Nate (11:00 AM)
Hey guys and gals. What's the record for fantasy football ties in a season? Because I picked up my second last night. I'm ornery this morning. On to the questions.
Rob (NY)
Nate, Is Ryan Grant worth a shot? I have Gore hurting, Henry hurting and S. Young to fill a spot next week and am not sure who will play. What do you think? Thanks
Nate (11:03 AM)
Any starting running back has some value, and it looks like Grant will start next week. But I don't think he's especially good. That was a very bad run defense he was facing. Wait for more news on your injuries.
Alex (Lebanon, VA)
I hate a tie too, i think i would almost rather lose...best D to use this week with the Bears on a bye this week, Houston, Cincy, Oakland, San Fran, Atlanta or Denver?
Nate (11:04 AM)
Me too, but this was against the TMR, so I'd rather tie. I like Houston best among those defenses.
Jake (VA Beach)
Our league had a tie WITH fractional scoring!!! How about that? Would you trade Larry J for Hines Ward and Bush in a keeper league?
Nate (11:05 AM)
That happened to me in a 14-team league with fractional scoring and 11 active roster spots once. Crazy. I would probably not do that deal.
Dan (Portland)
The 1st place team has traded Julius Jones and E Graham to the last place team for his best player MB3. Does that call for a veto?
Nate (11:07 AM)
Not even close to veto worthy, though I'd rather be on the MB3 side of the deal, obviously.
Marc (Pompton Lakes, NJ)
Hey Nate just a quick comment. With Selvin Young's performance last night, should be a reminder why it is important to handcuff. Of course this is one Happy Selvin Young/Travis Henry owner, who happened to win by 6pts last night. Also, is Travis Henry going to be suspended or will he fight it out in the courts..
Nate (11:08 AM)
Well, sure. But what about the people that drafted Mike Bell as a handcuff? Or what about the people that wasted a handcuff on Michael Bennett, or Michael Turner, or DeDe Dorsey. All depends on perspective, but of course, handcuffing has it's place in fantasy.
Jason (Chicago)
You wouldn't have ties if ESPN used decimal scoring instead of rounding down.
Nate (11:10 AM)
ESPN offers decimal scoring, it's just not in the default setup.
Jason (Joliet, IL)
Nate, would you trade Santonio Holmes for Clinton Portis in a PPR league? I have R Moss, Chad Johnson, and Holt but am hurting at RB. I have Gore, Lendale White, Lamont Jordan, and Norwood. What do you think? Thanks!
Nate (11:10 AM)
I would do that deal. You definitely need an upgrade at RB.
Tom (LV)
So what is Young's value going forward if Henry is suspended? He looked good, not great. I would assume top 15-20 RB.
Nate (11:12 AM)
That sounds about right. The goal-line looks haven't consistently been there.
Mitch ( MN )
Do you think andre johnson will finaly play this week? If so , where would you rank him?
Nate (11:13 AM)
I do not think he'll play this week. When he returns, I'll probably err on the side of caution and have him outside the top 20.
Rebecca (STL)
Ornery on the podcast too? I might look forward to the distraction of listening to the podcast while at work. I've got Rivers and Schaub in an 18-team league. Schaub has been terrible recently. What do you think of relying on Rivers? I don't have much trade value and Holcomb, Gray, and Losman are the only QBs available. Thanks!
Nate (11:14 AM)
Yep. There, too. I wouldn't want to rely on Rivers, but in a deep league like that you could do a lot worse. Hope Schaub is healthy in time for your playoffs.
Malik (Tucson, AZ)
Nate, it's kind of funny to read your chats. Since listening to your podcast regularly, I can hear your voice in my head when I read your responses! Following his performance on Sunday, do you believe Reggie Brown is about to turn it around in Philly?
Nate (11:15 AM)
See, EVERYONE should download and listen to the podcast. I used to be a big Reggie Brown fan, but I'm sick of McNabb's wishy-washy-ness when it comes to who he throws too. So in short, no, I'm not convinced this is a turnaround for Brown.
Cody Philly
Nate, would you trade Brady for LT, with the idea of Brady not playing in the playoffs
Nate (11:18 AM)
No. I don't believe the Pats will sit Brady down before Week 17, and probably not even then.
CJ (Michigan)
Ugh!! I'm having more malfunctions than Johnny 5 in Short Circuit!! Should I trade away Big Ben, Alexander & Jamal Lewis for SJax & Romo??
Nate Ravitz (11:19 AM)
There's a winner. I love Johnny 5. I would not make that deal with the latest news on Jackson.
Ryan (NYC)
Hey Nasty Nate, and I mean that in a good way. Should I trade A Peterson before his schedule gets too tough to handle? Thanks
Nate Ravitz (11:20 AM)
It's pretty tough right now, with the Chargers this week and Packers next week. So if you're going to do it, I wouldn't wait.
Roscoe (Peoria, IL)
Nate, I really need this one quick, supposed to be working. Which side would you rather have Roethlisberger, A. Peterson, Fitzgerald or Brady, Lamont Jordan, Bernard Berrian? Not a ppr league. Thanks a ton for these chats and your insight.
Nate Ravitz (11:20 AM)
I'd rather have the former, in spite of Brady's presence.
Jason (Boston)
Even with the ties, how is your fantasy team looking, Nate? And who is your most productive waiver wire pickup this season?
Nate Ravitz (11:22 AM)
Truth be told, this has been a very tough season for me. That particular team is 2-4-2 despite having Addai, MB3, Bush, Chad Johnson. Best waiver pickup I made was in a different league, which was Andre Davis.
Rebecca (STL)
WAIT!! What's the latest news on SJax???
Nate Ravitz (11:23 AM)
Disc problem in his back. Looks like he SHOULD be okay after the bye, but it's still a concern.
Lee (MN)
How many times has Berry used the "Ties are like kissing your sister" line today?
Nate Ravitz (11:23 AM)
Fortunately, not yet. I'm stunned.
Nate Ravitz (11:24 AM)
A few people asking basketball questions, but I'm not your guy. Try Eric Karabell tomorrow.
Jake (Chicago)
Nate, TMR says he bet you Anderson over Palmer for the duration. I just traded Anderson for Larry Johnson. I hope it was a good move-- I need another back w/ my SJax problems. He and Brees gave me an 0-4 start! Now 4-4 by taking risks. I've got Stokley, Hackett, and Chris Henry as reserve recievers-- should I trade one for David Patten?
Nate Ravitz (11:25 AM)
That's true, we did make that bet. Dealing Anderson for Jackson was a steal for you, even though I do believe in Anderson now. I'd deal Hackett for Patten.
John (NYC)
Nate, I'm trying to destroy my league like Robocop. Should I *target* Gore in a trade (maybe offering Portis)? I know Gore is a bit hurt, and the Niners offense has been weak. But his schedule down the stretch is tasty. And Portis' has been underperforming, and his schedule is not tasty.
Nate Ravitz (11:26 AM)
I would NOT target Gore for a trade, but if you can get him for Portis that's a deal you do.
Ryan DC
Should our commish be BANNED? My whole league reads the chats...He allowed this trade (he wasnt involved)...Wes Welker and Marshawn Lynch for Peyton, Kevin Jones, and Colston. It was prior to this weekend, but still.
Nate Ravitz (11:27 AM)
I don't have a problem with that deal in the context of before this week. Colston looked done, Peyton hasn't been Peyton, and KJ is still injury prone. Not saying I like the deal, but I don't blame the commish for letting it through.
Jennie (NYC)
What kind of value will K.Watson have going forward. Has he done enough to keep the starting gig when Rudi returns?
Nate Ravitz (11:28 AM)
No, Rudi will get his job back, and Watson won't have much value if he's not starting.
Tom (Orange County CA )
Hey Nate, What should an owner of AP(Minn) expect in return when trading him? Thanks for your help.
Nate Ravitz (11:29 AM)
I think AP is a top 10 player and should return like value.
Michael (Madison)
Sell High on Braylon Edwards now? Or ride him through the rest of the season?
Nate Ravitz (11:29 AM)
I would ride the ride.
lee
no basktball, then why does it say "all" sports?...then, in a 12 team league, would you drop chambers for walker with reports of him coming back earlier?
Nate Ravitz (11:30 AM)
I don't know. I'll talk to the Sports Nation guys about that. I'm a football and baseball chatter.
Dave - Cuse
You wanna know what type of commish should be BANNED? How about Willie Parker for Kevin Faulk. Last place team gives up Parker to a team in the middle of the pack. That's a commish that should lose his job.
Nate Ravitz (11:31 AM)
I agree.
Alex (Philadelphia)
What can we expect from LaMont Jordan going forward? Will he be a decent number 2 again at some point?
Nate Ravitz (11:31 AM)
I don't think so. He's clearly not 100 percent physically with that back problem.
Lee (Dallas, TX)
Nate, Greg Jennings against KC or Calvin Johnson against DEN this weekend as my WR3?
Nate Ravitz (11:32 AM)
I would lean towards Jennings. I was surprised to see how much Favre targeted him.
Brick (brooklyn)
I'm in a tennis simulation league- should I trade Bjorn Borg (circa 1977) for Andre Agassi (circ those eos rebel commercials)?
Nate Ravitz (11:32 AM)
No, you should hold out for the bald Agassi era.
Keith (nj)
Nate, i'm in the market for a house, do you think i should buy now or wait for the market to continue to drop?
Nate Ravitz (11:33 AM)
Buy now!
Brick (brooklyn)
You mentioned Andre Davis being your best pickup- but last week only 1 Catch?!? What is the deal with the texan receiving squad? Is Andre Davis' period of fantasy relevance over?
Nate Ravitz (11:33 AM)
Well the musical chairs at QB in the middle of games isn't helping. I don't think his period of relevance is over just yet.
Josh (UT)
Nate, how much time do you "get" to spend with Matthew Barry each day? Please rank these QB's for the rest of the year: Favre, Cutler, Palmer, or Garcia?
Nate Ravitz (11:35 AM)
Well, typically we eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner together. Meetings, the podcast, sometimes the videocast, yoga, spousal counseling. It's a lot of time, really. As for QBs, I would rank 1. Palmer 2. Favre 3. Cutler 4. Garcia
Brett(Glen Ridge)
Nate, You know your football and baseball, but please stay away from giving housing recommendations. To Keith, the investment banks think that housing prices in the NY metro area will continue to fall for the next 1 to 2 years - wait it out.
Nate Ravitz (11:35 AM)
ESPN does not warrant the truthiness of this statement.
lee
wait?...you didn't answer my question - in a 12 team league, would you drop chambers for walker with reports of him coming back earlier?
Nate Ravitz (11:36 AM)
Sorry. No, I would not make that move.
Brad (Santa Barbara)
Nate the Hate, There was a story out of the AJC talking about Norwood becoming the starter. Any legs to this?
Nate Ravitz (11:37 AM)
No. If you read the actual story, it's just a reporter's opinion.
Tim (Middlebrook, AK)
Is "truthiness" a word? Keeper League: trade SA, TO for Jacobs, Plax?
Nate Ravitz (11:38 AM)
Stephen Colbert says it is. And I would do that deal.
Babz (Aiken, SC)
Gotta say, Nate, the 'sister-kissing' tie with TMR brings up some very interesing connotations. Anyway, I was also surprised with the amount of Jennings targets last night. Does this mean we have seen the end of Driver's days as a #1 in GB? I was thinking about acquiring him until yesterday...
Nate Ravitz (11:39 AM)
Boo! Driver has gone 4 straight games without a TD or even 60 yards, so I do think he's no longer a top 15 fantasy receiver.
Ashley (Atlanta)
Nate!!! Where are your manners. I keep writing to you but you don't answer. What would your mama say about that!!! I've got Greg Olsen at tight end but he's off this week. Should I leave it open or drop him and pick up Alge? I know he's been hurt and I don't want someone else to grab Olsen-- no else out there. Now answer me, please!
Nate Ravitz (11:40 AM)
Thanks for the semi-polite persistence. I'd probably rather leave an open spot than lose Olsen and have no one better than Crumpler the rest of the year.
Zack (Albany, NY)
Wow Ashley sounds hot, can you get me her number? I am a proud owner of one Mr. Tom Brady. Unfortunately my RB situation is less than pretty. I have B. Jacobs, L. Jordan, Kenton Keith and Dominic Rhodes. Kurt Warner is my backup and I LOVE his schedule down the stretch. Should I try and trade brady for a stud RB and WR?
Nate Ravitz (11:41 AM)
Chasing a girl because she "sounds" hot in an online chat is never a good strategy, Zack. Nor is trading the best player in football on the grounds that you have Kurt Warner backing him up.
Dan (DC)
I smell CONSPIRACY....Who is this Rebecca (STL) person?? She has multiple questions answered every single chat. Either she is completely unproductive at work, like myself, or something fishy is going on over at espn. I know you say that you don't look at names, BS!!!! On to my question....whats the deal with Driver and is he going to return to his Tier 1b status anytime soon????
Nate Ravitz (11:42 AM)
I promise you, Ken. I don't look at names. And no, I don't see Driver returning to that status soon.
Andrew: (South Jersey):
Nate, is the Minnesota defense still considered a top team? I'm in a league that gives points for low yardage allowed numbers, and the Vikes haven't gotten me a point in that category since week 2. Hell, take out weeks 1 and 2, and they're averaging single digit scores. Cowboys and 'Skins are on the waiver wire, do I pick one up, and who?
Nate Ravitz (11:43 AM)
I think the Vikes are a top 10 D. But I'd rather have the Skins against the Jets this week.
Brick (brooklyn)
Dan (DC)- there are actually hundreds of Rebeccas in St Louis who join each chat and ask questions. It is a really weird demographic the fantasy guys cornered. Like Halifax.
Nate Ravitz (11:43 AM)
Thanks Brick, but his name is Ken.
Andy (Cambridge, MA)
I just traded Brady away and I'm kicking myself. I got peyton, chad johnson, and westbrook. Will I be regretting this down the line and in the playoffs?
Nate Ravitz (11:45 AM)
See, Zack? You'll end up kicking yourself like poor Andy here. Although if he got all three of those players in return, he's not kicking himself.
Scott (ATL)
Ashley is my girlfriend. Leave her alone! And she's extremely HOT! Come on Nate, last chance for my noon waivers...Lynch and Jacobs r my RBs - with jacobs on a bye do I drop rudi or sjax to pick up: C Henry, Selvin, Grant, Foster/DeAngelo, Norwood, Keith or Freddy T? Please answer...thanks
Nate Ravitz (11:46 AM)
I would not make a drop to add one of those guys unless you desperately need a win this week. If so, I'd drop Rudi for Foster, but his matchup is terrible, so I don't think it's really worth it.
David (LA, CA)
Been trying to get this answered for the last couple weeks: What kind of TE can I get for Derek Anderson in your opinion (6 pt passing TD, PPR league)?
Nate Ravitz (11:47 AM)
I wouldn't deal him for anyone but Gates, Witten, Gonzalez or Winslow.
Rebecca #342 (St. Louis)
Do you typically avoid players who are going up against New England? If so, should I do the same with my Colts players this week?
Nate Ravitz (11:48 AM)
Not necessarily, and definitely not with the Colts.
Dana (Boston)
Is Wynn worth holding onto at this point?
Nate Ravitz (11:49 AM)
Maybe, but I never thought he was very good to begin with.
Jeremy (OH)
Is it possible that D. Driver is a victim of double teams right now? The packers until yesterday had NO running game so teams maybe dropped back in coverage and doubled Driver? Which may be the reason why Jennings and Jones are getting open deep? With those two playing well now won't teams have to respect that and NOT double Driver?
Nate Ravitz (11:50 AM)
So goes the theory, but I didn't see a lot of double teams on Driver last night.
Coty (LA)
You said you don't see an end to Andre Davis' relevance yet, but ~40 pass attempts and only one catch tells me otherwise (unless there was blanket coverage on him the entire day). Patten and Hilliard are available, which one should have better value going forward?
Nate Ravitz (11:51 AM)
Would it change your mind if I told you he had six passes thrown his way? Sometimes it's not your day. I like Hilliard over Patten.
nate (chicago)
we have the same name, or i am lying to you, either way answer my question. would you drop or sit NE'sdef this week against indy? i can pick up balt(pitt), tb (ariz), car (tenn), oak (hou), cinci (buff)
Nate Ravitz (11:52 AM)
I would not drop them. I would sit for Baltimore.
King (Chi)
Ravz, C'mon, this is quick and easy... Cutler (Det) or Brees (Jax) this week? I have to start Colston due to Andre Johnson's injury.
Nate Ravitz (11:53 AM)
I think Brees, but my rankings will be posted tomorrow.
kc oakland
telling Scott (ATL) to take the loss this week by having an empty roster spot?? it's all about the W week to week...
Nate Ravitz (11:53 AM)
I don't see how taking a zero instead of a likely 3 or 4 at the tight end spot is taking a loss.
MegaTron (Detroit)
Will Calvin Johnson live up to expectations this year or should I trade him for someone more reliable? Or do you see a 2nd half surge by CJ?
Nate Ravitz (11:54 AM)
What were the expectations? Mine were about 750-800 yards and 6 TDs, and I think he gets there.
Bill (Philly)
Could be first (and only) trade in our cautious league: Do I trade McGahee, Coles, and Lamont for Ladanian? I also have Gore and E Graham at RB and TO, Andre Johnson, and Curtis at WR...with decent options available for pickup.
Nate Ravitz (11:54 AM)
I would do that deal.
AJ (Houston)
Lighting round! Andre Johnson: does he come back this week or Week 11?
Nate Ravitz (11:55 AM)
Neither?
Amy (det)
Just between you and I, Need a bye week replacement defense: Wash, Jax, or Den this week? Thanks...
Nate Ravitz (11:55 AM)
Wash. Against the Jets.
Paul (Pittsburgh)
Offered Lynch for D Anderson? I would still have Brees and Warner. Your thoughts- I need RBs!
Nate Ravitz (11:56 AM)
Yes, I would deal Anderson for Lynch if I needed an RB
Chris (MI)
Steve Smith or Hines Ward going forward?
Nate Ravitz (11:56 AM)
Smith
John (TX)
Nate the Great! V Davis or B Watson the rest of the year?
Nate Ravitz (11:56 AM)
Watson, and not all that close.
Jeff (Chicago)
L. White or S. Alexander here on out?
Nate Ravitz (11:57 AM)
White.
Ed (LA)
Jacobs for Ocho cinco? Fair trade?
Nate Ravitz (11:57 AM)
Fair
ED(Flagstaff, AZ)
McNabb going forward?
Nate Ravitz (11:58 AM)
Umm.... no?
KC (New Jersey)
Randy Moss and Thomas Jones too much to give up for LT?
Nate Ravitz (11:58 AM)
No.
Nate Ravitz (11:58 AM)
Time for me to go. Check in on the TMR's chat at 3:00 pm ET. He needs the love. See you next week.
