We're getting Mike Brewster right now! Send in your questions!
Buzzmaster (2:59 PM)
We've got Mike and we're ready to go!
What's it like being a OSU commit down in Florida?
Mike Brewster (3:01 PM)
It was intersting, because it's Gator Nation down here. I took some heat after the national championship. But I've always had strong feelings for Ohio State. I'm excited to be an out of state player coming into Ohio State. I think that will be really cool.
Travis (Columbus, OH)
First off, welcome to the Buckeye Nation. Secondly, we'd heard that OSU was your front-runner for a long time, but no one expected a commitment so soon. What made you pull the trigger and commit this past weekend?
Mike Brewster (3:03 PM)
Every time I'm up there I feel like I'm home. We were signing autographs. 75,000 people at the spring game is insane. I went ahead and pulled the trigger. I figured I could get some other recruits. I think it will pay off in the end, committing early. Plus now I can just focus on the football season. It's good to get it over with.
Doug: Denver, Colorado
Mike: How excited are you that when you arrive in Columbus next year you will be blocking for a top 5 Heisman candidate in Beanie Wells? Go Bucks!
Mike Brewster (3:04 PM)
I'm pumped. Beanie Wells is one in a lifetime kind of guys. He's a special, special talent. I'm going to do everything that I can to win a Heisman and make him a top pick in the draft.
Elijah Nichols from Summerville, South Carolina
What was it like to get that chance to play for a powerhouse of that caliber?
Mike Brewster (3:05 PM)
Really, probably the main word is that I'm honored. There have been some good players to come through there. Archie Griffin. So many players have played in The Shoe. I can't wait to play there. It's an honor.
Jason Athens, Ohio
So what is Jim Tressel really like behind the scenes?
Mike Brewster (3:06 PM)
Everyone knows he's a class act guy. He's got a really funny sense of humor. Not many people know that. He's not fake. He'll never lie to you. He's such a good head coach that I can't describe it. But not many people would know about his humor and personality.
Scott Columbus, OH
Welcome to the BuckeyeFamily Mike! I know you're going to have an awesome career here. Andrew Sweat and Josh Jenkins coming here too?
Mike Brewster (3:07 PM)
Actually, I talked to both of them today. I've become close with both. I'm working on Sweat. I think he could be a good LB. He'll probably make a decision in a month. Josh has committed to West Virginia. He's going to take some time with that. Hopefully he'll de-committ and come with us. But I have a good feeling about both becoming Buckeyes.
Doug (Bradenton FL)
Congrats on becoming the next great Buckeye offensive lineman! How did you first become interested in Ohio State and how did your relationship with the coaches (esp. Bollman) factor into your early decision? Go Bucks!
Mike Brewster (3:09 PM)
Actually, I really didn't know anything about OSU until the spring of 9th grade. It's kind of a long story, but a friend of a friend got my video and showed them. They thought I was special from the get go. That's how I got started with him. I have a relationship with Coach Bollman. It's strong even though I haven't played for him. My relationship with Coach Bollman played a big factor. I don't want to let him down and I want to play hard for him.
Jason (Grove City, OH)
Mike, the Ohio State-Michigan game is at the Shoe your freshman year. OL is a seniority position at OSU, do you think youll be starting by the time The Game comes around your freshman year?
Mike Brewster (3:10 PM)
I'm going to get up there in January and work my butt off to do everything I can to get a starting role. That's my goal. I'm not going to say that I'm going to be starting, because no one can say that going into a season. I'll do whatever I have to do to help the team - whether it's playing half the game or all the game.
Whats your take on stepping in to the biggest rivalry michigan v. Ohio St.
Mike Brewster (3:11 PM)
I'm real excited. It's definitely the biggest rivalry in college football. I was at the Michigan game this year. It's something special to be a part of. It will be awesome to be a part of it.
Derek (Manalapan, NJ)
Will Hill and Terrell Pryor would look awful good in Scarlet. What are the chances the Knights have with either?
Mike Brewster (3:12 PM)
Will Hill, I've read some stuff on him, but I'm not sure where he stands. I'll have to check in on that. Terrelle Pryor, I've become friends with him. I talk to him every week. There are a few other OSU recruits that text and call him. I think we have as good a shot as anyone of gettig him.
Matt, Cleveland, OH
How did OSU's dismal performance in the Championship have a factor in your decision. Obviously with the departure of so many key offensive players and two people on the line do you expect to jump right in and get your playing time? Was that a pitch to you in recruiting?
Mike Brewster (3:14 PM)
My thoughts on the game were - first, I was pretty concerned. But me and my brother talked and we talked about how many of the guys that are there will be there when I am there? Not too many. And as far as playing right away, I think I'll have a legitimate shot at achieving that.
Mike (Columbus, OH)
Are there any schools still recruiting you, even though you've verballed to OSU?
Mike Brewster (3:15 PM)
Florida had asked me if I was solid and I said yes and I haven't heard from them since. USC is still recruiting me. But other than that, it hasn't been too bad. I think most guys know my character and know I wouldn't change my word.
Doug (Charlotte, NC)
Mike, What was the craziest thing that occurred during the recruiting process?
Mike Brewster (3:16 PM)
I would probably say Saturday, signing autographs. Footballs, helmets, hats, flags. I would say that's the craziest and coolest thing.
Rich (Kermit, WV)
Do you know if you will you be playing Guard, or Center at Ohio State?
Mike Brewster (3:17 PM)
First off, they said that they think I can play anywhere. But with JB and Mike coming in, they're more tackles. I would like to play center. They're good at getting centers to the league, but if I can get in at guard, I'll do that too.
Andres (Washington DC)
How good can this OL class Ohio State is recruiting be?
Mike Brewster (3:18 PM)
I'm not sure what past classes have looked like. I think this could be one of the top classes ever, in Ohio State's history. The best guy out of Ohio, possibly one of the best out of Texas, West Virginia. I think we're all hungry and will do what it takes to be successful.
Ty : Columbus, OH
Your ranked the #1 Offensve Lineman in the nation according to these guys. Do you ever mess with J.B. and Mike Adams about that. A little competition within friends?!
Mike Brewster (3:19 PM)
No, I'm actually really, really humble. I get uncomfortable if anyone's talking about me around me. But there will definitely be some competition at practice next year, trying to get on the field.
What seperated OSU from the rest of the schools recruiting you?
Mike Brewster (3:20 PM)
I'd say, first off Coach Bollman and Tressel. The whole coaching staff is awesome. There's not one thing that I don't like about Ohio State. The fans are football crazy, even over offensive linemen, which is really unusual.
Craig Haubert (3:21 PM)
Looking at your own game, what are the things you want to improve going into college?
Mike Brewster (3:22 PM)
First off, I want to get faster and stronger. I'm always working out and working on my speed and agility. I'm working on my pass protection. And the main thing is my knowledge of the game. I'd say that's number one.
Chuck (Cincinnati, OH)
How much interaction with currently rostered players do you have when you visit Ohio State? Are you somewhat sequestered or do you mingle freely.
Mike Brewster (3:23 PM)
I mingled with them quite a bit. I was usually with the o-line. I hung out with Barton quite a bit. He's a real nice guy. He's a lot like me. I hung out with Boone that night after I committed. I hung out with pretty much the whole o-line.
Buzzmaster (3:28 PM)
Thanks to Mike for stopping by! OSU is lucky to have him!
Billy Tucker (3:29 PM)
Great job and good luck Mike!
Billy Tucker (3:30 PM)
What's up everybody I have recently jumped onboard with Scout Inc. and dived into the exciting world of college football recruiting. Enough about me, time for your questions!
Ryan (Palm Bay, FL)
Which O-line prospects do you think USC will land?
Billy Tucker (3:33 PM)
Ryan it's very early and as we know verbals can change 2 or 3 times until February. We like two of USC's current OL commits, Matt Meyer and Matt Kalil(brother of Ryan). Both are 6 foot 7 tackles and very athletic.
Bob (Texarkana, Texas)
Hey Billy, which linebacker in this class do you think has the best chance to make an immediate impact in college?
Billy Tucker (3:35 PM)
Transitioning to linebacker is a tough task for most college freshmen. They must adjust their reads and reactions to a whole new level of speed and possess the physical size to take a pounding. ILB Arthur Brown from Wichita, Kansas -- could be ready to make a name for himself early.
Nick (Grand Rapids, MI)
Who do you think is the best tight end in the country? Is it either of the two Notre Dame recruits?
Billy Tucker (3:38 PM)
I just did a Blog on ND's latest commits and their good class thus far -- it's on the Recruiting Insider. Fauria and Rudolph(ND commits) are both tall, athletic and very good prospects. Currently, TE Jonathan Baldwin is at the top of our board -- at 6 foot 6 and 220 pounds, he can catch like a receiver and block like a tackle.
RIC ATL, GA
YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE MIAMI HURRICANES?
Billy Tucker (3:40 PM)
In terms of recruiting Ric, we think Shannon is doing a great job and should continue to land verbals from top in-state prospects like Patrick Johnson. He is a physically impressive athlete at corner -- talented receiver as well.
Stephon (Los Angeles, CA)
Yo Billy, when's the ESPN 150 coming out???
Billy Tucker (3:42 PM)
We are still working hard evaluating a ton of talent. Look for the release in early August.
Dear Billy I would like to see Dick McPhearson return to the college game. Could you see that happening?
Billy Tucker (9:22 PM)
Great question Chioke. Being a Northeast guy I am a big fan of Coach MacPherson and the job he did at Syracuse and Umass. That would be great -- not sure if it's realistic at this time though.
Billy Tucker (9:22 PM)
Thanks for the great questions today and to big Mike for stopping by! Look forward to chatting again soon
