AJ Mass (10:58 AM)
Good morning all! We're ready to give you fantasy football advice from the big chair. So shout, shout, let it all out... let's have a fun hour, shall we?
Bill (Sacramento, CA)
AJ, your my last hope to make the right choice! How many carries will Keith see going forward? Is he worth a pickup or what?
AJ Mass (10:59 AM)
I am no Obi-Wan Kenobi, good sir... but I see Keith getting a good share of carries 10-15 a game for the next few, and then even more as the Colts rest Addai a bit once they sit comfortably in playoff position. Definitely worth a roster spot.
Javier (Lodi CA)
Should I give S. Jackson a week to see how he does(good matchup vs Browns)? Or stick with Thomas Jones(Hello, zero TD's) one more week?
AJ Mass (11:00 AM)
Jackson is in no way ready to come back. He's yet to have any contact in practice and may take the field for a bit as a morale boost, but that's it. You have to go Jones.
dan(Minn)
I know these players are on byes this week but do you now consider MB III an No. 1 RB and do you think Bobby Engram will be a viable option with the return of the Seattle WRs from injury? Thanks
AJ Mass (11:02 AM)
I do not see Barber as a 1. He's a solid 2, but with Jones taking some carries still and the Cowboys far more geared to the pass, he's the worst fantasy back in his division.
AJ Mass (11:02 AM)
Engram will lose value when Branch and Hackett return, but could still be flex-worthy on a given week.
Bryan V (C-Bus, OH)
Need to start one of these guys: Hilliard, Hagan, or Randle-El.
AJ Mass (11:03 AM)
I like Hagan longterm, but Ike is the man.
Lonnie (TX)
Is Cooley a must start even going against the Pats? I have Donlad Lee as backup.
AJ Mass (11:03 AM)
I think Cooley is no longer a must-start. The O-line is ravaged. Cooley has to help block and that means far fewer catches. With Franks still iffy, I go with D. Lee.
Ron (Hoboken NJ)
Who will be throwing to Steve Smith, and should I be concerned?
AJ Mass (11:04 AM)
Carr should be healthy enough to come back and therefore, yes, you should be concerned. If Vinny were back there, at least I know he'd target Smith almost exclusively.
Adam, DC
Hey in my league the #4 team (3-4) who has one of the highest pt totals in the league traded the last place team (1-6) Reggie Bush and Santonio Holmes for Randy Moss. Fair trade?
AJ Mass (11:06 AM)
Why wouldn't you want a top team to give up two starters for one? He can't possibly be keeping as many points in RB as he's gaining in WR.
Mike (ATL)
A.J., Keeping with your thoughts on MB3, would you trade MB3 and Brees fro Lynch. To much to give up?
AJ Mass (11:07 AM)
It is definitely a bit much, especially since it seems Brees has figured out a lot of his early season problems.
James, IL
Better WR pickup: Walter, Stokely, Hilliard or Toomer?
AJ Mass (11:08 AM)
Hilliard is probably the best bet. Toomer second. Stokely third.
Tim (Rochester, NY)
Will I ever reap the benefits of drafting Jerious Norwood? Monday Night he breaks a carry 60+ yards for a touchdown and then gets only 2 more carries the rest of the game. How much longer before he is the primary back in Atlanta?
AJ Mass (11:09 AM)
It's Atlanta and this is a lost season. Eventually, I think Petrino has to just bite the bullet and let Norwood sink or swim. If he doesn't make the switch over the bye week, though, I don't think he does at all.
Cody (SoCal)
Dilemma at QB....D Anderson (at STL) or Eli (vs MIA)????
AJ Mass (11:10 AM)
If the game were in America, I'd go Eli. But I don't like the game being in England and the whole travel overseas, time zone, alien environment thing scares me.
Jim, OH
Arnaz Battle v. Shaun McDonald, both this week and long term?
AJ Mass (11:12 AM)
I like Arnaz. Wish he had a better QB, If he were on the Colts, he'd be a star. McDonald has far too many WRs competing with him for the passes. Long term I think Battle is better. Until Smith either heals or is replaced though, Battle is a tough guy to start.
Rod Fayetteville AR
Why are the cowboys stupid with MB3 ?? They are clearly better and harder to defend when MB3 is in there. Splitting is for close to equal talents, this one isn't close.
AJ Mass (11:14 AM)
If you see the same thing over and over again, it becomes easier and easier to stop. Jones, even if he doesn't get a lot of yards, forces the defense to play differently and not adjust to Barber's style. If MB3 played every down, his numbers would actually likely decrease.
Nick (Greenwich, CT)
Aj! Good Morning Man! Listen..I'm a disappointed Maroney owner! Will the Pats try to establish the run this week against Washington?
AJ Mass (11:15 AM)
The Pats will take whatever Washington gives them. It's not so much a Patriots plan... that is what makes them so good. They see what the defense wants to stop and then they do something else.
Ken (SC)
Bye week fill in at WR: Evans, Stallworth, Curry or R. Brown?
AJ Mass (11:17 AM)
I'm going to go with Lee Evans. Not a popular pick, but now that Edwards is "the man" in Buffalo, I think he relaxes a bit - plus he's seen the Jets defense before and won't be surprised by what they throw at him.
Andy (Charlotte, NC)
AJ, is Wes Welker a sell high candidate? I'm concerned that the schedule for NE gets tougher and Watson will steal links when healthy. Who do you think I could get for him?
AJ Mass (11:18 AM)
His numbers are huge and if you have a hole to fill elsewhere, you can probably make a deal... but I don't think his numbers drop. He runs routes that you cannot defend - if you take Moss out, he's open. If you try and take him out, they run. They're just too good for him to not get decent numbers.
Nathan Charlotte, NC
Should I trade Chris Chambers or Hines Ward for Jesse Chatman?
AJ Mass (11:20 AM)
Hold your horses folks. Miami is bad. B A D. Ronnie Brown was doing it with mirrors and Chatman is no Ronnie Brown. He's a decent back and may get 60-80 yards a game - but he's not worth a #1 WR. Not yet anyway.
Eric (Ohio)
Farve or McNabb...who do you like better this week?
AJ Mass (11:21 AM)
I like McNabb. Teams play well at home on MNF. All else equal, I'd avoid the Monday road guy - even if his name is Brett. Plus Minny is worst in league vs, pass.
Tom (So Cal )
AJ, NYG or Phily Def/St? I've seen several different rankings that have both higher than the other.
AJ Mass (11:23 AM)
It's because of the uncertainty of the effect that a transatlantic flight will have on the players. I think Giants are still a better option - but if Jackson goes for Minny, then all the Eagles have to worry about is AP. That's why it is a close call.
Jeff (NY)
AJ - Love the knowledge. Scoring-Only league and need two of three: Wayne, Driver & Stallworth. Thanks
AJ Mass (11:25 AM)
Scoring only is such a crapshoot. You can have a guy who catches 11 for 200 yards and get zero points, while some lineman catches 1 ball and scores? I think you sit Stallworth because you're dealing with so many other guys who might score instead.
Devin Hester (DA BEARS)
YO AJ Would you take a chance on me over Curry or Chambers this week? I got those fools! Im scoring a Touch this week yes?!
AJ Mass (11:27 AM)
Why not? In addition to the fact you might return one should they be foolish enough to kick to you, you've got Chambers in a new environment - adjustment to a new QB can take time. Plus I do not remember the last time I heard the phrase "another excellent throw by Culpepper".
Tim (Rochester, NY)
AJ, Loving your answers! When are you getting your own Podcast/Daily Show, or do you have one that I just don't know about!? If you are looking for a co-host, I am available!
AJ Mass (11:28 AM)
Are you reading this, oh great podcast schedulers? I'm also available for bar mitzvahs and weddings.
Ben Watson (PATS)
I'm trying the Plaxico Burress plan....not practice all week but show up for game time and score a touchdown. You buying it?
AJ Mass (11:29 AM)
Not this week. I think you're a bit too hurt to depend on. Plus that Brady - Brady connection makes so many puns available to a sports guy...
dan (irvine, ca)
Who should be taking the last spot on my bench? Pure speculation...DJ Hackett, Priest Holmes, Chris Henry, Fargas, Peterson (CHI).
AJ Mass (11:30 AM)
I'd look to either Hackett or possibly AP2. Benson is still the guy, but I do not fathom why. If I were coaching the Bears, I'd give the ball to Adrian.
Craig (PA)
Why did Ronnie Brown have to go and get hurt, now who should i start at RB, Graham, Jordan, or Chatman?
AJ Mass (11:31 AM)
Because Ronnie Brown told me he wants Craig from PA to lose. I'd go with Jordan this week, because I am not as mean as Ronnie Brown.
Tim(LA, CA)
Please help-should a league veto a trade of LJ for A. Green and Galloway? Both teams are 3-4. thanks
AJ Mass (11:34 AM)
Would you veto a deal of LT for Benson and Housh? What about Alexander for Benson and Housh? What about LT for Green and Galoway? Let owners own their teams and decide for themselves if they think a deal will be fair in the future.
Rob (Miami, FL)
Which guy should I target? I am shopping Kevin Jones because I have him as my backup RB and I'm looking for a WR. Should I go after Lee Evans or Marques Colston?
AJ Mass (11:35 AM)
I'd rather have Colston than Evans, but I think you can do a lot better for Jones if you find the right owner. Unless you're desperate I'd keep KJ - his value should increase over the next few weeks.
Andy (Cambridge, MA)
Trade Shaun Alexander and Chris Chambers to get Gore? Alexander is killing me!
AJ Mass (11:36 AM)
And Gore won't be? I might not make the deal straight up, let alone add Chambers to the mix.
Joe NY
Do you buy that C. Brown will still split carries with Lendale if healthy, or after his impressive game will C. Henry (rb) have a a fantasy worthy role moving forward? Is he worth a pickup?
AJ Mass (11:38 AM)
I am hoping that Chris Brown (aka - Fantasy Kryptonite) finally dies a slow and painful death. Fisher should give the job to White outright, using Henry to spell him now and again. In a keeper league, he's worthy of a pickup. For the rest of this year - not so sure.
Brian (Indy)
AJ, I'm extremely thin at WR, where I have Chad Johnson and very little else. Would you deal him to get two out of Driver, Evans or Welker?
AJ Mass (11:39 AM)
If you can turn 85 into Driver and Welker, you're a far better man than I.
Not a DICTATOR (ESPN FFL)
I couldn't agree with you more about letting owners decide on their own if a trade is good for them or not, but this one is so one sided, I must be missing something. Yours thoughts, please, on this trade: team A sends V Young, D Mason and N Burleson and recieves T Brady, Plaxico and L Coles! Tell me I'm missing something, these guys cannot be this blatant! Thanks
AJ Mass (11:41 AM)
This one smells very rotten. Hard to see an upside here. Certainly you'd have to askl the "getting Vince Young" side what he possibly stands to gain from the deal. I'm willing to buy a whole lot of things, but I can't see how he'd defend this.
SG - Columbus, OH
So Romo is on a bye and I need a 1 week QB start. Pennington, Culpepper, someone from Houston, Lemon? Thoughts? Sleepers?
AJ Mass (11:43 AM)
Lemon is a possibiity, but Edwards, Holcomb and Vinny are sleepers. I realize it's a risk since two of them might not even play, but that's what a sleeper is right?
Geoffrey (Nashville,TN)
Show some TN Love. In keeper league, do I keep Ronnie Brown on the bench, or drop him for someone else. Thanks
AJ Mass (11:44 AM)
You'll probably need to stash him for next year too. It's a 9 month recovery at best - and that's just to play - not play well.
John (NYC)
Any status update on MOJO? Does the knee injury make Fred Taylor a better play?
AJ Mass (11:45 AM)
He's not practicing, but says he's good. With Gray at QB, I expect both Taylor and MJD to get 20 carries, so I wouldn't worry about starting either guy.
Mike (Happy Valley, Pa)
Help me out AJ, if you had to play K Jones or Portis this week, who would you choose and why?
AJ Mass (11:45 AM)
KJ. Portis has no line and is facing Pats.
Mark, Vegas
Have good depth at both RB and WR, but drop Davenport for Stokley?? Thx
AJ Mass (11:47 AM)
Absolutely. You can't in good conscience start Najeh except in emrgency, Stokely is thisclose to being a WR1.
AJ Mass (11:47 AM)
It's time for America's favorite game --- LIGHTNING ROUND!!!
Tim (North Carolina)
Choose one! D. Ward, Jesse Chatman or D. Rhodes this week?
AJ Mass (11:48 AM)
Chatman. Ward might not play and Rhodes has not yet had any time.
Robert (kentucky)
Driver or calvin johnson this week
AJ Mass (11:48 AM)
I'd go Driver.
Kein-NYC
Anderson or PManning?
AJ Mass (11:49 AM)
I think I go Anderson in a vacuum, but personally, I can't sit Peyton if I own him.
Jack (AZ)
LenDale or MJD this week?
AJ Mass (11:49 AM)
MJD
Carl ( Lauderdale )
Heath Miller and Jennings enough to get Gates?
AJ Mass (11:49 AM)
Not sure it's worth it, but probably.
joe (grand rapids, mi)
Jacobs & Gonzo for APete? fair??
AJ Mass (11:50 AM)
Fair. The injury risk to Jacobs is what makes it so, though. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it.
Dan (Detroit)
Toomer, Ike or STokley this week and long term?
AJ Mass (11:50 AM)
Ike on both counts.
Chris (NYC)
Portis or Kenny Watson?
AJ Mass (11:51 AM)
Got to go Kenny this week.
Mike (Miami)
Anderson or Big Ben?
AJ Mass (11:51 AM)
Ijust said I might go Anderson over Peyton and you question this?
scott,ny
Fred taylor or Cedric Benson?
AJ Mass (11:51 AM)
Taylor
Charlie (Birmingham)
Stecker or Thomas as Bush back-up?
AJ Mass (11:52 AM)
Looks like Stecker is not going to get the call if Bush goes down. Pierre is the one to stash.
Free Agent Vulture
Too early to grab Chris Henry or Terry Glenn?
AJ Mass (11:52 AM)
I'd rather be too early and have them if I want them than too late and watch someone else reap the benefits, no?
MARK (NYC)
A.Green going forward?
AJ Mass (11:53 AM)
No, A. Green going backwards. Not impressed - especially not if Schaub's injury sits him for any length of time.
Dan (MN)
Need a quick decision. Give up Keith and Colston for Winslow and Engram?
AJ Mass (11:53 AM)
If you're good at RB, I can see that deal.
Nick D (Philadelphia)
Welker, S Smith. coles. Start 2
AJ Mass (11:54 AM)
I sit all Jets at home while Chad plays.
Emil (ME)
ugly choice, B leonard or Morency. PPR
AJ Mass (11:54 AM)
Leonard. Jackson won't play much.
Jack (Pittsburgh)
Should I deal Cooley for Brandon Jacobs and snatch Donald Lee off waivers? All I need is yes or no, AJ! Help me, brother!
AJ Mass (11:55 AM)
Without blinking. Yes.
Joe (NYC)
D.Foster or A.Green?
AJ Mass (11:55 AM)
Foster is hurting (toe) Green wins (nose)
Matt (NJ)
MJD, Lamont, or Watson. Choose 1 to start with Parker in PPR league
AJ Mass (11:56 AM)
I'd go Watson 1, MJD 2
Brent (Minneapolis)
Trade Help!!!! Who would you rather have the rest of the year Alexander, Jacobs or Bush?
AJ Mass (11:56 AM)
Bush 1 Jacobs 2
Denny (SUNNY FL)
Kitna or Griese?
AJ Mass (11:56 AM)
Griese.
Chace
Cooley for Brandon Jacobs? Who would trade Jacobs for a TE? AJ, we should join that league next year.
AJ Mass (11:57 AM)
I agree Chace. Time for one more....
Chris (MI)
No Joke Chace...can't get real questions answered like...Pick 2 for flex: Holt, Welker, H.Miller, Winslow
AJ Mass (11:58 AM)
Assuming Holt is Glenn Holt --- Welker 1 Kw2 Miller 3
AJ Mass (11:59 AM)
That's it for today folks... Thanks for the Qs. Tristan Cockroft will be here at 3 pm to answer some more. Be there! Come on, I'm talking to you... come on.
