Chat with former Oregon RB Jonathan Stewart

Stewart, a junior, led Oregon in rushing his final two years. In 2007, he rushed for 1,722 yards, which was fifth in the country. He also had 11 TDs. His 280 carries was 11th in the country and his 6.2 yards per carry was tied for 7th among running backs with over 1,000 yards rushing.
According to Stewart's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, Stewart "has a chance to emerge as one of the premier playmakers at the running back position. He is a compact runner with an outstanding combination of quickness, vision, body control and open-field burst. He also brings versatility to the table with soft hands as a receiver and an outstanding collegiate resume returning kicks."

What's your favorite pre game meal?
Jonathan Stewart (3:48 PM)
Chicken. Chicken breast and some marinara sauce.
Tom (West Bloomfield, MI)
How is your toe?
Jonathan Stewart (3:48 PM)
My toe is getting better. I just had surgery. It's coming along. It will be ready to go a couple of months.
Allan (Seattle, WA)
Who was your favorite team as a kid?
Jonathan Stewart (3:49 PM)
Dallas Cowboys. I'm an Emmitt Smith fan.
Brian(Kirksville, MO)
You had a great college career at Oregon, now what are your goals for your professional career.
Jonathan Stewart (3:50 PM)
To become one of the greatest RBs to ever play. That's what I want to accomplish. I am not going to put stats on it, because I don't think it comes down to statistics when you come down to the greatest players.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What are you going to miss most at Oregon?
Jonathan Stewart (3:50 PM)
I'm going to miss the most is my teammates and the fans. The fanbase that we had out in Oregon.
Smitty (Houston, Tx)
If you had to compare yourself to a runner in todays game who would it be and why?
Jonathan Stewart (3:51 PM)
I would say Jamaal Lewis. People tell me that I have some similarities to LT, the way he carries himself on the field. I would say Lewis, because we're close to the same size.
Woodinville, WA
Whats the part of your game you think you should work on most?
Jonathan Stewart (3:52 PM)
Consistent blocking. Becoming a consistent pass blocker.
Shane Simmons, Seattle, WA
Jonathan, how would you feel about playing for the Seattle Seahawks being a local guy?
Jonathan Stewart (3:52 PM)
That would be great. If that was possible for me to play there. I have a lot of family and friends there. My mom is there. There are a lot of things I can do in that community to help out the youth.
Shaun (Bellevue, WA)
Do you feel your the best RB in this draft, if so why?
Jonathan Stewart (3:53 PM)
Yeah. I feel that I have the capability to be the best in the draft. Just getting my opportunity to do that and show that.
Anthony (portland, or)
Would you rather play for a competeing team for nfl and have a limited role or team thats not and starting?
Jonathan Stewart (3:54 PM)
I want to be on a competiting team and compete for a starting role. I wouldn't want to go to a situation where it was easy. It hasn't been that way my whole life. It would make me a better athlete and competitor to compete for a spot.
Griggs (Seattle, WA)
There is a notion you are more of a gliding runner than a power back, what do you have to say in defense of yourself?
Jonathan Stewart (3:55 PM)
I'm not a glider. I think people get that mixed up because I'm a bigger back with the way I run. I run with patience and set things up. I think people will see at the next level that I'm not a glider, I'm an explosive runner.
Jonathan Stewart (3:55 PM)
They'll see my speed more often. I'm not a glider at all.
Jordan (Slinger, WI)
What's on your iPod right now?
Jonathan Stewart (3:56 PM)
A lot of music. A lot of variety of music. I have like 2,000 songs. The last thing I probably listened to was probably the old Usher CD. I listened to it on the airplane a couple of days ago.
Krishna (Newport Beach, CA)
Hey Jonathan, In the draft i know its frustrating to know where you are going, but do you have a specific team that you would like to play for? or rather a favorite team?
Jonathan Stewart (3:58 PM)
I've always wanted to play in the Northwest, in Seattle or somewhere because of my family. That would be the only team that if I had a choice that would be the one I would want to play for.
Santino (Portsmouth, VA)
Jonathan, if you had to pick one thing that gets you hype before the game what is it?
Jonathan Stewart (3:59 PM)
I'm motivated by the opportunity. I'm thankful by the opportunity to do things in football. I approach football humbly and being thankful for the opportunity. I just get in the zone and creating an atmosphere of peace within me so I can go out and give it my all. I listen to my iPod or whatever to create a cool little environment.
Danny (Santa rRosa, CA)
Which do you feel is the better stat rushing yards or all purpose yards?
Jonathan Stewart (4:01 PM)
I'm not really sure what's more important. Just doing everything you can, running the ball, catching the ball. So I guess I say all-purpose yards.
Gary G, Independence Ore.
Jonathan, props on a great career at Oregon. What is your honest opinion on how the U of O would have done without all the injuries last year?
Jonathan Stewart (4:02 PM)
Great question. We would have dominated the whole nation. We had a lot of talent on the team. It was unfortunate when our QB went down. He was an athletic QB that could make plays. When he went down, teams started to see us as one-dimensional.
Jonathan Stewart (4:03 PM)
Continue to support me and the Oregon football team. Keep us in your prayers. I'm thankful for the opportunity to have such a great fanbase.
