Wichita State (53-20) hosts the Wichita Super Regional against UC Irvine (43-15-1), which starts Saturday (Noon ET, ESPN2). Wichita State earned a berth in the Super Regionals the hard way, by coming back through the loser's bracket in the Wichita Regional and defeating Arizona twice in the final two games to advance. The Shockers lost their first game in the Regional 7-6 to New Orleans. Wichita State then defeated Oral Roberts 11-4 before winning the rematch with New Orleans 7-3. Then the Shockers defeated Arizona 4-3 and 3-0 in the clincher to complete the comeback.

Have you always been a catcher? If you weren't a catcher, what position would you most like to play?
Tyler Weber (4:03 PM)
I've always been a catcher, ever since T-ball. If I weren't catching, I'd like to play first or be a pitcher.
Jaden Sioux Falls S.D.
Do you expect to go as far as you did this year or farther next year with all the juniors on the team like you?
Tyler Weber (4:04 PM)
We had real high expectations for this year. Going into the year, we knew we had a real strong core of a team. We had real high expectations.
McPherson KS
Do you have any room in the catcher's box for big Shocker Fan who was not able to get a ticket to the Super Regional?
Tyler Weber (4:04 PM)
I wish. All the fans that would like to come, I wish they could come.
Raymond (Wichita, KS)
How does it feel to be the hometown boy catching on a Shocker baseball team?
Tyler Weber (4:05 PM)
It feels real good. It's just a cool experience to just be able to play in front a whole bunch of people that watched you grow up. It's cool to bring a sense of pride to Wichita.
David (Chicago,IL)
What does your off-season workout consist of?
Tyler Weber (4:06 PM)
We do a lot of weight lifting. We don't work a whole lot with the coaches, because of time restraints. You do a lot of it by yourself, with your conditioning and strength training.
Jason, Mulvane,KS
How did you celebrate the big win Monday night?
Tyler Weber (4:07 PM)
I went out to eat with my parents. It was actually their anniversary. So we went out to eat with them and then went home and went to bed.
Dale (Wichita, KS)
Against a team like UC Irvine, where it will require working ahead in the count, how much time do you have to spend learning their lineup? How will it affect how you call your game?
Tyler Weber (4:08 PM)
I don't spend too much time studying the way they hit. We work a lot off of our pitchers' strength. We always strive to get a first pitch strike and work ahead in the count. All of our pitchers are able to do that with their fastballs or offspeed stuff. We have to pitch to our pitchers' strengths.
TAMMY, WICHITA, KS.
T-WEB, WHAT WAS IT LIKE PLAYING IN FRONT OF THAT CROWD LAST WEEKEND? DO YOU THINK ANYTHING CAN EVER TOP THAT FEELING?
Tyler Weber (4:09 PM)
It's pretty undescribable. It's crazy to hear 8,000 fans yelling for you to do something right. It's huge that Wichita hasn't seen us play to our best baseball until this past weekend. When everyone gets loud, it takes your breath away and it makes you feel good that you're doing stuff right.
TIFFANY, MULVANE KS.
TYLER, I CAME UP WITH A NEW NICKNAME FOR YOU AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT IT, ITS WEBMASTER, AND I THINK ITS PERFECT!! THANKS GO SHOX
Tyler Weber (4:09 PM)
Yeah, I like it.
Jeaneen, Peoria, AZ
How do you personally prepare yourself for a Super Regional. Is is any different from a "regular" game?
Tyler Weber (4:10 PM)
I'm a religious man and I do a lot of praying before any game. I pray for more than just myself, but for my team that they come out with the will to win. The whole team has to believe that and myself as well. We have to be ready to go out and win and know their tendencies. If we do that we'll be fine.
Cesar (Chicago,IL)
Who is your favorite catcher in the MLB?
Tyler Weber (4:11 PM)
I would have to say Pudge Rodriguez. He's been my favorite catcher ever since I was a little guy watching him.
Palmer Newton Kansas
Tyler, my son attended the WSU hitting camp this year. You did the Vedio analysis with us. Last night he hit two triples. You did a super job. Play tough. Palmers
Tyler Weber (4:11 PM)
Thank you.
Greg, Wichita, KS
UC Irvine is a real tough team. What have you heard about them?
Tyler Weber (4:12 PM)
They are a tough team. They do a lot of the little things. They play small ball. They try to make you mess up. They don't make a lot of mistakes. We'll just have to come out and put the ball in play. They'll try to make things happen with small ball. They're not going to try and hit home runs all game. They'll try to squeak out runs whenever they can.
Trip (Wichita, KS)
Are you thinking about the MLB Draft in the midst of your recent success in the Regional, upcoming Super Regional and College World Series hype?
Tyler Weber (4:13 PM)
I haven't put too much focus on it. I've been doing a lot of praying and putting my life into God's hands. Whatever happens happens. I haven't put too much thought into it or worry about it.
David (Chicago,IL)
Which MLB pitcher would you most like to catch for?
Tyler Weber (4:14 PM)
There are a whole bunch of them. I'd like to catch Randy Johnson to see what it's like to catch him throwing sidearm at 100 MPH.
Raymond (Wichita, KS)
Who is the goofiest player on the baseball team?
Tyler Weber (4:14 PM)
Wow. Well, we can always count on Matt Brown for something goofy. He's always got something goofy to say.
Jackson (RoseHill, KS)
Do you do anything special before a game to get pumped up?
Tyler Weber (4:15 PM)
We do a team prayer and I do a prayer myself. That's about the only thing that I do on a consistent basis. I don't have any superstitions or anything.
James ( Denver )
How hard is it for you to develop a trust from all the pitchers,so they have confidence in you when you put a sign down and they throw it without reservations.
Tyler Weber (4:16 PM)
It's not something that comes immediately. It takes some time. It started when I was a freshman and I had to catch a lot of bullpens. In the games, you have to prove it to them that you can block balls or that you know what you're calling behind the plate. When you start performing for them, they know that you can do it and makes them a better pitcher.
Greg. Wichita, KS
Is the Shocks offense finally starting to gel after some fits and starts during the regular season?
Tyler Weber (4:17 PM)
Yeah, I think this Regional tournament helped out a lot. Throughout the whole year, different guys would go through spurts. I think everybody started to click in the Regionals and if we can keep that going, we'll be a tough team to beat.
Jason, Mulvane,KS
Tyler, congratulations on what has been a very exciting baseball season!!! I have experienced every game, either in person or on the radio, my question is as follows: It seems to me that you have thrown out an above average number of runners after "dropped" third strikes, is that a result of a specific pitching strategy or some odd coincidence? GOOD LUCK this weekend! YOU ARE A WALL BEHIND THE PLATE AND YOU MASH LIKE A STUD!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES THIS YEAR AND I HOPE TO SEE YOU IN OMAHA!
Tyler Weber (4:19 PM)
I think it can go along with the pitching strategy, because if you can get a guy down in the count, you can throw a slider in the dirt or a changeup in the dirt. You can get them going after it. I think it plays into our pitcher's strategy and making the guy chase instead of hitting a good pitch.
Jackson (RoseHill, KS)
Who is your favorite MLB team? Is there a team you would like to play for someday?
Tyler Weber (4:19 PM)
I've always been a fan of the Chicago White Sox. I guess I'd like to play for them someday.
Tyler Weber (4:19 PM)
But shoot, I'll play for any MLB team.
Trip (Wichita, KS)
How did it feel hitting the "game-winning" homer in the 3-0 Championship win against Arizona compared to catching almost a perfect game from Banwart, or hitting a walk-off homer to win your highschool state title?
Tyler Weber (4:21 PM)
They're all pretty cool feelings. There's not one that just sticks out more than another. Catching Banwart was probably the best thing, because he having a couple of tough outings before and then coming out like that, as a catcher it makes you feel good seeing him come out like that. For the home run, I just prayed to God that I could get something going and he provided. It was a great time. A lot of fun.
Greg, Wichita, KS
How has Andy Womack become such an effective pitcher out of the pen?
Tyler Weber (4:22 PM)
To start the year, he kind of had a rough outing his first time out, but the thing that he did, he didn't take it too hard. During practice or any free time, he was always working on something. He stayed mentally ready. He was always working to get better. The next outing he had, he had 8 K's in 3 innings. He's just been working. He works both sides of the plate. He throws in the low 90s and has some good offspeed. Ever since he had that good outing, he's taken it and run with it.
JJ (Wichita)
T-How does Gene get you guys prepared for teams you haven't seen a lot of like Irvine?
Tyler Weber (4:23 PM)
He just tells us what to expect. What their tendencies are, what they do to other teams. We just take that and compare them to other teams. Irvine will play a lot like Pepperdine or the other West Coast teams.
Tyler Weber (4:24 PM)
Thanks for all the questions. I hope to see you all this weekend.
