry we couldn't track down Kenny Irons to get an official response to his brother's claim that if the draft were done by looks, Kenny would be a low pick. Talk to you guys tomorrow!
