Buzzmaster (1:00 PM)
Alright everyone, we are about to get Kidder in here! Keep the questions coming!
Mad Mike (Houston)
And because I neither have a job, or a life, I will now introduce to you one of my role models, The Kidder! He isn't my love slave like Jeremy Green, but I know Keith Kidd values my fanship just as much. All hail Mad Mike, I mean Keith Kidd! MM
Keith Kidd (1:05 PM)
Glad to be back talking NFL football with SportsNation. Let's get rolling with your NFL questions!
Keith...does Faneca (a)play out the year & walk,(b)get traded, or (c)sign a long?term deal? I say put the money towards resigning Big Ben & our Samoan missile #43.
Keith Kidd (1:06 PM)
He'll play the year out, I assume. And then he will be elsewhere in 08. Let's face it Feneca is a great player but the Steelers, in my opinion, are not going to pay top dollar for an OG.
Keith, What the heck is going on with Corey Simon??? We have a good amount of money tied up in him. Any chance he plays this year?
Keith Kidd (1:07 PM)
Greg, from what I am being told, the club is trying to get the signing bonus money back from Simon, which would allow them to free up some cap money down the road. I don't anticipate him playing in Indianapolis this year.
kk, you cover the nfc south last season, what are the saints chances of repeating as division champs?
Keith Kidd (1:08 PM)
I think theya re very good. The Saints posses one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. ANd if this team can improve on defense they might be the best team in the NFC, equal to the Bears.
Kidder if you are Romeo Crennel, how do you go about developing Brady Quinn? Throw his butt in the fire, sit him for a year? Sit him for half a season and then start him? And Romeo needs to win some games now, so will that make him do something that may hinder Quinn's development, ie play him too soon?
Keith Kidd (1:10 PM)
I'd start him from day one, in order to buy me some more time. But I think that Frye will get the nod early in the season. Because if this team struggles early, there could be a coaching change when the Browns have the bye week. But I would start him from day one, but I am not the head coach.
Kidder are the Giants quietly rebuilding this season, looking towards 2008? No Tiki, no OLT, they've commited to Eli, and Coughlin got a one year extension, and we all know what that means. Just seems like they need a year to recover and rebuild around some of their solid pieces.
Keith Kidd (1:11 PM)
Absolutely. Based on what they have done in the offseason it is obvious to me Coughlin will not be the coach in '08. There are question marks all over this team staring at QB, and Jacobs, and then the defensive side if the ball.
Joe (AZ via Chicago)
Kidder - long time no see... How much of an impact do you think Hester will have on the Bears offense? And, if Grossman doesn't put up Pro-Bowl type numbers this year, is he gone after this season? Thanks!
Keith Kidd (1:12 PM)
Thanks Joe. I would think they will game plan different situations to get Hester involved in the offense. But it is all going to come down to how Grossman performs this season. If he does not get it done than I do not seem him coming back to the Bears next season.
Kidder who has a better 2007, Vick or Shaub? (And I mean more individual success than team success)
Keith Kidd (1:14 PM)
Defintely Vick. It is a great question. I think Vick will put up more numbers on the ground based on his athleticism. While Schaub will put up more numbers in the air. It will take Schaub some time because he has not played, and there are going to be some growing pains there. But I will take Vick this year based on Schaub's inexperience and the fact that Atlanta has more weapons.
Stu V (Georgia)
KK, longtime reader, first time chat submitter...what do you think of hired gun Bobby Petrino's ability to mold the Falcons and will Michael Vick let the dogs out this year? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Keith Kidd (1:16 PM)
Stu, thanks for reading. There is no doubt that Pertino was put in place to improve Vick, not only as a pocket passer but also to improve his completion percentage. This is a huge year for Vick in this offense. If he does not get it done, than the Falcons will have to do all they can next year to go and get Brian Brohm out of Louisville.
What does Goddell now? With Henry's drug bust coming out he has to stick by his word and kick him out out the league, right? anything else shows his total lack of power and backbone
Keith Kidd (1:18 PM)
What do the Bengals do? If I am Lewis I just cut all ties with the guy and move on. He is a very talented player and brings a whole new dimension to the offense. But enough is enough. Maybe it is time to move on in Cincy, if the report is true.
John (Norwalk, CT)
Keith - now that my Sabres are out of the Hockey playoffs...I turn my attention to the Bills and I do not like what I see - Is there anything to be excited about with this team??? They were an overachieving 7-9 last year and have regressed in my eyes cleaning up shop, especially on defense...
Keith Kidd (1:20 PM)
Sorry about your Sabres. Yes, the team took a lot of hits in the offseason, but they still have the ability to put up points on offense if Losman can keep playing as he did last year, and Lynch can come in a be the feature back to take pressure off Losman. But they also need to figure out the defense, with all the hits they took in the offseason.
Jon (Phoenix, AZ)
If Lance Briggs holds out indefinitely. Will the Bears shop him around?
Keith Kidd (1:21 PM)
Jon, the Bears have been shopping him around. They are not just going to give him away. I don't think he will sit out, because he wants to make the money.
Kent (Washington DC)
Hi Keith, all the pundits are down on Tavaris Jackson. Do you feel that adding Peterson will take enough pressure off of him to develop more quickly? I'm not saying Super Bowl, but I do think they have a shot at second in the NFC North.
Keith Kidd (1:25 PM)
He is going to have to take pressure off of him along with Taylor. But people are down on him because he has not played a lot. And this is a team that has a chance to be pretty good on defense. But based on what I saw last year nothing gave me an indication that this guy is the answer in Minnesota.
Erik (Londonderry, NH)
Hey Keith. What possible trades and/or releases do you see prior to the start of training camps?
Keith Kidd (1:26 PM)
Maybe Trent Green to Miami, which could mean the end of Culpepper in Miami. With the post-June 1 rules changing it has taken away a lot of the excitment of player getting terminated.
todd robison (ca)
will the raiders double their wins from last season this season?
Keith Kidd (1:27 PM)
Yes. They have two winable games at home against Detroit and Cleveland. This team is going to be better for the simple reason that the offense is going to be much improved. Hopefully Kiffen can get it figured out quickly, because this team will be very good on defense under Rob Ryan.
David (New Rochelle, NY)
kk - i am perplexed with your earlier answer about the Giants; are you saying that the front office is willing to hang out Coughlin by not filling the holes up and down the roster? If that's the plan, why not let coughlin go and also how can they risk the health of Eli by not having a decent lt?
Keith Kidd (1:30 PM)
What I am saying, based on what they have done it has given me no indication that this team has gotten any better. And Coughlin has to win this year. Sorry Giants fans, it is a rebuilding year.
Remy - Atl
Hi Keith - interesting situation here in ATL. Half the people here are sick of Vick and think he should have been traded over the offseason and the other half still idolize him. However, with each new day, the first side grows and the second side shrinks. Now, I am not one to say the guy is guilty before he is even charged, but I seriously don't see a way for him to rebuild enough fan support here to remain. Just wanted to get your thoughts on this and the tough spot Mr. Blank has placed himslef in through his unwaivering commitment to Vick. Thank you!
Keith Kidd (1:31 PM)
Without a doubt. All eyes will be on Vick this year, and if he does not get it done ON the field this team will have to move on.
Sean (Washington DC)
What is your take on the Redskins this year and where will they finish in their conference? Thanks.
Keith Kidd (1:33 PM)
I think offensively they can be very explosive but it is all going to come down to the development of Jason Campbell. But again defensively this team has a lot of holes. They have to be able to pressure the QB. This team underperformed under Greg Williams, and they are going to have to step it up.
matt (university of delaware)
hey keith, what's your take on the packers in general..i think we've got a young team but a good team, and i think our defense will be tops in the league next year, and our offense will be better...whatchu say to that?
Keith Kidd (1:35 PM)
Without a doubt, Ted Thompson has proved he will build this team through the draft. I just thought they would be more aggresive in the FA market in getting Favre more weapons. This team will be pretty good on defense, and Favre gives this team a chance week in and week out, until they can get the running game up and going with Morency, Herron, and second round pick Brandon Jackson. This team is lucky to be playing in the NFC and not the AFC.
RJ (Fullerton, CA)
What are your thoughts on Wade Phillips's chances for success in Dallas? How can you play 1 gap in a 3-4?
Keith Kidd (1:37 PM)
I think they are pretty good because I think this team is very talented. They will be much improved on defense, based on the design and schemes that Phillips will run. The interesting thing to me is Romo's development.
Marsh (St. Louis)
What chance do you give the Rams to win the division? I know they got some questions on defense, but their offense is gonna be explosive and their special teams has improved.
Keith Kidd (1:39 PM)
I think that the NFC West is wide open, and all four teams can win the division if they can stay healthy. The Rams should be one of the most explosive teams in the league, but the defense could be their achilles heel. Look for some explosive, explosive offense in St. Louis this year. There could be some shootouts if this defense does not show up.
Joseph Feldstein (Stamford, CT)
With Leinart at QB, what kind of production can i expect from Fitzgerald and Boldin this year?
Keith Kidd (1:41 PM)
These two combined for over 100 catches a piece a few years ago. If both can stay healthy look for both to put up some huge numbers, in an offense that will be geared more to the running game and balance under Wissenhunt.
Sears, Buenning, Joseph, and Trueblood form a potentially very good, young offensive line. Will they help Cadillac rebound from his poor 2006 season.
Keith Kidd (1:42 PM)
The thing that will help Cadillac and the running game is going to have to be the improved production and perfomance at QB. They need to throw the ball well down field, in order to back people off and create better inside lanes for Williams. So the QB has to play better whether it be Garcia or Simms.
Money, J (Lawrence, KS)
Hey K-Money; What's up with everyone talking negatively on the chiefs. Yes their line is gone, but they FINALLY got a WR to keep men out of the box for L.J. AND our defense is set with Great CB's Young Safeties, Great LB's and now some DL. Why is everyone SO negative on us? Is it that were just in the midwest and get no love...? Show us some love Keith!
Keith Kidd (1:45 PM)
The biggest concern is the QB position. Whether it is Huard or Croyle. That is the biggest concern I have. It is obvious since Herm has taken over this team he has tried to get younger, unlike Vermeil who prefered older, more veteran teams. And with that move towards younger players there is going to be growing pains along the way.
Keith, I know that the Chargers have great talent, but their GM, did he pull a Jerry Krauss and diss the entire coaching staff to show that anyone could win with his players?
Keith Kidd (1:47 PM)
It sure seems that way based on what they did with their coaching staff in the offseason. When a GM and head coach don't see eye to eye or can't be in the same room together, change is going to happen. The Chargers easily have one of the most talented teams in the league, but I'm concerned with how Turner is going to handle this team.
Hey Keith, how do you think Jay Cutler will fare in year 2 under the Mike Shanahan system? He got a lot of weapons in the offseason (Stokley, Graham, Henry...) plus he has Javon Walker coming back two years removed from the ACL tear (plus Javon looked great last year while playing with 2 different QBs).
Keith Kidd (1:48 PM)
I think you will see a huge jump from year one to year two based on his familiarity with Shanahan's system. When you mention teams in the AFC you have to put Denver up there with the Chargers, Pats, Colts, and Ravens.
I can't wait for football season!
Keith with Seattle getting a Pro Bowl DE and 2 new safeties to sure up the secondary. IF they are healthy is it SB or bust?
Dustin (Dayton, OH)
Channel 12 in Cincy is now reporting Henry may have not failed.Seems the reports about Henry could be false! With or without Henry do you see the Bengals back in the playoffs?
Keith Kidd (1:50 PM)
Healthy is the key word there. Even though they will be the lead dogs in the West, everyone in the division got better. But it is too early in the year to make any predictions.
Keith Kidd (1:52 PM)
I do think Cincinnati has a great shot at winning the division or the Wild Card based on their offense. But this team has not played consistently well on defense since Marvin Lewis became the coach.
Big Dan (SF)
Jeremy from Bellevue, Seattle will have to get by the 49ers first. Seattle couldn't even beat them when the 9ers didn't have a defense. 49ers for NFC West champs.
KK, it's time my Ravens started getting mentioned. Every year no one ever talks about them. 95% of the reporters and sports talk people don't give us the respect we deserve. Will this year be any different of will everyone be shocked when McNair gets his first SuperBowl ring?
Keith Kidd (1:54 PM)
Defensively the Ravens will be outstanding again. However, when you watch McNair play last year, the one element that was lacking was his ability to throw vertically down the field and that is an area they are going to have to improve on because they do have three explosive playmakers in Clayton, Mason, and Heap. And I think McGahee will be a huge upgrade over Jamaal Lewis. But this team is going to have to make plays down field.
Do you think Jason Campbell, like Jay Cutler, will show significant improvement in year 2 of the Saunders offense?
Keith Kidd (1:56 PM)
I think the one thing you have to watch in Washington this year is that Gibbs will be more involved in the offense, much like he was in the last four games of last season.
Big Dan (SF)
Keith, what teams had the best overall offseason? Are these teams now positioned to make significant playoff pushes?
Keith Kidd (1:59 PM)
To it was the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, and San Francisco 49ers. Those are four teams thast come to mind right now. But everything will be judged and graded at the end of the season. It looks good now, but it can all change with holdouts, injuries, etc. But I think all of them helped themsleves. But no one can match what the Pats did based on Belichick's very aggressive approach in the offseason.
Keith, Considering what Tony Dungy has done in both Tampa and Indy, is he a HOF'r?
Keith Kidd (2:01 PM)
Without a doubt, I think, Tony Dungy will some day be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He is not just a great coach but a great person. He is a tremendous role model in the NFL for young kids and he is a great coach. There is not one person I have spoken to who has worked for him who does not love being around the guy.
Billy G. (Cleveland, OH)
Keith, will you coach the Browns. I just read that you wouldn't start Frye. That's good enough for me!
How long until Greg Olsen takes over Dez Clark's spot as Bears starting tight end? I think Olsen is the real deal, and I have no idea how he slid to number 31 on the draft.
Keith Kidd (2:02 PM)
Look for Olsen to be heavily involved in the two TE packages and multiple spread offesive groupings in passing situations. He brings an element at TE that their offense has been lacking. But he needs to improve a lot as a blocker in order to overtake Clark.
I. Hulk (NY)
Keith, I've seen you answer a few questions about the Giants...what about the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS? The team showed it was capable of playing together last year and should be much improved with Revis locking down the corner position
Keith Kidd (2:04 PM)
Hey man like I have said from day one, you Jets fans have a great young coach in Mangini, and the future looks very bright.
Keith Kidd (2:07 PM)
Hey guys thanks for a great hour show. I will be back next month, when a lot of the offseason camps and final minicamps have concluded. Everyone have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend. Kidder
