AJ Mass (2:56 PM)
Greetings all - it's time for yet another hour of superspy fun as we chat about fantasy football. Awesome? Of course it is - so let's go, Chuck.
Evan (NY)
Hey AJ, question about vetoing trades. I (5-5 in my league right now, fighting for playoff) proposed a trade to one of the last place teams in my league (out of the playoff race), but it was vetoed and I am pretty heated about it. I traded LJ for W.Dunn...He was willing to take a chance on LJ, and I need Dunn this week...everyone complained, said this trade wasn't helping the other kid at all...is this fair?
AJ Mass (2:58 PM)
I can understand the outrage. After all a last place team isn't exactly going to get any benefit out of having a RB in Week 15 or so, is he? But rather than have a veto rule for cases like this, wouldn't it make more sense to just have a trade deadline?
Jeff (Sacramento, CA)
I have LT, but no decent second running back. I have depth at receiver (Edwards, Evans, Holt, Hilliard, Hackett, Chris Henry). Would you trade Holt for Chester Taylor and Boldin? I'm struggling with this one.
AJ Mass (3:00 PM)
If you're starting 2 RB and getting no production from that second guy, you can afford to do this deal. Between Hackett, Henry and Hilliard, one of them is bound to step up each week and put up Holt-like numbers even if Boldin's hip never recovers.
scott-Honduras
On sportscenter last night, Matthew Berry(i think that's his name) said that Ryan Grant would be a good pick up, but as i look he is only projected to get 7 pts. i know he had a good game this past week. Is this really a good pick up? thanks
AJ Mass (3:02 PM)
At this point, when we're talking pickups, we're assuming you can't just opt to select Addai or Portis or Jacobs off waivers. If Grant is available on waivers, he's a good pickup because he's likely to have some good games here on out... it's not a one week proposition.
Rob: (DC)
Help, I've got Marion Barber and Bengals Chris Henry offered to me for LJ... it's a 4 player no restrictions keeper league, the team offering is out of contention but I have a good shot. I hate the Cowboys and already have Romo.
AJ Mass (3:04 PM)
If you want to win this year, you don't worry so much about next year. Keeping LJ for next season guarantees you nothing. If it makes your team better, you make the deal.
CJ (Michigan)
Off the wall question here: I'm in a 2 QB league and the guy I play this week has serious QB problems. He's starting VY and his other 2 QBs are Huard and Lemon. Should I pick up Beck and Tavaris (the only other starting free agent) and then try to force him into a trade?!?
AJ Mass (3:05 PM)
That's always a good strategy. If someone is asleep at the wheel and doesn't make improvements to his team, you can always offer him a little friendly advice, and try and get him to trade. However, there's no guarantee he'll go along with it, so make sure whoever you're dropping is someone you do not need.
Pink (London)
Who do you like this week: MJD or Edge?
AJ Mass (3:06 PM)
Pretty much a toss up, but I'd go Edge. Cincy is a wreck on defense.
Joe (Philly)
I'm kind of hurting at WR right now. I have Brylon Edwards, Chad Johnson, and Andre Johnson. How do I decide which one to sit each week?
AJ Mass (3:08 PM)
Boo hoo hoo. I have three studs at WR. That's far from hurting, Joe. That's loaded. I start Edwards and 85 until AJ plays a full game. From there, I look to matchups.
Dave - Ludlow, MA
Do you think Gore / Smith are going to turn it around this year? They are killing me! Thanks!!!
AJ Mass (3:09 PM)
When you're at the bottom of a sinkhole, turning around still leaves you miles below the earth.
Ed (J'ville)
What are your thoughts on starting somebody like Cribbs (we get 1 pt / 20 return yards) at flex over Fargas, L. Evans, James Jones or D. Branch?
AJ Mass (3:10 PM)
It's an interesting question, but you have to consider that few teams score as little as Baltimore, meaning not a lot of kickoffs. I'd go with Jones.
Steve (Tampa)
***LOOK AT MINE***LOOK AT MINE***LOOK AT MINE***LOOK AT MINE*** Help! should I start Lynch or K.Jones this week?
AJ Mass (3:11 PM)
I don't like the way Jones was running last week. His injury scares me more than Lynch's. I go Marshawn, Pats or no.
Kevin (Philly)
Can we get some guys that have real problems??? My league would kill for Grant on waivers and those three guys at WR! Need to pick one, Eli vs DET or Schaub vs NO? THANKS!
AJ Mass (3:12 PM)
I'd go Eli. I'm not sure Schaub has his timing down yet and Shockey should help Eli accumulate a lot of yards.
patrick (ny)
aj, could use a 2nd/3rd wr and fielding offers...how would you rank for the rest of the season boldin, jennings, crayton, and cotchery?
AJ Mass (3:14 PM)
Jennings 1. Boldin a qualified 2 - can't ever truly know how an injury does or doesn't heal. Cotchery 3 and Crayton (too erratic) 4
Ben (Baton Rouge, LA)
Do you like Steven Jackson this week? More than say, Chester Taylor?
AJ Mass (3:15 PM)
Personally, I don't like Jackson to have a big day. Niners didn't exactly get torched by Morris last week, and the Rams like to throw a bit. I see 20-70 for SJax and maybe 25-90 for Taylor.
Curt (IA)
Addai owner, Keep Kenton Keith, or drop him for Selvin Young?
AJ Mass (3:17 PM)
I think I go Young. Usually I'd keep the handcuff, but in this case, you're going to be stuck guessing which Colts RB gets more carries down the stretch as Dungy rests Addai. I'd like someone who lives in a different house.
Morgan (State of Denial)
So which sandwich do you prefer? I have a rather strange league with 16 teams and two of each player available. I'm considering dumping AP due to only being able to hold 3 RB's on my bench (Jacobs and Lynch are my other 2). If I can't get S. Jackson, are Ryan Grant or C. Taylor a more stable option than AP?
AJ Mass (3:19 PM)
I just flashed on AP. He's a dangerous RB to be sure - but too valuable to rush back this year. If the Vikes lose the next few, I don't think he plays again until 2008. I'd take Taylor or Grant.
Tim (WY)
What are your thoughts on Ricky? Worth a roster spot?
AJ Mass (3:20 PM)
If you have the room, why not take a chance? I don't expect much, but let him prove us all wrong.
Shawn (SB, CA)
Won't he be stuck with the same ?s with a Denver RB?
AJ Mass (3:22 PM)
It's not the same thing. Once Henry's fate is settled, he'll know once and for all... or perhaps Shanahan will simply annoint Selvin the starter anyway. But he's not as likely to rotate during a game as Dungy is, who will start Addai each game and then pull him - or not - at his whim.
Dan - San Jose
Wanna hear something nauseating? Please pick one...Grossman or Rivers?
AJ Mass (3:23 PM)
Rivers, but I'm not proud.
frank (gloucester point, va)
another nauseating qb quandry... Cutler or Beck?
AJ Mass (3:25 PM)
I'm going to go Beck. Either Eagles blow Dolphins out early and Beck gets to face prevent all second half, or somehow the lack of any game film on Beck confuses the heck out of their D. (Yes, or he sings "Soy un perdidor" and stinks up the joint, but I'd take the gamble.)
dave (canoga park ca)
tight end question should I go with Crumpler or Daniels for this week?
AJ Mass (3:26 PM)
Daniels. Bucs defense will hold Atlanta to very minimal yardage.
Sean (Worcester)
In a PPR league, would you trade Fargas (My 3rd best RB) for Jennings? I have Welker, McDonald and Engram.
AJ Mass (3:26 PM)
I'd probably prefer to keep my RB depth. They've been dropping like flies this year.
Luke (TX)
Ethics Question: The commish of our league is either a genius or a cheater and I don't know what to do. He just pulled off Hasselbeck/T. Jones for McGahee after LJ went down. He is always getting exactly what he needs but you can never protest the trades since they are generally fair value, make both teams better, and he trades with everyone in the league. I want to protest this trade, but since he is the commish who do I gripe to?
AJ Mass (3:28 PM)
So, you're saying you want to complain that you have a commish who makes fair trades with everyone in the league and his deals always benefit both teams in the deal? I get that right?
Rich (NJ)
What are your thoughts on Roddey White? Do you think his numbers will improve or get worse?
AJ Mass (3:29 PM)
I think they've reached a ceiling in the current system. Can only get worse.
JB (Dunmore, PA)
Is Wes Welker a must start every week at #3 WR?
AJ Mass (3:30 PM)
Unless you have Moss, TO and Edwards, then yes.
Joel ( Roscommon MI)
Is Hackett, Henry and Holmes and winning WR trio this week ?
AJ Mass (3:31 PM)
You can't usually win on WR alone, but I'd take my chances with that trio.
Jeff (Boston)
Trade scenario: Cooley and Coles for B. favre. I'm currently starting Kitna and that scares me to no end. His starting TE is Davis and 2nd WR is Driver. Fair, good for both teams?
AJ Mass (3:32 PM)
I'm not sure he's really getting need there, but I don't worry about that. Make the offer and see what he says. It's likely good for you.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Thoughts on rotisserie format? Ever try it? Which format do you prefer?
AJ Mass (3:33 PM)
I have played a version of that format that I found very entertaining. One season came down to Steve Young getting receiving yards for passing the ball to himself, and that decided the champion.
jr (atl)
Please AJ, Need to decide within an hour, Should i give up Gore for Willis???????THANKS!!!
AJ Mass (3:34 PM)
No need to wait that long. Grab it.
Ryan (Pocomoke, MD)
Should I start Kurt Warner or Matt Hasselback this weekend?
AJ Mass (3:35 PM)
Can't go wrong either way, I think. But I'd go Matt. I'm never convinced the next Warner pass isn't his last.
Mike (Nashville)
If KJ can't play this week, who do you like best out of these flex options? Thomas Jones vs. Pitt (bleh...), Derrick Mason vs. Cleveland, or Lee Evans vs. NE? I generally prefer RB's in the flex, but TJones has burned me all year and faces Pittsburgh...
AJ Mass (3:36 PM)
I'd go Mason - especially with Boller in and McNair out.
Tom(DC)
Trade Welker for Bulger if current qbs are Schuab and Warner
AJ Mass (3:37 PM)
No. I think you ride Kurt for a while, and Schaub has huge upside with AJ back. And I think you're likely giving up too much at WR.
Joe (NY)
i need reassurance!! i just traded brees for housh (big ben is my starter). did i do ok???
AJ Mass (3:38 PM)
From the standpoint that Ben will be good to you and you likely won't need Brees. Yes.
Eddie (ID)
AJ - deadline looming - trade Ward for Cotchery & Hackett? I have Ben at QB and Parker at RB. Would only start one of the two though.
AJ Mass (3:39 PM)
Not a bad move. After all, when Ben throws to Ward you're still getting points for it after the deal, and if they get shut out, maybe one of the other guys scores for you, so it's not a complete loss.
lee alabama
no one in my league will pull the trigger on a trade, whats up with that?
AJ Mass (3:40 PM)
Fear leads to inaction. Inaction leads to boredom. Boredom leads to cheating. Cheating leads to fear.
Paul (KC)
Bears D was dropped in our league. Was the Oakland game a sign of good things to come for them, or is Oak just that bad, and the Bears D continues a downward slide?
AJ Mass (3:41 PM)
Oakland is that bad, but more than that, the Bears have a tough schedule - Seattle, NYG, GB, NO left. Could be rocky.
Adam (TDOT)
Alright, ive been very patient, DREW BENNETT...DREW BENNETT...DREW BENNETT...What you think of him as a huge sleeper this week, considering all the factors and the factors with my other 2 options...boldin and steve smith???? if you can give me some reasoning whom to start????????????? thx
AJ Mass (3:43 PM)
If Bruce is indeed a no-go then Bennett has a chance for a big day. But I'd still take Boldin if there's no late-week announcement that his hip has flared up. Bengals too good a matchup to pass up.
Kevin (MA)
Philosophical question. In a 12 team league, do you prefer that 6 teams make the playoffs (top 2 get byes) or 8 teams?
AJ Mass (3:45 PM)
I think you should at least be in the upper half of the league to make playoffs. BUT in a super-friendly, play for no money kind of league, the longer you keep people interested the better your chances at not having owners give up and tank. In my 12 team league, we could have 4 teams out of the playoff hunt after this week - but we've been playing for 15 years, so I'm not concerned.
Wesley (Nashville,TN)
AJ after an excellent week, is it now time to ABANDON the "McNabb" Ship and trade him off with Bowe for Chad Johnson??
AJ Mass (3:46 PM)
I'd look to get rid of Donovan sooner rather than later if I had an adequate QB to step in. You get Bowe and 85, you do it.
Mark (State College, PA)
Speaking of McNabb. In a 2QB league with nothing much out there, is it worth picking up Kolb to "handcuff" McNabb?
AJ Mass (3:48 PM)
It certainly couldn't hurt. I don't think that Reid will make a switch (though nothing he does truly surprises me) but McNabb isn't exactly indestructible.
Eric (CA)
I see Kitna's the #14 QB this week. Why? I thought the Giants secondary was horrible. I orginally had him penciled in over Anderson.
AJ Mass (3:50 PM)
Perhaps I should introduce you to Osi and Strahan? Kitna leads the league in being sacked. He's got to be standing in order to beat the weak secondary.
jon lsu
is bowe gonna make an impact with the qb change ?
AJ Mass (3:51 PM)
I think a lot has to do with how well Priest holds up. Croyle won't get much done if there's no run. But with Kennison's feeble-osity, Bowe is looking like KC's best WR option.
AJ Mass (3:51 PM)
Lightning round time already? Time do fly!
Joel ( Roscommon MI)
Do you expect Droughns to continue to poach goalline work from Jacobs ?
AJ Mass (3:53 PM)
Wouldn't be surprised, though it might not be Droughns - could be Ward.
P(boston)
your yoda like comment to Lee in Alabama was awesome...just sayin.
AJ Mass (3:53 PM)
Red in the face am I.
Travis (NY)
It's a battle of the mediocre RB's. Pick 3 out of the following 4: Benson, Fargas, Priest, Chester. Thanks AJ.
AJ Mass (3:54 PM)
I never pick Cedric. Never.
Jefe (Texas)
What's your opinion on S. Smith & Harrison for the remainder of the season? Are they dependable or should i target someone else?
AJ Mass (3:54 PM)
Smith might do OK depending on Vinny's health and the matchup. I wouldn't cut Marvin if I had him, but I wouldn't try and get him either.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
When is FWP gonna score another TD?
AJ Mass (3:55 PM)
About 7 minutes into the second quarter.
John, CA
LIGHTNING ROUND: Edge or White? Bulger or Favre?
AJ Mass (3:55 PM)
Edge and Favre
Greg (Miami)
Lynch or Graham?
AJ Mass (3:55 PM)
Graham. Lynch may not go.
Chris (Boston)
In the flex: Maurice Morris, Jericho Cotchery, or Dwayne Bowe????
AJ Mass (3:56 PM)
Bowe is my choice, though I switch to Mo Mo if he's declared starter.
Lighting Round Ronald
Evans or Coles this week?
AJ Mass (3:56 PM)
Coles
lee alabama
j lewis or crayton at flex?
AJ Mass (3:57 PM)
Crayton
Brian (Georgia)
Pick Three this week: TJ, Bowe, Ward, Henry(Cin), and Coles
AJ Mass (3:57 PM)
Sit the Jets
tammy
what is with the love with lee from bama? s.holmes or welker
AJ Mass (3:58 PM)
Aw Tammy - if you think I actually have time to keep track of the names as well as the questions... Welker for me.
AJ Mass (3:58 PM)
Last call!
Ken (Evansville, IN)
AJ, Sarah or Lou? Also, Grant or Taylor for the rest of the season? And who to drop, Watson or M. Morris?
AJ Mass (4:00 PM)
Anyone who knows me knows I go Sara. I think Taylor for rest of season - though I'd keep Morris.
AJ Mass (4:00 PM)
That's all the time I got folks... got to jet to Maui. Hush hush stuff. See you on Sunday.
