Amy Nelson (9:28 AM)
Hi everyone We're going to get started in about a half hour. Up first we'll be talking about Pedro and whether Mets fans are ready to call is a season? And also Donnie Walsh, what's Isiah's future?
Amy Nelson (9:29 AM)
Send in your thoughts or comments and we'll get it started in 30 minutes.
Amy Nelson (10:01 AM)
Ok guys we're ready to get it started.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
I've been saying for a LONG time that Pedro is as fragile as a leg lamp. He didn't let me down and it only took four innings to prove me right!
Amy Nelson (10:03 AM)
Jay Crawford with the tie, Jay Crawford without the tie? Sage wanted me to send that out, Jay lost his tie this morning and is going tieless...
Carl (Texas)
Here comes the overreaction 2 games into the season by the New York fans.
Tim (Bowling Green, OH)
No tie. He looks fly!
Boof (MN)
What the heck is a leg lamp?
Amy Nelson (10:04 AM)
I'm guessing that's one of those lamps shaped in the form of a leg i guess?
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Pedro is done. Dude can't throw 50 pitches without pulling something. In his defense, it is difficult to pitch with a huge pitchfork stuck in your back.
Chris (Princeton, NJ)
Good morning Amy, let's talk about the real New York team, how about Melky Cabrera last night?
Carl (Texas)
Without the tie Jay. Ties are so overrated.
Jeff (Ohio)
1. How could Jay lose his tie? 2. Why doesn't he have like 10 backup ties? Isn't there wardrobe people at ESPN?
Amy Nelson (10:05 AM)
Jeff, No wardrobe people sorry. Don't know how he lost it...some how en route.
Jason (Rochester,NY)
say bye bye to the mets no more pitchers to fill the holes.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Leg lamp as in A Christmas Story. The major award. Obscure reference unless you know the movie.
Mike(shreveport,Lousiana)
I don't think losing Pedro is gonna hurt cause with or without him they were gonna finish in third behind the Phillies and the Braves...The Mets should cut ties with him and look to replace him..he's done....and Jay should definitely go without the tie...
Batch (Boston)
It's easy to hate on Pedro right now, but when I think of him I remember Pedro 98-01, to me the most dominant run of any pitcher in the steroids era
Mike (New York)
The Mets should be worried Johan can only pitch every 4 days Philly fans are smiling
jordan (pikeville, ky)
i say jay is pimpin tie or no tie tell em jay!!!
Scott (Lawrence)
I think that Jay, and Sage should wear a Kansas Final Four T-Shirts for Thursdays show. GO HAWKS!
Josh (Florida)
Pedro's done. Mets are still going to win without him though. They did last year, for the most part.
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Hey, the Braves lost the first two games and The AJC is ready to fold up shop already. This microwave sports mentality has got to stop.
Bryan (Weston, FL)
Pedro getting hurt and people talking about it isnt an overreaction. dont get me wrong im a huge yankees fan, but he is their number 2 starter if he is hurt they have no chance of beating the phillies in the nl east
Xander (Austin, TX)
As Jay Crawford's biggest fan, I believe Jay got the no-tie look from his sidekick Skip Bayless.
rj (hartford)
No Pedro this year is still better than no pedro last year... Hello, why do you think we got Santana... no longer Mayne in the pressurized #1 spot.
Rev (GR )
I rather here about Jay's tie. Then baseball the I sport since 1998. Who hit more homeruns is more important then teams winning.
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
As a Mets fan, I'm not too concerned w/ Dro going down. I don't think the Mets were expecting a spectacular season. We'll basically have the same rotation as last year, except we have Santana as our #1 instead of Glavine. I'll take that switch any day of the week. The Mets will be fine!
Rob (New York)
No tie!
Grant (Reedsburg)
Pedro is old cut him some slack...Clemens can't throw 50 pitches without getting accused of something or getting hurt, so lets lay of the old pitchers a bit
Mike(Shreveport, Louisiana)
I don't think losing Pedro is gonna hurt cause with or without him they were gonna finish in third behind the Phillies and the Braves...The Mets should cut ties with him and look to replace him..he's done....and Jay should definitely go without the tie...
Colin (Madison, WI)
Amy, let's talk just for a minute about the NIT
Amy Nelson (10:11 AM)
Colin, Are you serious?
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
The Mets weren't going to win a thing anyway. Moises is 40 something and brittle, so is Pedro. Johan is all they have and he can't do it all by himself. Randolph may not last the season if they fall too far behind.
Joe (Marquette, Mi)
Ouch, Jay does resemble skip without the tie! PLEASE GO BACK TO THE TIE!
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Every team...EVERY team will suffer the loss of a starting pitcher at some point this season. With Pedro, it was almost expected.
rj (hartford)
Pedro missed a lot of time last year too, and they finished on top. Now with Santana, people are bagging the season? I don't get you people. I just don't get you.
Ryan (Greensboro, NC)
For some reason when someone mentions phillies as a contending team I tend to twitch. Something about it just sounds wrong...
Chris (East Lansing)
No need to be worried about the Mets and Pedro. He isn't 'the guy' for the Mets, Santana is. It's a long season, better to get his oncoming injury out of the way in April rather that September. The offense will get them through.
Bryan (Weston, FL)
RJ if you were actually a mets fan you'd know how to spell your former #1 starters last name (Maine)
Jim (NY)
Jay's clothing just seems to get lost very easy...must be a conspiracy!
Clayton (Oklahoma)
Jay, I'd keep the tie. Dont take any style ques from Skip Bayless!
Mike (Brooklyn)
Relax Mets haters, the sky isn't falling. The Mets were in first place for 160 out of 162 games last year, without Pedro. They couldn't replicate a collapse like last year's if they tried. So the Mets will be fine, and so will Pedro after a quick DL stint.
Dana, Jamestown, NY
The Mets were ridiculous to even believe Pedro would be able to withstand the season and be effective. He was only considered the teams number two starter because of his name, and they didn't want to bruise his huge ego (which was already damaged by Johan Santana coming in).
Xander (Austin, TX)
As Jay Crawford's biggest fan, I'd have to say Jay with no tie + Skip Bayless = Must See TV
Jeff (Ohio)
My definition of "on top" must be different than people from NYC, because the Mets definetely choked last year and didn't even finish "on top" of their division or the wild card race.
rj (hartford)
Anyone ever heard of Jose Reyes, David Wright and Carlos Beltran? Mets will compete.
Mike (New York)
Got to rock the tie it puts it all together
Colin (Madison, WI)
Jay with tie for sure i've gotten too used to him with the tie that now he just looks unprofessional
Jesse (Columbus Ohio)
Yeah Amy why not talk about the NIT. The mighty Gators are out and I think it is Hilarious.
Chris (Plainsboro, NJ)
To everyone who is saying that the Mets are fine because they basically have the same rotation as last year with Santana instead of Glavine are completely ludicrous! This team did not make the playoffs and had a monumental collapse. With the Phils and the Braves very good, the Mets should be concerned.
John (Birmingham, AL)
Jay needs the tie. It makes him look sharp, professional, and it brings the class to first take.
Justin, FL
Shocked to see so many people say that losing a number 2 pitcher is "no big deal" especially one that is part of a staff that is so-so at best outside of Santana.
Chris (East Lansing)
If you are going to be worried about a team after 1-2 games, make it the Tigers. Verlander pitched a great 6+ and then middle relief let THE ROYALS jump all over them and blew opening day. The power-O got us 2 HR's and enough runs to beat that team, the pitching looked bad...
rj (hartford)
It's the middle relief that stinks... Pedro being there or not doesn't change that. The starting rotation is better this year.
Batch (Boston)
RJ, they had Reyes, Wright and Beltran last year and it wasn't enough. The difference is JOHAN
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
The Mets are loaded with old players and injuries waiting to happen. They'll hang in there but trust me, by August the Flushing faithful will be calling for Willie to be fired.
Jeff (Ohio)
Verlander pitched great except for that meatball he served up to Alex Gordon. I still don't think that thing has landed yet.
Khari (Taylor TX)
Everytime I see Pedro pitch (or sit mostly), Theo and the Boston front office look smarter and smarter...
Josh (Texas)
What is Walsh gonna do? Nothing. Look at the team he left. The Knicks are going to bad bad for at least the next 5 years.
Jason (Rochester,NY)
unless walsh is suiting up and going out and playing hard then things will not get fixed until they purgevthat roster.
Clayton (Oklahoma)
The only job Walsh should offer Thomas a shot at running point
Ryan (Greensboro, NC)
I used to idiolize Pedro, but I think it's about time for him to head on down to the Bahamas, grab a drink, sit back and retire.
John from Kenosha WI
I dont think Mets fans should call it a season when you have the lineup they have.We should have all suspected Pedro to get hurt somewhere in this season. The real question is how long is he hurt and can another player step up and fill his sheos while he is out.
Adam: Long Island, NY
As a Met fan, i am concerned about Pedro, but our starting rotation and bullpen seem strong enough to afford a Mike Pelfrey outing every 5 days, no matter how terrible. Our offense should be able to produce enough runs to hopefully even out that start made by the 5th starter
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Pedro is done! He can't throw 50 pitches without pulling something. In his defense, I guess it is difficult to pitch with a huge pitchfork sticking out of your back.
Grant (Reedsburg, WI)
I still give Verlander props for the no hitter he threw against my Brewers last season...tough to no hit a team like that
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Zeke must go! He's single handedly destroyed a once proud organization. Not only on the court, but off the court as well. The highest payroll in the NBA doesn't even include his sexual harassment settlement. How did he keep his job this year?
Shawn, Charleston SC
Lets forget about the Mets, the Yankees looked solid. A-ROD rips a double, Joba sits em' down in the eight and the Sandman closes the door. We'll see ya in October
Charlie (Maine)
Skip Bayless never amazes me with these ridiculous claims. Maine the ace for NY? What does he have to support this? All that money to Johan and the proven ace will shine. Skip is insane!
kyle (albany,ny)
It's great to see the knicks pass on jerry west w/out even giving him an interview, after he stated he was interested in the job, and all for the likes of donnie walsh; a man whose won what in the past two decades? It's sad to say, but the knicks will remain in the terrible situation their in, until the real problem is addressed and removed. JAMES DOLAN MUST GO!
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
The only way out for donnie Walshis to go into salary dump mode. I don't think that's possible right now. But on the bright side, Billy King might be employed again.
Chris (Plainsboro, NJ)
Everyone seems to forget that Johan plays once every five days. The Mets outfield is below par, and really old at the corners, they might be better off playing Santana in left when he's not pitching. They were shaky in the 5 spot of the rotation, and now with Pedro out, spots 4 and 5 are questionable. Everyone talks about avoiding another collapse, but really, will they be in the position to have one?
Amy Nelson (10:23 AM)
That's the reason I didn't pick them for the division. I figured Pedro wasn't going to be healthy the entire year (though didn't think this early) and thought some of those old guys in the lineup could go down.
TJ (NYC)
The NBA and the Knicks must be the only corporations in this country who would actually consider retaining an employee who was proven guilty of sexual harassment. Any other person in any other company would have been fired immeadiately.
Chris J (New York, NY)
Isiah should be sent so far away from MSG a GPS system couldn't help him find his way back
Colin (Madison, WI)
The Yankees look great. Whenever you're batting Hideki Matsui last. You must be pretty good.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
The Knicks made a good move in taking one job away from a man who couldn't do it. The problem I have is that Isiah's front office replacement is no Spring chicken. The team needs some fresh blood upstairs and someone who knows how to coach on the floor. Isiah Thomas shouldn't collect another paycheck from the New York Knicks.
Justin, FL
Even though Pedro's injury last night was the "pop heard 'round the world" the Mets do have one thing going for them: They play in the same division with the Marlins.
Amy Nelson (10:24 AM)
Justin, Bitter Marlins fan?
DyeMund Shel (New York)
Walsh should fire Isiah and hire MARK JACKSON I've been saying it for two years now. He is a New York City basketball product who has played in the garded for over 2 decades (St. John's & the Knikcs). As a point guard he will have a good rapport with Stephon Marbury, as well as the rest of the team. In 3 years he can turn that team around.
Patrick (Chicago)
Didn't the Yankees fire their athletic trainer last year with all the injuries that happened? Why isn't Pedro stretching in between innings or getting some treatment? Steve Nash lays down on the bench when he leaves the game and works his back- baseball players with a history of injuries should think about doing the same...
Amy Nelson (10:26 AM)
Patrick, The Mets have one of the best training staffs in the bigs, same goes for their strength coaches. I see what you're saying but it seems as though Pedro was maybe not 100 percent with his velocity down.
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Alright people...name me the #5 starters on 4 teams that you don't route for regularly. This isn't an open book quiz! To Chris' point, the #5 only pitches every 5 days as well. El Duque and Pelfrey aren't exactly bad 4 and 5 guys.
Grant (Reedsburg, WI)
Reyes ad Beltran are the Mets team, sure Delgado shows up here and there, but not very often
Justin, FL
Hey Shawn, when's the last time your Yankees actually WON in October? "What have you done for me lately" is what you've got to adopt as a philosophy, kid...
Josh (Texas)
Enough about New York. How about the Mavs on the verge of getting eliminated. I laughed at the Mavs fans for making that worthless trade and now are suffering for it. Have they even beaten a playoff team yet after the trade?
Adam(Syracuse,NY)
Really old at the corners? When did David Wright get old?
Amy Nelson (10:27 AM)
Did i say at the corners? Or did someone else? I've got a headcold today guys so cut me a little slack ...the lineup is aged in certain parts.
Colin (Madison, WI)
Hey let's not count out the Nationals yet. They did just beat the Braves. A team that a lot of people are picking to win the division
Tyler (Tandberg)
The Yankees should look great. They have 3 players that are making as much or more than the Marlins. They also have 4 out of 5 infielders as highest paid at their position.
Brian (San antonio Texas)
Anyone with any thoughts on Fukudome's opening day in the Bigs on Monday?
Amy Nelson (10:28 AM)
I was in Chicago and was a really cool moment. There was a live Japanese broadcast in the press box and when Fukudome hit the homer, he just started screaming Home Run! Home Run! at the top of his lungs.
Chris (Boiling Springs, SC)
Great debut for Fukudome, bad game for the rest of the team.
Justin, FL
AMY: No not at all. Red Sox Fan. I love going to Marlins games. No crowds, no lines, two for one tickets... Best deal in baseball! Minus the dancing fat men, anyway.
Christian (Charlotte, NC)
They didn't have Pedro for much of last year. And barring the collapse, The Mets faired pretty well.
PG (Dallas, TX)
With or without Walsh, if the Knicks get rid of Thomas, and are willing to part with some of their players who are a bit of a drag and they will be back in the playoffs within 5 years.
Julie (Jersey)
I tried to tell all the Mets fans I work with that this Pedro thing was coming ... they just refuse to believe that he's done, and I have no idea why ....
Lone Marlins fan (Miami)
I told you all that we would shock the world somehow. I told yall so!!!!!
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Speaking of the NBA, how is Kobe still the front-runner for the MVP. His team keeps losing with Gasol down, including losses to Memphis and Charlotte. They weren't that great before the Gasol trade as well. This isn't the Oscars, we don't give awards for previous snubs. Long live Chris Paul!!!!
Khari (Taylor TX)
Why would we count out anyone yet? We are at most 3 games into the season...nobody looks great or terrible, yet.
Charlie (Maine)
Fukudome was good to see. We all know Chicago media types like Jay Mariatti. At least he bought himself a little adjustment time by having a great first game.
Rob (Lewistown, PA)
It's early...a little too early to think the Nats have a chance.
Ramses (Miami FL)
I just hate the fact that everyone has jumped on the Mets bandwagon with Santana. If you watched the game last night it was pathetic you can clearly hear "Lets go Mets!" chants in the 10 inning.
Dana (Chicago, IL)
Am I the only one who has a problem with 3 Yankees players that make as much or more as the entire Florida Marlins roster?
Dana, Jamestown, NY
Fukudome is going to be a good player, but he shouldn't be considered a rookie in the league after nine seasons in Japan.
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
Delgado, Alou, are the two corner outfielders who are long in the tooth.
Chad Cook (Winchester,NH)
Why doesn't the MLB have a rule in place to use instant replay on possible HR and close plays at the plate? Last night in the Red Sox game V-Tek hit what looked to be a HR and it was called a double. So why wait until one of these calls cost a team a game and use the power of instant replay to help. In football it helps out alot why not use it in baseball !!!
Amy Nelson (10:31 AM)
Chad was thinking the same thing when i saw that last night. There's a perfect example of when it could be used effectively.
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Colin, great point. I live in the DC area and the Nats look like a great TEAM without any huge stars. They seem to really enjoy playing the game and could finish at or just above .500 this year if their young guys reach their potential.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Christian: That's priceless. "Barring the collapse..." You can't bar it. They had one of the highest payrolls in the game and blew a seven game lead with 17 to play. It was a miserable season in Flushing last year.
Dwalu (Virginia)
The problem with the Knicks is not Isiah. They just suffer from the Starbury jinx. He's a nice guy and all, but everytime he's on a team, they lose. When ever he leaves the team, that team is always playoff bound.
Chris (East Lansing)
Let's not count out the Nationals, the Braves, the Mets, or even the Giants yet. We're two days in!
Amy Nelson (10:32 AM)
The Giants, you're joking, right?
Dale (Kannapolis NC)
As far as the Wood v. Gagne topic, who will be the closer for the longest? You've got to give it to Wood, Gagne has a history of falling apart on the big stage. Wood has a strong fastball and does not have a history of collapsing, just of injury!
Amy Nelson (10:33 AM)
Wood for sure. Bobby Howry, who lost the closer job to Wood, said he wasn't surprised when he got the gig because Wood was healthy and throwing well. Howry knows the Cubs need Wood. Wood should be fine. gagne on the other hand, not so good. Not answeing to the media is not a good first impression to make with your teammates.
Rob (Lewistown, PA)
I say no tie for Jay. Make a statement, join the Skip Bayless extravaganza!!!
Brian (San Antonio Texas)
Sadly as a Cub fan I must expext a Kerry Wood collapse I am used to early mid season dibacles.
Adam(Syracuse,NY)
Speaking of Gagne, someone introduce him to a tailor...those pants looked like it could fit 2 Prince Fielders in them. It's no wonder he can't pitch, he's tripping over his pants
Khari (Taylor TX)
Eric Gagne (or GAG-N.ew E.ngland as he was dubbed last season) has been done for quite some time. the fact that Boston could unload him to the Brewers shows why AL games should be broadcast in NL cities...
Joe (Marquette, Mi)
Gange may fall apart mentally, but Wood is a MASH UNIT
Dale (Kannapolis NC)
RED TIE
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
No tie
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
It looks like a $10 million investment might cost Ned Yost his job.
scott (chicago)
Are you kidding me I know its early but both Wood and Gagne looked awful!
Carl (Texas)
Wood will be on the DL by June guaranteed.
Sir Varge, New York City
Hey Amy how about some love for the Padres, who have allowed just one run in two games? No more East Coast bias.
Amy Nelson (10:37 AM)
Yeah well too bad everyone is asleep still on the west coast ...
Chris (Plainsboro, NJ)
adam from syracuse: if you read the post correctly it was discussing the outfield, so the corners was directed at the corner outfield spots
Colin (Madison, WI)
Dale, I disagree highly Gagne will be there much longer the cubs won't have that much patience. The Brewers lived through Derrick Turnbow blowing saves all the time. Gagne for sure.
Matt (Dallas, TX)
How many pairs of Suits, Shirts and ties does Jay bring every day?
Amy Nelson (10:38 AM)
Just one, I believe.
Jesse (Columbus Ohio)
Oh and why aren't we talking about the gutsyist (don't know how to spell it) performance since Jordan's food poisoning. I'm talking about Miss Parker doing what she do even after dislocating her shoulder twice in the same game.
Tim (Boston)
Amy do yo have lockers or space to keep a few suits.
Amy Nelson (10:39 AM)
I don't becuae i don't live here but most of the on-air talent have their own offices/lockers/cubbies etc. But it's in another buildign that's about a 10-minute walk away from our studio. Jay realized he didn't have his tie about 2 minutes before we went on.
Chris (Chicago, IL)
About yesterdays Gagne v. Wood issue...Skip mentioned Wood's injury history as a reason for his downfall. HELLO?! Are we talking about the same Eric Gagne that has been plagued by injuries and steroid rumors the past 2 or 3 seasons???? Of course, there's also the fact that Wood looked incredible through ST while Gagne looked terrible.
scott (chicago)
Everyone is on the Cubs bandwagon this year but theres anouther team in Chicago and there going to turn some heads this year in a stacked conferance I would say Thome had the biggest opening day bat!
Daniel (Stockton, CA)
I never thought I'd read the words "join the Skip Bayless extravaganza." Does this mean Jay will start disagreeing with anything Dana says and then just kind of laugh uncomfortably when somebody proves him wrong?
bradley (atl, ga)
i went to opening night for the Braves and I seriously do not understand how people get so hyped up for a game that has 161 more behind it. Potentially the greatest Final Four ever is taking place in 3 days and everyone on here is geeked out about baseball. Amy, I'm disappointed at your moderating skills
Amy Nelson (10:40 AM)
Bradley, You are the worst and your attitude stinks. And I can say that since we went to high school together. You know I cover baseball, start supporting your Bravos!
Dana, Jamestown, NY
Gagne's health won't be the question. The problem is he can't get anyone out with his pitches.
Christian (Charlotte, NC)
Speaking of east coast bias, the Dodgers look pretty good so far. Joe Torre is a great manager. Although it saddens me that he and the Yanks broke up, I'm glad to see that he's doing well.
Amy Nelson (10:42 AM)
Christian, Hardest call was picking an NL West division winner. I chose the DBacks, but the Padres, Rockies and Dodgers will all be canidates. The outfield situation in LA is a tough one...
bradley (atl, ga)
I take back the moderating skills comment
Amy Nelson (10:42 AM)
That's more like it...
Bob (Chicago, IL)
Both teams will have traded for a real closer by the all-star break. No way will Lou be able to sit back with that going on everyday
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Bradley, if this was Friday I'm sure there would be much more college hoop discussions.
Jason (Lancaster, NY)
I have watched First Take/Cold Pizza from day 1. Although it would be weird to see Jay without a tie, I say it should go.
Justin, FL
JESSE: TRUE DAT.
Anthony ,Newark,De
haha..poor melts fans. this is just another sign on how SOFT the mets really are..goodluck in 3rd this year
Khari (Taylor TX)
Parker's play was gutsy, but she was not exactly an impact player in the second half with 8 pts, most from the free throw line since the whistle went off when players got near her. the fact that the Lady Vols could only score 28 points as a team without her, is much more noteworthy...
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Did you just say east coast bias, and justify it with the Dodgers? All I ever hear besides Yankees/Red Sox is Cubs/Dodgers. ESPN has named 4 buildings on the lot after Joe Torre. I've never seen a contract negotiation covered more religiously!
David (chicago,ill)
Me being a Yankees fan from Chicago, ill admit it was tough to see Torre go, but honestly, it was time for a change. If they can get there starting pitching together, they could do some damage.
Chad Cook (Winchester,NH)
Gagne is washed up, he sucked in Boston last year and he will probally lose his job for the Brewers.
PG (Dallas, TX)
The Dodgers are a team to watch out for in the open NL West.
PG (Dallas, TX)
I don't feel bad for the Mets. They've picked up a bunch of overrated players like Beltran and Pedro.
Derek (NY)
Im not sure why people are making such a big deal about Pedro going down. A) Nobody expected him to start the full season. Anything more then 15 starts out of the guy is icing on the cake. He was only the "2nd Starter" out of respect, John Maine and Oliver Perez are both better pitchers at this point, they did win a combined 30 games last year. They'll be just fine.
Rob (Lewistown, PA)
PG, if it's an open NL West...aren't all the teams, ones to watch out for?
Christian (Charlotte, NC)
Gagne was so dominate for a good three years. When, you saw him you knew it was game over. But now he's a shell of himself
Mike (Brooklyn)
If Joe Torre plays Matt Kemp 150 games this year, they will win the NL West. Their only real weakness is their lack of power, and Kemp definitely compensates for that weakness.
Nick (Texas)
Would someone tell Jay to be a man and just not wear a tie. Dont give into pressure from skip and that other guy
Khari (Taylor TX)
In the NL West where the team that underachieves the least usually wins, experience will be a factor. That said I think Torre's experience in LA and the Rockies experience in last year's postseason will ensure the NL West winner is one of those two teams.
Neil (Reno Nevada)
I'm awake, Amy!
Amy Nelson (10:48 AM)
Nice Neil
Khari (Taylor TX)
"When, you saw him (Gagne) you knew it was game over" This is still true! Just not for the opposing team...
Julie (Jersey)
I don't think the NL West or any other division matters, they are all inferior to the AL !
PG (Dallas, TX)
How can someone be a Yanks fan in a great baseball town like Chicago even if the Cubs haven't won in 100 years.
john (texas)
1 Goodell needs to be out of front office. 2. Bill Bilichick should be be suspended or banned from the league. 3. Goodell needs to be out of front office!! 4. Boycott the NFL, if I wanted to see staged events I'd go to a wrestling match
Joe (Marquette, Mi)
Amy in your opinion how far will the Tigers go this year?
Amy Nelson (10:50 AM)
Joe, Picked them for the wild card, and I did so largly on Leyeland, lineup and the rotation. Bullpen is a problem, be interesting to see if rotation will shape up and perform the way its capable of.
Mark (nj)
Uh..anyone remember that Gagne was named in the Mitchell Report. He was never good, it was the steriods duh.
Christopher (San Antonio)
Tigers would be great, if they played by little league rules and only went 7 innings!
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
I think John sterling, the radio play by play voice of the Yankees is reason enough to be a Yankees fan. "It is high, it is far, it issssss gone!!"
Colin (Madison, WI)
In my Brewers picks I wasn't expecting more than 25 saves all year for Gagne. Besides, the Brewers still have guys like Solomon Torres and Guillermo Mota.
Evan Graham (Roanoke VA)
I am a Orioles fan and how long do you think it will take them to win the world series.
Amy Nelson (10:51 AM)
eternity?
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
If you seriously want to talk East Coast Bias....what about that team out there in Seattle? Bedard, Rodriguez this year's Schilling/Johnson?
Chris (East Lansing)
John, wow. And by that I mean, wow.
Kevin Bronson (Charlotte NC)
Amy whos your pick for the national championship?
Amy Nelson (10:52 AM)
ucla
PG (Dallas, TX)
Well even if it is an open race, the Dodgers have the inside track as people have been talking about other teams, they've made some good moves and have a quality opportunity.
scott (chi)
John gimme a break your dilerous the NFl is primetime the leauge that eveyone wants to be you go see wrasling Ill go watch my bears!!
Jesse (Columbus Ohio)
wow John that's a bit much first of all Goodell isn't doing that bad a job even though I don't like him and Belichick wasn't doing anything most other teams weren't doing he just got caught by a bitter former co-worker. How do you think Manginni knew where to find the guy, he worked with him. The NFL isn't staged although there is nothing wrong with wrestling.
Justin, FL
JOHN: Bitter Oilers fan? Cant believe someone from Texas just said a bad word about anything football!
Josh (Texas)
One defensive player with a helmet is dumb. Defensive players do NOT play every down on defense. There are like a million packages that teams do with different players. The headset will do no good especially if the offense goes no huddle.
joe (San Jose, CA)
Tigers all depends on there bullpen, they didnt look to impressive in there opener, but really who does its game 1 of 182
Amy Nelson (10:53 AM)
its 162
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Sorry Damon, I lost all respect for Sterling with quotes like.."An A-Bomb from A-Rod"...and "The Great Giambino". Please the guy stinks, or, maybe it's just because I'm a Mets fan.
Colin (Madison, WI)
The Brewers don't have that much to worry about with Gagne, when they are in the weakest division in baseball
Nick (Mount Juliet,TN)
I think that the Cubs gonna win it all
Ryan (Anthony Wayne High School)
I think the Tigers are overrated this year and won't be good when Willis and renteria don't live up to the hype.
Adam(Syracuse,NY)
Gibbons was also in the Mitchell report...when was he EVER good? It wasn't all steroids for Gagne. He's still throwing his changeup to set up his fastball, and it should be the other way around.
Keith (Kent, WA)
Amy, the last round of 1st & 10 made the statement that NFL Football today is not as good as in the past before technology, wireless communications, ect were involved. Are they kidding? The NFL has been more competitive than ever. Teams, atheletes, on game competitive changes are all so improved that you have to keep up or get run over. the wireles comms for the defense is just the next innovation. Get over it.
anuja729 (seattle)
yea! go m's! bedard wasn't 1/2 bad opening day.
Chris (East Lansing)
Tigers need to find some middle relief or pray that Zumaya and Rodney come back better than ever. If that happens, they will manage at least the wild card, if not the division. The offense looked pretty good in their first outing, especially Cabrera. Keep in mind Placido had a terrible game in his important spot and they still scored.
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
When Peter Angelos sells the team, they can win.
John (Orlando, FL)
I just don't see how anyone can rule out Cleveland. If Hafner stays healthy and gets his swing back - they are going to be dangerous.
Kevin Bronson (Charlotte NC)
Phillies are going to win it all!
Joe (Marquette, Mi)
Cubs? Keep dreaming!
Tim (Merritt Island,Florida)
Amy,what about the Braves?
Amy Nelson (10:55 AM)
I picked them to win the division.
DJ (MN)
Indians Redsox and Angles win the division with the Yanks and Tigers for the WC.
Johnny (Scranton, PA)
Amy: Isn't it a 145 game season in Flushing?
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
I'm a Mets fafn myself, but he's funny to listen to. "A RBI for robbie!!"
Amy Nelson (10:56 AM)
Whaddya know it's Robbie Cano
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Speaking of the Orioles...How did a once proud and dominating franchise become such an afterthought? This wouldn't have happened if Stringer Bell was running them.
Joe (Marquette, Mi)
I think Cleveland will be tough, but the Tigers will just put up too many runs this year.
Amy Nelson (10:57 AM)
Anyoen have any thoughts on the new Indiana hire?
John (Orlando, FL)
The Tigers remind me of the Lakers a few years back when they got Malone and Peyton. Everyone kept talking about how they had a starting lineup for the ages - and we see where it got them. That's the Tigers this year.
DJ (MN)
Braves, Brewers, and Dimondbacks win their Division with the Mets and Cubs fighing for the WC
Joe (San Jose,CA)
Money Ball is at it again, the Oakland A's are really impressing me. with a bunch of nobodys in the lineup and to compete with the defending world champs. Billy Beane once again gets the old out brings in new hungry baseball players, not young stars not over hyped talent, just good young BASEBALL Players. Kids who know how to play the game.
Jason (Lancaster, NY)
I don't think anyone is ruling out Cleveland, I just think with the additions to Detroit and the two power houses in the east it's easy to guess against them.
Brian (San Antonio Texas)
This is 100yr annv. since the Cubs last won a title. I say the planets are aligned and they take the title with Fukudome hitting a walk off homer in game seven.
Christopher (San Antonio)
145? Johnny, that is awesome! Great line
Mike (Shreveport, Louisiana)
Who's your NBA MVP Amy?
Amy Nelson (10:59 AM)
paul, hand down
Brendan (Boston)
Brewers are overrated, Fukudome wins MVP and ROY. Cubs win NL.
Jeff (Ohio)
I think it's funny that Dakich dismissed 2 starters and then lost his job the very next day. Couldn't Indiana have made the hire one day earlier?
Kevin Bronson (Charlotte NC)
I think the Indiana hire was a great move! Tom is going to do great things there just like he did at Marqutte
Justin (Evansville)
I wonder if the hiring of Crean will convince Gordon to stay another year..personally, I don't think he's NBA ready.
Colin (Madison, WI)
Brendan, Have you heard of a boy named Ryan Braun. The Brewers led the NL in HRs last year, and their bullpen looks pretty good
Peter (Chicago)
Bullpen looks good? Yeah right. Gagne blows and who wants to depend on mota and riske
Khari (Taylor TX)
Crean is a very good coach. but even a GREAT coach, needs players to coach and he does not have them right now (starting 5 may be totally gone). He better hope things cool down with the NCAA or he may not have them for quite some time.
PG (Dallas, TX)
Oh the Indiana move was more than they could ask for. Tom is a good coach and for as many issues as they've had, they are lucky to get a guy like him. They will be fine now with a good pick up at coach like they did.
Jesse (Columbus Ohio)
Chris Paul is a good pick Amy but I still say its all about Kobe. The only way I give it to Chris is if they win the division. He's a great player but Kobe deserves it now and actually has deserved it in the past. Finally some love for Kobe. (again coming from a suns fan who hates the lakers.)
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
I keep hearing this Fukudome for MVP...isn't there a guy named Pujols playing in the NL? Not to mention, Wright, Fielder, Howard, etc.
Christopher (San Antonio)
What if the incoming Indiana coach knew about the two guys being dismissed and used the cover of the old coach leaving as to not come in under a cloud of controversy?
Anthony ,Newark,De
haha. fukudome wins the mvp and roy and the cubs win the nl?..lol poor cubs fan 1 game and he is the second coming of what?.. ernie banks?..get real
Brendan (Boston)
Who cares about Indiana basketball? They haven't been relevant since Knight left.
Colin (Madison, WI)
Peter how about your bullpen in Chicago you looked great with Kerry Wood already falling apart mentally
Kev (NYC)
It doesn't matter who wins what in the NL, because whoever wins the AL will win the WS
Colin (Madison, WI)
Ryan Braun may easily get a triple crown.
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Gordon is nowhere near NBA ready but he will take the money and run. He reminds me of Joe Forte. Who? Joe Forte!...exactly. That's who Gordon will become in a few years, Joe Forte!
Amy Nelson (11:09 AM)
I remember Red Auerbach loved Joe Forte, loved him,
Jason (Lancaster, NY)
Another Vote for Kobe over Paul. Paul is having a monster year, but still in the shadow of Kobe.
Anthony ,Newark,De
colin u actually think braun will hit 35 homers this year?. better chance of ben sheets going down on the dl then for braun to duplicate last year
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Jesse, if it's Kobe...how come they keep losing to sub .500 teams while Gasol is hurt?
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Crean is a good coach but can he recruit?
Rob (Lewistown, PA)
You can't judge a coach on his first season, especially a basketball coach. You have to wait until he gets some of HIS guys on campus, through recruiting.
Carl (Texas)
I bet Gordon goes pro. We still don't know how hard the NCAA is going to hit IU.
Jeff (Ohio)
Crean recruited Dwyane Wade so, yes he can recruit.
Christian (Charlotte, NC)
I don't think Gordon is ready for the NBA. I'd love for Hansbrough to stay and extend his range to the 3 pt. line.
Chris (East Lansing)
Crean can recruit. He's the type of a guy a University wants talking to moms and dads in the region. He's also the guy you want talking to a McDonald's All American.
Josh (Texas)
Chris Paul should be MVP. The Hornets are actually contending. The Hornets. That alone should give it to him. It would be a crime if he didn't get it.
Brian (San Antonio Texas)
So many Cub haters :-( have a heart guys, Harry was always nice to other fans.
Rich (South Orange, NJ)
Crean was named in ESPN magazine as one of the best recruiters, I remember reading that a few months ago, it included phil martelli as well
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
Forte is the poster child for one-dimensional kids who come out too early and can't cut it at the NBA level when they realize that their skills have not been properly developed. However, Gordon will be the D-League ROY.
Peter (Chicago)
Wood didn't get knocked like gagne. Besides I'd be just as happy with Marmol being the closer. He has filthy stuff. I'd take Marmol over gagne riske and mota any day
Jason (Lancaster, NY)
Like was said already about IU punishment has not been handed down yet, so the better question is, will he be allowed to recruit with scholarships?
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
I think what coach McKillop isn't saying is how the run his team made is going to help his recruiting efforts in the future.
Brendan (Boston)
It doesn't matter anyway, whoever wins the NL is just getting get romped by the AL team, whoever that is. (Hopefully Red Sox).
Anthony ,Newark,De
hornets will not only win the division but will lokc up the #1 seed in the west..CHRIS PAUL. like i said 4 months ago to some ppl..AMY.. lol will win the NBA MVP
Trossy, (Sulphur, LA)
No tie. Look what it did to Skip. It limited the blood/oxygen supply to his brain. Maybe, just maybe, if Skip continues to abandon the tie, he can recover. Jay, you da man. Skip, you da 50/50 man. Half the time you're "spot on", and the other half, well, you know.....
Chris (Plainsboro, NJ)
Dwayne Wade does not prove he can recruit, Wade was way under the radar...However, he stole Dominic James from Indiana, as James is from Indianapolis...Crean takes a team from middle of nowhere Wisconsin to a national ranking in the best conference in the nation every year, so yes he can recruit.
Chris (East Lansing)
About 5% of college players care about if they are ready for the NBA, Curry is a fine example. He wants to get bigger and refine parts of his game. The other 95% care about if they will win the lottery. It's too much money to pass up if you are projected in the top 10. It's a shame, but its the way it is.
Chris (Plainsboro, NJ)
Chris Paul for MVP...Let's not forget it is most valuable player, not most outstanding, however Paul should win regardless...Without CP3 the Hornets are a 20 win team, while the Lakers still win 40 without Kobe...It is not a career achievement award, it is the 2008 MVP, and it should go to Chris Paul.
Jason (Lancaster, NY)
Curry does not need the money like most kids that jump prematurly to the NBA, it's not all about maturity, but need.
Rob (Lewistown, PA)
Chris...that's the sign of a good recruiter...finding the diamond in the rough and not just the 5 stars.
Noel (Peru, IN)
IU's 11:00 press conference is right on schedule, just like all of the other press conferences they have had. It should start in about 8-10 hours from now.
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
chris, the whole idea in going to college is to better your station in life..(i.e. financial station). Gordon will be doing that if he goes for the money. It's why all of us go to college.
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
I agree with you Chris. If I had a shot at that kind of money I'd take it too. But if I wanted a career I'd stay in college and try to refine my skills. Curry comes from money and that is the only reason he's staying.
Brian (San Antonio Texas)
I think the biggest shame is the education they give up. They all have the chance to recieve a top quality education something not everyone is blessed to have. They never know if they are going to have a career ending injury they should keep thier edcation as a plan B.
Jeff (Ohio)
Nobody has mentioned LeBron. Cavs went 0-7 without him this year and if he weren't on the team say hello to a 15 win season and a possible #1 pick. Oh yeah, he's throwing up a 31-8-7 every game and guarding the other teams best player in crunch time.
Justin (San Antonio, TX)
Paul must get MVP. He is the sole reason my Spurs are fighting for No.1. In one year the Hornets went from no playoffs at all, to No.1 contenders in the tightest Western Conference ever - and they did it without a MAJOR acquisition. That is all Chirs Paul. Tyson Chandler is NOT Pau Gasol. By the way, I do think Kobe is the best player in the NBA, and I'm a Spurs fan, but the Lakers with Gasol would still be playoff contenders this year.
Chris (Plainsboro, NJ)
You are correct Rob, i was more talking about the competition of recruiting, and in today's world you need top recruits, as diamonds in the rough do not carry you far.
Joe (Marquette, Mi)
Curry has something that most college basketball players don't; he is a great spot up shooter with a quick trigger, he can drive, and he has got great genetics...haha
Andrew (Portland, ME)
Why no love for KG? Sure he may not have the gaudy stats as the other MVP candidated but anyone who has watched the Celtics play knows his intesity and leadership is the reason the Cs are the best team in the NBA
Anthony ,Newark,De
what does coming from money have to do with anything?. maybe curry loves college basketball. like tyler hansbrough does ever think of that. coming from money has nothing to do with why curry and hansbrough are staying in college
Amy Nelson (11:25 AM)
yeah but if you're not desperate for the money, makes the decision much easier.
Blake (Ohio)
I don't really care who they give it to Lebron, CP3, Kobe...all are excellent choices
Ashley (Syracuse, NY)
The Celts can with the East w/o KG. The Lakers, Cavs and Hornets can forget it w/o their candidates !
Chris (Plainsboro, NJ)
LeBron cannot be MVP, his team gives up waaaay to many points. Chris Paul is the MVP, hands down. Plus, no one points out the fact that Kobe prolonged surgery with his finger, and LeBron missed 7 games because of his. MVP: 1. CP3 2. Kobe 3. LeBron, Andre Miller, KG/PP, etc...
Batch (Boston)
Coming from money might not effect staying in college, but NOT having money is a reason why some are FORCED to jump to the NBA
Christopher (San Antonio)
Good parenting is a reason why they are staying in school.
Amy Nelson (11:26 AM)
Christopher, That seems incredibly narrow-minded...
Jason (Lancaster, NY)
If Curry and Hansbrough were poor kids that came from little, they wouyld jump. Kobe had money and he didn't go to college, but he also had A LOT more talent.
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
Good parenting doesn't have anything to do with it
Lance (Valley City ND)
If your a projected to be picked in the lottery you have to take the opportunity and go pro! If you go back and blow out a knee or something drastic then your entire life is ruined
Mitch (Cleveland)
Can one of my quotes get on here???
Amy Nelson (11:29 AM)
there you go mitch
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
I think the bottom line is we can't fault a kid for leaving school early if he needs or wants to take care of his family (Mom, dad, siblings, etc)
Ashley (Syracuse, NY)
Dell Curry made good $$$$ during his career. So Steph is chillin.
Richard (MICHIGAN)
Ashley (Syracuse, NY): The Celts can with the East w/o KG. The Lakers, Cavs and Hornets can forget it w/o their candidates ! Your a fool the Pistons would kill the Celtics without KG. It wouldnt even be close, Ray Allen and PP are not any were near as they play as good as they are without KG.
Joe (Marquette, Mi)
Good point Damon
Josh (Texas)
Good parenting is also the reason why kids go pro early so they can support their family Christopher. It goes both ways.
Brian (San Antonio Texas)
Amy, If Jay loses the tie can he promise to send Skip along with it?
Amy Nelson (11:32 AM)
oh brian that's harsh
Ryan Media Pa
Hey Amy did you know that eric gordon played michael jordan son in space jam?
Amy Nelson (11:32 AM)
is that true?
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
what I don't understand is that we see many yr old kids playing pro tennis but we don't say anything about them "not finishing school"
Mitch (Cleveland)
CP3 is probably the most deserving of the MVP, followed by Lebron. Kobe doesnt mean as much to his team as Lebron/CP3. Cavs/Hornets - Lebron/CP3 = Lottery teams.
Kevin Gulfport, MS
If Curry has a bad year and gets injured, everybody will say he made a bad decision. If he has a grear year people will appluad and say he made a good decision.
Joe (Marquette, Mi)
Amy, anyone ever tell you that you look like the actress whos stars on the showtime series (Weeds)
Amy Nelson (11:33 AM)
yep abuot twice a year i get the mary louise parker nod ... btw, just watched all three seasons of weeds. it's pretty good.
Brian (San Antonio Texas)
I apologize he just gets under my skin sometimes, especially around football season.
Mat (Louisville)
I'll start by saying I am a big CP3 fan. Best pg in league easy. But NOT THE MVP. I hear too many saying if NO wins the west he should get it. Kobe has done more with less, easy argument. Look at all the injuries the laker have had, (Kobe has a torn pinkie ligament) compared to NO. David West is a beast by the way.
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
I wanted to type 16 or 17 yr old kids play pro tennis
Amy Nelson (11:33 AM)
we knew what you meant
Jim (Murray,KY)
MVP should be Danny Ainge. He swung for the fences and hit a home run.
Rico (Castro Valley, CA)
Soap opera talk...fasciinating!
Amy Nelson (11:34 AM)
um, it's not a soap opera.
Ashley (Syracuse, NY)
Richard(from Michigan) I'm not talking about the THE PISTIONS !!!! The response was about MVP Candidates and what they mean to the team they are on. Sorry,...I don't think you have a PISTONS player on the ballott this year. FOOLS SPEAK BEFORE THEY THINK.
Ryan Media Pa
yeah a friend told me but i didnt believe him so i checked the cast of space jam and his name was there
Amy Nelson (11:35 AM)
isnt eric gordon a common name?
Carl (Texas)
Just because a kid goes pro doesn't mean that he will never go back and get his degree.
Mitch (Cleveland)
Danny ainge? Puhhleeeeze! He just went out and bought a team
Jeff (Ohio)
More with less? Kobe's got Pau who carried a crappy team to 50 wins a couple times, and Lamar Odom who's an all-star, not to mention a future all-star in Bynum.
Kevin (Arlington, VA)
Here's a question...what percentage of college graduates make > $1,000,000? Now, what percentage of professional athletes make > $1,000,000. If they have a shot to make that kind of dough, who can blame them for taking it?
Chris (San Fernando Valley,CA)
No one has been more valueble to there team this season than Kobe. Period!
Chris (East Lansing)
It seems to be Gordon, http://construda.blogspot.com/2007/11/meet-eric-gordon-freshman-phenomspace.html
Brad Nolan, St. Paul
Eric Gordon sounds like a superhero's real name
Brian (San Antonio Texas)
As a Spur fan the lakers scare me more this year than any other including the years they had Shaq.
Rich (South Orange, NJ)
Kevin, college graduates may not make that type of money, but they pretty much guaranteed work for more years than athletes
Garrett (Cedar City, UT)
I would like to know why the National Media hardly ever gives Deron WIlliams any credit as one of the top 3 point guards in the league. Chris Paul's stats are not that much different than his are!
Jason (Lancaster, NY)
BB player Eric Gordon was born in '88 Actor Eric Gordon was born in '89
Alonzo (Macon, Ga)
It's pro sports, every GM buys his team.
Batch (Boston)
Mitch there is a cap in basketball, the Celts aren't the Yanks, they didn't buy a team
Chris (Plainsboro, NJ)
Mavs will miss the playoffs, the Kidd trade was awful, he was good 5 years ago, he is not good in a half court offense, cant shoot, and calling his defense bad would be a compliment.
Chad (Minn.)
L. James.? Not a chance in my book with that record. he's a stat filler....
Chris (East Lansing)
Dallas misses the playoffs and there will be a lot of new faces on that team next year. I say they sell off Dirk to the highest bidder and build the new team around Josh Howard.
We all have the potential to create a better tomorrow (NY)
Eric Gordon plays somewhat like Mitch Richmond.
Jeff (Ohio)
It's not a hard salary cap, ask the Knicks.
Julie (Jersey)
MVP = KG - he made everyone around him better. Bottom Line.
Chad Cook (Winchester,NH)
Who cares who wins the MVP, last year it waa dirk, they lost in the first round of the playoffs. So whould you rather win the MVP or a playoff series?
Jason (Lancaster, NY)
Rich (NJ) Millions of dollars can get more than your books and room in college poaid for, but the degree cannot guarantee millions.
brad Nolan, St. Paul
Eric Gordon the super hero was born in the year 1 A.D.
We all have the potential to create a better tomorrow (NY)
Look all what Kobe has done. The Lakers could be a number 1 seed in the West. LeBrons teams in fourth in the East. Paul has a good case because of how he rejuvenated Nawlins, but I think this year, it is Kobe's time.
Rob (Lewistown, PA)
I thought that was the whole purpose of a general manager...to go out and buy a team with the money you are alloted. Maybe I am confused...
Rich (South Orange, NJ)
Jason (NY) Your point is valid, but the degree gives you a chance to get a job if your pro career doesnt go so well, how many players who played great in college dont make it on the pro level and we dont hear from them again, these players should take advantage of the "free ride" in college
Chad Cook (Winchester,NH)
You give CP a few years he could have his team in the NBA finals. So I think he is a good pick for the MVP, if you think Kobe tan you must be a lakers fan.
Jeff (Ohio)
The problem is, Kobe didn't do it! Pau Gasol did. No Gasol and the Lakers are scrounging for a playoff spot and Kobe's still crying to be traded. Quitting on your team before the season starts doesn't make an MVP.
Mike (Shreveport, Louisiana)
Jay made a mistake going with the red tie...he was better off with no tie
Amy Nelson (11:46 AM)
mike at the end of the show we'll be readign some of the best comments.
Rob (Lewistown, PA)
There are a lot of players who go back and get their degrees while they are playing in the pros. You can't pass up this kind of money. It's not like debating between $50k jobs.
Chris (East Lansing)
Kobe or CP, everyone has a favorite. Isn't it great that we have several contending candidates though? Plenty of exciting basketball to watch this year. It's also great to have some young players, Paul and Lebron, in the hunt. Makes me exciting for this upcoming era of hoops.
Brian (San Antonio Texas)
Some teams don't need spend mad cash to be successful I.E the San Antonio Spurs. They succeed by managing thier money not throwing it around.
Jason (New Carlisle Ohio)
why is nobody talking about the cf'er from the yankees and they way he played lastnight?
Damon (Burlington,Vt)
I guess Jay was uncomfortable without the tie. In the end he went old school
Curtis (Ames,IA)
I dont see why you are still trying to figure out a regular season mvp for the nba, we all know that everything turns up a notch when the postseason starts because thats when players can't take any more days off
Christopher (San Antonio)
Because he is a Yankee, who cares about the Yankees?
Adam (FDL)
Brewers are so going to be 2-0 after today...look for a couple of dingers from the big bats after mondays pitcher duel
Sean (Chicago)
Jay I am an Ohio State grad and since watching you on ESPN we have lost two football national titles, a basketball title and a soccer title, please choose the blue tie and stop the jinx
wally (east islip ny)
lose the tie !!!!! be more relaxed. more genuine with-out tie . dont be another suit and tie guy......
Chris (Princeton, NJ)
I've always been told that the key to success is being comfortable and secure in what you're wearing, so if Jay is this concerned without his tie, it looks like it will be a rough show
Rob (New York)
I take that back, I've watched way to long and its freaking me out to see jay with no tie!! Who is this baller and where is Jay??!!
Carl (Texas)
I can't believe Jay wimped out and put on a tie. A tie is the most worthless thing to wear and I'm proud of my collarless shirts and I look the best at my job.
Amy Nelson (11:53 AM)
guys we have to end the chat today.thanks so much for writing in and i'll be back here next wednesday. have a great week!
