Matt (Mountain View, CA)
Hey Scott, thanks for your analysis, I look forward to reading your columns every week. In a 10-team league, I have Lamont Jordan, Joseph Addai, Adrian Peterson (Min), Thomas Jones, and Clinton Portis (2 RBs and a RB/WR can start each week). I'm shaky at QB however, with Kitna and Warner. In a league that rewards extra points for TD passes of 40+ or 50+ yards, would an Eli Manning/Michael Bennett for Kitna/Portis deal benefit my team enough to make the trade worth it? Portis' yardage is worrisome, and Kitna has been frustratingly inconsistent; with our league's playoffs weeks 15 and 16, I like Bennett's playoff schedule. Thanks!
Scott Engel (3:02 PM)
Good afternoon everyone! You should not give up Portis because you are not gettinge nough in return, and Bennett is no guarantee to get regular carries and he has been a disappointing injuryr risk in the past - you have enough depth at RB where you don't have to make a trade
David (LA, CA)
How can the Steelers have 4 TDs with no rushing TDs? Will Parker ever score? Is this something I should worry about or will the TDs just come in time with all the rushing yards?
Scott Engel (3:03 PM)
The Broncos were focused on the run, and Pittsburgh was also playing from behind - I can give you no reassurances on TDs with Parker - they will only be occasional
Is ronnie brown really done for the year? He walked off on his own and said he could put his full weight on it after the game? Is this true or just a little premature speculation?
Scott Engel (3:04 PM)
It has been confirmed - unfortunately, you have to now just go after Jesse Chatman - trade for the top waiver pick if you can
Hi Scott, I am in a dilemma. I have Welker and Cotchery both on bye the same week and want to pick up Evans right now. Would you recommend dropping Bulger for him? My other qb's are Warner, Brees, and Schaub? Thanks!!
Scott Engel (3:05 PM)
You don't need four QBs - I would drop Bulger, yes
Jamaal (Washington Twp, NJ)
Will Chatman be the guy or is Cobb going to steal touches?
Scott Engel (3:06 PM)
Chatman should be the guy initially, although Lorenzo Booker could get a look later in the year
Do you think Welker is a trade high canidate or should I hold on to him?
Scott Engel (3:07 PM)
Keep him - he is Bradys best possession guy and the running game is unreliable
Jim (Phx, AZ)
Thx for taking the question. Packers or Redskins D/ST for the rest of the season?
Scott Engel (3:08 PM)
If I had both, I would keep both and rotate them based on matchups
Would you deal Chad Johnson for Adrian Peterson?
Scott Engel (3:09 PM)
I would if I could, but that may not sway Peterson's owner to give him up
Owen (Naperville, IL)
Someone offered me Wayne and Rivers for Palmer. I have Garrard as my backup and Colston/Holt are really struggling for me. Do I bite?
Scott Engel (3:10 PM)
I would do it - you can win with Gararrd and you get the upgrade with Wayne
Scott: Love the all-business chats. I've been offered Cutler + Parker for J. Campbell + LT. Is that enough, or should I ask for more? We start 2 QB's, so Cutler would be a direct swap-in for Campbell behind Eli...
Scott Engel (3:11 PM)
Cutler and Campbell is basically a wash in any system, so you're not getting enough
I started Pitt D over Giants D this week because of you. Thanks :( Since that hurt me badly at least answer me this: Who wins this trade: S Jackson, Steve Smith, Greg Olsen for Gates Maroney and S. Holmes.
Scott Engel (3:12 PM)
Don't blame me - blame the Steelers! If Jackson comes back soon, that side wins, but it's even for now
Mike (Flint, MI)
Now that I?ve lost Ronnie Brown for the year, is Hines Ward too much to give up for Kevin Jones? Frank Gore, Lendale White, and Earnest Graham are my remaining RBs; and Driver, Engram, Cotchery, Curry, and Evans are my other WRs. Start 2 RBs and WRs each, plus flex. Thanks!
Scott Engel (3:13 PM)
Good to get Jones now before his value rises more - you have the depth to risk it
How much value would you expect for L.Jordan right now?
Scott Engel (3:15 PM)
It really depends on what team in your league is desperate enough for an RB and what he will give up - I would not expect a top 15 WR or top 8 QB
Is it time to give up on Maroney? He's supposed to be my #1 back, but so far this year, he's been outperformed by the likes of D. Wynn and L. Jordan.
Scott Engel (3:16 PM)
I gave up on Maroney weeks ago - even when healthy hes not ready for stardom yet
Dave (King of Prussia, PA)
What are we looking at with Priest Holmes? Some sources out there are talking about a rb controversy.
Scott Engel (3:17 PM)
I wouldnt expect a controvesry at all - at best, he'll continue to get a few carries to give LJ a breather
JAMIE NO.BRUNSWICK NJ
WHY IS NOBODY ASKING IF HARRISON IS PLAYING TONIGHT. COME ON PEOPLE GET WITH IT. PLEASE ADVISE ME. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Scott Engel (3:18 PM)
He has been listed as a game-time decision and that has been since Saturday
Cary-(Dunns Corner, Nebraska)
Is Peyton Manning too much to give up for Larry Johnson? TD passes are worth 6 points!
Scott Engel (3:19 PM)
I would want a more produtive back in terms of scores to surrender Manning
What's the story with Schaub's injury? Should I pick up Griese or Brees instead?
Scott Engel (3:20 PM)
No further reports yet on Schaub. If he misses any time, I would add Griese
Scott, tell jaime that we all did our own research and realized it will be a GTD, i.e. they will see how he look sin pre-game warm-ups and decided not to waste everyone's time. That said, You mentioned trading the number one waiver rights...what woul dbe an approriate value if next year draft picks can be moved, say a 5th rounder? Or is that way too high? My team sucsk so i have teh 1st priority
Scott Engel (3:22 PM)
When I trade waiver picks, it's usually for a fill-in type player, and rarely involves draft choices
Excluding LT and A-Pete, who are your top 5 RBs for the rest of the season? I can't even come up with 5 reliable ones!!!
Scott Engel (3:24 PM)
Ok, top 7 then - 1 LT 2 - Addai 3 - Peterson 4 - Parker 5 -LJ 6 - Westbrook 7 - Lynch
David (Alexandria, VA)
Rudi Johnson and Jesse Chatman are both available on the waiver wire this week? I am first on the waiver order. Who should I claim? Thanks.
Scott Engel (3:24 PM)
Chatman - Rudi has an injury that could continue to linger
Is Brian Leonard even worth owning anymore? I have an offer of Warrick Dunn for him.
Scott Engel (3:26 PM)
Dunn is pretty useless as well - I would rather have Leonard for maybe the occasional score
Greg (Atlantic Ocean)
Scott, is Turner a must grab if I'm already rebuilding for next year? I'm in a one keeper only league.
Scott Engel (3:28 PM)
Only if he will be the one you keep for sure over anyone else - you can't do much "rebuilding" with one keeper
Mark: Dallas TX
Scott, What do you think about in season rule changes? I'm trying to get my commish to change our waiver rules. Waivers are best on reverse order of the standing with no rollover to the end of the list if you get your pick. So, the guy in last place will get his first pick every single time and the guy with the best record pretty much has no chance to get anyone because 11 guys will always have higher priority.
Scott Engel (3:30 PM)
I don't like in-season rule changes and I think it is unfair to not go through the waiver order at all - that gives too much of an advantage ot the last place team even over the one with the second-worst record
I have an 8 point lead going into tonight with Peyton left to play and my opponent has Wayne. Should I be worried? Thanks.
Scott Engel (3:31 PM)
No - when Peyton throws to Wayne, you get points, too, and eh gets no points when Peyton throws elsewhere
MAV (adrain peterson)
would u keep starting adrian peterson even though he shares carries ??
Scott Engel (3:32 PM)
He has shared carries all year long and his totals have been great - nothing has changed
Neil (Athens, GA)
I currently have Adrian Peterson (MIN), Rudi Johnson, Kevin Jones, Kenny Watson, and Travis Henry. Do you think I should drop any of those guys or possibly Javon Walker for Jesse Chatman? Also Should I try to pick up Bulger or Griese off waivers? Hasselbeck is my only QB.
Scott Engel (3:33 PM)
You need a QB for this week with Hasselbeck off, so drop Walker
Jon Fresno CA
I have been offered a trade..I trade Tom Brady and Deion Branch for Peyton Manning and Chad Johnson....What do you think????
Scott Engel (3:33 PM)
I think you should not trade Tom Brady if you have him
Keegan (Sioux Falls, SD)
Chris Henry (TEN) played in his first game this year and did decently well for being the backup. Does he have a chance to takeover for LenDale?
Scott Engel (3:34 PM)
The Titans have too much hope and faith invested in White - henry has a chance to share carries with him over Chris Brown
The other Scott Engel (NY,NY)
Would you trade McNabb for Fitz if you had Anderson and Eli?
Scott Engel (3:35 PM)
Sure - you can trust Anderson
Joe (San Diego)
When are you looking to pick up Chris Henry (WR)?
Scott Engel (3:36 PM)
I believe he is eligible to come back by Week 10 - I would get him this week for the early jump if you have the room. though
Do you see Brandon Jackson worth picking up? Will he be Green Bay's Starter?
Scott Engel (3:37 PM)
No - Morency and Wynn should get most of the touches and that will continue to be a timeshare
I proposed this trade. Trade away Selvin Young to T.henry owner for A.Gates? A reach?
Scott Engel (3:38 PM)
I don't see that getting accepted by the other owner and it would be swiftly vetoed
I have Cooley, Olsen and V Davis at TE. Are the latter two reliable enough if I shop around the more marketable Cooley?
Scott Engel (3:39 PM)
I would keep Cooley and shop Davis for his potential
T Bone (Lexington, KY)
I was lucky enough to pick up Chatman this morning so I now have T. Jones, K. Jones, Barber, Chatman, Leonard and S. Jackson. I need a QB to fill in for Romo this week. Is Leonard the best option to drop and who would be a better pick up? Griese, Campbell, Edwards, Shaub (if he plays)?
Scott Engel (3:40 PM)
I would add Griese - wonder hwo you got Chatman before the Week 7 games are over - Hmmm
What would be good return for Adrian peterson?
Scott Engel (3:42 PM)
I wouldnt want to trade him, but you could really go after anyone except for Brady, Randy Moss or LT
Steve (Long Island, NY)
Scott, are you saying that leagues that allow free pickups at all times are bad and that everyone should go through waivers on Monday Night for fairness?
Scott Engel (3:42 PM)
It's not something I personally prefer and I rarely see it used
Scott-LEAGUE CONTROVERSY-an owner left 2 players on bye in the starting lineup. Another owner called that owner and reminded him 5 before kickoff. The lazy owner ended up winning and now his opponent is mad that a call was made. He says every owner should just be accountable for himself. How do you see this issue?
Scott Engel (3:44 PM)
He is right - no one should need to give someone a reminder, and next time someone fields a bye-marerd lineup, they should get a warning - they do it three times, boot them out
Do you think something is wrong with Alexander, or will he get back on track after the bye?
Scott Engel (3:45 PM)
I cannot reccomend starting him with any confidence, especially now that he has lost Mack Strong
I always draft well, but seem to get burned on trades. how do you value players at this point in the season? For example, what type of players should be targeted for someone like Willie Parker or any top RB? top WR and an add on?
Scott Engel (3:46 PM)
Its really all about targeting an owner rather than certain players - find a team with obvious needs at Rb and good WR depth, and thn look at his top WRs and make an offer
In my league, waiver wire pickups can not take place until Tuesday morning...at 9am. And then it's a mad dash...no waiver wire order or anything!! I don't think thats fair for us late sleepers. What do you think?
Scott Engel (3:48 PM)
I would agree - it should only be first come, first serve after the initial waiver run - what if my electric went out or I had a doctors appt? No good, I believe
Trade high on Earnest Graham or with the terrible RB play this year, is he actually a good option for the rest of the season?
Scott Engel (3:49 PM)
One good game doesn't make him "sell high" just yet. I don't trust him to keep it up, so get what you can
Bryon (Long Beach, CA)
Why do you guys never give an answer on who to target in trades?? We know you have to find an owner who has something you want, blah, blah.... yes, but give me some names that are comparable in value for Willie Parker!
Scott Engel (3:52 PM)
Because you can't just go after a guy YOU want if the owner of say, Terrell Owens has no need for a RB - I DO give youa range to target - say top 5 WR or top 10 -
Captain Ron (FL)
Should I pick up Watson, or will Rudi return?
Scott Engel (3:53 PM)
I would add Watson - hamstring problems can tend to linger
I was looking to upgrade from McNabb at QB. Could you name some QB?s that would give me a clear upgrade the rest of the way?
Scott Engel (3:55 PM)
Any top 10 QB would be an upgrade over McNabb at this point - maybe even top 12 - I don't regard him as a regular starter anymore and will release my list of all current ranks tom'w - don't expect to see McNabb in the top 10,
Return of Steven Jackson this weekend? Or are they going to wait til after the bye?
Scott Engel (3:55 PM)
That's still very much an uncertainty - I would not count on it at all
What's Kevin Jones value going foward? Solid #2 RB the rest of the year?
Scott Engel (3:56 PM)
Definitely - he can catch passes and is great in the red zone
Dan (San Jose)
I am in a SUPER deep league, and Chatman for some reason is available on the wire. How much of my free agency salary cap do I spend on him? The cap is $40. My RB's are Gore, Henry and Portis.
Scott Engel (3:58 PM)
I would expect about 15 dollatrs - you do not want to go overboard more thna that since you already have 3 other guys
I need to pick up a bye week WR and I can choose between Roydell Williams, Arnaz Battle, and Darrell Jackson. Any suggestions?
Scott Engel (3:59 PM)
I am not sold on Roydell and Battle has scored in two straight games
Chris (Orlando, FL)
Someone just dropped Santana Moss, is he worth a pickup right now? Should I drop Ladell Betts for him?
Scott Engel (4:00 PM)
I would not pick up the disappointing Moss, but feel free to drop Betts for another player
Chris (Orlando, FL)
Griese or Garcia for the rest of the year? I'm in a 2 QB league.
Scott Engel (4:01 PM)
I would go with garcia - I expect less turnovers from him. Thanks a lot everyone!
