Buzzmaster (11:59 AM)
After will is Masengo Kabongo, a DT who is going to Maryland as well.
Buzzmaster (12:00 PM)
<a name="hill">We're getting Will right now! Send in those questions!</a>
Mike Smith
Glad to have you at UF....congrats and I know you will enjoy your college experience at UF....the fans are intense!!!!!!!
Max (Des Moines, IA)
Congrats on everything Will! What is it like to have a coach of a major program in your living room or on the phone with you?
Will Hill (12:02 PM)
It's overwhelming. The coach is focused on you, but you're trying to think about which school is good for you. You're shocked that this coach is in your house.
Todd Gray (Charleston South Carolina)
Will I know you were recruited as a Safety but do you see yourself playing any positions on the Offensive side of the ball? Or do you think they just want you to be a beast in the Secondary?
Will Hill (12:03 PM)
I could see myself playing a little offense. I might do that next year.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Will, What Safety do you compare yourself to?
Will Hill (12:03 PM)
Ed Reed and Reggie Nelson.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Hey Will: What are you trying to improve upon, if anything, right now?
Will Hill (12:04 PM)
I'm not really trying to improve anything right now at this point.
Sean (New Port Richey, FL)
Question for Will Hill....the LSU Tigers won last year because the gators had NO DEFENSE!! They let the close games slip away. Do you feel that your presence as well as other top D recruits will put this team back over the top and back to SEC champs because I am tired of hearing about Georgia winning it next year?
Will Hill (12:04 PM)
Yeah, definitely.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Will, Why did you choose to attend Florida?
Will Hill (12:05 PM)
It was similar to my high school - the offense they run and the defense. Overall, it was an easy transition.
Josh, Vermont
Will, what team are you most excited to play against next fall?
Will Hill (12:05 PM)
All of them.
Brian (Yorkville, IL)
After signing today, how excited are you to run out of the tunnel in The Swamp on August 30th against Hawaii?
Will Hill (12:06 PM)
Extremely excited. That's all I'm thinking about - being a Gator and getting out on the field.
Kevin (Silver Spring, MD)
Welcome to the Gator Nation, Will! Would you prefer to see yourself at SS or FS? Also, are you open to lining up on offense on occasion?
Will Hill (12:06 PM)
Free safety.
Joe (St. Peter's Prep Class of 96)
Will, how's the ankle feeling? Best of luck to you at Florida. It was a pleasure watching you the last 3 years.Go Prep!
Will Hill (12:06 PM)
It's back to normal.
Shawn (G'ville)
Will the Thrill in G'ville playing in Ben Hill.I like the sound of that.
Sean - Orlando, FL
Are you ready to compete immediately for a national title in '08? What position are interested in playing?
Will Hill (12:07 PM)
Yeah.
Will Hill (12:07 PM)
Thanks for believing in me.
Buzzmaster (12:07 PM)
Thanks Will!
Buzzmaster (12:08 PM)
We've got our National Signing Day chat off to a quick start with Will!
Buzzmaster (12:08 PM)
Next up is Masengo Kabongo, a DT who is going to Maryland.
Buzzmaster (12:08 PM)
ESPNU is talking with Tyrrelle Pryor right now.
Bloomington, IN
How's the Hoosiers draft class compare to those in the Big Ten? Are we almost ready for a shot at the Big Ten title??? Or should we just stick to basketball?
Buzzmaster (12:10 PM)
Good question. We'll have some Scouts Inc. recruiting experts on later. Be sure to ask them.
Ann Arbor, MI
What's going on at the Pryor news conference? I'm at work, and though I know he isn't supposed to announce today, I still wonder what he's saying.
Buzzmaster (12:10 PM)
He isn't committing today. He said he's keeping his options open. Now, Charlie Batch is advising him.
David (Orlando, FL)
When will Brandon Harris be chatting?
Buzzmaster (12:11 PM)
2 p.m. ET. Apparently he's undecided still.
Andy (Ann Arbor, MI)
Charlie Batch? I hope he advises him to go to Eastern Michigan.
Buzzmaster (12:13 PM)
I wouldn't hold your breath.
Buzzmaster (12:14 PM)
We're getting Masengo Kabongo right now! He's going to Maryland.
Buzzmaster (12:16 PM)
<a name="kabongo">Here's Masengo!</a>
Andy (Ann Arbor, MI)
You might have the coolest name of all the players signing.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Het Masengo: What are your biggest attributes as a player?
Masengo Kabongo (12:18 PM)
My athleticism and my quickness.
David (Orlando, FL)
How do you feel about your decision to be a Terrapin?
Masengo Kabongo (12:19 PM)
It feels good to get it out of the way. At the same time I feel blessed and lucky.
Sean (New Port Richey, FL)
Maryland hasn't been on the map in some time. What did you like and hear from Maryland that gives you hope they can turn it around??
Masengo Kabongo (12:20 PM)
The fact that there are a lot of starters coming back. I truly believe in the program. Me going there will help make that happen.
Greg Baltimore Maryland
Hey huge Terp fan here , Masengo what made you pick Maryland, and whats your personal goals and team goals for this year?
Masengo Kabongo (12:20 PM)
To win the ACC championship.
Chuck (Los Angeles)
Masengo, thanks for picking the Terps. This is Friedgen's best class ever! I'm looking forward to 4 years of bowl games with you anchoring the middle of our D!
Todd (Charleston SC)
what persauded you to chose Maryland over any of your other choices?
Masengo Kabongo (12:21 PM)
Every school I felt offered the same thing. I felt like I could trust the coaching staff the most. I liked it when I went there.
don, michign
do you think the ACC can compete with the SEC and Big Ten in recruiting high caliber talent?
Masengo Kabongo (12:22 PM)
Definitely. I think so. Most of the teams in the ACC are pretty good. It's not as big as the Pac 10 or the Big 10, but I think it's the best on the field.
Chuck in Los Angeles
Masengo, are you going to play right away?
Masengo Kabongo (12:22 PM)
Yeah, that's what's planned. They expect me to play right away. They're losing a couple of their linemen.
Matt (Madison, WI)
Hey Masengo- did the academics of Maryland play a big part in your decision over other schools? Thanks and fear the turtle!
Masengo Kabongo (12:23 PM)
Yeah. My academics was going to be a big part of my decision. I thought of going to international business and that's a good school for that. It's right between Baltimore and Washington D.C. That was a big factor as well.
rerun (su)
was maryland your first choice or did you have your heart set on going somewhere else?
Masengo Kabongo (12:24 PM)
Maryland, I didn't really have my heart set on anywhere until the end when I evaluated everything. I guess Maryland ended up being my first choice.
Joe (Chicago, IL)
Masengo, Prep class of 99' here, just want to say congrats and good luck.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Which ACC team do you most want to defeat come autumn?
Masengo Kabongo (12:24 PM)
Boston College.
Jim in Clear Spring, MD
This defense is going to be nasty. You've got to be excited to be a part of such a strong Terp class.
Ramon Martinsville Va
What made you not want to go to tech Kabongo?
Masengo Kabongo (12:25 PM)
Yeah, they were interested in me, but I didn't really look into it that much. I never really had an interest to begin with, I guess.
Masengo Kabongo (12:25 PM)
I'm excited to start my college career next year.
Buzzmaster (12:25 PM)
Thanks Masengo!
Buzzmaster (12:26 PM)
Next up, we have Darius Fleming, a DE who has committed to Notre Dame!
Buzzmaster (12:27 PM)
Everyone following their favorite schools today?
Brett (ann arbor)
Are you serious when you said PRYOR isn't announcing where he's going until tomorrow ? I know it's gonna be michigan or ohio state but the suspense is killing me
Buzzmaster (12:27 PM)
I don't know when he's announcing, but he's certainly not announcing today. He was already on saying that.
Austin (Lake Orion, MI)
Brett, It's absolutley not down to Michigan-Ohio State. The reason he's delaying is so he can take an official visit to Penn State, and (as of now), Pryor says Oregon is still on the table.
Buzzmaster (12:29 PM)
<a name="fleming">OK, we're getting Darius right now. Send in those questions.</a>
Tom (Chicago)
Darius, how excited are you to play for Jon Tenuta?
Darius Fleming (12:33 PM)
I've been hearing real good things about him. He brings a lot of pressure. Coach Lewis was a great coach, but I think I'll like this style of defense this coach is bringing in. We should have some fun with it.
Ken (Cleveland)
Welcome to ND Darius! What was the biggest influence in choosing the Irish over everyone else?
Darius Fleming (12:34 PM)
I think I was just waiting for the right place. Notre Dame was one of my big choices. I was waiting for the right feeling from a place. I got that when I went there.
Joby Las Vegas NV
After such a bad year for the ND why did you pass up other big schools to join ND?
Darius Fleming (12:36 PM)
It's kind of weird. In the beginning I was really looking at Illinois. I wanted to go to a program that was struggling and we as a team could turn it around. Notre Dame wasn't like that at first, but after they struggled they turned into the program like that.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Have you talked to any notre dame players? how are they?
Darius Fleming (12:37 PM)
During my recruiting process, I talked to some players that were already committed. Those were the kinds of players that were big to talk to. I could see myself building relationships with them. I felt at home with them. They really made me feel welcome.
Jason (South Bend, IN)
Do you feel you can make an immediate impact on the team? and did the great ND tradition have anything to do with you choosing them?
Darius Fleming (12:37 PM)
Definitely. Any way I can, I will. I will try my best to start. If that doesn't work out, I will be in practice pushing the starters.
Sean (New Port Richey, FL)
Darius, what did Charlie tell you was the reason for their demise last year? and how did he convince you they could turn it around?
Darius Fleming (12:38 PM)
The coaches, they didn't give any excuses. It's basically how they handled some things the wrong way. They didn't have any excuses. They took the blame for everything. But we had a lot of young guys out there. I think this year gave them some experience and we should come back strong next year.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Which NFL player did you idolize growing up?
Darius Fleming (12:39 PM)
I used to really like Joey Porter. But I kind of have started to like Ray Lewis more. He has the energy of a lion. He always tries to dominate all the time. That's the kind of attitude you need to be successful.
Mike, Chicago
How big of a factor was it for you to play on national TV every weekend? No other school has more exposure.
Darius Fleming (12:40 PM)
That meant a lot too. For some family members, my grandparents and others that can't get out to the game, they can still enjoy the experience that I'm having. I want them to enjoy it as much as I am.
Darius Fleming (12:40 PM)
Thanks for all the support during the season. Go Irish!
Buzzmaster (12:42 PM)
Thanks Darius! Next up at 12:45 is Nigel Carr. He's committed to FSU and is the #4 OLB on ESPN.com Scout Inc.'s recruiting list.
Tom (Chicago)
I wonder how Darius will feel after he goes 0-4 against Michigan.
Buzzmaster (12:44 PM)
Ouch. That's harsh.
Trevor (TX)
Julio Jones just committed to Alabama.
Sylvain (Charlottetown Canada)
BuZZ u can use some Krispy Creams!!!!
Buzzmaster (12:44 PM)
I can use something.
Chris (Miami,Florida)
when will we get any Miami(FL) recruits in here?
Buzzmaster (12:44 PM)
We've got Brandon Marti coming up at 2:30.
Brian (Chicago)
Buzz! Did you commit to ND too? We could use someone with your tenacity on the keyboard.
Buzzmaster (12:46 PM)
<a name="carr">We're getting Nigel right now! Send in your questions!</a>
Adam Minneapolis, MN
So when are we going to see FSU back in a BCS bowl game?
Nigel Carr (12:47 PM)
I give it a couple of years. We've got a lot of young talent coming in. I give it 2 years.
Haden (Memphis)
Nigel, how do you feel about playing for Mickey Andrews? Also, did Jimbo Fisher potentially taking over during your college career affect your decision?
Nigel Carr (12:48 PM)
Yeah. There is a lot of speculation that coach might leave, but you have a coach there waiting to take over.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Hey Nigel: As a player, what are your biggest attributes?
Nigel Carr (12:48 PM)
I'm very aggressive to the ball. If I see something, I attack. I don't waste any time.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Does it matter what LB postion you play?
Nigel Carr (12:49 PM)
I plan on starting off play at Sam, but then they'll cross train me at Will.
Will (Bensalem, Pa)
Are you an all around player or more of a pass rusher?
Nigel Carr (12:49 PM)
I'm an all around LB. I do a lot of covering 1 on 1. I think of myself as an all around player than just a pass rusher.
Matt: (Columbus, Ohio)
Did the suspensions before the bowl game give you second thoughts at all?
Nigel Carr (12:50 PM)
No, because I was committed since my junior year. I might even have a better chance of playing coming in now.
Adam Minneapolis, MN
Nigel, do you enjoy playing DE or OLB better?
Nigel Carr (12:51 PM)
Yeah, I play them both. I like them both, but I have to say I like LB better.
Sean (New Port Richey, FL)
Nigel, there is going to be huge shoes to fill since Lawrence Timmons left. How do you feel about making FSU forget about the first round draft pick??
Nigel Carr (12:52 PM)
I am not trying to fill any shoes. I'm trying to make my name myself. I'm going to try to come in and make a name for myself.
Tom (Chicago)
Which Seminole would you compare yourself to? Ernie Sims or Derrick Brooks?
Nigel Carr (12:52 PM)
Actually, more like Timmons. I'm aggressive against the pass and can be versatile at both positions.
Sylvain (Charlottetown Canada)
Hey Nigel with the TOP 3 Florida Schools keeping Top IN-State Talent Such as yourself Are you looking forward to the INstate Rivarlies with Miami And The Gators??
Nigel Carr (12:53 PM)
I want to play the Florida Gators so bad, because I can't stand them. I also can't wait to play Miami, because that's a big rivalry.
A.J. (oklahoma city)
How scary is Bobby Bowden? He seems to be a very intimidating presence?
Nigel Carr (12:54 PM)
Bobby Bowden is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He'll talk to you as a person. He's a very nice guy.
Nigel Carr (12:54 PM)
I look forward to playing for Florida State. We're going to do big things.
Buzzmaster (12:54 PM)
Thanks Nigel! He is PUMPED up to play for FSU. It's cool to see that kind of passion.
Buzzmaster (12:55 PM)
Next up is Dann O'Neill, an OT who is going to Michigan.
A.J. (oklahoma city)
That's tight, he's definately on my top 10 need to meet list...
Eric (Clemson)
Hey buzz.. change Dwayne to clemson!
Buzzmaster (12:57 PM)
Thanks, Eric! We got word that he had changed, but I forgot to change it on the chat page.
Will (Bensalem, Pa)
Alright, a big nasty.
Calvin (South Bend)
Cheer Cheer For Ole' Notre Dame!!!!!
Brett (ann arbor)
Any rumors on where D.Scott the great running back might sign ? Trying to find a few things on him but having no luck, heard this kid could be a great running back
Buzzmaster (1:00 PM)
Hmmmmmm. I don't know if anything is out there yet. He was supposed to announce live on ESPNU's signing day show today.
Buzzmaster (1:00 PM)
<a name="o'neil">We're getting Dann right now!</a>
Adam (Dewitt, MI)
How excited or nervous are you with the new offensive scheme that is being put into place?
Dann O'Neil (1:02 PM)
I'm actually really excited. It's the same one that we run at my high school. It's one less transition I have to make.
Sean (New Port Richey, FL)
Dann, can you guarantee an Ohio State beat down in one of your four years PLEASE!!
Dann O'Neil (1:03 PM)
I'm not going to promise anything yet, but I know as a class, one of our goals is to do exactly that. We'll try to pull through on that.
Joey C. (NY)
Is it going to be tough filling the shoes of senior Jake Long?
Dann O'Neil (1:03 PM)
My goal is to go and do that. I know it's not going to happen next year or even any time soon for that matter. I'd love to go in there and be as much of a force as he was. It's going to be a tough job.
Tom (Chicago)
Dann, congratulations on becoming a Wolverine. How much did the tradition of great lineman at Michigan play in your decision?
Dann O'Neil (1:04 PM)
That was one of the big reasons. And that they've produced so many OL and being a OL school. Also, I've been a Michigan fan my whole life.
Austin (Lake Orion, MI)
Hey Dann, congrats on the Michigan decision. How does it feel to be in the class that is essentially christening the spread offenses at one of the most storied schools in all of college football?
Dann O'Neil (1:05 PM)
I'm just really excited. I know if we can snag a couple of more recruits, our class is going to be something special, something that I don't know if Michigan has ever seen before. I think it's going to be great to be a part of this class.
Brendan (Boston)
Dann, are you hoping that you are protecting Terrell Pryor for the next four years?
Dann O'Neil (1:06 PM)
Of course. If that's a guy we can get, our class would be something special. Wherever he goes, I wish him luck, unless it's that school down south in Columbus.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
what OT do you compare yourself to?
Dann O'Neil (1:06 PM)
I don't really compare myself to anybody. It's difficult to do that. One guy that I look at most of the time is definitely Jake Long, Jon Runyon. All of the old Michigan linemen.
Chris (Ann Arbor)
I've read that Lloyd Carr contacting you was a big point in Michigan's favor. How does Rich Rodriguez and his staff compare, in your mind?
Dann O'Neil (1:08 PM)
I love the new guys. They came in. They don't try to be like the old staff. They're doing something new. There are some characteristics from the old staff that were good and some others from the new staff that's even better.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
What part of the college experience asre you most looking foreward to?
Dann O'Neil (1:08 PM)
Basically the whole thing. Some tough academic classes. Fun on the football field and a good social life. Everything that a good athlete needs to succeed will be right there.
Austin (Lake Orion, MI)
Just how much are you looking forward to playing in a stadium filled with 108,000 people on Saturdays?
Dann O'Neil (1:09 PM)
I'm really looking forward to that. Coach Rod took all us commits at our official visit and had us link arms as we were walking out on the field, like we will during the games. He told us to close our eyes and picture over 100,000 fans. I got shivers and it wasn't because of the cold.
Dann O'Neil (1:10 PM)
I'm just really excited to be a Wolverine. Go Maize and Blue!
Buzzmaster (1:10 PM)
Thanks Dann!
Majeed
Scott is choosing between Texas and Colorado.
Majeed
FYI - Scott just signed with Colorado.
Buzzmaster (1:11 PM)
Kenneth Page is up next. He's a guard and he's going to Clemson!
Todd (Texas)
Check Clemson's class out!!! Pretty solid!!! As a matter of fact very solid. This has to be their best class in a while. They have elite players all the way through. Glad my team doesn't have to play them in the next few seasons.
Tom (Chicago)
6-8 291. O'Neil might be as big as Jake Long by the time he graduates.
Will (Bensalem, Pa)
Another big nasty.
Buzzmaster (1:13 PM)
And then we'll have Braxston Cave, a C who is going to Notre Dame up at 1:45. We're all about the big nasty here today.
Joe, Louisville, KY
Hey Buzz-what do you think of Auburn's class this year?
Buzzmaster (1:13 PM)
From what I've been hearing, it's coming together pretty well.
Joey C. (NY)
Buzz, you're the man.
Sylvain (Charlottetown Canada)
Clemson Is looking like the USC of the East Coast!!! from florida to Virginia!!! Where was this sleeping Giant Hiding??
Keith (Dallas)
Colorado? How much did Scott's uncle playing there have to do with him signing? They are a second-tier Big 12 team in a good year.
Jason (Northfield)
Brandon Harris just signed with The U??? Can you confirm?
Buzzmaster (1:15 PM)
I believe he did just sign, but I didn't catch where.
Buzzmaster (1:15 PM)
<a name="page">We're getting Kenneth right now!</a>
Will (Bensalem, Pa)
Dude Page's numbers (bench, squat, etc.) are pretty impressive man.
Shawn (Clemson, SC)
Glad to have you aboard, Kenneth. Clemson grad student here. Was there anything about the Clemson campus that made you realize you wanted to attend school here?
Kenneth Page (1:18 PM)
I like the way the campus is set up. It's not too spread out. And I liked the business school and how that looks.
Joey C. (NY)
Kenneth, are you excited about all these other recruits Clemson is bringing in?
Kenneth Page (1:19 PM)
Yes, I'm very excited. McClain, Harper and another TE have decided to come aboard. It's a great thing to be a part of it.
Adam (Columbia, MO)
I know the city is deceiving but a huge Clemson fan (03), Kenneth how do you feel about the day Clemson is having and being part of one of the best Clemson recruiting classes ever?
Kenneth Page (1:20 PM)
It feels great to be a part of one of the greatest classes Clemson has had. It'll probably be one of the top 10 in the nation.
Will (Bensalem, Pa)
Did you play tackle or guard in high school?
Kenneth Page (1:20 PM)
I played tackle in high school all my career until I went to the ESPNU UnderArmor game when I played guard. I'll play guard at Clemson.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
what guard do you look up to?
Kenneth Page (1:21 PM)
I don't really look up to one guard. I like to look up to how everyone is playing. I try to look at their mistakes and model myself after the good things they do.
Kevin (DeLand, FL)
Can we expect to see Clemson competing for an ACC title over the next few years?
Kenneth Page (1:22 PM)
Oh yes. Definitely. No doubt about that. We should have been there this year. It's all about competition. I think the team will be better.
David:Grovetown,Ga.
let me first say welcome to the clemson family my question is are you ready for the most exciting 25 seconds in college football: the hill
Kenneth Page (1:22 PM)
That's something I'm looking forward to. I've been to a few games there and I've seen them get off the bus. I'm definitely looking forward to it. Hopefully I don't fall.
Joey C. (NY)
You must be pumped to have the opportunity to block for all these stellar RB's Clemson has, right?
Kenneth Page (1:23 PM)
It always feels good when you're blocking for great backs. You make their job easier and they make your job easier.
Wes (Greensboro, NC)
Welcome to the Clemson Family! When did you make your final decision?
Kenneth Page (1:23 PM)
I made my final decision that Friday morning.
Jim (Idaho Falls, ID)
Great to have you as a tiger! I know you are going to have a great career!
Brian (Alpharetta, GA)
Are you good friends with any of the players on the team or recruits this year?
Kenneth Page (1:24 PM)
As far as the recruits, I know a few of them. I don't know any of the players already there, except for the guy that hosted me on the official visit.
Brandon (pittsburgh PA)
How do you think clemson will stack up in the ACC?
Kenneth Page (1:25 PM)
I think Clemson will stack up well in the ACC. They've always competed in the ACC. I think they'll get better and better.
Kenneth Page (1:25 PM)
Thank y'all for y'all support. I'll enjoy being a Clemson Tiger.
Buzzmaster (1:25 PM)
Thanks Kenneth!
Buzzmaster (1:29 PM)
We've got Andrew Sweat coming up next! He's going to OSU!
tom* (parkville, md)
Uh, you're not planning on announcing that you're signing with a new organization, are you, Buzz?
Buzzmaster (1:29 PM)
Heck no.
Will (Bensalem, Pa)
A Pa boy.
brandon (Pittsburgh PA)
Buzz so whos next?
Buzzmaster (1:30 PM)
<a name="sweat">Andrew Sweat, an OSU recruit!</a>
Buzzmaster (1:31 PM)
We're getting him right now!
Sean (Columbus, OH)
Andrew, what are your expectations individually and for the team next year?
Andrew Sweat (1:32 PM)
Definitely for myself, I'm going into spring practice and try as hard as I can. Hopefully I can get into the LB rotation. I think if I work hard, I'll try to work into the rotation. For the team, I don't think there isn't a way we shouldn't get back to the national championship game. Hopefull with the team we have, we can win it this year.
Andy (Columbus, OH)
Name the one thing you're looking forward to most when putting on the scarlet and gray?
Andrew Sweat (1:33 PM)
The one thing I'm looking forward to most is being a part of the team and the tradition. And learning from James Laurinaitis. I'll watch every move and try to do everything he does.
Josh (ashtabula,Oh)
who excited are you about playing in one of the biggest rivals in sports history?
Andrew Sweat (1:34 PM)
I'm so excited. I've watched OSU-Michigan since I've watched football. The winner, even if they're 0-10, it makes their season. I'm very excited to be a part of that rivalry.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Why did you decide to attend OSU?
Andrew Sweat (1:35 PM)
There were many reasons. I visited a lot of schools, probably 20 schools. It came down to them having the best facilities. They were close to home. Coach Tressel is one of the best. I just felt comfortable.
Tim(akron,Oh)
Andrew your a Pa. boy why Ohio State?
Andrew Sweat (1:36 PM)
It wasn't really that hard. I'm not a PSU fan. Penn State is actually further away from my house than OSU. There were a lot of reasons. It wasn't hard at all. I'm excited.
Meade (Raleigh, NC)
Do you have a preference on getting red-shirted?
Andrew Sweat (1:37 PM)
It doesn't really matter to me. Whatever the coaches think is best for me. If I can play my freshman year, I won't. It all depends on my development and that type of thing.
Craig (Charlotte, NC)
Did the decision of "big stars" to stay at Ohio State for another year affect your decision to sign with the Buckeyes?O-H
Andrew Sweat (1:37 PM)
Not really. I committed last June. That was long before those guys decided to come back. It's awesome that they're coming back. I'm excited to play with them. But it had no bearing on my decision.
Cody (Cape Girardeau, MO)
How does it feel to be coming into Ohio State with such a tight knit recruiting class?
Andrew Sweat (1:38 PM)
It's awesome. We're all best friends. It's actually pretty weird. We're all excited to play with each other. We already have a great friendship so hopefully that helps on the field. I feel lucky to be with these guys.
Andrew (Columbus, OH)
The Lantern (osu student newspaper) mentioned that you're a baseball player...any chances you play both at OSU?
Andrew Sweat (1:39 PM)
I'm not sure how possible that would be with playing football at OSU. I love baseball and we'll see how that works in the future. But from a time standpoint, I'm not sure how we'll get that done.
Dan: (Columbus, OH):
Andrew, what are your thoughts about pryor?
Andrew Sweat (1:41 PM)
I thought he was going to go to OSU. I thought he would sign today, but he didn't. I haven't talked to him in the last week. It's up to him. I thought he was going to go to OSU, but right now, I'm not sure at all.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
What are your hobbies off the field?
Andrew Sweat (1:41 PM)
Actually, I'm a huge golfer. That's what I do. That's what I did this summer between lifting weights.
Andrew Sweat (1:42 PM)
Go Bucks! Hopefully we can win the national championship this year!
Buzzmaster (1:42 PM)
Thanks Andrew!
Buzzmaster (1:42 PM)
Next up we have Braxston Cave, who is the #1 C on the ESPN150. He's going to Notre Dame.
Justin (Ohio).
Well since you are going to Columbus maybe you'll get to play with Mr. Nicklaus.
Jason White (kent, Ohio)
Thanks you for choosing Ohio State. We have a great school and the best fans. Appreciate your choice and best of luck.
Lenny: ( Radcliff,KY):
hey buzz,who is next?
Buzzmaster (1:44 PM)
Braxston Cave, C, Notre Dame.
Todd, AZ
Arizona State just got D. Jarret from Oregon. He was rated espn #12 DE.
Byron (NY)
Braxton, I would like to thank you for being such a good recruiter for Notre Dame this season! Let's bring back the nasty! Go Irish!
Brett, Savannah GA
Braxston, Just wanted to say thanks for all of the recruiting you did yourself throughout this process. Good Luck next year.
Buzzmaster (1:57 PM)
Hmmmmm....sorry folks. Looks like we're not going to get Braxston today. Sorry.
Buzzmaster (1:58 PM)
<a name="harris">So, we'll be moving right along to Brandon Harris, who just committed to Miami!</a>
Buzzmaster (1:58 PM)
Send in those questions right now!
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Brandon: What are your expectations for yourself and Miami in 08?
Brandon Harris (2:02 PM)
I expect to win the conference and be in contention for the national title. I want to win the starting job.
Noah (Palm Beach, FLA)
The helmet thing was amazing, what made you come up with that as opposed to the normal hat selection?
Brandon Harris (2:02 PM)
I wanted to be different and something to be remembered by. That's what I was hoping.
Chris, Washington DC
Hi BrandonJust wondering what was the main reason you chose Miami over OSU?
Brandon Harris (2:03 PM)
The main reason I chose Miami was the coaching staff. I felt really comfortable. I was more comfortable there.
Ralph (miami,fl)
Brandon, I just wacth u sign with the U. How much of an impact u think you will be at miami.. and do u want to play offense or defense... Or both??
Brandon Harris (2:03 PM)
I want to play defense. If they need me on offense, I will do that as well. I don't think I can make an impact on my own, but that's why I chose Miami, I think we can make an impact as a class.
Victor Monroe,la
when did you first kearn about miami?
Brandon Harris (2:04 PM)
I became first involved with Miami my junior year when I went to their summer camp. They offered me a scholarship. since then they've been recruiting me.
Noah (Palm Beach, FLA)
When did you know you wanted to go to Miami?
Brandon Harris (2:05 PM)
I think some time today. I mentioned all the schools' names, Miami had a special place in my heart. I want to thank my other top four that showed me a good time on my visits.
Noah (NE)
Congrats Brandon, did Randy Shannon do a good job on selling Miami to you, and when did you know the U was for you?
Brandon Harris (2:05 PM)
I think a great deal of Randy Shannon. He did a great job of showing Miami to me. I want to send a special thanks to Coach Walton. He was the guy that originally offered me a scholarship.
Bill (Chicago)
Who do you compare yourself to when it comes to pros?
Brandon Harris (2:06 PM)
At my position? That's kinda tough. Maybe Asante Samuels, I would think.
Brandon Harris (2:07 PM)
I just want to thank everyone for their continued support. Not just the Miami fans, but the other schools that were interested. Hopefully they will continue to support me, even though I went to another school. Hopefully we can continue to be friends.
Buzzmaster (2:08 PM)
Thanks Brandon!
Buzzmaster (2:08 PM)
Things sounded crazy in the background. Busy day for Brandon. He said he was taking a break from all the interviews, yet he was still talking to us!
Buzzmaster (2:12 PM)
Okay folks, next up we have WR DJ Grant chatting with us, who is headed to Texas!
Buzzmaster (2:20 PM)
Sorry for the delay folks, should not be much ,longer!
Buzzmaster (2:23 PM)
Alrigth folks, DJ was held up on this very busy day, but he will be on at 3:15 today, so less than an hour. Hang in there Texas fans!
Buzzmaster (2:25 PM)
<a name="varner">Okay folks, next up we will have two guests coming on. High school teammates Brandon Marti who is headed to Miami to play LB, and Donovan Varner raked one of the top ATH, who is headed to Duke!</a>
Buzzmaster (2:31 PM)
<a name="marti">Alright guys they're here!</a>
Brian (LA)
Donovan, what sold you on Duke, given they have had tough times recently?
Donovan Varner (2:32 PM)
Them being an underdog exciteds me. I like to start from the bottom and grind my way up. Everything that shine ain't a dime.
Joey C. (NY)
Brandon, do you see Miami returning to national prominence with all these stellar recruits?
Brandon Marti (2:33 PM)
We have one of the top classes and we have some very good local guys and guys from out of state. So in a year or two everything should be good and we should be competing for a national title.
Lenny: ( Radcliff,KY):
so Donovan, what are your goals your freshmen year at duke?
Donovan Varner (2:34 PM)
I want to work my way into a starting position, if not get playing time by returning a lot of kicks and punts.
Noah (Palm Beach, FLA)
Marti, you've been committed to Miami for awhile, what made your decision so easy?
Brandon Marti (2:36 PM)
I was first commited to Wisconsin, but as a kid I always loved Miami. And my brolther walked on at Miami and when I was a little kid I used to say to myself I wanted to be a Cane. So it made it an easy decision.
D'Brickeshaw(NYC)
Donovan, what position will you play at Duke?
Donovan Varner (2:36 PM)
I plan to be a slot receiver and a kick return/punt return specialist.
Noah (NE)
Congrats Donovan, how excited are you to be playing for Coach Cutcliffe?
Donovan Varner (2:37 PM)
I am very excited, I spoke with him a few times and he is very offensive minded, and he told me he was going to get the ball in my hands, so that makes me very excited!
Ronnie ((UGA FAN))
Marti....Was south beach and nice weather a factor in your decision ?
Brandon Marti (2:39 PM)
I live here so I get to expeirence it all the time. I'm used to it. And I do love it. I would not go anywhere else!
Noah (Palm Beach, FLA)
Brandon, do you feel Miami has the #1 class in the nation right now?
Brandon Marti (2:40 PM)
Well look at the ESPN websitre. We have top 10 guys at almost every position. We have 32 guys and one more spot open. So I do think we have the best recruting class in the nation.
Buzzmaster (2:41 PM)
Thank you very much Brandon and Donovan! Best of luck to you guys and congrats!
Buzzmaster (2:43 PM)
<a name="telfort">In a few minutes we will have Brandon and Donovan's teammate OLB Frankie Telfort, an '09 guy, who is being looked at by FSU, UF, LSU, and UT!</a>
Frankie Telfort (2:46 PM)
Hello everyone!
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Frankie: As a player, what are your biggest attributes?
Frankie Telfort (2:46 PM)
I have to say my awareness. I always know what is going on, I call the plays, I run the plays, and my hitting ability is also great. I'm a leader on defense.
Bryan (Orlando , FL)
Frankie , Coach Shannon is stressing the importance of keeping the local talent home , any interest in the hometown Hurricanes???
Frankie Telfort (2:47 PM)
They are not really recruiting me very hard so I haven't thought about them much.
Jack (Orlando, FL)
Frankie, what did you think of the giants victory over the Pats? Did you see that one coming?
Frankie Telfort (2:47 PM)
I didn't see that coming. I thought the Pats had it all the way. Growing up in Miami, you never want to see the one record they have get broken.
Travis (Madison, WI)
You have an offer from Wisconsin, correct? What are your thoughts on Wisconsin?
Frankie Telfort (2:48 PM)
Wisconsin was my third offer. I have an offer and I plan on taking an unofficial visit there to see what it is all about and see how the energy is out there.
Joey C. (NY)
When you make your final decision, what will the biggest factor in that decision?
Frankie Telfort (2:49 PM)
I guess it's just a gut feeling. I guess wherever I feel I fit in best. I'm not too worried about positions. I think I can beat out anybody that comes up against me.
Noah (NE)
Frankie, as a OLB do you like to pass rush more or do you like to play the outside and cover corners?
Frankie Telfort (2:49 PM)
Pass rush is always fun. Covering, I can do it but it's not that much action. You cover well and then they don't throw your way! I like to always be in on the action.
Ross Greenville SC
Frankie, are you interested at all in Clemson? Have they recruited you at all? They just pulled in a heck of a class this year!
Frankie Telfort (2:50 PM)
No, I haven't heard anything from Clemson. I don't think they have come down here for a visit, yet.
Zach (Montezuma, IA)
Frankie, what one major aspect are you looking for within the four universities?
Frankie Telfort (2:51 PM)
I look at the energy of the school. The crowd. I also look for a good coaching staff. Can I relate to them? Also, what type of defensive scheme they are running.
Jeff (Iowa)
Frankie, when I was going through this process 25 years ago, coaches contacted you by mail, phone and in person. I cannot imagine being bombarded by the text messages and cell phone calls. What is that like, or has it started yet?
Frankie Telfort (2:52 PM)
Today would be the first day coaches are eligible to call me. I have received tons of mail. I transferred and my old school is still getting like 300 letters .. they are in a box sitting somewhere. Not sure when I will have time to even open all those.
Buzzmaster (2:52 PM)
What are you looking forward to the most about college football?
Frankie Telfort (2:53 PM)
Just the excitement of gameday. I don't even know. It's hard to imagine. Just the whole thing. I'm excited about college as a whole. Getting away from home will be nice.
A.J. (oklahoma city)
Ok I'm going to be an official Web Scout and ask why those schools and not Texas AandM? haha Bring us back to dominance!
Frankie Telfort (2:54 PM)
Texas AandM! I don't think they even know my name!
Zach (Montezuma, IA)
What will you take the most from your high school coaches?
Frankie Telfort (2:55 PM)
Man, just the attitude. My first two years I had a coach by the name of Coach Cole and he played college and pro. He was really rough and would curse you out. But he was a great coach. He gave me my swagger.
Bill (Miami)
Congrats on being selcted to the Under Armour All-America game!! The players had a blast last year in Orlando and the talent was awesome!
Frankie Telfort (2:55 PM)
Thanks!
patrick (winchester,va)
Hey Frankie have you gotten any letters from Coach Groh at Virginia ?
Frankie Telfort (2:56 PM)
Yeah, I think so. My coaches just told me there is some interest there. Earl Simms, one of my coaches, played for Virginia.
Joey C. (NY)
Frankie, how has your family assisted you in this whole recruiting process?
Frankie Telfort (2:57 PM)
I have two uncles, one has been to the league with New England and another who was a RB for Daunte Culpepper at USF. They have both guided me really well. They have kept me level-headed.
Frankie Telfort (2:57 PM)
Thanks for the questions!
Buzzmaster (3:01 PM)
Thanks Frankie! We're getting Dwayne Allen right now!
Michael (Cedartown,GA)
<a name="allen">Dwayne why did you change to Clemson and how hard was it to pick your school of choice? Monday you announced you were going to UGA so why the sudden change?</a>
Dwayne Allen (3:03 PM)
Not very hard. I sat down and followed my heart instead of my mind. Clemson is a great place and it's unique to Clemson people, like myself.
TODD (PA)
Dwayne congratswho do you model your game after that is in the pro's right now
Dwayne Allen (3:04 PM)
Actually, Fred Davis from USC.
Ian (MA)
Dwayne, how does it feel to be a part of such a solid recruiting class?
Dwayne Allen (3:04 PM)
It feels great. But more importantly, it feels even better to have my mind at peace.
Douglas (Wichita, KS)
Are you ready for 83,000 solid orange fans?
Dwayne Allen (3:05 PM)
Definitely.
Drew (Richmond, VA)
With your addition Clamson has arguably the best class in the nation. Do you think that you will (or plan to) start next season?
Dwayne Allen (3:06 PM)
I'm not sure about starting, but definitely contributing. I'll put myself into position, where if the opportunity to start comes, I'll take it.
Joey C. (NY)
What do you think will be the biggest difference between the high school and college game?
Dwayne Allen (3:06 PM)
A lot of people say it's the speed, but I think it's learning the offense. At the college level, it's more you have to learn why you do things and how do they effect other people.
Chris (Orlando, FL)
Dwayne, how much did FSU play into your final decision? We really could use a TE like you and you would've played early.
Dwayne Allen (3:07 PM)
They played a lot into my decision. Ultimately coach played a lot in that decision. When he left, it drastically dampened FSU's chances.
Taylor(Athens Georgia)
UGA has produced numerous NFL TE's, so why the sudden change?
Dwayne Allen (3:08 PM)
That was one of the reasons that I was interested in Georgia. Everyone talks about Georgia's tradition of developing TEs. I plan on making Clemson's tradition of TEs start with me.
Lenny:( Radcliff,KY):
so Dwayne, what are your goals your freshmen year?
Dwayne Allen (3:08 PM)
I just want to play ball.
Zach (Montezuma, IA)
How well do you see Clemson do this upcoming season?
Dwayne Allen (3:09 PM)
It's hard to say. I haven't had a chance to really get into the offense and see the players we have. But we have a great coaching staff. I know we'll do well.
Joey C. (NY)
Have you bought any Clemson gear since you've signed?
Dwayne Allen (3:10 PM)
Not yet. But I have a brother, the freshman nose guard at Clemson. I'm sure he has a lot of gear he can help me with.
Eamon (Charleston, SC)
Do you see the team integrating the TE into the passing game more now that you are there?
Dwayne Allen (3:11 PM)
I haven't heard that, but if a team has a dynamic player at a certain position, they're going to find ways to get him the ball more, find ways to hide him in the defense. So, if I get down there and work hard like I plan on doing, I have a chance.
Brian(alpharetta,ga)
do you think that you will start your freshman year or would you have a problem on waiting?
Dwayne Allen (3:12 PM)
I don't have a problem with red-shirting. If starting is there for me, I want to put myself into a position where I'm ready. I just trust Coach. I know he'll do what's best for me and the team.
Dwayne Allen (3:12 PM)
Take care. God bless. Go Tigers.
Buzzmaster (3:12 PM)
Thanks Dwayne!
Buzzmaster (3:12 PM)
Up next is DJ Grant. We rescheduled him from earlier today.
Buzzmaster (3:17 PM)
<a name="grant">We've got DJ!</a>
Ian (MA)
DJ, what sold you on Texas?
DJ Grant (3:18 PM)
I was on campus. I was hanging out with the players all week. It was easy to get along with them. There are some cool people.
Sarah (Austin, TX)
Hi DJ. I just graduated from UT. What are you most looking forward to here?
DJ Grant (3:18 PM)
Just being on the campus, period. Going to school and experiencing college.
Joey C. (NY)
Where do you see yourself fitting into Mack Brown's offense?
DJ Grant (3:19 PM)
I'll be playing outside receiver and I'll be a blocker. I'll try to make a short pass into a big play.
David (Austin, Texas)
Who was your favorite longhorn receiver, and which receiver do you think you are most similar to?
DJ Grant (3:19 PM)
Roy Williams.
Sarah (Austin, TX)
Well, you picked the right choice. I loved going to UT! Congrats!
Drew (Richmond, VA)
DJ do you plan on making a big impact as soon as you get to Texas, or do you think that you'll redshirt or what?
DJ Grant (3:20 PM)
I think I'll make a big impact as a freshman.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
What is the best piece of football related advice you've ever received?
DJ Grant (3:20 PM)
Work hard, stay focused. Never give up.
Brian(alpharetta,ga)
which team are you most excited about playing? Texas AandM or Oklahoma?
DJ Grant (3:21 PM)
Oklahoma.
Matt (Houston, TX)
What made you decide to stay at home and become a Texas Longhorn? Hook'em
DJ Grant (3:21 PM)
It will be fun to play at home. I'll have a lot of support from my family and my high school.
Ben (Oxford, OH)
What do you feel are your strengths? Things you need to work on?
DJ Grant (3:22 PM)
My strengths are my blocking ability and my ability to go up and catch a pass. I need to work on my route running.
Noah (NE)
DJ, how was it having a guy like Mack Brown sway you to Texas, and how do you plan to impact at TU?
DJ Grant (3:22 PM)
He's a real cool person. He's easy to get a long with. He's very convincing.
Drew (Richmond, VA)
D.J. Why Texas over OU? And do you plan to start or will you have a problem sitting if you do?
DJ Grant (3:23 PM)
At first I was very interested in Oklahoma until I went on my visit. It felt like the freshman don't really get a good chance to play early.
Adam (Omaha)
How will you feel when you lose to Nebraska 4 straight years?
DJ Grant (3:24 PM)
I won't feel too bad.
Andrew (Fairfield, CT)
What kind of impact do you think you can have catching balls from Colt McCoy?
DJ Grant (3:25 PM)
I'm very excited. He's a very good QB. He's very accurate. He has a lot of heart.
DJ Grant (3:25 PM)
Watch me next year, because I will make a big impact. I will have something to show y'all.
Buzzmaster (3:25 PM)
Thanks DJ!
Buzzmaster (3:26 PM)
Next up is Anthony Dye, the #12 CB on the ESPN150 who is going to UCLA!
josh (happy valley, Pa)
Whose the next PSU prospect up?
Buzzmaster (3:27 PM)
We have Michael Mauti coming up at 4:45. He's the #3 ILB prospect.
E (Texas)
Tell Adam in Omaha that the Big 12 South doesn't play any North team 4 years in a row. If you're gonna talk trash at least know your stuff!
Travis (Madison, WI)
Hey Buzz, Jarell Harris commits to Alabama.
Buzzmaster (3:29 PM)
Thanks for the update Travis.
Buzzmaster (3:31 PM)
<a name="dye">We're getting Anthony now!</a>
Ian (MA)
Anthony, what drew you to UCLA over more recently successful programs?
Anthony Dye (3:32 PM)
To be honest, the combination of the recruiting class coming in and Coach Walker. It's amazing.
Brian (LA)
Anthony, real excited to see you next year. How big a factor was Coach Walker staying in your decision?
Anthony Dye (3:33 PM)
The biggest. He was definitely key to most of the recruits commits. He was a big part of it.
Bill (Chicago)
do you have a number you want to wear?
Anthony Dye (3:33 PM)
Originally, I wanted to wear 13, but that's retired. I'm hoping to wear No. 2.
Brian(alpharetta,ga)
did the firing of karl dorell make you question your choice in UCLA
Anthony Dye (3:34 PM)
Yeah. On more than one level. Coach Dorell was a great person and he had a huge impact on me. When he left, I factored other places.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Which NFL CB do you compare yourself to?
Anthony Dye (3:35 PM)
That's a tough one. If I were compared to anyone, I'd say Champ Bailey. He's a smarter football player. He definitely uses his brains on the field.
Joey C. (NY)
Are you excited about covering all those great receivers that the PAC 10 has?
Anthony Dye (3:35 PM)
Oh yeah, more than excited. I want to go to school and cover whoever and whatever. It's great.
robert(los angeles)
what will be the biggest challenge for you this coming football season?
Anthony Dye (3:36 PM)
To be honest the biggest challenge will be learning CB and S at the same time. It will already be a load to learn one, but I'll be learning both to make a bigger impact.
Joseph T
Anthony did you look at any east coast team strongly
Anthony Dye (3:37 PM)
Not strong. Before going into the process, I was a huge Michigan fan, but they never really caught on in the process. So, not really.
Brian(alpharetta,ga)
how quickly do you think that ya'll will be able to beat USC?
Anthony Dye (3:37 PM)
In my opinion, immediately. I'm going out there to win every single game.
Charlie (Milwaukee)
Are you pumped to have the opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl next year?
Anthony Dye (3:38 PM)
Oh my gosh. There's so much history on that field. That's going to be something else walking on to that field. So, yes, I'm pumped.
Pat (San Diego)
UCLA lost a lot of starters on the defensive side of the ball. Do you feel that you and your fellow classmates can make an immediate impact on the field?
Anthony Dye (3:38 PM)
Yeah, definitely. That's why me and some of the other recruits were so excited about committing because we can come and make an immediate impact.
aaron (temecula, CA)
Had coach walker not been retained, do you think you would have been taking your services elsewhere?
Anthony Dye (3:39 PM)
More than likely.
Neil (NYC)
Welcome to the Bruin family Anthony! How did Coach Neuheisel impact your decision to stay at UCLA?
Anthony Dye (3:39 PM)
Yeah, he contacted me almost immediately. He was hard on my case. He was one of those people that you can't and don't want to say no to. He was definitely a big factor.
Steven ( Sacramento,Ca)
Anthony have you thought about the possibilities of playing on both sides of the ball, and are you excited to play for new head coach rick
Anthony Dye (3:40 PM)
Well, it wasn't in the original plans. I'm making my RB field and I'd like to play some offense. If not, defense it is. I don't mind hitting.
Anthony Dye (3:41 PM)
I really appreciate all the questions and the support. I thank all the other schools for their interest. I don't think there are any hard feelings. I can't wait to get to school. These next four years are going to be great.
Buzzmaster (3:41 PM)
Thanks Anthony!
Buzzmaster (3:43 PM)
We're going to have one of our Scouts Inc. guys on to take some questions on what's going on today with the recruits.
Brian (LA)
Anthony was awesome! Is it really 8 months until the season starts? Oh well, at least it is only about a month before March Madness.
Buzzmaster (3:46 PM)
We've got Billy Tucker and Bill Conley on to chat some recruiting! Send in your questions for them now!
Haden (Memphis)
FSU has not had its usual strong close on signing day. What gives?
Billy Tucker (3:48 PM)
As a staff, we think the academic scandal hurt them a bit. Bowden is usually a closer on signing day. But they still have a strong nucleus on defense. DJ Manuel should blossom under Jimbo Fisher.
Dakota ((Columbus, Ohio))
Hey! Who do you think is in the lead to get Terrelle Pryor? And who do you think he will choose?
Billy Tucker (3:48 PM)
Bill and I think by him delaying, it's in Oregon's favor. They have the best facilities in the country. If he can go up there and see how he would be used in the offense on film, they could be the front runners. I think the delay could be in their favor.
Joey C. (NY)
Besides Miami, who do you think is the biggest winner in the ACC so far?
Billy Tucker (3:49 PM)
Clemson. They're one of the biggest winners right now on the whole day. They've added some great players. Jamie Harper, No. 3 RB; Allen, No. 3 TE. They've had a great day. But we still have Miami at No. 1.
Ian (MA)
Does Florida have a shot at landing one or two more top recruits before the day's over?
Billy Tucker (3:50 PM)
We think most of their class has come through Lawrence was a big land at WR. Losing Buchanan to Miami does hurt.
Eric (Tampa)
Hey Billy... what's going on with McGuffie? Supposedly he hasn't signed his LOI with Michigan yet. Could he be changing his mind?
Billy Tucker (3:51 PM)
We're waiting just as you are and speculating. We think Michigan is a great fit for his skills. He couldn't have walked into a better situation. He'll succeed in an offense that will put him in space. We're surprised as well.
Shane (denver)
How do you assess Nebraska's recruiting class? Not as highly ranked as the past, but seems to be a better fit.
Billy Tucker (3:52 PM)
Pelini's done a good job down the stretch, solidifying it. They should end with a top 25 class.
Bobby (Charlotte NC)
I was just wondering how Butch Davis was able to pull such a good recruiting class in 07 but has fallen so flat this year.
Billy Tucker (3:53 PM)
I think a disappointing season killed the recruiting buzz he had last year. Speculation that he could be looking around probably did not help as well. He could still close on some guys before the end of the day.
Steven (sacramento,Ca)
What happened to Tennessee this year I have been watching the recruits this year it looks like a list of nobodys why
Billy Tucker (3:55 PM)
Not a great class for Tennessee. Fulmer's future's uncertainty might have hurt. EJ Abrams-Ward is a good pick up. He's a hybrid. His best days of a football player are ahead of him.
Ian (MA)
Does this secondary class for Florida (Hill, Finley, Jenkins) fill UF's biggest weakness and solidify the status as a national title contender this year?
Billy Tucker (3:56 PM)
Definitely helps. It adds some depth to a young secondary. All three should be able to contribute next year. Hill and Finley are the No. 1 and 2 ranked safeties in the '08 class. Jenkins is not far behind as the No. 4 CB.
Noah (NE)
Alabama's moved up big time in the class rankings, can they move up even further with some more commits today?
Billy Tucker (3:57 PM)
Landing Harris moved them up to the No. 4 spot. It looks like not enough high profile players left for them to make a push into the top 3.
chris (ny)
how and when do you re-rank the teams when they can only sign 25 per year, yet some teams sign 32 or 33 players (nevermind those who simply won't qualify)? thanks!
Bill Conly (3:59 PM)
A player can come in the spring quarter and it can count either forward or back. Or a player can come in the next quarter. In August camp, you can only have 25 of those kids that can be in that class for that semester. In some cases, some of those guys, if they're non-qualifiers, they can go off to prep school. You can oversign, but you can't bring in over in the fall.
Brick (San Diego)
Is ND top 5?
Billy Tucker (4:00 PM)
ND has a good class, but we just don't see enough impact first year players to move them into the top 5.
Grant (DC)
With Keanon Cooper switching to Minnesota, does Tim Brewster have his Top 25 class?
Billy Tucker (4:02 PM)
They will definitely be in contention for a top 25 class when it's all said and done. The class is impressive after the abismal fall. It's not surprising for him to land a class like this after working under Mack Brown. He's done a good job landed out of state prospects as well as selling it to the in-staters.
Joey C. (NY)
What school has surprised a lot of people by their quality of the recruits?
Billy Tucker (4:03 PM)
I would say Clemson closing down the stretch and on signing day. That may be the biggest surprise top 10 class going into today. But schools like Washington, Colorado, Minnesota are putting together great classes despite not performing well in the fall.
Joey C. (NY)
What recruit will make the biggest impact his freshman season?
Billy Tucker (4:04 PM)
It's tough to guage. So many variables with 17-18 year olds going into their freshman year. Bowers has the skills to come in and rush the passer, which is sometimes an easier transition.
Willie (Portland, OR)
Will Pryor make an official visit to Oregon?
Billy Tucker (4:05 PM)
With his schedule and the hoopla around him, it's tough to gauge his schedule and where he's going.
Jacob (Cleveland)
Do you see any of the OSU OL recruits coming in and playing next year?
Bill Conly (4:06 PM)
It's really an outstanding offensive group with the linemen. The thing I like about Brewster is unusual for a big guy is he has quick feet. He has a chance to be an immediate backup. It wouldn't surprise me if Adams were immediate backups.
Noah (NE)
How will Mike Sherman impact Texas AandM by being in the pros and selling the AandM program to players?
Bill Conly (4:07 PM)
One thing Mike Sherman will bring to the table, much like Weis did, is the type of offense that's exciting for players to play in. It will attract some athletes. In a conference that will play against schools like Tech and Texas as well.
Brian (LA)
Which of the UCLA recruits is most ready to contribute?
Billy Tucker (4:08 PM)
S EJ Woods has good run and pass skills and is a high point players and could get in in certain defensive packages. Their kicker should challenge for taking most of the kicks on special teams next fall.
Billy Tucker (4:09 PM)
Moore has the best speed of any defensive back in this recruiting class.
John P (Chambersburg, PA)
I hear people talking that Mike Golic Jr. only got his scholarship because of who he is, what are your feelings on him as a prospect for ND.
Billy Tucker (4:09 PM)
He's a great player in his own right - a top 5 rated C. He should have a great career at ND.
Rob (Tuscaloosa,AL)
what does everyone think of this years alabam class
Billy Tucker (4:10 PM)
We like them enough to move them all the way up to No. 4, from their No. 9 spot heading into the day. The bulk of their prospects from top to bottom will make up the bulk of their roster as contributors.
Katie (Los Angeles)
USC has had a seemingly "lackluster" recruiting class, by most standards (I personally think they are all great recruits, but overall their recruiting classes are ususally in the top 5 every year). Why do you think this year seemed different?
Billy Tucker (4:12 PM)
They may not appear to have as strong of a class as last year, but Butler is one of the top receivers in the country. They needed to fill their OL depth. Their OL class is up with OSU as one of the best. Nick Perry is huge down the stretch and takes away some of the pain for Trojans fans in losing Adams.
Buzzmaster (4:13 PM)
Thanks Billy and Bill!
Buzzmaster (4:13 PM)
<a name="westphal">We've got Tyler Westphal coming up next! He's a DE and is going to Wisconsin.</a>
Buzzmaster (4:16 PM)
Here's Tyler!
Jeff (Iowa)
Tyler, what do you like the most about Coach Bielema?
Tyler Westphal (4:19 PM)
I think he is a real players' coach. He's down to earth and a nice guy. Obviously when you're on the field with him he's a coach and not your friend. It's nice to know that you can sit down with him and talk to him.
Joey C. (NY)
Are you excited about playing in games versus schools like Michigan and Ohio St.?
Tyler Westphal (4:20 PM)
Yeah, I think it will be a good time. You get to go to big stadiums like the Big House, OSU. Wisconsin has a big one too. I got to go against Dann O'Neill at the UnderArmor game. I got a taste of what I'll be facing. I'm excited.
Aarash (Madison, WI)
Hi Tyler, congrats on your decision. I was wondering what sold you on the program other than the fact that it is your home state.
Tyler Westphal (4:21 PM)
Just the tradition. I think if you go down there, especially on gameday, everything's about football. Just the atmosphere. The coaches are next to none. I took a long look and that was a place for me.
Noah (NE)
Tyler, what are your goals freshman year?
Tyler Westphal (4:22 PM)
Coming in this summer, I'd like to get a little bigger and contribute right away. I'd like to get on the field and help the DL. My main goal is to get bigger and see if I can get on the field right away.
Joey C. (NY)
Tyler, are you nervous walking into a conference with so many great offensive lineman?
Tyler Westphal (4:23 PM)
Yeah, it's not a scared nervousness, though. Going up against guys that are the best brings out the best in you. Just knowing what you have to go against, brings the best out of you. Knowing that you have to give 110%. It's definitely a good nervousness, I'd say.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
What are your expectations for yourself and Wisconsin?
Tyler Westphal (4:24 PM)
Obviously, I always want to win a Big 10 championship. I think we have the ability and talent to get to a national championship. Going down there and seeing how hard those guys work. I think we can compete for a Big 10 championship.
Coach Jones TX
Tyler, Have you had any contact with Coach Alvarez?
Tyler Westphal (4:25 PM)
Yeah. My dad, when the starting guard for Wisconsin was being recruited and played for my high school, my dad got to know him. He's an awesome guy. He knows his football. He's a good recruiter.
victor monroe,la
tyler do you think wisconsin will beat ohio state this year ?and win the big ten?
Tyler Westphal (4:26 PM)
I hope so. They're obviously one of the best teams in the nation. But I think we can beat them. I'm not saying we will, but when you play a big game like that anybody can win. You saw that with App. State and Michigan this year. I think we have the talent and ability to beat any team.
Eric (Milwaukee, WI)
Hey Tyler? How did you feel about your performance at the Under Armour All American game?
Tyler Westphal (4:27 PM)
I thought it went well. Going in, I came in late because my flight was delayed, when I got there, I let everything go. I did well in practice. I went against the top tackle in the nation and held my own. I thought I did well in the game.
Scott (nyc)
what's the worst part about the recruiting process?
Tyler Westphal (4:27 PM)
The stress. Right when it started, you get your first text message. You get all excited and show all your friends. But then you get 30 a week. You have to remember that it's your decision and not anyone elses.
Tyler Westphal (4:28 PM)
Keep a lookout for Wisconsin next year! I hope I do well!
Buzzmaster (4:28 PM)
Sounded like a good humble guy.
Joey C. (NY)
He's going to be a force in the Big 10 for years to come.
Buzzmaster (4:32 PM)
Billy Tucker will be here to answer some questions in about 3 minutes.
Tom (Chicago)
If there's a position that Wisconsin constantly has good players at, it's on the D Line.
D.Sisk (Great Neck)
I don't have a question. Just beat Michigan. Always. Beat. Michigan.
Travis (Madison, WI)
Tyler is off to the UW Press Conference that will begin shortly. Go Red!
Timmi Orlando
How is UM #1? You must not factor in Offensive lienman... They have over 5 LB's and over 5 WR's, who is gonna block...
Billy Tucker (4:36 PM)
You have a good point. They do have an abundance of LBs. But remember some of those guys are tweeners. Some may move down to DE and some may move up to S. But right now with the addition of Harris, their class is too strong with defensive talent.
Mike (Chicago)
Billy who are the top 5 at the moment?
Billy Tucker (4:37 PM)
At this time, Miami is No. 1, followed by Clemson, Florida, Alabama and Georgia. USC and OSU are right outside.
Rick (Tampa)
Billy just saw clips of 2009 LB Frankie Telfort...the kid is a beast!
Billy Tucker (4:38 PM)
ESPN2 just ran some of the clips of the top '09 recruits to look out for. Like Buchanan, he's another LB from Florida that's tall, rangy and hasn't filled out yet. He has good range in coverage and is good in space.
Dallas (Boise, ID)
Billy, are you disappointed in the Penn State recruiting class? Only 1 top ESPN prospect??? Should I be worried as a fan?
Billy Tucker (4:40 PM)
Hey Dallas, not a great class, but a good class for PSU. They have some good talent coming in on defense, led by Mike Mauti, our No. 3 LB. He should join the next great LB class at PSU (he's coming up next to chat). I would also be concerned that Pittsburgh, despite a losing record has more ESPN150 prospects at this point.
Lenny: (Radcliff,Ky):
hey billy,who is next?
Billy Tucker (4:41 PM)
4:45, Mike Mauti; 5, Brice Butler; 5:15, Daniel Franklin; 5:30, Darius willis; 5:45, Josh Williams.
Billy Tucker (4:42 PM)
I have to get back. Stay tuned for some great guests. We'll be releasing out top classes later tonight. It's been a crazy day with a lot of classes impacted.
Buzzmaster (4:45 PM)
Thanks again Billy!
Buzzmaster (4:45 PM)
<a name="mauti">We're getting Mike Mauti right now. #3 ILB going to PSU.</a>
Scott : (PA)
How does it feel to be part of Linebacker U Mike?
Michael Mauti (4:48 PM)
Well, right now, it's pretty cool to be training with all the guys. I'm really starting to hang out with them. Being here a semester early really helps a lot. It's a great feeling to be a part of it.
Leo (State College, PA)
Mike, what made you choose Penn State, and what can you offer as a linebacker coming to Linebacker U?
Michael Mauti (4:48 PM)
My brother started here. My dad went here. It's Lineback U, that helps a lot. It's just a comfortable environment for me.
Lenny: (Radcliff,KY):
hey mike, what are your goals your freshmen year?
Michael Mauti (4:49 PM)
Right now, my goals, I don't know if I'll redshirt or not. So right now I just want to perform well in the spring and turn some heads.
Todd B. (Bristol)
How does it feel to follow in the likes of Connor and Paul P.?
Michael Mauti (4:49 PM)
It's an honor to be even mentioned in the same category as all of those guys. It's an honor.
Michael Mauti (4:50 PM)
It will be a challenge to live up to that.
Daniel (Aiken, SC)
Mike, What's it feel like to get to play for a legend in JoePa?
Michael Mauti (4:50 PM)
Right now it's pretty neat. My dad got to play for him. My brothers also. It's a pretty neat thing to see him around. It's a cool experience to have him around and speak to us.
Mike (Harrisburg)
What would you consider the strongest aspect of your game?
Michael Mauti (4:51 PM)
I would say the strongest part of my game, I'd say run stopping ability. I play with tenacity. My coach in high school always liked to say I played like my hair was on fire.
Steven (Sacramento,Ca)
Michael, How will you feel if coach paterno retires during your time at penn State?
Michael Mauti (4:52 PM)
Yeah, there's a lot of speculation. Whether he does or not, I don't think that will effect us that much. That really hasn't been addressed. The implication that he gave me that nothing would change that much whether he was here or not.
Michael Mauti (4:52 PM)
Thanks for tuning in. Hopefully it will be another 4-5 years of LB domination at PSU!
Buzzmaster (4:53 PM)
Thanks Mike! He was off to a team meeting and could only stay with us for a bit. He's already on campus. That's got to be a tough transition.
Buzzmaster (4:54 PM)
Next up is <a name="butler">Brice Butler, a WR that's going to USC.
Buzzmaster (4:58 PM)
This has been a crazy day all around. Coaches just waiting by a fax machine all day, looking for letters.
albany,new york
USC better get someone good
Buzzmaster (5:01 PM)
We're getting Brice right now!
Luis (East LA)
What are you looking forward to most?
Brice Butler (5:02 PM)
Winning a lot of games. Get some national championships. Having a fun time in LA.
Matt (Virginia, IL)
Brice, what made you choose USC over other schools like Florida State and Georgia?
Brice Butler (5:03 PM)
I would say the coaches. The way the coaching style is at USC. They have a lot of fun, but within that fun, they get a lot of work done. I would say coaching.
Ronald (Nome, Alaska)
What intrigued you most about USC?
Brice Butler (5:03 PM)
I'd say excellence.
Katie (Los Angeles, CA)
Brice, welcome to the Trojan family! It's great to have you! What was your deciding factor in coming to SC, and what number do you hope to wear? Fight On!
Brice Butler (5:04 PM)
No. 12. One of my best friends spoke to Charlie White, whose number was retired. I'll talk to him when I get out there to see 100% if I can wear it.
John (CT)
Did you look at UGA? What are your thoughts on the recruiting process?
Brice Butler (5:05 PM)
No, not really. I talked to them, but I was really trying to leave the state.
Sylvain (Charlottetown Canada)
Hey Brice..You committed to USC before your Senior Season and stuck through your Decision....How hard is it on today's prospects to deal with the constant harrashment from ppl in your own town and ppl who don't even know you trying to sway your Decision???
Brice Butler (5:06 PM)
I didn't really have any pressure from my community and my peers. They know that I looked at this decision very carefully. People that know me know that once I make a decision, I stick behind it. There were some people telling me to go to Georgia, but it wasn't constant. It was more like a joke.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Which school are u looking foreward most to beating?
Brice Butler (5:07 PM)
As of right now, for next season, I would say it's a tie between Ohio State and Notre Dame, due to the fact that there were so many guys from the All-American game that were going to OSU. Out of conference, I would say Alabama. A lot of guys from my school are at Alabama right now.
Mark New Rochelle NY
hey brice, welcome to USC how much did the "hollywood" factor come into play for your descion?
Brice Butler (5:08 PM)
Not really a big factor, because I'm in a city too. Atlanta is right down the street. I'm going to be in a city, so that will be fun. But Hollywood wasn't a big factor.
Charleston, SC Walker Briley
Why Southern Cal. Why not make a name for yourself at a different school instead of being just another star at USC?
Brice Butler (5:09 PM)
I don't really look at it that way, because if you go there and play to your potential, it's good to have a good supporting class. That will take you to a higher level.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What WR do you compare yourself to?
Brice Butler (5:10 PM)
A lot of people compare me to Jerry Rice because of the route running. But I never really got to see him play. So I would say Chad Johnson.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Are you a short yard receiver or a big play maker?
Brice Butler (5:10 PM)
I say deep threat playmaker, but I'm going to get open either way. Any way you want to throw me the ball, I'm going to get it.
Brice Butler (5:11 PM)
You'll be seeing a national championship real soon!
Buzzmaster (5:11 PM)
Thanks Brice!
Buzzmaster (5:12 PM)
Next up is Daniel Franklin, the #5 ILB who is going to Oklahoma.
LA, California J. Knight
Hey can't wait to play with you man, it's gonna be a blast!
Buzzmaster (5:14 PM)
This has been a long day everyone. Thanks for staying in there.
Daniel (Columbus, Ohio)
What are OSU's chances of landing Pryor?
Buzzmaster (5:15 PM)
Our Scouts Inc. recruiting guys seemed to think that Pryor delaying meant good things for Oregon. Because if he takes a visit there, he'll see those great facilities.
Josh (Columbus)
Why does ESPN not rank the recruiting classes at the conference level?
Buzzmaster (5:16 PM)
Check out ESPN2. They're broadcasting the ESPNU show and they keep mentioning conference classes.
Buzzmaster (5:16 PM)
We're getting <a name="franklin">Daniel right now!
Charleston, SC Walker Briley
Hey Daniel, what was the deciding factor in choosing OU?
Daniel Franklin (5:18 PM)
I think the biggest factor was Norman, I love it. It really relates to the town I'm in. It's close enough to the city if I want to go and I can have a small environment if I want to. And the coaching staff, they were a huge factor in my decision. You don't get to play for a coach Stoops every day. Another big one was the people. Guys that I've been in contact with are some great guys.
Ricky (okc, ok)
Why did you choose Oklahoma over going to school in state?
Daniel Franklin (5:19 PM)
Really early, I was looking at UGA and Georgia Tech, but they just weren't a very good fit. I spent a lot of time with UGA. I didn't feel like I felt into their scheme very well. I really liked Georgia Tech, but I just didn't feel like they competed at the level I wanted to compete at.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Daniel: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Daniel Franklin (5:20 PM)
I like to hunt. I like to fish. All kinds of things. I love to go 4-wheel riding. I like to box too.
jon (hartland ,michigan)
what other schools were you considering?
Daniel Franklin (5:20 PM)
The only two that I was seriously considering was Wake Forest and Alabama.
Jason (Hattiesburg, MS)
Daniel, are your hands a big part of your game as much as hitting is?
Daniel Franklin (5:21 PM)
I would say so, yes. My hands are one of the biggest things that help me get off the block. If you can't get off the block, you'll never have a chance.
Will (Marietta, GA)
Great to have another Sooner from Georgia. Do you think you'll end up on the outside or will you play the mike position?
Daniel Franklin (5:22 PM)
I'm not really sure. I think right now, I weight 220, so I'll be going in as a Will. After I gain some weight, I'll probably move back in to the mike.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
What is the best piece of football related advice you've ever received?
Daniel Franklin (5:23 PM)
My dad was a football coach for 10 years and he used to make me and my brother beat the crap out of each other when we were young. My brother was huge. My dad told me if you hit him, you'll be able to survive if you're physical. So, I just attacked me. Ever since then, I've been killing people. Giving everything you've got on one play.
Bob (Dallas, Tx)
Who are your all time favorite linebackers?
Daniel Franklin (5:24 PM)
My favorite are Brian Urlacher and Merriman. Merriman will jack you up. That's the kind of player I am. I'll just get in there and run you over. Those guys aren't fancy guys, they're just hard nosed men.
Donald, LA
what do u think of Oklahoma's chances this upcoming season
Daniel Franklin (5:25 PM)
I think they're going to be really good. We've lost some seniors, but if we can pull it together defensively, I think we'll be fine. We're a little thin on LB and in the secondary. But I think we can be very, very good.
Norman Hugh E. Recsion
Do you think you're a piece to the puzzle for OU to win the BCS championship?
Daniel Franklin (5:25 PM)
I do. I'm not sure what piece I am to that puzzle yet, and I'm not sure with what role, but I know I'll play some role. Whether it's cheering people on the sideline or jacking people up, I'll do it to my best.
Daniel Franklin (5:26 PM)
Thanks for your support. I'm looking forward to being in Norman and making this decision a good one.
Buzzmaster (5:26 PM)
Thanks Daniel!
Buzzmaster (5:27 PM)
That was a great story from Daniel about he and his brother going out in the backyard hitting on each other. But he said his brother doesn't hit any more, because he separated his shoulder 8 times. Yikes!
Allen HOUSTON, TX
BUZZ, ehat a great guy daniel seems to be. we are very lucky to have him!!
Buzzmaster (5:28 PM)
Next up is <a name="willis">Darius Willis - a RB who is going to Indiana. Go Hoosiers!
brando (grand rapids mi)
buzz you really know your stuff!!! how long have you been following football?
Buzzmaster (5:30 PM)
Thanks for the complement. I just follow what our boys at Scouts Inc and ESPNU do. They're all really good over there.
chauncey (teaneck)
what made you decide to choose indiana?
Darius Willis (5:32 PM)
Indiana is right in my backyard. It's home. I just felt really comfortable from the entire coaching staff.
miguel (San Antonio, TX)
hey buzz, I think Darius willis is going to be the real deal!!
Henry (Buffalo)
Do you think you can start this season for the Hoosiers?
Darius Willis (5:33 PM)
If I work hard this summer, I think I'll have a great shot. We haven't really talked about that. You're not given a starting position, you have to work hard in practice.
Lenny:(Radcliff,KY):
Darius, what are your goals your freshmen year?
Darius Willis (5:34 PM)
My first goal will be to play and take the team to another bowl game. Back to back. That's all really my goal. The stats will take care of themselves.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
What part of the whole college experience are you most looking foreward to?
Darius Willis (5:34 PM)
Probably not having to get up early in the morning all the time. Having more free time.
jon (hartland , michigan
what other schools were you considering. Did you consider any other big ten schools?
Darius Willis (5:35 PM)
Yes, for a while, Illinois was No. 1. I really liked OSU and Purdue. But IU was always there.
Drew, SC
How often do coaches contact you throughout recruiting? Do you ever just feel like "leave me alone!" or is it cool getting all of the attention?
Darius Willis (5:36 PM)
It is a hassle, the coaches calling all the time. It wasn't that bad, because me and my coach setup a time and day for coaches to call - Sunday evenings and Monday nights. So I wasn't harrassed by all the coaches. It was fine.
Jason (Hattiesburg,MS)
Do you feel like Indiana is becoming more of a football state than basketball state because of the rise of the Colts and Hoosiers?
Darius Willis (5:37 PM)
Well, basketball is what a lot of people say Indiana has become. But in the last decade, football has been on the rise. IU football is coming. They love their basketball, but they're going to have to split that 50-50.
beano (alaska)
is life alot harder when you are so highly recruited??
Darius Willis (5:38 PM)
Yeah, sort of. It can get stressful at times. But you can't ever get up. Someone is always watching. You'll always be a target. But if you do the right things, it takes care of itself.
Lenny:(Radcliff,KY):
what RB do u compare yourself to in the nfl?
Darius Willis (5:39 PM)
I don't know if I can compare myself to an NFL RB, that's a big, big difference. I would say that I like Tomlinson. I don't know if you can compare him to me.
Ken (Trenton, NJ)
do you think you can be all conference by the end of your career?
Darius Willis (5:40 PM)
If I stay injury free, I believe so. I think I have a good offensive line the next four years. Stay healthy and keep pounding away, I think so.
dan Mt. Pleasant
What advice would you give a football player just into his high school career?
Darius Willis (5:40 PM)
Never give up. Any time you have free time and need help in something, work hard. Even when people are not watching, go at it all the time. Stay good, stay positive. Stay out of trouble and work hard each day.
jennifer (traverse city, mi)
how do you think you will do against the spartans this year?
Darius Willis (5:41 PM)
I don't know. Whatever the future has in store for that game. Whoever watches will see the end result.
Darius Willis (5:42 PM)
I just want to say thanks a lot for all the support from everyone that's gotten me to this position. I thank God for everything. Go Hoosiers!
Buzzmaster (5:46 PM)
<a name="williams">Josh Williams is the #13 DE and he's going to Nebraska!
Josh (Lincoln, NE)
Welcome to Nebraska, Josh. We're glad to have you and could use the help at DE.
Buzzmaster (5:49 PM)
We've got Josh!
Andrew (Phoenix, AZ)
Josh Williams!!!! Welcome to Nebraska!!! So how great on defense is Nebraska going to be with Bo Pelini at the helm?
Josh Williams (5:49 PM)
I think the defense is going to be unbelieveable. The blackshirts will be back in full force next year.
Lenny: (Radcliff,KY):
josh, what are your goals your freshmen year?
Josh Williams (5:50 PM)
I want to get on campus and get on field and contribute to the defense and win some games. Go bowling.
Cody, CO
How do you think you will fit into Bo Pelini's system?
Josh Williams (5:51 PM)
I think I will fit in pretty good. He wants me to come in and be a rush DE for him. That's what I do in school. I'm sure it will be more in depth, but I think I fit in pretty good.
Jeff (Iowa)
Josh, have you met Coach Osborne?
Josh Williams (5:51 PM)
Yes.
Josh Williams (5:51 PM)
I actually met him when I went on my unofficial visit. He's a really sharp guy.
Jason (Hattiesburg, MS)
Josh, how do you feel about the Nebraska fans being so friendly to visiting teams and fans? Do you feel like it gives your team less of an intimidation factor or not?
Josh Williams (5:52 PM)
No, I actually don't think it's less intimidating. I feel really good about the fans at Nebraska. I actually have a friend that plays at Texas. His dad coached at my school. When they went up to Nebraska, they couldn't express to me how good the fans were.
Jeff (Iowa)
Coach Osborne is really funny and very, very smart. You will enjoy being around him.
Andrew (Phoenix, AZ)
Josh, what made you decide on Nebraska?
Josh Williams (5:53 PM)
In the end, when I went back up and got a chance to meet the new staff, the energy that's flowing through the offices right now is unbelievable. That's where I wanted to be in the beginning. I couldn't pass it up.
mif (alaska)
what schools did you consider?
Josh Williams (5:54 PM)
I was looking at Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Kentucky. Those were the main ones.
James (Gilmer, TX)
What teams do u look forward to playing most while at nebraska?
Josh Williams (5:54 PM)
I can't wait to play Texas.
Jeff (Iowa)
Jason obviously has never been in Memorial Stadium. The friendliness stops at the opening kickoff.
Brent (Lincoln, NE)
Josh, have the coaches talked to you about the possibility of playing as a true freshman?
Josh Williams (5:55 PM)
Yes, they actually talked to me. I have all the chance in the world in coming in and playing as a true freshmen. Rush ends are needed. I'm looking forward to getting on the field next year.
Jason (Hattiesburg, MS)
Thanks for answering my question, Josh. I agree with you about the fans. I took a trip up there when my school, Southern Miss played you guys, and the fans were great.
Tyler H - Dallas
Josh - you now have the opportunity to play under one of the best defensive minds in the country, how does that feel?
Josh Williams (5:56 PM)
That puts a great feeling inside of me. Knowing that coach Pelini's defense is good over the years. With his defense and Nebraska's players, it will be unstoppable.
Andrew (Seattle,WA)
Who do you follow your style of play after?
Josh Williams (5:56 PM)
I would say like a Umeniyora or a Freeney.
Aaron(Lincoln, NE)
Glad to have you here Josh. Was it hard to sign knowing you would be going up against friends you made during the recruiting process, like Givens and Gabbert?
Josh Williams (5:57 PM)
No, it wasn't hard. I would have enjoyed to play with some of the guys I met. Some of the guys, I hadn't met, we had planned on playing with each other. Having a bond with guys, I guess that was hard. But it comes down to what's best for you as a person. I think it was the right decision.
Austin (Omaha, NE)
josh, how do you feel about all black uniforms to show the blackshirts are back?
Josh Williams (5:58 PM)
I feel really great about that. That would be really sweet there, to have all black uniforms. To be great would to go and open the season with a win to show we're back.
Josh Williams (5:58 PM)
I'm just happy to be in the family. I can't wait to get up there and win some games.
Buzzmaster (5:59 PM)
Thanks Josh!
Jeff (Iowa)
Josh, I'm looking forward to watching you play. Welcome to Big Red Nation!
Buzzmaster (6:01 PM)
And thanks to everyone that participated in this chat today. We had a lot of recruits on to give their thoughts on the process. I hope you enjoyed it.
