Chat with former Wake Forest C Steve Justice
![]() |
Justice finished his career at Wake Forest by earning two straight spots on the first team All-ACC squad. He played in every one of his team's games during his four-year career. Justice is the third ranked center, according to Mel Kiper, Jr.
According to Justice's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, Justice "is a blue-collar player that uses quick feet, technique and work ethic to mask his lack of ideal size, power and explosiveness. Though he is not an ideal fit for every team, Justice displays enough potential to develop into a starter for a zone-blocking offense (Examples: Broncos, Colts, Packers and Texans). Those teams should consider Justice a good value early on Day 2."

We've got Steve!
Mark H. (Bowling Green, OH)
Who was the toughest defensive lineman that you faced in college?
Steve Justice (2:27 PM)
I would have to say my junior year when we played NC State and Tank Tyler. He's a big guy and moves well. I think he showed that this year with the Chiefs.
John (Brooklyn Ct.)
What words of wisdom do you have for young centers in youth football/early hs years? What are the important things a young center needs to do?
Steve Justice (2:29 PM)
I definitely say work on technique. Being an undersized lineman that everyone says I am, I work on my technique so that I can sustain my blocks longer. The biggest thing I learned through college is that perfect practice makes perfect play. I go thruogh at 100 MPH. Go through and make every block as perfect as you can so when you go on the field, you do the same.
Kyle ((Cincinnati, OH))
Hey Steve, if a team wants to move you to tackle would you be willing to do so?
Steve Justice (2:30 PM)
Of course, I would be willing to do so. But I don't know how well I would do, since I haven't played tackle since high school. I'm going into this draft with the mindset that I'll play whatever, do whatever. As a football player, I've had the mindset that I'll do whatever. I think that shows the teams that I have a good attitude. I think going in I'll probably have to play some guard.
Doug (Roll Tide Country)
Who was your NFL team of choice growing up? And player?
Steve Justice (2:31 PM)
Growing up, I was a huge, just because of my family, Bears fan. I was born in Pennsylvania, so I don't know how I became a Bears fan. My aunt lived in Chicago, so we'd watch them. And Walter Payton was my favorite player. We have pictures of me as a young boy wearing jeans and a Bears jersey. My grandpa gave me a full pads outfit and I think I wore that everyday.
Brad (Gadsden,Alabama)
What was your best moment at wake forest?
Steve Justice (2:33 PM)
It has to be winning the ACC championship and going to the Orange Bowl. I would have to say the ACC title, because we didn't win the Orange Bowl. I think my first year we went 4-7 and then my junior year, I think we went 11-3. You can't get much better than that.
Quinn (Irvine, CA)
Steve, waht teams have you been in contact with?
Steve Justice (2:34 PM)
Well, I had a workout with the Falcons after my Pro Day. I haven't had much contact with teams calling me, but at the combine and Senior Bowl, I talked to 12-15 teams. I had three formal visits at the combine with the Seahawks, Rams and Raiders.
Joe (Meridian, MS)
Sweetness! He was the man!
Steve Justice (2:35 PM)
He was. Sweetness. Whenever, I refer to him, I say Sweetness, Rest In Peace. Watching all the highlights on YouTube is great.
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
How did Coach Grobe get you to play for him at Wake Forest?
Steve Justice (2:36 PM)
Actually, I wasn't very highly recruited out of high school. They thought I was too small. I thought of Wake as a good fit. I got an offer from Rutgers, Southern Miss and South Florida. I like Wake. I thought playing in the ACC would be good. My brother played at UNC, so I thought it would be good to play against him. I took the opportunity and it worked out for the best.
Kyle (Cincinnati, OH)
The Bengals could use a solid lineman. What do you think about that?
Steve Justice (2:37 PM)
I would love it. Love it. Arby Jones is from Ohio and he played here. I have a good friend who played at Bowling Green. I would love to go. I love cold weather. I love to sleep in the cold.
Dwight (New York, NY)
What is your prognosis for Wake's offensive line next year, esp. the new Center - Trey Bailey?
Steve Justice (2:38 PM)
Right now, I went out to practice, the starting LG got into some academic trouble and he's down this year. But the problem with them this year is they're not going to have much depth. They're pushing the guys real hard and get them ready. I think it might be a rough start, but next year getting into the fall, they'll be good. Trey has been under my wing the last couple of years. He'll do a great job. He's lost a little bit of weight. He's moving pretty well. I think he'll do a great job.
Dan (Detroit)
Steve, what are your pregame rituls? What's your favorite?
Steve Justice (2:39 PM)
Every morning I wake up and go to the meetings. About a half hour before we get on the bus, I call my dad and pray with him. Then I call my fiance and I pray with her. Then when I'm dressed in the lockerroom, I put a towel over my head and pray by myself while listening to some Christian music.
Jesse (Indianapolis)
Steve, I think the Colts will be looking to add depth on the line this draft. How would you feel learning behind Jeff Saturday?
Steve Justice (2:40 PM)
Great, great player. He played at Carolina, so he's kind of close to home with my brother playing there. I watched him play in the Pro Bowl this year. That's the kind of offense I would probably go to, a zone type offense. I think that would be a great opportunity to learn from the best.
Steve Justice (2:41 PM)
Be praying for me. Pray that I go to the right team. Go Deacs!
