Scott will be by for some fantasy sports chatter at the top of the hour!
Scott Engel (2:59 PM)
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Monday Fantasy Football Chat! I'll answer you keeper and dynasty league questions - also, toss in some NASCAR if you like!
Justin (West Hartford, CT)
Hey Scott. First time Fantasy Nascar-er, and we did a pre-draft rankings and an auto draft. Im gonna win my 8-team league if I got Kenseth, Ky. Busch, Mears, Sorensen, Gilliland, and Smith, right?
Scott Engel (3:01 PM)
I can't gauarantee you will win, but that is a very strong roster. You will certainly contend, and you may not use Gilliland often compared to who else you have.
Scott Engel (3:02 PM)
I can't guarantee you will win, but that is a very strong roster. You will certainly contend, and you may not use Gilliland often compared to who else you have.
Ben (Philly)
Do you agree with TMR that next year's football draft is a best available situation and RB RB is not the best way to go? Who is your top 5/10 overall?
Scott Engel (3:06 PM)
Yes, I agree with him, as there are less dependable RBs seemingly than ever before, and you should get the most reliable early - LT, Peterson, Brady, Manning, Addai, Westbrook, Steven Jackson, Moss, Brown, Lynch
Jordan (Peoria)
In a H2H baseball draft, do you look for balance or do you go heavy offense or heavy pitching at the begining?
Scott Engel (3:07 PM)
I go with guys who tend not ot be streaky, especially from the pitching perspective - I would rather have Reyes in roto than head to head
Dave (NYC)
I'm keeping Howard, Braun, Beltran, Crawford, and Bedard. How insane is it to keep Liriano over Markakis
Scott Engel (3:09 PM)
Not crazy - you have a good offensive core and Liriano can be great, so he is worth the risk
Jay (San Diego)
NASCAR question: Outside the household names, who do you see making some noise at Daytona Sunday?
Scott Engel (3:10 PM)
Gilliland has to be noted ona restictor plate race, and Blaney is running well. I am also looking for th ebeginning of a season of improvements from Reed Sorenson
Dave (Santa Rosa, CA)
What side of a trade of Burress and Jacobs for L.White and S.Smith side do you prefer?
Scott Engel (3:12 PM)
I would much rather get Burress, who really clicks with Eli, while Smith ha struggled to stay reliable over the past two years. Jacobs and White are pretty much a wash
Alan(state college)
How do you see the tampa rb situation playing out in 08 and where would you rank them?
Scott Engel (3:13 PM)
Cadillac's outlook is VERY cloudy - I expect Graham to open the year as the main guy and a top 15 RB
Alan(Charlotte)
What kind of value do these backs have in 08: Edge, Rudi, Earnest Graham?
Scott Engel (3:14 PM)
Edge could see a rise in value if he is moved, otherwise much the same. Rudi could end up sharing carries. He won't be a reliable starter
Mike (San Diego)
wainright or mcgowan
Scott Engel (3:17 PM)
Both can be pretty good this year, but I like McGowan fitting in nicely as a third starter for Toronto
Moe
If Jeff Gordon a good driver for this year?
Scott Engel (3:18 PM)
Only Jimmie Johnson may be better - Gordon needs to run slightly faster and finish better more often to be the very best
Dan (Ohio)
What kind of year do you expect Thomas Jones to have in 08?
Scott Engel (3:19 PM)
It really depends on what the Jets do in the offseason around him - at best, though, he will be a respectable No. 2 fantasy RB
Larry
Who is the best Arena League QB?
Scott Engel (3:22 PM)
Mark Grieb of San Jose is the most steady - but Bonner on Chicago this year could outdo all others - which will make the Rush a great selection in our AFL Pick Em game
Tifany (NYC)
Do you think Rivers, Tomlinson, or Gates injuries will affect their fantasy impact next year?
Scott Engel (3:23 PM)
Rivers is the only one who is a real risk, but he should be ready for the regular season and I would not have major worries about any of the three
Bruiser Ball (Chicago)
Follow up to your answer on the Rush - is there any week you wouldn't select the Rush to win? Possible undefeated season?
Scott Engel (3:25 PM)
I think it will be too tough to go undefeated, and you shouldn't hope for that. Be happy that they will contend for an AFL title. the season finale against Dallas is a game where I may avoid them
Erik (Philly)
pick 2 please from Henry, Grant, S.Smith, and McNabb
Scott Engel (3:26 PM)
Grant is set to be a star for awhile, and Smith still has the chance to rebound if Delhomme comes back effectively and the offesne gains some more balance
Ben (Philly)
Scott, you mentioned Edge possibly moving? Where could he be going?
Scott Engel (3:28 PM)
Too early to project a destination, but there have been rumblings the Cards could go with a younger RB
Alan(Charlotte)
Who do you see mainly carrying the ball in Detroits new balanced offense? How much value do they have?
Scott Engel (3:30 PM)
I believe it would be Jones, but he has so much trouble staying healthy, I would not be surprised to see the Lions acquire or draft another RB
Josh (NC)
How about A. Gonzalez in Indy? Even with a healthy M. Harrison, can this guy put up good numbers and be a regular starter?
Scott Engel (3:32 PM)
Definitely - Harrison seems to be wearing down - Gonzalez has the faith of Peyton, runs sharp routes and has good hands - he has great upside for 2008
Corey (Philadelphia)
Hey Scott, do you see Larry Fitzgerald moving this offseason? He is due a big pay riase from performance incentives.
Scott Engel (3:32 PM)
The Cards reportedly are working on a deal to keep him in Arizona for awhile, and he will remain a top 10 fantasy WR
No. 88 (Daytona)
Yo Scotty, tried out the new Fantasy racing game on ESPN, looks like it's going to be a cool game. How do you like my championship team (6 team league, I had the 5th pick) Junior, Edwards, Newman, McMurray, Yeley. Also, how do you like Junior's chances on Sunday?
Scott Engel (3:36 PM)
I LOVE the new FSR game! It's time has certainly come - your first three drivers are strong, but McMurray may frustrate you - I like Junior a lot at a restrictor plate race with the Hendrick pedigree
Ben (Philly)
Odds on Roy Williams out of Detorit? As a Philly fan, any rumor I hear of a WR wanting out of thier city I jump on like white on rice.
Scott Engel (3:38 PM)
Have not heard such a thing yet, and it's a bit early for more than a sprinkle of rumors - that said, I think the Eagles will certainly make a needed move ot get another playmaker in the passing game
Ethan (Memphis)
Can only keep one, who should it be...SJax or LJ?
Scott Engel (3:39 PM)
Jackson is still eraly in his career and will be more versatile than Johnson, plus the Rams have a better passing game to balance things out
Ed (J'ville)
Scott, is it worth keeping either Hasselbeck (7th) or Cutler (9th)? I have three spots in a 12 team league.
Scott Engel (3:40 PM)
I like keeping Hasselbeck there - he is very reliable and could have another very good year as Holmgren enters his final campaign
GM (New Jersey)
Hey Scott, do you think Larry Johnson is gonna recover from his struggles of last year?
Scott Engel (3:41 PM)
He could start slowly, as he had foot problems and it remains to be seen how the offensive line will be retooled - he will be worth a second-rounder
Tifany (NYC)
Which rookie from this upcoming draft will have the biggest fantasy impact?
Scott Engel (3:42 PM)
I would like to see where players land before making such an estimation - I would like to say just more than McFadden
Tyler (Philly)
Scott, who do you see being for valuble in fantasy next year: A healthy McNabb or a healthy Bulger?
Scott Engel (3:42 PM)
A healthy McNabb - he will get better pass protection and will spread the ball around more effectively
Tyler (Philly)
Hey Scott, where do you see the whole Randy Moss situation playing out, do you see him taking more money to leave?
Scott Engel (3:44 PM)
They will likely franchise him and then maybe work out an extension, pretty much assuring he stays in NE and remains atop the fantasy WR ranks
Tifany (NYC)
Peyton or Brady?
Scott Engel (3:44 PM)
You can't go wrong either way, but Brady has a deeper receiving crew
Rod (Cleveland)
Think Fast Willie Parker with have a rebound TD year? I mean it has to get better than last.
Scott Engel (3:47 PM)
He should be ready for the 2008 season, but I don't think we wille ver see 2006 numbers again - I think the Steelers really want a physical complement - he'll be a good No. 2 fantasy RB
King (NYC)
DESPERATE NEED OF HELP pick 3 - Brees, Anderson, Gore, Jacobs, DeAngelo Williams, T.J. Housh, A. Johnson
Scott Engel (3:48 PM)
I would take one player to anchor each position- Brees for high-level, steady QB play, Houshmandzadeh for outstanding WR numbers, and Gore for the upside that remains
Ryan (PA)
Hey Scott, I have the first pick in my supplemental draft. We can pcik any player not under contract from last season but we have to pay the salary he had. With that said I can get Ryan Grant for $75 in a $350 cap league. Good value or to much? I also have Cutler@$40, Michael Turner@$26, Brandon Marshall@$10.
Scott Engel (3:50 PM)
That's about right, especially if you can combine him with Turner if he lands somewhere else as a free agent
Chris (Philly)
Do you think McFadden can be a instant fantasy star ala Peterson last year or move of a Reggie Bush type?
Scott Engel (3:51 PM)
Again, it depends on where he lands. Peterson was fortunate to land on a team with a superb offensive line. If Dallas deals for the top pick, McFadden can make an instant impact.
jason (nebraska)
are you related to the pro wrestler kurt engel are the magician criss engel
Scott Engel (3:52 PM)
No, but I am related to longtime pro wrestling expert/guru Bill Apter
Jack (Houston)
Will anyone in the next 5 years replace AROD as the best player in the league?
Scott Engel (3:55 PM)
Considering A-Rod is 32, he'll remain among the elite. He can remain the top guy for at least the next three years - Reyes doesn;t have enough power to surpass him, but Wright could challenge, but I don;t think whether he is No. 1 or not is a big deal. he is going to remain elite and you only get one first-rounder, and he'll remain worthy of that stature
Joe (NYC)
3 to keep please: Brady, S-Jax, R. Grant, Antonio Gates. i lose first 3 rounds of picks. thanks!
Scott Engel (3:56 PM)
Brady, Jackson and Gates should ste you up well for awhile. Grant looks good, but must prove he can do it over the full year first
jason (nebraska)
since this is fantasy is it just fantasy or do the chiefs have a chance of making the playoffs next year and what they need to make it happen
Scott Engel (3:57 PM)
Need to retsock the offensive line, get another playmaker at WR and add more push in the front 7 - with Croyle at QB, I say no
jason (nebraska)
bill apter i know that name what does he do
Scott Engel (3:59 PM)
Longtime senior editor of Pro Wrestling Illustrated and WOW Magazine, now at 1wrestling.com - the "Apter mags" were legendary during wrestling's most successful eras
Chris (Baltimore, MD)
Was the "safe" Brown you mentioned early in the chat Ronnie Brown?!?!
Scott Engel (4:01 PM)
I mentioned Borwn in my top 10, but he's obviously a risk - but the upside is huge. And I would rather take a chance on him early than a lot of other RBs Thanks a lot everyone!
