Eric's here!
Will from Phoenix, AZ
Congratulations on being drafted. How did you celebrate last night knowing that you have to play tomorrow?
Eric Sogard (2:53 PM)
Well, I had to keep it to a short celebration. I found out in my hotel room with a bunch of teammates. Later that night we had to practice. I got to celebrate with practice.
Tyler Bailey, Diamond Bar, California
What's going on Sogie? Congrats on Defensive player of the year and keep up the good work! Are you going to stay with the Sun Devils for another year or will you be attending the Padres Organization?
Eric Sogard (2:54 PM)
You know, I'm probably going to go with the Padres. They've given me a great opportunity. My time here at ASU has been a great experience for me. I couldn't have gotten where I am without ASU.
Jason Vicksburg MS
Name one thing that ole miss does better than ASU and how will you combat that?
Eric Sogard (2:54 PM)
Well, we know they have some strong arms coming at us, but I think we have some big bats. As you've seen throughout the season, we've been able to put up some runs no matter who we've faced.
victor alexandria, la
what do you have to do to beat ole miss tomorrow?your thoughts.
Eric Sogard (2:55 PM)
Just come at them early. Going out with the first pitch and not let down. It's going to be tough to come from behind knowing that their pitching is strong.
Paolo(Tempe, AZ)
Eric, I've heard Coach Murphy is a pretty odd character. Got any good questions?
Eric Sogard (2:56 PM)
Well, Murph just loves to have fun. He's a great guy. He'll make fun of us all the time in a loving way. People can see him as a hard coach to play under. Coming here, I was kind of scared, hearing all the stories. But I love him as a coach. He's very knowledgeable about the game.
Josh (Mesa,AZ)
Eric how exciting is it to hear your name called in the second round of the MLB draft?
Eric Sogard (2:57 PM)
It was unbelievable experience for me. It was truly a dream come true for me. I've been wanting to play MLB as long as I can remember. It's truly remarkable. I'm just amazed.
tony (pittsburgh)
do u think your team has a shot of going all the wasy?
Eric Sogard (2:57 PM)
I think we have a great chance, espeically if our pitching stays strong and we play defense behind them. I think we'll have a really good shot and don't get ahead of ourselves.
Lee Florschuetz, Phoenix AZ
Do you think the added attention from the media you are getting now because of the super-regional and your second round draft selection might affect your play in the super-regional because of added pressure you might feel?
Eric Sogard (2:58 PM)
Not at all. We've had media throughout the season. We deal with it. There's some pressure, but we don't let the outside influences effect our play. We just do what we've been doing all year.
Ron (Roswell, NM)
Was one of your goals this season to hit .400? I see your a couple good series away from doing it.
Eric Sogard (2:59 PM)
Yeah, that was definitely one of my goals was to hit .400. We talked about it and it was just to go up there and not try to do too much. Even if I don't hit .400, I've come close and I feel successful in that area.
kevin (phoenix)
Let's Go Devils! How will you celebrate winning the super regional? (an unacceptable answer is travelling to Omaha).
Eric Sogard (3:00 PM)
Of course we have to win it first. We can't do too big of a celebration, because our goal is to go to Omaha and win that as well. We can't get too far ahead of ourselves.
Ken (Woodland Park, CO)
Is it hard to stay focused on this weekend with all of the draft excitement, etc. going on around you?
Eric Sogard (3:01 PM)
For all of us, it's just a great thing to be drafted and all, but we have our focus and that's to play and win the Super Regional and go on to Omaha. Nothing right now could effect that - our goals and what we're trying to accomplish.
Sun Devil David (Menlo Park, CA)
Eric ... thank you for representing ASU so well and congrats on being taken in the 2nd round of the draft. For the first game against Ole Miss, what are you doing to prepare for them, and is it any different from any other game?
Eric Sogard (3:02 PM)
Not really. We know they're going to have strong arms coming at us and we're focusing on facing harder pitches. We're going into the cages and look at harder pitches. We're going at it the same way we have.
Pie Trainer Tempe, AZ
Eric, Congrats on being taken in the 2nd round! How hard is it to play and remain focused/confident when Coach Murphy is consistently changing the lineup?
Eric Sogard (3:03 PM)
We understand what Murph's going through. He's going to give us the best chance to win. I know it's tough for some guys who go in for two innings and come out. They accept that. It is a little awkward for some guys at some point. But we stick together.
Josh (Oklahoma City)
Who is your funniest teamate?
Eric Sogard (3:04 PM)
I'd say Ike Davis has to be up there. He likes to joke around. He's a great teammate and we all love him so much. He loves to have fun. When the time comes to get serious he does. He's the man in big situations.
Brian (Phoenix)
What are your thoughts on the Diamondbacks?
Eric Sogard (3:04 PM)
Yeah, I am. I've grown up a Diamondbacks fan my whole life. I've been to a few games there. Seeing them win the World Series so early in their history was great.
Gina, Tempe
WHo is your roommate on the road? Do you like him or is he assigned to you?
Eric Sogard (3:05 PM)
Yeah, we get roommates. It's usually random, but right now we get to choose. Right now it's Brett Wallace. I love him to death. But it doesn't matter, because we're all so close.
Shane San Diego, CA
I am a HUGE Sundevil supporter and lifelong Padre fan. So, you can imagine my excitement when I saw that you had been drafted by the Pads. How exciting has it been for you getting drafted while preparing for your super regional with Ole Miss?
Eric Sogard (3:06 PM)
It was unbelievable experience to be drafted by them. I watched them at spring training growing up. I am now a Padres fan after getting drafted.
Ali, Tempe
What do you guys do to stay loose on road trips?
Eric Sogard (3:07 PM)
There's really not much to do. We like to chill around the hotel and hang out together. Some guys bring video games or movies. It's good to just relax on road games.
Jason (Tempe, AZ)
Eric, you have been able to stay healthy for most of the season as well as most of your team. Do you have any secret behind that?
Eric Sogard (3:07 PM)
No. We just all believe in eating healthy and working out as much as possible. It's been a huge success for our team to be healthy. It's been amazing because it doesn't hurt our team at all and keeps us strong.
Sydney, Tempe
Do you have a pregame ritual?
Eric Sogard (3:08 PM)
No pregame rituals.
pat bohemia ny
wat is your team thinking and talking about coming into this weekend?
Eric Sogard (3:09 PM)
Well, we're all excited because this is what we've been working for all year. Just knowing that we're working toward accomplishing our goals is exciting. Hopefully we'll reach our potential and go to Omaha and win the whole thing.
Staci, Tempe
Do you have any teammates who play pranks on each other?
Eric Sogard (3:09 PM)
Well, not neccessarily pranks, but we love to joke with each other. We just love to have fun. We're just a bunch of brothers playing out there.
Eric Sogard (3:10 PM)
Thank you for all your support. Keep supporting us and hopefully we'll carry it all the way to Omaha.
