Super Bowl week daily chats: Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Friday
Buzzmaster (10:48 AM)
Tony Dorsett is on his way over!
Buzzmaster (10:57 AM)
What's going on SportsNation!? We just finished up the morning chat and now we're waiting for Mr. TD himself to come on over.
BJ Carmel, NY
Im fast Buzz, got to the MB to this chat room in a milisecond...
BJ Carmel, NY
Whats up Tony? Buzz has you in his phone as "Dorsett", You should put him in as "Pop Tart/Chat Guy"...
Michael (Portland, ME)
Don't forget to put out the plate of steaks!
Steve (NJ)
Hey there, early wrap! And after I booed and hissed, too!
Buzzmaster (10:58 AM)
Yeah, you're booing and hissing and yet you're still here.
RAY GORDON REID ( SCOTTSDALE ARIZONA 35257)
COMMENT NUMBER. AT 11.05 AM BEST SUPER BOWL QB;S BRASHAW MONTANA BRADY
Dave(vt)
New chat, same ol' buzzmaster.
Sean (Philly)
Apparently I can't multitask. I didn't pay attentoin to the conference call or the chat. Should have taken out the gum...
Steve (NJ)
Considering the chat jumped automatically, I had no choice. I also like Tony Dorsett a lot. Class act.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
We got no place else to go!
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
I don't mind ending the MB chat early for one of my childhood heroes.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Tony, what stadium did you enjoy playing in the most?
Tony Dorsett (11:02 AM)
Texas Stadium, in front of my own home fans.
Joe (Marion (NY))
long time fan of you and the cowboys when you played. Has the super bowl atmosphere changed since you last played
Tony Dorsett (11:03 AM)
It's just gotten bigger. More media. That makes it more of a worldwide extravaganza than when I was playing.
Zach (Not Bristol)
How happy were you when Pitt upset WVU this season? Any special memories from that series when you were playing?
Tony Dorsett (11:04 AM)
VERY! Very, very very. I told my wife, she's from LSU, that there's still a chance they could get into the BCS championship because Pitt could throw a wrench into thing.s
cory (boston)
Tony, which player hit you the hardest?
Tony Dorsett (11:05 AM)
Ooooh. Let me see. I would say a guy Charlie Davis, from the Cardinals. I considered myself negotiating defenders. I was running the ball down the sideline and I ran out of negotiation space and I got hit.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Tony, is it true that the Cowboys only had 10 men on the field when you broke loose for your 99 yard TD run against Minnesota?
Tony Dorsett (11:05 AM)
That is very true. If anyone every ties this record, I will always have one up on him, we only had 10 on the field.
Keith (MD)
Tony, you're a class act. When you did the 99 yard run, how bad were your legs hurting at the end of the run?
Tony Dorsett (11:06 AM)
Not at all. The only thing I was looking for was oxygen. The legs were fine, but I was exhausted. I went and put the oxygen mask on.
Craig
Okay, I don't care who you think is going to win; I want to know who you want to win? (as a former Cowboy I am guessing it cannot be the Gmen)
Tony Dorsett (11:07 AM)
I want the New York Giants to win this game. Period. The end. And they will, trust me. But don't bet the ranch on it.
Tim (Providence)
Tony, what is one piece of advice you would give a player playing in his first Super Bowl game?
Tony Dorsett (11:07 AM)
To stay relaxed. You come out there, it's going to be wow. That stage is the biggest stage you can enter into. Be calm, stay within yourself.
Eddie (New York)
What are your thoughts on the two-back systems that have become very popular in the league? Does this mark the death of the full back?
Tony Dorsett (11:08 AM)
I'm not a big supporter of the two-back system. As a runner, you get a better feel of what's going on if you're out there all the time. You look at the Giants, they got to the Super Bowl with a two-back system. You become more productive if you're on the field for a longer time.
Buzzmaster (11:09 AM)
Tony, what have you been doing out in Phoenix?
Tony Dorsett (11:10 AM)
I'm here doing some promotions for the Can-AM Spyder Roadster. The next dimensions of open road riding. It has two close wheels in the front and two wider in the box. It has the VSS in it - vehicle stability system. It makes it hard to turn over. If one of the wheels come up, it balances itself out. It has the trunk up front.
Tony Dorsett (11:11 AM)
It has the reverse feature. It's the combo of car and motorcycle. This thing is pretty fast. It goes from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. The top speed is 110 MPH. It's a balance of performance and piece of mind. Even a novice rider can control this thing. It's a great vehicle. It has that "wow" effect.
Tony Dorsett (11:12 AM)
If you want to find out more about it - go to BRP.com to get more information about it.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
How did you get involved in the Roadster?
Tony Dorsett (11:12 AM)
Actually, through Taylor Communications in New York. They do all the PR for the Roadster. Somehow or another, I became the lucky one.
Mike(Charlotte)
Hey Tony, Sad Story with Ron Springs, Have you seen him or heard how he has been doing lately?
Tony Dorsett (11:13 AM)
A little bit of both. I've seen and heard. It's a tragedy. It's hard for me to see him, he's not responding to anything. I pray and cry when I go over there. I pray for the Lord to do his blessings. It's a sad scenario.
Jared (NYC)
How do you feel about the New England line's dirty play? You think they're just like everyone else, or actually dirtier than the average line?
Tony Dorsett (11:14 AM)
I haven't heard much about it. But let me tell you, I'd be surprised if there's a whole lot of dirty play going on. The refs have that under control. When I first came into the league, there was a lot more dirty play. I don't put too much into it. If they're dirty, they're going to get dirty back.
Karl
Hey Tony, what is your best Super Bowl memory?
Tony Dorsett (11:15 AM)
I've got a couple of them. First of all, being a rookie and scoring the first TD in SB XII, I'll never forget it. Not only scoring the first TD, but winning the game. You get to the big dance, you want to win the game. If you don't, a year from that game, no one will remember who the loser was, only the winner.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Tony, what do you consider to be your greatest professional career accomplishment?
Tony Dorsett (11:16 AM)
I would say being immortalized by being inducted into the Pro Football HOF. My grandchildren's children can come by and see what I did as a young man. That's the icing on the cake.
Tony Dorsett (11:17 AM)
Thank all the fans for chatting with me. After being so far removed from the game and having fans know what Tony Dorsett did, I thank them. Thank them all.
Buzzmaster (11:18 AM)
Thanks Tony!
Mike(Charlotte)
Buzz, how did he look? I bet he could still suit up and gain 1,000 yards.
Buzzmaster (11:20 AM)
Ummmm, yes, definitely. He said I typed fast, but I told him, he could still outrun me for sure.
Joe (Marion (NY))
First timer to all of this 2 THUMBS UP
Dave(vt)
Buzz is giddy he got to ask a question.
Captain Ron
How can anyone forget Tony Dorsett. He was a monster in college and on the pro scene
Jack (S.F. Austin University)
What player in the NFL right now do you look at and say I could do that. That looks like me!
Buzz (AZ)
Tony Dorsett was here! with me! He touched my keyboard!
Paul (Ft Worth)
Buzz was Tony's fullback on the Roadster promo. Gotta admit, it looks pretty sweet.
Batch (Boston)
Buzz, WEEI boston sports radio is interviewing Frank Caliendo; I just heard a conversation between Charles Barkley, Bill Walton and George Bush
Atlanta Ga
I love tony dorsett
Buzzmaster (11:23 AM)
He's a cool dude, I tell you that.
Dave(vt)
Do you have all your guests sign you keyboard or soemthing buzz?
ELO-ORLANDO
Growing up in TX, Tony was all my mother talked about when I was a kid.
Chris (Newton)
No, he collects a lock of everyone's hair
Captain Ron
Buzz did you ask for Tony's autograph?
Buzzmaster (11:26 AM)
I couldn't get past my Chris Farley moment to do that
Jae (NY,NY)
Cant wait for the Pats to smack around the G-men. I cant believe anyone actually thinks this game will be close.
JD (MA)
Anyone else coming on?
Buzzmaster (11:27 AM)
We should have Marcellus Wiley coming up in a few minutes.
harry (arcadia)
hey buzz who you think better emmitt or tony
Buzzmaster (11:27 AM)
Well, Tony just did a chat with us, so Tony.
Brad (Cleveland)
That's what everyone said about the Rams-Patriots Super Bowl Jae .. and what happened there?
Chris (Detroit)
Imagine how impressed Tony with be with your typing skills if you weren't hungover.
Jimbo Slice (NC)
Buzz, do you think Tony watches LOST?
Ben (Jackson)
Dat Dude!
Buzzmaster (11:29 AM)
Yeah, so start getting your questions in for my boy.
Buzzmaster (11:29 AM)
And yes, I feel comfortable in calling him my boy.
Wayde (Washington DC)
Brad, Two words: Mike Martz.
Jack(NB Canada)
Rickey Henderson was better Buzz.
Buzzmaster (11:29 AM)
At football? I don't think so.
Buzzmaster (11:30 AM)
I just got the call...Dat Dude in 10 minutes!
Ben (Jackson)
Buzz, tell Dat Dude that Seinfeld was overrated...but do some stretching first, you may have to run away.
cory (boston)
The parallels to the Rams-Pats super bowl are almost eerie enough to get me worried, but the Giants are talking way too much smack to be the loveable underdogs
Buzzmaster (11:31 AM)
Get those questions in for Marcellus. Do it. Do it. Do it NOW!
Steve (NJ)
Can we get Terry Tate? He's my hero.
Brad (Cleveland)
Wayde, at least you didn't say Tom Brady. I agree with you completely on that one.
Chris (Detroit)
Ahhhhh...remembering the days the Pats were lovable.....
Mike(Charlotte)
Buzz, you need to try and get Boo Weekley to do a chat
Ben (Jackson)
Everyone's on Plax's case but Tom Brady's "Well I guess they just want to keep it close" comment gets swept under the rug.
JD (MA)
Hey Chris, just like today's Lions.
Steve (NJ)
The Pats weren't even lovable in 1985. They might've been, except they did that stupid song which made the Superbowl Shuffle that much better by comparison.
Xander (Philly)
I really hope that Brady has like some weird foot fungus or something...no one should have that much going for them with no downfall. Maybe he's Satan??
cory (boston)
come on, what are you waiting for!
Buzzmaster (11:34 AM)
Yeah, just do it!
Brendan (Boston)
Hey Buzz, hear that sounds like jealousy.
Craig (NY,NY)
I just don't understand why teams keep coming out in the media and guaranteeing victory over the Pats . . . keep your mouth shut and bring it on Sunday.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Trying to think of a question for Dat Dude but can only think of beef products grilled to perfection. I need lunch!
Wayde (Washington DC)
I know you guys hate us now, but just imagine next year when we have Moss, Welker, AND Chad Johnson!
Brad (Cleveland)
Is the Pats' Oline keeping Marcellus from getting to this chat on time? This is riduculous!
Buzzmaster (11:37 AM)
Dude, I said 10 minutes. It's been about 5.
Shawn (orlando)
How do I email first take?
Buzzmaster (11:37 AM)
FirstTake@espn.com? I think.
cory (boston)
Brady's downfall is that he's tall, and handsome, and rich.....(blushing) yup, just igged out myself
Dave(vt)
Pet pevee #4, when a fan refers to their favorite team as "we" or "us".
Justin (Ohio)
Oh Brad just go away.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Wayde, don't forget that the Pats will probably end up with Adrian Peterson as well.
Chris (Detroit)
I think Marcellus is just taking advantage of the comped meals.
Buzzmaster (11:39 AM)
Well, that's why we are all down here, no?
Josh (Asheville, NC)
Any of the past Super Bowl MVPs in town for the game? If so, can ya get Hines in? I need to find out how things are going between him & Ben. Thanks.
Eric Chicago - To Dave (VT)
It's like they own the team or something or have played for them!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Please excuse Brad from Cleveland. He's been waiting for a champion to emerge for a long time.
Jordan (Peoria)
Buzz's email...poptartnothingness@espn.com
BIG RYAN (AUSTIN TX)
YO! WHAT UP GUYS! WHY IS SKIP SUCH A HATER! SO WHATS THE DEAL WITH PLAX TAKIN SO MUCH FLACK FROM SKIP! WAS HE SUPPOSED TO SAY THEY ARN'T GOMMA WIN! I KNOW IF I WAS ON PLAX'S TEAM I WOULD HAVE HIS BACK!
Buzzmaster (11:40 AM)
1) stop yelling at me. 2) Skip will be on to chat at 5 p.m. ET, so be sure to stop on by.
Brad (Cleveland)
Hey...can't a man want to chat with Dat Dude? What's wrong with that?
Buzzmaster (11:40 AM)
Nothing wrong with wanting to chat with my man. But there's everything wrong with complaining that he's not here yet.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
But if you buy tickets and merchandise related to the team, aren't you helping to pay the players' salaries so, in effect, aren't you kind of like an owner?
Steve (NJ)
Buzz, admit it, you posted Big Ryan for the laugh value. And, as such: mission accomplished.
Ben (Jackson)
People that refer to we or us in regards to their favorite team are typically really big fans. Doesn't bother me at all.
Justin (Ohio)
Marcellus is my favorite new hirer at ESPN.
Mike(Charlotte)
When are you flying back to Bristol?
Buzzmaster (11:42 AM)
That sounds like too much of a personal question and creepy at the same time.
Jack (NB Canada)
I picture BIG RYAN as a 350 lb lineman eating a steak!
Justin (Ohio)
Buzzy, how funny was the Kenny Mayne piece on Brady's injured shoulder?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Wanting to chat: No problem. Whining to Chat: See Ryan from San Diego.
Jason (Eat Lansing)
Quite Frankly it is ridiculous how you keep shutting out my comments. What if I offered you a Cheese Doodle?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Hey Buzz, tell Dat Dude I said hi and to keep up the good work. Just got the call from the boss for lunch. You always go to lunch with the boss when he asks.
Brad (Cleveland)
It was more just anticipation and excitement, not complaining. Like someone saying "why do we have to wait 2 weeks for the Super Bowl?" I just get so impatient. Like J.B. said, not having a championship since 1964 will do that to a person.
Steve (NJ)
My girlfriend wants the Superbowl to move to a Saturday. This sort of scandalous thinking worries me. Luckily, I explained it's 'Superbowl SUNDAY' and she said, 'Oh, I understand.'
Eric (Chicago)
Or a world series since 1908 will drive someone to the brink of Arkham Asylum!
tom* (parkville, md)
Brad, Cleveland with have a champion within seven or eight dog years.
Steve ( Boston )
Can't wait to talk Tiki out of retirement next year. He could be our side line reporter for the 2nd halves of games.
Justin (Ohio)
Whats wrong Buzz, did RGR finally find you?
Buzzmaster (11:46 AM)
No. No one can find me here. I even had to go out to the street to greet TD and his peeps.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Jason is eating Lansing? Or just a bad speller or typer.
Big Al (The Chi)
So does Skip bayless have any friends at ESPN or does everyone there hate him like the rest of the world?
Buzzmaster (11:46 AM)
Skip's got plenty of friends. Buzz is a fan. Buzz likes Skip and Skip likes Buzz.
Brad (Cleveland)
Everyone is ganging up on me! I feel like Eli Manning before every start in the NFL, including all three playoffs this season.
Mike(Charlotte)
I was just wondering if you are staying for the Super Bowl or not
Buzzmaster (11:47 AM)
Oh, OK. Yes, I will be here through the Super Bowl.
Buzzmaster (11:48 AM)
We've got Marcellus!
Luke (Madison, WI)
Marcellus, with the giants becoming a popular upset pick, does that give any extra motivation to the pats?
Marcellus Wiley (11:50 AM)
No, I don't think so. When you're playing against a team, there's always a favorite, beyond the Vegas odds. The players make their own odds. They know they're the favorites and the Giants are the underdogs. The only thing that can make that change are the players. You get no motivation out of it. If anything it gets your attention during the week.
Brian (NY, NY)
Dat Dude! What are the keys to a win for the Giants?
Marcellus Wiley (11:51 AM)
Pressure with their front four. Running game well into the second half. Playing fearless. Probably the most important one is playing fearless. Taking calculated risks and flying around. If that occurs, the Giants could win.
Justin (Ohio)
Marcellus, aren't you just ready for this game to over with? Two weeks of hype is one week too many.
Marcellus Wiley (11:52 AM)
No, I love the hype, man. It builds up the excitement. This is our Oscars, the Olympics. We need the hype. I enjoy the two weeks. I enjoy the speculation, the fantasy talk. The guys know the stage they're stepping. I'm not impatient.
Jason (New Orleans)
Marcellus, when are you coming back to the NFL?
Marcellus Wiley (11:53 AM)
If you were holding your breath, it's time to exhale. Never!
Marcellus Wiley (11:53 AM)
I played football since I was 7 that's enough. I retired at 32 and I thanked God for every play I was out there. I look forward to my new career.
charles (jonesboro,ar)
how do u enjoy being an analysist
Marcellus Wiley (11:54 AM)
It's great. To have the chance to articulate what went on in the lockerroom and playing field. To cross the field between fans and players - that's my job to give imformative opinions on the game. I love it. I'm definitely going to persue it. I guess I'll take the unique perspective and make sure I represent the athletes to the fullest.
Brad (Cleveland)
If you were playing against the Pats' Oline, how would you to beat them? Do you think Strahan and Osi can get to Brady?
Marcellus Wiley (11:56 AM)
You've got to win the one-on-one matchups. They struggle at times with speed rushers. It is a Great Wall of China in front of Tom Brady at times. They gel. They're able to make that wall and make that wall of protection. You don't want to get into too many blitzes. The Patriots will make you pay.
Isaac (Colorado)
As of right now, what is your prediction of the outcome of the Superbowl?
Marcellus Wiley (11:57 AM)
I predict the Patriots will win 38-13. I think it will get a little out of hand. I think it will be close early. Belichick will be the 12th man on the field that he usually is. They'll make the adjustments as they usually do.
Marcellus Wiley (11:57 AM)
All I want to watch is the commercials, this game is over.
Jake (Denver)
Don't the Giants need Brady to have a REALLY sub par game? Even with pressure, it seems that Welker or Faulk is always there to take the short gain.
Marcellus Wiley (11:59 AM)
It is tough. It helps to have Brady have a bad game, but you don't plan for that to happen. You have to go out and stick to your gameplan. If Brady's having a bad game, he can dump it down to Moss, Welker, Faulk. Man he's got a lot of weapons!
Chris (Detroit)
Do you tivo the game so you can watch the commercials? Seriously, for those of us without credentials, hookups and jobs, thats what it is really about.
Marcellus Wiley (11:59 AM)
You know that's a smart idea! It's funny when the game is on and the commercials come on, you don't want to get up. Everyone watches it and reacts to different parts. People are laughing at different parts and you miss other parts.
Jake (Denver)
Which Randy do we see this Sunday? Playoff Moss or the guy who burned the G-Men for 100 and 2 TD's?
Marcellus Wiley (12:01 PM)
If you're the Patriots, you hope the latter. The playoffs Moss has been teams trying to take him out of the gameplan. The Moss effect is if he's getting covered, other receivers need to step up. It's not just Moss, the attention on the field creates damage to the other team.
Kevin (Appleton, WI)
Do you think Michael Strahan is one of the best defensive ends of alltime? Who are the up and coming players at that position.
Marcellus Wiley (12:02 PM)
Oh yes. Definitely. I don't know how he'll get ranked in terms of DEs, but he's one of the top ones in my eyes. I played with Bruce Smith and I rank him up there. Bruce is the best ever. Strahan is right up there. He is versatile and plays the run as well as the pass.
Terrence ( Detroit)
Which was the best Super Bowl in recent memory? Panthers vs Patriots? Or Rams vs Titans??
Marcellus Wiley (12:03 PM)
Oooooohhh. The Rams-Patriots one, because everyone thought the Rams were going to win. The Pats upset of the Rams would be bigger than if the Giants were to win.
Marcellus Wiley (12:03 PM)
An honorable mention to the Rams-Titans game.
dat other dude (dallas)
Considering all of the teams you have played for, do you consider one your "home".
Marcellus Wiley (12:04 PM)
Home is where the heart is. I'm probably most recognized as a Charger. Buffalo is my professional birthplace. It was unbelieveable playing with those guys up there. I think most people consider me a Charger and I probably do the same.
Paul (Ft Worth)
Hey Marcellus, Who's the toughest Run-blocking lineman you faced? Pass-blocking?
Marcellus Wiley (12:05 PM)
I'd say the toughest ever I faced was Walter Jones. What was worse than his skills is that he doesn't say much. It's like playing against a monster like Jason or Mike Myers. But I will say that I never faced Tony Boselli and thank God!
Kim (Columbus, OH)
What is the biggest weakness in the Patriots' defense that the Giants have to try to exploit?
Marcellus Wiley (12:06 PM)
The LBs against the run. As the game rolls on, they could miss a step. They could slow down, wear down. They have to stick to the gameplan. The problem is teams get behind and they have to catch up. As the game goes on, it makes it harder to run the football if you're down.
Marcellus Wiley (12:07 PM)
I'll miss you guys because the Super Bowl is coming to an end and I don't know if they'll want me on to talk football after this is all done. But I look forward to chatting soon.
Buzzmaster (12:08 PM)
Thanks Dat Dude!
Buzzmaster (12:09 PM)
Next up is Keith Kidd!
Keith Kidd (12:16 PM)
Hey guys, I miss living here in this area. It is great to be talking about the Super Bowl with the Nation, let's get rolling with your NFL questions!
Zac (Oakland)
Any news out of the mess that is the Oakland Raiders?
Keith Kidd (12:17 PM)
Obviously Zac we all know now that Kiffen has no control and that Al Davis is back to running the Raiders. Stay tuned. The Kiffen watch has started!
Brendan (Boston)
Kidder, is there any chance that Pats only score 17 points on Sunday?
Keith Kidd (12:20 PM)
No way! If Spangnola can hold them to 17 or less, he will be the new Washington coach the next day. That would be an unreal job by the defense against that offense. That is one of the most dominating offenses I have seen. But all the pressure is on the Pats. If the Giants are going to win this game they need to keep in close in the 4th and then find a way to finish the game, whcih no one has been able to do. Eli Manning must play the perfect game.
Mike ( Chicago )
Keith, which Super Bowl was most entertaining? Rams vs Pats? Bills vs Giants? Pats vs Cats? Titans vs Rams?
Keith Kidd (12:22 PM)
Pats vs. Cats, because I was there with the Pats and that was my first experience of winning the Super Bowl. And then to come back the next year and win another one was simply amazing, against the Eagles. And comparing Super Bowls, Houston was a great city to party! Unlike Jacksonville where we were isolated from everyone.
Tom (NY,NY)
Can we stop talking about Plax's comments. Is it such a fault that he believes his team will win. God Forbid anyone say they can beat the all mighty Patriots. Meanwhile, I love how no one is talking about how Kraft trademarked the phrase "19-0 the perfect season" already.
Keith Kidd (12:26 PM)
Absolutely. But any little thing said before the game is blown out of propotion by the media. And don't you think the Pats think the same thing, that they can win. And I love it. I hope Plaxico goes out and has a great game. I would love to see both Plaxico and Moss at their best, battling each other at their best.
Majeed
Keith, Personally, I feel the SB should rotate between 3 cities. San Diego, Miami, and Vegas (if they can build a stadium). Great places to party and tons of stuff to do!!!
Keith Kidd (12:27 PM)
Great call. But I will also throw in Arizona, because it is a great place to be at this time of the year. In Vegas, who would go to the game? There is too much fun out there!
Gerald (Alabama)
Hey Keith, Who do you think would be more difficult to work for, Al Davis or Jerry Jones?
Keith Kidd (12:30 PM)
Having not worked for either one, I cannot really answer that question. I actually think ti would be great to work for both of them, because you have to love the fact that they both want to win. The Raiders have been a strange place, though, over these last few years with the way they do things. It is not like Mr. Davis has not spent money, but they need to become more stable at head coach. Until they do that they will not win on a consistent basis. And the thing is the Raiders are not that far away. And Dallas is loaded.
Jason (TN)
Are the PATS going to lose anyone in the offseason??
Keith Kidd (12:32 PM)
It will be difficult for them to keep Samuel, but I think they will resign Moss or franchise him. This is a team that is getting older so there are questions about Harrison, Seau, Bruschi and more. So there are questions as to who will want to retire and move on. But as long as they have Brady, they have to be one of the favorites to win it all year in and year out.
Chris (Broadview Heights, OH)
How ridiculous is it that they are having another regular season game in England? I mean, I'm sure the "home" team still charges their fans full price for the worthless pre-season games but they lose one of their precious 8 home games.
Keith Kidd (12:34 PM)
Remember the NFL is a bussiness first, and as long as they can promote the league and make money, I have no problem with them putting games overseas, as long as teams are willing to do it. And close to 100,000 people showed up in the rain for that miserable Miami-New York game. It is an etertainment business baby!
tom* (parkville, md)
Do you understand the logic of the Redskins' coaching search?
Keith Kidd (12:36 PM)
No. To me it is a very strange dynamic, putting assitants in place without a head coach. But there are only 32 NFL coaching jobs, and it is a special thing..even though the next Redskins head coach will not have much control over the staff.
Eric (Boston)
As a Pats fan, why should i be confident? Conversely, why should I be nervous?
Keith Kidd (12:36 PM)
No need to be nervous, because if they do lose to the Giants it will be one of the greatest upsets in the history of the Super Bowl.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
What does Brad Childress see in Tavaris Jackson? I can't see the Vikes succeeding with him running the offense.
Keith Kidd (12:39 PM)
A year ago, I thought the Vikes should sign a vet at QB, but that did not happen. To me the Vikings are not that far away from being a contending team who can go deep, if they can get the QB situation figured out, a big-time WR, and a scheme changing pass rusher. But those three things are very hard to figure out and find in one offseason.
Lee (NY)
Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan get all the attention, but what do you think of up-and-coming Justin Tuck?
Keith Kidd (12:41 PM)
He is a great young player. It was obvious in the money the Giants invested in him with that extension. The strength of the Giants is their pass rush, which is easily the best in the NFL. The one thing people do not notice is the huge impact Strahan's had this year.
Jason TN
Why do you think Norm Chow was fired??
Keith Kidd (12:42 PM)
It was the lack of development and the performance of Vince Young. Period.
Jack (SD)
Eli Manning = glorified Rex Grossman, how am I wrong?
Keith Kidd (12:44 PM)
Totally wrong. It is not even close. Regraless of how he has played during the playoffs, Eli's best years are ahead of him, while I know Grossman is not a long-term starter based on what I have seen over his career.
Matt,mpls
If the Pats franchise Moss, I can guarantee that he goes back to his pouting ways and making up injuries. If they want the same moss they got this year, they better pay him.
Keren (Maui)
If the Rams were heavy favorites over the Pats and the upset happened why is so hard to believe the Giants will not be able to pull off the upset?
Keith Kidd (12:49 PM)
I agree. The Rams were heavy favorites. The Pats have played close Super Bowls the last three times. If the Giants are to shock the world it will be a close game, if not, this game could get ugly.
Pete ( canada)
GO GIANTS GO....
TD (Boston)
Keren: First, the Pats have Belichick, the Rams had Martz. Second, the Pats have Brady....etc
Steve (NJ)
Any thoughts on what color Tom Coughlin's face will be this weekend?
Keith Kidd (12:52 PM)
A lot of it will depend on how the Giants start the game. He went from a sun burn in Tampa to a wind burn in Green Bay. But you know he will take an us against the world mentallity. And hey, they will be wearing the white jerseys this week, so they are still technically on the road!
Keith Kidd (12:53 PM)
Hey Nation it has been great talking ball. Best of luck to you Giants and Patriots fans! I am outta here! ~Kidder
Buzzmaster (12:56 PM)
Kidder you are a saint! Thanks man! Next up we have DJ Gallo.
DJ Gallo (1:00 PM)
Hello, SportsNation. This is DJ Gallo, here to give you a report on all of the happenings here at ground zero at the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, where I'm staying is a little bit outside of Glendale. It's about, say ... 2,385 miles, give or take.
Jeff (Fort Worth, TX)
Is Tom Brady offended when people refer to chokers as "goats?"
DJ Gallo (1:01 PM)
The Giants are just lucky that Grey Ruegamer castrates sheep, not goats. Brady would show them no mercy if it was goats.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
That's pretty far away. Are you transporting Barbaro's ashes to Churchill Downs?
DJ Gallo (1:02 PM)
Barbaro is not dead! Take it back! Take it back!
JAKE,MIAMI
WILL BRADYS SHOULDER EFFECT HIS GAME PLAY ON SUNDAY?
DJ Gallo (1:03 PM)
Well, it's bad enough that it's on the injury report. And credit Bill Belichick for being so forthcoming.
EDogII Bayonne NJ
Mr. Gallo...why are you always squinting?
DJ Gallo (1:05 PM)
Umm, I'm sorry. It's hard for me to see what your wrote. Something about punting maybe? Jeff Feagles and Chris Hanson are both fine punters.
susan, las vegas
are you free tonight?
DJ Gallo (1:07 PM)
Susan, why are you still in Vegas?: http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/stories/2008/01/27/0127_circuit.html
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Does Wes Welker remind you of Chris O'Donnel or Tobey McGuire?
DJ Gallo (1:08 PM)
Per media guidelines, Wes Welker reminds me of only Ed McCaffrey, Brandon Stokley, Don Beebe and Wayne Chrebet.
Peyton (Indianapolis, IN)
My brother will be "Unstoppable" this Sunday. I am trying to get some of that Citizen watch money for myself.
DJ Gallo (1:08 PM)
Like I've always said, even Elisha's Citizen Watch commercial is right twice a year.
Ken (Denver)
DJ and JAKE - Brady has been on the injury report with a shoulder problem for at least the last 3 years. The NFL injury report is as bad as the NHL "injury" report. LOL
DJ Gallo (1:09 PM)
Ken, ladies and gentlemen.
Josh (Asheville, NC)
DJ, which parties are you attending? And which party do you want to attend the most? Thanks.
DJ Gallo (1:11 PM)
Umm ... I might have some people over to my house to watch the game. (Yeah, I'm not in Arizona.)
D (MI)
Is the Super Bowl the most over analyzed sporting event?
DJ Gallo (1:13 PM)
Good question. Let me get some media brethren together to put some thought into it.
Ray Lewis (Baltimore, MD)
May I come to your party? I will bring the cutlery.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
Which would you prefer....trip to ARI for Superbowl or trip to Hawaii for Pro Bowl?
DJ Gallo (1:13 PM)
Are you propositioning me, Vic?
Steve (NJ)
Your thoughts on Congo's ceasefire with the rebels?
DJ Gallo (1:14 PM)
Rad.
Josh (Asheville, NC)
Dude...Dude (shaking my head), that really stinks. Feels for ya, dude. I am heading out there tonight to see the game. Was hoping to use ya for a connection to get into the Playboy party, but I guess not. Where's Buzz?
DJ Gallo (1:16 PM)
Buzz is a non-being that floats across the ether.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Your thoughts on Doc stealing plutonium from the Lybians?
DJ Gallo (1:17 PM)
Great Scott!
ELO-ORLANDO
You want to talk politics and start an ESPN cyberwar?
DJ Gallo (1:17 PM)
No, not at all. I just want to talk about the Super Bowl. Well, the Super Bowl, religion and abortion.
Bob(Lowell)
Have you finished that super secret project that kept you from doing Ponder This?
DJ Gallo (1:18 PM)
Kind of. The heavy lifting is done. Thank God for B-12 and Lidocaine.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
In your opinion, who does Bill Belichick resemble more: Obi Wan Kenobi or a Jawa?
DJ Gallo (1:20 PM)
I have never seen any of the Star Wars. Sorry. Are they the movies with Barfolomew?
John (Dallas)
That's for the heads up about Buzz DJ, guess now you'll tell me Santa is not real!
DJ Gallo (1:21 PM)
No, no, no. Not at all. Santa is real. Well, he WAS real. Now he is dead.
rerun (su)
half man, half dog, he's his own best friend...
Paul (Portland, OR)
Who are you going to endorse for Presdient, since those endorsements are flying left and right (no pun intended) now.
DJ Gallo (1:23 PM)
Mike Gravel. We are badly losing the crazy race with Iran and North Korea.
JAKE,MIAMI
Will plax play on sunday even though he did not attend practice this week?
DJ Gallo (1:24 PM)
No. My sources tell me he's out for the game. Not a chance he is playing. Sorry.
Johan Santana (New York, NY)
DJ since your in Arizona will you ask Rod Tidwell to tell my agent "Show me the money"
DJ Gallo (1:25 PM)
How about I just tell Cuba Gooding to stop accepting every script he's given.
Phil (San Diego, CA)
Do you think Tiger Woods is Un-American for playing in Dubai this week?
DJ Gallo (1:27 PM)
No. But, Phil, I think you are a great representation of America's full-busted women.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Crap I missed chance to talk to a guy named Parfait.
DJ Gallo (1:28 PM)
Parfait should be saved for after dinner. Lunch is way too early. Buzz is going to give us all a cavity.
Jay (DELAWARE)
i just hope the Pats lose
DJ Gallo (1:29 PM)
Someone give Jay a Haterade shower! Boo-yah! Snap, et cetera, et cetera ...
Jon, Miami
im in 6th period so i have to hurry, but will the guiants "d" be enough to hold brady deep throwing?
DJ Gallo (1:30 PM)
No. But if 6th period is English class, perhaps you should stick around for extra instruction.
Chris
Have you spotted any of the players' girlfriends down there? Can't beleive after the Dallas fiasco the press havent pulled out the bloodhouds and tracked some of them down.
DJ Gallo (1:32 PM)
Let's keep this clean. I'll get arrested trying to look at them down there. Unless they climb out of a limo and everything is exposed, I'm out of luck.
Dan (San Jose)
Is Jon in a Miami High School or something? No wonder so many kids are being left behind. Pay attention in class! It's your fault DJ.
DJ Gallo (1:33 PM)
You forget the original title of that bill. The title was "The No Child Left Behind Act." The subhead was: "Except Jon"
Jon, Miami
i blame my grades to DJ!!!!!!!
DJ Gallo (1:34 PM)
I blame my grades ON DJ. F.
Mike (Columbia, MO)
Since it has been so cold lately, is it hard to find hobos to punch?
DJ Gallo (1:35 PM)
No, it's better actually. In the cold I wear boxing gloves, so I can punch, punch, punch away the day without hurting my knuckles. It takes longer to fell a hobo due to the padding, but it's an even trade-off.
John (Portland, ME)
You have one shot to get a picture with either Brady or Gisele, but not both...who do you choose?
DJ Gallo (1:36 PM)
Brady, definitely. He can block, but he is also a pass-catching threat at the tight end position. I respect that versatility.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Will there be a replacement for AM Jump? Jon in Miami misses it because it gave him the opportunity to ignore math class.
Seth (Chicago)
I loved my sportspickle coffee mug but I broke it last week when I saw Brady in a cast on TMZ. Can you send me another one? Any updates on why he's wearing the protective helmet at practice this week?
DJ Gallo (1:38 PM)
Well, apparently they are worried he could sustain a concussion. And he also needs to protect those hair plugs.
Mike (Lowell)
Who is the quarterback of this century? First respone will naturally be Brady but does Mannings super bowl victory last year and his powerful stats seal the deal?
DJ Gallo (1:39 PM)
Apparently you haven't heard that Eli has turned the corner. Once he throws for 750 yards and 11 TDs on Sunday, he'll still have three more Super Bowls to win this decade. Really, it's not even close: it's Elisha - and you're stupid for even asking the question.
Chris
Jon - pay attention in class so later in life you can get paid handsomely while you chat with DJ.
DJ Gallo (1:41 PM)
Exactly. McDonald's does not have Internet access. Work hard now, Jon, so you can slack off later.
Nick (Chicago)
Anyone ever mistake you for the wine founder, EJ Gallo?
DJ Gallo (1:42 PM)
Well, duh ... YES! We're practically twins: http://www.historicmodesto.com/Resources/ernestandjulioa.jpeg
Jay (Waterloo, IA)
How does it make sense that you can brush your teeth "too hard"? How can things be less clean by applying extra pressure? I know you're the guy to answer this one.
DJ Gallo (1:43 PM)
And whaaaaat ... is the deeeeeal ... with dry cleaning?! How can you clean something dry?!
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Which Randy Moss will show up on Sunday. The Moss that tried to run over a meter maid in Minneapolis or the Moss that battered a woman in Ft. Lauderdale?
DJ Gallo (1:44 PM)
Hey! That is uncalled for! A low blow! Randy Moss would never hit a woman. It's his car that would hit a woman.
Kevin (Ropes, NY)
If the hobo is wearing a sweatervest or a turtleneck, do you give him a pass?
DJ Gallo (1:44 PM)
You don't get it. I only target hobos in sweater vests and turtlenecks. Then I take them as my trophies.
Neal (Philly)
DJ, jorts or zubaz pants?
DJ Gallo (1:45 PM)
Jorts over top of Zubaz. Oh, yeah.
Seth (Chicago)
Who's your odds on favorite to get busted with a hooker this week?
DJ Gallo (1:46 PM)
1) McNulty; 2) me; 3) Jared Lorenzen; but he will be trying to eat her, not use her for other means
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Gallo, I heard that Keith Law and Chad Ford are going to pile you in the parking lot for taking the main chat screen. Mel Kiper Jr. wants in as well.
DJ Gallo (1:47 PM)
What?! I got the main chat page?! Oh, Buzz, if you weren't a non-being floating in the ether, I would give you a big, fat, sloppy kiss.
Joe (Fryer Station)
Actually yes we do have internet access here. Would you like fries with this post?
Jim (Orlando)
How's the view from the upperdeck?
DJ Gallo (1:48 PM)
Smells like poor people.
Tom (Chicago)
Actually, Lorenzen will be paying the hooker to stay in the room so when he orders room service for 5 it doesn't look as bad.
Ryan (Los Angeles)
You conduct the lamest chats ever. Worthless to even read.
DJ Gallo (1:50 PM)
But not lame enough to not post in. One point for me! Woot, woot, et cetera, et cetera ...
Jay (buffalo)
My friends are offering me $20 to get maced this weekend... should i do it?
DJ Gallo (1:51 PM)
Is the economy really that bad in Buffalo?
Joe (Cold Sore, Lip)
Never eat a hooker.
DJ Gallo (1:52 PM)
Sorry for the delay there. I had to let my dog out. Who? Who? Who? /Mitt Romney
Marlo, Baltimore
What club should PacMan and I hit up?
Josh (Asheville, NC)
One last question, DJ. Everyone says I am getting a raw deal. My cousin scored a few tickets and is giving me one, but I have to pay the bar tabs for the group (4 guys) out there? Good deal?
DJ Gallo (1:54 PM)
If you're going with a bunch of Mormons, you're golden.
Dan (San Jose)
If the Joe with the cold sore is Joe Namath, don't let him kiss you. Cause he will.
Slim Charles
to Marlo: We'll be at the same club waiting.
Jack (NB Canada)
Why was Drew Henson ahead of Tom Brady on Michigan's depth chart?
DJ Gallo (1:56 PM)
Few people know this, but Lloyd Carr's biggest failing at Michigan was his habit of holding the depth chart upside-down.
Omar (Baltimore)
Does anyone think that me flying last Sunday was a little........weird? Also, I'm gay.
Joe (Whitefish, MT)
I thought it was his constant yelling at recruits for being on his lawn and playing their rock music.
DJ Gallo (1:58 PM)
I said Lloyd Carr, not Joe Paterno.
DJ Gallo (1:59 PM)
Okay, I think my time is up. I'm going to go enjoy the sights here in "Arizona" at the "Super Bowl."
Buzzmaster (2:00 PM)
DJ is the man. He always makes me laugh.
Dave(vt)
Go buzz go!
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Good hustle
Joe (Whitefish, MT)
Thanks for the chat DJ, always my favorite ones.
Sean (Philly)
The Ether must have floated away from the keyboard.
Chris
You should go interview someone or something. I'll get back to work too.
Dan Pittsburgh, PA
Stop ignoring my questions ph-puh-please. Otherwise I'm falling asleep to boubon and tears..... again. :-(
Jay (Philly)
thanks for not answering any of my questions.
Tom Cruise (Spaceship)
I'm a super guy, just ask me.
Buzzmaster (2:02 PM)
How nice are you Tom?
mitchel (houston)
Jim Rome says they got odds on the color of the Gatorade that gets dumped on the winning coach. I'm betting the kid's college fund on orange!!!
Buzzmaster (2:03 PM)
I believe yesterday we discovered orange was the leader at 2/1.
Jeff (Iowa)
Buzz, what's happening?
Buzzmaster (2:04 PM)
Just hanging out.
Buzzmaster (2:04 PM)
We've got Matt Hasselbeck coming up in 45 minutes.
kiran(philly)
SN, help with prop bets. First player to score TD? Last player? The first score will be a ny fg, pats TD....? The last score will be...?
Brett Farve (Green Bay, WI)
You mean that guy that backed me up for so long?
Neal (Philly)
Buzz is busy looking for TV Azteca girl.
Sean (Philly)
Sweet, I can ask him if he likes watching his sister in law on The View.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Hey Buzz any chance of ever getting Scott van Pelt to chat one of these days?
evan (fort lauderdale)
i have jabbar gaffney scoring the 1st td...pretty good odds on him
Greg ( Carlsbad, CA)
Whomever stole my laptop is in serious trouble. On a more important note Matt Holliday never touched the plate and the Pats are cheaters
Kyle M Boston
I Want Tim Hasselbeck!
Dee (Providence RI)
WHEN the Giants win the superbowl...Will Eli get a nod to the probowl?
Jeff (Iowa)
The View? Man card, Sean.
Laptop Burglar
Whatever Greg. Don't let your defense down, cry baby.
Cody (arlington tn)
man I am tired of everyone saying that the giants got whooped last time they played pats it was only a fg and the giants did waste alot of time
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
George Brett will score the first TD of SuperBowl XLII, you heard it here first!
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Buzz what's the deal with all the whiners complaining that you don't post their questions? If they want to get posted, they have to step up their game (or buy you a steak dinner) right?
Buzzmaster (2:11 PM)
Or at least offer one so I can refuse.
tom* (parkville, md)
Any Brittney Spears sightings?
Buzzmaster (2:12 PM)
No. Is she supposed to be around here or something? Am I missing something? I keep getting this question.
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Buzz are you pro or anti hobo punching?
Buzzmaster (2:12 PM)
It depends. Is the hobo Mike Tyson?
Jeremy (NYC)
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa, Buzz this is not my batman glass
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
The Laptop Burglar is almost as bad as the Hamburglar.
Don Corleone (The mattresses)
He even refused my steak offer
Sean (Philly)
The View can be very entertaining if you like to laugh at peoples oppinions on things they know nothing about.
Jeff (Iowa)
She's back in the hospital, Buzz, apparently for psychological reasons. Go figure.
Buzzmaster (2:13 PM)
OK. But why would I be seeing her in Phoenix?
evan (fort lauderdale)
i am not a hobo...i am a bobo
Ed Hochuli
Buzz, I'm also a lawyer. May I add, a beefcake of a lawyer too.
Dave(vt)
Buzz you eating lunch? Is that why its so slow, you cant eat your hoagie and type at the same time?
Buzzmaster (2:14 PM)
I have not eaten lunch yet. I'm going to check out that Chicago hot dog place...I think.
Kyle (Davie,FL)
Hey, The Pats will win Don't forget the Dolphins in 72' had close games too, You have close games then you have a rematch and it's a different game
Rowdy Rody Piper (OH)
Buzzy, you have a strong musk.
Dave (NJ)
My cat's breath smells like cat food.
Dave(vt)
Cuz Phoenix is where we send all the crazy people? Like the british sent their criminals to austrailia.
Sean (Philly)
Jeff, I took a picture of my Man card, and sent it to you. According to Buzz, that should satisfy you.
Eric (Indiana)
I have been hearing alot of advertisements on the radio, and none of them are saying the term, "Super Bowl" are we at the point where some entity has this term copyrighted
Sean (Philly)
That is a good sign Dave, most cats breath smells like Death.
Jeff (Iowa)
Only officially licensed companies can use the term Super Bowl.
Buzzmaster (2:16 PM)
Super Bowl. Super Bowl. Super Bowl.
Diego ((Chicago))
What's the name of the Chicago hot dog place?
Buzzmaster (2:17 PM)
Chicago Hamburger Co.
Dennis (Boston)
Buzz i need my daily posting, can you help a brother out?
evan (fort lauderdale)
buzz has been talking about going to that chicago hot dog place for 3 days now
Buzzmaster (2:17 PM)
I know. And I'm finally going to go over there.
Kyle (Davie,FL)
Why does everyone hate on the Patriots? I am Prolly the only Pats fan in South Florida
Dan (San Jose)
What if I said Superbowl? One word. Not two.
Josh (Asheville, NC)
Buzz, how's Arizona. I will be there tonight. No, Brit is not there. Brit was commited back to the hospital at UCLA last night for the weekend. Also, I asked DJ this question and didn't get a straight answer. Well, here it is: everyone says I am getting a raw deal. My cousin scored a few tickets to the Super Bowl and is giving me one, but I have to pay the bar tabs for the group (4 guys) that I will be with out there? Good deal? Also, can you get me into the Playboy party? PLEASE?
Chris
Buzz - you are lucky the ESPN is official.
Buzzmaster (2:18 PM)
Is the ESPN kinda like The Iraq?
Buzzmaster (2:18 PM)
And all those places such as?
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Buzz, you are going to a place called Chicago Hamburger Co. for a hot dog, first you pass up a free steak, now this.
NFL Exec (NYC)
That will be $1000 Buzz, thank you.
Sean (Philly)
Josh, that is a raw deal. Just make sure you get lost alot.
evan (fort lauderdale)
there are plenty of pats fans when the pats play the fins....funny b/c when they stunk, you never saw pats fans at the game
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Wow! Josh was informative AND whiny in the same post! Good work Josh.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Josh: It's a lousy deal. Sorry.
Jeff (Iowa)
Josh, I have read two of your lengthy dissertations today, and now I have a headache.
Paul (Columbus, Ohio)
Any idea is ESPN is looking to hire Electrical Engineers?
Buzzmaster (2:20 PM)
Because we have electricity at ESPN.
Jeff (Iowa)
Electricity? Isn't Lance Armstrong still working?
Chris (Denver, CO)
My heart is with the Giants but i think the better part of me knows the Patriots are on a mission!
Joe (Huntsville,AL)
Let's see 4 guys drinking for 4 days and nights? Yep, you're screwed.
Sean (Philly)
I believe we went over this earlier. We can use the term Superbowl in conversation, but not in advertisements without paying the NFL.
Bret Peterson (Grand Forks ND)
NFL tickets for the super bowl are now blown up to ridculous prices... the super bowl is no longer for fans its a media trap and only good for company execs
Dan (San Jose)
See...Sean gets it. One word. Superbowl. Not two. Loopholes rule!
Xander (Philly)
Honestly, on someone elses tab, I could drink about double what I normally would. Free drinks go down smoother, taste better, and get you drunker...its science
Godish (Chicago)
NFL tried to copyright the term Big Game. Law wouldn't allow that. Hence, bars advertise for the Big Game.
Jack (NB Canada)
ESPN=Engineering Society Performance Network
Paul (Columbus, Ohio)
Electrical Engineering isnt exactly always electricity Buzz...fyi
Buzzmaster (2:23 PM)
Paul, don't be such a nerd.
NKTOB
Yo we're New Kids ! Coming back baby ! Hey Pats, oh oh oh oh oh Hangin Tough ! Yeah Go Pats !
Josh (Asheville, NC)
Buzz, can you get me into the Playboy or not? I will bring you a box of Krispy Kremes.
Buzzmaster (2:24 PM)
How about you bring me $5,000.
Jeff (Iowa)
Paul, try Monster.com. Buzz is busy eating free food and stalking Mexican TV reporters.
Chris (Denver, CO)
some one elses tab? damn your royally screwed you the designated driver 2 lol!
Chris (Detroit)
We are supposed to get 12 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow.
Paul (Columbus)
Buzz, dont be ignorant
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
You know Josh, I wanted to help you but the incessant 11-year old whining has made me change my mind.
Jon (Chicago)
Buzz, if they even try to suggest ketchup on your Chicago dog, turn around, say nothing and walk out.
Buzzmaster (2:25 PM)
And then burn the place down.
Drew (Chicago)
Buzz, just so we are sure you know what you are doing, you are aware of what should be on a Chicago dog right?
Buzzmaster (2:26 PM)
That's kinda like asking Picasso if he knows what a paintbrush is.
Bret (grand forks ND)
better teammate....randy or plax?
Buzzmaster (2:27 PM)
Better teammate? I don't know. Better player? Randy, hands down.
Dan (San Jose)
After you chain the doors first, right Buzz? Psycho.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Buzz, be sure to punch them in the face first before the burning down thing.
Buzzmaster (2:27 PM)
Why, does the hobo Mike Tyson work there?
ELO-ORLANDO
They are giving away ticket to Tom Petty here, I guess he's going to Disney World after the SB!
Jeff (Iowa)
I believe Dan's sarcasm radar has been turned off, Buzz.
Bret (grand forks ND)
why in a sports nation chat are we discussing hotdogs, snow, and ignorance? isnt there a super bowl this sunday or is it just me
Buzzmaster (2:29 PM)
OK. Let's talk Super Bowl. What do you wanna know?
Dave(vt)
Well break time, ill be back in 15 minutes after my cribbage game.
ProDogDresser (Chicago)
FYI : Chicago dogs are dressed with mustard, bright green relish, chopped onions, pickled hot peppers, tomato slices and dill pickles. Celery salt is optional.
Buzzmaster (2:30 PM)
This fact brought to you by Cut and Paste. You too can know it all by using the Cut and Paste feature on your computer.
Buzzmaster (2:31 PM)
All I have to say is that this hot dog place better be good. I passed up an In 'n' Out run.
Godish (Chicago)
Celery salt is not an option. Put it on the Dog. Even ketchup too. I hate everyone's stupid hot dog rules.
Ric Flair (North Carolina)
I may have missed the Morning Buzz, but the nature boy is here to help all of SportsNation escape from the sleeper hold of the subprime mortgage market. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Dan (San Jose)
Right back at ya, Jeff.
Buzzmaster (2:31 PM)
I'm glad to see that later these chats go on the more our West Coast is represented.
ProDogDresser (Chicago)
Oh, come oooooon... We are talkin' the intrawebbernets. That's COPY and Paste. Derka. Ctrl - C, sucka!
Bob(Lowell)
Why would you want to put paste on your hot dog........or your computor for that matter?
Gray (Chicago)
Godish must now leave Chicago or buy season tickets to the White Sox, his choice...KETCHUP!?!? (Jim Mora-style).
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Hold on now, everyone is getting a little testy with the sarcasm meter stuff. Let's not freak out OK.....Let's keep our composure!!
Buzzmaster (2:34 PM)
Way to keep us honest, Cal. We're coming down the home stretch of Super Bowl week, we can't let it get away from us. We're working on a perfect season here SportsNation!
Steve (NJ)
Buzz, how is it we missed Hulk Hogan's backing of Barak Obama this morning? That, to me, should have been MB gold.
ELO-ORLANDO
Buzz, is DJ just as quirky in person as in his chats?
Buzzmaster (2:34 PM)
DJ is the man, plain and simple. Buzz likes DJ, DJ likes Buzz.
Jeff (Iowa)
Cal must be short for Calm.
gardiner maine
what will be the final score.
Buzzmaster (2:35 PM)
You know what the weird part about this post is? I've actually been to Gardiner, ME.
Julius Campbell (Virginia)
This team, this Sports Nation, is perfect.
evan (fort lauderdale)
buzz, how are are you from radio row?
Buzzmaster (2:35 PM)
Far. Very, very far.
DJ Gallo (Glendale)
Easy, there, Buzz.
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
I had to take the wheel of the bus there Buzz. Kind of like that 7 year old kid who jumped up and drove the school bus when the driver was having a heart attack.
Sean (Philly)
Gardiner must not pay attention. 23-17 Giants, Plaxico said so.
The Dish (Elgin, IL)
I have to defend my brother's honor here, especially to Gray, ketchup is great on hot dogs, and go White Sox! 2005 champs!
Lady Buzz (Bristol)
Matt, stop calling me.
Cookie Monster
C is for cookies and its good enough for my hot dogs.
Bret (Grand Forks ND)
SO is Matt H actually come on here or not
Buzzmaster (2:39 PM)
Yes, in 5 minutes. What's with everyone's impatience today?
Buzzmaster (2:39 PM)
But start sending in your questions now and I'll save them for Mr. Hasselbeck.
Josh (New Hampshire)
Patriots 19-0 season... 56-35 final score
Slider Backer (Tuscon)
Buzz, If you are going to the Chicago Hamburger Company, don't forget to try a couple Windy City Sliders. DEEEEE-LISH!
Buzzmaster (2:40 PM)
A local chiming in. I like it.
Diego ((Chicago))
What are Windy City Sliders?
Chris (LA CA)
bad news Buzz..no Tommy's in AZ..youll have to wait until LA hosts a super bowl i guess
Dan (San Jose)
107-6 final score. Johan Santana will kick a couple of 112 yard field goals for the G-Men while on loan from the Mets.
Jeff (Iowa)
He spelled Tucson wrong, Buzz. I think he might be an imposter.
Jarrod (Phoenix, AZ)
So, Is Arizona impressive neough to get anotner crack at a Super Bowl? has to be better than Detroit or Jacksonville.
Buzzmaster (2:43 PM)
Definitely better than Detroit and Jacksonville.
Sean (Philly)
Sliders are mini Hamburgers. You can get them at ESPNZone as well.
Zach (Montezuma, IA)
Are you going to the Suns game tonight, Buzz?
Buzzmaster (2:43 PM)
That's a negative Ghostwriter.
Neal (Philly)
I don't leave for an hour and a half and I'm already drooling.
Jeff (Iowa)
It could be worse, Buzz. You could be sitting just outside of the Metrodome.
Steve (NJ)
Ghostwriter? Wasn't it Ghostrider?
Buzzmaster (2:45 PM)
Probably. But they both sound the same if you read it fast, so there you go.
Buzzmaster (2:45 PM)
I just got a call from Matt's people. We're about two minutes away. Two minutes people!
Rob (DC)
Ghostwriter? Awesome PBS kid's show reference Buzz
Derka Derka
Steve, It's a chat. Ghostwriter was appropriately used.
Jack (NB Canada)
Super Bowl L will be in Gardiner, Maine.
Sean (Philly)
I thought you were being clever with ghostwriter since this is a chat...
Buzzmaster (2:46 PM)
Yeah, that's what I was doing.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Buzz, don't trust a local who doesn't know how to sell his city name.
Jeff (Iowa)
Do you have any people, Buzz, or are we it?
Buzzmaster (2:46 PM)
Well, LadyBuzz, MommaBuzz and you guys.
Ben (Jackson)
Buzz, where's Matty H already!!!!??? COME ON!!!
Buzzmaster (2:47 PM)
He's coming! Hang on. Send in your questions already.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Don't forget the fish Buzz. Fish are living creatures too!
BobBoso
Buzz, don't trust a chat-dwelling hippy that doesn't know how to spell the word "spell".
Dominic (Baltimore)
Hey does Adalius Thomas still play for Pats cause it seems like hes been lost!!! All that money and he gets 5 tackles a game!!! He should have never left BMore!!!
Cal (St. Paul, MN)
Buzz just wrote two minutes until Matt is here. If he's not here in three, Buzz's laptop will explode from all the whiny posts asking where Matt is already.
Buzzmaster (2:50 PM)
We've got Matt!
Chris
Make sure Matt has fresh batteries in his sarcasm meter. We've all been here a while.
Ben (Jackson)
Is Matt here yet?
Buzzmaster (2:51 PM)
Yes! Get those questions in!
Maitiu (DC)
How excited are you that Holmgren is coming back?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:53 PM)
It's a great thing for our team and a great thing for me.
Jack (NB Canada)
Matt, did you grow up a Pat's fan since your Dad played for them?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:54 PM)
I did. Until they traded him to the Raiders in 1983. But then the Raiders won the Super Bowl, so I forgave them.
Vic (Kailua)
Hsselbacks vs Mannings vs Palmers.....Who wins?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:54 PM)
We're faster, they're taller.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Another ? for Mr. Hasselback: What was your welcome to the NFL moment?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:55 PM)
Probably when I was studying my playbook and talking to myself when I thought I was alone. Reggie White came up behind me and said, don't worry, you'll get it. I thought for a second it was God.
Pete ( Canada )
Matt who is the best player that you have played with and why ?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:55 PM)
Probably Walter Jones or Brett Favre.
Sarah (Austin, TX)
Did you ever get Brett Favre's signature?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:56 PM)
No, I never got his autograph.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Matt what would you say was the biggest difference between the playoffs & super bowl? The distractions, the layoff, etc.?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:56 PM)
Probably the obstacles to your focused. It's important to stay focused and there are a lot of things with the Super Bowl.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Matt, What other sports did you play growing up?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:57 PM)
My parents wouldn't let us play organized football when we were growing up. So I played everything else but football. I started football when I Was 12.
Dan (San Jose)
Do you watch your sister-in-law on TV? Does it ever resemble a Hasselbeck family dinner?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:57 PM)
No, that show reminds me of the Best Damn Sports Show.
Gray (Chicago)
Matt do NFL players hate media day as much as true sports fans? It has become a joke.
Matt Hasselbeck (2:58 PM)
No, just the guys that have the podiums hate it. The guys that get to walk around love it.
Jeff (Iowa)
So, really, how much Chunky Soup does your mom feed you?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:58 PM)
That's real. Everything you see with my mom and Chunky Soup is real. It always has been my whole life.
Chris (Denver, CO)
Favorite city to play in besides Seattle and why?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:59 PM)
Probably Green Bay or Denver, because you can throw it a mile.
Godish (Chicago)
Are you sad that the Sonics are leaving?
Matt Hasselbeck (2:59 PM)
Yeah, I think it would be a terrible thing if they left. I grew up a Celtics fan.
Diego ((Chicago))
Matt, who will win the super bowl and by what score?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:00 PM)
I can't give a prediction, I play both teams next year. Belichick and Coughlin will go into the archive for material.
Chris
What did you do with your first NFL paycheck?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:00 PM)
I bought a Volkswagon.
Jeff (Iowa)
Your dad was a tight end. How did you and your brother end up being quarterbacks, and did he try to steer you away from it?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:00 PM)
My freshman coach said I was too skinny to block anybody.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Hi Matt, have you been following Matt Ryan's career at all? How do you think he'll fare in the NFL?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:01 PM)
I think he'll do really well. My hope for him is that he gets to a team with some coaches that understand QBs.
bill (ga)
what are you doing in Phoenix?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:02 PM)
I'm down here with my mom promoting Campbell's Chunky Soup. With my day promoting Reebok and I'm also with EAS promoting their bars. They're giving them away free at EAS.com/
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Who do you thin is the x-factor for both the pats and giants?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:02 PM)
Can they protect Tom Brady?
Zach (Montezuma, IA)
What was it like throwing to your backup, Seneca Wallace, sometimes?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:03 PM)
It's fun. I know Seneca very well, because we spend a lot of time together. I'm happy he gets to get on the field.
Chris (Denver, CO)
Who would you rather play Giants D or the Patriots O?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:03 PM)
I never like to go up against Strahan and Umeniyora.
Finn (Seattle, WA)
Any comments on Jim Zorn leaving?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:04 PM)
It's a tough loss for the team and it's a great hire by the Redskins.
Jeff (Iowa)
What did you learn playing behind Brett Favre?
Matt Hasselbeck (3:04 PM)
I guess I just lost what people call intangibles. I tried to learn things like that from him for leadership qualities.
Matt Hasselbeck (3:05 PM)
I got to go have my Campbell's Chunky Soup and eat my EAS Myoplex bar before going for a run in my Hex Ride Reebok shoes. Go Seahawks!
Buzzmaster (3:06 PM)
Thanks Matt!
Dan (San Jose)
Wow...Matt sure knows how to make an exit! Get all your plugs in.
Buzzmaster (3:08 PM)
Wright Thompson is up next!
Buzzmaster (3:08 PM)
He just wrote a big piece on Randy Moss and today's E-Ticket on Ernie Adams - Bill Belichick's right-hand man.
Will (ABQ)
You mean Belichick's Dick Cheney
Wright Thompson (3:12 PM)
I'm here. Let's get to the questions.
Sade (Lagos, Nigeria)
Wright, reading the comments on you Ernie piece, some Boston fans think you plaguerized, what say you?
Wright Thompson (3:15 PM)
I say they're absolutely wrong. Halberstam did a lot of amazing reporting about Adams, getting first what had never been gotten. So of course that book is a road map. And there were things from that book in the story, which were attributed to the book. Michael Holley's book was helpful, as were two or three New York Times stories, and interviews with a dozen or so people who knew Ernie. But I appreciate the passion of Boston sports fans and how plugged in they are about their teams.
D (MI)
Kind of an abstract question, but I don't know if you have followed the Seatle Times articles on the 2000 Washington Huskies. If so, I was wondering what your view on this is? Will this effect how teams do background checks on guys?
Wright Thompson (3:16 PM)
I don't think it will have much affect. But I did read that series and thought it was amazing, original journalism. The Seattle Times should be very proud.
Diego ((Chicago))
Wright, do you think that Randy Moss is the best WR in NFL history?
Wright Thompson (3:17 PM)
I am from Mississippi. So I gotta go with Jerry.
Sup (WithYou)
How did you get hold of Ernie's photos?
Wright Thompson (3:17 PM)
From Andover.
Maitiu (DC)
Most of the people you interview or quoted seem to have positive impressions of Adams. Did you come across many who had differing views about the man or what he does?
Wright Thompson (3:18 PM)
Good question. I think that even people who don't like him admire him. And to the heart of your question, it was hard to find people who knew him well enough to have any opinion of him, regardless of whether it was good or bad.
Jeff (Iowa)
Does Ernie Adams tailor Belichick's hoodies?
Wright Thompson (3:20 PM)
I don't have an answer that is nearly as funny as the question was to me. So Bravo Jeff from Iowa.
Jim Brown (Syracuse)
Do you think i'm the greatest RB ever?
Wright Thompson (3:22 PM)
no
Sup (WithYou)
btw, I loved that last line : "If you are Ernie Adams, please contact the writer"
Wright Thompson (3:23 PM)
I'm dying to talk to him. Not for a story. About anything. Just to see his mind work.
Shmessy Olney, MD
Wright, that was the best piece of journalism I've read on ESPN.com for years. Ernie Adams is like the J.D. Salinger, D.B. Cooper, Mark Felt and Greta Garbo of the New England Patriots. This would be too strange for a movie script. Your piece is a must-read. Thank you!
Wright Thompson (3:23 PM)
That was shameless, wasn't it?
Borat, Kazakstan
Do not fear me gypsy, all I want is your tears. Do you understand?
Wright Thompson (3:24 PM)
Give them to me or I will take them
Haden (Memphis)
Didn't you just tell everyone you are from Mississippi? Obviously Wlater Payton was the greatest RB of all time.
Wright Thompson (3:24 PM)
Amen.
Will (Washington, DC)
In many ways, Adams got a jump start on Belichick in the league, has any other team ever gone after Adams or tried to get someone behind the scenes similar to him?
Wright Thompson (3:25 PM)
I've thought about that a lot. Here is my theory, and I'd love to hear from you guys if you think I'm wrong. I am not sure there is another person in America who has his unique set of skills who cares about football.
Sandro (Miami via Boston)
Both Adams and Bilichick clearly have all the attributes you want to see in sports; skill, loyalty, an obsession for perfection (to name a few). That said, how do you feel Belichick will ultimately be remebered?
Wright Thompson (3:25 PM)
As a winner
Chris (Denver, CO)
Tom Brady best QB ever if he wins?
Wright Thompson (3:27 PM)
I gotta go for the Trifecta. Favre.
Will (Washington, DC)
Do any of the older veteran Patriots have a better idea of who Adams is and have a relationship with him? Does he speak to Tom Brady or any of the Defensive leaders?
Wright Thompson (3:28 PM)
I imagine he does, though, as I say in the piece, nobody but he and Belichick really know for sure what he does. But I imagine the players who are in position to benefit from his knowledge do so.
Jim Brown (Syracuse)
Are they the only famous Mississipians besides yourself?
Wright Thompson (3:29 PM)
Willie Morris.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Ole Miss or Miss St?
Wright Thompson (3:29 PM)
Hotty Toddy
Nick (Boston)
Wright, let's not get crazy. Rice, definitely. Payton, sure. Favre? No way.
Wright Thompson (3:30 PM)
Come on. You live in Boston, an amazing city with centuries of wonderful tradition. We are last in education and first in all sorts of things you don't want to be first in. Can't you give me Favre?
Ryan Bismarck ND
Just wondering if it's as hard to get question to you as it is to the Sports Guy?
Wright Thompson (3:31 PM)
Nope...
The Dish (Elgin, IL)
Favorite Super Bowl menu item?
Wright Thompson (3:31 PM)
Chopped Stetson Salad from Cowboy Ciao
Jim Brown (Syracuse)
Sorry, Never heard of Willie Morris
Wright Thompson (3:31 PM)
Google him and check back with me.
Sean (Denver, CO)
As a Native of Glendale, AZ, I know you are all enjoying the weather, women, and any other w words that describes the wonderful AZ scenery. If someone comes into town without Super Bowl tickets, is it worth going near the stadium, or are the crowds unbearable?
Wright Thompson (3:32 PM)
Crowd's and security will be rough. I'd vote for the couch and a flatscreen...
Nick (Boston)
...I suppose.
Wright Thompson (3:32 PM)
You gotta give me something. You've got the lanterns. We've got Mississippi Burning.
Jim Brown (Syracuse)
Whats in a Chopped Stetson Salad?
Wright Thompson (3:33 PM)
all sorts of amazing stuff. salmon. arugula, trail mix, couscous, i think pumpkin seeds and some other stuff
Christian (High Point, NC)
If it makes you feel better, Wright, the city of Boston pulled a Mississippi Burning when they tried to integrate the schools in the 70s.
Wright Thompson (3:34 PM)
that does make me feel better. it's nice to know we are all screwed up.
Ali , CA
seems like u are answering the easy questions only, kinda like media day, dodging the questions people really want answered......
Wright Thompson (3:34 PM)
these are the hard ones. you should see the stuff I'm not answering.
Maitiu (DC)
I'm impressed, Wright. You wrote a great article on Adams and you humbled a Boston sports fan...what's your next trick?
Wright Thompson (3:34 PM)
I am going to eat the biggest steak a human being has ever consumed tonight.
Jim Brown (Imposter)
Am I the only one sending in posts?
Wright Thompson (3:35 PM)
damn near :)
Jon (Boston)
Favre 1 Ring, Brady 3 rings....Favre was pretty much a bum for the past 7 years and it showed in the NFC championship game.
Wright Thompson (3:35 PM)
If you're gonna come at me with FACTS...
John Madden (Glendale, Arizona)
This may be true Jon, but Brett Favre is a God among men and it has been proven that his DNA is superior to everyone elses. NOW ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!
Ryan (Los Angeles)
Wright, you have ONE game to win, who you taking? Favre or Brady? Enough said.
Wright Thompson (3:38 PM)
uh... can I get back to you?
Todd (Waterloo, Canada)
Speaking of easy, Does Hotty Toddy mean me?
Wright Thompson (3:39 PM)
everyone is welcome in the family
tom* (parkville, md)
MIssissippi State gave us some great baseball players.
Wright Thompson (3:39 PM)
and also cows....
Haden (Memphis)
Famous Missisippians (I know you know this): William Faulkner Jim Henson BB King Elvis Presley Oprah Winfrey Tennessee Williams Parker Posey and many more
Wright Thompson (3:41 PM)
Muddy Waters. Robert Johnson. Sam Cooke. Aretha Franklin. Jimmy Buffett. Ricahrd Ford. James Earl Jones. Morgan Freeman. Conway Twitty. Eudora Welty.
Joe (Whitefish, MT)
Ouch Wright, the coeds at MSU can't be THAT bad can they?
Wright Thompson (3:42 PM)
hey, you said that. Not me.
daimon (DC)
So where's the best place to get a Maker's Mark and Diet Coke in the greater Phoenix area?
Wright Thompson (3:45 PM)
The Airport Marriott Bar.
MSU Class of '09
I'm utterly disappointed in you. Moo.
Wright Thompson (3:45 PM)
i knew i was gonna have to answer for that...
Diego ((Chicago))
What is a Maker's Mark?
Wright Thompson (3:46 PM)
someone wanna answer?
Christian (High Point, NC)
James Earl Jones AND Morgan Freeman? Mississippi is the narration capital of the world!
Wright Thompson (3:46 PM)
HA! funny...
Conrad (Boston)
Let's say you had the chance to ask Ernie ONE question face-to-face, and he had to answer...what would it be?
Wright Thompson (3:47 PM)
Why football? His love for naval history makes sense. His dad was in the navy. But i don't know why he fell for football.
Christian (High Point, NC)
What do you think about the job Sylvester Croom is doing?
Wright Thompson (3:48 PM)
I think he's doing a great job...
Steve (NJ)
Maker's Mark, Kentucky's finest moderately-priced bourbon, is a gift from the gods. It is especially good with cola, or for use in a mint julep come Derby. It's also amazing for making bourbon balls.
Tom (Chicago)
Maker's Mark? It's called bourbon, but it's a nectar of the gods.
David (NYC)
Here's an idea: Adams comes out of the shadows 15 years from now and introduces Belichick at his HOF induction.
Wright Thompson (3:48 PM)
that'd be a great moment...
Conrad (Boston)
I'm also curious about why you chose the Top Five Books question to have relayed to Ernie? It's not bad but obviously there are more interesting ones potentially..is it because you knew he's a sucker for scholarship and so would actually answer?
Wright Thompson (3:49 PM)
I figured he'd answer and, frankly, I wanted to know. He struck me as a sponge, and it seemed that a sponge is often defined by the water. those books were the water to me.
Denny (Visalia)
Wright, can you only type 4 words a minute or something? Nice job on expanding on some of those answers
Wright Thompson (3:50 PM)
ask me a good question, denny
Michael (Memphis, TN)
Official confirmation on the coeds at Mississippi State - dogs. Do you think Houston Nutt will be successful in Oxford?
Wright Thompson (3:50 PM)
This is my cousin. He is dreaming of bowl games. I am fairly optimistic.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Interesting that with his love of naval history, he chose the Peter the Great biography over Massie's Dreadnought.
Wright Thompson (3:51 PM)
Good point. Are there similarities between those two books in terms of larger thematic issue?
Maitiu (DC)
How long do you typically spend on a piece like that? Research and actually writing included?
Wright Thompson (3:52 PM)
Ususally a while. That piece was a special case, since it was a Super Bowl story, done out here. I reported it for two days and wrote for one.
RONNIE LEMOORE CA
I NEED TICKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wright Thompson (3:52 PM)
me, too
The Dish (Elgin, IL)
What do you think of the job Sylvester Stalone is doing in the new Rambo movie?
Wright Thompson (3:52 PM)
He is pectorific!
Jim Brown (Syracuse)
Good Luck w/ life Wright and keep writing great articles in the future. Maybe someday you will be writing articles on the Jets for there dynasty's in the near future
Wright Thompson (3:53 PM)
j-e-t-s. jets. jets. jets.
Denny (Visalia)
How do you think global warming will impact the MSU Coeds class of 2032?
Wright Thompson (3:53 PM)
well, less store-bought tans...
Christian (High Point, NC)
Based on the books he selected, it looks like he's a huge fan of individual stories -- which is the opposite of what you'd expect from an X and O guy. Dreadnought is more about events overtaking people than people controlling events ... maybe that's why he prefers the bio?
Wright Thompson (3:54 PM)
That's an interesting point. Is your theory that he doesn't see something useful is reading about situations that great men were powerless to control?
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Which happens first: A hot co-ed attends MSU or the Vikings win the Super Bowl?
Wright Thompson (3:54 PM)
Vikings
Denny (Visalia)
Katherine Heigl or Diane Lane?
Wright Thompson (3:55 PM)
KH.
Lewis (Tallahassee, FL)
Stalone is done..
Wright Thompson (3:55 PM)
Nuthin is ovah
Shmessy, Olney MD
OK, maybe I fawned too much last time, but your article is an important read for anyone who actually wants to be enlightened about the Super Bowl this week. We're all drowning in Gisele, predictions, ankle-boot and Manning crap this week. Your piece about Ernie Adams is much appreciated.
Wright Thompson (3:56 PM)
Thanks. I was happy to tell a story that was being undertold, if that's a word. Well, it's a word now. Other than those two books mentioned earlier, and a few newspaper stories, there wasn't a lot out there on him. So this was fun.
Mike (Boston, MA)
This is absolutely absurd and I'm loving it.
Wright Thompson (3:57 PM)
i know. this is wild... sadly, im almost done. wrightespn@gmail.com
Rocky Balboa (Philly)
I didn't hear no bell!
Wright Thompson (3:57 PM)
mickey!
Brett Favre (Green Bay)
I will admit that Brady is better than me.
Wright Thompson (3:57 PM)
damn vicodin
Michael (Memphis, TN)
I physically can't stop laughing. I may get fired.
Christian (High Point, NC)
I'm sure he's read Dreadnought because he loves naval history. Maybe that's what led him to Peter the Great, reading Dreadnought and then reading the other books by Massie. In Dreadnought, you do see a lot of individual control (especially Fisher and the Kaiser) ... but WWI itself is an event that results when everyone loses control. I bet (just based on the article), he doesn't like the ending of Dreadnought. I think if I asked him only one question, I'd ask him why Peter the Great over Dreadnought. That might be very revealing.
Wright Thompson (3:58 PM)
If someone lurking hear knows Ernie, can you ask him about this?
Paul (Sacramento, CA)
Adrienne
Michael (Memphis, TN)
call me later you freak.
Jeff (Iowa)
Just read the piece on Adams, Wright. Great stuff.
Wright Thompson (3:59 PM)
I am about to turn you over to Geno. Thanks folks. It's been fun. And entertaining.
Gene Wojciechowski (4:02 PM)
As Tom Brady's favorite band, U2, likes to say, ''Hello, hello. Hola!" I'm open for business.
Sade (Lagos, Nigeria)
Gene, my sole reason for wanting the Pats to win, is to forever shut up Mercury Morris, Shula, et al., is that so wrong? PS: I do flove the fact there's an evil empire in the NFL, it's about time, there was another one, dontcha think?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:04 PM)
As a kid, I used to sell hot dogs and Cokes at the Orange Bowl during that 1972 Dolphins season. Morris, Shula, etc., earned the right to pop off after going 17-0. In fact, I don't think that team ever got the proper respect it deserved. That said, the Patriots lap them if they win this Super Bowl. How can you even argue with 19-0?
Christian (High Point, NC)
Gene. The Genester. The Woj-man. Chatting on a Thurday.
Gene Wojciechowski (4:05 PM)
The man has no actual question. But I've got to respect the obscure SNL reference.
Tray (Athens, AL)
I just want to witness the Pats make history. I miss it when the Dolphins did it. I wasn't born yet.
Gene Wojciechowski (4:05 PM)
Thanks. I really appreciate that. Now I feel 11,000 years old.
Neal (Philly)
I'm an Eagles fan, but I'm leaning towards the Giants. I feel dirty.
Gene Wojciechowski (4:07 PM)
Don't. You're simply channeling your inner NFC. It's OK to root for a team that beat your Eagles twice this season. They've earned your playoff loyalty, that's all.
Brett (San Antonio, TX)
If Eli Manning lays an egg on Sunday, will everyone forget he took this Giants team to a super bowl?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:09 PM)
The Giants won't forget. Ernie Accorsi, the GM who traded for him, thinks he could be better than Peyton. I'm not so sure about that, but Eli is tracking up. If he struggles against Belichick's defensive schemes Sunday, just remember this: so did Peyton.
EDogII (Bayonne NJ)
Isn't all this Plax stuff a little exagerated? I mean, why must players be so PC?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:10 PM)
Burress' prediction didn't offend me. I'm not sure it even offended the Patriots. But it just gives NE one more little motivational weapon. But I'm with Brady: only 17 points?
Brad (Cleveland)
How can anyone not cheer for the Giants! The Patriots got the biggest fine in NFL history, the maximum, and a lot of people are back on their wagon like Spygate never happened. The NFL destroyed all the evidence and won't talk about it. What do you think about the asterisk on the Pats' season?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:12 PM)
I think 19-0 will erase the asterisk. That said, Spygate will be somewhere in Bill Belichick's obit.
Calvin (Pawtucket, RI)
As a PATS fan, of course I want them to win and although I would enjoy a close game, a blowout would do my heart some good! Do you think the game will be closer than the 2 touchdowns some are predicting?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:14 PM)
Is the number still 12? If so, that feels like too much. There's a reason why they keep building casinos and sports books in Vegas, but I'm not sure the smart guys got this right. I think it will be closer.
Ryan (San Diego)
Gene, in your preseason article you had the Chargers taking out the Pats in the playoffs. IF they have a healthy offense, do you still feel like they could and should have beaten them?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:17 PM)
I said a lot of things in that prediction column. 100 things, to be exact. Silly me. I guess I should have known Brady was going to throw 50 TDs and Moss would become Mr. Model Football Citizen. But, yeah, I would have liked to have seen Norv Turner go at it against Belichick with a healthy lineup. But that's how it goes. I mean, turns out Brady was playing hurt too.
Ed (Boston)
Win or lose is there any reason to think the Patriots won't be in this game next year?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:19 PM)
I was thinking about that a few days ago. As long as they have Stetson Cologne Boy, key parts of that offensive line, Moss and most of that defense (it will be interesting to see how much turnover there is), I don't see why they can't make another run. I figure it will come down to the usual suspects: Jax, Indy, NE and SD.
Christian (High Point, NC)
Last year you were sure Brett Favre was going to retire ... what are your thoughts this year?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:20 PM)
Kind of screwed that one up, eh? I didn't want him to retire then, and I don't want him to retire now. And--this is probably the kiss of prediction death--but I think he'll come back.
Mike(Huntington, WV)
As a Marshall football manager, Ive watched Ahamd Bradshaw for two years and I am not surprised that hes doing this well. Do you think he has a great shot of helping the Giants pull the biggest upset in football history?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:22 PM)
We are. . . Marshall! Well, the Packers might agree with you on that one. But let me say this: if the Giants win this game, I don't think it's the greatest upset in NFL history. I know the Pats are 18-0, but remember, NE only won by three points the last time they played.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
The NFC gets a lot of garbage about being the lesser league. Is the difference between the two all that big?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:23 PM)
Put it this way: the AFC has won 8 of the last 10 Super Bowls. That big enough?
Sup (WithYou)
Is it true that the Patriots team practiced poorly yesterday and got earful from BB?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:25 PM)
There's a pool reporter at every practice, but I hadn't heard that one. I'm sure Belichick will provide detailed answers to our questions--as he always does.
Mike(Huntington, WV)
What do you think is the biggest upset is in football to this day?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:26 PM)
broadway joe's guarantee against the colts. end of argument.
Chris: Detroit, MI:
As a former Michigan manager, I knew that Tom Brady was a stud QB. Do you think he is the best ever? (OK, really wasn't a Michigan manager but wanted to name drop like the Marshall guy.)
Gene Wojciechowski (4:28 PM)
We reward originality on this chat. Moss says he's the best ever. Brady says he's not even close to Montana or Bradshaw or Young. But if he wins Sunday, even his harshest critic can argue with his record. Help me out here, but I think Bradshaw and Montana are the only QBs to win four Super Bowls.
Mike( Grand Rapids Mn)
If the Pats lose does Eli's win surpass his brothers Superbowl victory?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:30 PM)
A ring is a ring, but if Eli is the guy who engineers the end of NE's perfect season than, yeah, I'd say that's more impressive than Peyton's win in the rain against a sluggo Bears team a year ago. But again, you don't argue over the quality of SB wins.
Sup (WithYou)
What was the stupidest question you heard on Media Day?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:33 PM)
The marriage proposals to Manning and Brady were pretty exotic--and stupid. Made for good TV, but dumb. Somebody asked Brady something about being an A-list celebrity or a B-list celebrity. But Brady handled all the questions with amazing poise and composure.
Chris (Denver, CO)
What was the best superbowl you witnessed to date?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:35 PM)
I'm hoping this one will be the best. If the Giants can hang in there, sort of get their Super Bowl legs, I think it could be a compelling game.
Kyle
If you had to choose one guy (from any era) you wanted on your team going into the Super Bowl, who would that be?
Gene Wojciechowski (4:38 PM)
That is a cool question. Coach: Lombardi. Player: Montana or Brady. OK, I'm done. Here's to a Super Bowl worth watching. Take care.
David (Ray, MI)
Who is the next best game planner after Bill Belichick past or present?
KC Joyner (4:42 PM)
It would have to be either Walsh or Parcells. Belichick learned a lot of his craft under Parcells.
Dave (Madison, WI)
Why does everybody think that Terry Bradshaw was a "stud" QB? He put up mediocre stats and a poor career passer rating while being able to throw to Swann and Stallworth.
KC Joyner (4:43 PM)
Can't argue with four Super Bowls. He also threw TD passes in every 4th quarter in those Super Bowls and every one of them was a game clincher.
Ryan (San Diego)
Yooo KC...can we get a cornerback metric breakdown article soon? Jammer and Cromartie have to rank up there at the top duos in the league right?
KC Joyner (4:45 PM)
I'll have a CB article up in the next couple of weeks, could do one on free agent CBs. Cromartie did very well metric-wise, Jammer not quite as good and Drayton Florence did positively awful.
Neal (Philadelphia, PA)
Has anyone asked Donte Stallworth if he enjoys his role as a Patriot more than his role with the Eagles during their playoff run last year?
KC Joyner (4:47 PM)
Neal, Donte filled about the same role for NE that he did for Philly: have a couple of big games and spend the rest of the time nursing injuries. Whether or not he enjoyed it more isn't quite the question as much as whether or not NE thought they got as much out of him as they should have.
Alan (San Diego, CA)
KC, seeing as how the Fins have plenty of holes but need a DT would they be better off trading the first pick down for multiple picks to fill their many holes, and then either trade one of their 2nd rounders or their 3rd rounder for Shaun Rogers rather than draft Dorsey?
KC Joyner (4:48 PM)
Alan, the Fins have to be considering the trade down route but it takes two to do the trade tango. They aren't going to want to let that pick go cheap and they may not get quite the price they want for it given that a DT is the #1 prospect this year.
Broad Street Brian (Philly)
Can the G-men get enough pressure on Brady to stop the deeper routes to moss? Will the decide to simply beat Welker up in the slot and make Gaffney make the tough cathes?
KC Joyner (4:50 PM)
Brian, the Pats have been running the ball a lot of late and given the strength of the Giants pass rush, I think we'll see a repeat of that on Sunday. If NE runs the ball well, the Giants pass rush will be slowed. If that happens, look for Welker to catch a ton of passes. He's my darkhorse for MVP.
Haden (Memphis)
The Saints need a lot of help on defense, but seem reluctant to go after big name players, opting for second-tire guys like Jason David, Kevasian (sp?), etc. WOuld Saun Rogers help them, or hurt their chemistry? Is he a good player or overrated?
KC Joyner (4:51 PM)
Never mind the chemistry. Rogers played terrible last year. In his prime he was every bit as good as any DT in the league. Last year he was mediocre at best. NO should avoid him.
Tucker (Canyon Lake, TX)
Can you justify the Cowboys trading two #1s and Marion Barber for Darren McFadden? I can't.
KC Joyner (4:53 PM)
That move doesn't make sense to me either. If it happens, it could be this generation's Herschel Walker deal.
Chucky (TB)
What are Al Davis' metrics as an owner?
KC Joyner (4:54 PM)
They may not be doing much of late but he's got five Super Bowl appearances and three wins under his ownership belt, and that's more than all but a few owners can say.
Jon (Utica, NY)
If Brady was on any other team besides the Patriots would he have the same success/career? Would we even be mentioning his name in the "Best Ever" debate?
KC Joyner (4:55 PM)
That's a great way to look at it. If Brady had ended up in, say, Detroit, I don't think his career turns out like it did. He did a ton for the Pats but they did a ton for him as well (something I am sure he would agree with).
mike (ky)
whats yalls predictions? min is giants in a high scoring affair 41-35 upset
KC Joyner (4:56 PM)
I agree on the high scoring part. I've got NE by a 38-24 score.
Jimmy (Lindenhurst, NY)
Who will the Redskins next coach be?
KC Joyner (4:58 PM)
If the Giants win the Super Bowl, Spagnuolo could be pacing the Skins sidelines as HC in 2008.
Brad (Cleveland)
Finally, KC Joyner! Speaker of Truth! I'm sick of all the analysts that say Brady would be amazing on any team, when if he played with the Raiders Oline, he wouldn't be as good. 11 men play on the field at once.
Raymond (Baltimore)
But KC couldn't we say hat about any QB or player. If Joe Montana wasn't on SF would he be great, Marino etc. What do the ravens need to do???
KC Joyner (5:00 PM)
You both are exactly correct. Brady behind a bad Oakland O line might still be a good QB, but nothing like what he is in NE. Same goes for Montana if he had played for the Saints or another mediocre club. It's not to knock any of these QBs, mind you, but timing and working for the right team is everything in any endeavor.
Tina (Atlanta)
When the Patriotis win on Sunday - the MVP should be the WHOLE TEAM, COACHES, OWNER AND ANYONE ELSE ASSOCIATED with the Patriots. Just like the came out as a team bing introduced at the lst Super Bowl win ... with perfection in the balance ... THEY ALL SHOULD BE MVPs!
KC Joyner (5:04 PM)
Tina, that makes it sound like the MVP trophy would be something like the participation awards given out for peewee football. It's worth a bit more than than, but don't worry, they'll all get nice shiny rings. Well, I've got another chatter holding up behind me so I've got to go. Hope to see you all next week!
Skip Bayless (5:06 PM)
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Skip Bayless, at your service. Fire away.
michael (asheville,nc)
skip, lebron has won two straight games in the last 30 seconds with clutch shots. When are you gonna stick to your word and dance on the table?
Skip Bayless (5:09 PM)
My point on LeBron is that, just once, I'd like to see him win a game with a walk-off, win-or-lose jumpshot. He did not do that last Sunday against the Lakers, because the two-point jumper he hit came with a one-point lead, and Kobe missed a three-foot bunny after that. Last night, Aldridge and Roy froze and allowed LeBron to dribble right between them and shoot a LAYUP to win the game. That's not a dance-on-the-tabletop shot.
Chris (LA CA)
Skip, do you know taht you make people yell at the TV with some of your comments (i am one of them) why are you such a hater!!!
Skip Bayless (5:11 PM)
I am just honest, Chris. I back up everything I say. LeBron is a 29 percent three-point shooter and a 70 percent free throw shooter -- and that is not good enough if you're telling me he's Michael Jordan.
jason (nebraska)
why doesnt lebron james hire someone to sit in the crowd and argue with him he would be unstoppable
Skip Bayless (5:12 PM)
This is a funny but great point. He's great when he gets mad instead of chewing his nails and getting nervous. Maybe he should hire me to travel with the team and sit courtside every night and critique him.
Majeed
Skip, I'm the biggest Lakers fan but even I gotta admit LeBron has surpassed Kobe as the best baller out there. His last 2 games he's dominated the 4th quarter on both ends of the floor!
Skip Bayless (5:15 PM)
I would still take Kobe, who has proven over time to be the second best game-on-the-line clutch shooter I've ever seen. (Well, maybe third if I include Bird with MJ.) But you are right, Kobe has come up small against LeBron the last two times and has appeared physically intimidated. I've long said LeBron is the most powerful driver of the basketball and attacker of the rim I have ever seen -- a force of nature at 6-8, 260. Kobe isn't quite as quick as LeBron now, and he isn't nearly as strong.
Tucker (Canyon Lake, TX)
More basketball! You've always spoken the truth about the San Antonio Spurs. For all us fans, is this the year that the Spurs are officially "over the hill" as a team?
Skip Bayless (5:18 PM)
I must admit, I'm concerned about the Spurs, a team I really enjoy watching. Parker is out indefinitely, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but they really miss the injured Brent Barry. Finley and Horry are looking old and Bowen has become an offensive liability. Duncan turns it on and off. They'll lose tonight here in Phoenix. But if they merely make the playoffs, they will still be dangerous -- as long as Tony Longoria gets completely healthy with a heel spur.
Kevin (San Diego)
Note: Kobe is also a way better defender, consistently than LeBron. Do you think Kobe could get some votes or win Def. Player of the Year? He seems to have stepped his D up this year (having not to score 40 every night might be helping that cause in terms of energy) over it's already high level.
Skip Bayless (5:18 PM)
This is a good point. LeBron only amps up his defense when he's guarding Kobe.
D (MI)
Skip you have always been one of the few that speaks their mind on bad eggs, so with that I ask you what is your opinion on Jeremy Shockey?
Skip Bayless (5:21 PM)
Me guy. Terrell Owens without quite as much talent. Never there when you really, really need him. Obviously, Eli was a little intimidated by his presence in the huddle and forced too many throws to him. Better off without him, especially right now.
Tony Romo (Cancun)
dont make fun of T.O. Skip, hes got my back, and if you want a peice of him, you go through me!
Skip Bayless (5:23 PM)
Dear Tony Romeo: Don't you realize that your guy T.O. was subtly shifting the blame onto YOU for the playoff disaster? He was crying his crock of crocadile tears and saying don't blame you for going to Cabo when nobody was asking Owens if you should have been blamed. Watch your back with Team Obliterator -- and with Jessica and her paparazzi-tipping PR people.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Speaking of me guys, do you think the Nets should try to get Jason Kidd to Cleveland? Wouldn't that send out a bad message that by constantly whining, an unhappy NBA player can get whatever he wants?
Skip Bayless (5:26 PM)
I was amazed by what Marc Stein reported this morning: That behind the scenes, Kidd wants to play with Dirk in Dallas, not with his new best friend LeBron. So LeBron is playing a dangerous game with his current teammates by pushing publicly for Kidd. How would you feel if you were one of those teammates, and right now your team chemistry is so good that you're playing as well as anyone in the East.
mike (lexington)
i felt like t o's crying after the game was ginuwine....but his motivation 4 breaking down was that the attention wasnt on him and he knew it wasnt gonna be ......he doesnt care about romo...how long has he known tony? 18 mothns
Skip Bayless (5:27 PM)
Terrell Owens, who said he was 100 percent healthy, caught zero passes in the second half of a home game the Cowboys were favored to win by 10.
T.O. (Mt)
Skip why do you dislike the Patriots? And how many more Superbowls will Brady be in?
Skip Bayless (5:31 PM)
You should watch First Take between 10-2 p.m. Eastern because I've been defending the Patriots for two weeks. It's to the point that so many people are picking the Giants or giving them a shot that it feels like the Patriots are almost underdogs. I realize most of America is sick of the Patriots. And yes, they were caught cheating in their opener. But before NE played St. Louis in that Super Bowl in New Orleans, nobody was picking them or even giving them a chance. They also opened as 14-point underdogs. Weird phenomenon.
Mike (Lowell)
Skip, when its all said and done, who is the quarterback of the 2000's? Brady and his 5+ rings, or Manning and his 2+ rings and his out of this world numbers?
Skip Bayless (5:32 PM)
5-plus? Now, let's not get carried away just yet, Mike from Mass. But it's obviously Brady.
Ashton (Chicago, IL)
Say something funny and disrespectful about THE Ohio State University..cmon..do it.
Skip Bayless (5:34 PM)
You mean THE oh-no state university? Believe it or not, I actually and correctly picked the Luckeyes to be in last season's national title game, largely because of weakness of schedule.
Jacob (Cleveland)
Skip, Are the odds better on the Giants pulling the upset or you complimenting LeBron?
Skip Bayless (5:35 PM)
I compliment LeBron on a daily basis -- I just qualify it with reality. So the Giants have no chance.
Mike Ditka (AZ)
easy one skip 85 bears vs 07 pats who wins and why?
Skip Bayless (5:36 PM)
Coach Ditka: You got no shot.
mike (lexington)
Give me your thoughts on coach Billy Gillispie.
Skip Bayless (5:37 PM)
He will eventually do great things at Kentucky. Terrific in-game strategist, very good recruiter. Needs two or three more Patrick Pattersons.
Jon (Utica, NY)
Don't you feel that Brady only has the rings becuase of the Patriots as a team, not that the Patriots team have the rings because of Brady?
Skip Bayless (5:39 PM)
Jon, I still think Montana was a little better, but come on, Brady's playing the hardest position in sports and this season, he has made decisions and accurate throws at the highest level any QB ever has.
mike (lexington)
I watch your show obsessivly . I noticed this was a topic last week. I agree with you
Skip Bayless (5:39 PM)
Thanks, Mike.
Scott (Olympia, WA)
Will lefty be the guy in at the FBR Open or will he fade to the back.
Skip Bayless (5:42 PM)
In the bigger picture, this is the question of the year for Tiger, because I don't see anyone other than Phil having any consistent shot of stopping him. Will the mental coaching of Tiger's original coach, Butch Harmon, kick in now that Phil is over the flu? Can Butch teach guts? Turn him into Butch Mickelson? I have my doubts. He well might win here in Phoenix, but right now it appears only Tiger can beat Tiger by driving the ball wildly on courses that make him pay for it.
Johan Santana
Am I finally going to win a ring?
Skip Bayless (5:44 PM)
You're 1-4 in the postseason with an ERA around 4. You were lousy (by your standards) last season, when you lost some velocity (and maybe some heart while stuck in Minnesota) and you allowed the most homers in the AL. Now you've joined a mentally weak team that suffered the biggest collapse in baseball history. So I have my doubts, Mr. Santana.
randy (dallas)
will jason kidd be on the mavs by all star break and if so is he a western conf. all star ?
Skip Bayless (5:45 PM)
I believe he'll be a Maverick. But I don't believe he should even be an Eastern all-star.
david beckham (england)
why didn't I get the call-up for the england national team for my 100th cap?
Skip Bayless (5:46 PM)
I have no idea what this means, but I just wanted to post it because I think Posh is hot.
Terry (Fort Wayne Indiana)
The superbowl will be decided by turnovers, 3rd down conversions and pressure on the quarterback, advantage pats in all three due to talent and experience
Skip Bayless (5:48 PM)
I agree with these three factors, but I think the Giants have the advantage in the third, even against one of the best pass-blocking lines I've ever seen.
az (Miami, FL)
Skip, why don't you ever smile? Is Bristol that depressing? Or are you just a malcontent?
Skip Bayless (5:49 PM)
You just don't watch enough 1st and 10. The Lebron worshippers make me laugh on a daily basis.
Jon (Mad-town)
Will Americans ever care about soccer? Or the rest of the world about Football?
Skip Bayless (5:51 PM)
Much better chance of the latter. Our football is far less boring than yours.
Bill F Memphis Tn
Hey Skip...Do you think our Memphis Tigers will go undefeated and win the NCAA Championship?
Skip Bayless (5:52 PM)
A decent chance of that. You have the most talented team and a very good coach. But March comes down to defense and disciplined guard play, and I'm not sure you'll get enough of either when you really, really need it.
Posh (LA)
Skip, you are not my type. I like Lebron.
Skip Bayless (5:54 PM)
You just don't know me well enough.
Alex Rodriguez (Bronx, NY)
How many RBI's am I gonna have this October?
Skip Bayless (5:56 PM)
Hard to have any rbi if you're watching playoff games on TV.
Chris (LA CA)
What do you think about Bynum? i know, hes not as great as everyone think she is, but you thrashed him after the draft. hes a pleasant surprise!
Skip Bayless (5:59 PM)
I'm pretty sure that's a typo -- that you didn't mean to call him a she. But I have never been so wrong or so amazed by a player's turnaround -- and obviously, Kobe has been even more shocked than I've been, because Kobe trashed him worse than I did. I just didn't see the heart or the quickness or the strength or even the rudimentary skill, but he has buffed up his upper body and started playing with ferociity and Kareem has done wonders teaching him post footwork. Good for him. Great for the Lakers, when he returns.
Vic (Kailua, HI)
What should the Fins do with the #1 pick?
Skip Bayless (6:02 PM)
They'll probably trade down, but I believe Darren McFadden will be the next OJ Simpson, and I mean strictly on the field. Unfortunately, I'm out of time. But you have been a great audience. See you tomorrow at 10 Eastern when I debate those two knuckleheaded brothers from Atlanta, the Stews. Patriots 38, NYG 17.
Buzzmaster (6:04 PM)
Thanks Skip!
sal (roanoke va)
brady has his rings because of his kicker.
Buzzmaster (6:05 PM)
Yeah, his kicker knocking in those 80 field goals was great. Seeing as how Brady had nothing to do with getting his team into field goal range.
mike (lexington)
that was the great session buzzman
mike (lexington)
haha
Buzzmaster (6:05 PM)
What's so funny?
Buzzmaster (6:06 PM)
I can report that the Super Bowl has officially arrived in Scottsdale. The traffic and people have increased by about 1,000%.
jason (nebraska)
buzzmaster i know you
Chris (LA CA)
i like skip now. he is alright.
Buzzmaster (6:06 PM)
Skip gets a bad rap, but he's one of the best. Good guy too.
joey brown (p-burg,ky)
tom brady is in a class of his own in the nfl, thers is not one qb even close to him
Buzzmaster (6:07 PM)
We've only got a couple of more days before we finally play this game. How great is that?
jason (nebraska)
first name buzz last name master
Buzzmaster (6:07 PM)
You got a problem with that?
Chris (LA CA)
i honestly hated that guy, expecially after that Bynum article, but it takes a man to say he was wrong.
mike (lexington)
o...the kicker comment thats what chuckled me
Brendon (Saginaw)
I don't think Tom Brady is as good as everybody is saying. I am not trying to take anything away from him, he is a winner, no doubt about that. But his biggest statistical season happened this year, when they brought in three pretty good receivers. Conincidence, I think not.
Buzzmaster (6:11 PM)
OK, well just think about this. He had his biggest statistical year this year with those three WRs. He's already won 3 rings without a big name receiver. Imagine if he had Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne.
Chris (LA CA)
i swear...if i see one more Tom Brady post..im going to drve to AZ and put this world out of its misery...how many did you get this week Buzz...10,000,000?
Hank (Portland)
Buzz nobody chats like Gallo though. The guy is money. Where do you rank em? I got 3)Simmons, 2)Woj, 1)Thorpe, Near Omnipotent) Gallo.
Buzzmaster (6:12 PM)
All four of those guys are good chatters. We've got some good ones on our roster, don't we?
jason (nebraska)
have a good night btw no problem here
Buzzmaster (6:13 PM)
Later dude.
Ryan (Anchorage, AK)
What will people think if the Pats win but the game ends up being a stinker?
Buzzmaster (6:13 PM)
A win's a win's a win.
Joe (Whitefish, MT)
Any discussion on chatters has to include Keith Law.
Buzzmaster (6:13 PM)
Another good one.
Wayde (Washington DC)
You know, I really thought that whole "Tom Brady is overrated" thing would go away after this year. Turns out people just come up with new excuses.
Buzzmaster (6:13 PM)
We've only got a few more minutes here people, so make 'em count.
Joe (Whitefish, MT)
Are you watching the game live or from the bunker?
Buzzmaster (6:14 PM)
Either way it's live, right?
Chris (LA CA)
thanks for the O-Vertime there Buzz..have a great hight..and get up early for tomorrow! ill be in traffic
Hank (Portland)
I'd have put you down as one of the best chatters but when you're ether, it kind of makes it difficult.
Buzzmaster (6:14 PM)
You can't capture ether like you would want to.
Eric (VA Beach)
How bad is Eli going to choke this sunday? worse than his brother against the chargers?
joey brown (p-burg,ky)
people tom brady makes other people better, remember joe montana he did not have a great bunch when he won his two super bowls, before rice came alone
Denny (Visalia)
Buzz do you think I would be smart to take the Giants on a money line, uh it's not for me, it's for a friend of a friend's grandma
Buzzmaster (6:15 PM)
We're taking gramma's money here at the Scottsdale bunker call center.
Joe (Whitefish, MT)
Not after Janet it's not. Phew, thought you had me.
Trevor ((alaska))
Buzzmaster your idenity has been found give up now!!!!!!
Buzzmaster (6:17 PM)
OK, folks. I think we're done here. Thanks for stopping by on Super Bowl Thursday. I hope you enjoyed yourself, because I sure did.
Buzzmaster (6:17 PM)
We'll be back tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET and then back in the saddle for another full day of chatting leading into Super Bowl Sunday!
