Floyd will be here any minute, so keep the football questions coming!
Joe (Norfolk, VA)
Who do you have winning the NFC East this season? Do you feel the Cowboys have what it takes to go all the way with Wade.
Floyd Reese (12:03 PM)
That's a good question. I would think that the Cowboys would be the favorites with the uncertainty with McNabb in Philly. Romo is going to have to keep it up, I think Wade will be a plus in what they are going to be able to maybe get out of the offense as a whole. And certainly he has proven to be a defensive guru. The only team right now that I can see as a serious contender would be Philly, but only with a fully healthy McNabb.
How far in advance of the draft are each team's draft boards set and in your experience do most teams stick to it or do more teams deviate from it to reach for a need?
Floyd Reese (12:04 PM)
Well draft boards in general are set weeks, and even months in advance. There is constant tweaking of the board right up until draft day. As you get info it may or may not change a status of a player. In general, if teams do a good job of setting the board than they will stick to it. A formula for disaster is to not set the board correctly, or not follow it.
Bryan (Philadelphia, PA)
Floyd, do you think Jevon Kearse can fully recover from his injury? Is he still the type of player you drafted out of college?
Floyd Reese (12:06 PM)
As we all know he is the Freak. He has always lived up to that name. I think even today he can do things that the vast majority of DEs cannot do. I think he is blessed with a special body and I would expect him to completely recover from this and have a bang out season in 2007.
Tony (Rochester, NY)
Hey Floyd, What do you think of JP Losman's progress in Buffalo? Can he be the type of QB to lead Buffalo to the playoffs?
Floyd Reese (12:08 PM)
I think he is coming along well. The QB position is the most analyzed and overcriticized position in maybe all of sports. It is not by accident that the better QBs in the league are 32, 33, 34 years old, because it takes that amount of time to truly learn the position. I think the jury is out as to whether or not he can carry a team to the playoffs, but I would not hesitate to say that if he has help, he can be part of a team that goes to the playoffs.
Petrino's downfield attack seems more suited to Vick's talent. his best year came under Reeve's who employed a similar style. Thoughts?
Floyd Reese (12:10 PM)
Well I think the key thing for Michael is to get comfortable in something that can also be productive for him. I think he feels comfortable running and throwing the ball and looking for Crumpler, but I think for him to achieve all his aspirations, winning a Super Bowl, he really needs to get comfortable in an offense, and if that means going down field so be it. You need to mold an offense around him.
Has any team fallen in Love with Amobi Okoye. After CJ he seems like one of the most promising prospects coming out of this draft given his age, maturity and natural talent?
Floyd Reese (12:13 PM)
I think there are not many teams who have not fallen for him. To have done everything he has done at such a young age is unheard of. It is remarkable how well he has done.
AJ ( LaCrosse, WI)
What are the chances Randy Moss will be a Green Bay Packer this season?
Floyd Reese (12:15 PM)
I think the Randy Moss trade would be very hard to pull off because I am not sure people view Randy in the exact same light as they did four or five years ago. And yet the things that he has done, the production, and the images that people have of the tremendous things that he has done, drives his value up. Green Bay has done a great job drafting in the past years, and I don't see Thompson giving up the picks it would cost to get Randy Moss.
Sam (Houston, Tx):
Floyd, what do you see the Titans doing in the first round? Mel Kiper has them taking a DE if the right one is there.
Floyd Reese (12:16 PM)
I think if you were to talk to the coaches in Tennessee they would be leaning towards a DE or a corner. I think that they will either go ahead and draft a defensive player even though there might be an offensive player there that might be rated higher.
What are the odds! Joe Thomas falls to the cardinals at pick #5. If his not there, who do we take?
Floyd Reese (12:18 PM)
Well I think there is a better than even chance that he might fall there. If the QBs go early than the other names will drop down. But I think that there is a decent chance that he will drop there, and I would have to think that Arizona would be very very interested.
Jamaal (Washington Twp, NJ)
Floyd, my Bengals have had a less-than-spectacular offseason to say the least. Do you still expect them to contend for a division title and playoff berth this season? Thanks.
Floyd Reese (12:20 PM)
I think without a doubt. I think that they have put together a very good team, led by one of the top QBs in the league. They have drafted well, and I expect them to continue that. So I expect them to be playoff contenders and they may even go deep in the playoffs.
Do you think Pete Carroll will coach in the NFL someday?
Floyd Reese (12:22 PM)
I would have to say yes. I think that Pete has done so very well at SC that at a point in time he will look for a new challenge and the ideal job will come along. He has one of the best jobs at any level at USC, but I would be surprised if he does not end up back in the NFL at some time.
Paul (Trenton, NJ)
What rationale could Oakland have for passing on Russell or Quinn for CJ even if they get another unproven guy in Rodgers or McCown?
Floyd Reese (12:25 PM)
CJ is truly a special player. In my career I have been fortunate to draft Eddie George, Kearse, and Vince Young, who are incredible athletes, and Johnson is in that league. So that is why you would take him. But the QB position is the most important position in all of sports, and teams without a good QB would do anything to get their hands on one.
With the possibile rumor of the rams getting Kris Jenkins of the Panthers do you think that they can further develop there offense by picking a player like Ted Ginn JR.
Floyd Reese (12:27 PM)
There is no doubt that those two guys could help any team. It will be interesting to see Ted's workout because he has been limited by the foot injury. I am sure that when he does workout it will get a lot of attention from around the league. Anytime you get to see someone like him run it is always an event.
Brent (Lincoln, NE)
Hey Floyd, loved what you did in Tennessee. Here is a question that no one wants to answer or doesn't have an answer to, one you might have some inside info on. What is happening with Jeff Fisher's contract? I thought it was supposed to get done early this offseason, but haven't heard anything about. Please tell me he isn't going anywhere next year... please.
Floyd Reese (12:29 PM)
As I understand the option has been exercised and he is under contract for that option until the end of 2007. This negotiation will be a very quiet one, and you won't hear anything about it until it is actually done and maybe even not a lot then. I think Mr. Adams wants very badly to keep Jeff, and I think Jeff wants to stay, and I would be very surprised if something does not get done. But there is still a lot of time and a lot of negotiating left on this.
Floyd Reese (12:30 PM)
This was my first real attempt at anything like this. I was very impressed with the quality of questions, and I really enjoyed it. Hope to do it again soon!
