Stephania Bell (11:04 AM)
Good morning everyone! Thanks to those of you who are here and noticed the time switch. Had to make a change b/c I will be doing injury updates on the Hot List Fantasy 350 - today at 3:50 - so check that out for later updates. But now, let's get to your awesome questions...
Is it Steph-a-KNEE-a or Steph-ON-ya? Also, is Marvin Harrison playing this week?
Stephania Bell (11:05 AM)
Hi Kae: It's the latter - thanks for asking - b/c I get many variations. Harrison has not practiced at all this week so it's not looking good for Sunday.
Stephania, please tell me Deion Branch is going to play this Sunday!! Thanks!
Stephania Bell (11:06 AM)
Hi Riaz: Yes, I will tell you this! He is no longer on the injury report and is expected to play.
Eric (new york, ny)
HI!! What is the real deal with Kevin Jones' foot? and why isn't he listed on the injury report - he obviously has an injury, and it caused him to miss most of the last game. Can I trust him to start this week for my fantasy team? Thanks!
Stephania Bell (11:08 AM)
Hi Eric: It's a good question. What I'm hearing is that Jones' foot started to get sore during alst week's game so they sat him the remainder of the game (I think he only had 4 carries). He is not on the injury report meaning he could practice - and in coming back from an injury this severe, it is not uncommon to have these ups and downs. The Lions want to make sure they do not really set him bakc, so when it bothers him, they proactively rest him. My expectation is that he will start - but be forewarned that if the foot starts to act up, he may leave early. it's a bit of a gamble.
Stephania, Should I start Travis Henry on Monday Night? Or is it better to play it safe with Chester Taylor? Thanks!!
Stephania Bell (11:10 AM)
Hi Ed: Play it safe with Taylor. Henry now has a partially torn PCL in the same knee in which he injured his MCL earlier in the year. He was at practice Thursday wearing a brace, but he doesn't like the brace and says he won't wear one in the game. I think it's unlikely that he will have done enough to return, but it is Monday night so the extra day gives him a shot. But with Young performing well, he will get the majority of the work anyway. And you know Taylor is getting the start without question, in a pretty good matchup.
Dee (San Francisco, Ca)
Great Chats! What can we expect from Andre Johnson? Is he someone to target in a trade for the stretch run despite his tough schedule? Thanks
Stephania Bell (11:11 AM)
Hi Dee: (Fellow SFer): Thanks for coming - I expect Johnson to be strong down the stretch and the Texans will be happy to have him back. He has wisely played it safe in his return and I think he will be good to go.
Paige, Cleveland, OH
Do you think in your honest opinion Stephania that Larry Johnsons season is over?
Stephania Bell (11:13 AM)
Hi Paige: I am really not comfortable making the call yet. I think there has been a lot of speculation, now we are hearing rumors that johnson is telling teammates he has a crack in his foot. If he has a fracture, his season would likely end, at the very least he would miss the fantasy season. But he is seeing a specialist next week and until we have something official, I am going with the sprain. That being said, be sure to have a backup you could live with for several weeks, regardless.
Tom ( SoCal )
Hi Stephania, Whats the status of Reggie Bush, Is he good to go on Sunday? Thanks
Stephania Bell (11:15 AM)
Hi Tom: Bush is not on the injury report after the concussion last week. Expect him to go!
pinky (BPT CT)
how hurt is DeShaun Foster...? Is the feeling that it's going to be a "rest of the season" type of injury?
Stephania Bell (11:17 AM)
Pinky: Whenever you see toe, you just have to expect that it will be an on-again, off-again injury. Now Foster left last week's game early, but has practiced all week and is expected to play. There is the chance he aggravates it during the game, but keep in mind he had a great game in Week 8 (I believe) - but in any case, it was after the toe injury arose.
Phil Grand Rapids
Hi Stephania, I noticed westbrook did not practice yesterday, anything to be concerned with?
Stephania Bell (11:18 AM)
Hi Phil: Don't think so. Westbrook has had some ongoing issues with knee inflammation and often takes a day or two of rpactice off during the week to rest it. The, as you may have noticed, he is awesome on Sundays. I expect this week to be no different.
John (Boston, MA)
I've seen that Lynch's ankle injury is considered serious, but nothing seems to be published about the real extent of the injury. How long do you think he'll be out?
Stephania Bell (11:19 AM)
Hi John: They haven't released the grade of ankle sprain which would tell us a lot more. At first we heard no fractures, not serious. But he's limping around, not practicing and it's more serious than they thought. A bad sprain is sometimes worse than a fracture in terms of healing. Again, without knowing the grade, we have to go with his activity - but at this point I would say count on him out this week and next.
What's the latest word on Adrian Peterson, or when can we expect some more news?
Stephania Bell (11:21 AM)
Hi Kevin: The team is treating him as day to day and ensures us he will not be back until/unless he is 100%. If it were me, I'd plan on him being done for the season, and then be pleasantly surprised if he comes back. But it really is a day to day evaluation, so there is no way to project his time frame with any certainty.
Why has Wes Welker been limited in practice this week? Anything serious going on?
Stephania Bell (11:23 AM)
Now Chris: Wel ker plays for the Patriots - which you know by now means we get zero information. Add to that the fact that he has been limited in practice b/c of a "team decision" (meaning no body aprt is indicated) and we can only speculate. Maybe he's just a bit banged up from all his action and they're resting him for the game. But his "injury" remains a mystery.
Is Dallas Clark going to be playing this weekend? Thank you
Stephania Bell (11:24 AM)
hi Charlie: Clark is off the injury report (concussion) and I expect him to start this week.
Eric (Boise, ID)
What's the latest on Chad Johnson? He was held out of practice, what that precautionary, or something else?
Stephania Bell (11:25 AM)
Hi Eric: Johnson often has a day off during the week to rest a sore ankle. They list him as a "knee" this week but have not provided any other info. I actually am not concerned and think it's just precautionary BUT he is one to check after Friday practice to see what he does to be sure.
Just got Torry Holt in a deal. Will his knee hold up for the rest of the season?
Stephania Bell (11:29 AM)
Hi Jennie: If only I could predict the future. Holt will no doubt deal with intermittent swelling in his knee. What we never know is when will it show up enough to be a problem. I would say based on the way he's looked lately, I see no reason to think he won't make it all season. But again, anything can happen.
What's the deal with Ernest Graham? I dont remember any indictations of an injury on sunday.
Stephania Bell (11:31 AM)
Hi Kevin: It was definitely under the radar. It sounds as if he tweaked his ankle, and the team has been cautious and limited his practice reps, but it still sounds as if he will play this weekend. Interestingly, Pittman may be making a return also so that may affect Graham's overall carries.
Kent (Baltimore, MD)
Injured players on Monday night games always worry fantasy owners. So, does LenDale White look good to start and play on Monday?
Stephania Bell (11:33 AM)
Hi Kent: Yes, you're right. But I don't think you need to worry about White. He is a bit sore (toe, knee) but he says overall he's fine and expects to play Monday. This could be a showcase for him against a poor run defense.
Dan (queens, NY)
What's the deal with Shaun Alexander and Jerious Norwood? Will they be limited?
Stephania Bell (11:34 AM)
Hi Dan: Alexander has yet to practice this week and is very questionable. I would want to see him go pretty hard in practice today before I would have any confidence that he would play. Right now, no confidence. As for Norwood, his ankle is reportedly feeling better and he is expected to play this week.
Will you marry me?
or atleast tell me what the deal with Todd Heap is for this weekend?
Stephania Bell (11:36 AM)
Well, I'll tell you what I know about Heap. He aggravated the hamstring last week and has not practiced yet this week. Don't expect him to play.
Latest on Javon Walker? And what's with Derrick Ward? Sounds like he's badly banged up. Will he be worth keeping the rest of the way as a handcuff to Jacobs?
Stephania Bell (11:39 AM)
Hi John: Walker has started doing some route running and reportedly feels good. His targeted return date is Week 12. Ward is pretty banged up. The bad ankle, along with the groin injury. He's not practicing yet even so I would find another backup.
What is going on with Steve Smith's shin and why the secrecy out of Carolina?
Stephania Bell (11:41 AM)
Hi Nathan: Not sure that it's that secretive, but it appears that they're not that worried, hence minimal information. They're calling it a mild shin injury, which usually means a bruise, or sore muscles along the front of the shin. Either way, doesn't sound like it will keep him out.
Since your male counterparts always like the who's hotter questions who do prefer between McSteamy and McDreamy? As to FF, I have to play either Priest, Selvin, K. Jones, or Chatman at RB2. I normally play Jones but given the injuries should I go with someone else?
Stephania Bell (11:44 AM)
Hi Tina: I am probably one of the only people who doesn't watch Gray's Anatomy - so I can't answer! No particular reason, just haven't. But I know enough to know those two are from that show - just not which one is which. Anyway, I would take Chatman or Priest. Young is great - but tough matchup. Jones will likely play but given the recent flareup of his foot they may limit his touches. Chatman and Priest have the best chance of carrying often and seeing the end zone.
Rudi Rudi Rudi - any issues this week?
Stephania Bell (11:45 AM)
Hi Brian: Only the fact that he's in an endless share with Kenny Watson - and we haven't seen high productivity since the hamstring injury.
Gerard (Celebration, FL)
Good morning Stephania... How does Matt Schaub look, and is Andre Johnson expected to be back. The reason I ask is that I have Kitna this week vs. the Giants and wondering if I should pick up Schaub vs NO instead. Thanks!
Stephania Bell (11:47 AM)
Hi Gerard: Johnson IS expected to be back in a big way. Schaub also looks to be feeling much better and does not appear on the injury report at all. I expect them to hook up on Sunday and improve the passing game. Kitna will still likely get you a lot of passing yards, but against the Saints D I think Schaub has a much needed good game.
What can we expect from Ahman Green this week?
Stephania Bell (11:48 AM)
Scott: Not much. He continues to struggle with the knee and I think it gives him trouble again this week.
Seth (Charleston, SC)
Why do we have an injury chat on Friday when most injury designations aren't out until the end of the day on Friday? I'd prefer something like this for later in the day...just a thought.
Stephania Bell (11:49 AM)
Seth - Even when I did the chat at 3 many of the practice reports are not yet in. We often don't know until evening. So we do an injury chat at 10 a.m. on Sunday to give you the latest updates and I post additional status news in my blog late Saturday.
Monte (Easton, PA)
Thoughts on Frank Gore?
Stephania Bell (11:51 AM)
Monte: Well, he had decent numbers on Monday considering what was taking place around him. His ankle, although still sore (which is why they're limiting him some during the week), held up well Monday and he is expected to play this weekend.
Ashton (Chicago, IL)
What is Trent Edwards' injury status? Should Losman get injured, not that I'm hoping for that, would Edwards be able to play?
Stephania Bell (11:52 AM)
Hi Ashton: Edwards is no longer on the injury report and should be available as a backup if something were to happen to losman.
Peter (New York)
L. Coles or S. Smith who's a better start health wise and match up wise? Thank you
Stephania Bell (11:55 AM)
Hi peter: Coles is in better shape healthwise this week simply b/c he is not on the injury report at all, seems well rested after the bye and another week off, etc. Coles' matchup against the Steelers D is pretty tough though. For the Panthers, it depends on who is throwing the ball. We don't know yet if it will be Testaverde or Carr. I still might be tempted to go with Smith b/c of the matchup, But if Carr were going I could lean back towards Coles.
What is Santana Moss's status?
Stephania Bell (11:57 AM)
hi Rob: He's still dealing with the bruised heel, has not done much of anything this week, and does not look good for Sunday.
Anquan Boldin...can he be trusted as a starter with the lingering hip injury? The matchups are great, but what I hear from him and the coach is not good.
Stephania Bell (11:58 AM)
Chris: this is a tough call. Boldin clearly not at 100% and does not expect to be the rest of the year. And his looks have dropped off, probably as a result. Fitzgerald getting more opportunity. I think he will stay about the same level of prodcution for the remainder of the season, with the occasional up-game. I might look elsewehere.
Sjax or LJ for the rest of the year.
Stephania Bell (11:59 AM)
SJax - no question. Coming off injury (mostly healed) as opposed to just going down with injury. No question.
chris (Tempe, AZ)
What is the word on Branch? I have been waiting for weeks to play this guy?
Stephania Bell (11:59 AM)
He's playing from what we hear. Wait no more.
Stephania -- Does PlAXICO seem to be regressing? Is his ankle injury cause to sell (somewhat) high?
Stephania Bell (12:02 PM)
Robert; Popular question. the ankle will bug him all season, and he is saying that it feels worse now than it has since he initially injured it - but is that the reason for his decreased productivity? Hard to know if you can attribute it all to that since he was quite productive early on when the ankle was at its worst. What this likely means is that he will rarely practice, if at all, and they will try to reserve him for games. He will play, but does run the risk of making it worse in a game and leaving early. Still, he does tend to play and remains a favorite Eli target.
Linda- Desperate for a win in Chicago
Pick an injured (or Bad) RB to go with Parker: KJones, Graham or Benson?
Stephania Bell (12:03 PM)
Linda - anyone but Benson, injured is better than bad. I like Earnest Graham this week.
Is Isaac Bruce playing this week?
Stephania Bell (12:05 PM)
Jim: It sounds as if he will. Despite reports that he aggravated the hamstring last week, Bruce has been a full participant in practice so far this week. the concern would be that he flares it up again in a game situation only 1 week later. A bit of a risk.
Stephania Bell (12:11 PM)
OK everyone: It's time for me to close it out. A few final thoughts. 1) Some of the late questions were answered early in the chat, so be sure to check out the chat wrap which gets posted pretty quickly after we sign off here. 2) Some folks asking about my background: I'm a physical therapist, Board certified in Orthopedics, certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and I have practiced in the area of sports medicine for years, with a wide range of athletes, high school to pro. 3) Chat times - It's hard to make everyone happy with the chat times - and I can only do so many. I'm thrilled that you guys like them enough to want more, it's just that right now, I can't do more than the two. And we do get a lot of traffic Sunday morning, although I know some people have already made their decisions. We'll keep looking at the time slots and see what continues to work best for the majority of folks. Thanks to everyone for coming!! I love the Sports Nation. Good luck this weekend. May you all make the playoffs.
