Chat with DeAndre Jackson

ESPN.com's Scouts Inc. has evaluated every player in the draft and this is what they say about Jackson: ''Jackson doesn't possess the speed to consistently hold up on an island and his knee injury is reason for concern. However, he has the size, instincts and playmaking ability to develop into an excellent starter in a cover-2 scheme. He also projects as a solid contributor on special teams in the NFL. Jackson projects as a second-day pick and he could be a great value if he returns to form physically.''

DeAndre's here now!
Bill (Boston)
Hey DeAndre -- have any teams shown a particular interest in you so far?
DeAndre Jackson (12:57 PM)
Not really. Not so much that I can distinguish them apart, no.
Larry
What are you going to miss the most about college?
DeAndre Jackson (12:58 PM)
I would say I will probably miss the guys on the team. The closeknit family of the guys on the team.
Mark H. (Bowling Green, OH)
What NFL WR do you most look forward to competing against?
DeAndre Jackson (12:58 PM)
I look forward to competing against any receiver. I don't really have one that I want to go against more than any other.
Mike (az)
Deandre, do you consider yourself more of a zone cover 2 type guy or a man to man coverage corner?
DeAndre Jackson (12:59 PM)
I would say both.
Patrick (WI)
Hey Mr. Jackson, what would you say is that hardest part of the upcoming NFL Draft?
DeAndre Jackson (12:59 PM)
The hardest part is not knowing what to expect.
Mike
What do you think your greatest strength is and your greatest weakness as a CB? Also, how do you feel your tackling ability is?
DeAndre Jackson (1:00 PM)
I would say my greatest strength is being able to play the ball - being a ballhawk. My weakness is wrapping up on tackles.
Brian (No, LA
DeAndre, can you talk a little bit about your experience as a Cyclone and how that helped you prepare for the combine?
DeAndre Jackson (1:01 PM)
I think playing at Iowa State was a blessing. I really enjoyed all four years of it. I would say that it brought many, many different challenges and helped me to become a big student of the game. It helped me out a lot.
Naylor Frisco,Texas
Hey!Dre What percent will your knee be on pro day?
DeAndre Jackson (1:02 PM)
I think it should be close to full strength.
Luke (Buffalo)
DeAndre...how would you feel about playing for the Buffalo Bills?
DeAndre Jackson (1:02 PM)
I would love to play for the Buffalo Bills.
Josh (Sheboygan, WI)
Whats the first thing you're going to buy with that first big NFL check?
DeAndre Jackson (1:03 PM)
The first thing I'll probably buy is a new car. I need a new car. My car is breaking down.
Neil Des Moines, IA
DeAndre- Sorry to see you injury last season, you are a great Cyclone. Are there any teams you hope draft you? Or any team you feel you could contribute to more than any other in the league?
DeAndre Jackson (1:04 PM)
I'm really looking forward to going to anyone, whoever wants to take me. I would be more than happy to be on that team. I think I can contribute to a lot of teams, through hard work and dedication.
Jon (Iowa City)
How has your rehab gone? Are you close to full speed again?
DeAndre Jackson (1:05 PM)
Rehab has been going very very good. I've been sprinting, cutting and preparing myself for pro day. I'm ahead of schedule with everything - it's all coming together good.
Mike (az)
Deandre, i must admit im not familiar with you as a player but i do know my favorite team teh arizona cardinals is in desperate need of some cb help. What are you hoping to run in the 40 at your pro-day?, we need a cb with some speed!
DeAndre Jackson (1:06 PM)
Pro day, it would be a close call, but if I'm ready to go, I'm looking to run around a 4.4.
Johnny (Massillon, OH)
What was your favorite team growing up? And which other sports do you have a passion for?
DeAndre Jackson (1:06 PM)
My favorite team growing up was the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. I like to play basketball.
DD (Minn)
When you make your first interception for a score - what do you think you'll do in the endzone?
DeAndre Jackson (1:07 PM)
I'll probably dance a little bit and celebrate with my teammates.
Ken S. (Cincinnati)
Who would you compare yourself to?
DeAndre Jackson (1:08 PM)
I like Champ Bailey and I watch a lot of film on him and try to model myself with a little bit of him and my own style.
Ken S. (Cincinnati)
Can you picture playing for the defensive guru Marvin Lewis?
DeAndre Jackson (1:08 PM)
Yes.
Rodney (Ames, IA)
DeAndre - We're going to miss you in Ames! What do you and your brother think of Gene Chizik?
DeAndre Jackson (1:09 PM)
I think Coach Chizik is a very great man. He's a good aggressive coach and that's what the guys will need. I think they'll win a lot of games next year.
Nick
DeAndre - Do you feel that you are a high character individual?
DeAndre Jackson (1:09 PM)
Yes I do.
DD (Minn)
Is it your responsibility to be a good role model for the young kids who willl be watching you?
DeAndre Jackson (1:10 PM)
I think that's a big responsibility, because kids try to model themselves from the guys on TV. If you want to be a positive role model in this world, you have to be of great character on and off the field.
Naylor Frisco,Texas
remeber you are a first round pick who got injured...keep your confidence on a high level...tell your dad I said hello
DD (Minn)
Deandre, since the Bears was one of your favorite teams growing up - how would you be - playing for the Vikings?
DeAndre Jackson (1:11 PM)
I would love to play whoever wants to pick me up.
Kellan (DC)
DeAndre, is it tough having all these scouts and media nitpicking every part of your game, or do you look at it as constructive criticism?
DeAndre Jackson (1:12 PM)
You've got to look at it as constructive criticism. If you get too wound up about it you worry about it too much. You just have to take it.
Nick (IOwa City)
Did you have to take the Wonderlic test? if soo what was it like?
DeAndre Jackson (1:12 PM)
It's not as crazy as everyone makes it seem. It's just a test that makes you think fast and how well you can respond under pressure. But it's not that bad.
Jim (Indiana)
What CB in the NFL do you think is the best?
DeAndre Jackson (1:13 PM)
Champ Bailey is the best.
Jim (Mass)
What's your favorite defensive scheme to play?
DeAndre Jackson (1:14 PM)
I would say the 4-3.
Brian (Ames, IA)
Dre, have you been able to talk to ellis hobbs about life in the NFL?
DeAndre Jackson (1:14 PM)
I talk to him quite a bit. We always just talk about life and how things are going. Things to do and what not to do. We talk every once in a while and see what's going on.
DeAndre Jackson (1:15 PM)
I appreciate it. Thanks for chatting!
