Zac (Columbia, MO)
Wh shouldn't the Raiders give Culpepper half a year to see what hes got and if he looks like the Culpepper of old just forget about Russell. His chances of being a great quarterback are at best 50/50, why not take advantage of this 1yr lease they have on a former pro bowl quarterback that is still in his prime.
Scott Engel (3:03 PM)
Good afternoon everyone! Let's forget about the Pro Bowl or his "prime" - he's trying to save his career. His chances of beinga solid starter are 50/50 and Culpepper will be a fantasy reserve if he starts - he's not the same QB he was a few years ago and he doesn't have a Randy Moss
HP (Anytown, USA)
Hey Scott, Is LJ still a top 3 pick considering that he is holding out, and his O-line is terrible?
Scott Engel (3:05 PM)
The line ws actually looking pretty good in camp under McIntosh went down - I have LJ down to about sixth right now
Chris (DC)
I spent two days at Redskins camp and Jason Campbell and the skins deep passing game looked sensational. Fantasy sleeper or not? Thanks.
Scott Engel (3:06 PM)
I like Campbell, but everything looks better in scrimmages - he'll be a solid fantasy reserve this year
Shaun,Detroit
I know it's 1 Pre-Season game. But how can you not be drooling over the fact the Lions threw for 500 yards last night. Kitna puttingup Manning like number's?
Scott Engel (3:07 PM)
The pass protection still looked questionable when the first unit was on the field - Kitan expectations are way inflated - he'll be erratic when it counts - Manning like? Eli, maybe
Jon (DC)
Calvin Johnson looks like an immediate impact player (after one game). What round should I take a slightly too early stab at him?
Scott Engel (3:08 PM)
I like him in the fifth, earliest. I would like to have him as a No. 2 fantasy WR
Bill (Los Angeles, CA)
Which #3 WRs are worth drafting?
Scott Engel (3:10 PM)
Anthony Gonzalez, Demetrius Williams, Wes Welker, Drew Bennett
Jon (DC)
Still no higher than the 5th in a KEEPER league for Calvin Johnson?
Scott Engel (3:11 PM)
In yearly leagues, fifth round, top 5 ina keeper league, maybe top 3 depending on your needs
KG (Louisville, Ky.)
I was reading some who felt Rudi would get fewer touches (and possibly TDs) this year. With Irons done for the season, do you think Rudi remains a top fantasy RB?
Scott Engel (3:12 PM)
Chris Perry is hurt and Kenny Watson isn't much of a threat - I think the Bengals will now have to lean heavily on Rudi again.
John (NY)
True or False: Thomas Jones splitting time with Leon Johnson will put up better numbers than last year splitting time with Ced Benson......
Scott Engel (3:13 PM)
I think you mean Leon Washington - and Jones won't split - Washington will be a third down guy and Jones will be a great second-round pick this year
tom from philly!
Scott, Do you see Mike Turner getting a couple more carries a game this year, which could lead to a decrease in L.T. unbelievable stats? I mean, he is good trade bate in the future for them, and they have to show what he can do sooner or later. Thanks!
Scott Engel (3:15 PM)
He's a free agent after the season - there's no real trade value there and I don't expect LT's workload to decrease at all - in fact, there is talk he could actually catch more passes
Brian (Cranston,RI)
# 9 pick in a PPR league can i get bush then ronnie on the swing around or am i dreaming?
Scott Engel (3:16 PM)
Bush likely won't fall that far in a keeper league - you will be considering Brown with your first pick if you want him
Matt,MPLS
Which Jones do you like better for my fifth WR, Brandon or Matt? Thanks Scott.
Scott Engel (3:17 PM)
I like Matt even though eh is buried on the dpeth chart right now - I still think hell be that team's best WR
Ed, NY
Hey Scott, I was wondering as of today in what order would you rank Rudi, Westbrook, Henry, Mcgahee, Ronnie Brown, and Bush? Thanks!
Scott Engel (3:19 PM)
Westbrook, Henry, Bush, Rudi, Brown, McGahee -
Jay CT
What do you think of Addai and Colston for Thomas Jones and Calvin Johnson in a keeper league?
Scott Engel (3:20 PM)
I would keep Addai if its a keeper league - Colston is no CJ but he's going to be very good too
Joe (Cal)
I am in an auction league and got LT, Palmer, Steve Smith and Darrell Jackson. Unfortunatly my starting 2nd RB is Anthony Thomas. Should I trade Jackson for Julis Jones
Scott Engel (3:21 PM)
Jones isn't going to give you too much more in terms of peace of mind - keep shopping
steve seattle
What are your thoughts on keeping Addai for an eighth round pick over LDT for a first? We can only keep one per position and if I gave up my first rounder I wouldn?t get a pick til no 18 overall. Based on the rosters in my league I feel pretty confident that I could snag a guy like MJD, Ronnie Brown, Rudi, Bush, Westbrook and McGahee with my first rounder.
Scott Engel (3:23 PM)
When you have an opportunity to keep LT you take it. He's better than any other RB you can get in his place and you should reap the benefits of the keeper format by retaining his rights
kg (boston)
"Colston is no CJ"??? CJ hasn't proven squat and Colston has a better QB, better offense and is more proven.
Scott Engel (3:24 PM)
I didn't say Colston stunk - he's very good - but Johnson is a rare talent above most others - you'll see
tom from philly
What lower lever tier fantasy Tight ends would you take if you skipped all the more dominant ones. Who are some good fantasy TE sleepers.
Scott Engel (3:26 PM)
Daniel Graham, Bo Scaife, Marcedes Lewis, Visanthe Shiancoe
Michele CT
How much better is Vernon Davis going to be then Chris Cooley?
Scott Engel (3:27 PM)
I think Davis is going to be the third-best TE in fantasy this year behind Gates and Gonzalez - heck, I might push him to No. 2 soon
Dan (CT)
I have Bush and Henry as my starters (1/3 point per catch) with D. Williams, B. Jackson, and M. Bell on my bech. Should I be excited about all the upside, or try to acquire a more "sure thing" back for my team?
Scott Engel (3:28 PM)
I think you should relax and have no worries - Henry and Bush will be a great starting duo, Williams and Jackson are fine backups, and Bell is an injury handcuff
Big Murf (Northern VA)
IDP question : Freddie Kieaho is starting in Cato's old spot (WILL LB in Ind) - can he put up 100+ tackles this year?
Scott Engel (3:29 PM)
I don't think he quite has the skills of June yet and you are better off drafting a more experienced inside LB
Ak (NYC)
10th pick in my 12 team round-based keeper league. Do I keep Steven Jackson for a 1st or Willie P for a 3rd??? Arguments can be made for both...
Scott Engel (3:30 PM)
I would take Jackson, because if you don't use your first-rounder on him, someone else will for sure
Riaz, Berea OH
So, your saying draft Davis over proven veterans like Shockey, Heap and Crumpler? Come on!!
Scott Engel (3:31 PM)
Yes, I am - Davis has freakish ability, even more than Shockey, and Hepa and Crumpler are not as talented and won't be as dependable
John (Toronto, Ontario):
Fourth pick, LT, SJax are gone. I am thinking about taking Manning or Addai, even though I hate the Colts. Thoughts?
Scott Engel (3:33 PM)
Forget your allegiances - it doesn't help your fantasy fortunes - heck, I draft Derek Jeter in baseball. If Addai is there I take him for sure
al (DC)
Umm but Scott, if you dont use your third rounder on Parker someone will also use their 1st rounder on him...cant you get better talent to pair with Parker using your first round then Parker in the third?
Scott Engel (3:35 PM)
If you toss Jackson back into the player pool he becomes the No. 1 overall pick - I want to pair somoene with Jackson, not Parker, given the choice
Mike
You play fantasy baseball? Thought you were just a football guy
Scott Engel (3:35 PM)
And fantasy auto racing! Robby Gordon on the road course this week ...
Goose (Chicago)
If John (Ontario) says LT and SJax are gone and he is picking 4th, who is going third? Does the Gore injury scare you at all?
Scott Engel (3:36 PM)
Not really. He'll be ready for the season and has overcome much worse injuries in the past.
Steve (AZ)
Who is going to start at RB for the Packers?
Scott Engel (3:37 PM)
I can really see Noah Herron and Brandon Jackson getting the majority of the work - it's not impossible
Lee, IN
What qbs are worth drafting in the 3rd round in a 10 man league with standard scoring?
Scott Engel (3:39 PM)
Considering you usually start only one, I would begin considering Palmer late in the third - inevitably, someone will take him Brees and Brady too early, and I will gladly take Bulger or McNabb in the fifth
Gus (Rochester, NY)
Any word on Gore fixing his fumbling problems? He left a lot of TDs at the goal line and on the bench last year.
Scott Engel (3:40 PM)
His problems were curbed by the second half of the season. It doesn't concern me
Os (Jersey)
Scott, In a PPR league, is Bush a top 7 RB?
Scott Engel (3:41 PM)
In PPR, I have him about sixth, and I won't laugh at anyone who takes him in the top five
Bill (Chitown)
Fifth pick with 6 points for passing tds and 6 bonus for 300 yard and 100 yard games. I am crazy to think about drafting Peyton and worrying about rb's later? Is Peyton gonna have an off year?
Scott Engel (3:42 PM)
Not crazy at all - Peyton has never had an "off year"
Derek, Tempe
Scott, help me out-I have the 4th pick in a new keeper league. Im not too happy with the LJ holdout and dont think much of Shaun Alexander...Is taking Bush or Addai there sound crazy?
Scott Engel (3:43 PM)
If Addai slips to fourth, which is very possible, you have to take him there - you should be considering Manning, Gore and Addai, in that order
kg (boston)
in a standard league, you have bush about 7th. it's clear you have man crush on him and t jones.
Scott Engel (3:45 PM)
In standard, I have Bush around 10 - yes, I do have a man crush on Jones this year, who is a very underrated second rounder
Paul (DE)
Is taking Parker with the 4th pick too high? It seems he is more proven than Addai or Gore?
Scott Engel (3:46 PM)
He's not as versatile as Gore or Addai.
Tom (Boston, MA)
Scott, I'm really high on A. Peterson. He is emensely talented with a good o-line. Where do you draft him in a 10 team league? I might go as high as late 4th with a good preseason. Thx.
Scott Engel (3:48 PM)
I was able to land him in the sixth round in a recent draft - the Vikes don't have too much around him and won't overwork him yet - I would wait until at least the fifth
Dave (Detroit)
So why is Gore ahead of Addai?
Scott Engel (3:49 PM)
Addai still has to show us he can handle the heavier load - Gore already has
Matt,MPLS
Where are you drafting Alexander right now? Is his foot healed?
Scott Engel (3:51 PM)
There are no more real concerns about his foot, and I have him ranked fifth right now.
Zach, TX
Who has more value on a salary cap team, Brady at $18 or Schaub at $2?
Scott Engel (3:52 PM)
I'd rather have Brady and spend the extar 16 bucks for a regularly efficient QB who will have his best statistical season in 2007
KS (NY)
Who do you prefer - Jacobs, Marion Barber, or Marshawn Lynch?
Scott Engel (3:53 PM)
Jacobs for sure - he's going to be a great value pick - 1,100-plus yards and about 11 TD
Ben (Atlanta)
I can't quite make out who your top 10 RB's are in a ppr league (.5 ppr), could you please list them in order.
Scott Engel (3:54 PM)
Sure - Tomlinson, Jackson, Gore, Addai, Bush, Westbrook, Parker, Larry Johnson, Alexander, Travis Henry
Travis(WI)
Does Alstott being out make Caddy more valuable? Possibly top 15?
Scott Engel (3:55 PM)
No - they might give goal-line carries to Pittman or Earnest Graham - we will have wait and see
Rashard: Joppatowne
Jamal Lewis have a bad year?
Scott Engel (3:56 PM)
He'll be unreliable, with a few good outings - I wouldn't use him regularly
Scott - MI
Is Roy Williams going to have a better or worse year with CJ around?
Scott Engel (3:57 PM)
I think he will be more dependable - his numbers won't jump too much overall but will be more evenly distributed over the schedule and he will be a more reliable starter
Chris (Philly)
Do you still like Deuce this year as a #2RB or does him numbers suffer as Bush gets more carries? Do you prefer him over Benson?
Scott Engel (3:59 PM)
Payton used them both well last year and is not going to change his approach much - Deuce is more stablished than Benson and i like him better - Bush's improvements won't mean much less work for Deuce
Josh (Dexter, NY)
I haven't heard too much buzz about Reggie Brown. I think he's gonna be a top 10 WR. Any thoughts?
Scott Engel (4:00 PM)
I like him myself as a fine No 2 fantasy WR, but top 10 is too optimistic - he won;t be a No. 1 fantasy WR
lee (ct)
you have manning in a keeper the 4th pick?
Scott Engel (4:00 PM)
If I was drafting in a new keeper league today, Manning would be my third pick
Sam (Tn)
SE- Could you run down your top 10 RB's in a standard league? Is this linked anywhere on ESPN?
Scott Engel (4:02 PM)
My personal top 10 is LT, Jackson, Gore, Addai, Alexander, Larry Johnson, Parker, Westbrook, Henry, Bush
Eric (OH)
Scott, Can you help me out here. I am in a keeper league and i have to decide between DeAngelo Williams and Jerious Norwood. Thanks
Scott Engel (4:03 PM)
I'd keep Williams - I think he ultimately will be able to shoulder a heavier load.
bobby (phx, az)
will edgerrin have a more productive season with the line improvements in arizona
Scott Engel (4:04 PM)
So far, the line hasn't looked a whole lot better, but Whisenhunt is committed to improvement, so I think Edge will be more dependable than last year
PINTO (NYC)
OK--why are people bullish on Maroney, and not on Benson? Arent they very similar? Two guys who split carries last year, both first round picks, both given the keys to the car, both with some injury concerns, and both on teams that like to run. Figure the Bears O to be improved (and based on reports out of training camp, that appears to be the case), then why couldn't we be talking about a 1300-12 year from Benson (OF COURSE, as long as hes healthy)?
Scott Engel (4:05 PM)
I don't think they are similar RBs in style and play in different offenses - I think benson is more ready for a full-time job and will outperform Maroney, although I temper my expectations personally at 1,200 and nine
Blake (Dallas)
Trade Question: I have been offered Rothlisberger and B. Jacobs for Brees. In a 2 QB league, I have Brees and Brady, thin at RB with Mcgahee and J. Lewis, pretty set at WR with Fitz, Housh, and S. Moss. Thoughts?
Scott Engel (4:10 PM)
In a two-QB league, Brees can be considered a late first-round pick. I would want a more established RB, as much as I like Jacobs. Thanks a lot everyone!
