Chat with former Michigan OT Jake Long

Long allowed just one sack in his entire senior season at Michigan - and that was against fellow elite draft prospect Vernon Gholston of Ohio State. He was named a consensus All-Amercia the past two seasons, only the 11th time a Michigan player has done that. He was also just the fifth two-time Big Ten offensive lineman of the year.
According to Long's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, Long "has outstanding experience to go along with his massive frame and quick feet. While he doesn't possess elite mobility, he clearly has enough physically and mentally to quickly emerge as a solid starter in the NFL -- and remain one for years to come."
Send in your questions now, then join Long on Friday at 3 p.m. ET!

Jake will be here in a few minutes!
Bob (Philly PA)
What was the worst place to play on the road?
Jake Long (3:00 PM)
It has to be Ohio State. Their place holds 100,000+ and they are really loud and the fnas hate us. It is an insane environment.
Tom (Chicago)
Do you talk to any UM alum that are currently in the NFL (Hutchinson, Backus, etc.?)
Jake Long (3:02 PM)
Yeah I ahve not talked to them recently, but I did talk to Jansen at the Ohio State game, as well as Hutch and Backus. They are great guys and had a lot of knowledge to share about the NFL, regarding the combine and things of that nature.
Justin (St. Louis)
You had an amazing career in Michigan. It seems you like Blue and Gold would you be interested in playing for those same colors in St. Louis?
Jake Long (3:03 PM)
It does not matter where I go. It does not matter who I play for. It will be an honor to get drafted and just play in the NFL. I am excited just to play in the league.
di (voorhees)
at michigan while going to class did mike hart always walk behind you as if you were blocking his way to class?
Jake Long (3:04 PM)
No! Not to many people tried to tackle him on the way to class!
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
Thus far in your career, what has been your biggest accomplishment?
Jake Long (3:05 PM)
It would have to be being voted captain two years in a row. Coach Carr always said the biggest honor you can get at Michigan is getting elected captain and I got it twivce. It was a great honor and accomplishment for me.

Wow im a buckeye fan talking to a guy from the team up north but what is your favorite NFL team?
Jake Long (3:06 PM)
I grew up in Michigan, so I was a huge Lions fan. My dad would take me and my brothers to practices and games at the Silverdome.
sheri(sylvania,ohio)
What was the weirdest question you got at the combine???
Jake Long (3:08 PM)
I can't even remember, because I did so many interviews. But someone did ask me if I were an animal would I be a cat or a dog, so that was a weird question. I said a dog, by the way.
Jon (NJ)
How do you get along with players from Ohio State now that you are not mortal enemies?
Jake Long (3:09 PM)
I get along with them great. I actually was at an award banquet with Leuranitis and he is a great guy. I liked haging out with him. And training out here I was with Gholston who is also a great guy. I respect them, Ohio State, and what they have accomplished.
T.J. (Springfield, MO)
Jake, what do you say to the criticisms regarding your footwork against speed rushers?
Jake Long (3:11 PM)
I just have to work hard on that and correct whatever weaknesses people think I have. I always work hard to correct any mistakes I make, so I do not make that mistake again. People are saying that it is a weak part of my game, so I am going to be sure to work very hard on it.
Sam (Chicago)
How did it feel to give Lloyd Carr a win in his final game?
Jake Long (3:12 PM)
It felt amazing. Last season was not the season we were hoping for, but we had our hands full with a great Florida team and the seniors really stepped up. We just wanted to send coach Carr and the seniors out with a win, and it felt great.
Jason (TN)
Who was the hardest player that you had to block??
Jake Long (3:13 PM)
I think this year it was Vernon Gholston and Derrick Harvey from Florida. Vernon is freakishly strong and fast, as it Harvey. They are both so quick and can play the run as well.
amy:maumee,ohio
Jake what is your impression of Rich Rod???
Jake Long (3:15 PM)
Actually, I have not met him. I am looking forward to going back to Ann Arbor and meeting him in a few weeks. I hope he comes in and does great thing. I know he will do great things and keep the great tradition we have going. But I have not met him yet, so I can't tell you much beyond that.
Anthony (PA)
How would you rate your performance at the combine, and if you could do it again, would you do anything differently?
Jake Long (3:16 PM)
I felt I playd very well. I think the coaches and scouts I met with liked what I did in the interview room and on the field. If I had to do it again I do not think I would change a thing, because I worked as hard as I could.
Mike (Boston)
Which NFL offensive lineman do you think best campares to you?
Jake Long (3:17 PM)
I think someone like Matt Light, who is very sound as far as technique, and who has a nasty streak, matches the type of player I am. I try to be nasty and do the little things right, and I love to play. So I would compare myself to Matt Light.
Tricia (Ann Arbor, MI)
In every game I noticed you were the first player to assist Mike Hart to get up after he was tackled. Do you plan on doing this for whoever you are blocking for in the NFL?
Jake Long (3:18 PM)
Absolutely. As a lineman you have to block for your RB and clear off that pile and help him up when he has three or four people on him. I always did that for Mike and I plan on doing it in the NFL.
Scott, Texas
Jake, Great career at Michigan. Do you feel that you should be the first pick and if so, why? Go Blue!
Jake Long (3:21 PM)
Well I have worked my whole life to get here, and done everything I can. I just have to keep working hard and if it happens it happens, but it does not matter if I get drafted number one or number twenty; I will love wherever I go. Now it is up to the teams, and we will see what happens when the draft gets here.
Evan NYC
Jake- What is your greatest memory from playing football at Michigan. On or off the field?
Jake Long (3:22 PM)
I think just playing in the Big House. Being in the locker room and going out in front of all those fans on Saturday is something that will always say with me. I still gives me tingles when I think about it now, and I think it is one of the greatest memories any Michigan player has.
Jake Long (3:23 PM)
Thanks a lot for the questions, and I will be working hard and doing my best to make everyone proud!
