We've heard a lot of complaining about a playoff system this season. Do you think we need a college football playoff?
Archie Griffin (2:43 PM)
I think eventually we will get to that, but I don't think it's in the near future. I think in the next BCS contract, we might get to a playoff. We have to convince the college presidents that we need a playoff. The thing about a playoff is that the bowls for the colleges have been very good for football and they don't want to upset the bowls. I can understand that. The colleges and ADs feel loyal to the bowls. But I think eventually we'll get to a playoff. That's the only way we can get a true national champion. The difficulty of that is do we get a team that just gets hot at the end? We get that in basketball sometime.
Preston (Mobile, AL)
Mr. Griffin, do you think Tim Tebow can win 2 Heismans? what about 3? Thanks, and God bless.
Archie Griffin (2:44 PM)
I think that if Tim Tebow wins that Heisman tomorrow, he would have a chance if he stays for his senior year. From what it seems like he has a good chance this year. It seems like it's a toss up with him and McFadden.
Dale (Louisville)
how excited are you to be a part of the Wendy's Heisman and bringing to light some of the excellent high school athletes out therE?
Archie Griffin (2:45 PM)
I'm extremely excited. The Wendy's Heisman is one of my pride and joys. We're recognizing young people for their accomplishments. This year we had over 32,000 candidates. Tonight we'll take the 12 finalists and pick one winner, male and female. I love the way it's going.
Scott (Riverdale)
What do you think about Hawaii? They're the only undefeated team, do you think they deserve to be in a BCS game, maybe even the BCS title game?
Archie Griffin (2:46 PM)
I don't have a problem saying they probably deserve a shot at the BCS title game. They play a fine brand of football. It would be interesting to see how they play in that high of a game. I don't know if they can consistently play at their level of play this year, year in year out, but this year they did. I'm glad to see them in the BCS.
Vance (Philadelphia)
Who was the player you enjoyed watching the most this year (not necessarily the someone that you voted for for the Heisman)?
Archie Griffin (2:47 PM)
Dennis Dixon was a kid I liked watching ever since the game against Michigan. He's a guy that I really really enjoyed watching.
Paul AZ
What does the OSU - Michigan Rivalry mean to you.
Archie Griffin (2:47 PM)
Oh, it's as big as it's ever been. It's absolutely incredible. Every year I still get psyched up for the game, even though I'm not playing any more. It will be interesting to see who Michigan gets for their coach.
Phillip (Tucson)
Were you surprised by the BCS title matchup?
Archie Griffin (2:48 PM)
I wasn't surprised when Ohio State got into it, because we all knew what had to happen for them to get in. Seeing all the teams ahead lose games, it put us in position. On that last day when WVU and Missouri lost, that surprised me.
Bill (Chicago)
How did you get hooked up with Wendy's heisman?
Archie Griffin (2:49 PM)
I started with this back in 1994 when the program was first thought of by Dave Thomas. He wanted to do something to recognize young people for their excellence. I'm from Columbus that's where Wendy's is based. I knew some people in Columbus and it was a natural fit.
Neal (Washington)
Are there any games that you played in college that still stick out in your mind?
Archie Griffin (2:50 PM)
The game that sticks out in my mind is my second game of my freshman year. The first game I fumbled and was taken out of the game. The second game, I got into the game and gained 239 yards after being on the practice squad in practice all week.
Matt (Abilene, TX)
Do you think colt brennan will get looked at legitemately? He plays in a soft conference but he is a much more talented qb than Tebow. Your thoughts?
Archie Griffin (2:51 PM)
I think he's a great player. I believe what he showed this year was really some outstanding skills. I think he's going to do well at the next level.
David (Cleveland, Ohio)
You think OSU will win vs. LSU? Show me some OSU pride. O-H!
Archie Griffin (2:53 PM)
I think we'll see a great game. LSU has an outstanding team and will be playing in their backyard. I think you'll see some fired up fans and some fired up players out there. OSU will be trying to prove that they belong there after the game last year against Florida. LSU will be trying to prove they belong after jumping six teams or so in the BCS.
Archie Griffin (2:53 PM)
Defensively, OSU will have to be strong. Offensively the QB will have to be on his game and Beanie Wells will have to get going.
Bill (St. Louis)
Where do you keep your Heismans and how proud were you of yourself when you won your second one?
Archie Griffin (2:56 PM)
Bill, I keep one of the Heismans at home and the other one I keep at a friends restaurant. I was extremely proud to win the second one. I didn't think they'd give it to anyone twice. I was overwhelmed. It speaks about the teams I played with at OSU. We had some outstanding people. I was in the right place at the right time.
Archie Griffin (2:56 PM)
Thanks for the support. The Buckeyes are looking forward to playing in the national championship game and make you all proud.
