Chat with Anthony Gonzalez

ESPN.com's Scouts Inc. has evaluated every player in the draft and this is what they say about Gonzalez: ''Gonzalez doesn't make enough big plays for a prospect with his kind of speed, but he has the makings of an excellent possession receiver in the NFL. He runs great routes, fights for the ball while it's in the air and has excellent hands. Gonzalez could come off the board as early as the second round.''

Anthony's here!
Julie (Denver)
Have you patterend your game off anyone in particular?
Anthony Gonzalez (3:55 PM)
The way that I've always approached comparisons is that I feel it limits your potential. So I try to take little bits and pieces of peoples' games that I appreciate. It could be anyone - a guy in college that I like or a guy in the NFL that I like.
Jeremy (Honolulu, HI)
Hey Anthony, In the perfect situation what NFL team would you like to get drafted by and why?
Anthony Gonzalez (3:56 PM)
Not necessarily. My take on this whole situation is that I want whatever happens I want to be the perfect situation, but I don't know what that situation is.
Treye (St. Ignatius `99)
Congrats Anthony on all your success. Been following you since h.s. (I graduated with your brother Joe). I just wanted to know what has been the most memorable moment of your Ohio State career?
Anthony Gonzalez (3:57 PM)
It's hard to give one answer. But all of the Michigan victories, all three of them, in particular the last two because they ended in Big Ten championships.
Matt (Ann Arbor)
Anthony.. you're officially out of Ohio State, so you can admit it.. you ran out of bounds and weren't forced out.
Anthony Gonzalez (3:57 PM)
I believe I was forced out and force is dependent upon your definition of forced.
Jason(Pittsburgh,Pa)
Anthony, Many of mock drafts have you going to New England what would think of playing with a player like Tom Brady?
Anthony Gonzalez (3:58 PM)
First of all, to go to an organization like the Patriots would be an honor, because their entire organization seems to do things properly. Then to play and catch passes from a QB like Tom Brady, I would be excited about. That said, though, I don't put a whole lot of stock into those mock drafts.
Julie (Denver)
Troy Smith has gotten a bum rap lately. Do you think he can be an NFL starter?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:00 PM)
Absolutely. Nobody that I've played with is as competitive or wants to win as much as Troy Smith. I believe that no matter what he did, he'll be successful. He's the type of person that will be successful in life.
Brian (LA)
What influenced your decision to come out?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:00 PM)
One thing? No. It's such an important decision that you have to factor in a lot of different things and ultimately make a decision and go with it.
John, Iggy Grad - Chicago
Gonzo - What is the one thing you need to work on to make the transition from a successful college WR to a successful pro WR. Would luv to have you on Brownies.
Anthony Gonzalez (4:01 PM)
I would say the thing that you always hear about receivers is that they always take longer to adapt. I think that has to do with receivers mentally grasp what's going on. My goal is to get the playbook so that I don't have a mental error.
Corey Newman (Centreville, VA)
Anthony, I saw that special about your sleeping chamber on ESPN; how much does one of those things go for? Are you going to continue using it in the pros?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:02 PM)
I definitely plan on continuing to sleeping in the tent. Luckily, the company has said they'll build me a room in whatever city I go for. The tent that I have, I believe, goes for $6,000.
Brian (LA)
Do you believe the Big 10 has problems becuase its players collectively are not as fast as those in the SEC or the Pac-10?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:04 PM)
I don't know that we had problems, we only lost one game. The other thing that I can say is that our times at the combine show that Ohio State in particular doesn't have problems from a speed standpoint.
Travis (Canada)
Anthony, Two part question, what is the biggest adjustment between high school and college, what do you expect it to be in the NFL. What was more fun college recruiting or NFL combine, scouting?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:05 PM)
High school to college, that's easy - the speed that one has to practice at. At high school, you don't have to practice all that fast. From the jump to the NFL, I have a feeling that it will be the collective speeds of the game itself and the mental part of the game.
Anthony Gonzalez (4:05 PM)
NFL combine and scouting. I personally hate being recruited for anything. It makes me uncomfortable for people to constantly tell you how great you are. I like this process better because it's more fact based - how fast did you run, what does your tape look like.
Dan (Cincinnati)
Who is faster on the field in full pads - you or Teddy?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:06 PM)
That's the eternal question. No one knows the answer to it. Not even me. We've never raced.
Brian (Cleveland, OH)
Hey Anthony, what do you think about playing for your home team The Cleveland Browns
Anthony Gonzalez (4:07 PM)
Again, I just want to play for whatever team that's the best situation. If it's Cleveland, than I'm all for it. I do know this, I'd have a lot of ticket requests.
Brett (Iowa)
Is there any one thing that you can put your finger on why tOSU didn't play as well in the title game or was Florida just the better team that day?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:08 PM)
It's hard again to put your finger on one thing. But I personally believe that on every play something went wrong, whether it was a guy not running the right route or not catching the ball or the blocking not holding up, it just seemed that everyone just did not play their best game.
Jordan (Pittsburgh, PA)
Who was the toughest cornerback you faced in college?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:09 PM)
I would say Marlin Jackson, primarily because I was a freshman and he was a two-time All-American and I was just a nobody. It was intimidating and I think that added to why it was so difficult. And honestly, I wasn't a very good player back then.
Doug (Dayton)
Are you planning to run again at OSU's pro day or do you think you have done enough? Your combine was impressive.
Anthony Gonzalez (4:10 PM)
If I run, I think I'll run a 40, but I probably won't. I do plan on doing all the position drills and anything else the scouts ask me to.
Max (Pittsburgh)
Hey Gonzo, why did you choose to go to THE Ohio State University over any other schools that u were offered?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:11 PM)
Well, two reasons, it's where I felt the most comfortable. Coach's values and my values were similar. Another thing was that OSU's goal every year was to win the national championship. The other schools' goals were to win conference championships.
Dan (Cincinnati)
What makes Coach Tressel the best coach in college football? Is there any coach other than him you would have enjoyed playing for?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:12 PM)
That's a question that you get a lot and it's circular logic - everyone asks why is he so great in big games? I say because he's a great football coach. Then they ask why is he a great football coach? I say because he's great in big games. He's really good at developing players.
Albie (Georgia)
Yo Gonzo... whats ur prediction for the NCAA tourney... u think osu will win it all?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:13 PM)
I believe they have the talent. It seems like no matter who we play, they don't get any points inside because of Oden. It will be interesting. I'm really really looking forward to it.
Ben (Boston)
What was your favorite NFL team growing up? Did you play any other sports?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:13 PM)
My NFL team was the Browns and my favorite player growing up was probably Barry Sanders.
Hoffa (Iowa)
What are you going to miss the most about college life?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:14 PM)
That's easy. By far the thing I'll miss the most is the every day give and take with your teammates and the every day relationships you develop.
shan (dallas)
which teams showed the most interst. in you at the combine
Anthony Gonzalez (4:15 PM)
It's hard for me to say. My agent asked me the same question and I couldn't really give him an answer. I met with all 32 teams in a two-day span so they all kind of ran together. There weren't any teams that I had a real bad feeling about. So that's good.
Sonny (Massillon)
You guys turn out pros every year...who's the best player OSU will turn out in NEXT year's draft?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:16 PM)
Hmmmm. It's hard to say. I would say Kirk Barton. Of all the seniors, he's the one that will probably be rated the highest.
The Eck (Bethel Park)
Yoo Dawg, At Ohio State, who was the bigger star, Troy Smith or Greg Oden?
Anthony Gonzalez (4:17 PM)
I could tell an intersting story about that. Troy Smith, because football is king in Ohio. I was walking to class with my hood up and Greg Oden is about 80 feet in front of me and about 100 feet in front of me there was another football player who played a little bit and there were more people talking about him than Greg Oden.
Anthony Gonzalez (4:18 PM)
Thanks for having me. Thanks for all the support. Go Bucks!
