Chat with former ASU C Mike Pollak

Pollak played in every game in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. He started every game of his junior and senior years. As a senior, he earned First-Team All-Pac-10 honors. He earned Arizona State's Tim Landers Iron Man of the Year Award Sun Devil, by showing exemplary work ethic in the weight room, on the field or in the community.
According to Pollak's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, Pollak's "size and strength are adequate but he's not going to overpower many defenders and we would like to see him play with a bit more of a mean streak. With that in mind, Pollak should be one of the top two centers selected in April's draft and he's worth a late-second or early-third round pick for a team employing a zone-blocking scheme on offense."

Mike Pollak (2:29 PM)
Hey everyone!
Charlie (Milwaukee)
How excited are you to move on to the next level?
Mike Pollak (2:29 PM)
This has been my dream ever since I started playing, so it's very exciting right now.
Lance (Chicago)
I've seen many people rank you as the top center in the draft. What do you think of that?
Mike Pollak (2:30 PM)
Everybody has their own opinions, but I'm glad people think I'm the number one guy, because that's what I believe myself.
Aaron (Florida)
Were you happy with your combine performance?
Mike Pollak (2:30 PM)
I felt like I performed very well at the combine, and I was very happy with the numbers I put up.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What NFL center do you compare yourself to?
Mike Pollak (2:31 PM)
I would say probably Olin Kreutz from Chicago. He's not the biggest guy in the NFL, but he works hard to be the best at his position.
Sam (Boston)
What was your most memorable moment at ASU?
Mike Pollak (2:32 PM)
Beating U of A at their place. There's no greater feeling than beating your rival at home.
bill (ga)
Have you gotten any indication from the teams you've talked with where you might land in the draft?
Mike Pollak (2:32 PM)
Right now it's still up in the air. A lot of it depends on free agency and who has a need for a center come draft time.
xandra (portland, OR)
what have you been doing since the combine?
Mike Pollak (2:33 PM)
I'm still working at Athletes' Performance Inc., and individual workouts for different teams.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
Mike, What are you going to miss most playing at Arizona State?
Mike Pollak (2:34 PM)
Just playing in front of our great fans. We've got a great fanbase in Tempe.
Jason (Chicago)
What has been more stressful - getting recruited for college or preparing for the NFL draft?
Mike Pollak (2:35 PM)
Definitely preparing for the draft. You're making a decision where you want to play when you're getting recruited, but this is my career for the rest of my life, so it's way bigger.
Vic (New Jersey)
How fun is it to see all the different guys working out at API? Does it get competitive?
Mike Pollak (2:35 PM)
Not really, there's such a great group of guys there working out. We've really gotten to know each other.
John (Maine)
how long each day do you work out?
Mike Pollak (2:36 PM)
Now that the combine's done, it was half a day, but beforehand, it was pretty much an all-day workout.
Paul (Connecticut)
what was the hardest part of the combine?
Mike Pollak (2:37 PM)
It's a mental grind, because you have to be on your A-game the entire time you're there. It's nonstop from morning until night.
Vicki (New Jersey)
what other sports did you play in high school?
Mike Pollak (2:37 PM)
I was a baseball player in high school. I pitched and played first base.
Nick (New York)
How many teams have you talked with leading up to the draft?
Mike Pollak (2:38 PM)
I would say about three quarters of the NFL teams at the combine.
Amanzio, Raleigh NC
Hi Mike, Who is the best center in the Pac-10 next year?
Mike Pollak (2:38 PM)
The center from Cal is going to be pretty good. He didn't come out this year, but he'll probably be the best next year.
Keith (Austin)
What DTs provided the biggest challenge on the field? You faced some real monsters (Sedrick Ellis, Frank Okam) in your college career.
Mike Pollak (2:39 PM)
I would say Ellis was the best defensive player I've faced the past few seasons. He's such a big guy and very quick.
Ken (Tarzana, CA)
What was the biggest difference between playing for Coach Erickson and Coach Koetter?
Mike Pollak (2:39 PM)
They just have different personalities. I really enjoyed playing for both of them.
Vance (Philadelphia)
What did you learn at ASU that helped you prepare for the next level?
Mike Pollak (2:40 PM)
Just improving my work ethic. I've prepared second-to-none, and the guys who went through the program at ASU helped instill that.
Mike Pollak (2:40 PM)
Thanks for the questions!
