Chris (Lexington, KY)
In the finals - who to choose at QB, Brees on a roll vs. Philly D that is the reason I won last week (my opponent had Romo, TO, and Witten) or Hasslebeck against a depleted Ravens D that appears to have given up on the season?
Scott Engel (3:00 PM)
Good afternoon everyone! I would go with Hasselbeck, because of Romo's thumb. Could be windy in Seattle with some rain, but I'll still take the Seahawks QB
Jessica S.(Eagles Defensive Scheme)
Hey Scott...Tough decision in superbowl this week...if Rudi and LJ both don't play, would you use K.Watson or Kolby Smith? thanks
Scott Engel (3:00 PM)
Watson ina PPR league, Smith with a better chance to score in a standard league
Rob (ATL)
You are the who is rallying the troops against Addai. Please elaborate! Is MJD a better play?
Scott Engel (3:02 PM)
I'm not rallying against anything - just saying to use a safer play if you have one - and that includes MJD against a very bad Oakland run D
Juan (San Diego)
Any update on Rudy? Who do you like better this sunday, Ron Dayne or Rudy? and why?
Scott Engel (3:03 PM)
Rudi is not likely to play, Watson is expected to start, so use Dayne
JB (Philly)
Scott, Despertae need of your help with my medicore WR 3 players. Pick 1 C.Henry, B.Wade, Roydell williams or Gaffney?
Scott Engel (3:04 PM)
I would go with Gaffney, good chance of scoring against Miami
Mike (Fresno)
GB D (vs. Chi) or Tenn D (vs. NYJ)?
Scott Engel (3:06 PM)
I would go with the Packers against Orton, with a forecast of snow showers and strong winds, according to the Waether Channel's site
Mike (Indy)
If Rudi doesn't play then were would you rank Watson for this week?
Scott Engel (3:06 PM)
I have him 19th for now, and you could see some of DeDe Dorsey too, I would think
Scott (OK City)
Would you go with an apparently healthy Boldin or A. Gonzales?
Scott Engel (3:07 PM)
I would go with Boldin as Gonzalez could be rested some, possibly
Kurt (Portsmouth, NH)
Scott, a follow-up on Addai, would you consider starting Stecker over him?
Scott Engel (3:08 PM)
Definitely - Stecker is playing well and I would not expect much from Bush if he is available
Shaun (San Diego)
Need to pick 2 of 3: Which way would you go? Grant, Addai, F. Taylor
Scott Engel (3:09 PM)
No way can you sit Taylor against the Raiders, and Grant should get more touches than Addai
Shockey Owner (Dumpsville)
Hey Scotty, our league doesn't allow pickups in the playoffs, but I have Shockey and he's my only TE, and am lobbying that I should get to pick up a replacement. What do you think? A vote of confidence from you would go a long way with my commish! Thanks!!
Scott Engel (3:11 PM)
I think the rule should be changed for next season based on your dilemma as a prime example - but I am not in favor of rule changes during the season, and you should have also retained a reserve with the knowledge of the rules beforehand
Morgan (Baltimore)
Addai or McGahee? Remove the game the Ravens played the Colts and McGahee has averaged almost 5 points more per game over the past 6 weeks.
Scott Engel (3:12 PM)
I don't remove anything, because it's not like it didn't happen, but I expect McGahee to get more touches and would use him
Kevin (Montoursville, PA)
Scott, Burress (Q) or Engram against that battered baltimore D?
Scott Engel (3:14 PM)
Burress always plays despite the questionable designation - strong winds in both games but I will take Burress in a must-win game for NYG
Kevin (MA)
Scott, got 14 pts from Holmes last night and obviously starting T.O. Please pick 1 from Reg. Brown, Reg. Williams or Bowe. THX.
Scott Engel (3:15 PM)
I would go with Williams - the Garrard to Williams slant is a regular scoring weapon for the Jags
Ryan Buckhead
If Watson is named the starter, would you use him over Dayne?
Scott Engel (3:16 PM)
I expect him to start, like his matchup, and would use him over Dayne
todd (phila,)
kolby smith or maroney
Scott Engel (3:17 PM)
Smith - good matchup at Detroit and the Pats may return to throwing a lot this week
Joel ( Roscommon MI)
Scott, Anderson or Romo, Chris Henry or Cotchery ?
Scott Engel (3:18 PM)
Anderson has strong winds to contend with, Romo has the thumb, but I will take Anderson - Cotchery is more reliable than Henry
Tom (Philly)
Defense wins championships! Packers or Vikings? Both have good matchups.
Scott Engel (3:20 PM)
Defense does notw in fantasy championships, but with weather and a young QB favtors against Chicago, I take the Pack
Mike (Denver)
Do i need to worry about LJ stealing caries from Kolby?
Scott Engel (3:21 PM)
No - LJ is very unlikely to play, according to our most recent player update
Mike (Denver)
Am I crazy for considering giving Scheffler the nod over Gonzo?
Scott Engel (3:21 PM)
Not crazy, but I would not do that as Gonzalez faces Detroit
point-counterpoint
vernon davis has disappointed this year and underperformed, but actually has been playing decent lately...now he faces the stingy bucs defense. tony scheffler has had a couple of good games sporadically, but is far from consistent. he faces a tough chargers defense, but cutler seems to like him and now javon, stokely and d-graham are dinged up. so which TE gets the nod and why?
Scott Engel (3:23 PM)
Neither guy is reliable, but I like Scheffler better - you have obviosuly done the homework and have given a lot of the reasons yourself
Scott (Louisville, KY)
With weather in Chicago, do you recommend starting Warner over Favre? 0.5 point per completion, -2 points for INTs and fumbles lost, and -1 point for sacks taken. Thanks for the help!
Scott Engel (3:25 PM)
Atlanta does have a good secondary if anything, and Favre is a guy used to bad weather, so I stick with him,
Ben ATL
Hey Scott, its my 1st championship game ever and i could really use your help. Who to start at Flex: Dayne, Chester or Darius Walker? Thanks for all the advice this season Happy Holidays!!
Scott Engel (3:26 PM)
I would go with Dayne for the most touches and best chance of scoring
dave rochester
Anderson over Romo you need your head examined. Anderson has 40moh winds to contend with. Read the reports Romo threw all week in practice. I wish I was playing you this week in Championship.
Scott Engel (3:28 PM)
The winds will be 22 mph, not 40, and he's facing the Bengals. Watch how Romo looked last week and do what you want. You wouldn't play me because I would not let you in my league with that kind of attitude.
Phil (Detroit)
Who gets the nod between Lynch and Stecker?
Scott Engel (3:30 PM)
Both have challenging matchups, but I will go with Stecker to stay hot
Raul (Philadelphia, Pa)
Hey Scott...Would you start Sheffler over Clark this week? Engram over Housh? Thanks your help can guarantee me a RING BABEE!!!!!
Scott Engel (3:31 PM)
I would start Scheffler, as I do not trust the Bears passing game at all, and Engram in PPR, Housh in standard scoring
Paul Columbus Ohio
Welker or B Marshall?
Scott Engel (3:32 PM)
Welker, especially as he faces his former team
Ben (Indy)
Alright for the Super Bowl, Clinton Portis or Kolby Smith?
Scott Engel (3:32 PM)
I will go with Smith, as Portis faces the very good Minnesota run D
Santa Claus
Ho! Ho! Ho! Have you been naughty or nice? Is playing Crosby in a very windy Chicago adviseable for a league that penalizes for missed FGs? HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Scott Engel (3:33 PM)
Santa, don't stress about kickers - just pick another if you are concerned
Kelvin (Dayton)
Since I doubt Peyton will play a lot this week, I'm stuck with either McNabb (less production, better matchup) or Brees (more production, worse matchup). Which one should I start?
Scott Engel (3:34 PM)
Brees is playing so well, I stick with him regardless of matchup
Jessica, In Hiding, TX
Scott, do you think my Tony gets the ball to Witten or should watch A. Gonzo or D. Mason??? PPR League
Scott Engel (3:35 PM)
Witten has played so well, and Romo may limit himself to a lot of short throws to his best possession guy, so stick with Witten
Phil (Detroit)
Do you still give Stecker the nod over Lynch if you are playing Brees?
Scott Engel (3:37 PM)
If you mean you are playing against Brees, it has absolutely no effect on the decision, and if you mean you also have Brees, I still play Stecker in both scenarios
The Rog-Dude (Bothell, WA)
You look like a pretty serious dude.
Scott Engel (3:39 PM)
I'm serious about fantasy football - I have to be. But it's not like I don't listen to Richard Pryor in my spare time
dave rochester
Cinci plays the 25 ranked pass defense cowboys play 20 romo has 35 td passes Anderson has 26 I think playing Anderson over Romo is bad advice that is my opinion. I'll bet you Romo has more fantasy points than Anderson huh wanna bet? PS I don't play in leagues with bed wetters I'm just giving my opinion like you are good luck big guy
Scott Engel (3:40 PM)
Good luck to you too Dave - but you can't base your decision on pure numbers when an injury is involved
Craig ( PA)
Scott, After what happened last year when the Colts rested players the last two weeks and came out very flat against Pittsburgh, why do you keep telling people to sit their Colts if they can? Dungy even said it himself, he doesn't want a repeat of last year.
Scott Engel (3:42 PM)
he also said he may give his younger guys a longer look - I am telling people to play it safe if they can - we cannot be assured of top Colts playing a full game- don't believe everything a coach says
Jason - Boston
Scott, How worried are you about Peyton playing? Only other options are Garcia or VY?
Scott Engel (3:44 PM)
It all depends on who your other options are - I don't expect much from Garcia and Young is up and down - I would take a half of Peyton over those guys
Tom (SoCal)
Scott, P.Crayton or Cotchery and Tenn or NYG Def?
Scott Engel (3:46 PM)
Cothery is more reliable than Crayton and I like the Giants ina msut-win game with strong winds and rain in the Weather Channel forecast
Mike (Denver)
Vikings D or the hot Tampa D?
Scott Engel (3:47 PM)
The Vikes have much more on the line and I would stick with them
Joel ( Roscommon MI)
I just dont see the need for the Cowboys to get cute against an offensively challenged team. Run the ball, play conservative and get the W. I appreciate your affirmation that Anderson is a better fantasy start.
Scott Engel (3:48 PM)
Thanks Joel - good luck this week
Sean (Desperate)
Branch or Welker and Giants or Charger D???
Scott Engel (3:49 PM)
Welker and the Giants, as I have already said based on the matchups
Jeff (Iowa)
An injured Romo at Carolina or Kitna at home in the dome?
Scott Engel (3:50 PM)
I'd rather take my chances with Romo than use Kitna this deep in thw fantasy playoffs
Tom, Pittsburgh, PA
Scott, Do you like A. Gonzalez or C. Henry over Branch this week? Happy Holidays!
Scott Engel (3:50 PM)
I would stick with Branch as Hasselbeck tries to bounce back after last week
Raul (Philadelphia, Pa)
Okay Scott, Tough questions Richard Pryor or Redd Foxx, Dallas Clark or Scheffler?
Scott Engel (3:52 PM)
Pryor for standup, Foxx for TV and movies - I would stick with Clark to possibly score in the first half
Craig, Queens,NY
Scott your photo gives off the perception you are hard but in the hood we would call you Mr. Softy
Scott Engel (3:55 PM)
I live in Queens and have never been called that - I get much respect - nice try :)
Jess (Philly)
Any concerns about palmer throwing in the high winds?
Scott Engel (3:56 PM)
Palmer has played in adverse conditions before and I like the matchup - not the best start, but a good one - wehn you take the conditions into account you must also consider the QB himself
Ryan Buckhead
Scott, start Hasselbeck or Garrard this weekend?
Scott Engel (3:57 PM)
I would go with Hasselbeck - I expect Jax to run a lot
Mark (Kearny, NJ)
Scott, does it make sense to bench the Tampa Bay D this week since I have Gore and Davis? My other option is Tennessee's D against the Jets.
Scott Engel (4:00 PM)
Benching the Tampa D will not make Gore and Davis play well - or vice versa - You can't control your outcome by benching one side if you have players that face each other - if the Niners don;t play well, you completely hurt yourself if you bench TB - if the Niners do well overall, you can still get INT sand fumbles - or they can balance each other out - use the Bucs
KC (NYC)
Scott, both guys dealing with weather/wind...who do u like? Plamer or Hass?
Scott Engel (4:02 PM)
Both are good starts - I slightly prefer Palmer, better matchup - but Hasselbeck won;t be traveling plus facing the wind like last week - he's at home in more familar conditions Thanks a lot everyone!
