Why didnt Missouri get a BCS bid?
Bob Davie (1:05 PM)
Well I am sure there is a logical explanation based on the BCS system. But if you are a Mizzou fan that will not make you feel any better. It is amazing that Missouri beats Kansas and then is penalized because they play Oklahoma and lose in the Big 12 title game. No one can argue that Kansas at 11-1 does not deserve a BCS game. But Missouri, a team that beat them two weeks ago also deserves a BCS bowl as well. The reality is, only two teams from one conference can go to the BCS. It is unfortunate that the Tigers won't be involved. Now the challenge becomes preparing for the Cotton Bowl, and their matchup with a very talented Arkansas team. It is hard to imagine you can be No. 1 in the nation on Saturday, lose to Oklahoma and then be shut out of the BCS games.

Coach, If there were a 4 team playoff with USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State and LSU, how would you seed those teams?
Bob Davie (1:08 PM)
That's impossible to answer. But I think you are leaving one team out that may be as hot as any in the country right now. Florida with Tim Tebow maybe 12th in the BCS poll, but in my opinion give Urbvan Mayer a month to prepare and they may win the whole thing if there was a playoff. USC, Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma right now in my opinion would be my four teams for a playoff. Obviously the way the season has gone, everyone has an opinion.

USC-Illinois? Really? Is that the best game the Rose Bowl could come up with? I know the Pac-10-Big-10 tie in thing, but would a USC-Florida/Missouri matchup get much more attention?
Bob Davie (1:11 PM)
I can see you are at work, and do not want to leave your name because your boss maybe on on the same chat. I think you bring up a very valid point. But knowing the Rose Bowl, they are going to do it the way they want and it is important to them and their history to have a game between the Big Ten and Pac-10. There is certainly a well-earned arrogance with the Rose Bowl, and because of history and tradition they do things a little more different than the other bowl commitees. On paper it is hard to understand Illinois getting the bid, but understanding the Rose Bowl and their tradition answers the question. Illinois, even with three loses, will make for an entertaining matchup against the Trojans. They have a young talented team and the extra month of practice will help them get ready. This will be a better game than most people think. At least for a while.

If Hawaii defeats Georgia, and LSU wins the title, do you see a situation with a split national championship ala 2003 with LSU (BCS) and USC (AP)?
Bob Davie (1:14 PM)
I do not think that would happen. Hawaii deserves to be in a BCS bowl game, but I do not think they deserve to be in the national title convesation. LSU surviving the SEC with their only losses being in triple OT, will without a doubt, be the unanimous national champ. Playing in the SEC every week, as a target, as LSU has been all year is a lot different than playing Hawaii's schdule. The Cumulative effect of lining up every week against top competition, like LSU has done, needs to be worth something. Bottom line, Ohio St or LSU, will be the national champion and the controversy will continue.
John (Columbus, Oh)
Bob, who do you think will win the national championship game between LSU and Ohio State? PS: (Ohio State wants redemption)
Bob Davie (1:18 PM)
Ohio State will be ready toi play and will probably play their best football game of the year. The fact that LSU is playing a home game and the noise factor in the SuperDome will be a big advatage to the Tigers and that gives them the nod. This will be a close football game, because LSU on offense, does not quite prove the matchup problems Florida did last year for the Buckeyes. Ohio State will be well preapred and focused because of last year's loss. LSU, with some turnover on their coaching staff, may not have the same advatage inregards to focus. Isn't it amazing that Les Myles gets to play against Ohio State?
Bob, is Michigan in danger of falling from the elite? Their coaching search isn't going well, they haven't won bowl games recently and can't beat their biggest rival.
Bob Davie (1:20 PM)
Michigan will never fall from the elite in college football. In the coaching profession it is always considered a great coaching job. They probably need to upgrade some things facility wise right now, but the foundation has always been there for success. Remember, Michigan was picked No. 2 in the country this year by most people before the start of the season.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Coach, excluding the Championship Game, which Bowl game are you most excited to see?
Bob Davie (1:21 PM)
I think the Capital One game between Michigan and Florida, as well as the Fiesta Bowl with Oklahoma and West Virginia, are great games.
Joe (Madison, WI)
Bob, if Michigan will never fall from the elite, what is currently happening at Notre Dame?
Bob Davie (1:25 PM)
Notre Dame is still in the elite when you talk about college football programs. I know that may be difficult to explain when you look at the won-loss records and lack of success in bowl games over the last ten years. Michigan, and Notre Dame will always be, in my opinion, in the elite just because of the impact they have. An example is what a huge story across the nation Michigan and ND are even when they lose. Winning or losing is always a big topic in this country at those two porgrams, and because of that I consider them elite.
Bob Davie (1:25 PM)
Both schools will continue to attract talent. and also national attention. In the big picture, it is more than just year and year out won-loss records.
Ohio State fans travel as well as anyone in the country. Do you think they'll be able to get even close to half the seats in New Orleans?
Bob Davie (1:28 PM)
It will still be a huge home field atmosphere for LSU in the SuperDome. LSU fans will find a way to get the extra tickets that are not a part of the Ohio State pool. I agree with you that Ohio State has as good a fans as LSU, and the same interests in their porgram. These tickets will be tough to get, but because of where the game is being played, the Tigers fans will find a way. Having coached in the Super Dome and against LSU at home, trust me, this could be the loudest environment Ohio State has eve rplayed in. Wells and the running game is the best weapon to combat that.
Thoughts on BC-Michigan State? Do these teams match-up because on paper to me it looks like the Eagles will feast on the Spartans.
Bob Davie (1:32 PM)
On paper BC probably had an advantage over MSU, but I think this will be an even game. The reality is, Michigan St. will be more excited to play than Boston College in the Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando. BC probably had their eye on a higher bowl game and Michigan State is just glad to be playing. Even though Ryan is a great young QB, there will be a a lot of distrations as people start asking about his NFL career and the draft. As you know motivation for these second-teir bowl games is often the biggest factor in determining the outcome. MSU I think has the mental advantage as they porepare for this game. BC has a lot of senior players and their goal was to get the program to the next level this year. Bottom line, they are at the same level they were last year.
