Buzzmaster (2:56 PM)
Hey everyone, we're getting Marcus a bit early, so keep sending in those questions!
Lando (Jefferson, Texas)
Have you had a chance to visit any of the schools you are considering? How much of a chance does Notre Dame have in landing you?
Marcus Forston (2:57 PM)
Right now, Notre Dame has a good chance, they're paying a lot of attention to me.
Hey Marcus,When did you figure out theat you might have a career in football? Thanks!
Marcus Forston (2:58 PM)
I first figured it out in the seventh grade, my brother's friends started training me to play varsity football.
Hey Marcus, as a Miami fan I'd love to see you give your committment to Randy Shannon and the U today, but just how hard is it sifting through all the mail and call's that you get from the many different schools that are after you? thanks...and please stay home and be a Cane!
Marcus Forston (2:59 PM)
Right now, I have a lot of letters, so it's not easy to narrow them down. I'm not committed to anyone yet.
Chad (Austin, TX)
Marcus, What has been the most difficult part of the recruiting process for you? Thanks!
Marcus Forston (2:59 PM)
People call you all times of the night and test you all day, so it gets a bit aggravating at times.
Marcus. Do you have any preference about playing a 4-3 vs. a 3-4. With the number of 3-4 teams in the NFL increasing, do you think it might help you make it. PS. Pick ND man... you'll be a beast in Coach Corwin's system!!!!!!!
Marcus Forston (3:00 PM)
I'd definitely like to play a 3-4, because it gives me a chance to line up over center, but when the ball is snapped, it's all the same.
Mr. Forston, What is your primary factor in deciding on which college you will attend? GO IRISH!!!!
Marcus Forston (3:01 PM)
It's going to be a college with a winning tradition that will support me as well.
How much does location play into the decision...You could find yourself playing in Miami at home surrounded by friends and family(not to mention newly committed Hurricane QB Jacory Harris from your highschool Miami Northwestern) or you could find yourself in a totally new enviroment surrounded by players from different locations around the country. How does this breakdown affect your decision?
Marcus Forston (3:02 PM)
It's not that important to me. If you want to play ball, you want to play ball.
Fort Lauderdale Florida
Marcus, what number do you plan to wear in college? And what other florida HS players are you close with besides your boys at Northwestern? Go Canes and Go Bulls
Marcus Forston (3:02 PM)
I'd like to wear #99, and I'm close with a lot of guys from UM at Ole Miss and Rutgers.
Most say you're the best DT from South Florida since Vince Wilfork. What's it like dealing with those expectations, and how do you stay humble?
Marcus Forston (3:03 PM)
Vince Wilfork's a tremendous DT, and it's going to be my goal to try to beat some of his records. I'm going to trey to lay down that there's a new sheriff in town.
Hey Marcus, what has been so attractive about Miami from a recruit's perspective now that Randy Shannon is head coach? What has changed inside the program to make it seem more appealing to recruits? Go Canes, hope you join the family!
Marcus Forston (3:04 PM)
It's down-to-earth, and the defensive scheme hasn't changed much.
Sean (Boulder, CO)
Hey Marcus, any timeline on when you will make your decision?
Marcus Forston (3:04 PM)
It's gonna be sometime after the season.
what nfl player do you most compare your game too?
Marcus Forston (3:05 PM)
I'd definitely say Vince Wilfork of the Patriots.
Marcus, what kind of feedback have you received from your coaches and former teammates as far as helping you make your decision? Good luck in making your choice, hope you come to play for the Canes!
Marcus Forston (3:06 PM)
They've just told me to go where my heart was at. Whichever head coach that comes down to talk to you is really talking about them, so keep that in mind.
What are your individual goals for next season. Obviously another state title and undefeated season is your team goal.
Marcus Forston (3:07 PM)
My goal is just to improve. The only way I can go from the starting line is down, so I want to improve on the line.
Hey Marcus, I'm sure there isn't one sole factor for why you make your college choice, but will wanting to play with teammates of yours from high school affect your decision?
Marcus Forston (3:08 PM)
No, no matter what, we're always going to be boys. We'll still be cool, checking in on one another, seeing how we're doing.
Neil (Tampa, FL)
Marcus, will the impressive tradition of Miami defensive lineman influence your decision at all.
Marcus Forston (3:09 PM)
That's a really strong team this year, and they put a lot of players in the NFL, so that's an important factor. Any team that puts linemen in the NFL has an advantage.
Chris (Fort Lauderdale)
Marcus as a DT what are your strong points and what parts do you feel you need work on.
Marcus Forston (3:10 PM)
Strong points are coming off the ball extremely fast, for a guy who's 6'3', 300. My weak points are communicating with the rest of the team, which I need to work on.
Marcus Forston (3:11 PM)
I look forward to us going to Southlake Carroll in Texas on Sept. 15. It'll be on ESPN! Thanks!
Buzzmaster (3:11 PM)
Tom will now be here to take your questions!
Tom Luginbill (3:18 PM)
We would like to thank Marcus for his time and now we will get onto some more questions.
Roger (O'Fallon, Mizzou)
Hey Tom, Despite the rankings, nationally and otherwise, if Miami fills a class with the best players in South Florida, could that contend for the #1 class in the nation?
Tom Luginbill (3:20 PM)
Certainly, especially if those players fill needs like at WR. Miami, Florida and FSU don't even need to leave the state if they don't want to. Miami is hot right now and Shannon seems to have the right recipe, but it is early so hang on tight Canes fans.
Sean (Boulder, CO)
Hey Tom, although the Buffs had an awful season last year (2-10), they are in the running for some big time recruits like Darrell Scott and Julio Jones. Is there any chance Dan Hawkins can land one of these guys? Are these guys leaning towards some schools more than others?
Tom Luginbill (3:21 PM)
You are right, they are hot on the trail of many top kids and you must remember, Coach Hawk must be allowed to get his own team in there before we judge too harshly. Don't forget about one of my favorite QB's in this class Braden Hanson who took an unofficial visit there this month.
Tom Luginbill (3:22 PM)
Not sure if they can pull Scott though.
James Omaha, NE
Can you give me a quick breakdown of Nebraskas class and how it looks, I really think Collins Okafor is a sleeper?
Tom Luginbill (3:23 PM)
We love him too, but the QB is the key. It has been the missing piece of the puzzle since Callahan arrived and now they have a difference-maker we think in Gabbert. Now they must get some burners to stretch the field.
Ryan, Tahlequah Ok.
I know it's early but what do you make of OU's early recruitment period?
Tom Luginbill (3:27 PM)
so far -- so great. Seriously though -- great job by OU of rebounding after a so-so recruiting class.
Tom Luginbill (3:28 PM)
Jermie Calhoun is a monster of a back and him and Murray could make a scary pair. OL get little love, but Stephen Good is a mauler in the trenches -- look for him to compete for a tackle spot pretty early.
How do you think Pitt's recruiting class will be this year?
Tom Luginbill (3:32 PM)
Pitt is off to a slow start -- if you compare to since Wannstedt has arrived. They will do well in Western Pa. again -- as they have done. Their two commits are PA guys now. RB Chris Burns is a talented back and an ESPN 150 watch list player.
Rick (Austin, TX)
Tom, the Trojans aren't mentioned in many top 5 lists at this time. I know they usually start really late and finish #1 or #2. Do you see the same thing happening with this class...or will some recruits finally be scared away by the logjam of 5 star recruits at virtually every position?
Tom Luginbill (3:34 PM)
Way to early to be rating classes -- so my advice would be to not pay any attention to any class ratings now. USC is a recruiting machine at this point. Regardless of who is there they still are able to land many of the nation's top prospects.
Tom Luginbill (3:35 PM)
They already have 6 ESPN watch list commits and the 7th we have not evaluated yet. I think what helps them land good players despite have many already on campus is the fact that it is well known that USC pratices are competitive and the best play.
Joel (Richmond, VA)
If you had to take a guess, where do you believe (earlier guest) Marcus Fortson ends up?
Tom Luginbill (3:37 PM)
It seems he still is very early in the process, but at this point you would have to imagine Miami.
What is up with the gators? only 1 commit so far after winning the national championship.
Tom Luginbill (3:39 PM)
Things will pick-up. It matters what they have on signing day. Look for UF to sign a little smaller class this year as opposed to the previous two classes. I suspect they will take no more than 20 prospects and may be taking their time to get the right guys in a smaller class.
mike (long island)
what will the new ncaa legislation regarding text messaging do to coaches who used it as such a vital recruiting tool, such as urban meyer and charlie weis?
Tom Luginbill (3:42 PM)
Some coaches are understandably upset -- texting was a great tool to get in contact with prospects. It will remain to be seen if it sticks - some will fight to get it back. If not though coaches are great at adjusting and they will do so. They recruited before text messaging and will still get it done without it once again.
Brad (Oakland, CA)
Cal - making the leap to premier recruiting program or still a ways to go? 2007?
Tom Luginbill (3:45 PM)
Cal is a serious contender on and off the field in the PAC-10. They are getting much more pub from media outlets nationwide for their play and that helps recruiting. It is still USC as the big dog in that conference followed by UCLA - but Cal is in the mix with and actually near the top of the next level with ASU, Arizona, Washington.
My Florida State Seminoles seem to have major intrest in several top recruits. How good do you see the Seminole class ending up?
Tom Luginbill (3:48 PM)
I talked about OU earlier rebounding well, and FSU is another. Not a typical year for the Noles in recruiting in 07, but so far fast start. The Defense which is always strong has really benefited. FSU is on course to contend again for a highly ranked class.
Do you think Butch Davis will be successful recruiting at UNC?
Tom Luginbill (3:50 PM)
Yes -- i already think he has proven that. This will be telling year, but Bunting and his staff recruited well to UNC and I think Davis and company will have even more success.
Tom Luginbill (3:51 PM)
That is all the time I have for today. Phone is ringing off the hook and still plenty of evals to do. Keep your eyes open for a major announcement on Monday about the ESPN HS All-Star game. Thanks and take care.
