Chat with Jordan Brand All-Americans

Derrick Rose (Chicago, IL/Memphis), Donte Greene (Towson, Maryland/Syracuse), Patrick Patterson (Huntington, WV/Undecided) and Jerryd Bayless (Phoenix, AZ/Arizona) will all stop by Tuesday afternoon to chat about the all-star game and their high school careers.
Rose averaged 25 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists per game as a point guard for Simeon High School. Green has drawn comparisons to Carmelo Anthony as he led Towson Catholic to a 26-4 record and a No. 1 ranking in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Patterson averaged 18 points and 16 rebounds per game alongside O.J. Mayo at Huntington High. Bayless is probably the most polished scorer of the bunch, averaging 37.8 and 33 points in his last two seasons.

Buzzmaster (4:21 PM)
The four all-stars are on their way over to our building on the campus shuttle right now. They should be here in minutes!
Buzzmaster (4:25 PM)
Let's get started! They're here!
Campbell (Clarksdale,Ms)
Derrick, have you try to get Patrick Patterson to commit to Memphis?
Derrick Rose (4:25 PM)
Yeah, I've tried and the fans have tried really hard. They have signs for him. I hope he puts us in his choice.
Lance (Chicago)
Jerryd, what was it about Lute Olson that sold you on Arizona?
Jerryd Bayless (4:26 PM)
Just how many players he's put into the NBA and the number of players he's made into All-Stars.
Brian, LA
Patrick, how much "gentle" pressure are you getting from the Duke guys at the various all star games?
Patrick Patterson (4:27 PM)
Constantly, every game. Walking down the hallways from the guys, trying to say whatever they can to get me to go.
Tom S. (NY, NY)
Donte, what are you going to give us next year at the Cuse? 15 and 8?
Donte Greene (4:27 PM)
15 and 8 sounds good. I'm not going in to guarantee numbers. I'd like to get some Ws.
Chad (Indianapolis)
Jerryd - was it a little frustrating to Arizona underachieve so badly last year? And what do you expect in the upcoming year?
Jerryd Bayless (4:28 PM)
It definitely was frustrating. THey had a down year. I hope to go provide some leadership and toughness next year. That's what they were lacking.
Sam (Boston)
Derrick, Love your game, who what NBA player would you say you are most like?
Derrick Rose (4:29 PM)
I would say I'm a young LeBron James, because people want me to take a lot of shots. But if I'm seeing other people score, I'll get my joy from them scoring.
Matt from NY Jouisey
Hey Patrick, i know you had said you were going to narrow your list to 2 or 3 teams, do you still plan on doing and what is the time frame for your decision making?
Patrick Patterson (4:29 PM)
I'm going to carry it all the way out until May. I'll sign and announce then.
James (Chicago)
Jerryd, how much easier was the decision for you, with Arizona being a high quality team and close to home?
Jerryd Bayless (4:30 PM)
It made it a lot easier. Everyone can see me and be close to me. Having it be close to home makes it 10 times better.
Jerry (Plainfield)
Donte, if you could compare your game to a current player, college or pro, who would it be?
Donte Greene (4:30 PM)
Probably, Rashad Lewis, because I do have a jumpshot. I do have a midrange, but I can take my defender down low.
Phil (LA)
Did any of you guys get recruited by a smaller school? If any did contact you, did you laugh when you got the letter?
Donte Greene (4:31 PM)
I wasn't highly recruited until my sophomore year. I was on my way to a mid-major.
Derrick Rose (4:32 PM)
I didn't get really recruited until my sophomore year too. I didn't go to many AAU tournaments. The farthest place we went was Minnesota. People didn't really know about me.
Dale (Louisville)
Derrick, what was your first impression when you met with coach Calipari? What kind of presence does he have?
Derrick Rose (4:33 PM)
When I first met him, he came on a house visit. He came before my AAU practice. He told me that he only goes for two guards every year. He told me he would put the ball in my hands. He told me that he wanted me to work on my overall game.
Spencer (Scottsdale)
Any of you guys picked your college majors?
Donte Greene (4:33 PM)
Communications.
Derrick Rose (4:33 PM)
Sports management.
Patrick Patterson (4:34 PM)
Computer Engineering.
Michael (KY)
Patrick, How did your meeting with Billy G go last night? I hope you are still considering UK even though Tubby left. GO Cats!
Patrick Patterson (4:34 PM)
Yeah, I'm still considering Kentucky. Billy G tells it how it is. He tells you what he wants. He's a great guy and coach.
Taron(Brooklyn,New York)
Donte do you see us Orangemen having a shot at the title next year?
Donte Greene (4:35 PM)
Always. We always keep Syracuse in the mix. If I'm not mistaken the last time we went to the NIT we won a championship the next year.
Ryan (Fresno, CA)
Hey Patrick, how much are you leaning towards Florida and the chance of playing for Donovan? I would love to add another championship! Thanks and Go Gators!!
Patrick Patterson (4:36 PM)
I don't know. All the colleges are still at the same level with me.
Henry (NYC)
Derrick, How close to going to indiana were you?
Derrick Rose (4:36 PM)
I was super close. We were in the coaching staff's office. He said you don't want to go all the way to Memphis. He was trying to get me to commit right there. but then Coach Cal came to our house again.
CJ Watson, Delaware
How has it felt be choosen to play all of these different all star events?
Donte Greene (4:37 PM)
A blessing.
Jerryd Bayless (4:37 PM)
It feels good playing in these things. It's a dream come true. I grew up watching them.
Rob (ky)
we've got a great engineering program at UK!!!
CJ Watson, Delaware
What are you four guys looking forward to the most in college?
Patrick Patterson (4:38 PM)
The females.
Patrick Patterson (4:38 PM)
And the education.
Rick(Memphis)
Derrick, great to have you as part of our great city. Really looking forward to playing in the FedEx Fourm. What are your personal and team goals for next season at UofM?
Derrick Rose (4:39 PM)
Work out every day. Push the team and become a leader for them. Hopefully push everyone that's on the court. And pass all my classes.
CJ Watson, Delaware
Patrick, how was this season for you with all the media attention served to OJ? Did it take some pressure off of you?
Patrick Patterson (4:40 PM)
It went smoothly for us because OJ got all the attention in the media and the attention. It was fine. It was less media, less phone calls.
CJ Watson, Delaware
Jerryd are you glad that you decided to recommit to Arizona in the end?
Jerryd Bayless (4:40 PM)
I definitely am. I'm glad to go back there. I was uncomfortable at the time. But now I'm 100% committed to going there.
Ryan (CUSE)
Donte, What eventually was the deciding factor of why you chose Syracuse, and do you talk with the other members of the recruiting class?
Donte Greene (4:41 PM)
The deciding factor was that they were returning no forwards. Actually all four of us are close. We talk every day, getting to know each other.
Matt (NM)
Patterson, how bout playing for University of Okla?
Patrick Patterson (4:42 PM)
How about not.
Yancey
Jerryd: With Marcus Williams headed to the NBA, how will that change your role in your first season?
Jerryd Bayless (4:43 PM)
I think it will make me more of scorer with the team. He provided a lot of scoring last year. I think that's the main thing that will change.
Mike (Bellmore New YOrk)
thats my boy with the females is it hard to keep your grades up with all that basketball?
Patrick Patterson (4:44 PM)
It ain't hard. You go to practice, work out, go to school then your night life is with the females. Then when you have homework, call one of them up and help you study for the tests. I've got it all planned out.
Tom S. (NY, NY)
Donte, are you planning on working on your back to the basket game over the summer? Cuse is thin upfront and could use an offensive threat inside.
Donte Greene (4:44 PM)
Nah, I'm looking to come in and play the three. I'm working on my shot some more. I'm looking to get bigger and stronger.
JOSEPH (MEMPHIS)
Derick what number will you wear next year?
Derrick Rose (4:45 PM)
Anyone they give to me. I wear No. 25, but Penny Hardaway wore it when he was at Memphis. So any number they give to me I'll wear it.
CJ Watson, Delaware
Jerryd do you see yourself playing the PG or SG at Arizona?
Jerryd Bayless (4:45 PM)
I see myself playing both. They told me that they want me to play both, depending on the situation.
Tom (Orlando)
Donte, first I want to welcome you to the Orange, we are all excited about seeing you play next year. It seems that you and Flynn have got quite a bit of chemistry, have you enjoyed playing with him, and how is your relationship with scoop, and rick?
Donte Greene (4:47 PM)
Of course. We started off in the USA game last year and carried it on to the all-star games this year. He's fun to play with.
Doug: Lexington, KY
Patrick, Who were your favorite players growing up?
Patrick Patterson (4:47 PM)
Hakeem Olajuwon. Michael Jordan.
CJ Watson, Delaware
Derrick how did it feel beating the # 1 team Oak Hill Academy this year on national tv?
Derrick Rose (4:48 PM)
I'm not the type to get hyped about one game. It was just like an AAU game. It was a regular game to me.
Skylar (Phoenix)
Jerryd: Is there any chance you could take over the role of point guard and be more like an allen iverson / mike bibby type of player???
Jerryd Bayless (4:48 PM)
Yeah, I could do that. That's no problem.
Tony(Richmond,Virginia)
Hey Donte, i am the biggest cuse fan and i have always wanted to play for Syracuse. How can i make it there?
Donte Greene (4:49 PM)
Grow about 4-6 inches over one summer. Try to go to every event possible - every camp. And make sure you stay in the gym and work hard.
CJ Watson, Delaware
Derrick, how was it to get the chance to play in front of the people of Memphis at the Nike Hoops Summit?
Derrick Rose (4:50 PM)
It was overwhelming. I'll do that next year when they come out to support me. I was in awe throughout the whole game.
Brian (LA)
Patrick, how big a factor is is Noah and Horford are leaving at UF and McRoberts leaving early at Duke?
Patrick Patterson (4:50 PM)
It definitely does. The more players you have leaving, the more chance you have to start and get more playing time.
Phil (Pittsburgh)
Patrick, being from WV have you given Pitt any consideration. You along w/ Dejuan Blair could be the guys to put them over the hump!
Patrick Patterson (4:51 PM)
They're in the recruitment at the beginning of the process. I talked to Coach Dixon for a while. So I've narrowed down my list.
Ryan (Tennessee)
Donte, I also would like to play for syracuse. I'm 26, 5'7" can't shoot, can't jump. How can I get there?
Donte Greene (4:51 PM)
Walk on. We have plenty of space for walk ons. As long as you have a high GPA.
Tom (Syracuse, NY)
Hey Donte, I heard that you were planning on wearing number 15 at SU next year. Is that true? And, if so, do you use the comparisons to Melo as motivation? Thanks and can't wait til you don the orange.
Donte Greene (4:53 PM)
Actually me and Melo had a conversation about this. I probably won't wear it, becauae he wants to get his jersey retired in the next two years. So I'll have to slide back and wear No. 5.
CJ Watson, Delaware
How do each of you feel about all the different coaching changes? Do you feel a player should have a chance to get change school's if a coach leaves?
Patrick Patterson (4:53 PM)
Yeah.
Donte Greene (4:54 PM)
Yeah, but I'm good. My coach ain't going anywhere. If I were in that position, I feel like I should get the right to open back up my recruitment.
Buzzmaster (4:56 PM)
Thanks for chatting guys! We had a blast!
Buzzmaster (4:56 PM)
They're off and running right now to their next event.
