Chat with former Hampton DE Marcus Dixon
![]() |
Dixon emerged as a big-time pass rushing threat in the MEAC last season. He led Hampton with 16 tackles for loss and six sacks in 2007. He also finished with 58 tackles, third on the team.
According to Dixon's Scouts Inc.'s draft profile, Dixon "has shown above-average upper body strength and flashes the ability to shed blocks. Works from snap until whistle, takes adequate angles to the ball and makes some plays in pursuit. Wraps upon contact and is a sound open field tackler that flashes the ability to knock the ball loose. Flashes an effective rip move and is a relentless pass rusher. Gets hands up when isn't going to get to the quarterback, times jumps well and is tall enough to gets hands on some passes. Possesses adequate size and has the frame to get even bigger."
Send in your questions now, then join Dixon on Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET!

Marcus is here!
Mark H. (Bowling Green, OH)
Would you rather blow up a running back on a big hit or sack a quarterback?
Marcus Dixon (2:26 PM)
Wow. Probably the sack.
Colin (New orleans)
Would you want to play a 3-4 end or would you like to play in a 4-3?
Marcus Dixon (2:27 PM)
It really wouldn't matter. But probably a 3-4 end, because I've been playing it for three years now.
Brads (Gadsden,Alabama)
Who is your fav. nfl player to watch?
Marcus Dixon (2:27 PM)
My favorite NFL player would probably be DeMarcus Ware.
Brian (Cincinnati)
Marcus, Who was your fav. team growing up?
Marcus Dixon (2:28 PM)
My favorite team growing up was probably the Packers. I liked watching Reggie White play.
Jake V (Syracuse)
Marcus, being from a small school, why should you get drafted?
Marcus Dixon (2:28 PM)
I feel like I'm more hungry than the guys coming out of the bigger schools. I don't take anything for granted. Coming from a small school, I feel like I'm more hungry.
Colin (New orleans)
What aspect of your game would you consider your best? What area do you need to improve on?
Marcus Dixon (2:29 PM)
Having to improve on is working on my hands. The best part of my game is that I'm a run stopper.
marcus (iowa)
how have you managed to keep moving forward after all the trouble they accused you of?also what team would you like to play for ithink the steelers would be a good fit for you and again I praise you for the ability to overcome , most just lie down
Marcus Dixon (2:30 PM)
The one thing that got me through was the support from my family and friends. And my faith in God. If I played end in a 3-4 end and if I played a 4-3, it would be a DT. I'm not sure what team would be a good fit, but it depends on the position they want me to play.
Jake V (Syracuse)
Marcus, whats it like coming from Hampton and competing w/ the big boys?
Marcus Dixon (2:32 PM)
It was a great feeling coming from a I-AA school and being out there with Chris Long, Cedrick Ellis and talking to those guys. But at the same time, I felt like we were well coached at Hampton. It was a great feeling to know that those guys will go a top 5 pick.
matt (the chi)
Is there a team that you secretly hope will draft you?
Marcus Dixon (2:32 PM)
Secretly? I hope that Miami picks me up.
Marcus Dixon (2:32 PM)
But that's secretly, so you can't put that out there.
bill (ga)
do you think if you had went to vanderbilt you would have been more widely know?
Marcus Dixon (2:33 PM)
That's a great question. That's hard to tell. I've thought about it before. But I think this is part of the Lord's will. I've been in this situation and they got to know me. I would have been on TV more, but as far as well known, probably not as much as it is now.
SprungOnSports (Long Island)
What kind of player do you think you can become if given the opportunity?
Marcus Dixon (2:34 PM)
I would definitely be one of those players you can count on, a team guy. I'd put pressure on the back field. I would get free to make the tackle. I would be that guy that stays in the scheme. I wouldn't be that guy that is out there selfishly. In short, I guess you could say I'd be the dependable guy.
marcus (iowa)
i agree you need hand work to better come off the block do you feel as if this is something you can improve upon?
Marcus Dixon (2:36 PM)
Basically, doing a lot of bag works. I'll stand with an OL and he'll punch at me and I'll work on my hands. I feel like I can improve at the next level by being coached by the NFL coaches. I'll be easy to be coached, because I want to be coached on to get better.
Aaron (Florida)
best part of Hampton?
Marcus Dixon (2:37 PM)
The best part was it's all about brotherhood. It's one family. The program is all about doing the right thing. You come in and basically your uncles are your coaching staff. The team is great. And then the band. I love the band. I'm going to miss that a lot. I'm trying to get a CD made so I can put it on the iPod and listen to it. It's the black college experience that I'll always remember.
Jake (Philly)
what's your best game memory?
Marcus Dixon (2:38 PM)
There have been a few. One this year was against Morgan State. I lined up at TE and caught a TD pass.
Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)
Teams with good scouts are usually teams with winning records. They're not afraid to draft players from smaller schools because they see the potential. Would you be welcome to the idea of sitting and learning at a place like New England or San Diego for a year or two?
Marcus Dixon (2:39 PM)
I have no problem with that. If a team wants to bring me in, I'm willing to learn. There are a lot of defensive linemen that I'd be willing to learn from. Whatever's best for the team, that's the kind of guy I am.
Marcus Dixon (2:40 PM)
Thanks for asking all the questions. I hope I'll be playing somewhere in your city so you can watch me play.
