Amy Nelson (9:26 AM)
Hey everyone we'll be starting the chat in about 30 minutes. I'll be taking your questions and thoughts for Your Take. If you want to send in your thoughts about who you think the best college football team is now, after yesterday's bowl games, or maybe talk about draft status of some of these guys (ie: Colt Brennan, McFadden, etc) or anything else, let me know.
Amy Nelson (9:26 AM)
And of course, I'm always open to hear anything you want to toss to Skip, or Jason Smith, ESPNRadio overnight host.
Amy Nelson (10:00 AM)
So we're ready to go today for the chat. Send me anything you guys want to talk about.
las vegas nevada
I think Colt Brenean is underrated. And Chase Daniel is overrated.
Korey (Philadelphia, PA)
Georgia's total manhandling of Hawaii showed what anyone with common sense knew, that Hawaii was overmatched from the start and that Colt Brennan is not as good as June Jones thought, he couldn't even lead them to a TD as the back-up did that! With that kind of performance Colt will be hard pressed to play like a stallion in the League.
Shayne Stuart (mount prospect, Illinois)
Hey amy, ask the skipper for me where colt brennan is going in the draft now? when he said top 3 pick, is he sure he didnt mean top 3 rounds?
Amy Nelson (10:01 AM)
Skip sure will take a hit on that this morning. How bout them bowl games yesterday?
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I'm going to chime in early Amy. I don't know who the best team in the nation is right now because the BCS title game has not been played. Georgia and USC both had their chances to be in that game but did not get the job done during the regular season. That said, USC should have played Georgia yesterday.
Amy Nelson (10:01 AM)
Awful games, all around, except of course for Michigan. Go Blue!
mike anchorage
The bowl selectors screwed up horribly this year, USC should have played UGA, and Hawaii should have played Missouri. Get rid of Illinois. The third best Big-Ten school did not deserve to be anywhere near close to a BCS bowl game.
Al Bryn Mawr, Pa
Well I guess all those people who thought Hawaii should be ranked #1 will shut up now !!
Mick (Marysville, MI)
Michigan came out with passion and finally learned how to cover the spread
Donald ((New Orleans))
I was at the Sugar Bowl last night and it was what i thought it would be but i still loved seeing Hawaii play
Amy Nelson (10:04 AM)
Donald, Why did you love seeing them play? THey were awful...
Chad Hill Weston,Mo
BCS The BCS stinks and you know it. Mizzou got robbed. lets see illinois lost and then hawaii wasn't even a game either. mizzou deserved to be in a bcs. look what they did in the cotton bowl. they easyily handed arkansas. mcfaden looked awful. what are your thoughts? thanks mizzou fan
Peter (Tulsa, OK)
The National Championship, Orange Bowl, and The Fiesta Bowl has yet to be played. But OU is probably the best.
Michael (Tikrit , IRAQ)
Everybody talkes about how great Tebow has been this year....granted he put up great numbers all season. but...everytime the game has ben on the line and he had a chance to win the game he didnt' ....any thoughts?
Amy Nelson (10:07 AM)
Michael, Seems that is often the case with Heisman winners. But the kid is still a sophomore and I havne't talked to scouts so I don't know their take, but let's not forget Henne throwing a huge INT yesterday late. Luckily, Michigan still pulled it out...
Brian (Jacksonville, FL)
It was cleare that Hawaii just beat up on really bad teams in the WAC. The moment they faced a SEC team, they were kicked around the field.
Darin (Ontario, CA)
Sure USC played well yesterday, but could they stack up in the championship? I think not!
john (eastland,tx.)
the rose bowl and sugar bowl were the crappiest bowl games i have ever witnessed on tv when is the bcs going to realize they need a playoff system
Dan (NYC)
The Wire in 4 days!!!
Amy Nelson (10:07 AM)
Dan, Yes!
Donald (New Orleans, La)
cause it was a different style of football to me i mean it wasnt there EXPLOSIVE offense we have heard so much about and it didnt live up to the hype but the players and want they brought to this city was awesome
Tedder (NC)
Does the bowl win for Michigan "fix" the loss to App. St. in the beginning of the season?
Amy Nelson (10:08 AM)
Tedder, I don't think that can ever be "fixed."
Danny(MA)
This is why I dislike college football. It is a mess. Lots of rah rah and not much sense. I can't wait for the NFL playoffs. PLAYOFFS?! Playoffs?! Yes college, playoffs.
Mikey (Brigantine, NJ)
I am really confused as to why these bowls still invite teams based on the way they finishish in their Conference. Bowls should invite teams that will make the best game. Almost EVERY game yesterday was embarrasing to watch except the Michigan/Florida game. Isn't there a better way to select the teams to play in these big bowl games?
William (Richmond, KY)
Hawaii deserved a spot in the bowl game, but Colt Brennan showed what he can do against a solid defense, which is why Tommy Chang is doing nothing in the pros.
Garrett (Portland, o)
Did Michigan get some respect for the Big 10 yesterday? Everybody new Illinois was WAY overmatched, but if OSU beats LSU, I think the Big 10 can get back respect it has lost lately.
Scott (Ann Arbor, MI)
Amy, as a Michigan man I would just like to extend one last thank you to Lloyd Carr. A true class act in a sport where the ego-maniac is slowly but surely taking over the head coaching position.
Jeff (Cincinnati)
I don't think an OSU win, coupled with Michigan's win, does anything for the Big-10 gaining respect. Michigan's win has nothing to do with the conference...outside of Michigan and OSU...no one deserved a bowl game.
William (Richmond, KY)
Garrett, Michigan played a very nice game against Florida and was able to withstand a late rally and come away with a big W, but Ohio State has no chance vs LSU. It's more of a mismatch than last year, when they got bukced up by Florida...and this year OSU isn't even the favorite!
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Listen, all it tells you was on that day, on that field Michigan beat Florida. Doesnt say a thing about the Big Ten, about Michigan's season, or Florida's season. The only thing it says is that Michigan beat Florida in that bowl game.
john (eastland,tx.)
how many people need to get upset at these crappy bowl games that being played for the bcs to realize"WE NEED A PLYOFF SYSTEM"
Mike (Lexington, KY)
With USC and UGA winning two lopsided BCS games yesterday, will the NCAA take a closer look at trying to secure more competetive matchups next season in the BCS instead of sticking with tradition?
Amy Nelson (10:15 AM)
Mike, Don;t think the NCAA will ever change anything...
Michael (Tikrit , IRAQ)
as much as I hate OSU, Tressels team always seem to pull it out when nobody thinks they can win.
Dave (West Lafayette, IN)
Can you please remind Skip that the Sugar Bowl had first pick at Georgia, not the Rose Bowl. Sure the Rose Bowl may have picked Illinois even if they could have picked Georgia, but it never even had the chance to do so
Shane (Iowa)
There goes Skip backtracking about Brennan. I don't remember him saying "if he had a good game" he would go 3rd overall. Skip, OWN UP!!
John (Ft. Bliss, TX)
Is anyone keeping track of the number of times Skip hits the desk??
Amy Nelson (10:16 AM)
John, It's reverberating in the studio...
Amy Nelson (10:20 AM)
Think McFadden dropped his draft status THAT much yesterday?
Mike (Charlotte)
McFadden will never be higher, top ten so I think he will go. Brennan may be the person who really slides in the draft and possibly not even get drafted
Mike (Atlanta)
Colt Brennan is a joke just like i thought GA totally overwhelmed Hawaii who by the way was overrated just like their quaterback
Three Rivers MI.
McFadden has no heart to play football for no one if you can't play for school pride you shouldn't play football at all
Amy Nelson (10:21 AM)
Three rivers, ouch, no heart?
Matt (Charlotte)
Now Skip is saying late first round / early second? C'mon Skip. Colt will be lucky to be a day one pick. He was exposed for what he is -- a system QB with a weak schedule.
Dan (Tampa)
I agree with Jason. I watched Stewart torch my defense on Monday so the need to move up to get McFadden isn't as big.
Alex (Houston)
I have a DVR and Skip did day Brennan would be a top 3 pick, but only if he had a good game!!! Also, is this the year that we will have another split title with USC winning the other half?
Amy Nelson (10:23 AM)
Alex, I don;t think so...
Joe(AR)
If you watch Adrian Peterson play in the NFL you will say no. This is a guy who Mel Kiper has said he liked better than Peterson last year. Any NFL team would love to get their hands on this kid
Mike (Atlanta)
McFadden is the best back in college footbal with plenty of heart his team just sucks no passing game ate all and he still produces
Drew
GO BLUE!!!! Had Michigan been healthy all year we would be playing for a Nat. Championship
STANLEY NEW JERSEY
I WATCH EVERY DAY I HATE SKIP BUT YESTERDAYS BOWL GAMES MADE HIM LOOK LIKE A GENIUS LOOKS LIKE SKIP MIGHT HAVE A GOOD YEAR MAYBE ILL START TO LIKE HIM
Jon (Phoenix, AZ)
Felix Jones willbe the better running back to come out of Arkansas
Amy Nelson (10:25 AM)
What do you guys think about the Browns situation? I thought it was intersting that there certainly seems to be a divide in the Browns locker room about Anderson vs. Quinn? You rarelty see players contraditcing themselves about such an important position...
Theo (Baltimore, MD)
I find it truly funny on how when Coach Brian Billick came to Baltimore he said knows QBs, but he cut Derek Anderson and now the team could really use him.
Ryan winslow Maine
The BCS is terrible! Colt Brennan shouldnt be judged on that game,he throw from his back! The SEC has proven why it is the best conference in college once again! Hawai'i had no chance!
Tom (toledo)
Is there any chance for Congress to get involved with NCAA to force a playoff system? They got the most "traditional" sport to finally change their steroid testing policy, I think it can change the only level of NCAA sports without playoffs.
Amy Nelson (10:25 AM)
Tom, If Congress gets involved I would be seriously disturbed. There's got to be a limit..
ryan (fayettteville)
i think colt brennen should have won the heismen he is a better QB that tebow
Kingdom (Unknown)
I think McFadden go atleast the top 10 but for Brennan he'll be late 2nd round
Justin (Vinita, Oklahoma)
Oklahoma is the best team in the country right now and if they win big and LSU wins they should get a share of the title. The way they played in the big 12 championship and how good mizzou is they are playing better than anyone in the country even USC.
Tom (Dallas)
No to the playoff. Will the debated continue when the 17th best and 18th best teams complain they didn't get in. How will it be decided who the teams are? There will be complaints about that. There is no good system, This year was weird but the BCS got it right.
buckeye steve -atlanta, ga
let's keep it real. it is obvious hawaii did not deserve to be in the game against georgia. but Ohio State had onlt lost one reg. season game in two years.!!! they are the best team and will prove it on monday.
Jeff (Cincinnati)
Hey Drew....were they not healthy against App. State?
Jay (Warner Robins, GA)
Georgia did not lose to any team near the likes of Stanford. USC deserves nothing, No. 1 my you know what!
Billy (El Reno,OK)
This is some of the worst BCS selections so far. This year the games are a joke to watch and will continue to be so. Forget tradition and lets play some matchups that will at least be competetive. I mean these games are even a joke on paper.
Anthony (Columbus, OH)
Everyone dogging on Illinois needs to stop, if you watched the game you know they were one fumble away from making it a game. Hawaii had no hope against Georgia. The bottom like is no one wants to play a non BCS conference team in a big bowl so get them out of there.
Nate B (Pierce, NE)
its an easy decision for me, Anderson is proven and Quinn isnt. Keep Anderson
Amy Nelson (10:27 AM)
I have a feeling some of Quinn's teammates don't like the fact that the kid already has national endorsements and he hasn't proven anything.
Mike (Atlanta)
Ohio St. will prove the same thing that they did last year that the SEC is the best conference
Michael (Tikrit, Iraq)
I think you shop him around and see if you can get a good bite...if not keep him around for another year...and let Quinn get another year holding a clipboard. Assuming ego's dont' get in the way..I think it would be the best thing for the Browns
Willstar Cleveland
Brady is the qb of the future (next year)!
Donald (New Orleans, La)
it does not look like anyone wants to talk about nothing else but college football what about that GREAT hockey game yesterday
Amy Nelson (10:28 AM)
Donald, Was going to get to that. Thought it was so cool. It's too bad (in a way) Buffalo couldn't win for its home crowd, but what a way for the game to end.
Chad (Savannah, GA)
WOW some guy from Oklahoma saying OU is the best team in the country, imagine that. The winner of the OSU/LSU game will be #1 in all polls...Get over it!!!
Craig (Carrollton, Texas)
I wouldnt be suprised to see USC be No.1 in one of the polls, they are the best team in the country
James (cleveland,oh)
the browns have know reson to trade anderson the offence is running smooth don't rock the boat
Tedder (Greensboro, NC)
Quinn is money in the bank to sponsors....good looking up-and-coming talent....he has charisma just like that 6-5 lazer rocket arm quarterback...like peyton manning maybe..
Jeff (Cincinnati)
There is no way you can move Anderson! In that conference...they will need two good qb's!
Amy Nelson (10:30 AM)
So Jeff, if you're from Cincy, got a problem with what Palmer said about the coaching staff?
Matt (So Dak)
While Anderson is a good QB, his supporting cast really blossomed this year. They should trade Anderson for some defense.
Bobby (nj)
You can argue that the OK and USC are the best teams in the country, but they did not win when they needed too.
AL (Bryn Mawr, Pa)
Tebow is one of those guys thats great in college but in my opinion he does'nt transfer well to the NFL. He's a glorified running back ands thatsa all he'll ever be !!
Joe (Bethlehem PA)
The bowl system is a joke! We need playoffs for a true champion! Plus get rid of temple, duke, baylor, indiana, kent and the rest of these GARBAGE teams. They have no business being in D1 football! They can't beat a bad D3 fb team. The bowl system nothing more than a money making scham!
Amy Nelson (10:31 AM)
It's always all about the money.
Amy Nelson (10:32 AM)
And by the way, I know a lot of people are writing in to say hockey, what is that? But I thought it was cool for the sport, wish they did more of that.
Barry B (Birmingham, AL)
I think Quinn would make great trade bait for the Browns. Put him out there and see what they can get. Maybe even a high draft pick.
Tim (Phx AZ)
You HAVE to stick with Anderson... How could you go to a QB that has not started a game when you have a guy that turned your team around?
DIMITRI (WASHINGTON DC)
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WOULD WANT TO TRADE HIM, HE JUST MADE THEM RESPECTABLE
Amy Nelson (10:33 AM)
Dimitri, Romeo Crenneal said he'd listen to offers; Anderson is a restricted free agent.
Matt (So Dak)
i disagree with joe, look at all of the parody thats going on - the "big dogs" aren't as good anymore. Who knows, maybe Duke will be in the BCS in a couple of years
Willstar (Cleveland)
Brady has the pedigree and more importantly, the Browns fans behind him!
Justin Sandusky, Ohio
Since the inception of the BCS, how many Heisman Trophy winners have won their BCS game?
Amy Nelson (10:33 AM)
Justin, I don't know but I'd love to see that stat...
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
This could be one of those one year wonders though with Anderson. I think you have to trade him while his value is high. Teams now have a whole offseason to study Anderson on tape, I think you have to see what you have in Quinn.
Chad (Savannah, GA)
Tebow still has one year, at least, of development left in college. Lets see what he does next year and then judge his NFL talent. He's got a great arm lets see if he can pass without that fake run gimmick he pulls at UF.
Justin (Oklahoma)
Chad, give me one reason why they aren't and one reasons Bradfor wasn't even mentioned for the heisman he had a great year up with the best of them.
seth (michigan)
I think that palmer is right! i think that there definitely needs to be a change in the coaching staff!
Jared (Bloomington)
to Joe in PA. Get rid of Duke, baylor, Indiana and Kent ??? You feel they would not beat a d-3 team? Thats an absurd comment. Indiana went to a bowl game this season in the big 10!! I am a Duke fan, and I saw them beat Northwestern who was competitive in te big 10. I dont think the teams are the problem with d-1a football. I feel that the only problem is the figure heads are too stuborn to change the system.
Shane (Iowa)
Amy, it's NOT Quinn's fault that these companies have more money than brains! Anyone in Quinn's position would take those endorsements.
Amy Nelson (10:35 AM)
Shane, I'm not saying Quinn shouldn't take the endorsements, I'm just saying I know that doesn't go well over with teammates when you haven't done anything.
Montez (Norfolk, VA)
The NBA definitely needs to take the NHL idea of playing games outside. I don't think it would be concrete though. I'm pretty sure the owners and some of the players won't agree to that because of injury risks.
Amy Nelson (10:35 AM)
Montez, Like playground style? Not sure I get the concept...
Zack (Macon, GA)
Jeff in Cincy, no they weren't, Hart didnt play in the second half with an ankly injury.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Look at what happened in Cincy. Jon Kitna was pretty good the year they drafted Palmer, however they made the decision to let Kitna go, and go with Palmer after he sat the whole year....seemed to have worked out well. Palmer is elite, Kitna is still just good. I think the same could happen with Quinn and Anderson.
Neal (Philly)
Matt Leinart won the national title the same year he won the Heisman. I think he's the only one.
Buckeye Steve Atl. Ga
I hope the Browns don't repeat their mistake of this year by getting rid or Anderson..we should have won one or two more games and he can do that next year. Also, The Ohio State Buckeyes will not repeat last years let down..One loss in two years- remember that SEC fans
Mike (Boston, MA)
The best team doesn't always win in March Madness, but everyone gets an equal shot. Fans deserve the same in college football.
Gregg Greenville, NC
Amy, You're a Mich fan. What's your take on how the hire with Fraudriguez was handled; not asking permission; not honoring the buyout; hiring him before the WVU bowl game? You lost a class act with Carr. Your thoughts on hire.
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
Gregg, Thought it was a tough situation because Michigan needed to make a hire for recruiting purposes, but thought Rodriguez not coaching his team was kind of lame. Nice way for Carr to go, happy to seem him go, though.
Craig (Carrollton, Texas)
Steve in Syracuse, Look at what Arizona was doing before Leinart got injured, that could be a possible idea to try if your the Browns.
Charlie (Kansas City)
Are people forgetting that Arkansas beat LSU? MU man-handled them. The only team that beat MU was a healthy OU. How do we know that MU is not the #2 team in the land? If KU whips VT then they would have to be #3 since the only team to defeat them was MU.
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
WOW I'm seeing this Chris Bosh All-Star campaign ad for the first time
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
Amazing...he's in a cowboy hat speaking with a Soutehrn accent with banjo music playing in the background. That is awesome.
Brian (Cleveland )
How about Michigan beating Flordia? Go Maze and Blue!
Amy Nelson (10:40 AM)
Nothing like a little Michigan proproganda today...
Jon (Phoenix, AZ)
Its true that it worked out well when the Bengals let Kitna go but it seemingly didn't do the same when the Chargers let Brees go.
Adam brooklyn
Carson Palmer is a baby, he needs to look at himself in the mirror, he stunk this year and he isa stat QB. He wavers when the game is on the line.
John (Baltimore,MD)
Very funny for Bosh! He better be in the All Star Game!
Kyle Fisher (Wareham, MA)
How bout those Patriots........
Amy Nelson (10:41 AM)
Kyle, THink people might be OD'd on the Patriots right now
Jared (Bloomington)
Bosh should spend less time working on youtube videos and more time on his jump shot. Maybe he could make the all star game based on performance then and not show.
Amy Nelson (10:42 AM)
Oh Jared, please! Have a sense of humor. Modern athletes rarely show their personalities anymore. We usually get recycled cliches, it's nice to see an athlete have some creativity and personality. And humor!
John (Baltimore,MD)
There are not two other better forwards in the East that are better than Bosh
Mike (Atlanta)
Bosh is top 10 power forwards in the league he just plays for toronto
Tim (Phx AZ)
I am going to go vote for him right now... If he wants to go that much (and he probably deserves to) I have to vote for him
Jeff (Cincinnati)
Adam, obviouslyyou never watched a Bengals game. Palmer spent most of the time this season on his back! No qb can thrive under that constant pressure
Matt (So Dak)
his website is down, apparantly people are watching first take
Jon (Phoenix, AZ)
I would take Palmer on my team any day.....fantasy team
Rafael (DC)
John from Baltimore - Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison say hello.
ryan (fayyeteville,TN)
yea creativity with no game bosh is a joke no self respecting NBA team should want him so i say trade him to the knicks
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
How about the Titans-Chargers rematch this Sunday. If that is not a physical game, I dont know what will be. Plus with the Titans nine point dogs, I think they will come out on fire on D and have pressure on Rivers all day.
Aaron(AR)
I think that Rodriguez did the right thing in leaving and not coaching the bowl game. I wish all coach's would do this who have accepted other jobs
Sean Smedziuk(TR)MI.
why hate on schools like indiana or kent st start on schools that play schools that aren't even in the same div as them and are in a New Year bowl game or a BCS game like OHIO ST.
RE: Justin Ohio (Florida)
How can you win a bowl game after the Heisman Eat-A-Thon banquet circuit the 30 days before the bowl game. Florida now knows how OSU and Troy Smith felt last year. Tebow didn't bring his A game!
Duvy (atlanta, Georgia)
Chris was born in TX and went to school in the ATL. Why bwouldn't he have a southern accent.
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
Duvy, This was exaggerated to the extreme ... awesome.
Tom (Keller)
as a buckeye fan rodrigues makes me nervous, yet Tressel is smarter than most so in teh end I think it will make the Big Ten better making them learn to defend the spread
Carl (Texas)
If the Chargers lose Sunday, they will be the laughing stock of the league again. The win should be easy for them.
Amy Nelson (10:46 AM)
Carl, Since when are NFL playoff games easy wins?
Craig (Carrollton, Texas)
A key to that Titans-Chargers game is if Albert Haynesworth plays or not
Devon ((South Carolina))
If the browns truly trade Anderson it would only prove that there's no loyalty in the league. The NFL stands for Not For Long. Its all about what have you done for me lately.
Jake (Erie, PA)
Everyone saying that the Browns can't get rid of Anderson. Did any of you see how the O-line perform this year, D.A. is not as good as some people think. Quinn is the man!
Buckeye Steve Atl. Ga
Aaron (AR). What!!! how can you say a coach is doing the right thing by leaving his team before a bowl game? that's crazy!! he commited to those kids and them to him..it's B.S to leave like that.
Nate B (Pierce, NE)
there is no such thing as an easy win in the playoffs Carl!! Not even for the patriots
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Carl how can you say that? The Titans and Chargers played an OT game just a few weeks ago, and the Titans could be one of the most under-talked about teams in the NFL?
Adam brooklyn
I watched the Bengals this year. how bout that Cards game he gave away,or his 2nd half meltdowns against Seattle, Buffalo and both Pittsburgh games. he evn stunk when they beat the Rams. he is one of those QB's that cant handle any type of pressure. Heis good but definitely not Elite.
Rick (Pittsburgh)
What a great hockey game yesterday between the Sabres & Penguins! As a huge football fan, I found it hard to break away from this game. Huge hits, fancy puck handling, spin moves, overtime, shoot outs, great goalie play, snow, ice, etc. Can't wait for a college playoff system to add a little more flair to the mxi of college football
Will McLean Duluth, MN
Was the NHL's Outdoor Winter Classic a success?
Amy Nelson (10:49 AM)
Will, 70,000 people seems like a success to me...
Danny(MA)
Is there anything more that Marv Lewis would have to do to be fired as Cinci Head Coach? Hold a team meeting at a strip bar? Murder someone? Anything?
Tim (Phx AZ)
How come nobody has mentioned the moto jump on NY Eve. That was AWESOME!!! The best part is actually that he nailed it the first time, then decided to go and do it again!
Amy Nelson (10:51 AM)
Tim, I didn't see it but my colleague from ESPN the Magazine, Alyssa Roenigk, covers the X games and I'm sure she was there ...talking to her it seems like when something like that happens it's one of the coolest things to witness.
seth (michigan)
I totally agree tim, the jumps were awesome! i can't believe he put his life on the line for a second time just to beat his own record!
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
The moto jump was just some idiot defying death. Not a sporting event at all.
Jeff (Cincinnati)
How can you fire Marvin Lewis? It's not his fault Cinti has no GM or quality scouts!!
Craig (Texas)
He made that jump look too easy
Amy Nelson (10:52 AM)
Too easy? He could have died...
Jon (Phoenix, AZ)
The moto jump was nice but people really watch to see if he crashes
Tim (Phx AZ)
The game was GREAT yesterday. Watching hockey in the snow is like football in the snow. Maybe not the greatest quality product, but the elements make the game.
Craig (Texas)
Jeff, your right Marv Lewis is a good coach, he just needs some better players.
mike from cincy
Carson is correct. Lewis has done a fine job but it appears he has done the most he can do here. Now we need someone to come in and hone what he started. Say bill cowher?
Justin Ohio
Anderson will stay a Brown, Quinn's contract in incentive laden. If he doesn't play, he doesn't get paid! Watch for Quinn to take over about week 10 next year. That is the BEST value to the Browns.
Craig (Texs)
Mike from cincy, Carson didnt mean that Marv lewis needed to be fired he meant the assistants.
Amy Nelson (10:58 AM)
Craig, I don't think that's necessarily true at all...the coaching staff includes Lewis.
Carl (Texas)
I got a feeling that the Browns are going to trade Anderson. There's a lack of above average QBs right now so selling him high seems like the thing to do (even though I don't think it's smart).
Craig (Wentzville, MO)
To you Cincy fans. I'll trade you Scott Linehan and Marc Bulger for Marv Lewis and Carson Palmer?
Jeff (Cincinnati)
Craig...no thanks!
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
If Brady Quinn is the starting QB for the Browns in 2008, be prepared for a return to mediocrity. Not since Joe Montana has ND produced a worthwhile NFL QB.
Jake (Erie, PA)
No way Justin! this year was exactly what the browns wanted for their rookie QB. The success rate is so much better when you don't throw the qb in from day 1. If Anderson stays Quinn will still beat him out in camp!
Jared (Bloomington)
I feel bad for the Jets fans. If they would have just lost last weekend to the Chiefs they had the 3rd overall pick in the draft. Instead they won, and now they get the 6th pick! The Chiefs even moved ahead of them! Poor Jets fans!
Terry (Cookeville, TN)
I think Anderson is a one hit wonder. Someone will overpay to get him. Cleveland needs to trade him and make Quinn the starter.
Jeff (Cincinnati)
Those outside of Cinti don't understand that the owner, Mike Brown, is content with his product. He made a promise to his dad never to allow anyone else run the football operations...that promise has hurt the Bengals over the last several years.
Nate B (Pierce, NE)
Hey Cincy fans, We just threw former Super Bowl coach Bill Callahan to the curb. You can have him. HAHA
Amy Nelson (11:04 AM)
Anyone think USC shuold be a national title holder?
Craig (Texs)
USC is the best team in the Country, as much as i hate to say it
Brady (Colorado)
Heck no. My Tigers and your Bucks deserve to be there. Hi Amy!
Arthur (Houston)
Stanford
Denny (St.Louis)
USC is good but lets not get overly excited after all they played the 3rd best team in the overrated big ten
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
No, because the fact of the matter is that the regular season counts in college football with the current system. And under the current system, Ohio State and LSU had the most outstanding regular season, USC had a bump in the road when they had injuries on the team, and lost a few games.
Jeff (Cincinnati)
Amy...no. We are forced to live with this messed up system...so any talk outside of LSU and OSU is fodder for the cow!!
Tim (Detroit)
Amy, USC lost to Stanford this year, no way they should get a share of the title. That should go to the team that was the best for the year, not the best for the last 5 games. Even by that standard, Georgia has a better argument than USC.
Ryan(Maine)
Skip is out of his mind! Tebow is nasty! It wasnt him it was the Defense! Florida's D didnt show up! Plus he is a Sophmore!!!
Adam (Miami, FL)
Georgia>USC
mike from cincinnati
USC should be in the playoffs. Thats right there are no playoffs.
dave (va)
i thought ohio state lost to the illinois team the lost to usc... doesnt that mean that usc is better than ohio state?
John (Baltimore,MD)
The Bengals personnel is terrible. The chemistry is terrible. They need to get someone who has an idea of the type of players to draft
Jon (Phoenix, AZ)
Does Marv Lewis not select his players? The fact is the team valued talent over character. Now they pay the price
Dominic (New Mexico)
Marvin Lewis needs a GM no doubt. There is no stability with who they draft or trade for and they seem to end up making these dumb decisions on the talent or lack there of.
Sean (Arlington, vA)
You can fire Lewis because on his watch the team has become a mess. There is no discipline the defense has become worse and the offense under performs. He is the Head Coach.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Speaking of USC, does anyone else find the celebrations as classless as I did? When you know the rule and you still do the flip, I consider that classless. The only celebration that I can accept was the one for the sixth year player.
Ryan(Maine)
USC and Georgia should split! Who cares about LSU and Ohio St.? Niether of them could beat USC or Georgia!
Jeff (Cincinnati)
Jon...no. Marvin has input, but Mike Brown makes the decisions regarding player personnel.
(11:17 AM)
I'm still sour on anyone who thinks what Chris Bosh did for his all-star campaign was a bad thing. Nice to see athletes have personality...
Nate B (Pierce, NE)
What about OKLAHOMA?? or even Missouri. USC and Georgia arent that impressive
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
Personality is GREAT! In my oppinion it will fire up his teamates to ensure he gets in there. It is nice to see players be REAL and not be these figureheads whom are obviously just saying what the public wants to hear.
mike from cincy
See Dave you can carry those things out so any team that beat Stanford is better than USC by that means of thinking.
Willstar (Cleveland)
Bosh should have spent some money on a better camera.
Shane (Iowa)
Amy, he may have personality, but he should be voted to the All-Star game for his "PLAY", not personality. It's begging for a spot and it's pathetically wrong. Once he's voted in based on his "play", then he can do whatever his "personality" wants to.
Amy Nelson (11:23 AM)
Shane, Obviously, but can't we appreciate the effort?
Joe O, Colonia, NJ
Gee, I thought Bosh was going to get voted in for his ESPN RV commercial. Did ESPN help him film his all star "plea"?
Amy Nelson (11:31 AM)
Joe, No you have to see it.
Donald (New Orleans, La)
i just voted for him so his ad is working
Amy Nelson (11:32 AM)
Anyoen else think that hockey game was kind of cool the other day? Or does no one care?
Amir, Cincinnati
Will someone inform the First and Ten crew how awful the Bengals were before Marvin Lewis? Mike Brown is a joke of GM and everyone in Cincinnati was calling for his head before Marvin showed up and at least gave the city some relevance. The Bengals need to avoid the arrogance that cost places like U of Nebraska who consider themselves great and then realized that the coach they had was the best one for them.
Jake (Coatesville, PA)
I think the Steelers are in trouble... it is hard to beat a team twice but the Jags are hot
Pon (Jax, FL)
Hockey is great outdoor, but mostly its because its up in the northern part of the US.
Nick (Eugene, OR)
I don't care about hockey
Nate B (Pierce, NE)
I give the NHL props for trying something, and I think the game was cool. But the league is still "not great", to put it a good way.
Buddy (Texas)
it was cool....but don,t care, maybe if they played them all outside....
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
I just think it was a gimmick. If there were more games played outside, or a team with an outside stadium, you have my attention. However, once a year, meh, it just doesnt seem like a big deal to me. Football games are played in the snow all fall/winter...not to mention the rain, wind etc. One hockey game in the outdoors, a game that is tailored for the outside in winter, doesnt seem like a big deal.
Jeff(Chicago)
All hockey games should be played like that. It's how you grow up playing!!
Tom (Chicago)
I flipped to the hockey game during commercials, and I thought it was pretty sweet. I think the NHL made a mistake scheduling it so early. It was hard to see the puck until it got a little darker. The Michigan-MSU game was still better (I went to that one).
chauncey (teaneck)
no one cares about hockey in general.
Amy Nelson (11:35 AM)
I guess Mike Martz was just fired...
Cameron (Jacksonville)
I am not a hockey fan and have only been to 1 profesional game, but the game was cool and I tuned in to watch it due to it's natural appeal. It was exciting if you did tune in ... I was impressed.
Steve, Logan Ohio
Hockey? Who cares. Go Bucks!!!!
Tim(FL)
I'm not much of a hockey fan but that was really cool.I'd go to that.
Caleb (Macon, GA)
The hockey game was great! Certainly a nice change from the indoor arena. I had no idea 70,000 people would turn out for it- truly a new sight. Maybe that's me being from the South, though.
Amy Nelson (11:37 AM)
We have less than a half hour here guys. Topics we'll be discussing are Chris Bosh video, hockey game...oh yeah, and my all-time favorite show, The Wire, season premiere on Sunday night. Yesssss...
Cedrique (Bemidji, MN)
The hockey game was very exciting, and it was nice to see those players feeling like kids again. And what better way to see it end than with Sid the Kid scoring the game-winning goal in the shootout. I loved it!!
Amy Nelson (11:37 AM)
See, there are some people who care about hockey...
Layne (USA)
I'm not a hockey fan either but that game was awesome
dave: (yarmouth, Ma)
I thought the game was awasome, it is how every kid grew up playing hockey on the ponds or bogs out side, this was taken out of the pages of mystery alaska
Dmitriy Brooklyn NY
I think the hockey was totoally amazing because i myself am a huge hockey fan so this was a great event to get other people into watching this great sport.
Josh (Pittsburgh)
The hockey game was awesome Amy. I have never been so happy to subject myself to frostbite.
Neal (New Britain, CT)
Anyone who votes for Bosh over KG and LeBron at the forward spots must not have taken their medicine today...
John (Baltimore, MD)
The Wire is the best show on TV. ..'Omar is coming'!!!!
Amy Nelson (11:39 AM)
Regular visitors to this chat shuold know by now that Omar is by far my favortie character...
Josh (Pittsburgh)
Nate B the league is in great shape, what's wrong? Their revenues are up, their ratings are high, and attendance is great. Just because ESPN chooses to forget it doesn't mean it is in bad shape.
Pon (Jax, FL)
I am a hockey fan, Hurricanes, but for most of the Floridian to watch the game, put Tim Tebow in the game and you will have 1/2 of the state travel to see the game even if its in north of NY.
Mike (Boston)
The Wire is the regularly one of the best dramas and shows on TV. PERIOD. Its only a shame not even people watch it because its on HBO, and its still vastly underrated and looked over by critics. Let's wish a successful fifth season to The Wire!
Amy Nelson (11:40 AM)
Mike, Critics actually are very supportive...
Mark (Virginia)
i guess i wont see my post so this show sucks!
Amy Nelson (11:41 AM)
Mark, Say something interesting or smart and maybe you will...we've got hundreds of comments coming in..
fitz (dc)
my new years resolution: start watching the wire...i've been told by too many people that i need to see it
Melissa (Tampa FL)
I saw a few comments on the SABRES vs PENGUINS game already, but: Do you think that NHL & NBC pulled off a good thing? OK, I questioned NHL's idea of a game during College Bowl season, & by this page, I feel sadly I'm right. Hockey is popular, but was the impact really felt? There are stories about it fm Bankok to Europe; & Australians in the stands...how come the US TV only shows football? Its not the only US sport!
mike from cincy
To josh, how many sellouts have there been in the NHL. Whenever they show a game they got alot of fans posing as empty seats.
Bob Tallmadge, OH
In this day and age of self promotion, Chris Bosh is a breth of fresh air!
Cameron (Jacksonville)
GooD that Mike Martz was fired! Now he can go to Baltimore, without having to find a reason to leave Detroit (he comes out of this like the good guy), and turn that franchise around; he is the perfect fit for that team.
Steve (Syracuse, NY)
The fact that Bosh has us talking about it shows that it was a smart move. Would we even be talking NBA, not to mention Bosh had he not done this today?
Nate B (Pierce, NE)
I love the Bosh video. It was funny and it shows that even tho hes a superstar, he can have a lil fun, and not the time that gets anyone in trouble.
Joe O, Colonia, NJ
Amy, which will you watch...The Wire...or the Super Bowl?
Amy Nelson (11:45 AM)
Joe, The Wire can be dvr'd, not really cool with the super bowl
Amy Nelson (11:45 AM)
Joe, The Wire can be dvr'd, not really cool with the super bowl
Tom (Chicago)
Before I go I just wanted to say that my favorite moment of yesterday was doing the Gator chomp with my other Michigan friends at ESPN Zone in Chicago yesterday after hearing the endless trash talk from Gators fans.
Dominic (New Mexico)
You have to give Chris Bosh credit, who else in the NBA would do something like this???
Clinton (Washington, DC)
The Wire is great! It's real, well written and the actors are passionate for those reasons!! Unfortunately, most people don't care about what's happening in B'more, can't imagine it's real so don't get into it, etc.
Josh (Pittsburgh)
Melissa, it's not on TV because the NHL does not have a good national TV contract for exposure. And it's hard to see NHL highlights on TV because we all rely on ESPN and they don't have a deal with the NHL, so they don't show the highlights... it's business and they can do that, but that is why.
Cedrique (Bemidji, MN)
I love what Bosh is trying to do, and this will probably get him into the All-Star game, but look at the numbers. He is averaging 20 and 9 for a 17-15 squad. KG is averaging 18.8 and 10.5 for a team with only three losses, and LeBron is averaging 29, 7.2 and 7.6. I agree with Skip, Bosh shouldn't be an All-Star and I wish the fan voting only accounted for 1/3 of the teams.
Kate (Boston)
I don't know how smart or interesting this is, but I don't care about hockey. But since apparently everyone is sick of the Patriots, I can't think of anything else to say.
Ray, Plano TX
Yes, the hockey game played outdoors was cool. I think the NBA should make their regular season games more interesting by playing them underwater!
Mick (Marysville, MI)
The Hockey game was horrible, the ice was a mess and thats not how hockey should be played, the NHL should be ashamed
dj (missouri)
i have to say i hadnt watched hockey since the strike but i did find myself watching a little bit. it was just neat to see the game effected by the elements outside
Amy Nelson (11:57 AM)
Thanks everyone for the caht today I won't be back next week because I'll be on vacation. Two weeks fronm today and enjoy the Wire!
